I’m no stranger to WvW, I’ve just never really done it on Thief.

I stopped playing my Thief regularly when they took the stunbreaker from Sword #2. Back when I did play, it was all casual PvE stuff (a lot of easy mode dungeons like TA F/F & U/U and CoF1). I’d still take her out for the rare Daily, but that’s about it. When the April update came along, I couldn’t even remember her traits.

Fast forward to May and I’ve decided to try my Thief in WvW. I looked around and found some builds that didn’t look half bad and jumped in using my current gear He’s what I started with:

Does that sound workable? I’m open to suggestions, but I’d really like to keep the Sword and I don’t have a lot of gold for re-gearing.

When did they fix that? The previous time I caught an enemy in our citadel, I saw him take out the TP guy. The NPC did not reset and we had not TP on our BL until the next match.

Is Healing Power worth it to help with water fields?

Most of those things are now blocked for use in WvW.

Is entering the enemy citadel legal? If not, what category do we use to report violators?

I’ve given up reporting/blocking the OMG huge amount of gold seller whispers I’ve been getting, so I just turned off whispers. The trouble is, I still get the audio. Any way to turn that off?

Because Meteorlogicus wouldn’t work well for a power build.

But seriously, I used to play a power phantasm build. I switched to conditions to try something new.

You’re not actually using Maintenance Oil, are you?

Exotic is no longer best-in-slot, that part is true. To be substandard though, a majority of other players would have to be in Ascended gear. Considering the price, I’m not sure we’re to that point yet.

First night on EB as War and no repairs!

I’m keeping my Mesmer for roaming, so i don’t need a new build that can do that.

I always liked hammer on Warrior. I guess I’ll try that first.

My favorite part of WvW is solo or small group action on my Memser. Sometimes though I join the zerg (usually to farm bags, WXP or achievements). Until now, I’ve always done it on my Mesmer because WXP was per character. I survive pretty well but am not sure I pull my own weight. Now that WXP is account wide, I’m thinking I need a second character for zerging.

So what do you guys think would be the best profession/build?

If you are going for condition damage stick with a condition damage sword. If, for example, you use a zerker sword and swap to it during combat you will lose damage on all the conditions you previously applied with your alternate weapons and are still ticking.

I switched to Power/Prec/Cond.

Just a wild guess but, to me it seems ANet wanted to make auto attacks immune from this ability and the thief change was just an unintended side effect that they’re trying to sell to us as intentional.

I’d say a phantasm build with MH Sword for both sets. The first OH would be Focus, and the second either Pistol or Sword.

If you’re not comfortable going all melee, Sword/Focus and GS.

Wow! It looks like I kicked up a mini hornet’s nest here.

I had a chance to try this yesterday for a little bit, using a zerker sword. I took in a couple duels, contested a couple capture points and spearheaded a couple pushes (keep in mind this was Friday afternoon). Survivability was not really an issue. I really liked what pistol brought to the table. The sword, however, felt kind okittenward. Don’t get me wrong, it has its usefulness. Blurred Frenzy is a great offensive block, and iLeap helps to confuse the enemy. It might be that I just need more practice with the new combination.

I’ve been gone for 2 months, and I don’t even remember what traits I had. /blush

I’m running zerker armor with beryl orbs, Valkyrie weapons (accuracy & perception sigils), 1 ascended Soldiers ring and 4 pieces of beryl jewelry.

Anyone got a decent S/D build?

I used to run Sc/T and Staff on my PU build. I’m now trying Sw/T and Sc/P. So what stats should I use on the Sword, stick with condition or go zerker?

Not doing too bad. I’m getting about 100 in a couple hours. I’ll have to try and get on some temple runs.

Halcyon, my ratio differs greatly from yours. I had:
2.4k Empyreal Fragments
2.6k Bloodstone Dust
0.5k Dragonite Ore

I have plenty of the Ascended mats for a set of armor except for Dragonite, of which I’m 1000 short. I’m a WvW/dungeon player mostly, so Dragonite is hard to come by. I’ve been told i need to farm world bosses. Any advice on the best way to do that? I know they are websites that list timers, but those often show hours long windows. Do you just hang around until the event spawns? That can’t be right.

