Small scale combat is fun to play but boring to watch, larger scale combat is fun to watch but not as fun to play.
Try power necro, offensive meditation guard, a warrior thats not condi, Elementalist D/D, S/D, S/F, D/P thief, shatter mesmer, P/D condi thief, some engi builds – condition hybrids are pretty easy mode.
Pretty much anything besides what everyone else is running – Condi mesmers, condi warriors, condispam engis, condi necros, spirit rangers etc
Eles are still the worst class in the game for pvp, the only eles you’ll see in high level play are there because they are seriously skilled players. The only way to make it as an ele is to completely outplay your opponent, one mistake and it pretty much means your dead. Even skill level pretty much every other class wins.
Spvp promotes playstyles and builds where you don’t have to use your brain to win, thats what isn’t fun.

The reason we went with heal skills first is that we actually believe this is the highest impact area for build diversity.
1) it is a small pool to begin with so adding to it increases choice by a large %
2) it sees a lot of use
3) it heals you which is pretty importantAs time goes on we will also introduce traits, utilities, elites, and potentially other stuff.

Agreed, the two most impacful chages you can make to vastly improve build diversity and viability are adding new Healing skills (or improving current ones), which proved to be key in the case of the Warrior profession (see Healing Signet, the most significant and impacful change that vastly increased Warrior build diversity and viability as a whole), and improving (or adding new) Weapon skills, which was proven by the Sword/Dagger Thief’s significant effectiveness and performance increase after the changes and improvements to Flanking Strike.
The other contenders are obviously Utility skills, Traits and Elite skills, but those two I already named are above these in my opinion.
Sword/Dagger thief was already a very good duelist build before they changed up Sword 3, it just took more precision to kill people than D/D or D/P did at the time. Ironically, it will be a weaker weapon set next week than it was before it was first buffed.
Your a good player man but diamond skin is not a passive trait it is a conditional trait where the player must satisfy a condition too gain the benefit of the trait =\= a signet which gives a static bonus, the truest definition of a passive.

No, if you run a condition build you cant do 1k direct damage. It simply wont be possible. I cant kill an AR engi sitting there on 100 health an regen. Regen alone > my direct damage. And hybrid necro is horribly bad because scepter doesnt scale at all well with power stats outsies of scepter 3 which only does really when they have condis on them – which they wont.
So ye, you cant deal 10% damage. Rabid engis will be the same tbh.
And AR is not nearly as bad as this trait. At least with ar engis every build in the game has some chance of killing them but condi bombing them at 30% health. There will literally be no way a rabid build can even interract with such an ele. And tbh, same even for a carrion build on necro. They still wont be able to hurt the ele.
Like I said, the evidence is in this thread. A while back there was a thread about anet listening to the wrong players. It is time to see if that is truely still the case. You have experienced players lining up and saying this is a very very bad change to the game. And you have inexperienced players defending it for illogical reasons. This is such a simple thing for anet to see. I hope they dont kitten it up with this trait, which only effects pvp and not pve.

Im not saying that necro shouldnt be nerfed. It should be nerfed along with everything else. In fact atm it is probably 5th most powerful class in the game, as whilst it puts out big damage (in the right hands espicially) – it also actually dies and is really weak to the most powerful builds in the game.

There is some seriously disbalanced stuff in this game, Lyssa runes is not one of them. People only started using them because of the need for massive cleansing, condispam is the culprit here.
No Having a full cleanse / full boons on 35 second ICD is OP and must be nerfed. Lyssa needs an ICD of 90s or atleast 60s
Having a full cleanse every 35 seconds isnt OP when I can stack a full load of condis back on you within 15 seconds on an engi/necro. And the only class that has an elite up that soon is a thief with venoms traited, pretty terrible example.

The ramp up on a condi mesmer is huge, basically a signet warrior will outheal you unless you have 3 illusions up.

