Warriors:
5 signets leads to +200 precision
heavy armor leads to +200 toughness
warrior has high base health pool

This means that 200 less toughness has to be invested for same durability. These points can then be invested in more precision or power.

Not to mentiokittensignet warrior is extremely easy to play.

I do agree your engineer probably does more damage and your guild knows it. However a pug has to know for sure, and because of that, an easy-mode zerk warrior is preferred because skill isn’t a variable to consider.

To be honest I do understand a little where the OP is coming from…
Lets say he loves WvWvw but takes a year break… Within that year Anet roll out ascended armour bought with laurels, so with dailies everyone gets suited up.
Op comes back, no laurels to buy new gear leaves him at a far greater disadvantage in wvwvw (asc armour and trinkets will make a difference). So, seeing as he can’t play effectively in the part of the game he likes he may aswell delete game and move on.

Complete hyperbole. Not a single statement in that quote makes any sense.

Currently we know that ascended gear is rolled out through various means, of which laurels is only one. I don’t expect laurels to be the only source of ascended gear but rather a secondary route as seen with the earrings/rings.
For all we know, the primary means for getting ascended armor might be WvW.

To reiterate. Your post doesn’t make any sense.

Leviathan, the thing in the Manifesto trailer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t care about what is said in the manifesto…they show in game footage. It’s pretty weird to make footage for a creature only to take it out (although they did create an armor for the mesmer trailer that’s not in the game, but that’s another story).

They ve shown footage of the Canthan district in Divinity as well… we all know how that turned out.
As for other “legit” reasons: not everything makes it into the game due to time constraints, development complications, etc. It should turn up eventually in one form or another.

Why are you even on the forums? You seem to very much not like GW2…

I hate what GW2 has become and that s exactly why i m posting here. but i guess that s too hard to comprehend for some people.

I don’t post on the WoW boards? I don’t post on the Aion boards? I don’t on the FlyFF boards? I don’t post on the Rappelz boards? I don’t send emails to the exes I dumped for good reason. I do not understand at all why you’d post here if you hated GW2.

I don’t waste my time on a game I hate although that’s a pretty strong word. If you really hate this game, feel free to use your time on something you love. You’ve got about 20 000 days to live your life. Don’t waste any days on games you hate lol.

Its a casual MMO meant for pick up and play, they made the game accessible to anyone meaning anyone can do anything type of content meaning for people with any sort of mmo background the game feels mindnumbingly easy .

I have an MMO background with several big titles, and honestly, they weren’t hard. They were frustrating.

GW2: easy to get into, hard to master
Other MMO: easy to master, grind to get tier 10000

WoW was never a difficult game. The only thing of value was your gear score and your ability to follow the rotation decided by someone’s excel sheet. I prefer GW2 where your RL brain actually has a purpose.

lack of info on the page for this patch?

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

There have been a few threads about this already (in this forum and WvW).

The prevailing fear is that anet are behind schedule on their update or having trouble fixing aspects of it.

Since March had been named (replacing February) as a huge update for WvW, including ranking, special new skills, etc., the silence at this stage and lack of confirmed functionality is, well, deafening.

If you’re going to deliver bad news, leaving it until the last minute will avoid a lot of howling on the forums in the short-term, but it is not exactly a sound PR strategy (look at Maxis and SimCity atm).

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, a teaser page does nothing more than teasing and you just proved it works very well.

We know for sure that WvW updates are part of the patch. These can’t be delayed any longer. Furthermore something will be done with the living story.
Any extras in the patch will be pure awesomeness in awesomesauce. As far as PR goes, I would say it’s brilliant. By not setting expectations, everyone will be blown away.

The game doesn’t offer you a whole lot of concrete goals, but there’s a few you’ll find if you look out for them.

Try filling out your achievements. Especially hero, jumping puzzles, exploration and bosses will keep you entertained for a while.

There’s a whole lot of cool weapons to craft that aren’t legendary yet at least as cool:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items

And dungeons … I love the dungeons in this game. Lack of trinity makes for a refreshing experience that’s based around skill. You’ll only learn to appreciate dungeons once you’re getting really good at the game. They’re difficult at first yet with practice, you can slide through a dungeon like a hot knife through butter, even though your character didn’t get better stats. That’s good design imho.

