Why are 20 slots so cost inefficient?

It’s a luxury item, a vanity thing. Reality is, for those 8 gold you can easily buy 2 bag slots for gems and fill them with 18 slotters, getting you 36 slots instead of 4.

So really, it’s for rich people who can then say “i’ve got 3 20-slot bags”.

You mean the price corrected itself? If it stays at 340, that’s actually the correct price, otherwise it’ll just come down again. No one is forcing you to buy it at overpriced worth. If you wait, you’ll find out yourself what the correct price is.

Someone tried the same with my target (chaos gun) and it’s slowly going down again.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mining_Pick
A pain for normal people to run level 1s to that rich node without an escort, sure. Still worth doing. But for people who can teleport there instantly? An infinite make character->mine->delete->repeat cycle for endless ore.

Is this your story in terms of events?

  • Bot makes character.
  • Level 1 Bot somehow gets to a level 51 NPC, passing all of the mobs in the way without dying (which probably takes ages – try it).
  • Level 1 Bot somehow completes the karma event (and others to get the necessary 602 karma) for a pick.
  • Level 1 Bot gets past lots of Karkas on the Southshore.
  • Level 1 Bot farms the rich node without being killed by the uber Karka.
  • Bot mails Ori to alt and deletes character.
  • goto 10

Lots of these seem;

  • unfeasible
    and,
  • time-inefficient.

The pick is account bound. Do you know what that means?

It means it’s an easy fix.

And that anet should do it quickly. Right now gold sellers just need one character to buy loads of these and hand it over to noob alts to farm ori. I hope they get on this.

They’re not noob alts. If anything they’re pro alts because this guy knows his stuff

Still… I don’t think it’s worth it. If anything I’d just use this time to buy cheap ori ktnxbai.

Level scaling is good!

I only found 1 place where it didn’t work that well. The troll cave in the north of Mount Maelstrom. The first troll on the outside is 5 levels higher than you, until you run inside the cave, then it becomes far easier suddenly. I feel the scaling zone should be slightly expanded to 1200 range from the first mob.

Which class is in dire need of revision?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

Its the 3 weakest character classes, which are:-

1 Engineer
2 Nercro
3 Ranger

What do those 3 have in common?

They all have summons of one sort or another, Rangers (pets), Necro (minions) and Engineers (turrets). The summons however don’t make up for the individual loss of power in one form or another.

Basically, Anet just can’t do any class with summons, they fail every time.

So basically you’re saying:

Up the scaling and AI of minions in general, and you’re fixing 3 professions at once?

Guess that might not be the worst idea

5g for level 80? That’s a joke. It’s 5 gold PER crafting discipline you level. And each crafting discipline only gets you 10 levels up. So you’d need to level 8 crafting disciplines for 40g. Looks like a big difference, so I support the class kit greatly.

What would it bring to the table? There’s absolutely no good argument to change profession with gems. At least try to give a coherent reason why this would be a good idea?

Furthermore: “Classes” are not implemented in this game so a class kit wouldn’t do anything at all.

How to make the most of your (company) Laptop

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

Hello, I have a few tips concerning laptop use for Guild Wars 2. Some of us travel a lot, and buying a real PC is not an option. Even if we have one, making sure our laptop works properly is a concern. Furthermore, having a laptop comes with a few random perks which I will cover too.

This guide is about forcing a square into a circle. I have played many videogames on several laptops. I’ve learned that laptops are not meant for playing games. Not even expensive alienware laptops. These promises are completely vain. All will break due to overheating sooner rather than later. A laptop used for office work will easily last 4+ years. A laptop used for gaming will be broken beyond repair in less than 2 years. You have been warned. As such, this guide is meant to prolong the inevitable rather than to avoid it. If you’re not a traveler, you should avoid laptops for gaming at all costs.

1: Hardware requirements
——————————————————
I’ve seen several laptops being used for Guild Wars 2. The two most important things are RAM and GPU. Also concerning many laptops are low-specced company laptops, I have found following to be a very solid baseline:
- Most laptops still have a 32 bit operating system. Because of that, 4 GB ram is enough. I have found that 4 GB is enough for most areas of the game.
- GPU: most modern laptops come with an i5 CPU which is more than strong enough for the game. This CPU comes with an integrated Intel HD family videocard. While this won’t run on anything but lowest, it is does it’s job, even in LA.
- If you’re a consumer, buy yourself a business model. Consumer models are intended to be stationary and made from cheap plastic. Travelling with them is not healthy for the machines. The business models tend to have more durable hardware and sturdy plastic. If you can’t buy it directly on the website, calling hotline usually helps.

