Oh, almost forgot. There’s an entire sticky thread dedicated to providing tips for new players: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players

Here’s something interesting for new players. You’re probably past this point already but someone really new without a wallet full of cash might find it useful.
When you finish the tutorial, you come into the world with exactly the amount of copper coins needed to buy one each of the three gathering tools. Get them from a nearby vendor/merchant and gather from every node you come across, they’ll more than pay for themselves in no time.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
You could try transferring them via the guild bank. Apart form that, nope, it’s just an annoying silly system that does nothing to get rid of spammers and such but makes life annoying for ‘legitimate’ players.

No idea what the ‘gold’ is. The ‘black’ looks like midnight blue but the brightness on that image has been turned way up which makes it really difficult to tell.

Keep undercutting everything, prices have gotten way out of control, make those speculators lose $$$$$$$$$$$!
Great idea! People will just buy your cheap item and repost it at a higher price. If you want to hinder people’s ability to increase their gold reserves using the TP you’re going to have to do a lot better than that!

That’s why there are so many ‘unnamed’ pets around. People can’t be bothered to rename them when the name gets wiped the moment you change to a different pet. It’s annoying, not to mention confusing, when you’re running around trying to find new pets and every ‘juvenile’ animal you come across is someone’s unnamed pet.

Agreed. This endless doubleclick nonsense is getting really annoying.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
We really really really need a ‘use all’ option for stacks. This doubleclick…doubleclick…doubleclick till your finger falls off nonsense is getting very old very fast.

I really don’t understand why such common crafting materials have to be account bound. It’s like those stupid apples…why on earth are they account bound?

Actually if you end up in melee range with the Ranger you should try to disengage ASAP.
Otherwise you’re dead pretty quickly.
That may be true in PvP, I wouldn’t know since I don’t do it. But I’ve not seen that happen with my ranger in PvE. I start off ranged then when a mob gets close, rather than bat it away or run away myself, I just swap to sword/dagger and engage it. I’ve had no problems doing that, in fact I think things go down faster with melee than ranged.

Sounds a bit glib, but the ‘best’ class is the one that you enjoy playing. You’re the one who’s going to have to live with it, after all.
Personally, I quite like my ranger but just can’t play an elementalist for more than a few minutes without wanting to chuck my mouse out of the window.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Rezzing someone who’s downed only takes a few seconds and I always pause to rez them…unless there’s an angry mob beating on me.
If the player is actually dead, and you still have the “in-combat” flag set, it takes absolutely ages to rez them. It’s just not worth it during a fight.

I’d post a picture of my sylvari but I’ve never been able to get the GW2 forum to display any of my images…here’s a link to my photobucket album, just a bunch of screenshots of my sylvari necromancer, mostly from day 1: http://s1203.photobucket.com/user/korat102/library/Guild%20Wars%202%20Screenshots

Yeah, something’s a bit screwy with the TP at the moment. At least you can just repost the extra items you bought if you don’t want them for an alt…

Whenever I come across something that makes me want to chuck my monitor out of the window, I just remind myself that they’ve created a far better game than I could have done…and it’s free to play!

I logged out again, cleared the cache, logged back in and it seems to be working again. Don’t know if it was anything to do with the cache but probably worth a try if you’re still having problems.

I have issues with it as well, suddenly tells me I need to upgrade to a full account and has all options greyed out.
.
Some time later…clearing the cache seemed to fix it…or maybe it was coincidence…who can tell!

Trying to access the TP on Desolation, all options are greyed out and it tells me I need to upgrade to a full account (???)
Tried relogging and tried other characters, same issue.

Would be nice if there was a way to get the notification to show the location on a map. I have no idea where half of the places described are and by the time I’ve found them online then gone to some nearby waypoint (if I’m lucky enough to have found one in that area), it’s all over.

Ok, I know you said one thing but I have two things bugging me at the moment…
More control over the UI. Things are placed on the screen where ANet devs want them, that’s rarely where I am used to having them and there’s no way to move them around, unlike virtually every other current MMO.
Players should have some resistance or even immunity to crowd control for a while after being affected by such skills. Chain stuns/knockbacks/knockups/knockdowns/etc. are NOT fun by any stretch of the imagination and there’s a reason no other MMO I have ever played allows this to happen.

Funny thing, the Queen Jennah mini. I left it in my inventory since it said double click it to activate. First time I zoned, it vanished from the inventory. Not that I’m going to miss it, but even so…

Worth remembering that the market is global. At any one time there could be many thousands of people trading. Being over or under cut in some way within a minute is hardly going to be a unusual occurrence.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Nope. The screen’s cluttered enough already with floating text (no bodies due to culling) and overdone sparkly effects that hide the cursor and the mobs so you can’t tell when you’re about to get hit by a missile, etc.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
It’s an anti-kiting mechanism.
It may just be my perception but it does seem to me that there’s something strange about the way its implemented in GW2. Instead of the mob checking regularly, it seems to wait till you’ve nearly defeated it before deciding it can’t be bothered to die just yet.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
Or ‘C’ scoots away with the gold AND the item. It’s risky. Not so bad if you both know the middle person I suppose. Your risk though, can’t see Anet taking any interest if anyone did get scammed.

