What Larkir described is the absolute truth, for a while, I had a super lazy engineer build that had about 7 automatic triggers for effects when I was in combat, and the first would proc at 75% or when critically hit.

I got more ruined stuff from nodes than you could count, simply because I didn’t kill things attacking me, or wasn’t stealthy enough. Orr is especially bad for this so just double check your traits and you runes to be sure.

Ohhhh, ohhhh, those guys on the forums are mean to me! They told me my build is bad!!! I hate it! They’re rude so it means I’m right and they’re wrong!!!! I’m huuuuuuuuurt in the feeeeeelings.
What about uh… not taking the internet seriously? No? Well, go ahead and keep getting cathurt, then, what can I say. I’d also like to remind you: NEVER question yourself.
This is the way to go! Keep at it!

I’m not suggesting that they’re in the right for acting that way, but at the same time so many people here wonder why they encounter such conflict so often, but they refuse to look at themselves as a potential source of the problem.

It depends which topic you’re talking about. If it’s a neutral topic and someone has a genuine question/problem, we are usually pretty helpful. Take for example the guy who needed help to solo Lupicus . That thread is full of helpful comments and tips and tricks.

Now, if the subject isn’t neutral, but one that we’ve been hearing so often, and are tired of hearing, we usually already passed the stage of being nice, and we don’t care anymore. Or if it’s a topic that thinly disguised as casual elitism, we’ll usually not answer it nicely.

I am not pointing to anyone in particular, and in fact, you are the exception in several instances. But what does it say when your posts are one of few in a thread that aren’t rude?

And as I have said before, I personally appreciate when people like Brazil take the time to make videos for builds and what not, it is really helpful, but there has to be a middle ground between Soloing Lubricus Efficient and Irredeemably Bad in PvE.

If people are coming here because they are frustrated, upset, or having real problems, and the first thing people do is start trolling them, it isn’t because there are so many bad players (as certain posters allege in-between bans), it’s because the good players are too busy patting each other on the back for trolling to help the community.

I don’t think they’ve failed to explain defiant simply because they’ve never actually explained it anywhere. It is just a matter of hovering your mouse over the icon and reading the description … while you are in the middle of fighting things. -_-

I don’t think they’ve failed to explain defiant simply because they’ve never actually explained it anywhere. It is just a matter of hovering your mouse over the icon and reading the description … while you are in the middle of fighting things. -_-

I think adding a scenario where you have to pull defiant off of a mob would be very useful to teach players about their skill set. Heck, ANY type of “learning” instance would be useful, where you get walked through several types of mechanics, and shown which weapons do what, and where they might be useful.

The tutorial is freaking useless, and the pvp NPCs are arguably worse… anything like an training area with timed tasks, and a test of skills would not only be awesome for achievements, but good for training people in the understanding of their skills.

AC – the first dungeon, is horrible for this.

some of the people that come here to the dungeon forums do so ONLY to make fun of others that come here to ask legitimate questions.

Show me ONE SINGLE thread where somebody makes fun of somebody asking a legitimate question on the dungeons forum.

It may get derailed, but if it’s a legitimate question, it will mostly likely be answered.

How about the funniest player fails thread? It doesn’t qualify as a “question” per se, but it is certainly a LOT of people making fun of others.

Or how about the erstwhile TA F/U path threads, where e’erybody hopped on the troll bandwagon?

The truth is, MOST of the threads started in this forum digress into various forms of sarcastic, rude condescension. My question to you is, can you show me a thread older than a week that DOESN’T have someone with this tone in it?

Truth doesn’t become less true just because you don’t like the tone.

The longer it takes for you to realize this, the longer you’ll run a crappy build.

I would guess you are rude with the “truth” because you would rather feel superior than be helpful.

There are so few exceptions to that here.

I doubt there is a concerted effort on HoD or Kain to purposely drop rating…

Let me stop you right there.

Everyone in this thread knows what’s going on with both of these servers. Kain has lost a lot of players/guilds because of their potential position at the bottom of the Your-Day-In-The-Barrel league, and the remaining players are split between doing their best and farming.

