I hope the guild missions will be available in the whole open world, and not just Southsun Cove! Because i didn’t think it was fun fighting the Veteran Karka. They are more annoying (so not fun) than dungeon boss’s.
The “loot” or lack of, will continue to be a problem because there are not enough items in the game to play for.
I’m sure they will add more items over time, the issue most of us are having since November is that we can’t make any money playing the game to buy the lovely new items, because rares are too rare, and Exotics never drop.
Some people seem to be unaffected by this, and continue to drop rares and exos like they’re candy
With any luck, the Feb patch will put us all back onto an even playing field again
I made alot of gold just by selling t5-t6 matts farming orr mobs in the open world. But there is nothing i want, or need to buy with it. The only item offered that i did not get through leveling to 80 is the Legendary. And i do not want it because i don’t like the steps required.
The “loot” or lack of, will continue to be a problem because there are not enough items in the game to play for.
If we do ever get player/guild housing, i hope it is not instanced! Instanced housing takes away all the “social” and community fun that open world housing allows. Game worlds are huge, and developers are able to make whole zones for housing.
. . . I’m surprised nobody brought up Ultima Online and how housing made the landscape look like small cities with houses crammed anywhere they would possibly fit. And they still stunk due to the way the game worked (not always secure and sometimes a sign saying “come get me” if it was in a spot someone else wanted).
Are you dissing on UO? How dare you!
I played UO, and I enjoyed playing on UO, but . . .
There were plenty of nice flat places which became overrun with housing. (Verity Island, that white snowy island?) It made it impossible to see any kind of landscape let alone people hiding between houses due to the view. This led often to PKers hiding in there on mounts and rushing out to gank people who were close enough.
Then there were places between forests and mountains where you could stick a small house . . . and people did, nice little mining shacks. Which screamed out “hey, come get me, I’m making metal!” to the savvy . . . and if someone wanted that spot for their own house all they had to do was camp it and figure out who owned it, then kill them until they gave up.
Like I said, I played UO and I liked certain aspects of it. The housing was one which was a huge mixed bag. Convenient, and useful, but if you made an effort to get it to look nice there was a high chance of getting yourself harassed due to being a target. And if you happened to be good at everything but PvP?
. . . UO was not fun if you weren’t good at PvP.
My guild on Ultima Online had a 15 house player city. Most of us were not good at pvp, but it was still so fun for one single pvp god to come visit our city. Usually 5 of us online against one good player could not always take him down! But if we did you could chop off the player killers head and display it in a chest on your table
Don’t forget the game which introduced player housing. Developed for the player to have the most customization and fun! Its a shame that in 15+ years player housing has not evolved for the better. (only the graphics have improved). Anyone remember house break in’s? House looting is still available though

I think GW2 is more for hard core players, since the dungeons are very difficult, and pve game play is the least rewarding after level 80. But the leveling system is very fun for the casual player. And crafting was not developed to be meaningful, profitable, fun or relaxing type game play for casual play. There is only one good item in the game after 80, (the legendary) which as a casual player the steps required would not be fun to do.

I would love to see customizable guild halls in GW2! It could add alot of new and fun gameplay, and many new objects to play for or craft. Its a shame we don’t have it. And a bigger shame if we get it and its instanced and not fully customizable.
Most often the ingredients sell for more than the finished product. So yes, i find it more profitable to sell all my matts, then buy what i want on the TP. Gathering is somewhat fun, if you like to mix fighting with gathering. I love the regular, old school crafting which is meaningful, profitable, and fun. But in GW2, the crafting is for leveling character to 80, or making a legendary, or playing the TP. Its not really a profession you can be proud of.
Just my opinion.
(edited by lisamee.2408)
I loved the leveling system, and had fun leveling 2 characters. But once you hit fully geared 80 , unless you enjoy the steps involved in making the legendary, there is no other items in the game that i personally want to play for (make gold for). I hope they will add customizable player/guild housing. That would add tons of new items and play content to the game. It would also add lots of items to the gem shop.
I think he wants us to say kitten?
I would love a larger list of activities for both the daily and monthlies, and have the option to choose my favorites.
