Real… out of all the problems this game has, you chose to argue that ranger downstate is your biggest problem and a reason to QQ on the forums.
Seriously, ele can run away and rez if he gets downed. He can use it to hide from someone, to lure people from the point or to get out from treb shots.
Warrior Vengeance stomps you and dies a while after, he doesn’t win, but neither do you.
Engie grabs your pet and throws him with booby trap. He has really bad downstate btw, more team fight oriented, but still…
Guardian, given the right circumstances, can knock the pet back and heal.

I could agree on the underwater argument, but who cares about underwater. This crap is never going to be played in competitive PvP, so why even bother.

These are the fields community feels are lacking for necro. We would, as a necromancer community, welcome any hints.

I don’t have time nor desire to do it, it isn’t fun. I also have 230k accumulated karma, 3 full item sets and I can’t see myself farming it all over.

It just got boring. After hundreds of hours in PvP and PvE I can’t even find enjoyable ways to play my necro. No cool movement skills, no dynamics, just stale play style. Can’t even find myself a goal in Legendary items since necro has poor choice of weapons.
I basically know the profession in and out and there is nothing left.
As I said, I’m not going to play this boring PvE all over again.

Hi,
The idea is pretty simple and I think it was discussed before – let us change our profession through in-game item and price it high enough.
I put all my time into necromancer and realised it lack cool abilities and playstyles.
I will rather die than grind the gear and level again so I, and I believe many others, need an item to change my profession.
Make it so you cant use it more than once or twice on one character so it doesn’t get abused.
What others think?
I will sum up the short comings of the necromancer:
Because they have so much hp and 2 health bars, EVERYTHING about them must be trash and UPed for game balance.
I second this. Necro lacks access to significant mechanics and those he has access to are hard to pull off and easy-to-counter.
Just think of it – necro doesn’t have a blink to break stun and create a gap/run away. He lacks exit routes. We could agree to that if we had capabilities to tank through our escape. The additional hp and DS should do the trick on paper, but they utterly fail at it in practice.
Even if we say that necro shouldn’t have any mobility, because he’s an attrition class – he can’t escape, but his foes can’t either, we find ourselves ‘crippled’.
Two most ‘powerful’ abilities used here are Dark Path and Spectral Grasp. both easily countered by a single dodge, ON TOP of several leaps/blinks/shadowsteps, HELL EVEN LOS.
Combine it with completely boring weapon skills and we have a great attrition profession – a necromancer.
Anet needs to realise that there is no middle ground. Necro needs a rework in some places. I wouldn’t scrap it all, just some things like weapon sets need more variety and viability. Signets suck or are broken, minions should do something and be interesting to use (currently they are neither), wells are strong but still completely boring and darn fire-and forget.
We need more combo finishers we could use ourselves. It adds whole new dimension when playing (when I play my ranger I always look for combo fields I can utilise, I position myself and just throw some axes/arrows/leaps).
We need a cleave attack, a thing asked for so long now.
These are no major number tunings. Time to give necros, what you owe them, Anet.

The amount of creative and technical work put into necro weapons in comparison with other professions’ weapons is absurd. Nothing new. Not gonna change.

If you go and read the threads/post of people asking for nerfs in general on any profession, it seems as they’re complete masters of this game hence any defeat is only due to OP or broken skills, this means that as long as they beat you…it’s you who need to l2p but if you beat them…it’s because your profession is OP, sure sometimes there is the legitimate complaint but for most cases it’s just an ego problem

Yeah, Jonathan Sharp is more of a Quake than GW guy.
It quite explains why Conquest is as it is. It may be good for Quake fans (I have no proof it actually is), but it definitely doesn’t for me, an average GW fan.
I just wanted to ask about everyone’s opinion regarding the current necromancer weapon sets – their synergies and how they feel.
For me, after playing all professions, necro weapon sets aren’t necessarily bad, but they definitely AREN’T fun.
It’s really enough to mess a bit as a warrior or an ele or pretty much any other class to feel how well their weapon sets were designed.
Just try D/D ele set or hammer warrior or mesmer greatsword. I always have a blast playing swords ranger. Even guardian has some really cool abilities. I won’t even mention thief. I consider engie’s sets and kits also very engaging.
We obviously could go on and on.
Which brings us to the discussion.
Do you also feel that necro weapons lack cool-factor, great mechanics and animations, more engaging playstyles?
For me, they’re severely crippled by being extremely one-dimensional. They all are ‘damage and effect’ type of skills, while other classes have hard-cc/movement/bubbles/dynamic skills packed to their weapon kits.
In comparison, all necro weapons in general feel like they were created very early and forgotten. They feel like placeholder skills.
It is a major drawback for me at the moment. I really love my necro, but somehow cannot play it since I tried other professions.
Do you guys agree? Why do you think necro weapon skills are all so ‘dumbed-down’ and do you believe they can get a major overhaul somewhere soon?

