Speaking of frustrating, the crap you guys take for the low RNG and exorbitant gem store prices has got to be as frustrating for you as the actual RNG and gem store is for us. How many players do you think you’ve lost over this? How many more are you willing to lose?
I presume they haven’t lost a whole lot. These “issues” are minor to non-existant for most players. Don’t take your own elitist situation as the norm.
If the gem store is the future of free games, I want to pay a sub again. Please give me the option to pay a sub so that I don’t have to farm for gear with the best stats. You can have a B2P game with a sub right? Just give me plain looking gear with the best stats. I’ll kittening pay you to not have to farm in your non-farming game. It’s better than dropping a couple thousand dollars in the gem store to get what I want.
The best gear in the game costs a few gold in total. Sure it’ll be plain looking as per your suggestion. The best gear in B2P games takes months of farming the same dungeon. I’d much rather stick with the current model.

Gathering: 5 minutes
Events: about 3-4 minutes totali’d love to know your secret for completing 5 events in 3 minutes and harvesting 20 resources in 5.
oh wait, there isn’t one.
but OP, mmos have always been about who can play the most wins. you’ll still get your amulet, but it will take longer and i don’t know why that bothers you. there has to be a balance between the people that play 30 min a night and the people that play 8h a day.
Isn’t a secret because everyone knows how to do that
5 minutes in Orr and you’ll have plenty of mithril // wood + doing a few dense events. You know I’m speaking the truth.
you avoided the events part. even if you jump around events, the vast majority take much longer than 3 minutes. you i’m speaking the truth.
No need for me to comment. Your answer is literally scattered on this board and youtube.

You don’t make any sense. If these people lose gold on “manipulating”, they’re actually not manipulating. I really don’t get what you’re trying to prove here but whatever it is, your arguments doesn’t hold water.
So you’re actually don’t understand how people “play” on TP. Or you do and just pretending.
Either way, there’s no point discussing this matter with you further. What really happens is more like a fraud and has no relation to the theoretical “market economy”.
Why would it be fraud? How do you even define fraud? You take things out of context, put some loaded term on it and then stop discussing when people burst your bubble. That’s not how the world works.
I don’t play the TP but I know fully well how it works. If you choose to ignore reality, people can and will exploit your delusions.
In the real world, prices are set by supply and demand.
Yup. Another proof of my theory.
It is only in imaginary theoretical ideal “free market” such a thing can exist.
Nor the reality, nor the game is ruled by this.Seems you’re kinda don’t have the necessary knowledge to assess the situation or you’re just playing dumb. Either way, I’m gonna ignore you in this thread from now on.
If you don’t agree with very basic, commonly understood economic principles such as supply and demand, there’s no further point in you contributing to this thread. Such basics are not up for debate at all and if you choose to ignore reality, no one can have a sensible debate with you.
Ignoring me won’t fix your daydreams and if you choose to ignore everyone who disagrees with you, you’ll find the RL and game world a very, very lonely place.

Maybe you can save money, and try to buy a newer cpu. first generation ones are pretty bad nowadays. I have 16gb ram, and even with 3dsmax + photoshop i’m not hitting the 50%.
I’m not upgrading my CPU unless absolutely necessary. It’d mean I’d have to take out my motherboard since my cooler is screwed on. At that point I might as well build a new PC entirely
My CPU isn’t the limiting factor, pretty sure of that.

The way it works now is absurd.
Lets do some maths.
4 characters: 4 necks wanted.
1 neck = 30 laurels, 4 necks = 120 laurels.
Maximum obtained in a month 38-41. Thats 4 months before you can equip 4 characters.
Some other math suggests that it takes 0 months to get 4 necks, an ascended neck can be obtained through the following items:
1 Glob of Ectoplasm
1 Mystic Coin
1 Triforge Pendant
1 Fractal RelicDo that once per character and you can easily get 4 ascended necks. If this seems like too much work, maybe 4 characters is too many to be concerned with getting ascended necklaces.
Can’t find background on this … is it true or a joke?
True. Check the triforce pendant on wiki.

