I need a Luck Essence eater. We all do.

A couple of things

1) the luck eater shouldn’t go to the general population but only to those who have maxed out luck. Considering how little impact luck seems to have on day to day drops, wouldn’t a luck eater that gives you items be more valuable than luck itself? If ANet gave a luck eater that gave items worth more than advancing your luck then no one would advance their luck bar. If instead it gives items of little value then it wouldn’t be worth tying up an inventory slot.

2) it should give mats only. If it gave gear, then it has a (diminishing) loop where you eat luck to get gear, salvage, get more luck which goes to the luck eater to get more gear. Salvage for more luck.

Of course, this (and the other eaters) can impact the value of mats, making them worth less gold to sell and making events less rewarding as the salvaged gear is of even less value.

Plus I think they would have to change Glob of Ectoplasm salvage to no longer give luck. You can max out luck to 300 in a day doing that.

That’s a persistant bug not tied to Big Ol’ Bomb, but affecting all non-targeted toolbelt skills.
Targeted skills work fine firing the discharge at your target, but every skill without a target isn’t aimed at the nearest opponent or the one you have selected, but based on your camera-positioning (in the same way most skills fire in the direction you look when you have no target selected).

It has been this way since the pre-hot rework for traits at least and was never really fixed.
After all it’s nothing important but just another engineer issue^^

I apologize. I didn’t read your full statement b4 responding.

Remove energy cost from weapon skills

in Revenant

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

One of core issues for me even before PoF new elite, has been energy. Energy in it’s current form seems like a punishment. With the addition of 3 new high energy intensive abilities with no form of additional gain to me just feels like hurting on hurting.

Rev has cd’s and slow energy regain (ouch if not swapping legends constantly regardless of what’s currently appropriate). Glint helped with energy, but hey now we’re onto what seems to be the most costly legend of all with no compensation in the form of higher energy regen.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………..
My suggestion would be first get rid of legend swap for half energy. It’s just counter intuitive (swapping legends when inappropriate just to fire off a few more abilities). Next I’m not sure if I’d take away weapon costs, or do a rework such as starting up on each legend at 100 energy, energy outta combat moving to 100 (only descent for short fights), or 50 and higher regen per sec, but something needs to change.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Whole Idea of rev was to challenge to spend energy correctly, but in its current form many never fire off anything but “the very best”, at any second . Gives a feeling of burden, not challenge. Game play needs to at least feel fun , and not burdensome, if you want excitement in the profession.

Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

Someone suggested what I thought was a brilliant suggestion for compromise on mount movement. Add a toggle to switch between “realistic” (RP) mount movement and movement that allows strafing and quick turns. I know there are many who like the RP aspect of mounts but for others, having movement that doesn’t flow with character presents problems.

Would allow those who want to role play their mounts to do so.

Would allow those who want their mount to feel like a natural extension of the character in movement and who couldn’t care less about “realism”, to have their way as well.

Everyone goes home happy.

This topic has come up many times. It’s been a pretty standard idea in other MMo’s, with no downsides once w/e game specific kinks are worked out. Once implemented it’s a huge quality of life improvement.

That being said, I have my doubts Anet will get build saves up and running any time soon if ever. I had some hope at one point when a post came up saying they were looking into it, then it drifted away into the nether.

DPS meter really?

leftyboy.9358

So today I have been kicked out of a fractal party cause my dps was not maked out, they confirm using dps meter. So now people can use dps meter? So arenanet you change your mind? Can I ask a refund of my entire account cause I clearly remember back a couple year ago dps meter was illegal and thats was one of the reason I started playing this game. To avoid kittens players. If I recall the user agreement speak of this? Did anet change the user agreement without notice or I miss something?

One problem with DPS meters is that after awhile it can be all you see. Telling someone their DPS “sucks” for example does nothing to help someone get better. They should at most be utilized in groups that have an understanding going in, and where all have the same goal to maximize, and then only as a challenge once everyone in group has mastery over mechanics.

But hey , most don’t say anything b4 kicking someone, so props to the dude for saying anything. That’s something I guess.

Massive Lag

AT&T has been having massive problems for about 8 hours (as of the time of my post); it’s affecting people who don’t have AT&T (but whose providers use AT&T pipes or who have to share rerouted traffic with AT&T refugees).

