Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Ah, it was quite some time since we had one of these “buhuhu manifesto!!”-threads.
They talked about dynamic event chains and such in the manifesto. And that is very much true.
If you complete a dynamic event it does (until you fail the follow-up event) change stuff.
The thing is that having actual choices in a game as large as this is more or less impossible.
1: They would either need to create two (or more) completely different versions of content.
or
2: Don’t start making it until the decision is made, which means it will take quite some time before the effects are actually seen. Which people seemed to dislike quite a bit with the Cutthroat Politics release.
They can’t both have 2-week updates and at the same time have choices that effects the next release.
I share your hope, but its been 2 years. Numerous livestreams have stated they are focusing on making a living breathing world, and unfortunately I’m losing hope in an expansion any time soon.
The vast majority of games does not get expansions before that time have passed though.
Why assume they aren’t working on an expansion?
We KNOW that there are teams working on big things behind the scenes.
It’s still conquest so no they didn’t
No it isn’t.
You are a bit late to the part (or well, a couple of weeks late). They have already confirmed that every single part of the Living Story in Season 2 will be permanent. Either by logging in during the 2 week (or more) period or by buying it for 200 gems.
They did add a new map in November 2012, and everyone seems to hate it. So maybe they will make sure to spend much more time on the next map added, instead of adding it for the sake of adding?
It also seems very likely that we will get new maps rather soon, seeing as we are headed to areas currently not accessible in game.
How are they the same? I don’t remember them being 13g for 100 gems.
The gem-store and ArenaNet does not take gold to gem ratio into account. The actual monetary value of gems is however exactly the same as it was at release.
The gem-prices are exactly the same today as they were at release.
No need to lower them.
Lorewise? Do you know anything about Ritualist lore? Or were you speaking about the Dervish lore? Which also doesn’t have to be permanent. The gods left, they can return just as easily.
Do agree with the secondary profession mechanic issue though. Its a better game without it.
Lorewise the Guardians have taken abilities from Paragons, Monks and Ritualists and created the new Guardian profession.
The fact that the gods left is not much of an issue. The fact that the gods are strictly humans on the other hand is.
Ritualist and Paragon is basically already in the game via the Guardian (lorewise) Dervish simply wouldn’t work due to how tied it is to the human gods.
They removed the planned secondary professions mechanic because it was a nightmare to balance (as seen in GW1).
Oh, I get that people don’t like it.
But that wasn’t really the point.
The OP suggested that sPvP was not being updated anymore, which is quite clearly false, seeing as there was quite a bit of sPvP stuff added with the feature-patch.
Stuff exists even if people dislike it after all.
It had more PvE things.
WvW got nothing except PvE cross-overs like sigils and rune changes.
SPvP got reward tracks. While aesthetic customization was destroyed.
It had basically 1 strictly PvE thing.
MegaServers.
sPvP got reward tracks, updated rank progression a new map + game-mode.
Did someone forget that the last big patch (the Feature Patch) had more sPvP stuff than PvE-stuff?
No response means exactly that: no response. These picks could come back. More picks of the same vein may come back. Who knows?
Don’t buy picks that don’t give sprockets because you’ll feel really stupid if the watchwork pick returned at a later date.
And yet these picks have NOT come back (despite others having done so after the release of these ones) and none of the new gathering tools have had extra effects.
I suppose it is still possible that they will re-release this one and release new ones with effects, but it is rather unlikely, seeing as they haven’t done so yet.
It also seems that there are no new maps or major developments for WvW in the process, remember that were already half way through the year and have received no new road map (even though the other one is still incomplete)
Or maybe they have learned to not announce anything before it is close to release in order to avoid the constant whining about announced things not being in the very next patch or stuff changing.
I thought the idea behind megaserver was suppose to make it so you were paired with your friends and guildmates. Why am I constantly having to get a taxi to their map version? I play with them all the time. Wasn’t there suppose to be a smart system that paired you with friends and guild mates if the maps weren’t full?
A map have two states of full though.
First state of full is when no new people can join the map on their own and requires a taxi to get in.
The second state of full is when it is completely full and you can’t even get in with taxi.
Popular maps hit the first state of full rather fast, and as such you will be put on another one.
still waiting on rewards also
Syn Strykiir
Dragonbrand server
You are a bit late to the party.
It will be fixed with Tuesdays patch.
Why we have to wait until 17th June? This is a bug fix not a new feature. PvE bugs are fixed as soon as possible even if It’s not tuesday.
Partly because they need time to fix and test it.
And partly because even if it was done right now, releasing it on a Friday is not such a good idea if it kitten up something on Live that won’t be fixed until Monday at the earliest.
Post in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-Part-2-merged
But that is just the thing.
If they post and tell us that they are still working on it people will complain about them not telling us anything.
And if they don’t, people complain about them not posting.