If you undercut by 50g, he can’t buy you out since he’ll lose more than he can potentially make.
Losing even 100 gold doesn’t matter. Precursors are not the main source of income for them, it’s just a hobby.
As such, the price is dictated by the market which is the collective of both buyers and sellers.
Unless there’s a third party, that buys from sellers for low and then sells again for high. In the same TP. So you can’t justify that by “transportation fees”. And there’ll always be a demand for precursors, cause TP is the only way around the RNG.
You don’t make any sense. If these people lose gold on “manipulating”, they’re actually not manipulating. I really don’t get what you’re trying to prove here but whatever it is, your arguments doesn’t hold water.
You can influence the price by not buying it.
Now that’s really naive.
It actually isn’t
That’s exactly how an economy works. Buy and sell listings don’t mean anything if people don’t sign them. For all you know, it’s the buy orders that make the majority of precursor trades … That would be pretty normal if the collective market sentiment is that sell orders are too high.
If your precursor is too expensive .. don’t buy it. You have a choice you know…
You see, precursors are just the tip of the greater picture.
I actually don’t care about legendaries at all. I have more than enough gold to buy me consumables and the only things I want are not achieved with money.
But.
In some time this game will be really uncomfortable for new players, at the rate we’re going. Most current players have some steady income and some gold to keep up with the economy.
New players would not have such a luxury. Imagine trying to level crafting with 2x costs. Only to find that there’s no profitable recipes without the gathering grind.
Again … you don’t make sense. I didn’t spend more than a handful of silver on levelling my crafts because you get a lot of mats through map completion. As for making money out of crafting … that’s possible in every craft. Just do a bit of research. This is not a real problem, neither for new nor old players.
But you can continue to live in a dream world where prices are magically lowered just because you don’t buy anything.
Don’t be so silly to use a strawman like that. It makes you look stupid.
In the real world, prices are set by supply and demand. Demand for overpriced goods is low, which means prices will naturally come down. Monopolies eventually fall when other groups want a share of the profits. This has nothing to do with
me not buying things and neither is it magic. It’s a law called supply and demand. This law is always obeyed by everyone, including you and your manipulators.
So while you can live in an Orwellian dreamworld where you can depend on Big Brother to set all prices, I live in the real world where the players as a group decide what a precursor’s worth. And yes, I fully expect the game to mature a bit before the prices settle on something we can all agree on.

So what I currently have:
- i7 920, first generation.
- Nvidia 650 Ti
- 6 GB triple channel DDR3
- cruzer m4 SSD
- 3 monitors, 2 times 19" square and a 23" wide which runs GW2
Runs my game on high at 30 fps stable including WvW and LA.
Wondering whether it makes sense to upgrade to 12GB ram. Seems like way overkill and I feel like 6GB is currently enough. I don’t know for sure. Ram is dirt cheap anyways and if it makes a tangible difference, I would go for it.

Sure I can. Or rather … a.net could. By looking at log in numbers and completion of dailies of all sorts, they can make up some nice graphs. By doing so, they could design their content around a completion rate that 80+% of their playerbase falls into. Personally, I feel laurels are balanced around that. I am personally content with a slow yet steady gain of ascended gear. Maybe a.net could release this info in a blog, but that’d a bit optimistic
Turn it any way you want, but content has to be balanced around people who have 10+ hours of their day planned already. The kind of people that have gasp a job. People that have the disposable income to invest big amounts of money into games they rarely play. I’m thinking of the 30 years old father who takes his 4000 euro race bike to work two or three times a year. Just a thought experiment.
A lot of people have a job. But do you deserve to get more while doing less in an MMO because real life gets in the way? It takes me an hour or so to do the daily while leveling. Not a lot of time. Working people manage it. Working people also manage to run 1 fractal daily.
I don’t expect to get more, I expect to get the same in the long term. You can just get it faster. That means … no gear degradation through successive tiers and a consistent means to get all gear by playing a bit each day. Laurels do exactly that. The whole point is that a company should never scare away the people bringing in the dough. Those who play less are often more inclined to spend real money on their hobbies.
I can not count in the variables in this case. I have no info from Anet about how long an average person plays. It’s completely random. So I take the sole calculation of how many dailies and monthlies in laurels it takes and how much dailies it takes in Fractals.
Also a person working 9 to 5 can invest 3-4 hours a day on an MMO.
On a saturday or sunday they could. Maybe once a week when the wife is out on girls night. 10 consecutive days to get an ascended ring fast … impossible.
Even if I wanted, even if my girlfriend would allow me to ignore her for 10 days straight while she makes my sandwich, pours my drinks and preps my suitcase in the morning … there’s other things in real life that prevent this.
Don’t get me wrong. I love this game. I would play 4 hours a day if I could. But reality is a puppy. I can’t play that much. A day only has 24 hours. That’s plain physics and unless you’re Albert Einstein, you can’t change that.