Our demand for internet is growing faster than the infrastructure; this is going to keep happening until our governments and ISPs figure how to manage it.

……………………………………..

Ya not sure if attack, other. or as you said base infrastructure. One thing does seem to be true: if you put all your eggs in one basket as what happens in monopoly’s, two things are certain. Prices will rise, and service will fall.

I had heard about rev problems b4 giving my Hot start rev a good shot. What I’ve found since playing last couple months is that rev is an exiting character with sever beta level flaws that haven’t been fixed.

I can deal with a bizarre exclusion of racial abilities, because I rarely use them, even thought it shouts unfinished character.

I can deal with only couple underwater legends only, since bout the only time I’m underwater is 76 fractals, even though it points to a rushed release and an “oh well let’s go anyways attitude”.

I can deal with multiple ability pathing problems including searing fissure and temporal rift not working on steep inclines, and unrelenting assualt stopping if u hit a wall in confined quarters, even though it screams go back to beta ( Ive learned to fire from above and delay casting , even though i shouldn’t have too).

I can deal with the bizarre mechanic of rev’s where we’re forced to swap to gain energy even though it ends up being a net loss of utilities being fired compared to other professions, and even though there are many posts about it , and many many suggestions about how it can be improved.

………………………………………………………………………………………

What I am finding it hard to deal with and in conjunction with the above just makes me truly annoyed, is that apparently there are even combo field bugs.

As my field of view has gotten wider while playing the profession, I’ve started tinkering around with it, and yesterday realized that the dark combo field of Unyielding Anquish and whirl finisher Precision strike yielded no leeching bolt effect on character even though I’m able to see “leeching bolts” on screen. Checked with 2 other rev’s and was confirmed… I’m missing regular damage and healing off of basic combo’s.

At what point will Anet just say, “hey there are issues to work on with rev beyond additional nerfs to them”. Stop it already. Fix these obvious beta issues , would you please Anet?

P.s. everything I said was after this latest patch that was supposed to fix pathing problems. Go anywhere with a steep slope that’s not a straight line and still have issues.

Still it’s like pulling teeth to get folks to even apple on events or give any kind of guidance.

What do you mean with “apple”? Is this a misspelling or some slang term that I am not aware of? I really just don’t get what you mean with this.

Apple= /mentor. given through an HoT mastery that’s pretty easy to get. It will allow you to /mentor or click on left arrow on top left side of screen, and give an apple over your head that’s seen on the map. Shows where events are currently, or the general population of map (if enough are doing it). One of things given in HoT to bring people together.

Ahh ok, yeah, I’ve seen a few people with an apple above their head now that you mention it. Is that the same as the commander marks you see on the map?

There are some differences

Apples, /mentor- is a way of getting people used to taking on leadership roles. But even if you don’t currently think you’ll ever get a CommTag (dorito), you can still be of great help by using mentor and other things I listed, to help org maps. mentor tags are useless. They are way to easy to get. And mentor Tag doesnt mean u are able to help.

I disagree that communty of GW2 doesnt help each other. U can just ask in the map chat and usually if their is an answer u will get an answer in map chat.

First time i have seen Mentor tags used it was just a disaster. Every noob just tagged up to feel important. And the badest part is. Most of the mentors talk nonsense and are flagged as Mentors in map chat. U can get a Mentor Tag with less then 2k ap. He havent seen even 10% of the game.

U dont need a Mentor Tag to help each other. The apple is just another Commander Tag that is poorly designed.

I know ap doesnt mean everything but at least that guy has seen alot of the game with high ap. They should have binded Mentor tag with ap when its prupose would be o show that someone is expirirenced and willing to help.

How often have you actually seen or used mentor tags? Did u give up after a few new people used them? Mentor tags were designed to get more people slowly involved in leading. Helping people feel comfortable and willing to take on greater leadership roles. Gw2 does help people . My main statement is that after HoT has been out for long while now. Folks still aren’t using the tools given.

The reasons you’ve given seem to be general complaints, where the main issue is people don’t use tags right and people hate on you if you make a mistake. To that I’ll just say , so what. That’s how it works. People will hate you whenever you lead anything. That’s how you learn. There will be more people calling you every name in the book , then there will be giving you props for the work you put in. That’s human nature. But people will slowly learn to help others if you dont give up.

