Also, it might help to check out your options and to make sure you have chosen “show player ennemies” instead of “show ennemies”, something along those lines.

If you want to understand mesmer, you should probably create one for a bit.

This is the way. Find 3 popular builds, with youtube guides, and go through the construction, testing of the skill rotation, and caveats.

With Mesmers, there are about 3 good general rules:

1. Mark the mesmer with a target marker, when they go invis, it goes away, this is a good indicator of which is which. Illusions don’t dodge, run backwards/sidewars, and generally don’t get Chaos Shield (the purple bubble).

2. Dodge INTO running illusions if they are chasing you. When they pop on top of you, you are effectively negating their damage.

3. Watch for the confusion condition. DO NOT SPAM SKILLS WITH CONFUSION. Cleanse first if possible, or prepare to wait it out.

[WvW/PvE] + Condition Duration Foods

in Profession Balance

Posted by: lunyboy.8672

lunyboy.8672

Just fleshing out a specific example of how it can have an impact on damage abilities, since that’s potentially 2k more damage from food. Of course, -40% food counters this, but the problem in my opinion is that it forces people into this food. +1000% condi duration food being canceled by -1000% condi duration food doesn’t make 1000% a balanced number. Anyone who doesn’t run +40% is going to have a REALLY hard time against a class that has -40%. Anyone who doesn’t run -40% is going to have a POTENTIALLY REALLY hard time against a class that runs it.

That’s no good, imo. I’d love to see this food get neutered. I also think that the bigger problem is in the utility conditions like Immob/Chill/Weakness and them being too long/too short depending on combinations of food used, but damage produces numbers so people look at that first.

While I understand your point, you have to realize that the ONLY reason this became meta was due to the Melandru/LPS combo with traits that reduced many conditions -65% and some as much as -99%. This effectively rendered several condition builds completely useless, or worse, negated the need for condition clearing, allowing for more offensive direct damage traits and skills.

After breaking down one of these Mel/LPS Warrior builds, I did the calculations that allowed me to return to my previous level of conditions on my Engineer, with approximately +90% condition duration using foods, runes, sigils, and traits.

This build, like all condition builds, can be countered pretty easily by cleansing, especially in team fights, and it is basically the only damage I can do. It is effective because of how I play it, using chills, immob, blinds, and confusion to slow or prevent actions while punishing players or act or move. In 1-v-1s I still lose to backstab thieves, stun warriors, PU mesmers, condi warriors, condi bomb necros, etc. because with the focus on condition duration, I have no condition reduction, and poor cleansing.

Consider that for a second, every person running with +condition duration food (or anything else) isn’t running condition reduction food, at the very least.

Sigils: Ele and Engineer punished?

in Profession Balance

Just another nerf to ele that is already in really bad shape with no help coming in the next patch. Oh sucks for engis to but they are in a pretty good spot balance wise.

Not really, one of the lowest output damage ratings in PvE, and mostly condi-bunker only in PvP.

It seems like a lot of these decisions were made by people who understand that some professions will benefit more, and even acknowledge that, but no one looked at the whole package and said “wait, why are we sticking it to Eles and Engies disproportionately?”

Full Zerker question

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: lunyboy.8672

lunyboy.8672

Actually before I post I was wondering how to close a topic for future reference.

If I may add something, I don’t get angry with people that are perfectionist or elitist or whatever cuase I know that getting into a good group for fotm 40+ you want solid players that know what there doing and do it well. That sometimes demand things of players like telling guards to bring wall or SoA there not… or asking warriors to equip banners when there not…

The whole purpose of this post was to ask if having soldier runes matters and I agree it does if your in a good group so I went out and got myself a full set of zerker armor and put on ruby orbs… easy as pie with all those dungeon tokens.

90% of the time I run fotm I run with my knights gear with soldier runes and zerker accessories (15/15/0/20/20) build beucase more often then not the fights are extended and ranged no matter what I say so then I have to adapt. BUT if I were to get in a party that said full zerker and I can see they know what there doing then I’ll swap ASAP.

Basically I would rather have 4 elitist in my party over non. They know what there doing, you know its going to be a good run.

Thanks for the replies

No.

You don’t want a party of elitists. You want a party of good players who can communicate, work well together and know their jobs in that particular instance.

This is how you tell the difference:

Good players will say hello, ask questions about techniques, give feedback on issues, try to help solve problems and generally not be jerks.

Elitists may or MAY NOT be good players, but think that FULL zerk gear, the right runes, weapons, and class/skills entitle them to complain about everything everyone else is doing without actually contributing to the success of a dungeon path.