I have never completed the monthly because i do not enjoy WvW , pvp, nor dungeons.
(edited by lisamee.2408)
The game needs to add more fun to bring new players in, such as customizable player and guild halls. This alone would add tons of new items to play for, and make gold for. The first wave of players i think had alot of fun exploring and leveling to 80, and getting the 80’s gear. But after that there is only one item to play for (make gold for) which is the legendary. But many players do not enjoy the steps involved in getting the legendary. So less players making alts for the zones, and less new players due to the current player reviews.
Maybe the drop rates were nerfed because there not enough items to buy with your gold in the game yet. Hopefully lots of new items will be added to the game, and more ways to make gold by pve hunting. After you reach 80 the only item too expensive to buy is the legendary.
Granted, there a bunch of different mission types and they all vary in difficulty. But given that this is guild content, we created some challenges that should hopefully require some decent coordination. And while the risen temple of Grenth is a fine example of very hard event, I think you’ll find that the guild content pressures you ways other than dealing lots of damage. A few missions haven’t even been completed by our internal testers yet (but they came extremely close).
Will it be like the dungeon mechanics? Where you have to learn how to do it and practice or be killed often?
The new guild missions sound very fun! I just hope its not like killing a dragon or veteran karka, which takes too long the fun fades away.
Are the steps involved in getting your legendary fun for you? If so then continue having fun
Sadly, the ingredients used in most crafted items sell for more then the finished product because resources are so scarce. Crafting in GW2 was not developed to be what most players love about crafting.
Leveling crafting in GW2 requires us to use the TP because ingredients drop at such a low rate, making it annoying rather then fun. For cooking, use the guide listed below because its the least expensive way:
It is possible to make your own exotic gear. But since the ingredients are more valuable then the finished product, its best to just buy your exotic gear on the TP, and sell your matts/ingredients.
When I am crafting for profit, my process usually runs about like this:
1) Post a LFG for a dungeon that I want to do, but have a hard time finding a group for…. usually CoE or TA, then hunker down to craft while I idle in lions arch.
2) Search the TP for items that are listing high at the moment…. jot down the cost of the lowest seller.
3) Search the TP for the raw mats if purchased via a ‘buy now’ jot down the total cost to produce the item.
4) Look at the margin. If it’s wide enough, move on, if not, repeat 2 + 3.
5) If the margin is sufficient, look at the total volume listed for sale vs the total number of buy orders (gaging velocity, because that lets me make an informed decision in the next step.)
6) Buy a large amount of raw mats, spam craft, and bulk list at or close to the current lowest seller. I’ll pick up my profit in the morning, or after the dungeon, or… whenever. You have to develop a sense of what the market will bear. I find that if I list more than 25-30 lvl 80 rares in one lump, I get undercut for a significantly longer period of time because it takes too long to cycle through, but if I list smaller batches…. 15-20 at a time, people are more likely to match on my low price…. and then it’s FIFO.
I really, really want to debunk the notion that crafting is not profitable. It is, you just have to learn a bit about what does make a profit.
Last hint: If you look at the most highly valued precursors, and craft the lvl 80 rares for that precursor, there is usually a high demand for those rares because people are hucking them in the forge en masse.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I’m really not trying to be obtuse and ‘not give up a secret’ by not mentioning specific items. It’s a moving target… some times, it’s Rare Greatswords… some times, it’s Exotic Berserker’s Light Armor…. the key is to know how to look for the target.
What you are doing is not crafting, its called “playing the Trade Post”. In GW2 the ingredients sell for more then the finished product in most cases. Crafting in games was originally designed to be meaningful, profitable, and very fun. I do not think GW2 crafting has evolved or improved on the original concept of crafting, but has nerfed it to be the opposite: not meaningful, not profitable, and annoying rather then fun.
Good hunting locations (updated after patches)
Updated ori and ancient wood locations per server
State of the game (to include the majorities opinion)
A “What players want” video
That would be great!
