Why 60 fps? You can only see 24… As long as you’re over 30 consistently you should be fine.

Usually, what people say is an indication of the exact opposite they say. People lie. If you should have learned anything from Dr House, it’s exactly that.

There are no power-mongering mods on this forum and I have seen no such issues. If anything they are very polite, answer even stupid questions (repeatedly). If you have bad feelings with the moderator team, I very strongly recommend looking in the mirror.

The only problem I have with moderators is that they adhere to american morals which are to some extent detestable for Europeans. The only infraction I disagreed with was discussion of bisexuality in broad non-descriptive strokes. Apparently that’s not okay.

I don’t follow your logic. You assume I only know about necros when in reality the only profession I don’t play is Ele (and that because I only have 7 characters right now). Having one person dedicated to identifying bugs and quality of life improvements for each profession is a very good idea. We know that some devs play warriors, eles, mesmers, and theives (screenshots are all over these boards showing that). Necros, engineers, and rangers…not so much.

I know the extent of that problem. It was shown in highly blatant Kalganism in WoW. However WoW is a gear grind game while GW2 is very much an alt game. I’m pretty sure most devs have a few alts on the side. I bet you dimes to dollars these alts are anonymous to guarantuee a bit of well-deserved privacy.

If this isn’t the case, then without communication, we have no idea that the devs even know about the issue.

Devs read the forums. However devs have better things to do than start answering forum threads. Such things don’t end and takes away time from the important stuff such as fixing bugs and improving features.

Note I said “quality of life” and not “balance.” There is a massive difference between the two. Changing the Death Shroud UI would not affect balance at all, but it would allow necros to make decisions based on information that their opponents have about them, but they do not. Hint: if anyone should have information on you, it should be you.

Well… quality of life is on par all things considered. Do you remember paladins on launch day in WoW? They didn’t even have talents. IF AH unreachable due to a chasm in front of it while 5fps was the norm? 5000 people queues on most realms? That’s how other games had quality of life months to years after release. All things considered, necro can be improved, but not like it’s bad. Just moderately good which is fine so soon after release.

How to: get the most from your Nvidia GPU, high end PC and GW2

The opening posts sounds a lot like “i have a lot of money and want to brag about my 2 alienware PCs”. For most regular users following applies:

- use a vacuum cleaner but don’t touch components nor chassis. I’d guess this is pretty obvious but apparently not. I’ve always cleaned with vacuum and it works just fine. Never had a single damaged component. Compressed air cans are expensive, you’ll be equallly good with the 20€ compressor you bought for your race bike. Matter of fact, I use exactly that at my job to clean high end industrial PCs (compared to which alienware is a joke).

- don’t use sli or crossfire. It’s asking for problems, and not worth it. Really … it isn’t. You’re paying over 500€ for an increase in fps that’s barely noticeable. I have a single gtx 560. It cost me 120€ and I run 30fps in LA on highest.

- use the newest non-beta drivers. Again, beta drivers are simply not worth the hassle. Obviously, I’m speaking from professional experience. It’s what I recommend my customers, some of whom built the components in the PC you’re currently using to read this post.

- Stock fans on minimum speed are fine as long as you don’t overclock. Don’t fret over it. Just maintain your machine with regular vacuum cleaning. Regular means once a year or so. Overheating PCs just shut down, you will not damage anything wit heat. If your PC doesn’t have BSOD, cleaning is not necessary. Also don’t overcool your room, just make sure you’re comfortable, even if that means having your gaming PC in a 30 degree room. Really… it doesn’t make that much of a difference. We test our machines in an 80 degree celsius sauna with 95% humidity on 100% load. They can survive a rough time, this is 2012, not 1999.

- get an SSD and 6gb or 8gb ram (depending on triple or double channel). Ram is most important for an MMO, not video card. SSD cuts down on loading times which is enjoyable but in no way improves visual performance. A 128GB SSD is more than plenty for a dedicated gaming machine (win8 + 2 games) and costs 90€.

