GW2’s TP is by a wide margin less effectively manipulated than the other games mentioned in this thread.
Ah, for the very first time that I know off, Anet admits that there is indeed manipulation going on.
Next step: make them see how wide spread it is!
Final step: do something.
Unless, as mentioned before, these manipulated prices are okay for Anet, because it forces people to buy gold -mostly with gems, I hope- and thus lets Anet make more money.
You’re stating that as if it were a problem that GW2 has the least manipulation of any MMO. There’s nothing to be done.
The gem conspiracy has been beaten to death, but is actually not relevant for the discussion. You can make 2-4 gold per hour by playing the game. Stuff that’s expensive is just a long term goal, no gems necessary.

How many tiers does WoW have now? 16? 17?
No.
And where will ascended gear be at in 8 years?
Hopefully still at exactly the same stat level as it is right now. Anything else will not be taken lightly by the majority. Stat levels really need a top tier as a constant to keep casual players in the game. Having a definitive end goal is what makes this game attractive, even if it takes years to get the coveted legendary.

- Dragon Battles
- Going deep under a Kodan Sanctuary
- Flamethrower

No they wont. Because WvW is more than zerging around. 3% will add you 40 atack. Really, are u seriously crying aboutg 3%? So many things to ask for improvement and you cry about this.
GG
Because all other topics aren’t as critical to the game philosophy as this one. The unique selling point for GW2 was exactly this, no increase in gear cap. The vast majority of players joined because of that one imperative. Because of that, this is the most important issue, the cornerstone of the game.
This isn’t called crying. It’s called caring for the game we supported for 5 years, the game we bought without even knowing the release date. If there’s a vocal minority … heck it just means the majority has to be even more vocal about it. Especially for such a crucial issue as this “mere 3%” which is most certainly a big deal.

Multi-boxing is allowed as per Gaile Gray’s statement. Why do you want to a refund and where did you find this faulty information?
@domxnik: 600€ isn’t that much money
It’s not even half a monthly salary. If you go to a club, the average woman has more in clothing on her body, even if it isn’t a whole lot of fabric. A single repair for a car can be double that amount and 600€ barely covers the rent for a two-room apartment. 600€ is merely the pedals for a proper race bike.

This is my first time playing a mmorpg…and was not aware of the “standard” meaning of “unique”…and those two rings are quite different, one is defense and other is offense; being a pure offense, defense is the last thing i want on my items. Just saying before you buy should be a tiny toggleble warning.
Lesson learned. Everyone has to learn the terminology, usually at a price.
I understand that it’s annoying but we all have to learn the rules of the games we play. Take chess as an example. When I capture en passent, or castle, sometimes the player opposite to me has no idea what I’m doing. I will explain and teach him, but I will not take back my move.

Ye I want to go to Cantha too but that doesn’t mean my character wants to. There’s plenty of other things that take priority. Once Kralkatorrik is dead, an invasion by Palawa Joko is almost inevitable.

As a mechanic, obviously not. Not any more than the 5 man dungeon limit has a lore based reason. But most dungeons have at least some kind or lore connection, mostly hinted at through the title.
Then again, spelunking doesn’t need a lore based reason. Being there for fun’s sake is more than enough. It is a game for Melandru’s sake.

How can 3% be that much ? In spvp they dont scale. In Pve, who cares anyway ? Its Pve… And WvW is open world, you wont be 1vs1 unless you are dumb. So really, whats that 3% higher? No more drama please, i agree that anet has sold out and thier model of the game just made us all wrong but you guys are making too much drama.
Because given equal skill, the guild group with the best gear wins, even if it’s only 3% increase. A 30 man zerg of Guild A will win against a 40 man zerg of Guild B because of this. That’s not an acceptable scenario if this gear is gated in a completely unrelated dungeon.
3% is quite a lot.