2: Configuration tips
——————————————
- Get the newest drivers for your intel HD family videocard. This will be the difference between 10fps with artefacts and 20fps solid in Lion’s Arch.
- Configure your game on lowest possible settings and cap framerate at 30fps. Laptops are not meant for playing videogames, don’t stretch your luck. Capping will prevent overheating issues on moments when the game will make useless frames.

3: User tips
———————-
- Buy yourself a vegetable cutting plank the size of your laptop. These cost 2 to 5 euros in any regular supermarket.
- When in bed, use the cutting plank to give your laptop a hard surface instead of putting it on a pillow or blanket. Pillow suffocates your laptop and it will overheat.
- When sitting in a couch, also use the cutting plank. You will thank me if you wish to have kids some time in the future.

Both of these scenarios happen all the time. Using laptops in bed or in a couch are extremely common for travelers. A cutting plank will insure proper cooling of your laptop, and prevents your lap from overheating. This will lead to sterilization if you’re not cautious.
=> Trolling concerning these topics will be reported.

4: Experiences
——————————
Works means: at least 20fps solid on lowest settings. 20 fps should be enough. If not …. get yourself a real PC.
- Works: Dungeons, sPVP, open world, Orr, small scale WvW ….
- Does not work: Large scale WvW

Moral boost?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

There is a big difference between moral and morale.

In any case, bugs are normal in MMOs. It depends a bit what is bugged. If skills don’t do what they’re supposed to or an instance doesn’t work that you need to complete a story, those are major bugs that need fixing. But bugs are part of MMOs.

Absolutely. At 5 months after launch, WoW had 5000 people queues on most servers, gear grind was atrocious and some classes didn’t even have talents, let alone functional ones. The game was beyond broken. Compared to that, GW2 is in a really good shape.

I do not care for the story lines, the voice acting is horrible. The world is beautifully crafted but fails to make a connection for me. The skill bar and trait system are not very good and the game doesn’t really have a lot of cool skins for gear. The reward system is all over the place.

I no longer play but still hope that Anet will be able to turn things around. Time will tell.

For this one I just call GW1 into the defense. 5 months after launch, the PVE game was all but dead. There was no end goal at all except obsidian. So just wait it out. There’s nothing wrong with that. You won’t recognize the game in another 5 months from now because everything will be so smooth. It’s launch period. You should enjoy it, this is the most fun time of an MMO, where everything is fresh and new. And yes, that comes with a fair share of bugs, broken items and so on. To me, imperfections is what gives game charm.

Care to explain?

Lies Most dungeons are indeed extremely hard until you get them. At that point they become very easy. To me that’s evidence of good design.

Most dungeons work 100% of the time, I have no idea where this “rarely work” comes from. Only Arah and Fractals have game breaking bugs atm and they’re clearly being worked on.

Weapons are also important because not every profession has the same. So I propose a tool to change profession as long as the new profession has:
- the same weapons
- the same armor class

Without sarcasm this means it’s impossible and I don’t support the suggestion. Since it takes a short time to level a new character, and even shorter to gear it, I have absolutely no clue why anyone would want this.

If you want to pay gems for this, just get yourself crafting materials. For about 5 gold you can get a character up to 80. So technically this suggestion already exists.

Day or Night in game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

marnick.4305

I think the OP means differences other than the obvious. I remember when you would enter a town in LoZooT (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, for those who don’t know), it would have shops closed at night and much less NPCs.

I did notice a change in the background music when it goes from night to day in GW2; or maybe its just me lol.

Imho the day-night cycle should be on a 24 hour cycle like in WoW. Night time is barely noticeable and really doesn’t add much to the game in GW2. In WoW, night time was really when the game became fun.

Anyhow, Ocarina of Time is still the best game of all time, and the day-night cycle in the Fields and villages were very important.

2/ for dungeons, either get a guild or www.gw2lfg.com. I find dungeons in minutes there, any time of the day.

3/ hunt achievements, do jumping puzzles, kill the big dragons and go for a craft

4/ set your eyes on a cool weapon such as a legendary or other nice design

Your premises are all wrong:

- The community is NOT angry. The forum is, but forums always are. Please try to read the facebook comments which are almost 100% positive. The community is a very healthy one

- Buying gems with gold means buying them from another player who bought them with money. All gems have been paid for, one way or another.

