Why would you even think that?
Don’t be paranoid. A.net aren’t nearly as ban-happy as some people claim them to be.

Hello
I have sent an appeal on 2 occasions because of unjust cultural infractions. I posted twice about something that’s entirely normal in Europe but apparently can’t be discussed in a mature manner on the other side of the Atlantic.
In one case I even double checked the ToS to make sure my post would be valid on the boards. In my opinion it was. Apparently consuming vast quantities of alcohol is just fine cfr. the drunkard title but other legal drugs are taboo? How am I supposed know that?
The other was about Sylvari exploring their sexuality in a thread that was about Sylvari exploring their sexuality … Apparently hitting nails on heads, while on topic in a thread with a very clear title will result in an infraction … To put in perspective, yesterday I discussed the exact same topic with someone I just met because it is just not taboo anymore here.
Because I refuse to take responsibility for not knowing American cultural limits, I sent two appeals for those two cultural infractions. I never received a response, neither a confirmation nor revocation of my infraction.

Nerf duration and buff detection … any form of detection although damage numbers and, especially, a slight ripple would fix the problem.
No profession should realistically be invisible more than a few seconds at a time. Stealth is a broken mechanic by design and almost impossible to balance.

I’ll probably regret this but make the them harder weather it’s more things in each tier or objectives themselves . I can guarantee you by the end of tomorrow I’ll have events done and i already have crafting and vets leaving only dailies to get my monthly .
Complaining is too easy.
Look … it is impossible to do good. Whatever is in the patch notes, not withstanding it’s a kittenly critwall of text of improvements, every line is considered bad by the vocal minority.

Add trinity….
Add raid dungeons…..
This.
I miss tanks, healers and cc that lasts longer then 2 seconds. I also miss interesting encounters that the trinity can provide. Raids should be in also but no more than 10 man.
I don’t miss the boring encounters which trinity leads to

Funny. Good to know regardless, I guess some people want to farm vets instead of having them anyways by doing regular content. I mean … 40 events almost guaranteed comes with 100 vets.

Ecto is a currency for Arenanet.
Adding more uses for it is Anet way of keep its purchasing power since “coin” keeps losing value due to expansion of supply.
If you want to keep your purchasing power you trade your coin into ectos.
Think of ecto as real life gold – its a natural occurring currency that has other uses. The difference is that ecto has an infinite supply where gold is finite in Earth soil, so Anet needs to add sinks to remove ectos and keep its worth.
Except real life gold has no purpose except as a hard currency. Gold usage is distributed as follows:
25% industrial use
50% investment purposes
25% jewelry
For a commodity that’s supposed to keep it’s value that’s insane. If a big player, say the United States, realizes that it’s gold has no purpose except for being gold, they’ll dump it on the market. UK and Russia will follow and a troy ounce will cost 50 dollars. Bubble waiting to happen.
Compare with a real commodity with a purpose such as iron:
25% replacement of rusted iron (iron sink!)
60% industrial use
15% investment purposes
Now there’s a commodity that holds its value extremely well. The only difference between gold and iron is scarcity. But inherently, gold is worthless and iron has a real purpose AND a sink.

How about being able to buy a stake in a gold mine for say, 5000 gems, that generates 1g per 24h an account hasn’t logged on. Stacking to 7g max and only to be collected by doing a daily (to avoid afk accounts). Furthermore the share could to time limited to 1 year of profits.
It would be useless for people who play actively but it would allow for people who have <gasp> a life to skip a few days. The daily is all good and dandy but there’s days where I’d be happy to touch any computer at all.
I love GW2. I would be playing it 24/7 if there weren’t important things in life. Take it any way you want but videogames are a past time and therefor last on the ladder of priorities. I don’t want to put the work in GW2 because it’s not a job.
Having shares in a gold mine would allow me to actively skip a daily in favor of those important things without having GW2 in the back of my mind all the time …

people like this are the ones that get games dumbed down for them for mordern “casual gamer” age
I don’t get it. If I go running 3 times a week for an hour, people think I’m hardcore. If I play a videogame for 2 hours a day, 7/7, you would consider me casual.
Re-align your priorities. If a game has daily/monthly objectives, they should be completed in the time span of a TV show (40 minutes max, 5 days in 7). Most people don’t have the time to dedicate more than that to any particular hobby, be it GW2, reading books or watching Prison Break. I consider this game to be a relaxing thing after my work hours, not a second job.
If that’s “dumbing down” in your book, I’m proud to be a dumb gamer and a smart husband/father/employee.