Starting area vendors sell salvageable weapons for 40c. If you’re short a few at the end of the month, you can do it that way. The full track would cost you 2g but by playing the game you should get it for free.
Also, since crafting is a daily anyways, level one of your crafts and salvage everything you make. Easy.

3/ someone else could easily undercut them if cheaper is the correct price.
Well, no.
You don’t understand. These people don’t actually play the game. they spend all their free time refreshing the TP. The moment someone will try to undercut them, they’ll just buy out the cheap Precursor and then re-sell it for a high price.
You’re the one who doesn’t understand. Relisting an item at 800g incurs a 15% loss or 120g. If you undercut by 50g, he can’t buy you out since he’ll lose more than he can potentially make. When several people do so, getting the overpriced precursors sold is almost impossible for the manipulator without losing huge amounts of gold.
It’s true that Precursors are rare and should be expensive.
But currently TP prices are dictated by monopolists, not by people who actually aqurie those Precusrors. And that’s dumb.
A trade always has 2 people. If you don’t agree to the trade, simply don’t make it. Force these manipulators out of the market by not working with them. If you buy their items, you agree to their price. As such, the price is dictated by the market which is the collective of both buyers and sellers.
You can influence the price by not buying it.
To counter it Anet should either increase the amount of Precursors in-game (the so called Scavenge Hunt) or just make them less RNG in the long run (like making a Precursors cost 365 laurels or something like that).
Or you could just stop QQing and take action yourself. Depending on a.net is an admission of weakness. I don’t like people who depend on others to solve their own problems. If the house you want to buy is too expensive … don’t buy the puppy house. If your job is underpaid … don’t sign the contract or quit. If your precursor is too expensive .. don’t buy it. You have a choice you know…

It’s not the worst conversion. Sure there are RNG alternatives but this just sets a sure bottom line for the value of laurels. With high lodestone prices the value goes up. It may not always be the best one to go for, but at the very least, you know what you get which is not true for a weapon box.

Some people play the game and try to buy the precursor in a legit way.
Some speculate on TP, playing in spreadsheets, driving prices higher and higher, getting even richer and controlling the market with unhealthy amounts of gold.
Speculation is gambling. Someone who speculates loses money just as much as someone speculating on the slots machines in Vegas. What you really meant is people investing in underpriced goods and making money out of money. Which is a sign the economy is healthy. Such things are impossible in broken economies.
“Good economy”. Yeah right.
glad you agree.