This whole gated content BS has caused no less than 10 of my friends to leave the game for games that honestly DO let you play how you want, where you want, and still get BiS gear.

I’d much rather play a calender gated content where I need to play 30 minutes a day, than a gear gated game where I can get BiS in 5 months if and only if I play 5 hours a day. I don’t see how that’s better than the current laurel system.

Guess what, I only have 30 minutes a day. The current calender gating is brilliant. I can’t keep up in a game like WoW, Aion, Rift, Tera … basically any other MMO. I am pretty sure the majority is in my shoes.

[iR] Gemstore at Maximum

Preventing Gold-Sellers
Dual GEM type system. Every Gemstore item has two gem prices:

  • Blue GEM that you can buy with game money and can backchange it for game money. Synced to the normal ingame profits. (5g/day)
  • Red GEM. Bought only with GEMCards. You can buy items, synced to worth of the real money, and direct-change it to game gold with a close ammount that Goldsellers can provide.

The Red GEM needed becouse of manipulated and overpriced back-transfering.
Currently: $25 gives you 2,000 GEM, which is ~28,gG. With this same money, you can get 50 to 60g, depending on goldsellers. Not worth to backchange it in these prices.

Most of the players will understand that they might receive a bit less game gold from Arenanet, but its legal and they support the company, meanwhile goldfarmers won’t work that effective because of it. Less hacked accounts btw.

OR just manually remove the goldsink in the system. It is not necessary at all.

Except gold buying from 3rd party is illegal and shouldn’t be considered in the pricing of gems. I think it is very reasonable to say that 3rd party gold buyers are either hacked or banned. No matter how you turn it, buying from a third party is stupid.

Even if I could get 10 times the amount of gold through a third party, I wouldn’t buy from them because I’d rather not lose my account in a banwave or hack.

Your red/blue system makes no sense and will not be implemented for very obvious reasons. I really don’t get why you even include illegal transactions in your considerations.

Dual professions possible!

in Suggestions

Posted by: marnick.4305

marnick.4305

The reason why dual-professions were taken out of GW1 was because of the problem wher the best X was actually a Y.

- The best ritualist was a necromancer (N/Rt healer)
- The best prot monk was an elementalist (E/Mo with Ether Renewal)
- The best blood necromancer was a ranger (R/N touch ranger)
- The best barrage ranger was an assassin (A/R crit barrage)

That was mostly because of the primary attribute working on secondary profession skills. However the current primary attributes only work for profession mechanics which limits the overpoweredness of these on secondary professions. It also lead to nerfing of professions for reasons that had nothing to do with said character.

Many players ask for more weapon skills, but I think the current weapon system is very robust. My suggestion is as follows:

- Only utility/elite/healing/skills can be from the secondary profession.

That would lead to far greater build diversity while still putting the focus on the main profession. It is the main profession that decides traits, weapons and therefor main build direction.

That being said, I do think we could use improvements, but I still beat pre-nerf Arah path 4 with 2 rangers, so our DPS must not be too awful (again, if played correctly).

True, but mesmers in GW1 had the same problem. They were always the strongest profession, yet professions are measured against their worst performance in PUGs, which is very low for rangers and GW1 mesmers.

I have the same with my engineer. My guild loves me, but pugs are a bit more hesitant.

in Account & Technical Support

marnick.4305

I had the same grapihcs card. Since ATi was bought by AMD, all older generation cards are no longer supported by proper drivers. This means newer games will access function that aren’t supported by AMD.

This is very visible in Windows 8 because the real drivers are so old and unsupported, windows 8 forces the winddk beta drivers. GW2 runs just fine with the winddk drivers but still …

Eventually, I replaced my HD4890 with an nvidia GTX 650. The HD4890 is a really good card on paper, but proper driver support is make or break, and AMD doesn’t support it at all.

So either install windows 8 to run just fine, or replace your videocard with one that’s properly supported by either nvidia or AMD.

Imho, that’s because people are stupid. In the end, people simply shouldn’t borrow money but ye, people will be people. Not having that at all is a safety hatch against people doing stupid things.