Both NSP and HoD do not want to take that spot in silver, and each has a segment of the population on some type of vacation. NSP is in a much better place to do that thanks to “random” match-ups, but one look at the score and it’s obviously not reflective of the rank disparity between the servers.

Just to cap things off, a group of (ostensibly) HoD players have made a guild solely for the purpose of gaining enough ppt to get to Silver league. Most of these players I have never seen before, and talked about HoD as if they were from someplace else.

I won’t go so far as to say they were guest/temp transfer “plants” to push us past both Kain and NSP, but it was hilariously suspicious.

So the question isn’t if anyone is, on some level, manipulating the matches, but how far would some players go to help their server’s placement when the 18th rolls around?

Building Ele for Dungeon Play. Suggestion?

I honestly don’t use Churning Earth that much, but if it hits harder than a LH auto attack chain (roughly how long the cast time is?) I’ll admit defeat

I recommended his build because it’s so PuG friendly, you can pull your own weight with all the added utility. I run pure LH S/D but only because I run in a group where all the utility I need is provided. Have you tried Pugging with a LH build? I can tell you right now it doesn’t end well.

I pug that build all the time, usually with at least 1 underlevel and 1-2 guildies.

Sometimes it goes really well, and sometimes, it goes hilariously bad. But you know what? It is a fun as kitten build.

Also, I like the churning earth at the end of the rotation (I use s/d lolz) because of the bleeds it procs, which are greatly benefiting from the might stacking. If I don’t have enough natural might stacking from clever puggies running fire fields, I will occasionally pop out my ember powder, and if we are correctly stacked in a corner, this will create lots of fire fields for me to thunderclap.

Or just FGS into corners of things.

FYI – Necros, stop dropping marks over my fire fields, pl0x.

If you want heals, then can’t you just drop a water field and then use the final attack of the lightning hammer chain to blast it for a burst heal?

Unless I’m using staff I won’t have a water field to drop (though teammates could drop one of course). But that’s not so much my point, the point is that specializing in team support and healing via traits and gear isn’t really rewarded.

Staff is apparently meant to have DPS on par with lightning hammer, so…

Tbh if hitting enemies with water hurt them more than fire, I’d be a little concerned.

My problem with this game is What if they are MADE of fire?

As I (and many others on this subforum) have said over and over, if you want to run a useless build in your own groups that’s fine. Just don’t join speedrun groups and DON’T go around preaching about how good the build is just because you don’t care about being optimal. Nothing frustrates me more than someone saying “I don’t care about optimizing I just like to have fun and bla bla, but my build still works REALLY well with my own playstyle and I do very well in dungeons”.

Guardian does get better dps than warrior with max buffs. But that list is very pie in the sky and doesn’t match reality. Sw/Sw mesmer with 3 phantasms up? Let me know how often you get that going in a typical dungeon run. Necromancer with full minions? Yeah no.

Here is the rub: full buffs is hard to get. Despite the rhetoric, maintaining 25 stacks of might for over 20 seconds is somewhat difficult. 25 vuln over 20 seconds is nearly impossible without an engineer. The more rangers, necros, guardians and thieves you have in your group the more difficult these things become. The end result is with just self-buffs, or minimal support from the rest of the group, warrior dps outclasses the rest. Which is why in a pug or even a casual organized run a warrior will likely out dps the others.

That’s why you bring an engineer. Most classes can contribute at least 3-4 stacks of constant might pretty easily (guardian being one of the ones that can’t, at least not without substantial trait investment). If you’re looking at straight DPS rotations without stopping for might (i.e. no warrior switch to LB), warrior gets 3 stacks of might from FGJ + 3 from Warbanner, Ranger gets 4 from Flame Trap + Warhorn, Ele gets 3 from Lava Font + Arcane Wave, etc. Then you either have a engie topping it off with 9-12 stacks of might from his blast rotation (which doesn’t cost DPS) or Mesmer using Signet of Inspiration and you should at least be okay on might even after the first 20 seconds is up. Vuln is a little bit harder since you need so much more of it to cap but that’s why engineers are so good.