Should try using a half circle as the effective arena and freeing up the slopes on the side to use.
I can see some GvGs that end up being caught up in the middle being dull, cutting the area in half would closer resemble what the area is now and allow for a good amount of open space while also making the usage of the pillars/torches/slopes more readily available.

When they’re taking up queue spaces to do their own thing and leaving SoS defenders starved for man power in that particular map. It kind of validates it.

Also BG is pretty much the Vizunah of NA with 24/7 coverage and players who man every camp, tower, and keep they own with arrowcarts and siege all over the place and really don’t care because PPT seems to be all they care about. It doesn’t seem like they care about fighting or fights, just points.

Nerf condi spam and it wouldn’t be an issue.
Even with this new arena coming in, GvG scene in NA went from extremely active to more or less non existent after the orb buffs – those are more less negligible now, but don’t really see any active GvGs happening regularly like they use to.
I think there are only a handful of guilds that actually GvG and pursue competition and lots of guilds that will probably only GvG guilds they know they can beat.
Give TW a break. The are a really skilled guild with some good people. It is just under poor management

No, the difference in the numbers you are seeing in the BL is not “buygate”.
We do not detag to discourage our “new WvW players”. We teach them, get them into TS and recruit them into the WvW guilds. All of our WvW guilds have gained in numbers throughout the last three weeks, while SORs map numbers have slowly shrunk.
Its true once or twice when defending garrison we’ve asked achievement hunters to get off if they aren’t on a lvl 80 but it is not the norm of our server at all.
BG has a very large PvE community. We had a large one before Teq, but now its much much larger. Why?
Because the leaders (not myself) of BG were smart enough to open our WvW TS up for the PvE players to use and coordinate to take down Teq. In fact, two of our best WvW commanders became consistent Teq raid leaders and got a huge influx into their guilds because of it. BAM GW2 announces on their facebook page how awesome BG is in PvE and we have a huge influx of PvEers transfer over from everywhere, because everyone wants to beat Teq while they can still get the achievements.
Now comes the part where ANET makes achievements that have a limited time window that can only be done in WvW, aka League. (this is after they give “awesome” chests out for every 500 achievement points you gain). What did you think would happen, all those PvEers flocked into our WvW maps.
Do we complain? Do we detag? No, we do everything we can to show the fresh meat how awesome WvW is by organizing massive TS permission drives for our new players to get into TS. All our WvW guilds recruit like crazy. Some guilds get so full, the only time they can all fit is off hours, like Oceanic or late EU.
Don’t blame BGs influx of numbers on a zerg of 30 Russians. We’ve been working on reaching out for new WvW blood for months, and its starting to hit critical mass.
And for the love of Pete, don’t blame low SOR ticks during NA or Oceanic on that zerg of 30 Russians who are asleep or at work.
That’s the difference between BG & SoR. BG guilds are PvX and recruit as many people as they can. More people = more ppt
SoR is hardcore WvW orientated with a bigger focus on guild quality. CHOO/TW/FEAR/Hel/IRON/ONE/RISE are all under 150 quality members each and are hardcore WvW. We like to keep it that way.
We don’t have a warchest. We don’t buy guilds. We don’t field insane numbers into oceanic, or massively recruit. But at the end of the day, we keep our dignity. Grats on the finisher, Blackgate. See you tomorrow during NA.
SoR is a bunch of hardcore 1-spamming PPT blobbers just like everyone else. The only difference between you and other servers is how much you try to convince everyone else and yourselves how great you are when nobody actually cares for your hypocrisy.
So before this patch (right now) the only class I’ve seen as unviable is elementalist and sometimes mesmer.. after this patch why would anyone bring a warrior or a thief to a 5 man team?
Necros and Engis will be condispamming the points like they do now, and the only thing that can burst those classes down will be mesmer or another condiburst class?