There is a middle ground between full clerics pugs and the “speed run elite,” where people aren’t kicked for using reasonable runes. Try to find that space, and remember, everyone can have an off day, so give people a break if they are civil and have at least attempted to be in the “meta” with their stuff.

Pug Roulette: Week One

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: lunyboy.8672

lunyboy.8672

@ Dub: I was in TS w/ my friend. The pugs weren’t in TS with us, so I had to type. That’s always the downside of pug’ing – no voice coms.

We never kicked anyone who was using a good build, unless you’re referring to that ele….. and after all those fails, he definitely deserved it. I thought we gave him more than enough chances.

I’m wondering why you’d say s/d or s/f sucks in AC. You stack literally every single boss, most of them against a wall. Therefore, s/f is optimal; it allows you to stack more might due to more blasts, then use FGS if the boss is against a wall (Spider, Kholer) and LH if if he isn’t against one (last bosses in p1 and p2). You aren’t killing that many adds in AC, so you don’t need the greater AoE of dagger MH or staff, and you’re using Ice Bow on burrows.

Only thing that me and my friend did wrong was letting the pug open; each of us just assumed the other had opened. lol

Nothing wrong about writing in party chat. As you made it sound, from my point of view the kick wasn’t justified. He didn’t get unfriendly, kindly explained why he used #4 on the same burrow as you and even conjured one without being asked to. Just attacking with LH is far from optimal, but better than you could expect from most pugs. Since he participated in the dungeon to that certain point and didn’t really slow down your group, I do not see the kick justified.

All bosses die within 3 seconds in a 3+ men group. Why would you stack might, wasting more time than needed? If going AC, you should have persisting flames and 25 in air, using Burning Retreat, conjuring FGS and then using rush once, kills pretty much any enemy without losing time stacking might/doing whatever else. Aswell as Meteor Shower and Frozen Ground are probably the strongest skills an elementalist can bring, aside of conjures.

Anyway, back to topic.
I like your fail, Cynz and it would have had high chances to be my choice of the week, if I didn’t already read it in the “funniest player fails thread”.

Far be it from me to disagree, but I have more luck with s/d, Arcane Blast, and the new heal for stacking might with pugs. I know everyone loves s/f, but I can’t dig on it yet, and the air/dagger 4 allows me to be the first at bosses like the Howling king, so I can knock him down and start the might rotation before someone drops an ice field or dark field under him (both are useful, but not as much as 18 stacks of might and a minute of fury).

I do like x/f in fights with a lot of projectiles or where the invul is life-saving, like Lupi, but I typically don’t end up in organized pugs where the longer fire field is useful for others. I did check out the new meta builds by DEKeyz, and I am looking at the traits for changing over, but I am not quite there yet.

Also, staff in ac… I don’t get. I understand the build and the higher DPS by the numbers, but if the only might you can count on is your own, it is better IMHO to be able to generate it faster and more consistently.

My english is not perfect, i’m spanish, sorry about typos.

Its not that its too hard. Its that noone wants to sit through a heavily timegated dungeon with stupid puzzle sections and unskippable cutscenes.

I completely disagree with you.

Today i will run TA Aether for the 20th consecutive day leading a PUG. That will make my 32th run and only 1 time we did not finished it because the instance leader disconnected and it kicked us out.
That means that i spent 3 hours or more, daily, doing that run (some days even twice, like yesterday) and i’m in the perfect position to give you some feedback.

… words …

The problem about leavers and people that doesn’t want to repeat that is and will always be the same: Impatient people with bad attitude and selfish reasons to go into a dungeon. TA Aether encourages teamwork and patiencie, if they can’t deal with that then it’s good for me when they leave.

Have a good day. I’ll have a report with more data from this dungeon by january

You are the type of pug I enjoy the most, there to work out the problems, find solutions, and not blame others. I run this path when I have time because it’s fun, and as much of a challenge as it is in some groups, the feeling of accomplishment is proportional.

Cheers.

smoke field + blast finisher

The combo field wasn’t what was nerfed about the “perma-stealth” thief, it was the initiative regen from skills that grant stealth allowing for the dagger/pistol shenanigans, which are still capped at 15 seconds, IIRC.

Nothing about this particular bug has anything to do with that nerf, as each blast finisher should grant an additional 3 seconds of stealth, as long as they are procced on the smoke field and nothing is over/under-writing it.

Ergo Bug. Pza, I will try to recreate this later and report my results if I can.

Correction: It was very profitable up until the patch hit on Tuesday. And yes, I more than doubled my money. Limited myself to starting with 300g on Monday night and left with 2k a few minutes after the patch hit on Tuesday.