I think it is good.
Basically what I believe is happening is PvE devs are 90% of the studio, then there is some 7% WvW group and a tiny group of few guys trying to prove their PvP is good and push it forward at the same time having the head of the studio crying for gem revenue.
Whatever’s going on, we sure were false advertised regarding the PvP.
@ features discussion: I woudn’t expect the matchmaking before February. The argument that major e-sports never became what they are today before well into a year after release comes to my mind.
I’m thnking Anet realises their PvP is kitten and unfinshed and they know it needs changes, but firstly they have this illusionary comfort of having 1 year to develop basic features, so why bother?
Even with these features in place there is still a problem of Conquest and map design being created in the development Foundry of Failed Creations (after Kormir took over). The rationale behind their position in this matter is most probably that they don’t, as a PvP team, have the resources to come up with something good and new, so they’ll just focus on adding basic features and hope PvP becomes popular when they’re in place.
What’s going to happen? Time will tell, but I wouldn’t be too optimistic.

Time to nerf the necro.
We know that the devs are capable of disabling certain abilities depending on the environment (underwater, for example). Disable portal in PvP; make portal a PvE-only skill. Done.

3. guardian (mainholder, not killable in 1v1 , can hold 1v 2, 3 very long, stability, zoningcontrol, booking (make healing range smaller = guardian is melee so…)
4. semitankele /dpsele (jannastyle support, fast, healing, condicleanser, damage, aoecontrol, Interrupts)
5.necro (offensive /Support, aoedamage, condicontrol, rezsignet)
6. bunkerranger (tanky, condikitten, pets hit hard, healing)that’s my opinion

The time is up, make the skill work as intended so it is useful.
I was thinking of it as of a 1-person 1-way mesmer portal.
As with everything necro, the skill only teleports you a bit towards the point and doesn’t even work when verticality comes into consideration.

@Anet and everyone caring about necro as much as I do:
After hundreds of hours played as necro since BWE1, good chunk of it being competitive PvP I can say necro is definitely capable of some insane plays.
With that said there is much wrong with the execution of class implementation.
1. Warriors need someone to take care of their conditions. Current necro design requires the necromancer to have someone to help them kill fleeing targets. You either are a DPS and cannot catch disengaging foes or you are CC-specced and your only role is to try to prevent your enemy from fleeing. You can’t reliably do both. Others can (mes, ele, thief).
2. The amount of invulnerabilities/stealth that can be used to reset fights is insane and works directly against necro (he doesn’t have any). With most classes having access to powerful boons like Stability or Vigor, CC-speccs (not only on necro) do not work. What is wrong with a designer that gives one profession a low cooldown teleports that allows them to mess with verticality like a madman and leaves necro having to run for 15 seconds. Your attrition class cannot catch a stealthy thief with a shortbow or a mesmer or an ele.
3. Necro has the most poorly designed weapon sets in the game. Other classes have a great deal of diversity in their weapons. Necro follows very simplistic formula of auto-attack, ground-targeted/channel skill, and cast-and-forget additional skill in dagger scepter and axe sets. Same for the staff which is very powerful but also utterly boring.
Which leads me to…
4. The gameplay is just dumb with spamming Wells or Marks or stacking bleeding. Of course there is place for great plays. My favourite was catching a thief fleeing from Windmill in Kyhlo by chasing him with Dark Path. The hand reached him under the Clocktower when he used the SB teleport and shadowstepped to the nod teleporting me with him. Countering condition thieves by intentionally standing in Caltrops and casting big Putrid Mark just to see him melt is another example. Triple rupt of stomp utilising Corrupt Boon, both fears and Wail of Doom also comes to mind.
There is a huge potential and the profession is strong.
It is just a big mess. Just compare it to the Elementalist, who has greatly designed weapon sets (D/D is the gem of design).
MY SUGGESTION IS:
Why not just rework necro weapon sets so that they offer something more than button mashing. Since it is the ‘attrition class’, give it some reliable and interesting CC.
I am not talking cripple and chill. I’m talking a whole weapon set designed to toss the enemies around. Guardian has bubbles and walls. Warrior has KD/immobilise/stun sets. Give necro pulls and pushbacks (similar to skill 3 in Lich Form).
That change not only makes necro more interesting to play, but it also defines necro’s role as a interrupter and area denial profession. One that (as it is currently) lacks mobility, but is the king when it comes to playing longer battles in one spot. One that cannot escape when overwhelmed, but can overwhelm you when you stay for too long and try to escape.
And Anet, please, take it seriously. Necro needs more interesting weapon sets. Not in numbers but in mechanics. Take it seriously and rework it, until it is too late.
You have Karl McLain (hope I spelled it correctly) who is an ele guy. Let him tweak with necro kits so we can see some quality in this profession we all love
EDIT: One more thing, delete Reanimator and replace it with some endurance regeneration trait or vigor provider. Endurance is the most important thing in this game and currently necro is crippled when it comes to endurance regeneration (unlike other professions).