I’ve seen maps where folks actually try and organize things. In many cases it doesn’t require Comm’s It just requires people recognizing that not all are on same page experience wise . New folks will flock to the icons on map, but all u need for mentor is the mastery and the willingness to throw it up on an event. That’s it. No more is required, except perhaps the block and report key for internet warriors.

If you can say at the end of an event sequence that you tried your best and were willing to listen along the way and learn, You’ve done your job as a leader. That’s it. That’s all thats required. Whether you helped by calling out instructions for how an event works, Apple’d up on an event, called out a WP for an active event, or Comm’ed a map… it’s all good.

Just try. We can get into a zone of farming. We can get into a pride state where we think cause we know, everyone does, and kitten them if they don’t. We can get into a state of they didn’t help me , I won’t bother to help them. But just try, and keep trying, and when they hurt you, take a break and try again.. In my experience….it really is worth it.

Maybe people who would use the tag to show events got abused for putting up the Apple and now dont use it.

Mentor tag. Don’t use it if you don’t know anything

Mentor tag abused as Commander tag

Can we make Mentor harder to get

The Apple tag needs to go

And so on and so forth.

There was and still is hostility for “welfare tags” being used in events like a Commander tag, and people didn’t hesitate to say so in the forums and in map chat.

I’ll answer questions in map chat but I rarely put up the Apple.

Yes. You will def get abuse for using any kind of tag that separates you from the pack. I will agree with that. Plz don’t let that dishearten you. I would take 1 person at least willing to learn how and when to use a tag and failing, then 100 people who just say screw it.

I don’t really care if I get trolled on this.

Almost one year in on HoT. We were given mentor tags. We were givien expanded comm abilities. Still it’s like pulling teeth to get folks to even apple on events or give any kind of guidance.

It just seems crazy to me. Why wouldn’t U want to give back on experiece and knowledge u’ve gained to help the next generation come in , stay exited, and help those after them?

I’ve tried for almost an entire year to at least get folk to put up those mentor’s on events while they’re active, to ask people to point out wp’s of current objective: to show map is active and to show people where things are happening currently, to no avail.

Idk if people are just scared to mentor , or just like forget u I can’t spend a second to help anyone, I got another chest to open?

It’s just seems crazy to me. With the tools anet has given us to take on some kind of role in leading and 95% of folks just look for a comm or say screw it.

tdlr: why not help someone outside yourself. Just takes a few seconds in many instances, and you help everyone including yourself???

I think I’ve died more to rock throwers and #5 tagging leylines since BF release then probably my whole time playing all the other HoT content and have had some laughs about it =P .

I guess rock throwers being immune to invisibility is by design and if so maybe decrease their attack range? They can still be dangerous, forcing you to pay attention, without being able to tag u across what seems like half the map. On the other side of that coin for me it feels kinda broken being able to fire at enemies as soon as the become visible way off in the distance.

That being said I’ve now found good results when attacked to just drop glider then glider again with a quick #5 seems to clear the aggro in many cases. Just watch out for those leylines lol

Finally a fun way to use ley lines and updrafts. Very cool gliding abilities. Fun Champ mechanics. Salvage that gives low level mats-combined with another couple sinks for bloodstone; makes champ bag opening more diverse (now have to weigh my needs and not just open all on bag opener). Tons of gathering and an additional way to get bloodstone as well. Wp’s not too far from anything. Interesting things to buy with map currency. *Achieves not tied to gear**. Night and day cycles. No mega loot ( love AB multi but kinda ridiculous).

I’m sure I’m forgetting some stuff but in a nutshell, I think this map was well planned and pulled together components already in game to a logical end. Been a pleasure to play.

Has ANet Forgotten the Casual Gamers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

With this severe content drought and nothing but very specific content aimed at the more hardcore crowd, I can’t help but to feel a bit forgotten. Sure we have current events, but those are nothing compared to the love that the other parts of the game have seen.

Do you think that the casual base is a minority? I have always felt that the casual gamer base was quite populous in GW2, but maybe I was wrong, maybe its full of hardcore players.

I’m just feeling left out lately, waiting for Living World Season 3 is going to be tough. :-(

Most of this game is geared towards casual come and go content. Personally I have no issue with “hardcore” content. I only wish anet wasn’t trying to be like other mmo’s in terms of restricting more and more high level rewards to hardcore, or forcing players into cross areas of the game pve/pvp that they might simply hate-in order to achieve those rewards. Even things like ascended viper rings which can only be gained in raids is in my view taking exclusivity way too far.

