If you don’t focus so much on the 20 days argument, you could also say that playing sporadically for a month or 3 gives you at least an ascended item. The glass is half full.
I’m casual and this is my perspective. I don’t need my stuff yesterday. Next year would be just fine.

Short term: ascended stuff
Midlong term: crafting stuff
Long term: minis and tonic
Cash conversion: gear/crafting boxes.
There will be a day when everyone has the stuff they need from laurels. Because of that, these boxes exist to create a form of cash conversion. That’s smart thinking.

“I hope we’ve been clear that GW2 is not a game with virtually no stat progression in it like GW1 was. That’s why GW2 shipped with a higher level cap, and with a hard separation between PVE and PVP.
“In GW1 we never advanced the level cap through four campaigns/expansions. The game design didn’t allow for it. But GW2 was designed without those restrictions, and we’ve always expected that we will someday raise the level cap in GW2.”
-Mike O’Brien
Level cap increases are coming, folks. If you enjoyed GW1 for its level and equipment cap, I have bad news for you: Apparently they were only there due to technical/design limitations. GW2 bravely leads us into the revolutionary future of MMO’s without the restrictions of level caps (sarcasm)
Major mistake by MikeO and he should never have said such stupid words.
As such …
NO
GW2 has 60 levels too many as it is. While levelling can be fun the first time around, levelling for the sake of levelling is boring and pointless.
We’ve all been there, lvl 31 on an alt, wishing there was some instant 80 thing because I kittenly know the class at that point, no need to learn for another 30 hours. Levelling isn’t nearly as fast as it should, which is instant 80 (lucky it isn’t as bad as other games)

I don’t really get it. You guys seem to hate dungeons so much, yet I consider them the best content in any mmo. Dungeons are loads of fun and in GW2 they’re actually very accessible. In WoW this monthly would be Kill Ragnaros twice.

partyly snipped – post too long*
Well well, I’m complaining about people that are smarter and I believe commie propaganda. In McCarthy’s time I’d get prosecuted I guess.
Oh and since having money=smart it seems, or I see that being implied in your post…lots of world scientists are then dumb as a rock or what?
I would be prosecuted too, but that doesn’t mean you have to be even more stupid than McCarthy. Neither extreme right nor extreme left are working solutions. Both are proven to be disastrous.
3) You kinda underestimate people. Don’t know how to use TP? What’s a price, hurr, press random buttons on TP. But if they in general pay higher prices it’s ok eh? Yes, my stance is, flipping and price manipulations are lowering the wealth of players. Due to price fluctuations that occur anyways due to supply/demand there might be a time when you pay less that you would otherwise but in general you pay more (since it’s very hard to understand I’ll say it again: their increase of money from simply flipping a thing=other peoples decrease in money ).
Money isn’t the only important thing. A “flipper” invests his time and gets paid for that.
1/ seller sells fast
2/ buyer buys fast
3/ flipper earns money.
Time equals money, remember. Everyone wins.
5) Every single flip needs to cover 1 more time the expenses (listing fee, tax) + margin of the flipper. So that is an automatic price increase of the flipper (if all goes well and the price doesn’t plummet for somekind of reason).
And that’s the second thing a flipper invests. Risk.
1/ buyer doesn’t have a risk cause he can buy lowest
2/ seller doesn’t risk anything since he sells to highest
3/ flipper takes all the risk for both transactions and earns money through that.
Both seller and buyer don’t want to take a risk by putting up an offer, and pay that lack of risk in cash. Everyone wins (except the flipper if his trades don’t go through)
The only person who can lose money and time is the flipper. For this time and risk investment, both buyer and seller give him a bit of coin.
As a buyer/seller you always have the choice to put up your own offers. By doing so, you always circumvent the flippers, but at the added cost of time and risk. Are you willing to invest both?

It is just a spread forced by us, but you can look at it as a fee too.
Is there a reason gem>gold is over an exchange instead of through buy and sell offers? I wonder what the formula behind this is, in GW1 the traders were known to have ridiculous prices because the formula made no sense.