So you’re comparing 2013 GW2 economy to 2005 vanilla wow economy, conveniently ignoring the economic improvements I detailed which came in ensuing expansions.
In Vanilla there was an active crafting market with unique recipes that could craft interesting stuff outside dungeons. Crafting was at its best in Vanilla which is why I took it as an example.
Crafting in TBC and WotLK revolved around BOP recipes. The markets were a disaster because not a single recipe was profitable. There were far less unique or rare recipes compared to Vanilla.
AFTER vanilla (burning crusade), they increased the sources in the way I mentioned in my post (and adjustments were made in minor cycles going beyond that as well — endgame crafting mats were made available for badges, and then even honor, to cap how high they could be manipulated), but do conveniently and intellectually-dishonestly ignore that fact.
After Vanilla they destroyed all the flavor crafting had and took away the cool and fun recipes. They might as well have removed all crafting from the game. Even the Engineering chopper was mostly based on vendor items so there wasn’t even any profit margin …
So, please explain to me why ANet in 2013 is choosing to make mistakes rectified by blizzard, the least imaginative gaming house, 7 years earlier?
Quite the opposite. I don’t want A.net to make the same mistakes Blizzard made in the last 7 years. Crafting in Vanilla WoW was interesting and profitable with several recipes that couldn’t be found in dungeons. For the sake of comparison, I take the best moment of crafting in WoW which is Vanilla.

There has to be better stats because a vocal minority kept whining to turn this game into that other game. Arena.net made a fatal mistake and is now on damage control.
I do like the way it’s implemented, with only a few pieces every few months. But still … it shouldn’t have been like it is right now. If they just had one piece of ascended at release, it would have been a big difference.
And yes, a 3% increase in stats really is a big deal in a game that’s supposed to have an even footing.

@Colonel:
100% a map is not mandatory, that’s right. I WANT TO DO IT.
Jumping Puzzles are not mandatory, but some of them I HAVE TO DO, because them being incomplete prevent me from stuff I WANT TO DO, in this case, 100% a map.
Saying I may as well skip on 100% a map just because 1 out of 10 vistas happens to be an elaborate fully fledged jumping puzzle, while the other 9 are a simple low-grade platformer is – ILLOGICAL. Forcing players to play Mario while I wanted to play GuildWars2 is not right in my book.
No apology incoming, Colonel.
Next thing you realize you have to go into WvW so you start complaining about the “required pvp”. Your idea is dismissed because the suggestion is not rational. Thread closed.

GW2’s TP is by a wide margin less effectively manipulated than the other games mentioned in this thread.
In WoW you can raid to get something equivalent to the best on the trading post (in a predictable way – double-digit% drop rate off a specific raid boss, or tokens that took approximately 2 weeks to acquire), and their legendaries are associated with actual player experience.
Thus, the price of endgame materials on their auction houses seldomly exceeds about 2x the average newly capped toon’s wallet. (and that’s only for exceedingly high demand items — like weapons or armor universally useful to at least half the specs in the game, and with capped stats in combinations not found on boss loot tables)
Compare this to precursors.
I believe I’ve proven this very wrong.
Reminds me of the “mission accomplished” sign back in 2003.
Vanilla WoW: Pristine hide of the beast and Foror’s compendium on Dragon Slaying beg to differ. These were prohibitively expensive to players without a guild to back them. Crafting materials weren’t better, for example Water Essences, Arcanite Bars and Nexus Crystals.
Some of that stuff was almost required as a precursor to raiding, Arcanite reaper for warriors, pristine hide for crit mages/locks and Foror’s for every single tank.
Not to mention a newly capped toon was looking towards a 900g grind for his epic mount….
Compared to precursors which are entirely optional …
Your post is factually incorrect.

I don’t understand either. They die with 1 hit, take ages to rez and don’t contribute at all. Following improvements are necessary:
1/ up the survivability so they don’t die from eg Kohler-pull unless they start tanking
2/ nerf their damage to oblivion. These NPCs are there for flavor. No damage also means no agro which counters any problems with 1/
3/ give them a combo field or party buff so their presence is noticeable
4/ up their down HP so they don’t go into defeated unless neglected by players

I grinded out the 420g that it cost for me to buy my Dawn. Why can’t you?
I did it hardcore over a week and a half. If you don’t want to grind you can get it in a month.
A lot of people can only play a few hours a day, if that, and not necessarily everyday. Let’s say you can play two nights during weekdays for an hour, then 2 hours on sat and sun for a total of 6 hours a week. At your estimated 3.5g/hour, it would take 20 weeks to get a precursor. And that’s only half the battle.
So is there anything wrong if alot of people(casuals) take 10 months to make legendary(going by those estimates)?
Except in n those 10 months the price will double, so they will still be exactly where they started.
Could also be the prices halve in those ten months and casuals will be greatly rewarded for playing as intended. You simply don’t know. It is actually the polar opposite.
Several improvements to precursors have already been announced, and in 10 months you can bet dollars to dimes that a form of scavenger hunt is ready and implemented. Precursors will become less of a problem as the game matures.
People stare themselves blind on dusk, while there’s plenty of precursors under the 700g line.