Also sword mesmer with 3 phantasms isn’t terribly difficult since you have two offhands, you can drop Swordsman + Duelist and that’s already 2. 12 seconds later you have 3 with one in reserve in case the boss kills one, and you can just summon a clone or utility phantasm to fill the gap in the meantime. It’s not “max” DPS but it’s still really good, especially in pugs where 12 seconds is barely a fraction of the total fight length.

Just curious where you are getting your engineer information from, because when stacking might, we must use several skills that are, in fact, NOT adding to overall DPS.

I like how WvW has disappointed players so comprehensively and reached such a low that people are seriously discussing the coordinator manipulating matchups for his personal enjoyment.

That this conversation is happening not just here, but on every cusp server in the game points to a pretty catastrophic failure of the WvW match-up system. Now if AR and GoM get the flu, and HoD (my server) and Kain take a PvE Holiday, perhaps someone will learn what it’s like to play at the bottom of the Big-Handed Proctologist League.

Perplexity runes

I feel the same way as you do.

E.g. they are fine with P/D on thief as you have to time your traited daze on steal or your venom to interrupt. (CDs are 45 and 20 seconds.)
On P/P | D/P | S/P on the other thand…

S/p is insane. Seriously.

Fought one of these guys on my engineer and died a lot.

You’re an Engineer. Don’t get to comfy with a specific set of traits or utility skills, make adjustments based on what you’re up against. The only thing semi static is your trait spread, everything else you can tailor to murder these stealth, blind, daze spamming unskilled scrubs.

You don’t need broken perplexity runes to do it, just bring Utility Goggles, use runes of Lyssa, and Supply Drop these scrubs, 95% of which run builds like they’ve never heard of a stun break. Seriously there’s so many of these unskilled class mechanic abusers that given enough time any Engineer can learn to hard counter the class in 95% of fights (4% are just that good, and 1% can pull off magical unicorn 20k+ backstabs). Inevitability of any tactic that gets overused is people facing it become experienced in fighting it, ultimately making the experienced player immune to the tactic. Advantage of an Engineer is we’re jacks of all trades and masters of absolutely unexpected tactics…some engineers don’t even know what to expect themselves until they activate their skills.

Engineers are like a box of chocolates, you never know which one contains something your fiercely allergic to. S/P, D/P, P/P thieves however all play the same hand. With incoming buffs to Toss Elixir B and Toss Elixir S, expect a whole lot more QQ on Engineers than just for perplexity abusers.

I kill 99% of thieves for breakfast, but for some reason, this guy was just incredible. I am pretty sure he was running some type of rabid build, more condition cleanse than I have ever seen in my life and maybe some healing power? I have no idea, all I know was, he could spam head shot 5 times in a row, stealth, mug me for another interrupt and then pistol whip me…

And never was at less than 50% health. Just insane.

If you are telling parties what to do over and over again and they are NOT LISTENING, and then posting on the forum how rude and obnoxious the zerkz are, perhaps it’s not the pugs that’s the problem.

I see this opposite. I would say “perhaps it’s not the zerk party that’s the problem”

I guess you would see it that way. Maybe that’s part of the problem.

We can do a back and forth all day, but that will help nothing. There are two scenarios

1) The zerker party is rude. They yell at the 1500 range ranger and tell him to melee. He says he only uses bows, so they call him a BHB and kick him.

2) An efficient group that may or may not be zerk. They say “Hey, do you mind stacking over here and getting a sword. You’re pulling the boss” So the ranger replies “I play how I want” Then he finishes the dungeon and comes on the forums to complain about how elitist zerk parites are.

I see the 2nd one more often than the first.

My guild pulls pugs all the time, and we have only ever kicked one guy after 100s of runs.

One. Mostly for being rude.

We ask nicely, and people are so happy to have the help understanding the mechanics or better ways of doing things, they happily oblige and thank us for the fast run and the help.

But I also don’t talk down to people about their builds on the forums, or act like mine is the only opinion that matters.

I never said you did. We’re talking about in game.

You gave one example to boost my point, and none to the other.