Farmers do not create inflation.
More supply to fulfill demand never creates inflation.
Actually, that’s not right; farmers generate gold and excess gold in the economy is the big thing that will result in general across the board price level increases over time. An excess of money supply devalues the currency, and by devaluing the currency, you end up with increasing price levels. Farming is like printing money in a real economy.
You seem to adhere to the austrian school which only sees money as a source of inflation. This is obviously not true and the austrian school is largely ignored, just like communism isn’t a real economic theory but rather fantasy.
Increased money can lead to lower prices. Videogames have never been cheaper.

Actually about 15% of the population finds making money very fun, irrelevant of the uses of that money.
Problem appears when the remaining 85% finds the ways the first 15% uses that money as not fun for them.
It is not a single player game. gathering obscene amounts of money by some affects not only them, but everyone else as well.
In real life this is usually a self-regulating process – if a small number of people gets too wealthy, it can lead to a “forced redistribution of wealth” (depending on scale and method, called robbery, riots, revolution, tax increase or nationalization).
This is not possible here.
False. In real life, forced redistribution of wealth never happens. The only possible thing is destruction of wealth. CCCP tried, Belgium tried, France tried resulting in an iconic actor becoming Russian. It is almost impossible to steal wealth from rich people without destroying this wealth in the process.
You may ask rich people. Maybe, if you’re a respectable guy, they may give you a good job with a matching salary (I did). You might even get someone to simply give you a million dollars for a youtube video (happened some time ago). But you can’t steal it.

No, it’s not perfectly normal. The other mats didn’t go down by 320g. This is market manipulation at it’s best because now they know there will be no precursor changes until February.
Do you complain a Ferrari costs 300 000 euros or do you agree that the most luxurious and pointless stuff in life and games are simply expensive?
While this price manipulation might not be particularely fun, you should understand that it only works if people agree to the price being set. If the price was not correct before (too low), the higher one is actually correct! For the price of 800g, I wish you luck making a precursor in the MF.
Those who gamble on precursors obviously want to make a profit. Are you declining it to them? You agree on other people losing lots of money for making the precursor you don’t want to make yourself?

I don’t get this. Are you just running solo against enemy zergs? It’s not that difficult, I’ve done every monthly and the WvW kills is always the first thing done, usually in the first day (occasionally the second if it’s a slow night).
Ye. WvW is by far the easiest monthly out of the possibilities. Get a group of 5 on mumble, steamroll a few unorganized zergs. Done.

Part of the promise about Ascended items was that they would be available in other ways than through the Fractals dungeon. This was presumably to accommodate players who prefer doing something other than dungeons. This is the first monthly after the new laurel-bought Ascended items have been introduced. Given all of the above, I find it ironic that one of the requirements is dungeon participation.
Can you spot the 5 glaring flaws in your non-argument yourself or should I point them out to you?
Go ahead, knock yourself out.
1/ you have to do dungeons, not fractal dungeons at high level
2/ you can even do a single path 5 times. I would recommend AC exp1
3/ laurels aren’t even needed for ascended. There’s other ways
4/ It was not to accommodate players who don’t do fractals, it was to vary the game in general. Don’t feel so entitled, this update wasn’t specifically for you.
5/ finding a dungeon group is not difficult. It takes less than 5 minutes to get into any dungeon path you want.
So I have no idea why you’re even QQ or what you’re QQ’ing about. Some people want to remove monthly from the monthly so they can do the monthly. Well … they’re a set of objectives you can go for. No one is forcing you, not even to get ascended items.
As of yet, monthly/daily are the easiest way to get ascended. Not only that but the current monthly is probably the easiest we’ve seen since launch. Apparently puppykittenly easy isn’t nearly easy enough for some people.

I’m not pleased to still see dungeons on there, but at least WvW’s gone.
You’re complaining about anything on the list. You’d rather have a “log in this month once” monthly? Then you’d complain it costs bandwidth.
You are not required to do monthlies. They just nudge you off the beaten path. You may actually like dungeons?
This list can be done in 5 hours or so, barely a daily let alone monthly.