For what (WvW, dungeons/fractals, world event farming)?

My luck was not so good on my first try. Spent 1gp and got 1 Dragonite. Sold everything else and made back just over 20sp.

The good news is that ascended armor offers a very small upgrade, so lacking it is not a disaster.

Unfortunately, I already leveled to 500, so I kind of feel compelled to see it thru.

Make the best of it, then. Sell your damask as you make it at the current hilarious price. Once the rich and impatient are geared, craft your own tiny upgrades next month

Now there’s an idea! I do have another Gift of Exploration burning a hole in my bank. I’m sure I can find something to spend the gold on.

From full exotic to full ascended is quite noticeable but if you have trinkets and a weapon then the armor makes vaery little difference.

I have a Legendary and three Ascended trinkets, so I’m kind of in the middle.

I was about to suggest this. If you buy a bunch of boxes and sell everything else you get, you should come very close to breaking even (there is some RNG in there though). Last time I did this I wound up making 30g over the cost of the boxes (ty mini).

Giant. The mini I got is very rare though. In general I come a little above or a little below what I spent, so it averaged out to being free dragonite/frags/charged crystals. I havn’t done it today though and the price on the sox etc. seems to have dropped a bit. Probably still average out if you get a dwayna back recipe which have gone up in price though (and are not that rare).

Thanks! It’s the Dragonite I’m after, so I’m OK with it costing me a little gold.

Is Spool of Silk Weaving Thread the only time-gated component for crafting Ascended Light armor?

The traits aren’t in the right spots cause the sites not up to date, but they should all be right.

My first alt was a D/D Ele. I got her to 80 and she farmed all her own dungeon gear. Since Jan/Feb though, she’s been in semi-retirement and I haven’t kept up with all the patch notes. When ANet announced the coming of account-bound WXP, I decided to bring my Ele out of retirement to use as a WvW alt. She’s done OK with the old build, but I’m sure there’s room for improvement. Here’s what I’m using now:

I generally use Tornado for the Stability.

I hear they had 100 blueprints, but I guess the cap stopped them before they got them all built.

Mantra of Concentration

Anyone had trouble getting iZerker to spawn since the last update? My friends mains GS in WvW and has been complaining the the phantasm almost never spawns. I don’t regularly use GS anymore so I couldn’t comment. Well, this morning we had a little faux pas in CoE 1, so I had to pull out my GS. The iZerker skill fired but most times I never got the phantasm.

I use MSI Afterburner (AFAIK, it’ll work on any PC for recording), and Windows Live Movie Maker for editing.

They’re not the best, but they’re free.

Epic fights for a Tuesday! Way beyond my ability to command…

I just realized I haven’t posted my own thoughts… my bad.

For the first year, I just played my PvE phantasm build (Sw/Sw & GS). I was on a tier 8 server, so blobs were things of myth and legend. For other zergs, my DPS was fine and survivability was excellent. All I offered the team though, was DPS and the occasional TW.

I am now running a PU build modified slightly to work better in larger fights.
-Feedback/Portal (or Veil, but that’s very rare)
-Blink
-Stability mantra
-Mass Invis
In non-blob fights, I think my DPS and survivability are just as good as before, but I can now offer more to the team.
I struggle in blobs. Mesmer survivability, at least for me, comes from mobility. Group tanking in a blob is a bad place for me to be. I’ve started trying to work around our blob, rather than being inside it.

Okay I just spent a bunch of time reading up on various WvW builds. It seems mesmer is fine with roaming type activity, I just need to find a build that works well and that I have enough skill to actually use.

I’m not sure my “tanky mesmer” really is going to be effective.

Right now looking at the Blackwater build, though it’s so different from how I’ve played mesmer that it would take some getting used to.

I think I want to focus on WvW. In sPVP it seems changing builds is trivially simple so it’s easier to experiment there. Happy for any further direction.. though mesmer’s reputation as being a confusing profession continues to hold true.

I use a build like Blackwater. It should work fine for you if you want to focus on WvW.