I believe some people that come in here saying that a zerker was rude to them (they probably joined a speedrun group) but I think it’s safe to say a lot are made up to get their point across.

This entire thread (and 80% of the others in this sub) are full of people talking smack about other people’s builds, and that culture permeates the game.

I won’t defend their choices in the current meta, but having everyone harass them about their “terrible” Gear, Traits, Weapons, and utilities isn’t going to bring everyone up to your standards.

The people here moan and complain about how all the “bads” don’t listen, when it’s pretty clear that most people wouldn’t listen to them even if they are correct, simply because they are Dismissive, Condescending, and Rude.

Just because people agree with you doesn’t mean that you are right, and this culture of “the cool kids speed runners club” is creating a very adversarial attitude in both the people who listen to the elitists, and the people who don’t like their superiority complex. Making this particular group their own worst enemy, and rendering them incapable of anything but making fun of people struggling to understand a game that is very different from other MMOs.

At least some of you have made easily found videos about builds and traits for certain professions, but in reality, some of the people that come here to the dungeon forums do so ONLY to make fun of others that come here to ask legitimate questions. I mean, if you are so bored with the game that you have to troll the forums, go play something else and leave the community more positive and helpful than it is with you in it.

Run these two traits; Protection Injection and Stabilized Armour and laugh when they hit you.

With the damage reduction (20%) on stun food, Saffron Bread of some sort.

You may not be laughing when they hit you, but it is pretty funny when they all focus you and it takes more than 3 seconds to kill you.

24 hours
30 min food should not be cheaper than 11,48 silver

200 gem – food cheaper than 22,95 silver would be a gold waste

so more than this it cant be^^ and it dont look bad for cooking

Two things that would make this less economical:

1. Offline time counted… lol.

2. You did anything but fight in that time, such as crafting.

And cooking IS going to 500, so I guess we will have to wait and see.

I will continue not using them. Cool.

And “nerf” doesn’t mean “obsolete”. Even if you think the sky is falling, some good alternatives: earth (with protection injection and that other protection trait that’s like permanent protection) noble (HGH without HGH and 150 condi damage on the side) tormenting (built for engis because of med kit, so nice) undead (yeah) and 2 fire 2 might 2 hoelbrak (HGH/Might stacking runes). Try it out.

I love earth, Noble is looking good, and I still have 6 Forge runes sitting in my bank… maybe I will pull those out. But it depends on the actual “nerf” and if they fix everything that is incorrect about the description, or bring the rune in line with it. Really liking the confusion build anyway, might just keep it.

Anyone have a clue as to what new runes/sigils may be coming out for Halloween?

When you are willing to fail and keep trying. But yes. This.

Here’s my issue, if the elitists are gonna kick guardians because of their OPINION of a single GM trait (one that was a cornerstone trait less than 4 months ago), then they need some perspective, and consider how rude, condescending and snotty they sound when giving “advice.”

AC Spider fail - advice

I don’t think the problem is ranged or melee, the problem is moving. The spider queen sprays poison if anyone moves. If you stack to melee near the stairs and even one person moves an inch, she sprays poison and it’s pretty hopeless because there is no escape or room to dodge.
You can also range her, spread out, just do not move if you don’t want to be sprayed with poison. And don’t run to rez someone who is downed. You will both be poisoned and die. Better to let them rez themselves.
You can even have half the party melee her and one or more party members range. As long as nobody moves.

Nope, I dodge into the corner. Usually on my ele. So I fire#3 into the corner, and FGS #3 into the corner.

It’s a ranged issue, not a moving issue.

^I second this. I have had times where I didn’t pay attention and ran around the corner into her, and then immediately tucked back to the corner and no poison. When I see poison it is usually caused by someone who took some damage, began moving backwards out of fear, causing the heavens to open and pour acid on us.

Same here, dodge into the corner if you don’t have an interrupt off CD.

For the Engie OP:

1. Heal turret for extra heal condition cleanse, learn to spam overcharge it and blast it for the extra heal quickly, or pick it up after the overcharge. 2500+ heal on a ~16 second cool down for the team if you don’t blast it, and 3600+ for the team on a ~20 second cool down if you do, plus it’kittenting you for an extra 2500.