Cater to all but anet stick to your philosophy of access to all. I don’t mind paying the equivelent of time for an item. Just don’t create one path to victory rewards. Gw2 is supposed to be different than other mmo’s.

leftyboy.9358

My guild you get benefits for consistently repping. That’s imo better than forcing people to rep. And for the first time in my mmo gaming I actually want to rep the guild, with or without benefits.

Don’t know how many guilds I’ve been in through the years , but this the first that is actually social, no matter what was advertised. An inherent issue is that everyone can try to build a guild , but few will succeed. It’s hard to keep a guild interested. It requires alot of effort and an instinct for what people are looking for I think. When in doubt go with activities that play to peoples greed. Seems to work pretty well.

I also think that with HoT, Anet started catering more to established guilds rather than startup. People had way to many mats in inventory and they needed ways to dump alot of it ( and would you feel more comfortable dumping mats into an established guild or a risky startup). Side effect of this was that previously rich guilds leveled quicker and became more attractive

p.s I was a gleader for a time and failed miserably. It’s not for everyone.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

It seems ANET wanted to try to be like other mmo’s with certain things that were done in HoT.

1- Bizarre one way to acquire gear acquisition. Some are achieves, some are raids etc. One things for sure; laurels for loyalty became less interesting to them. There’s no need to force people into the hardest endgame content for things everyone uses. Percentage of people who raid regularly will always be a minority.

2- Mastery….gates behind gates, behind gates. Once again, one path to success for mastery achieves. Not everyone likes your adventures:P. Keep it simple stupid is how gw2 started and it worked for them.

3- Making promises you can’t keep- Legendary’s, new fractals, bug fixes for essential items like LFG taking forever (still have to post twice to get a new description to work in fractals after someone leaves, and usually someone has already joined by that time and have to explain what lv.s are actually being done). but bug fixes have always been an issue for anet though ….I digress.

Since the release of Hot those have been the glaring ones for me anyways. I don’t pvp in this game so I have no Idea what that community thinks.

As a side note: I hope the legendary team wasn’t just pulled simply to work on the next money maker expansion (if they don’t fix issues here first, they’ll just find many people unwilling to even buy it).

Just so this post isn’t all Debbie Downer, I’ll say I think ANET did a superb job on making Hot zone maps fun to explore and I still enjoy the events and meta’s on several of the maps. I think that the concept of mastery’s was and still is a good implementation with perhaps some tweaks needed. This is the most artistically creative mmo I’ve played.

Change suppression debuff in LFG

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: leftyboy.9358

leftyboy.9358

I’m constanly hearing people complain about maps being empty. For me this comes down to three different issues.

1-People are ignorant as to how LFG works
2-Soo many people just seem to be lazy and not willing to take 5 sec every 5 min to get another grp in map.
3- Anet suppression is to harsh for those few willing to taxi- because of 1,2 it’s like pulling teeth to get a taxi buddy to avoid being suppressed.

Sorry to get on the soap box, but it gets so frustrating: it’s not hard to fill maps, but since most people are for w/e reason unwilling to help fill it in their best interest, I’m suggesting Anet change their rules so that suppression in lfg becomes more lax. Abandoned all together would I’m sure cause too many problems with the way lfg is currently set up.

Lol . I see we’ve officially entered the no noobs; only pro experienced theorycrafting experts need apply- evolution of the raids.

Beautiful.

You reap what you sow.

Since you aren’t willing to explain raids people just stay silent.

Consider this retribution for all those Arah runs where I was trying to teach people lupi but they were too scared to ask for help because of people like you guys who refuse to play with people who haven’t already mastered the content or memorized your trite meta lingo.

LFG still having problems

Still having issue with LfG where if one person leaves group, need to enter que then re-edit the information to get it to stick. In addition I’m also having problem where I’ll join a group with one other person to run a taxi but am immediately suppressed having done no postings at all.

Empty maps

Well, let’s try to be a little bit constructive here. Yes, those “empty maps” topics are getting old (you don’t need to post a new one every single day, dudes), but their frequency shows there’s a real problem with the way the different maps are handled by the megaserver. It also shows a lot of people don’t know how taxis work (it’s not hard to find an event map when you do).