Take a look back at Guild Wars 1, and note how many different “trophy” drops existed. Consider that at the end of the game’s life cycle? Every one was a currency.
Considering Nicholas the Traveler who needed virtually every random drop in the game, GW2 is developed considerably better. There are some currencies, but not nearly as bad as they could be. All currencies have a clear purpose, both in how to gain and why to spend.
Considering how I have, IRL, Euros, Pounds and Dollars in my wallet just to be sure I can pay where ever I go. Considering I am virtually required to have a visa card to travel. I don’t think it is possible to avoid the many currency problem. If anything, it adds charm.

I never felt as if A.net is actively trying to ban everyone. These “rules” are more like guidelines that help you not get banned but still, a.net tends to review bans on a case by basis.

the difference between mesmer, necro, engineer, guardian, and elemental is that the summoners creatures will be more unique, and more than simply back up or a meatshield
I can’t see how they can be more unique than spirit weapons or offensive clones. Currently you’re not convincing anyone to add yet another pet profession to the game.
Five lines. Explain in a tl’;dr why another summoner would be a good thing for the game.

The price changes pretty often, how would I have time to post on the forums?
You didn’t answer the other questio, though: when I buy gems with dollars, do they substract from the supply (I guess not, but no word about this at all)? The opposite, when I sell the gems that I bought for dollars, are they added to the supply?
I will answer for you since it is just blatantly obvious.
- If you buy gems with dollars, they are “printed” out of thin air. All prices remain the same.
- If you then convert them to gold, they are added to the exchange supply. This influences the exchange rate.
At one point, the gems from dollars must be added (or must have been) to the stock of gems to exchange for gold, or there would never been any gems in there.
Indeed and that happens when you convert gems to gold. Not any sooner.

On one hand, it degrades their worth and makes aquiring one as easy as spending (yes thousands) on the gem store (and yes i do realise how that statement is ridiculous but true none the less).
If you consider that easy then why doesn’t everyone have legendary weapons? Consider 2000g ~ 15000 gems ~ 1000 euros. The person who wants to pay the equivalent of 100 monthly fees can have it for all I care. I don’t know if spending half your monthly salary on a virtual item is “easy” though.

I had to work on the old dailies and didn’t find them much fun since they were always, always the same. Boring to the core. Especially finding events and variety was annoying if you were unlucky.
The current system is so much better.
- group events: troll and rotting oakheart in 5 minutes
- gathering on the go
- doing personal story on my guardian
- kill variety. Lowered to 13 is a big deal!
- made 5 attempts at clovers. Got 4. Yeah!
The current one is so much easier than the old system and rewards far more varied play. At least I don’t feel punished for doing story (only risen, no events). I don’t feel punished for staying in the Shivs (small variety). I don’t feel punished for doing dungeons (no gathering no events).
I actually feel the current system allows for a far wider range of playstyles, drastically cutting on the “work” needed for the daily, both in time and in feeling like a chore. Sure some of them might push me out of my comfort zone but hey, I wouldn’t be where I am right now IRL if I never did that.

Dungeon tokens should be more transparent in that 1 token leads to 1 piece of equipment, every path dropping a single token a day for that dungeon. That way we won’t end up with stacks of AC/COF tokens but merely a handful per dungeon with no math necessary.
All currencies have a purpose currently and I do feel that having several is good too. It is getting out of hand if every patch introduces new currencies instead of making use of the existing ones.