2. Blinds don’t work incredibly on Defiant bosses, but keeping one in your rotation isn’t hard for a little extra insurance. Bomb and Grenade kit have good blinds in them, and FT #5 is OK… but try not to use it for damage, despite what the engie forum says, the damage is lacking.

3. You have a wall for the little spiders (doesn’t work on the queen) in Toss Elixir U, it will give you a smoke wall or a Wall of Reflection (suck it, guardians), both can be useful in AC on several boss fights (Kholer self-pull ftw).

4. I have NO idea about your load-out, but if you are running p/s, a very viable build for kits, don’t ever use the auto attack for anything but pulling, it is arguably the lowest damage auto-attack in the game.

5. Learn how to stack might for your team, my engineer guildie has been working on a bomb/thumper build that stacks like 12 might pretty easy on the whole team, using things he runs normally (except for thumper turret, which I love for trolling).

The current guesting system has really hurt the game. Servers that are not as organized (for example for temple zergs) become deserted as people simply guest to another server (that has an established temple zerg) this prevents the unorganized server from ever becoming organized..

We saw this with Tequatl. After BG succeeded, many players just quit trying on their own servers and started guesting to BG — killing any future chance that their home server would ever kill Tequatl themselves.

Yup. Sometimes I wonder who is in charge of saying “is that a good idea?” at ANet. Putting achievements in the teq fight for getting on the turrets, for being there during the fight (even afk) and then over a week of dailies that required you to be present in the map for the fight (hardcapping ftw). It was a series of poorly conceived moves that left SEVERAL servers unwilling to even try when the guesting system and subsequent ad hoc overflow management were already in place with specialist guilds dedicated to taking the dragon down every day.

Everything is wrong with that fight. Raid content in an open world, encouraging afkers, encouraging achievement addicts, relentlessly punishing anyone who took the encounter seriously, and this is my favorite bit: Slaying pots make you take more damage.

They fudged this up, and the guesting system is only hiding that fact.

E.g. they are fine with P/D on thief as you have to time your traited daze on steal or your venom to interrupt. (CDs are 45 and 20 seconds.)
On P/P | D/P | S/P on the other thand…

I guess you will have to LTP once your crutch is nerfed.

It is the opposite of a crutch, in fact, the meta build for perplexity engie doesn’t even include the massive AoE condition spam everyone complains about. It is a different play style, one that is easily negated by things like condition cleanse, stability, or in most cases, range.

But I realize that you are just responding to the trollish tone of Soon’s post, so I won’t fault you for responding in kind.

This is a very good runeset for engineers for a few reasons, but good engineers were winning a lot of fights before them, and we will win fights after they are nerfed. I am still frankly surprised that so few have noticed them being used on condition thieves in the vaunted “small groups” rife in lower tiers.

Headshot is a spammable interrupt, with proper initiative regen, this build is a stand there and tap #4 over and over faceroll. There are videos where thieves with fireworks are killing people with perplexity, and yet… you are picking on engineers?

Come on people, there are already super-annoying professions with OP builds (without these runes) that are equipping them for the lolz, engineers run them because we don’t have as many good options as other professions, but this set dovetails PERFECTLY with ours. Not only that, it rewards tactical play, and creates a DOUBLE incentive to interrupt someone, not only stopping their action (which is most likely bad for you), but giving them a LOT of confusion in the process.

Yes, I would like to see them nerfed, but it makes me sad that so many engies will get shelved again once there isn’t a reason not to play Guard, War, or Thief.

Usually I view this as a tactics matter, but I can see both sides of it. Why should the side that takes a tower dedicate eyes to a potential security threat? But at the same time, it is a matter of tactics to have a dead spy inside a tower, and quite useful.

Perhaps a timer would be best, since that would both limit the baby-sitting and the spy potential.

My issue is when I zone into Malchor’s, and ask if someone is doing the temple, and am told that no one is, only to wander over to Lyssa a few minutes later and see the event end and her die.

I confronted the people that took the temple, one of which was CLEARLY at the event, and they said, “The temple is open, just like you wanted.”