And just to stay on topic:
I’m not buying a single silk scrap for my ascended armors because there’s no point. It’s against the grain of Anet’s plan of ascended items. Why should I buy silk when I’m time gated? I get almost enough everyday to do the silk processing. Unlike some it seems, I’m not in a fever-pitched rush and raging on the forums because I need a few extra stats IMMEDIATELY, even though I do 40-50 FoTMs every day.

A group and I actually used this strategy for the last boss in AC P3, trying to interrupt when it used the ROCKS FALL DOWN EVERYWHERE move (since NPC is unreliable at times).
Obviously nowadays, most people just stack under the pillar and easily kill the boss but before that strategy was prevalent and after the boss could actually get interrupted (I think there was a bug when AC was first revamped), we tried to kill the boss by getting rid of its defiance stacks and interrupting it when it used the falling rocks move (since its other moves are easy to deal with).
Coordination is needed but it was pretty cool. But stacking is easier

Obviously most bosses you can have everyone dpsing it down so having 1+ people trying to get rid of defiance stacks lowers their dps (usually) so it’s not “optimal” but I could still see it working for a lot of bosses. But like people have said above, it’s the “coordination” that could be the biggest problem.

That’s pretty neat. When did you trigger the interrupt? When he starts with the aerobic twists?

Ascended Armor

in A Very Merry Wintersday

Posted by: lunyboy.8672

lunyboy.8672

Couple quick thoughts, IMHO.

1. I don’t think this is the end of the grind. I look forward to ascended level food, runes, sigils, different paths for ascended jewelry/trinkets/backpieces, etc. and who really knows what else.

2. This ascended armor is coming out next week, so the prices of all kinds of things are going quite insane, and economic instability will be the norm through Christmas. We haven’t recovered from the instability of ascended weapons yet, so this will just be churning the pot a bit more.

3. Over time, 3 things will happen; first, with Christmas, people will buy the game, and level toons, realize you can make a lot of money with harvesting lower level mats and salvaging, helping stabilize the market in the short term. Next, the early adopters who NEED to have ascended crafting up to 500 and all ascended gear will acquire it, slowing the pressure on the market prices. And within 4 months, grinding adjustments will stabilize prices even more, albeit with a handsome bit of inflation thrown in, to keep those bodies moving.

4. Gem prices are going to be hilarious between this and Christmas. If I were a gambling man….

5. There is some “gating” of content based on gear in the fractal progression, however, 45 AR was possible before the ascended weapon patch, and definitely before the Fractured patch, and now you can get to 55 with a healthy bit of grind, and even to 70AR if you really, really want. Ascended armor will just make this easier over time.

These ascended items give people a chance to work toward something, to invest, to look at the game as a whole and decide some long term goals and set some short-to-mid-term rituals to help them get there. The point isn’t to GET IT ALL NAO! It’s to encourage people to come back and meet their goals over time, while enjoying the content as they like.

Anet bends over backwards to make sure that everyone who plays casually gets a chance to experience as much of the content as they like, and has been trying to ensure more hardcore players are met with challenges, whether that’s mistlock instabilities or gear upgrades, or new places to do mass PvP. Ascended crafting is just another one of those, and I welcome the opportunity to make a LOT of gold off those guys.

As a result, players only do the new content enough to get their achievements, then never go back.

Could not agree more.

(You can see this issue in the Tower of Nightmares too. It was built for zerg content, but once the zerg moves on, it’s excessively difficult for smaller groups or solo players to do, and so the place is largely abandoned.) They need to make future content easier, not harder, and more accessible again for the wider player base.

I hope they don’t make future content easier, but keep it in line with the rest of the game. People stopped coming to the tower for several reasons, one of them was DEFINITELY scaling, but this was an issue with the Halloween zerg content as well, and it isn’t just one thing, otherwise people would have given up on Scarlet farming on the first day.

People keep showing up for dragons, golems, and other world events because they are on timers and give good rewards, they clear temples with as few as 4 people regularly for 30 dragonite, and even spool up to ad hoc events like the Champ Trains simply by asking in map. Each of these has things that people like and don’t like, but they are still accessible.

The issues with the nightmare tower are an amalgamation of factors, all of which are circumvented in these other events (even the improvised ones) to one degree or another, but the worse part of the tower is simply that it is frustrating and boring simultaneously.

The TA Aether path doesn’t seem frustrating or boring to me, it is just long, and can drag a bit, and not just because of cut-scenes that can’t be skipped, but also the fact you have to clear most of the mobs, 2 puzzles that punish any lack of coordination, boss mechanics that are less friendly than most dungeons, etc. But it’s not frustrating once you beat it a few times, and it’s never boring for me at least.