- There’s a drop in players, but that’s always the case this time after launch. On the other hand, people are still playing in massive numbers. Other MMOs did not have that luxury.

So … while your post has a lot of self projecting, it is factually wrong and because of that, arena.net will read it and classify it as nonsense.

Laptops aren’t meant for gaming. Most laptop videocards are a scam. Nvidia and Ati will overheat, you can bet on that. The only ones that I found work at least half of the time, are modern intel videocards, as stupid as that may sound.

Learn the encounters. That’s the most important one.

For example, AC path 1 has a burrows “boss” where you have to kill 6 burrows. You need to know the order by heart, otherwise you wipe every time. You also need to know how to kill these as fast as possible.

First time you do this one, it takes you several wipes. Once you have it on farm, you never wipe, not even without gear nor traits. Most bosses are like that. Ask for tactics in your group.

Dungeons in GW2 need skill, which is not necessary in games with trinities.

One or two more main hand weapons would bring some much needed diversity. That, or kits need a serious buff since pistol 1 outdamages every other kit with full exotic gear.

Not to say engi is weak, it is a really versatile class and indeed master of none. Exactly the kind of character I like to play. But as far as weapons go, they’re just shoehorned into 1 pve set.

The PTS is never used for testing. They are wasted resources.

- 105 ecto
- 105 obsidian
- 60k
- some random materials
Grand total: almost 2,000,000 gold piece or 2000k or 2 full banks.

And it wasn’t like gold income was high in GW1 either … Personally, I simply saved up for over a year before I first managed to put together the 105 ecto and 105 obsidian. So saving up quite a while for a legendary … not a big deal.

IMHO, the problem is with the players. They want these things yesterday while they are actually meant for next year.

The problem is that i dont need 8 gold , i need the onyx lodestones ! The problem is that i didn’t asked HOW TO MAKE MONEY IN GW2 , or HOW TO BUY ONYX LODESTONES ! The problem is that this **** can’t go on more than this ! GIVE THIS GAME A DECENT DROP RATE !

As I said:
> do TP explorable. This drops 1 lodestone per 2 runs on average
> farm onyx cores instead and upgrade them in the MF. Having 2 onyx cores drop takes far less time than having 1 lodestone drop.

In both cases you’re personally and legitimately farming them without using the TP. Both ways are far superior to brainlessly farming the same mob for 10 hours.

In my view, combat is the weakest part of this game

I’m always laughing when people take one of the strongest points in the game and claim it’s the weakest.

GW2 has a really solid combat system that can be expanded upon, but is already the best in the genre. I totally support making it even better, but I don’t support an overhaul for the worst.

Are there any plans to remove overdone memes?

Are there any plans to remove overdone memes?

Memes have an expiration date. They are often repeated ad nauseam by annoying kids who think that everytime someone mentions a random game such as tic-tac-toe, you lost it. It is not funny after a while. So what’s the expiration date on memes you ask? The second time you hear it….

When I place a healing turret, I hear “dispenser set”. It wasn’t funny the first time, because it wasn’t the first time. It was actually the hundreth time in various completely unrelated settings. This sentence should not, under any circumstances pop up in a videogame, let alone ever 40 seconds when I pop my heal.

Even worse is changing pets. Of course I do this every 20 seconds to keep the cooldown up. Every time I hear “I choose you” which wan’t funny the first time because it wasn’t the first time. I was bored of that meme after a thousand times which was 5 years ago. It didn’t even give me a smile anymore in GW2.

I’m actually muting the game because of this. The game has such good audio, yet the overdone memes on virtually every class (warrior is guilty too!) means I simply can’t hear the game lest it breaks my immersion. OK some 4chan trolls may love these things, but most of us aren’t 4chan trolls. Most of us actually want a healthy, fun game without trolls.

So …. Any plans to remove those boring and overdone memes? An option to turn of all audio with the flag “meme” would be much appreciated.

Use omnomberry bars
Do AC all three
Do a fractal run

3 hours, 8 gold. Buy yourself the lodestones.

or run TP and get the drops there. They drop fairly often, about 1 every 2 runs. It’s not the easiest dungeon though but good luck.

or farm onyx cores and upgrade them. You may or may not find that two cores are easier to farm than 1 lodestone. I don’t know but … good luck.