So if you want to guest to another server and do a temple, have the courtesy to NOT LIE to the people who’s server you are on. It’s rude, and frankly, abuse of the guesting system.

In reality, the issues with guesting are many and varied, not the least of which is allowing for “stacking” servers for one type of content (like wvw), without the repercussions to the OTHER content types (like temple runs).

Interesting.

A couple of weeks ago, my guild was doing Lyssa (on our server, thank you very much). Our GL had her commander tag up, and we were joined by as many randoms as we had guild members. The event became significantly more annoying as scaling kicked in. The GL commented, “Next time I won’t turn my tag on.”

Maybe the people you encountered were similarly inclined? Scaling can turn these events into tedious slogs.

Between:

  • Only doing them for loot mentality
  • Return of loot for time invested mentality
  • Path of least resistance mentality

at least some of temples have turned from events at which more people are viewed as a good thing, to events where more people are viewed as a bad thing.

There were four guys, one more wouldn’t have scaled it to champ gorillas, besides that, lying to someone asking in map chat just to kitten them out of the rewards is beyond rude. There is no justification, especially not selfish efficiency.

I like them very much on my engineer, but I have to agree that they are beyond ridiculous on “headshot” spamming thieves, and stun-lock warriors.

What’s more hilarious is when a 5+ person team is ALL using them, like certain pvp wannabe guilds my server is facing at the moment.

Well it’s kind of a shame. Now i won’t be able to get to lupi in like 8 minutes on my thief anymore to practice solos but ~20 mins instead. Also, at least 20g wasted on all of my characters.

Let’s take a moment to commemorate Healing seed pods, frost guns and the like.

What frost guns? The only reference I can find to them is in Mount Maelstrom, but they are an environmental package and aren’t available for stocking.

And lol at using the rifle in Arah.

I’ll tell you if you post me a video of 4 engineers dancing naked while another engineer solos the legendary grawl shaman @ fractal lv48 with pistol 1 only. I bet you’re too casual for that.

A poor engineer's guide to an MMORPG dungeon

Did this last night with:
Me – Guard
Guildie No.1 – Thief
Guildie No.2 – Engineer
PuG#1 – Thief
PuG#2 – Guard.

Guard is overpowered in this dungeon, but the difference between me and the other guard was, I went down twice, he died about 20 times. Same with the thieves, my guildie is my dungeoneering guru, I have watched him solo half a dozen bosses after party (of every other class) wipes. He was AMAZINGLY resilient and outpacing our damage by quite a bit, but the other thief didn’t seem to pack any condition removal, and stayed in shortbow at range for many encounters.

Learn your class, watch videos on general dungeon encounters, for instance, if you are using LoS (Line of Sight) with your team, and you are on thief, which weapon should you main hand? Sword Cleaves which means that if you are stacked on a group of MoBs you hit more than 1 at a time, and with a skill like Pistol Whip (Sw/P #3) you interrupt/daze multiple targets. Would be very useful for taskmasters, eh? Also, your #5 skill is a pulsing smoke field which blinds 5 enemies a second when they stand in it. Incredibly useful for LoS pulls.

In short, as it has been stated, it isn’t about the professions, it about the players. And many players mistake OP professions with generally better players. This is not the case.

Better players > OP professions any day.

Communication and ability to understand the encounters is KEY to any PuG you run. And if you encounter someone who is playing your profession more successfully, ask them some questions about what you should be doing, and where to find more information.

I didn’t mind the bosses, but the leading the ooze room is terrible terrible game design. It’s too rewarding for some classes/specs, and punishing for others. Make the Ooze an allied unit so that players can’t damage it.

I can’t agree with the rest of your post, but this is the absolute truth. I went in on my guardian KNOWING that it would be the profession easiest to beat it with, ignoring my Engineer (Main), and my Ele (for funsies).

The oozes were of particular ease for my guard, since with hammer – sc/shield running WoR, SoA, and sanctuary for the clutch allowed SO much CC that the Ooze is immune to, we had to slow it down more than once because we were moving too quickly.