My machine is 2 years old. It has an i7 920 with 6gb ram. Only the videocard is new, but that was a treat, not because it was necessary. The old hd 4890 worked just fine. However I got a third monitor cheap and 4890 only has 2 outputs. After two years a man can give himself a new toy I think, even if said toy doesn’t really bring anything

30 fps in LA is a benchmark line. As long as you have that while turning around, you’ll be fine. Anything higher is merely bragging rights. Feel free to pay for that but it is in no way useful, necessary or even visible.

Building a good machine nowadays is dirt cheap. Just throwing that out there, it’s important. Not everyone has a mother or sugardaddy paying for their toys. In fact, I’m paying for other people’s toys, can’t waste everything on invisible frames. Any modern pc with at least a dedicated videocard will run GW2 on max settings. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

If they dont impove alot of the elite skills then sure, but Id much rather they made the elites actually (drum roll please) ELITE

This. Two things have to be done:
- seriously buff elite skills, including racials
- every profession needs far more choice, 10 would be a bare minimum. These skills should define your build next to your weapon.

I speak as an engi.
- bazooka: virtually useless. I actually never used it.
- Elixir X: pretty nice, if only it wasn’t that random
- Supply drop: useful, flexible but not “elite”. Turrets should be unique, not clones of utility skills.

So the choice is between worthless, flexible and random. I’d like a whole lot more.

Each class deserves a dedicated fulltime dev

Are you going to pay them?

Apart from that, it’s a bad idea. Every profession dev will automatically favor his own profession, even if he doesn’t want to. It’s up to a profession TEAM to systematically balance and repair ALL professions. Whether that team is made of 5 or 15 people is irrelevant as long as the work is done.

This is exactly why it would be a good idea. They would still have to collaborate, this merely brings issues with the less popular classes to the fore far faster.

I can speak from the Necro board that the majority of people playing the necro aren’t even sure if any of the devs play necro at all, which is why they have some rather large issues (namely Death Shroud UI and minion AI) that still haven’t been fixed (although ANet has posted that they are being worked on, just with no timeline).

This idea would assure that each class gets attention.

You only speak from the necro board, yet every profession has whines that they aren’t represented. Warriors whine about their burst. Eles whine about switching attunements. Thiefs whine about p/p. Engineers whine about bugs. Rangers whine about required pets. Guardians whine about useless traits.

Your post is exactly why it’d be a BAD idea. You have no idea of the troubles of other professions. Matter of fact, the game is still young and there’s plenty to fix. Let the team do their job. Bugs and balance are actually completely distinct teams (see blog). The “being worked on with no timeline” is true for every profession and that’s the way it should be. Unfortunately being a programmer is not an easy job. So please let a.net do their job. All classes are currently playable and enjoyable. That’s more than any other MMO ever managed so soon after launch.

in Black Lion Trading Co

marnick.4305

There isn’t a clear cut line but I’d recommend the following:
- if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
The game is highly structured. The components for most things are extremely predictable. If any recipe deviates from that, you’re looking at potential expoits.

The reason for the cheap recipes was simple: give everyone a fair chance at wintersday gear. Exploiting a fair chance into game breaking amounts of ectoplasm is another story entirely. Not many people would have guessed this, only the ones actively looking for exploitable mechanics.

It’s about the 99% who are hurt badly because 1% uses an exploit to destroy the economy. You can thank the exploiters for fivefold increase in price on an item that was intended to be dirt cheap.

Guild Wars 2 in 2013

I expect a lot of inspansions, which is the opposite of expansions. Revisit old parts of the world and add more stuff. War in Kryta and Winds of Change are perfect examples of how to revisit old content. Titles and reputation will be good things for this.

Please try to remember what GW1 looked like after half a year. The game was almost dead, and most content was exhausted, yet the foundation was solid. I logged in many times because I wanted to play yet had no reason to. Factions and Nightfall revived the game and turned the stale world in a living one.

Personally I expect the same in GW2. By summer even the casual people will have exhausted all content. A few good patches and an expansion will then make this game perfect. All that can and must be done without raising either level cap or stat cap.

NOT quite, one can very well have a more dynamic fighting style in LotrO as it also incorporates flanking.
What really is a deal breaker for going back is GW2´s awesome Art style and the incredibly dated LotrO engine, at least for me.