Well … this is true for a lot of items, especially the trinket slots. Before ascended there wasn’t even an exotic backpack for example, and there’s still no exotic breather. Across the board, stats are “missing”. As far as traits go, some stat pairs don’t always make sense.
But I don’t see that as a bad thing necessarily. It means you’ll have less options to build a min-max character, which, overall, is better for the game. Balancing and designing around min-max is very boring. In many cases, reducing options increases creativity.
While I agree with you to some extent, you wrote that the game is still lacking some cases, and that’s the point of this topic
Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. One of the best books in the french language was written without the letter “e”. Adding limitations to gear choice makes for more original builds.

And yet, this is not what people want. The succesful model this game was marketed to follows was:
Guild Wars 1’s Power “Curve” (HP)
== Attainability
== Easy < —-——— > Hard
Year 1: = 1 2 3 4 5
Year 2: = 1 2 3 4 5
Year 3: = 1 2 3 4 5This is not what I gleaned from the 2010, 2011, or 2012 marketing, but I’ve noticed that everyone expecting a completely flat gear plateau were 100% GW1 players. I knew from the first beta that was not the case.
I played GW1 (for about 8 months per campaign) and the stagnant gear was one of my biggest gripes. Apparently Anet agreed.
First of, you can’t glance such things from a beta ending at level 30.
Second, a.net agreeing with you shows just how disastrous a vocal minority can be for a company.
The “stagnant” gear in GW1 was is greatest feature. It was the unique selling point for the game. I still hope I can say the same about GW2 in a few years. Sure it’ll take time to get full ascended but once you have it, your character is really done.
It feels good to complete a toon. In GW1 you could really beat the game. That’s a unique feature amongst MMOs.

You laugh, brush it off and play a GAME. The thrill of the gamble is in knowing you could lose everything
At least you gamble in a videogame instead of in real life. Since you have a family, that’s the smart thing to do.
That being said. If you could keep your gambling under control in GW2, you may try this thing called gems to gold. You could also just start playing again. Doing AC or high fractals gives quite some gold. 77g can be made in 2 days if you take out holiday
As for the girlfriend … buy her a gem card.

I ‘love’ this game. Some days I feel like I’m the only one. I also like some other new games, and when I visit those forums, again, I feel like the only one. It’s not specific to this game, it’s a disease that seems to have spread around and gotten ‘really’ noticeable in MMO forums over the past, say, 3 years. It’s unfortunate.

Like the title says … how to get into some casual sPVP as an 80% PVE//20% pvp player. What should I do to enjoy my time most? In GW1 I played RA/FA/AB mostly like all other scrubs
Managed to grind until R3 in tombs. Always liked it most, too bad it wasn’t a random arena.
So where/how would I enjoy my time most without getting roflstomped too much and at the same time gaining a few rewards that may be useful in PVE.

Well that’s the good thing about using hard pink dyes. There’s a lot of varieties and they’re cheap. As a man I’m thinking … the more breast cancer awareness, the better.

I’m not saying nothing against Breast Cancer! I think it’s a huge problem also. I was saying that i will believe that the reason that makes you wear pink is exclusively Breast Cancer Awareness! ^^
Uhm partly. The less breast cancer, the better. Both in terms of lesser human suffering and more human happiness. It leads directly to a better world for men and women alike. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Also partly because hard pink is just a fashionable colour.

Both of your solutions make it way to easy to get a precursor. So no, I do not believe either of them are the answer.
Honestly, if they were going to change it (I do not think they should), it would be an implementation that is not in the game already.
well MOST players got their precursor easily…
From the infamous mystic forge bug, to RNG or to market manipulation, or glitched dungeons farming.
Last but not least real moneys
I would bet that at least 98% of players with a precursor ends up in aforementioned groups…..
I would bet that 98% of statistics are completely baseless accusations by people without a clue.
As it stand, all materials are becoming cheaper, which simply moves the cost elsewhere. Demand for precursors is rising. It doesn’t take an economist to know why these are becoming more and more expensive.
I agree there should be a consistent, surefire way to create a single precursor per character. It should not be account bound. It should take an insane amount of time to get though, like 300 laurels or a gift made of 8 dungeon/wvw gifts.