There are very few professions with as many reflects/absorbs, or other sustained CC to fulfill this role in the same capacity. I say this with an engineer main, who on her best day could do about half as much CC, while being about 1/4th as survivable, while effectively having only 2 non-aoe attacks which is completely unacceptable where you can damage the ooze with any proximity attack.

Once again, Guardians are the kings of all content.

It’s ridiculous.

Speculation About New Materials

Good morning. After reading through a few pages and a few vigorous google searches, I have come to the conclusion that if anyone is discussing the not-in-game materials yet, it is in closed session. So I wanted to speculate as to how and where we would go about finding the new materials, and how this may affect the market.

I think this is a very good guess, and it has in part fueled the spike in price of basic cloth both refined and unrefined, because as others have pointed out, they are different than most other basic mats in a few ways:

-No open world harvest
-A limited window for farming/salvage different tiers
-Used in ALL 3 “armor” crafting disciplines
-There are 6 pieces of armor that we wear, compared to a max 4 weapons at any given time

Thus, the same thing we are seeing now with prices of different tiers of mats will be increased quite a bit, with cloth taking the prize for most inflated.

I am (dangerously) assuming some parallels with the crafting process for weapons, but with a few key changes I will outline here:

First, we know that there will be T7 mats, the ecto-upgrade will be time-gated, like Mithrillium, the Spools of Silk weaving thread will require Ectos, bolts of silk (50), and most likely Thermos.

If you look at the ascended material section of your crafting bank, you will notice that those aren’t the only 2 unimplemented mats, with both 2 levels of Crystalline mats, and the Xunlai Electrum Ingots. Based on their location, the Crystalline Ore will most likely be a world drop of some sort, but I think they have their bases covered with the other 3 materials. So I believe there are 3 potential options:

1. Crystalline Ore will replace the Bloodstone glut in some fashion, most likely with RNG from individual champ boxes. The amount people are recieving in just one dungeon run outpaces the Empyreal mats by quite a bit.

2. It will be a common drop from harvesting T6 materials, such as Ori nodes and Ancient wood trees. This encourages more harvest and price stability.

3. There will be a new system in place like champ boxes that we haven’t seen yet, such as salvaging new drops that would also provide cloth, to stabilize basic cloth prices somewhat.

The reason I think this is important is simple, I think that vision crystals will REQUIRE the new material after the ascended armor update. I am not a veteran of GW1, but my understanding is that there was no vision crystal parallel, just the crystal itself that you made. Please correct me if I am misinformed about this.

There is always the possibility that there will be some other type of crafted item that will be required for the armor pieces, it may even require LESS of these materials the the weapons, since even 6 pieces of armor will not affect the combat calculation as heavily as a 5% boost in weapon damage (except for pvt gear, perhaps).

I will be stockpiling a few vision crystals, just in case. I can always use them for weapons later.

The Xunlai Electrum Ingots will be a bit more straight forward, in that they sit next to the dark matter and the thermos, so for those I would guess that they REPLACE the dark matter in crafting armor, and are salvageable from Exotic Armor, splitting from Exotic Weapons giving dark matter only, after the ascended armor patch. They could also be a vendor gold sink, like the thermos are, but I think that ANet will want to increase the amount, specifically, of gossamer insignias, to help stabilize their price after the ascended weapon frenzy dies down a bit.

There is also the outside possibility that they are looking down the road to ascended jewelcrafting for the Xunlai Electrum, since electrum is classically a mix of silver and gold, there is every possibility that this will be used to crafted the filigree, etc. for jewelry. I am hesitant to consider this, though, since there only seems to be a refined version of it, whereas with most basic jewel-specific metals, there is an ore AND an ingot.

This is all, of course, rabid speculation, the devs can always reshuffle the ascended mats section of the crafting bank and render much of this obsolete. They can get feedback from players and their economists and decided to relieve stress on certain segments of the market, or scrap the whole thing and start over for the ascended armor crafting.

You have no idea of what you’re going to unleash.

Proved that slick shoes are viable.

