a necro is out in wvw and he sees a zerg heading his way so he switchs to his horn to help him get away but he cant sustain enough speed so he switch to his spectral walk to continue to try and out run the zerg coming . and out of no where a elementalist knocks the necro off his feet and so the zerg catchs up to the necro and destroys him in less than a second .

yeah i didn’t find it funny either after the 6 billionth time that happen too .

how ( happy / disappointed ) are you with the changes to the necromancer class with this new patch ?

1 being disappointed
10 being happy

for me it’s a 1 . i feel that with what ever changes they had in mind , was meant in purpose to nerf the class than buff it . and as well as many people who have expressed themselves in the past about what kind of changes they would like to get , that it was something not to be .

so the next question is what were their thoughts behind the changes for the necro ?

this topic is meant to get insight from the players and ask them how would they design the necromancer class . it’s not meant to bash or harass other peoples opinions . so with that being said lets get this started !!!

when most people think of a necromancer typically they think of a very few things .

1. they summon the undead
2. they life tap
3. they have curses that render opponents motionless or send them fleeing
4. they have spells that cause damage over time

and for the most part you could say that is what a necromancer does already in gw2

but here is where lies the problems
almost everything a necromancer does have access to also has a trade off .

in total the class reeks of failure to live up to what a real necromancer is all about .

the minions move so slow that it is not a problem for anyone to out run or dodge the attack of a minion

the life tap is so low that it’s simply not enough to help a necromancer build any attrition at all when a warrior or ele or thief can simply white wash a chunk of a necros health away

the ability to snare or fear or root in this game is so non existent that the time frame for using such abilities do not last a good proper while and on top of that almost everyone has access to cleansing or transforming them into buffs .

and our dots might work in theory but are lack luster when they get nullified and do not stick when condition removal is so present and active .

so necromancers can be good at one thing but weak in others
and yes a lot of it is mostly a core gaming issue that can apply to every class .

how would i fix this ?

it’s simple

give necro pets fury to chase who ever they are fighting within a 900 radius
increase the draw amount for life taps to make up for our own " healing "
put in a penalty towards players that remove the necros snare , root, fear, as damage
and dots such as poison , bleeds , and torment that get removed also gives a penalty of damage .

what say you ?

that’s because it is hitting the same target in that charge 5 times . did you know if you line it up just right you use to one shot lowbies out in wvw ?

necros have always been the red headed step child of the game , so if rangers , engies and necros are getting the least love , while guardians , warriors , eles. mesmers , and thieves get the most love , expect a lot more people quitting the game as a result of it or more people rolling the loved classes . but to "balance " it all out they will be adding new abilities for each class in the game , maybe arena net has something planned for necros to finally get them over . otherwise we can just sit back and watch how arena net completely lay waste to a game that could of had a lot of potential . but i like to see it more as just the same old same old , history likes to repeat itself .

do not buy the lie that necros are the " attrition " class of the game . they are the road block class instead . if you want attrition go guardian or warrior . now as for why necros are worthy of being selected ? they do plenty of damage over time that is aoe based . , they have minions to fight for them , they got a few good snares to use in fights , and movement means everything until someone is spamming stability . but movement is everything ! as for other reasons ? they can remove conditions , they can consume conditions . and they have very interesting support in wells . granted it’s not the best but its okay .

they dont stop to then attack , if they are going after something or someone that is on the move and if the minion is near them to attack them then they should attack them while moving ., this stop to then attack crap needs to end !

i want minion pathing to be better . so many times i see my minions get stuck or obstructed .

their ranged attack needs to be quicker . its so dumb that not only a necromancers staff 1 ability , death shroud 1 ability is slow that players or npcs can simply step aside and not get hit at all , but the ranged attack of some minions attacks are slow too . i want the speed on their attacks to be increased . it’s as if these minions try to attack but only miss a good 90 % of the time and players or npc’s don’t even need to dodge .

im running a ret build and i find it funny that back in the past retaliation use to be so good but arena net thought that it needed to be nerfed , as for the reason why ? i have no clue , maybe they thought classes that pvp that are dumbed down needed to be auto pilot to get their wins , who knows . one thing is for sure . if retaliation were to come back and i mean back to where it use to be would you all consider running it ?