Since the game came out 5 months ago, the price of precursors has risen about 100g a month (source gw2 spidy), more so even in the last two months. Right now precursors like the legend, dusk, and dawn are around the 600-700g mark, 100g more than they were at the beginning of january. When will it end?
The problem is that a few very wealthy people can completely control the market for precursors, and everyone’s progress towards a legendary is gated through this step. Extremely wealthy people can buy up all of a given precursor (for reference, there is a combined total of 12 dusks+dawns+legends on the TP), and resell them at whatever price they want to make a profit. And people will have to pay that price.
This is not fair, and it has to end now.
You’re making several glaring mistakes.
1/ you’re not required to buy a precursor from them.
2/ you’re not required to make Twilight or another expensive one. There are cheaper alternatives. If you want the Ferrari of legendaries, you pay the price.
3/ someone else could easily undercut them if cheaper is the correct price.
4/ you could make a precursor yourself in the Mystic Forge if you believe that’s cheaper than buying. You may find though that Dusk is pretty much priced correctly.
5/ you don’t even need a legendary weapon to begin with. A 2g exotic will do just fine. Better actually due to optimized stats.
Let’s be blunt here. You want a legendary, you don’t need it. Furthermore you’re not willing to spend a 1000g in the Mystic Forge so you complain about someone putting it up for 800g, probably making a loss in the process. Not only that, you only want the most expensive one, instead of going for something you might actually be able to afford.
Price manipulation only works if someone is willing to pay the higher price, which means the higher price was correct to begin with.
There’s a reason I don’t drive a Ferrari. There’s a reason I’m not going for Twilight.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
None of the suggestions here are very good. Anet has stated that their target is for 5% of the population to get legendaries. We are probably already past that number, the effort required to get a legendary really isn’t that much. Takes about 500 hours of play time to get.
Right now the only thing keeping people from making legendary weapons in mass is precursor and lodestone prices. Precursors will continue to rise in price until the average price to make one yourself is the same as the cost of the precursor. Right now the only precursors that actually reflect that price is Dawn, Dusk and The Lover. As people start going for their second and third legendaries some of the other precursors will start to rise in price as demand for them increases.
These communist suggestions of making everyone poor so you can have a precursor is sickening.
That last sentence sent my troll filter off the scale.
May I ask that, if you are going to claim percentages and other raw numbers (hours played) that you back those up by links to Arenanet quotes? Thanks.
That last sentence actually reflects my feelings entirely. Some people want everyone to be poor. Equal sharing of misery means no one is special. Communism at its best. I do not agree.
Precursors are fine as they are. Forced lowering of prices, such as through vendors, is just an envious way to hurt people who gambled on them and want to make a small profit. If you want one … Mystic forge is that way ==>

but can you count all of those variables in or do you take a number that’s accurate? Like I said I can’t count in the different number of variables because it’s different for every person.
If to count in the variables the number of days that takes to do the fractals might increase as well because what about casuals that only do a fractal daily only once every month? See how you can’t count in the variables?
Sure I can. Or rather … a.net could. By looking at log in numbers and completion of dailies of all sorts, they can make up some nice graphs. I’m counting if you only have 1 character running fractals (I will probably never get my alts up to level 10 because that would be tiring) and the rings that you need don’t drop (ran the daily 40 times now, only 2 times did I get any ring drops).
Dailies take max an hour a day to do. I know where you’re coming from, but it’s true that if you do the dailies for 50 days and both monthlies it will only take you 50 days.
I can’t make my argument any more honest because if to count in the days that people can’t even log in because they have real life to sort out the number can be any amount of days having in mind that every single human pretty much has a different schedule and a different amount of free time.
And yet you propose 21 days of grinding FotM as a honest alternative. It’s not.
The difference here is between people without a schedule, who can play fractals non stop. They could make a ring every third day. On the other hand you have people with a schedule. They can make a ring every month.
Not that I mind. I like a long term goal in my MMO, and I like putting in a bit of daily time towards a long term goal. A month of casual play per ascended sounds just right to me.
The only thing I’m asking from you is a bit of honesty. Your 21 days of FotM vs 50 days of laurels is not honest because both ends of the spectrum are vastly different. This lowers both the 21 days of FotM and raises the 50 days of Laurels.
I think you misunderstood me. I was defending the dailies saying that the time difference is not that big. I counted getting from level 1 to 10 as one day because if I counted it as 10 someone would have once again raged that I’m lying and it doesn’t take that long. So I took the smallest window of time that a nolifer would have to spend to earn a ring that he wants.
Well… this no lifer has two alts on scale 20. He can make a ring every 2.5 days. The casual who plays 4 days out of 7 needs 61 days to complete a single ring. And frankly, doing the same thing for an hour, 4 days out of 7 for two months … pretty addicted by all non-gaming standards.

it would be better to just put an npc to sell them…
100G for 1Hand and 200G for 2Hand
so they get 2 thing at once:
1) helps players that need precursors
2) hit hard speculators
If you would have said 400 and 600 I may have been inclined to agree, but frankly, you suggestion does not make sense and reeks of jealousy.