I remember seeing a qoute by Ghostcrawler (one of WoW’s lead devs) when asked what was the biggest suprise he has had in developing MMOs.
He said that what suprised him is players choose efficency over fun.
Maybe that’s because most developers idea of what constitutes fun is somewhat different to most players. I can’t speak for other players, of course, but I find nothing remotely wonderful about being CC’d to death, having to fight the same mobs over and over due to insane respawn rates, being one-shotted by massive bags of hitpoints that need a thousand hits to take down, etc.

IIRC, you can only grab one off each zone
There are two in each zone but the Queensdale towers seem to be broken. Do one of them and you cannot then do the other.

…any solution?
Yes, don’t overprice your item.

And…it would be nice to actually be able to see the mouse pointer at all. It vanishes into all the flying pixels and fancy effects and disappears completely when you use the mouse to turn.

I’ve had nothing but the occasional rare and a bunch of green things in the last few days from champions. As far as I’m able to tell, exotic items have been removed from the drop table…

Nope. It’s a perfectly valid word.

I haven’t even ‘spoken’ to the vendor for ages. Too many characters and not enough laurels for them all.

The spider spawns on the hill between Beetledun Waterworks and the hunting Lodge. It’s a good one to check on when you’ve checked for the boar (speak to Carthage in the lodge for that one).

It’s only a few pixels at the edge, I don’t even notice it unless someone happens to mention it. Wouldn’t hurt to be able to turn it off though…

I foresee an imminent explosion in the number of single-person guilds in GW2…
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I had that today on my engineer. I pushed it back with air blast then used flame blast to try to catch it as it ran back at me. It missed completely because the mob rubberbanded right through the napalm ball without getting hit.

I’ve used it a few times, accidentally, then had to sort out the mess it made.

For me, GW2 has always had the longest ‘load screen’ for any game I’ve ever come across. Every map takes ages, Divinity’s Reach takes takes twice as long as the others for some reason. I originally put it down to having everything in one humongous data file but that’s just a guess. I don’t really know…

Do something productive?
Read a book?
Write a book! Or at least make a start. Doesn’t all have to be done at once. Some people have taken years to complete their masterpiece!

NPC bosses are made ‘challenging’ by giving them insane amounts of health. They still go down fast.
NPC trash mobs are made ‘challenging’ by giving them ridiculous amounts of crowd control. They are just annoying.
In my opinion, mobs should be made more challenging by improving their AI. At present, higher level areas are just frustrating to travel through. That’s not fun…for me anyway. I don’t mind a fight but does it have to be every five feet and always the same thing: pushed back, pulled forward, knocked up or down, put to sleep or stunned. It gets old, fast.
There’s a norn npc who has the unenviable task of picking up rabbit food and gets knocked down by the rabbits constantly. She says “I tire of this.” Well, that’s just how I feel when meeting trash mobs that have so many crowd control skills that there’s no way to avoid the effects…

I’m not a fan of underwater combat.
You have poor manoeuvrability, all your powers change but you have to be under water to get it set up (and you’d better hope you remembered to get it all set up before meeting that boss). You can’t tell where the surface is so you can inadvertently poke your head up out of the water then you lose ALL your skills. Things under water seem to aggro at enormous distances and seem to be telepathically linked to each other. Damage output under water varies considerably depending on what class you’re playing…more so than it does for ground combat. Mobs move into melee range instantaneously and you just can’t get away from them.
I go under water only when I absolutely have to…

Keep undercutting people and maybe the prices will become reasonable.
Alternatively, keep undercutting people and the supply will dry up as it’ll no longer be worthwhile for the seller. Prices are high because people are willing to pay that price. if people don’t buy at a high price, it’ll drop, naturally.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
What difference does it make? There are lots of people playing the game. Some lucky person will snap up the cheap one. There’ll still be plenty of customers around for the others.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
i can’t blink across gaps.
how is that a teleport?
Really wish things like Blink and Infiltrator’s Arrow worked over gaps like Engi’s jump shot. I like the temp tp gun, but with no reticle it can often be more of a hindrance :P
Hmm, have to try that jump shot next time. I tried the rocket boots on a jump that I was stuck on. got about halfway across then bounced backwards off what seemed like a temporary invisible wall. Not saying it was but it is getting annoying that you will jump normally and fall to your death repeatedly due to the stupid camera instead of using the tools at your disposal and your ingenuity.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
One thing worth bearing in mind is that pets seem to lose their name when you ‘reslot’ them. Because of that, a lot of people simply no longer bother renaming their pets. So…if you see a Juvenile animal that you can’t tame, it’s probably someone else’s un-named pet.
lunawisp was my peacebringer on City of Heroes – she lives on in memory as my gaming id.
I have the same problem. I’ve spoken to every one of those merchants and not a single one has counted for the achievement. I’m on the verge of just giving up on the whole thing.

Ah yes. The old socialist argument. I can’t wok out how it’s done therefore I want a law passed to make it illegal for everyone else.

Make the market unplayable account bind any item bought on the mp this forces people only to buy what the plan on useing.