Well, this patch – the supposed big BUG FIX patch – confirms it. Necros are not the red-headed step-children of GW2.

No. We are the congenitally-deformed illegitimate spawn of a $2 hooker shamefully conceived down a dark alley behind a stinking dumpster sitting atop a fetid cesspool of slime and filth who ArenaNet will never recognize nor accept as being one of its children.

And you know what? That’s OK. We’re necros. You beat us, we get stronger. You kick us when we’re down, we learn how to stand on our feet. We endure. We survive.

They are right to fear us becoming OP if they were to ever fix everything wrong with the profession. Because you know what? We would be! Think about it; despite all that is bugged, we still manage to hold our own and even dominate in some instances. Imagine what it would be like if they actually corrected all our shortcomings; we’d be Gods Walking Amongst Mere Mortals (and then we’d be nerfed into the ground)!

This isn’t to excuse ArenaNet’s lack of attention or be an apologist for them. Quite the contrary, I’d much rather the outstanding issues be fixed rather than ignored (to speak nothing of adding new bugs; * cough * staff traits * cough *). That said, we’ve remained fanatically loyal to necromancy and taken a bottom-of-the-barrel class that almost no one plays and made it prevail against all odds.

Unfortunately, this now puts the devs between the proverbial rock and a hard place. Fix our remaining bugs, clean up our traits, improve our sustain to bring us in line with the stated vision of us being attrition fighters, and add a fifth skill to Death Shroud and we’ll be nigh unstoppable.

So where do we go from here?

you keep telling yourself that , im sure it helps with the other bs you have to deal with to get through the day .

i am for one SICK of arena net ignoring this class , so i will do them one better , im going to ignore this game till it get it’s head out of it’s on you know what . and start playing the class and get face rolled till they decide to give a crap about the necro

arena net is one of the worst companies i have ever seen when it comes to patching and fixing classes.

but after looking at the patch notes im going to take another month long break from this game , if arena net is not serious about fixing the real problems that plague the necromancer class than neither am i playing this game .. i hate all the other classes because they don’t fit my style of play and i hate the pve in this game . i prefer pvp in wvw . thats all i care about . so arena net wants to give us necros the shaft i say give it back to them by not playing their game !!!

Sigil of Demon Summoning for minion masters

demon summoning summons the coolest looking pet in the entire game , and would be nice if it lasted with you till it died . but in it’s current format

26 kills to summon , lasting only 60 seconds , once summoned you gain no demon again ,

the sigil is a piece of crap .

here is what they need to do with it .

like with the superior rune of the ogre to summon a rock dog based on getting hit you have a % chance for it to summon , treat the sigil of summoning the demon much like the same way as the rock dog . if they did that then i would get it in a heart beat . until then , arena net doing something about this sigil id put as much hope on them doing that as much as id put hope on arena net doing something that would restore my faith in wvw of guild wars 2

For me WvW has some things going for it that i like , 3 sides fighting for control on the map , no true disadvantage on their being a class the other side does not have access to , or race for that matter . when you die out in wvw the fee to repair armor is almost nothing , and if you have the outmanned buff it is nothing . these things are great , the idea that realm ranks were brought in is great . crowed control is not insane to the point that it would make someone rage quit , and the siege is awesome that anyone can get blueprints , lay them down , build the siege and there you go .

however when i think of the negatives , they out number the positives in my opinion quite a bit here is a list of them

- the maps for wvw are way to small . seriously if i was in hills or at bay and saw a tower getting attacked i could get to it before it flipped , there are way few towers and keeps to begin with and they are so close to one another .

- this 25 Stack on everything / 5 people can only be effected is ruining the fun of this game when zergs can just easily storm through and kill just about anything without getting their numbers mowed down also .