It doesn’t make it less fun for me, but it is less rewarding than the same amount of time in Arah, or CoE, or higher level fractals at this point.

Basically it’s been established that mesmer is the best class for dueling (clones, invis) and blackwater is the best build of mesmer. Combined with the current but debatable acknowledgement that conditions are (if only slightly) over powered make blackwater mesmer the most hated class-build in the game in it’s current state (for dueling).

In large scale fights they are almost useless though. Mainly used for null field, veil and (if it’s your thing [I love them] and have a small group or really organized team) portals. Although any mesmer can have those utilities so the build matters little.

Mass invis and veils are exceptionally useful for small team combat and multi-mesmer/mes+thief teams to increase the amount of stealth available. It’s a little OP in some situations, and with recent build options, it can get very annoying.

It is easy to see which of the toons is the real mesmer, but the limitations of the targeting system make it difficult to select them while in a live combat situation.

Losing the mouse pointer, having part of the battlefield obscured by particle effects, right-click targeting issues (still-yes I know about the setting), and the Black Water mesmer build (quite a bit of stealth) make it that much more difficult to target and maintain said target on your opponent, and even more so when fighting multiple BW mesmers that look similar, which is incredibly annoying and effective.

I think the charged crystals may become non-account bound at some point, but will still be time-gated, much like the ascended mats, encouraging people to refine them and then sell them if they like.

I don’t see where Celestial is so much better than any other stat combination to the degree that it is so limited in its creation. Kind of unnecessarily expensive and punative, or that is my impression.

The timegated ascended mats also are account bound, only the ascended crafting ingredients that you make out of them, are sellable, so your comparison is a little bit flawed.
For example:

Lum of Mithrillium is time gated and not sellable, but you can craft deldrimor steel ingots with them, which are sellable.

So I dont think that Charged Quartz will be sellable directly.

Maybe they make Celestial Inscriptions/Insignias or Exquisite Quartz Jewels tradeable, though.

Quite correct. And I certainly hope so.

Which is silly, since you can prioritize people from your own server for parties, nor should it be so important in most pve instances. But for Thieves (and Eles >.<) that 1000hp is somewhat significant.

Instances probably shouldn’t be subject to those buffs anyway, especially fractals, since it is by definition, outside of normal “realms.”

Ran 30 fractals last night with myself and another guildie on Engineer. Perhaps you just need a fresh build or a fresh perspective, one thing you have to remember is you can swap skills for different content.

Engineer is challenging and interesting to play, and while it may not be the top of the list for “useful” or high-DPS, is it really fun to see what it (and you) are capable of in certain encounters.

I think the time gating of quartz and charged quartz, as well the different crafting model of celestial gear in which you need a separate recipe for the inscription/insignia as well as for the weapon/armor piece was just introduced as testing phase for ascended crafting.

Rune of Resistance

in Fractured

Posted by: lunyboy.8672

lunyboy.8672

…Actually if Rune of the Guardian didn’t work for thieves, then it would be 7 out of 8 (since someone pointed out a suitably round-about way an Necromancer can block once in a blue moon).

But thieves can block… underwater. Nine-tailed strike .

But still, the real question is if you’re concerned about Engineer competitiveness and involvement, why are you wasting 1s & 0s over a bit of FLUFF like the final set bonus on an obscure rune you may never even see, when there are so many other issues to take up torches and pitchforks over?

You make the assumption that we haven’t taken up pitchforks and torches on more serious matters. The reason why we are in this forum about this matter, is because it is an issue related to this update. Check out the Eng forums. By itself this rune is not that big an issue, but taken along with everything else, it feels like one more middle finger to the profession. Imagine how you might feel if your favorite professions is repeatedly excluded by virtue of its nature.

When I play guardian, I feel like ANet’s favorite child.

Rune of Resistance

in Fractured

Posted by: lunyboy.8672

lunyboy.8672

Clearly my comment has caused some confusion and offense, which was not my intent. For that, I offer my apology and a more literal version of what I mean to say:

Every profession has aspects that make it different than the others. Sometimes those aspects can exclude a player from taking full advantage of certain bonuses from equipment. But that is not the reason those choices exist. The implementation of a signet-related rune is not an oversight, nor is it meant as a deliberate exclusion of the engineer profession. It is meant to be a new, interesting choice for players that want to use to signets and want to play professions that have them.

Let me translate what this seems like to Engineer Mains:

There is a new reward for high-level fractals, it can be used by all professions but 1.

This is either an intentional exclusion, because Engineers represent such a small segment of the player population.

Or worse, they simply forgot about Engineer mains.