Now it seems like Ascended gear is purely just BiS, and infusions are going to trend towards more of the “GET MORE GOLD/MF!” There’s no need for agony resist if you ignore the fractals (which, the more I play them, the more tired of them I become.)
Which, conveniently, removes MF as a replacement stat from items. Unfortunately, a.net still missed an opportunity there.
As for Fractals … I kinda like the idea. Most fractal instances are pretty fun, the boring part is in repeating them ad nauseam. By not overdoing them, I know I can keep them interesting. I’m planning to get my infused back and ring so I have +10 AR. That’s enough to enjoy fractals up to 20.

Loot rates aren’t nerfed for 99% of the player base and a public apology is not necessary. Don; t give in to the vocal minority.
I would, instead, make a blog post about the specific mechanics of DR and a breakdown of the players affected.
- 7% are bots
- 1% with an average /age of 16 hours a day since launch
- 92% not affected
I would also make a percentile graph of players vs time spent in game on average.
- 50% plays less than 2 hours a day on average
- 40% plays between 2 and 6 hours a day on average
- 8% plays between 6 and 9 hours a day
- 2% plays more than 9 hours a day
With a blog post about how A.net tries to cater to the 90% that play less than 6 hours a day.

I think I will make about 3g from about 800k karma on the junk.
I doubt inflation is coming. The money supply is not the only thing at play. There’s an increase of supply on a lot of stuff as well.
Indeed. Those boxes drop a lot of T6 stuff on the TP which leads to a decrease of prices. All this T6 will also lead to an increase of money sinked through trades. I actually think the unID object just makes a player feel richer while the box on average sinks more money than it creates.
Just my guess though.

i was excited when i read about this change .. because im always forced to play with people that are low lvl “family friends blah blah”
i spent most of yesterday running around low lvl areas most below 20 with people and i think i found only one lvl 80 item and one 76 rest was all lvl 5 to 15 crap … i dont see much of a changeIt’s not meant to give you lvl 80 loot all the time. The lower the zone you are playing in- the more DR you get on your max level loot. If not it would be possible to plow through low level zones, 2-hit mobs and get the same loot as a more difficult zone, but more efficient. If people are grinding which one would they pick? What they have done is simply tuning it up a bit, it’s not a U-turn.
There is still no “new” added benefit to playing in lower level zones. I am still getting the same amount of level specific gear i was getting before the patch…which was rarely.
Wrong. In Queensdale you were not supposed to get any lvl 80 loot. I got several greens yesterday which is a very clear improvement.

“Study Wow’s Alterac Valley”
That is the worst idea I have seen in this game. Alterac valley is kitten. I played quite afew timeas and everytime the players just drive past each other and spend the entire time doing pve instead of pvp. Do you seriously want to study this to get good idea because should just be a pve dungeon because that what is mostly is.
Used to be pretty epic in Vanilla. WvW is what Alterac Valley should have been.
Some of the things that WvW could borrow from AV are:
- summoning the huge elemental
- air/ground support
- a destroyed wall should remain destroyed for a while
The summoning of shaman, and allying to centaur doesn’t seem to have a real effect on the game. Getting those things to join you should really turn the tide of the battle, with a steady stream of veterans attacking a key supply camp and tower for your team.

Hypothetical thread. I always see the same names pop up in those ‘I want this game to be WoW’ type of threads. I’m pretty sure CM department has tools to break these threads down into numbers such as ‘real number of posters’, number of unique IPs and correlating these to a subset of elitist keywords (mounts, raids, progression, trinity…). By doing so, I would make it a priority to filter out the vocal minority and focus on what the players really want.
I wouldn’t cater to GW1 fans either (even though I’m a huge GW1 fanboy). This game is not GW1, it is not WoW. As a lead designer it would be up to me to make sure GW2 remains unique.