-no incentive for guilds to claim when they really dont gain anything of real value for doing wvw , so what you get a tiny little buff that gave you 10 % more karma , woopity doo ,

-no incentive to care if you win or lose in wvw , bragging rights do not and ill repeat do not mean CRAP , people want to feel rewarded for their hard work they put into this game , we see it in pve and dungeons and even spvp , but why is it that in wvw it continues to go ignored ?

-siege itself is sort of a joke , the damage they do is so low to players that no one is scared of a normal arrow cart , no you need at least 3 or 4 of superior arrow carts for people to not bother with a place

-the Guards alone are weak sauce , on my necromancer i can take a supply camp by myself , the guards need to be buffed !!

-the maps themselves are boring in design , why is it we get 3 maps of the same design and one map different ? why not make the other 3 maps different like for example
1 being a desert area with pyramids , 1 being a jungle area with huge trees , and 1 being a snowy land area with these ice castles ,

i have lots of ideas on what i like about wvw and what i dont like , what are some of yours pros and cons ?

only have a few like 1 to each city , and add mounts to the game . i feel that putting in this many way points in the game takes away the sense of adventure when you can simply map hop all over the place via teleportation . with mounts on the other hand i think it would bring in a new dynamic to the game and some what of a incentive to travel . the way points though the game sorta ruins that sense of mystery and danger of exploration ., now i know a lot of people like the way points and i fully understand that , that is why im suggesting that the waypoints should only be in the 6 major cities , as for the rest of the world . traveling on a mount would be epic , to get to one place to the next
,

the concept of dying , lets say you have binding stones at some of these “towns” in the map you are on , if you died you could respawn at that safe location .

look at the risen , they look undead , switch out the risen undead with the current necro pets and every necromancer would be needing to pinch themselves because they would think they were dreaming

our blood fiend would be a risen wizard
our bone minions would be 2 skellys with swords
our shadow fiend would be a risen wrath
our bone fiend would be a skelly with a bow
our flesh worm would be a big skelly arm from the ground that throws stuff
our flesh golem would be a risen abomination

if arena net did this i would die of a stroke . but i would have a big ole smile on my face because i would be happy

you guys are looking at the reason why minions have no regen all the wrong reasons

the main reason why they have no regen is so that players would not park their character near a spawn point and go afk for hours of end allowing them to come back and pick up as many loot bags what ever your pets killed , think about it

you trait minions to have 30 % more damage , 50% more health , trait to get the 50% more life siphon and Trait to get when minions attack they Life siphon and transfer it back to you . if all your minions also regained their life you could literally go afk at some spot where a npc spawns and once it attacked you your minnions would then start attacking it and killing it , after that their health would regenerate back to full health to then kill again and they would never die . you have a blood fiend , bone minions , shadow fiend , flesh golem , flesh worm , bone fiend , granted you cant summon all of them together but still . even with shadow fiend bone fiend blood fiend and flesh golem and flesh worm they would never die , you would get free xp , loot bags . that is why they dont regen , and the flesh golem on it on can take 1 npc , imagine all of your pets . it would be a no contest .

gw2 to have sorta the same realm rank abilities that were seen in daoc ?

me personally i would love it because then i would feel like im finally doing something with my character instead of it festering away

the gw2 version of realm ranks are at best CARE BEAR compared to that of daocs realm ranks .

all im asking for is something that contributes to powering my character just a little more towards other players that is not related to siege equipment but actual skills !!

nice little thing i use to do to ( wars , dervs , paragons , assassins ,rangers , )

Enfeeble + Insidious parasite = Fun watching them kill themselves as they heal me for lulz .

smart people who knew they had that on themselves would either remove the curse / disease or take a time out because they were not allowed to attack me if they wanted to live .

it takes little to no intelligence to play my build . i use marks to hit them first slow them down use 3 then 2 and switch to dagger focus , hit with 5 then 4 then 3 then 2 and use flesh golem to knock them down , use bone fiend to root them again , if i have dots after that , switch to staff hit them with 4 , and 5 and then jump in ds to fear again and 2 then finish them off with life transfer , out out of ds stomp , me smiley face