So what would the solution be? Districts as often suggested? Something else? Any idea?

Most people refuse to taxi or be a taxi buddy no matter how much time passes and how many veterans there are that know what a taxi is and how to avoid being suppressed. This issue has frustrated me a number of times, and finally the conclusion I’ve come too is that people are just too lazy to take a few seconds out of their killing to post in lfg. That’s the inherent problem with the lfg as it’s currently set up.

Only way round it I can see is to have a map select feature which allows you to que up for say Ab pylons; and a smarter system which places you in map which is filling, not emptying.

Won't be getting Legendary armor!

Like many players, I came to GW2 because it was a very casual experience that didn’t require me to spend 10 hours a day playing to compete. I did that for almost 15 years split between WOW/DAoC, I’m tired.

I took breaks because I know coming back I wouldn’t miss much. I’ve even managed to craft quite a few legendaries casually playing the game. Now here we are, I come back after a year, and learn that you’re required to raid to get the stuff necessary to make this (hopefully awesome) armor.

I have a good job, 4 daughters, a wife, and 2 dogs. I don’t have 2-8 hrs a day to dedicate to setting up, forming groups, organizing voice chat, raiding et. I’ve been a solo roamer since beta, I have hardly any friends. And the ones I do have aren’t elitists.

I feel cheated and I miss my original GW2 experience. It worked, the formula was different and very welcomed. It was a wonderful experience and is what made GW2 enjoyable and unique.

Now I’m just kittened that I’m denied access because I can’t go full neckbeard status for pve in a game I was told I wouldn’t have to raid in to get the best gear.

Bleh

There are many reasons why people don’t choose to raid, and raiders I’ve talked to by and large don’t have a problem with the limited access. They don’t consider raids to be a grind and it makes them feel good to have access to exclusive rewards. That seems to be a shift in policy and a compromise to attract more " Hardcore" players to the game on the part of anet. HoT has been a test for them I think to see how far away from their original philosophy they can push, without people pushing back, in an effort
to widen their player demographic.

By restricting gear further to only the hardest of the end game content (only one path to victory), they have completely blocked a percentage of the player base from ever being able to access it. What was nice about legendary weapons is that , though expensive, even casual players could eventually acquire them, if they desired. Simple truth is, for w/e reason, not everyone is into raiding- Personally I hate raiding so I guess I’ll never get legendary armor. Oh well, guess I’ll just have the occasional annoyance of having to deal with 4 sets.

64 client solved most of my dc issues. Knock on wood, have only had a couple dc’s since changing up months ago. And the couple I have had, have been actual server crashes.

Ahh ok, a leech justifying leeching. I’ll stop replying to you and hope I don’t get you any time I lead.

Your premise is that if people do it the easy way and make more loot at same time, they’re leeches? And then when people disagree with you – you’re response is to act like a child who didn’t get something they wanted?

Here’s how zerg ( which has btw become the standard model of defeat for AB META) works. Starts east then rotates through other sides and ends on south. Pew Pew now we have more loot, which is just smart gameplay.

At this point your leech theory breaks down. The so called leeches, split to all sides, coordinate if short handed, grab armors as needed and then TOGETHER defeat the vine.

Since search function of lfg put in on patch, I’ve had various problems with LFG.
1. Someone joins grp and I can no longer post
2. Have to post then edit post to advertise in lfg either before and/or after someone joins.
3. Multiple members join group, someone leaves, then noone can post for more members
4. Multiple members join grp: some members can post and some can’t.
4. Will work in world event lfg but now fractal lfg.

Basically just a mess.

Also wondering why ANET would bother with an lfg search function since they haven’t been able to get forum search to work in last 3 yrs.

Is Chill build reaper lame in groups?

I recently started playing around with the idea of a viper based reaper chill build using shouts. Working on the dummies I did pretty darn good dam, but b4 I fully invested in armors I started running a dam chill build usiing my current armor just to try in group settings. What I found is that if even one other person ran some chill in their spec, I ended up missing out on damage since apparently it only stacks to 5. I tested just running fractals and half the time i wasn’t even seeing damage proc.

Would love some feedback on this.

Roly poly bone minions meets bowling ftw. Would be nice if minions moved faster after acquiring new targets though for sure. Sometimes there’s a substantial dps loss, especially after using necro copter to grab a new target.