Black Lion Credit

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

Purchasing gems and trading them for gold is as valid a route to a legendary as any other route. If it wasn’t we wouldn’t have an exchange rate, and you wouldn’t be able to sell them on the TP. I’ve killed sparks and Jormag’s claw ele’s until my eyes bled and never saw a single lodestone drop. Not everyone will get a legendary “sooner or later” this game is too heavily governed by an RNG.

That’s not true and you know it. Even if you don’t have much luck farming, you can still at least farm gold for those things.

Most companies that offer high dollar items, electronics stores, furniture stores, the automotive industry, offer their own credit. They would also be able to offer lower interest rates than most credit cards. ArenaNet would take a much lower risk by offering credit in that there is no physical property to repossess if someone were to default. It would be a smart business move on their part. Why should credit card companies make money off of purchases from ArenaNet instead of them offering credit themselves?

Because it’s a dick move, and most companies doing so are rightfully criticized for it. Car companies get big protests because their loans are unfair, and walmart loans are hurting families because people will overspend on necessary things. They both also further customer loyalty and work towards targeted spam. Very, very bad ideas. Those things hardly exist in the sane world (Europe).

Credit is fine so long as a person doesn’t accept more credit than they can afford to pay back. The world’s current economic crisis is because of people’s purchase of homes on credit, and not because they took credit, but because they took more credit than they could afford to pay back.

So you suggest a model where someone pays 120 dollars a month for a year. Like that’s not more than they should be able to pay back? You do realize the only people who’ll do this are actually the people who can’t and shouldn’t buy stuff that costs 9000 dollars? How about a 16yo stealing their mom’s credit card and overcharging it for a stupid sword?

It’s not only a stupid idea, it’s dangerous.

The saddest part of this post is that indoctrinated people will disagree with this. This is pretty much spot on what most complaints are about.
I don’t have anything to contribute to your post OP, because you stated everything that i am hoping to change for the better in the next year. Especially the rewards and making gold in this game. Right now it’s much cheaper to play a subscription MMO and pay 10-15 bucks a month to get everything obtainable in a reasonable amount of time than spend $100+ to gamble and hope i get even one item.

You’re wrong because in most sub-based games, getting everything obtainable takes A/ several months, which is not a reasonable amount of time and B/ when you finally have it, it is no longer the best obtainable item. Two weeks in GW2 gives you a max level toon with best stat gear. Anything after that is entirely optional. I don’t understand why you think several months is shorter than 2 weeks but in my books it isn’t.

In any case, MMOs are based on the premise you can’t beat them in any traditional sense. Pretty difficult to explain to girlfriends and the like.
- Q: How many lives you have? A: Pretty much infinite
- Q: How do you win? A: there’s no real winning condition
- Q: Why do you play it then? A: because it’s fun
- Q: Who are you playing against? A: no one, I play with them against the computer
- Q: Why does it look worse than GW1? A: Because you can be with dozens of people in the same place.

So funny she noticed that without knowing anything about videogames. On the other hand, a friend called GW2 beautiful, that’s when I told him GW1 was even prettier. This is an IT guy so props to you guys.

I play very casually and I usually get 1 or 2 days an evening, consistently. I noticed far fewer drops on my lvl 80 and more on my alts. Could be coincidence though but to me it feels like a low level drop that replaces white armor. Since this drops less at higher levels, dye also drops less.

Maybe it’s alt season. I imagine most people are about done with their main by know and up for something new.

I strongly recommend to check dulfy.com. There’s a list with jumping puzzles from easy to hardest. I did the first 10 or so according to that list and it greatly improved my jumping skill.

You’re partly right on this game being a bit jump wars. I don’t see that as a problem, just like it wasn’t a problem for Aion to have/need wings. Every game needs a differentiating mechanic.
The funny thing being, jumping was impossible in GW1. People cried about it for ages so for GW2 they basically said: you want jumping? Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it.

Mursaat disappeared because of the Titans. Don’t look too much into it. The players started a genocide in prophecies and finished it in EotN. Even if some are left, they are only a minor threat until at least they get superior magic/tech/numbers again.

I’m pretty sure they will appear some place or another, they are the quintessential Guild Wars enemy and one of the cornerstones of the lore.