In terms of RvR /WvW people like myself who have played both games can make this statement

first daoc . 15 $ a month for rvr in the past pre toa expansion / ea mythic . the rvr for that game was . EPIC

second gw2. no monthly fee for wvw , monthly updates , changes / balances , the wvw for this game is . Carebear

im starting to think that in terms of how things turn out in the end are going to be the opposite but not in every aspect .

for starters . gw2 is not going to change their policy on a monthly fee i assume and as for daoc , they still do the monthly fee so that has not changed nor will it ever .

but here is where i ponder the subtle changes .

where as daocs rvr started out as great and became a flop later on. i look at gw2 wvw as a flop and will turn out great .

point 1.
6 or 7 months in no rank system for wvw gw2 but they finally put it in .
daoc always had a rank system but ruined the ability to increase at low levels later only to be max level to finally get ranked higher ( opposite)

point 2.
Daoc has a place called darkness falls where as players who gained control of the rvr map could then enter the zone to earn tokens to buy armor /weapons , but ruined it later with toa expansion .
it’s been rumored that gw2 might install a “darkness falls zone” to lessen up the que times for wvw and give reason for players an incentive to do wvw to get armor / weapons that would be the same as dungeon armor / weapons or possible precursors

point 3. in daoc the games rvr system was ruined when they combined servers together which allowed the " Xrealmer" to join what ever winning side they wished for rvr later on .
Gw2 early had some “Xrealmers” but then changed it so that for players to transfer servers , they had to pay in order to get on another server to experience the WvW content of that server . ( Opposite)

if things continue the way i see it .. we might be looking at a mmo that might become the late great daoc . that all depends on the staff of arena net for their hard work .

and in that case . Godspeed arena net !!

Today is the BIG day , with us waiting at our computers for any news on what changes we will see and discover in game , This Patch is going to restore some life back into the game , people are going to be eager to test out the wvw ranks and will be zerging like crazy , chances are you probably might rage while wanting to get into the game .

for others , they might see it as something that will be nice for the time being but nothing to get to excited over.

as like many people here i welcome the added stuff to wvw and welcome even more stuff like a darkness falls perhaps ??? but im getting to ahead of myself . i can’t wait for this patch to give me some incentive to want to do wvw .

i know we all have an update to look forward to this month , and yes rolling out a new character is an option for me . but to me it seems like this game like with many other mmos , has hit a snag and im finding myself not enjoying this game like when i first played it .

to me it seems like all the fun of leveling up a character and getting it geared up has all stopped and im just not feeling the joy in this game like i use to , don’t get me wrong , i still enjoy sometimes doing wvw from time to time .

but even that is becoming stale and predictable , there just is no excitement or objectives that matter for me when i do go into wvw knowing that the tower i just took is going to be taken back and it serves me no interest at all in this game , the idea of taking a tower or a keep should have value to your guild and server , but the more and more i do this i see that this is in no way benefiting when no one gains or loses anything of true value , perhaps if you told me that with each tick a tower my guild claimed was granting them some kind of monetary value , i could say yes this is important . but that is not the case here in this game .

this whole debate of which server is the best is nothing more than propaganda to claim which server really suffers the most with que time for wvw .

being tier 1 you might see more action there than you would normally on other tiers lower round the clock but the lower tiers don’t have to worry about que times like the top tiers do .

and even being tier 1 is not that special at all , mostly you see zergs running around because using strategy or tactics completely goes out the window when you can simply zerg everything down and take things out with numbers . there is no true battlefields for generals in wvw where holding strategic positions on the map would help aid you more than who you are fighting . no it’s just mindless zerging and unfortunately it’s quite embarrassing compared to the rvr of daoc , a game that came out in 2001 still to this day has a better rvr system than guild wars 2 which came out last year .

then you have the legendary weapons themselves , all that work for a weapon with the same stats as an exotic and it makes little no difference at all if you have one or not . so what if your sword is fancy and neato , i can use an exotic weapon and still beat the same foe as you and it changes nothing .

this game needs something fresh , something new , something that will keep my interest , a new expansion is just the thing to pump more life into this game , problem is that the people at arena net have made statements that they don’t have any plans for an expansion any time soon and that they are more focused on the living story

what ever the living story is , im not interested in it because it serves me no reason to care , the personal story rewarded you as you leveled up , this living story from what i have seen does no such thing to my knowledge .

im just hoping that with this new update , it will give me a reason to stick around longer , because at this moment i am burnt out on this game and im not enjoying it anymore .

