On the whole, I’m still having fun. Some parts seem more like hard work than fun though, especially where trash mobs have been given godlike crowd control skills.
I’m still having trouble with the Mire Sea vista. Just can’t get up that tower, not because it’s difficult to get up there due to the tower layout but because of the ridiculous krait knockback spam and the fact that you usually die if knocked off the tower.

When you see the trolls runestone or the hunter ready for the boar, just call it out before you start it. That way everybody (well, most people) will be happy. If people want things in a particular order, well that’s just tough…this is a game where other people join in and do what they want when they want.
Have to say that the champions really do go down far too quickly though. They’re not scaling up properly for the number of people they’re facing. Even the cave troll goes down in two minutes. It really is getting a bit ridiculous now.

I remember the days of ‘the healer’. Fun times. You’d get the inevitable barrage of abuse when someone died because they ran out of range or round a corner.
Usual response was “Why are you abusing the only person in the group who can keep you alive?” They either left or went quiet.
As a healer, I always stuck with the main part of the group. If someone ran off to do their own thing, that was their lookout.

Mine did that too this morning. And after the freeze, the entire screen went black for half a second or so.

Well, they’re not getting a vote from me.
I still quite like GW2 but I don’t like facebook…at all.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Actually, this is very dependent on circumstances. I always try to rez people but it takes more than ‘a few seconds’ and in that time you’re very vulnerable and can very easily end up dead yourself. Sometimes it’s better to just kill the mobs, the downed person will most probably automatically rez when the mob they have targeted dies anyway.
Look at the champion cave troll in Queensdale. That will quite happily one-shot a lower level player. If you try to help them while the troll is nearby you’ll probably get the next rock in the face. I wait till it’s attention is diverted onto someone else but even then it can change its target in an instant with no warning at all.
I have nothing against rezzing people and do it when it’s safe but there’s no point ending up with both of us dead.

It’s too hot for trolls so I’ll answer it as if it’s a serious suggestion.
No thanks.

It’s soloable all the way through till you reach the end then you’re forced to find a team in an area that hardly anybody bothers to go to any more. If you do manage to get some people together, you find that someone else usually gets the glory for the defeat. Fantastic way to end the story…not. I just don’t bother with it any more because that end is just pointless and frustrating.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I think it is a bit too strict the way it’s set up. You can avoid getting blocked by modifying the message each time: add a waypoint or some other meaningl useful text or just change it around.
I’ve never been blocked but then I don’t stay in one place. I run around from place to place so when I put out any calls, they’re about different things.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
You could get to the level cap without ever leaving Queensdale (or any of the other racial starter areas) if you felt like it. You’d miss out on a lot of the game if you did that but it’s easy enough to do.
In fact, lots of people only go to the higher level areas once for the map completions then never go back…and with the incessant/overdone/annoying crowd control the trash mobs have in those areas, who can blame them…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Rather than ‘fixing’ it, how about giving us the ability to move UI elements around, like nearly every other game has done since the year dot…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I’ve had two keys drop from mobs since beta…
Be nice if we could chuck a stack of a few hundred chests into the forge and get a key! I’ve got to the stage I just trash chests now, don’t even bother with the market any more.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I agree about the massively overdone crowd control skills mobs get. Seems that in some areas all the trash mobs get crowd control and spam it incessantly. Give crowd control to bosses and such things, trash mobs/minions should NOT have crowd control skills. It’s not so much a challenge as incredibly annoying.
Auto-targetting is annoying as well. I don’t normally use it but in a game where you lose your target every few seconds due to incessant crowd control, it’s almost essential. Pity then that it typically chooses scenery half a mile away over the mob standing two feet away hitting you with a flamin great sword.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
It’s like this: the zerg runs from troll to bandit to wasp to boar to oak (they keep saying spider, but I’m not aware of a champion spider in Queensdale)
The spider is up on the hill behind the hunting lodge, just north of the Beetledun Waterworks. It’s quite close to the boar which is why it’s usually included in the run.

Problem is that as soon as you set foot outside the low level zones, you end up being spammed by ludicrous amounts of crowd control nonsense by mobs.
You hit them with a crowd control skill, they get immunity for a while., We don’t. We can be chain held/stunned/knocked up, down and all over the place by every trash mob we come across.
That’s fine for bosses. It’s nothing but ridiculous for trash mobs to get those sorts of powers. There’s a reason other games don’t do it.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
It’s not really feasible unless you have 100% reliable hardware/internet/etc. Unless defeat can ONLY be attributed to the players abilities/mistakes, the whole idea is going to cause more problems that it’s worth.
I suppose the game could pull you out of fights and make you invincible the moment it detects lag or a disconnection but that opens up an entirely different can of worms.
Nope, can’t say I like this idea much. GW2 would be deleted the very second I found out they’d implemented something like that and made it mandatory.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
It’s been that way since day 1. Mesmers have always had the cloud of butterfly’s. That looks just as ridiculous to me…just on a smaller scale…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Anytime you have camera-look and targeting on the same input, you will have conflicting behavior.
Glad to see we all agree on that point.
So the obvious move would be to fix the problem by not having both options on the same input…wouldn’t it?
…