No to WoW, yes to GW2. I don’t think the “40 man” was a slip of the tongue, you just want to play another game. This is not WoW for free and you’re not making it.

A nice troll post though, you start out and end with things everyone wants and needs, and in the middle you add stuff no one wants. People skimming your post would be inclined to vote it up however most of your suggestions would be detrimental to the game.

Legendary weapon oriented dungeons please

First thing, every legendary already requires 500 tokens from a particular dungeon. That’s only 10 runs so …. That being said, the components indeed should be a bit more “farmable” as in, predictable. Let lodestones be bought for 60 tokens maybe?

Other components demanding a particular open world chain are the icy lodestones and obsidian shards. I do think the implementation could have been better though.

There are plenty of reasons why this is a bad idea.
Those who will never see 1400 can still get a legendary by playing the game. Almost everyone can get one sooner or later, and the cheaper ones are no more than 600 which can be bought in increments (precursor, lodestones, recipes)

That being said, the option already exists. No one forbids you from taking out a loan or overcharging your credit card to buy gems. That’s between you and your bank company. However I strongly discourage you to ever do such a stupid thing. Don’t spend money you don’t have! Every man knows there’s only 1 thing that merits a private loan and that’s the house you intend to live in for the rest of your life.

How is Guild Wars Doing?

The game is alive and kicking at lvl 80 As you may imagine for a game without a steep levelling curve, the lower zones are a bit less populated. You will run into players though and if you use map chat you will get groups for group events pretty much everywhere. Good luck.

How do you define "win" in gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

If I’m having fun, I win.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Fun trumps everything.

So, what makes me have fun?
- I just play the dungeons I feel like. AC is fun because I can steamroll it. HotM is fun because it’s a nice area. TA is fun because it’s hard. FotM is not fun because of the gating.

- I play alts, because that leads to variety. Variety is fn

- jumping puzzles are fun because they are the most challenging content in the game

- killing the big dragons will never get old!

If you don’t care about the rewards, you always win.

GW2 feels like a F2P game (my opinion)

- Lottery: You seem to be forgetting smth…GW2 is b2p, not p2p. In that sense, it’s closer to a f2p game and it’s been proven over and over again that gambling is a great way to get money. You don’t know what their income is, maybe they need this to keep working on expansions? every time I see players going on and on about greedy companies…I wonder if those players ever had a budget to manage.

This one is so true. People who whine about gem prices, gem costs and what not, are, in my perception, the elitists who wouldn’t spend a dime on GW2. They play GW2 because it’s WoW for free. Then they blame people for supporting the game they love. Every time I pay 30 euros into gems, I imagine how I’m technically paying the monthly for 2 other people, people who are most likely complaining about this game being f2p.

A Second Chance?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

In GW1 I gave a.net tens of second chances. Most of the time it turned out good to exquisite. A lot of content I vowed to never play until my personal skill improved and I learned how to tackle it.

I do believe gear progression is a very, very grave mistake. I can only hope they stay true to the word “shallow”, whatever that means. 10cm depth is a shallow creek until a baby drowns in it.

GW2 is far from perfect but the article misses the ball a few core points:
- the crafting is very good in GW2 and once you realize discovery, is easier, cheaper and more fun than any other RPG. Granted it is non intuitive to grinders but I consider that a good thing.

- in the same vein, WoW veterans still do not understand how the dynamic event system works. Ride the chain. Have fun. That’s the best way to level.

Jan + February Content Speculation

in Lore

marnick.4305

- an extra two traditional story/exp dungeons
- non-fractal ways to get ascended gear and 2 new pieces of which 1 armor
- repair fractal scales to max or average scale so it doesn’t gate nearly as bad.
- insane non-gold chain for precursor that can be done in small time investments
- a new area behind one of the content doors
- a new open world dragon champion and improved drops on champ/vets
- overhaul for Southsun, Mount Maelstrom and capital cities
- the promised WvW overhaul and sPvp changes

That would be much, if it was only half I’d happily buy gems towards that.

Focus on map completion for the early areas and you’ll easily catch up. Also since you like PVP, maybe do some WvW, getting levels there is insanely easy. On a good guild run I could rack up 3 levels in two hours.