As most of you may not realize, graphics have plateaued in the last 5 years for good reason. Graphics use up the biggest part of the development budget, leading to very poor quality gameplay.
It is no longer cost effective to spend loads of money on marginal improvements to graphics which are already very good. Much better to improve on gameplay aspects which are actually important.

As far as the WoW combat system goes it can be summarized because of 1 mechanic:
Global Cooldown or GCD.
Every skill leads to a global cooldown of 1.5 seconds (except rogue which has 1.0s). This effectively means you have 1.5 seconds to think over the next action you’re going to take. That’s a lot of time, for most serious gamers it’s far too much. At an effective 40APM (actions per minute) it is one of the most boring games on the market because of the GCD.
If you compare to StarCraft and Diablo 2, two brilliant games by Blizzard, you see that a good StarCraft player has 150++APM while any half decent Diablo 2 player doesn’t stop clicking for half a second. These games are a lot of fun, interesting to watch and need intelligence to play.

Can we stop dropping the WoW clone on every single idea that’s close related to WoW?
Just because another game has done something doesn’t mean GW2 can’t do it.
Actually … GW2 can’t just plainly copy WoW. WoW already exists, cloning it is a bad idea. Other games tried and they invariably failed. As such, steering clear of WoW is the only possible way to have a healthy competitor on the market.
WoW was the best MMORPG for a long, long time for a reason. They had great ideas, and sadly it seems like Blizzard is killing WoW in favor of their new game Titan.
Wrong. It was the most popular game, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best. Your logic means McDonald’s and Coca-Cola is the best food in the world. Yet a lot of people dislike it because it’s very much the worst.
Take out the dodge gimmick, and what’s the real difference between WoW combat, and GW2 combat?
For starters … you can move while casting spells. Second, skills require skill and intelligence to use properly, not merely a rotation and gear. Third, dodge IS in the game, it’s not a gimmick and it makes a huge difference.
So while we can obviously learn from WoW for the better, don’t forget we can also learn for the worst. WoW isn’t universally good, neither is it completely bad. But in case of doubt … avoid it and make sure GW2 keeps it’s unique selling point.

GW2 is probably the most populated mmorpg atm.
so if GW2 is “dead”, how would you describe other fairly populated mmorpg’s?Err… Got any statistics to back that up?
It’s not dead, but we have no idea how many people are playing this compared to…well…compared to the big-shot WoW.
WoW is a statistical outlier and should be ignored.
I my yearly income is about 0.001% of Warren Buffet’s. Yet I do earn good money.
MMOs are healthy at about 300k active population at peak moments. Pretty sure gw2 tops that easily. The absolute worst thing in MMOs is staring at WoW and not taking action. Eve online learned that having a fraction of WoWs subscribers is more than plenty, and doesn’t change it’s game into a panda fantasy MMO with mounts.

ArenaNet is really stretching it when they say “January Update”. Sure, the 28th is January, but geese, you are cutting it so close it may as well be called the February update. Every time I read “this month”, I cringed.
Dear lord, you never learned management speak did you?
“This year” means “fiscal year” which usually runs until April. So if a company promises to release something “this year”, they may actually mean April 2014.
If a company says “14 days” it means workweeks of 5 days each, totally 3 weeks.
“Tomorrow” can be anything in a 48 hour timeframe depending on your time difference to Hawaï.
“Next week” means “Sunday of the next full week” which can be almost two weeks if it’s Monday.
“This month” is a crystal clear statement that the patch will be released on the 31st of January at 23:59. I’m actually surprised they managed 28th. But hey, … a.net is different.

Yep, it’s another quick fix idea from Anet that will only make things worse in the long term. Many people on the forums have posted very good suggestions on how to fix the population/cap problems.
Unfortunately, Anet as usual seem to be happy going for the quick and easy option rather than something that will provide a tangible, lasting solution.
This is a lasting tangible solution because the players can regulate it without any guidance or interference by the developer. It is a much cleaner solution compared to free transfers or server mergers. This system gives the players the control they need.
Even in 10 years, if the game is still alive, this system will insure that PVE always remains a viable option. Players always find each other when needed. GW2lfg.com proves exactly that.