So they’re going out of their way to make a broken mechanic even more broken. How about fixing the bugs rather than breaking things even more. Having two functions on the same key DOES NOT WORK. There’s an reason other games don’t do it. It’s stupid, irrational and frankly almost unbelievable.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I’m using 64-bit Windows 7 and have never had this issue. I alt-tab out and come back in again multiple times when I play the game. If it was something serious affecting the way the game was programmed, it would affect more people.
Just as a matter of interest, why are you double-clicking on the taskbar? Single clicks are all that’s necessary there, could that be causing problems?
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Why would anyone click target?
I haven’t seen the deselecting while farming, still uploading the video tho. I seen another video where someone was targeting NPC’s and somehow it would select the NPC while moving the camera. I have just checked this and it doesn’t happen with me.
I don’t understand how you’re avoiding this issue if you’re using the right mouse button to turn the camera. The moment you press that button, the cursor disappears, you have no idea where it’ll be when you let go, so there’s no way to consistently avoid reselection of a target as far as I can see. Unless, of course, you’re constantly swapping targets with the TAB key so you simply don’t notice that your target has changed when right clicking.
As for asking why some people are trying to click to select a target, maybe that’s the way they like to play. What does that have to do with this issue?

I not getting how destroying the sonic periscopes costs gold. Of course, if you get killed by the mobs, then you have repair costs, but 2g?
Travel costs I imagine. If you go from waypoint to waypoint those costs mount up very quickly.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I don’t understand why the mouse pointer has to disappear while turning, or why right click (to turn) also selects new targets, or why all the windows have the same colour/shade background and overlay each other so you inevitably close the wrong one.
Seems to me that the interface was designed by half a dozen different people, none of whom bothered to attend the team meetings, so they all went off and did their own thing.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
If you hold the right button down all the time I guess it’s not an issue. Not everyone does that, personally I’d find it too tiring on that poor finger to hold the button down constantly. I only use the right mouse button to turn the camera and I don’t want to be doing that all the time. During a fight, for instance, I release the right button to use my fingers for other things. The problem, then, is that when you want to turn again, you have to actually check where the (nearly invisible amongst all the effects) mouse cursor is or take a chance and hope it’s not currently over something.
All it needs is option to turn the right-click selection of targets off. I’m amazed that this seems to be so difficult to do. This is the only game I have ever come across where this is an issue and I’m, frankly, astonished that it got past quality control.

Queensdale has everything you need, plus you can get around without the ridiculous amount of CC you get in some other zones. Devs love crowd control on mobs, every player I’ve ever come across, on the other hand, hates it.
Plus, of course, there are LOTS of events. There’s just plenty to do all wrapped up in one nice little zone.,

But yes, great move to reduce/remove the knockback. Many times I found half destroyed scopes with a full compliment of Moltens around it because people had given up.
One of the problems with these things is that if someone left the molten mobs undefeated and you came along and got rid of them, they’d respawn again within seconds. It obviously wasn’t taking account of the fact that you’d just spent the last ten minutes taking one lot down…
It is annoying to have to clean up other people’s mess but 10 minutes? O_o
I hope you haven’t been trying to fight them next to the scope …
Slight exaggeration for effect
As far as fighting them next to the scope, I’ve found that any attempt to get out of the scope’s range just resets the mobs anyway.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Who knows. I never post lvl 80 things unless they’re rares anyway. There’s not much point. Who’s going to buy a blue or green item at lvl 80?

For short term trades, try to identify something that has a reasonable profit margin before too many other people swamp it. You probably won’t get more than one or two bites at it before any meaningful profit is wiped out by the masses so you have to keep looking for new things. There;s always a risk of getting caught and making a loss so don’t put all your eggs in one basket and don’t risk everything you have at once.
Longer term, you’re talking more about investing which is, in my opinion, even more risky but the same thing applies…just over a long time scale.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
They’re probably hoping the issue will go away if they ignore it :p

My suggestion would be ‘transparent’. There’s too much clutter on the maps already…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Problem is that people standing around doing nothing do have an effect. If the game didn’t take account of the number of people in an area it’d be different but if you’re adding to the attacking mob size/level and making things more difficult for the other people around then you deserve to get attacked by any passing mobs.
How difficult is it to just log out to character selection anyway, only takes a second.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
That’s odd. Not had that problem on my thief. Not accidentally damaging destructible objects with your fancy bouncing arrows are you? Scratch a bit of the devs paintwork half a mile away and they keep you in combat as punishment…well, not quite but the scenery thing is all I can imagine causing it.