In the mmorpg daoc there was a place that allowed the winning side with the most towers /keeps /castles the right to enter this place called darkness falls , while the winning side went into the place they could gain tokens to buy / armor / and weapons that helped aid their character , it also gave a chance for the other 2 realms to take back control of the towers / keeps / castles that they had lost so that their realm could gain control and enter darkness falls , if darkness falls switched control while there were still people inside darkness falls that lost control the map in rvr by losing towers and keeps, they could still remain inside darkness falls but if they died they could not get back unless their side regained control of the rvr map to then switch control back to their side .

this method did away with a tier system , and it also encouraged rvr play from the realms

i believe something like this is needed badly in guild wars 2 , i see more often than not with each week that goes by people are doing wvw in this game with no incentive for them to even care if their server has the most points or not because they don’t gain anything from doing wvw .

the current system we have in place is causing people to leave the game and for what ? are they not having fun anymore ? are there other games that are more appealing ? could they be doing something for their hard work and getting rewarded for it ? yes yes and yes !!!

arena net , i beg of you to think this over . we don’t care who comes in first place or last anymore because the winners and losers gain nothing at the end of the day for our hard work . and that has what this game has become “Work”. work is not fun , we play the game to have fun , not to work .

now i know lot of people will disagree with me and might bring up some good reasons as to why im wrong . but im not here to debate with them on who is right and who is wrong , im just bringing up something i know a lot of people could enjoy .

i have a necro mm and if i saw a zerg of mm running towards me id be scared to death , all those flesh golems charging at me knocking me down several times , and getting feared for at least 4 to 7 seconds with it all stacking , insane !!!

no , life siphon / life drain / life tap does not count towards vitality or healing , although it does heal you it is not the same as healing since you are doing damage with it , and by that measure alone you might want to look at a powermancer build to try and maximize the damage you are doing through life stealing , keep in mind that this is currently a bug and the devs are working on this , so as soon as they get it fixed , our healing factor will proc with life stealing and necros will be a real beast to deal with . as for right now you can still manage by but don’t expect to sustain yourself in a fight till the march or april or may or june patch when anet decides to fix this bug .

When i look at the thief as a whole there is many great things i like from it but i tend to notice that the class is far from being perfect . with that being said let me pick a part that could better overall set this class up to be what it needs to be

gear based around the class . thief have the option to go : glass canon , bunker , mix , condi , or spam .

imo the best thiefs i have played against were bunker based thiefs since they mitigate your damage and still bring out heavy damage .

condi thiefs are great for long fights too but they need to maintain pressure in order for them to kill

glass canon is great because they can do tons of damage and are great at 1v1 encounters .

mixed are okay but have their place because they can do a little bit of everything for all sorts of fights

last is spam , they generate enough initiative to literally spam cloak and dagger heart seeker for a pure 1v1 based fight ,

i like that we have so many options to go to in what we want to play , but im kinda worried as to what might get taken from us who enjoy playing the way we do .
i just hope nothing drastic happens .

in my opinion stealth is such a easy mechanic that allows players the ability to escape certain death due to the lack of defensive quality that other classes have more of . mesmers use stealth to mostly for run an gun tactics where as thiefs use stealth for either a big opening attack or to escape a situation that could result in their own death .

most people will say it’s player skill , but i bet anyone that if their class had a 10 second stealth on foot to escape certain death they would more likely use it over any other skill . so i look at the class in general and can see poor class design that requires stealth to begin with .

they could nerf master of terror and make it 20 % to the 3 seconds