Okay. I was used to Elixir B for swiftness on my Engineer, then I started playing my Ranger and was swapping to horn and torch to move around the map, AND I HATED IT. I was so glad when they implemented the change, so I wouldn’t have to deal with this giant clumsy UI popping up, me finding the horn, double clicking, using the 5 ability, then clicking on my torch to get it back on, all while running to a point. I FELT LIKE I WAS PERSONALLY CCing MYSELF.
This is a very good point. I also used to swap weapons out of combat, but in my case I was first swapping to warhorn, using Hunter’s Call for swiftness, then swapping to Greatsword to use Swoop to finally go back to my ordinary set by swapping to axe/torch.
It was dreadful.
By restricting that, we can ensure people have to make meaningful choices.
We also save them from fighting the UI. If we left it open for swapping, people would be forced to do it.
Once again, this is a great change. Good job PvP devs.

Nice try, you are probably that r13 ele.
But to answer your question, I played a mesmer and was winning by just pressing buttonz. Same goes for guardian. Tried thief, but didn’t really like it.
Ele was more difficult to grasp, but definitely really strong and versatile.
I learned the game by playing tournaments back when necro was super kitten. I can play the game.
What I meant – mesmer is faceroll, no matter you like it or not.
It is a god of mechanics.
Ele is the god of versatility.
Guard is the god of defense.
What does the warrior have? Just look around you, Mouse… Given you ever played a tournament.

I didn’t take any chests from PvE and couldn’t get the PvP one either, it said I already had it but it is no where to be found in my inventory.

Since I started playing in BWE1 I always laughed at warriors. I laughed they were faceroll, I laughed they were super tanky with highest hp pool and highest basic armour and people were still dying as warriors.
I played Jon Peters’ most hated profession (a necromancer) and probably wanted to feel better.
In the passing week I rolled a warrior (a hammer bunker) and all I have to say is:
I am wholeheartedly sorry for thinking all of the above. I am sorry to have thought warrior was strong.
I realised you all, poor warriors, are victims of Anet’s bias when it comes to balancing different classes.
I met a mesmer I couldn’t even come close to. I met an auto-attack r13 bunker ele, who was smashing skills jumping randomly between his attunements without any sense who killed me twice (I’m bad). The boons uptime in his kitten build was insane. My hammer was supposed to shut him down.
It didn’t.
I am sorry, warriors.
Warrior is much more skill-dependant than some faceroll mesmer or an ele or even a necromancer.
Anet harmed you all. I sympathise.
@Anet: a suggestion – please get some competent people to start the balancing. Your game was supposed to be skill-based. Skill is important, but currently a profession choice is much more important.
You have created a [Mesmer, Guardian, Thief/Ele] Holy Trinity.

This is cause of it. You can only get one chest – PvE version for some Mystical Cogs and something or PvP for 6 finishers and a backpack.
I took the PvP chest and I don’t regret doing so.