If anyone has ever been a crafter in Star Wars Galaxies or Ultima Online, you would understand why so many are disappointed in GW2’s crafting. Crafting should at least be as fun as the old school games, and better yet…how about more improved and more fun? The ingredients were never more then the finished product, gathering was plentiful, and more fun because not every area was covered in mob spawns. Players were proud to be a crafter.
Its a shame that in the 15+ years of online rpg gaming that some of the most popular mechanics have not evolved for the better. When developers ever realize this, they will be rich!
A few of the most popular mechanics of old school rpg’s
—a meaningful, profitable, and fun crafting system
—customizable player housing
—customizable guild halls
—consensual anywhere in world pvp
—consensual anywhere in world guild vs guild battles
—lots of items in the game to play for
—new items added regularly to continue to play for.
Because GW2 crafting is not developed to be meaningful, profitable, or just plain fun. Gw2 crafting is for XP, and to make your legendary (in a very directed way). Could be why there are no beautiful trees to harvest?
I was so excited that guild wars was adding crafting to the game. It was the main reason i bought the game. But i was expecting the crafting to be what i remembered it to be in other games i played: meaningful, profitable, and fun. I am very disappointed in the GW2 crafting. It seems like everything in the game is strictly “directed” into getting ONE super prize: the legendary. So all other gameplay is nerfed.
It seems like the whole Gw2 game revolves around getting one special prize: The Legendary. What special prize is there for those who don’t like the directed gameplay required to getting the legendary? Or for those who do not like the legendary weapon?
Adding alternative prizes to choose from would give purpose to do the world completion.
Lisamee ..those 2 computers linked run a 6450 GPU ..waaay to underpowered for GW2.
Its a much more logical choice to save up more money becouse trying to build a, or buy a prebuilt, rig for $400 to play GW2 is gunna give u a rig that will barely last a year b4 needing a whole new one again, and wont run GW2 very well to boot.
I am using the : iBUYPOWER Gamer Power WA501D3 Desktop PC with AMD FX-4100 Processor, 8GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive and Windows 7 Home Premium.
With NVIDIA GT 520 Series Graphics and 1GB dedicated graphics memory. And it runs GW2 and all my other new games like Skyrim, and Sims-3 very well. It cost $498 when i bought it 2012.
I’m also out of things to do because:
— i don’t want to complete the steps required for a legendary.
—crafting is not rewarding
—i don’t like the “as directed” based game play (WvW, pvp)
—there not enough items in the game to play for.
—achievements are text based, and not a real trophy to see and place in the world.
I may still play to collect gold, and save it in hopes customizable player/guild housing, and new items will be added. But even collecting gold is strictly “as directed”.

There are lots of mobs in frostgorge that do not usually drop anything of value, such as drakes, deer, eagles, and more. No one is hunting them so they give very high xp bonus’s.
Also, anywhere underwater (away from quests and resource nodes), is a good place to hunt mobs for bonus xp.
(edited by lisamee.2408)
Gw2 spoiled me for these reasons:
—the easy map travel
—access to the TP anywhere in the world to empty my backpack
—being able to sell items immediately
—easy to find quest locations
—no difficulties in knowing which quests are completed per zone.
—able to deposit crafting materials into the bank.
—storyline quests
(edited by lisamee.2408)
“Gear” and potions/food (a photo in your back pack) is the only items the game currently offers to play for. The main problem is lack of items to play for, which makes the gameplay feel like “grinding, treadmill, trademill” to get that ONE special item offered.
Putting fun into the game needs:
—tons of items to play for
—lots of new items added regularly to continue playing for.
—a place to show off earned treasures/achievements/trophies (custom player housing)
—personalized group settings add social (customizable guild halls)
—a rewarding crafting system.
Most would agree that finding/earning and showing off their treasures/achievments is the main reason to play an online game.
(edited by lisamee.2408)
Crafting shouldn’t be about how much exp it can get you. the problem with profiting from crafting, is everyone’s a crafter.
The problem isn’t that everyone is a crafter. The problem is the GW2 game mechanics so tightly constricted and with few items in game. Plus with no customizable player housing or guild halls, crafting is very limited to what your character can wear and a photo (potions, food) in your back pack.