My 8 person guild in SWTOR had to grind less to get full top gear (campaign at the time i played…, INCLUDING the weapon) than we do in this. This game was supposed to be different.
Gear is now in the same territory as it was in FFXI. Join a big guild and/or wait forever.
Oh and don’t come in saying “its to reward big guild for their organization!!”. People who randomly join a zerg guild with no leadership will still get their gear. No organization needed.
Nomen est omen. Guild Wars.
Guilds should be the core mechanic for this game.

I just hope I can find a pair that really bring out my eyes. Fortunately I’ve outgrown the spreadsheet mentality that plagues lesser MMOs and have realized a fraction of a percent boost here or there is far less important than playing the profession well.

Of course not. You should find yourself in court, get fined and probably serve jail time. What this has to do with GW2 is beyond me though.
I am not gonna argue wether arena net is doing theyr job well or not.. but they kitten well better except to be held to the same standards as people who work in a diffrent industry.
True. Given how the MMO industry is one of the most disrespectful ones on the market, a.net is actually doing a pretty good job.
As for taking the game less seriously, you said it yourself, its a hobby, my hobby.. who are you to tell me to take it less seriously?

Depends. Your stat total will still be higher with +all stats (Celestial). I like to have all stats so I’m durable, my heals are buffed a bit and I still do a nice amount of direct and condition damage. If I manage to work with all stats, I’m considerably more effective than a zerker or pure tank.
The question thus is whether or not you can use all stats. As soon as you’re not using 2 or 3 stats, it may be better to min-max. That’s a personal choice though.
Anyhow. With ascended gear you can raise the base stats of your character. As you said, you can still use your armor to focus on one or more stats to make a tanky damage dealer leaning one way or the other.

When people view your topic and not say anything at all. What is the point of even viewing it?
If a constructive response is not possible, I will not respond to the thread. An OP often thinks that having 2000 replies means he is right, even if 1800 of those replies disagree with him cfr. the “9000 post topic”.
Posting also bumps a topic back to the top. A thread I don’t agree with should not be bumped. As soon as a thread is on the second page, it is effectively dead.
By doing this, I can help keep positive, constructive topics on the first page, and avoid giving false credibility to troll topics.

Gah, 50 ectos as well as 40 laurels?
Sure, no grind here. The whole ascended set has to last people until at least Jan 2014, thanks to the overreaction of some fraction of the player base. That the ascended items are a lot grindier is basically their fault. Had they not complained so much, we could have had much quicker releases of gear at lower costs, and a completely new tier by summer. ANet did the best they could while staying true to their “no new gear tier in 2013” statement. :/
That would have been horrible for the vast majority of players. The current ascended system came from the overreaction of some fraction of another game’s player base. What they are doing currently is damage control to keep the majority of their fanbase.
I sincerely hope ascended is the final tier and if so, I do look forward to completing my characters with it.

How does that list matter? Cyclocross being less popular than soccer doesn’t make cyclocross a bad sport. Quite the opposite actually given how fundamentally boring soccer is … the most popular sport in the world. Yea…
I mean … runescape is more popular than Brood War. What would you make of that?
What i make of that? Runescape is more popular. Still i think Brood War is a better game. However, it’s really old and starcraft 2 is here + expansion. And they have more viewers than runescape. Cus it’s a better game.
Non sequitur. Soccer has the most viewers of all sports. It is anything but the best game.
All-in-all these are just opinions, some people would find sport B better than A. Even if A is more popular. I’m just talking about popularity, more viewers = more popular. This does not mean it’s a better game. But most of the times it is, why else would it be so popular?
I don’t know man. Windows is the most popular OS even though it’s arguably the worst between OS X and Linux. Heineken is incredibly popular worldwide even though it’s well known as a bad beer. WoW is the most popular MMO even though everyone agrees it’s bland at best and boring at worst. Whether or not you think Lady Gaga makes good music is irrelevant, she sure is queen of Twitter. No one likes facebook yet it’s the most popular of all antisocial media. And why is that airhead the most popular girl in school?
The majority of humans are sheep. People tend to flock together, which makes things popular because they are popular. Quality is often not a relevant argument. As such, popularity coming from being a good game, is a non sequitur. More precise, it is an argumentum ad populum and a logical fallacy.