What is the point of posting until they have changed their position (which right now is working on it)?
How much development experience do you have Phoenixlin?
The point of a competitiong if everyone get the same reward? whats the points of the league? just put the toket as week rewards then, dont make something that is supposed to be rewarded to thouse who tried to get their server up, and not to everyone.
So go to olimpics and just give everybody a Gold Medal except to the first ofc, because he deserves 2
But to be fair those that win will have more tickets than those that came last.
The winner still gets as many more tickets as the others. Correct?
To the people complaining:
Would you rather be completely unable to ever see the story parts you missed, like it was in season 1?
2 months and not even an acknowledgement.
Well done ANet devs and mods.
slow clap.
To be fair we have been given at least one acknowledgement in this very thread.
But I suppose it is more fun to claim they haven’t even bothered.
Developers/Anet : this is unacceptable. Give us an update on what is going on and what you are going to do to compensate us.
Why would they need to compensate us though?
What have you lost due to this delay?
It is not like you have a monthly subscription to pay for the game or the game being unplayable.
Ironically enough, the dungeons that people claims to be the best (Pirate base and Molten Facility) were created by a living story team rather than a dungeon team, so maybe the choice to merge the dungeon team with living story team was a good call?
The fact still remains that if there was a bug interfering with the Gem Store, you could rest assured that it’d be fixed within 24 hours.
To be fair in most cases HTML-based issues are more easily solved than software based ones.
It is also most likely a much higher priority seeing as those issue have to do with actual money (both for the company and for the players).
I thought this was the fastest selling MMO of all time.
So…?
That information was based on stuff from almost TWO YEARS ago, do you really think they can live on those monies forever?
I am from Germany. We have also laws regulating working time. We stumbled over a mind-blowing concept several thousand years ago, called “shifts”. It is widely used in areas which have to provide 24/7 service, like police, hospitals and fire brigades. While you probably don’t need a full staff during the small hours (even on weekends people sleep), the aforementioned concept may help to cover weekends.
And no, you don’t need more people. You have only to distribute the working time in another way.
Quite impressive that Germany stumbled over a concept several hundreds of years before it existed
I am fully aware of shifts. Getting shifts to work in software development is rather hard though.
Especially since every new person they hire to fill those spots will need to spend weeks if not months to actually learn the code and the system used by the company before they can even start working on said shift.
EDIT: Yes, you need more people. Spreading out a workforce that already (in some peoples eyes) have issues with fixing stuff, won’t make fixing stuff easier. It is rather unlikely that they have people employed during days if they are not needed, and as such they can’t really remove those people from the day-works and put them on night and/or weekend work without effecting the whole company structure.
(edited by lordkrall.7241)
I think US employers can get away with a lot, but there are rules for sure. That’s not the point though…. nobody thinks that our devs should be forced to work more. In this economy though, they could easily find some people willing to work nights/weekends if its a staffing issue. MMO’s are like working in healthcare…. hospitals never close syoure always working at odd times. I’m on my lunch break right now, and its 5am here. Comes with the territory.
So the solution is basically to hire more people? With which money?
And even if they had the money it would still take quite some time for them to learn the code and the systems used so they would be unable to do those night/weekend shifts for a rather long time anyway.
While I accept that debugging takes its time, I cannot understand the Friday/Monday argument Mr Katzbach made. MMO is leisure time entertainment, as is for example Disney World. In both cases the main numbers of players/visitors will appear on weekends. It would make no sense to close Disney World over the weekend because their employees want to spend time with their family. And it makes no sense to reduce the staff of ArenaNet during weekends either. That includes developers, especially after a screw up. If anything the weekend staff should be even more numerous on weekends.
And how long do you think the company would survive if they burn out all of their employees by forcing them to work 7 days a week?
I don’t know about the US but at least here in Sweden there are actually laws that regulates how much people are allowed to work each week.
Can people please stop comparing the number of PvE and Gemstore fixes/updates with WvW fixes?
I understand that it might be a hard concept to grasp, but different things takes different amount of time to fix. Are you really suggesting that they should put everything else on hold until they have fixed a specific issue that effects you rather than working on it while still fixing other stuff (that the majority of the player-base is actually effected by)?
You know Mark responds to your post and you should ask him.
I am more interested in your answer
Totally understand the complaints because, adults and kids alike, all have invested much time and energy in the game yet their rewards have not been honored.
And how much time and energy do you think ArenaNet have and still are investing in the game and this bug?
That’s why they still didn’t fix season 1 rewards, it’s about priorities and assigning ressources, which obviouslilly wvw doesn’t get enough. Funny enough the same reward system (get achievement X, get mail Y) works in pve, think about it.
If you really think it is the same system in PvE as here you are rather ignorant.
In PvE it is simply “complete this achievement and get this reward as soon as it is done”.