Two games with the best and most fun crafting systems: Star Wars Galaxies, and Ultima Online.

Some gaming computers at Walmart for <$500. I have one and it plays all the new games very well
RNG is a game breaker, especially if the majority of the game play is based on the RNG. Then add the lack of items to play for…and the RNG really is annoying plus no fun. Then add the diminished returns on top of that.
Musical Instruments.
This would be cool, but it would pretty much be a rip of LOTRO’s system if it was the way I wanted.
I would have no problem with ripping off LOTRO’s system. >.>
Online games have had musical instruments, along with swords, staffs, maces and bows since 1998, that i know of. Sometimes calling the class “bards”.
Decorative items, in world trophies
Adding customizable housing and guild halls would add tons of new items to the game, and tons of new things to play for. Which in turn would add a more sparkling version of these new items in the gem shop!
(edited by lisamee.2408)
The problem as a whole is that there are not enough items in GW2 to play for. So it feels like a “grind” to get the legendary because it requires so many steps and hard to get items. What we really need are tons more items of varied levels of value and varied levels of time required to get it.
So they added a few more items (ascended), but to get those you have to play the game in a very strict and directed way (dungeon or laurels). Which i think takes away from fun, and makes the gameplay weriod, and feels like a grind.
(edited by lisamee.2408)
Interact-able environments where i can have something fun to do other then fight:
— fishing lakes (without constant mob interruption).
—farm fields where i could plant and harvest. (new matts introduced for new items).
—customizable player housing
—customizable guild halls
—many new mini games other then jumping puzzles.
Please all non-instanced, its a huge beautiful world let us have more things to do in it.
—customizable player housing
—customizable guild halls
—lots of new armour, and skins
—make a normal, old school crafting system!
—open world consensual guild vs guild battles.
—open world consensual pvp.
Which would result in tons of new items to play for, and Anet could make lots of money selling the more sparkling version of these new items.
(edited by lisamee.2408)
To look at the loot problem as a whole….there is just not enough items in the game to play for after reaching level 80. There should be a much greater number of items ranging in value for us to have a reason to play for other then the legendary.
No guild in any game is just going to stay forever large or small. Guild leaders have to actively recruit, be active in their own guild, have leaders to help, etc…etc…to remain.
It was normal for me before the patch to very rarely get a rare in a much lower level zone. But none since the patch and im in queendale more often doing the new dailys, so it must be just as rare a drop as before the patch.

I have not completed a single monthy yet. Mainly because i don’t like WvW, and the dungeons/pvp are made for hardcore players…which i am not.
So untill they make monthlys casual/solo player friendly, i won’t be able to complete them nor enjoy their benefits.
Storymode dungeons aren’t made for hardcore players…explorable mode dungeons are. Storymodes are relatively easy, comparatively.
Arah story mode : first time i did it took almost 3 hours…and i was in my panties from dieing so often. Second time didn’t take as long, but still not enjoyable. And both times i did not learn the “mechanics” of the dungeon. So i consider it “hard core” as compared to other game dungeons.
Anyone Know whats that Guild Missions?
Is some type of Large PvE content for Guilds? or is you and 4 guild m8s collect mats or kill 10mobs ?
If is the second, i think that we all do that already…
Its probably going to be similar to the dailys and monthlies. So there might be some activities loved, and some activities hated. Would be nice to get a big list of activities to choose from and with equal reward, so that the non-hardcore player can be included.

5 dungeons in total for this monthly. You can tell if you mouseover the monthly tracker in the top right corner after finishing the daily.
Thanks for answering. I have to finish the daily before it will show me how many dungeons is needed for the monthly? No wonder i’m confused
I’m very confused about the monthly achievement “tiers”.
Dungeons completed tier 1 of 3, means i have to complete how many dungeons??
Yes i agree repairing armour is expensive in GW2. All other games i played the repairs were free, or you learned how to repair yourself, or you bought an inexpensive repair kit.
The fee is especially hard on young players who may die more often while learning the game. Or while learning dungeons, i died so often…i don’t play the dungeons in gw2 anymore .