Rewriting Trahearne + Caladbolg

in Personal Story

At the very least I agree on moving the titles on Trahearne and you. Even if you keep the entire rest of the storyline and only rewrite accordingly, player as marshall and trahearne as second-in-command, everything would change. As a player you would feel like the master of a triple army while the story can still revolve around Trahearne cleansing Orr under your command. Brilliant suggestion OP.

Also, new voice actor for Trahearne. The original one is more suited for a wizard like Isgarren.

The real value of gold?

in Black Lion Trading Co

The point of this post was largely to highlight the absurdity of how gold, the currency, is valued against gold, the commodity.

It seems to have gone over most people’s heads.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seigniorage

A gold coin could be made from anything, irrelevant whether it’s gold, messing or yellow plastic. There a difference between the name “gold coin” and the name of the material it’s made of, in this case “pixels”.

Even in real life, most gold coins weren’t actually pure gold coins. Gold is soft and easily wears if used for daily transactions. As such, almost every coin was alloyed with copper or silver. Anything over 18 carats gold, or 75% pure, is not suited for coinage.

In the end, you have to trust the government, regardless of whether coins are made of gold or cotton. A corrupt government will sell you a 10 carat coin and tell you it’s gold, while a functional government will give you a piece of paper and tell you it’s worth 100 dollars.

What to buy with 800 gems

in Black Lion Trading Co

Personally I recommend bank space and/or character slots.

Do not listen to the people who recommend buying gems with gold … in the end, you buy gems to support a good game. That’s the main reason. I have 1400 gems I don’t do anything with atm but that’s totally fine with me.

I’ve put in over $20 in gems and have the Digital Deluxe edition (from purchase, not gems) of the game. There is, however, a problem with me continually buying gems with real money and that’s that I have to go to school and have no source of income. I also have to provide food for myself, which puts me at a very, very little amount of extra money.

I understand, but you should understand that Colin, John, Rubi, Gaile….., their partners and their kids also need to eat. As such you should support people buying gems at all times, even if you won’t buy them yourself. This game has a monthly upkeep and if it’s not paid, it can and will shut down due to lack of funds.

Make sure to finish school, don’t spend too much time in the game, especially not during finals. That way you can buy anything you want (within reason). I just made the last payment for my car today, gems are cheap in comparison

Let’s say GW2 has 500,000 players.

That means Colin, John, Rubi, Gaile, their partners and kids have gotten $30,000,000 WITHOUT including Gem sales.

My maffs:
500,000[players] * [$]60 = [$]30,000,000

Which is next to nothing. Arena.net currently has 270 employees. At a very modest average salary of $3000, which is pretty low for top talent in the industry, that’s $810,000 every month or $9,720,000 per year. Considering the game has been in development for 5 years without any income, that is $48,600,000 of costs in salary just to ship the game. A low ball which does not include server costs, rental of office space, advertisement, expo costs etc etc etc.

I understand that $30,000,000 seems like a lot to a student, but in reality it’s pocket change. If Mike O’Brien doesn’t have $810,000 lying on his desk every single month, he can’t pay his staff. If he doesn’t have $3,000,000 saved up, he can’t go to PAX or E3. Those are very real figures.

And ANet has sold more than 500,000 copies of the game.

I was using 500,000 for a realistic view on how many sales had occured. 3,000,000 sales is 6x that many, so they have $180,000,000 to pay their staff. (Again, not including Gem sales.)

Honestly, I’d be willing to buy gems with cash if I wasn’t sitting on about $250 as total money for living expenses (minus rent) for the next three months.

I understand But you’re a student, don’t compare apples with oranges. I’m more than happy to carry some of your burden, after all this game is designed so everyone wins. You get cash shop stuff for gold, I get gold for gems. Together we keep the game alive, I can’t do this without you.

I used to live on the same kind of money. We’ve all been in that boat.

A new bag space will cost you 400 gems but is a waste since you still need to equip a bag and it is only one 1 character. Next up is a bank slot for 600, this is your best choice as it is account bound. Finally your extra character slot for 800, if you do not have 1 of each char then I would go for this, you get 5 bag slots instantly which you can put money in through playing to be 20 slots each so this provides you with the most slots, it does however mean you have 1 more alt to search through for items.

My personal preference would be a bank tab

Protip: bank expansion + 15 slot bag is cheaper than a 20 slot bag when buying the 400gems with gold. So if you’re upgrading a 15 slot bag, it may be more interesting to buy another one and put it in an additional bag slot. That’s both cheaper and more effective since you gain +15 slots for ~7g instead of +5 slots for ~15g