Inflation tends to effect much more than just the price of goods, though. It usually is coupled with increased wages to compensate for cost-of-living.
Thing is, the game doesn’t really pay you more for playing it now than it did months ago. You still get the same amount of silver for finishing a dungeon or event. Sure, the prices of some goods are going up, but those are almost entirely t6 mats (such as Lodestones), which are not readily available for just playing the game. You have to farm them with copious amount of Magic Find gear.
I found this very interesting when I analogised it with the real world example of rising cost of living compared with widespread wage stagnation. What this meant for the economy, I don’t know, since there is no cost of living in GW2. There are no basics.
More or less like this. In Belgium, wages are tied to the index, which means for the average person, inflation has no tangible effect. In Germany this leads to strikes every few years to demand a 10% wage correction (which is not an increase in wage!). Some employers do both, giving a wage correction with a personal extra % based on achievements. But these are mostly exceptions to the rule where inflation is mostly coupled to income.
Whether or not inflation is happening in GW2 is immaterial: at the end of the day, premium items are becoming harder and harder and harder to afford to your average player. When the price doubled from 200g to 400g, I shrugged it off and figured I’d get there eventually. But when the price doubles again to 800g, how on earth is your casual player supposed to keep up with that rate of cost increase?
They are some of the most rare items in the game. Thus, they are hardly targeted at “your casual player”. Who cares if Joe Schmoe can’t afford them? It is, in fact, a GOOD thing for Arenanet to make them impossible to attain for 99% of players. They are a carrot on a stick. Keep grinding those mats, suckers.
Why can’t you state that in a non-insulting way? Sure they’re carrots on sticks, but not impossible. It takes a year … sure. But I’m neither Joe Schmoe nor a sucker. I’m actually the person paying taxes for your RL welfare. I would imagine a base level of respect would be appropriate.

It might be natural, but this is a game. It’s supposed to make fun.
Is it fun to get less when you ask your friends/ guild to help you?
If you want to do everything solo, why do you play an MMORPG?
Play a single-player game if you want to, don’t try to ruin the fun for everyone else. Its not fun. You dont know what fun is, you think if everyone gets everything itll all be fun, its not. The fun comes from having more than someone else. Wether you know it or not, thats whats going on if you were honest about it. Obviously you dont know whats going on if you think everyone having everything is going to be fun for everyone.
False. Your definition is not about fun. It’s about envy, pride and greed.
While I’m not much of a christian, I still try to avoid these deadly sins. To me it’s impossible to have fun if at the expense of others. Jealousy and greed don’t lead to a fun gaming experience.

It will take me months regardless. But that’s not the point. People who do 4 easy FotM dailies a day get a ring every 2.5 days with virtually no effort. It’s a time sink but not more than that. For normal people who work 9 hours a day, it’s still 50 days (not counting all the days spent with friends, loved ones, family, other games etc etc).
So that makes the difference quite apparent. 2.5 days per ring for locust vs 50++ days for humans.
And that’s not sarcasm. Merely logging into the game can be a tremendous effort at days. Not that I want stuff for free, but when you claim a ring takes 10 days in fractals, you’re lying. And with 50 days through laurels, you’re lying too. Please state your arguments in an honest way, and people will respect you for it.

Makes no sense. The soil is completely salted from being under the sea for 250 years. It would take decades before anything could grow there again.