Was there ever an argument otherwise? I’ve always thought it was a pretty cool skill, made only better when it got a stun break as well. Great for bomb builds, or anything where you need to be in melee range really. Allows you land big spikes quite nicely with the knockdowns, and the mobility from the toolbelt is nice also.

P.S. I hate the word “viable” in this game. It’s so… “played out”

There was an argument. There was a topic where someone pulled out a quote from Teldo saying Slick shoes wasn’t viable.

This is the point where you just look at those people and shake your head.

He doesn’t say it’s not a viable skill, just that the cool down is a bit too long. I have run these in a bomb build a few times, and I tend to agree. Additionally, the AoE size seems to be buggy and small on uneven geometry, after having used them on the WvW points a few times, but I prolly won’t slot them again until the CD is shortened to 45 seconds or so. The tool belt skill is the stun break, so it deserves a longer cool down, but 45 for the regular slot skill should be plenty IMHUO.

You guys (and the majority of the rest of these forums) have it a bit backwards.

They don’t want to retain all of their customers, especially not the ones they have exhausted the gem purchases from (read: WvWers), they want to actively encourage expanding the player base further into the casual market.

Time gating, regular releases of content and other things that create a set of players that log in at regular intervals, play something they are interested in, do some form of “daily ritual” which may or may not include dailies and then log out.

Why do you think this game has less robust tools for dealing with serious tasks like running guilds, running parties even or map management?

They grind out the serious players by giving them a series of walls to hit, and then bring in the new people to experience the wonder of the game anew.

Yeah, I’ve been playing my ele for about 2 weeks now, and have a guardian as well. These videos seemed… disingenuous in that I can do better with the ele after 2 weeks than that.

You want to see a profession with a high skill ceiling? (because that IS what we are talking about) Try just clicking skills on the basic Engineer build. There is a study in a high skill ceiling with a VERY low reward, out pacing ele by quite a bit.

Also, conjures ARE OP. I <3 them.

Actually I’d like to see the 2-week-old ele swagging the npcs without the conjures and d/d or d/f in under 2 minutes or even 1.

Bragging is cool but vids proving it are far cooler.

Engi is much more flexible on top of being harder to play isn’kitten

You do it as an engineer without kits and a pistol/shield build and I will do it as an ele without conjures

I said it once, and will again: YB sure seems to have some classy folks.

FWIW: only people running zerker feelings come here to vent about people that /dance, /laugh or whatever when they roll over you.

It’s called sportsmanlike conduct, and I am sure you wouldn’t understand. I personally don’t care one way or the other, but as my server’s morale has suffered under 4 weeks of this type of blowout, and the last thing we need is a bunch of pvp wannabes giving our people even more reason to pve instead of wvw.

But I remember when SF spawn-camped us and destroyed us utterly, and we got through that and moved up in ranking. Maybe I should give my server more credit, since according to the score, we are both ahead of you in this match up, and in points overall.

On the whole, I agree with your assessment of YB people, though. They are MUCH classier than some servers we have faced, especially on the forums.

Your server has spawn camped others, if you can’t take it (4 weeks or 1week) then that is a personal issue, plain and simple. (Personal meaning to each person not just you) Spawn camping is something that a server chooses to let happen. People are not there because they choose not to be, plain and simple. I saw it on ET, I have seen it on SF, people either leave or just don’t enter if they think they are outnumbered.

It is an aspect of the game that is just about as common as golem rushes…It happens every week in many matchups.

Also if we start giving credit for “whose in 2nd, who is ‘ahead’ of who”, or any amalgamation of those type of statements: count me out. The only thing it tells me is that you have people that PVdoor while SF is asleep. We have had the same coverage gap since T8, we are over it.

There is no need to worry with PPT once you realize this game is coverage wars, not guild wars, and surely not RvR.

I was in your Borderlands last night. Bay was a breeze, but we were just warming up in the south. Your Hills were lovely, and were ready for us to knock down the gate and rush in. Your Garrison was ready and willing. Such little resistance.

I was playing Diablo 3, clearly you can see I am terribly concerned. Unlike you, I do not worry with things that I cannot control, and PPT/WvW is one of those things. I just play hard while I am there.