Get your act together, and stop neglecting this profession.

Target Rune of the Engineer to be Kit Specific, instead of bundles in general, and make it more akin to Rune of the Scholar (+crit damage & +pwr) with the 6th bonus to be +10% damage while using a kit, and it will ALMOST make up for the lack of ascended weapon damage when engies are in the aforementioned kits.

And seriously, comparing that crappy rune to end game content rewards with a SNIDE comment in a serious complaint thread?

Very unprofessional.

I agree with Obsdyth . Those zerkers are ruining the party, they could heal with a balanced cleric build but they are so selfish and think only about dmg . Obsdyth , dont listen to what those elitists say , make a ranger and suport your party with the brown bear for diffuclt bosses and use a mix of dire set too help with conditions and a cleric accessories to support with heals . Berserker is extremly bad , no heals and boom party wipes . If I was you I would just kick them immediatly , they will slow down the party with a selfish bersernoob build.

Go on…

Being rude and kicking pugs have nothing to with the kind of elitist i am/we are.
The only kind of persons i screw up are kittens, as there sadly are plenty on the internet.

I wasn’t referring to you, specifically, Dub.

We don’t all play the way you (generally) want, therefore, we are “bads” or at the very least, mediocre… from your (the higher-level players) perspective.

What’s hilarious is all the people who “appreciate” your (dungeon elitists) help, guides and snarky comments would get kicked in less than 10 seconds from your runs without even a comment. So while I glean what I can from what you say in the forums, I can’t say having this group of people harass anyone who posts on this forum and isn’t on their level is a positive thing for the game overall.

Besides, it’s just a matter of time before the high-level players move on and another group will spring up with new meta (Cleric’s is baus, yo) and get bored with how good THEY are at the game.

It’s the circle of life…

So, Gossamer Scraps...

in Crafting

lunyboy.8672

Yes, gossamer is overpriced. Remember it used to be one silver before the ascended armor announcements. No one needed gossamer then, and no one needs it now still. When the price won’t climb enough after heavy manipulation on the first night, there will be significant dumping.

Hardened leather squares, however… I’m pretty sure people will use these in great quantities to level up their leathersmithing and armorsmith to lvl 430 or so. After that, you use a tiny bit of gossamer for about 4 to 5 armor pieces, and you salvage dungeon armor for the new insignia (similar to weapon inscriptions, like rabid and shaman). Yes, these insignia are already in the game as codes and can even be found on wiki. Anyway, at 450 to 475 you use the refining + toxic recipes, and after that, another 5 pieces using inscriptions salvaged from dungeon armor or you craft cheap snowflake giver’s armor. Voila, you’re now lvl 500 and used under 100 pieces of gossamer scraps. I even left out a few other cheap options (such as exotic dirt cheap sigil crafting)

But, but, what will you do with those 3 stacks of gossamer scraps/bolts that you didn’t really need? That’s right, you sell it to buy wool, linen and cotton for the bolts of damask you’ll undoubtedly need in great quantities. Slowly of course, due to the time-gating, but you will need them eventually, especially if you have more than one character.

Prices for gossamer scraps will most definitely to up. Unlike ancient wood, you can’t reliably farm the scraps. Currently there are 54,000 scraps (rounded up) on the market. Let’s say that people are storing twice that many in their banks (likely nowhere near as this).

It’ll take roughly a stack to level up tailor and whatever is needed for armorer. With 162,000 scraps in supply divided by 250, you’ll have enough for 648 people. Considering there will be more than that many trying to max tailoring, the cost will most definitely rise.

What people keep missing is that it does not matter how many scraps people are holding onto. The supply input is pretty consistent as there really is no way to farm them. You can promote silk but there is a threshold where that is no longer cost effective.

Considering you’ll need silk for the T7, these will be drained quickly and the price will go up exponentially. I believe that 3 million silk scraps only yields enough for 20,000 T7 cloths. In pretty sure there’s more than 20,000 active players in this game and the supply input will not be able to keep up for the first week until things settle down.

The gossamer scraps in people’s banks are still considered part of the supply. Those same scraps would have been bought up the second ascended armor was released by people who needed them and those looking to flip them. Stockpiling makes no difference other than make the price for volatile sooner.

you are severely underestimating that amount stockpiled. I have 6000 gossamer scraps personally, and I know a couple people with 10x that amount.

Just because a handful have that many, doesn’t mean everyone does. Let’s say there’s 1,000,000 in supply then. That’s enough for 4,000 people to max their crafts. The price will still go up.

Exactly, it could be possible that for every person with a stockpile, there are 5 casual players with disposable incomes and 0 gossamer scraps saved.