Because this is a game, not a job.
Why doesn’t tiger woods get a handicap when playing golf?
Why doesn’t Kasparov play with 7 queens?
Why doesn’t Usain Bolt get a Segway?
Why doesn’t Tom Boonen get a motorcycle?
Why doesn’t Michael Jordan get a larger basket?
Why doesn’t Real Madrid have 20 people on the field?
Why doesn’t Idra start at Lair tech?
Why doesn’t SK Gaming start with AWP?
These are all people and teams who spent the most time of everyone in their respective games. They all play by the same rules as me.

Do not agree. Mystic forge is gambling.
However dragon chest tokens would be more up my alley. A stack should cut it. But even then people will complain because they want a free precursor. No amount of making it easier will be enough.
Even though I cant fully agree with a 250 dragon tokens scenario, the base of this idea seems good. Something possibly also worth considering at least. I have a feeling that having to kill the dragons may end up in the proposed scavenger hunt in some way…
I know, I was doubting that 250 too. My first write up was 1000 but that seemed a bit too harsh. On the other hand … 250 is too few.
Currently, precursors destroy huge amounts of materials to make and that’s a good thing for this economy. A scavenger hunt should be a once-per-character thing, but even then … it should award a random one. Otherwise everyone goes for Dusk and sells it for Quip. On the other hand, people going for Dusk will get an aquatic one … There’s just no good way.
Time gating is the only real solution and killing 1000 dragons does exactly that.

Oh dear, not this again. Ok man, you were right and I’m sorry. I was wrong to say 1h per day. I’m sure many have worked out their unique spots and pattern that enables them to their dailies in under 30 minutes. Can we discuss about the fact that it still takes 20 days of uninterrupted daily logins which is the actual topic? What’s your Pro and Cons on this?
It does not take uninterrupted logins. You can spread them out. Your “fact” isn’t a real thing, it is an illusion you’re creating for yourself.
As such, discussing pros and cons about an issue that doesn’t exist, is irrelevant.
If you still have an issue about not getting gear yesterday, google content locust and read the first 4 links. There’s a very good reason why laurels are calender gated.

I love how this game punishes people who try to get stuff and instead rewards people who mostly ignore the objectives.

Taking a break from time to time would fix your problems
If you consume content at such a pace, you run into that kind of problems, in any game.

I facepalm everytime I hear somebody use the “nobody is forcing you…” argument. The arguement is a fallacy which in no way adresses the issues being presented for debate.
The argument is to show how silly it is to invent fallacious issues to create a non-existing debate.
There is no debate. There are no arguments. Only opinions. Your opinion is just as worthless as mine. No one ever complained Obsidian Armor cost a ton of money to make. You were never required to get it.

Just kill the mob and tell him to l2p so he can do the daily while actually playing.
If you really want to do it easy, got agro 5 drakes in Queensdale, roll into their breath attack. 5 dodges per roll. Too easy. That’s why I don’t do it

When it’s ready. Best time stamp ever since content is ready when released. I’d much rather they wait another month before releasing some part of the story that is properly fleshed out instead of a new traherp. Although I do want to see him killed in one of the early missions.

I read this buff only applies when it’s with your boons? Can someone confirm since I haven’t seen it in months, although it was there some time ago.
Any way to get it back?
Thanks

I’ve always had to grind it out, search it out, tick it off like some nagging list.
Perhaps you should reset your goals to something you do enjoy ?
He would most likely enjoy running a weekly-gated 40 man dungeon for months to get that one tier 200 ring.
His choice if running a few easy dailies for half a month is too much.

Actually … the added stat combinations are a very nice form of horizontal progression. It allows new stats into the game without completely upsetting the balance. As such, merely by introducing a new stat combination, completely new build opportunities pop up. It’s good for the game to introduce this slowly.
Most importantly, PVT tank and Pow/pre/crit glass cannon are in the game so at least the morbid cookie cutters are satisfied. All other stat combinations are interesting for niche builds that will slowly pop into the game. I consider that a good thing.

I don’t see anything wrong with time gating. In GW1 it took me almost a year to get my 20 slot equipment bag.
I’m skipping some dailies and some monthlies. No big deal. As long as ascended remains the top tier, I can just slowly gain whatever I want. I’ve got all the time in the world