Believe it is, I played WvW for several hours, never got the achievement and ended up transferring off my server 2-3 days after leagues started and still haven’t gotten the achievement unlocked.
Add a counter showing how many people from your server are on a borderland and EB and have it update in real time or close to real time – AFK and non AFK alike. The people that really care about determining how much coverage they have at a given time will do the work from there.

So you’ve played Guardian a lot in WvW? If you have, you’re doing it wrong. But that’s not the point, just deflecting the question. I can understand that some people find it fun to go about solo. However I read a lot of posts in match up threads by solo roamers complaining that there either isn’t enough solo roamers or the opposing roamers aren’t any good. I’m just trying to figure out what the point is? Honestly. The Guardian you refer to does something for his/her team, in a game that is specifically designed for team play.

There are never enough solo roamers. The opposing servers solo roamers are always bad. The enemy servers are always hiding in towers. All the opposing servers ever do is blob. Every enemy is running a cheesey perplexity build. Guild ‘X’ wont fight with anything less than double our numbers. Etc etc etc. Based on WvW matchup threads thats apparently just the way of the world….vs world.
People don’t solo roam anymore because solo roaming = fight cheesey gimmick builds or play a cheese build now a days. Might as well play sPvP, its more efficient.
Pretty sure GD left because there was no one competent enough to fight them on a regular basis. Believe it or not some people get bored of PvD.
Why are you adding it to obsidian sanctum in stead of just making it its own map? Last I checked Obsidian Sanctum was a jumping puzzle that sometimes people use parts of as an arena because there isn’t a WvW statted arena.
If it’s being added to the dropdown anyway then why not just make it its own map so people who want to use it don’t have to disturb people trying to do/prevent others from doing the JP?
Obviously crossbreeding this “gametype” with WvW proper was incompatible… why would you do the same thing again?
I believe the logic is to create the JP as a type of “overflow” WvW map to combat ques on the other maps while at the same time accomodating GvG, which would also combat ques.

Boulderblog is correct, it use to be the case that the only way I could find SoR to fight (being on JQ) would be to make the tedious journey to their north camp and fight PD or some other random scouts sitting on siege back and forth till they would call in the zerg.
Anyways, BG has quite a few organized small man groups that are very competent and a good amount of random solo roamers as well. I would argue that JQ has less organized roaming groups but more random solo roamers.
If your into karma training and zerging and big fights then it doesn’t really matter, all will be a good choice.

Well looks like GvG lives on… only in T1. Agg vs Rise seemed pretty balanced orb-wise. Think all their matches were 1 orb a piece over an hour.

Im not complaining at all. The class is not overpowered. I just don’t think its under powered. It has 2 viable weapon sets (like a lot of classes). Good support too. 20 air, 20 water and 30 arcane wont 100-0 anyone but no other class can 100-0 too. Seriously i don’t see why s/d or d/d ele needs a buff. The other weapon sets probably do tho

The burst potential on a class alone does not make it “good” or worth taking. This is a gametype designed around 5v5 not how much damage can something do to someone who’s not expecting it.
Healing signet, mobility, and CC basically defines new-age warrior builds.
As long as a build uses all 3 you’ve capitalized on all warrior strengths. So yea disengaging engage disengaging often makes sense.
Maybe running away the majority of the time and using broken mechanics like unlimited teleports such as the S/D thief you play constitutes skill for thieves? I think for the actual gaming community that is called cheap and getting carried by your class.
As for warriors, running away half the time is fun now? If you are running away half the time from a fight against a good group then your team mates will get ripped since you are there half the time.
A good player stays in for the majority of the fight to help the group, not run away and leave his group members on their own. Hell..you can just equip GS and sword and run away 80% of the time if this is the definition of a good war player.
Sorry but I’m not convinced that running away from fights the majority of the time constitutes skill nor fun.
For someone claiming to speak on what the “online gaming community” consists of.. its pretty obvious you don’t play much PvP in this game. Please show us your videos of you playing a glass cannon and staying in a close proximity fight outnumbered without disengaging and winning.