In WvW it is “complete this achievement, and then at the end you get a reward based on your placement”.
Let’s face how ANet rolls:
Bug in trading post, hotfixed after 3h
Rox’ left shoe has wrong color fixed after 24h
Bugged wvw rewards, a week and counting
Yeah, because all issues are as easy to resolve.
For some reason with spelling and grammar like that I find it hard to believe you are employed anywhere…
They’re a developer not an English teacher.
Why are you quoting me? I did never write that.
or watch it trough a stream website for free, allot cheaper……
Not legal in most countries though And I doubt they take illegal alternatives into consideration, but that might just be me.
Currently I find it hillarious that people are complaining about the 200gem price in case they’ve missed the episode.
…and then the same people complain about not getting an expansion. Sigh.
Of course, but now that ArenaNet took their whole “no permanent content” complain away from them, they must find something new.
They must have something to complain about after all.
No, the Joker is not evil.
He wants chaos, nothing else, and as such he wouldn’t really be classified as evil.
And funnily enough with all this is that Scarlet was basically a Joker-ish character in S1.
Based on what the devs said when it was datamined, never.
So basically not really evil at all, but rather chaotic?
1 – yes those are present but the way it was done, is preschool level of complexity when it comes to emotions.
2 – who is talking about 100% evil lol, you seem to not understand what is being talked about here pls stay out of the thread./the end I will not reply to any further attempts from you.
Please feel free to give an example of what you would have done different that would make it less “preschool”, because I for one wouldn’t want to show quite a few things in this game to people that young.
So what do you mean with true evil then?
True evil doesn’t exist in the real world, so why should it exist in the game?
There is always a reason as to why people act the way they do, and evil is in the eye of the beholder.
1: Ah yes, genocide, mass-destruction, death, loss of home and loved ones is perfect for preschool children…
2: Ironically enough the fact that you want something that is 100% evil would suggest that you are on the level you claim the story is.
In the real world there is nothing that is 100% evil, that only happens in cartoons and children stories.
If they had that information to share I am sure they already would have done so.
It could be a lead toward solving the issue.
Wait what?? A “lead” ? I thought this issue is almost fixed….wow
To be fair they have never said that.
They have said that they have found the issue and are working on it, nothing more than that.
lol, because I’m secretly plying for an expansion pack. Charging for content is the first step on that road.
Once ANet charges for content then they have to deliver something worthy of buying it in the first place. I think many players would agree that little in LS Season 1 was worthy of purchase.
So in a round about way, I’m lobbying to make the game better by channeling revenue towards content instead of cosmetic fluff.
Anyway, that is my motivation — pure and simple.
To be fair it is not uncommon for companies to released paid expansions that still sucks.
Actually, i’m a dev myself and i can tell you something for sure: Finding the bug origin is quite hard when you got no idea where it is coming from, that’s true. But once you find it, most companies that really cares will ask you hot fixes even if you need to stay the whole night fixing it. Well, that’s how it works in my company and a lot of others, you can’t let a bug so huge, say you know where it is coming from and ask for a whole week delay when you just have some number to change. I dunno if you dev yourself but checking if your (bool) or your (!bool) isnt really hard. GW2 team just do not give enough attention to their customer, as you might notice from the WvW saison 1 rewards still not fixed.
And how large is your developing company?
I am personally I dev myself as well and at leastwhere I work workers and such have rights. The management can’t force people to abandon their life and work themselves to death in order to fix an issue, that might not be fixable that swift anyway.
The fact remains that you have no information about how hard this bug is to fix, how much work is needed and how high priority this is compared to other issues.
Keep in mind that the bug is rather non-game breaking even though it is a bit annoying, and as such, it might very well not be considered a priority one issue if something more urgent comes in.
Such logic. So if you don’t like your bread’s baker, you must be a baker yourself to be allowed to judge it ? Such logic once more, please stop being fanboy, we “haterz” hate this game and spam the forum, that’s a well known fact while you “fanboys” should just play it and let haters hate :>
If you guys wanna answer me, just get “legit” argument, i know i’m not being kind with this game staff, but find descent arguments to answer me or just do not care about me thanks kkbye
No, it was more like the fact that you basically stated that the devs suck at their job because they haven’t fixed it yet, and I questioned your ability and knowledge to actually do that in a fair way.
It does not matter. It’s their job to get things done. They are payed for that and if they can’t do it on scheduled times they need to be replaced. For us this might be a game, but for them it’s a company and in a company if certain members are not working properly they either get better on what they are doing or they get replaced. And assuming that this is the same crap that happened in season 1, they are not getting better.
Shouting about how bad people are at their work without even having any form of knowledge or experience of that kind of work is very silly though.
We have no idea how hard this issue is to solve, and finding a bug does not magically fix it.