LOL Well, she looks sort of cute with her ponytails and all but has a downturned mouth that I thought would look better on a thief…

My thief, despite being a ‘cute’ (ugh) human has never been ‘hit on’. Maybe it’s her grumpy looks or those two knives as long as her thighs.
I prefer norn females though, at least they look like adults, the human females look like they should still be at school…

Just remember that the more you ‘invest’ on any single item, the bigger the risk. There’s a reason most people spread their money around…diversification reduces the risk of losing everything in one fell swoop…

In addition to all the above points, remember there’s still a lot of balancing to do. GW2 is relatively new, WoW has been out for a long time .
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
An option to stop the right-click-selection of objects.
An option to get rid of that multi-function select/talk_to_npc/loot key that devs love so much. It’s annoying and causes more problems than it’s worth.
An option to stop the right-click-selection of objects.
Fixed auto-targetting so it prioritises angry mobs two feet away rather than the scenery on the other side of the map.
An option to stop the right-click-selection of objects.
Oh yes, did I mention an option to stop the right-click-selection of objects? Well, just in case, I’d like an option to stop the right-click-selection of objects.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
This would be a useful feature. My thief got hit twice in quick succession by the champion giant boar in Queensdale yesterday because I simply couldn’t see it and didn’t know when to dodge. Two mesmers cast bubbles over the thing and they completely wiped out any vision of the beast. Didn’t affect it in the slightest, of course, just made life difficult for the rest of us for a few seconds.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
They’re not hard to take down once you can start damaging them, I just find it highly annoying that it’s so difficult to approach them….especially considering the only payoff is a few achievement points.
You get 100 karma for each audio log you hand in so, if you need the karma, they can be useful for that.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
You even have problems destroying them? you can move around them WAY faster than they can turn around, so just stay at their backs
I’ve never managed that. They do a 180 in the blink of an eye and if I’m not at maximum range I don’t even get enough time to dodge. Maybe there’s some latency issues but they certainly are not that easy for everyone.
Worse ones, by far, are in Iron Marches though. You get levelled down to 51 in a lvl 56 area and the kittenhings spawn lvl 56 mobs as well. It’s ridiculous.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I reached the Iron Marches on my lvl 75 Ranger this morning. I got levelled down to 51 in an area swarming with lvl 56 mobs. Then a nearby periscope added it’s motley crew of lvl 56 molten nonsense mobs to the mix so I just gave up.
Not been there before so I don’t know if I was just unlucky or if it’s always been like that. Either way, the idea of scaling players down only really works when it’s done properly…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
What we actually need are fewer confirmation requirements on mundane bits and more confirmations on important game changing things…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I’ve come to the conclusion that your reading comprehension skills are somewhat lacking.
It wasn’t a standard veteran molten brawler. It was a veteran gunner and it was EIGHT LEVELS HIGHER THAN THE MAX LEVEL FOR THE AREA. What part of that simple statement are you having trouble understanding? Are you seriously suggesting that you can defeat a +8 veteran that can do that much damage? I don’t believe you.
And it’s never a good idea to go around calling people whiners. It just makes you look childish.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Guess your mule is no longer a mule then…
There are lots of strange quirks with the interface. I’m sure different teams were involved with different parts of it. There’s just no consistency. Some completely innocuous changes need confirmation while other changes with far-reaching effects that can completely wreck the game for people, don’t.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
There is no “level 16 gold mob”. If it was even a real single silver unit, we would lose. Please check properly. Anyways i already posted here the strategy to beat them with a low level. You guys just want to rage.
You want to check your facts matey. My level 80 guardian fully kitted out with exotic gear came across some of these. First hit was blocked by Aegis as you’d expect, second hit was an instant defeat. She had been levelled down to 8 in a level 8 area, the mobs were level 16, one of them a vet. No level 8 can take a hit from a lvl 16 veteran.
The fact that you, personally, haven’t come across these doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Some of us have seen them and been flattened by them.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
It’s quantity over quality. Nose to the grinding wheel stuff…
Ground out the 150 sound cannons for the montly yet?
Seems that this has become the games’ normal mode of play. But with a lvl 80 and lvl 80 exotic gear it is soloable.
Working on it
Got till the end of the month so there’s no rush. It’s either that or the jumping puzzles and I find them even more annoying than the periscopes!
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
About time we had some word on this. Is it a bug or is it working as intended?
I really hope it wasn’t designed like this. There’s a reason operating systems (and machinery!) don’t use the same controls for multiple purposes – it simply doesn’t work!