Why there's no LFG 7m after launch

Took WoW 5 years from launch to implement one, I remember when they did.

And now it is a standard feature that is expected to be there at launch. Like character customization, wardrobe slots, and dungeons.

There’s such a long list of standard features expected at launch that you’d wonder how devs have the time to actually develop the game itself …

All those quality of life features can be done by the community. I’d personally leave it to the devs to … y’know … build the game itself.

Most of those “standard features” are not important until well after launch. The core game is the first focus. Pet projects such as lfg tools, iphone apps, build templates, … are for later. These are simply the things you can expect the community to build for themselves instead of wasting precious development time on existing stuff.

There is only 1 thing I select on. If you go fractals 10++ you will want at least 5AR. Sure, it is not required but still … very much suggested.

My trinkets are still yellow, and my stats aren’t min-maxed. I’m not being elitist on things I don’t do myself. But I found fotm10 pretty annoying without AR and I know others struggle just as much as me.

Lastly, I don’t do COF speedruns, but if I would, it is only normal I’d use the correct build for a gimmick, I don’t think any debate about that is possible. If you don’t want to build for a gimmick, you shouldn’t play it.

4. What an extremely lame reply. He’s asking about the LFG tool, and your reply to that is, “yeah, well, do you also want a dragon timer, farming maps and youtube in the game as well? Huh?”… That’s just weak and a very poor point your trying to make.

Actually, it isn’t. There is a functional grouping tool, made by the community. The OP is asking to rush a project that’s low on the prio list.

By blowing it out of proportion and suggesting he’s asking too much sort of makes your argument blow up in your face. He’s not asking for any of that, he made no attempt to ask for any of that, and he is not asking for too much in the least.

In my opinion, he’s indeed asking for too much. Rushing the development of a delicate tool while a functional solution exist, is asking too much.

The fact of the matter is, development time went into make an under par LFG tool for the game. It’s not an acceptable tool and people have been clamoring for an improvement, and ANet decided to take their time with it.

GW2lfg is not an excuse. An in game LFG tool if done well (and I’m not talking about the lame WoW grouper) is meant to bring players who want to do dungeons together. Pretty much in the same way the mists tools bring PvPers together. Would it have been alright if PvPers had to spam LA chat to get matches going? Then why should dungeon runners do it?

All MMO games have community support in the form of add-ons, wikis, websites and forums. The gw2lfg.com website is the perfect reason to take time and focus on releasing a very good in-game lfg tool, that’s done when it’s done.

If a.net would release a rushed, broken lfg tool like in GW1, they’d have fire and brimstone. Another bad tool is worse than no tool… So I’d much rather have them wait until it’s fully done, even if that takes another 6 months. In the meantime, community support is what drives an MMO, and that includes gw2lfg.com.

So while you can show your appreciation for an in-game lfg tool, you should do so with the note that it’s released when it’s done, and no sooner.

OP has no idea what he’s talking about. Facts:

1/ GW1 didn’t get a grouping tool until almost two year into the game.

2/ The GW1 grouping tool didn’t even function well for grouping … it was mostly a trading tool or for specific farms

3/ A.net wants to do this right, so either a good tool or none

4/ GW2lfg.com does the job just fine. Are you asking for an in-game spidy, dragon timer, gold farm maps, youtube … too?

The fact is, a game this big will be supported by the community, and that means a.net can
- focus on more important things, since for all intents and purposes the lfg problem is fixed
- work on making a really, really good lfg tool instead of a half baked one like in gw1

I see that as positive things. And while you can rage all you want about the lack of a grouping tool … the simple fact is that this grouping tool exists, it works and there’s no need for you to rage. Without mods, WoW is a broken game, yet I never saw anyone rage about the perceived need to use add-ons…

Is this the most casual MMO ever?

yes, and in today´s gaming market, it has to be. Sadly for some, including me, good for others. There is just no way around it, the costs of developing and running big games, especially online massive multiplayer ones, are just too great for any other target audience model to succeed. And the invention of a casual friendly grind system now is an ingenious move from a business point of view.

I used to be very hardcore back as a student, and I was pretty vocal about it. Problem is, as a hardcore gamer, I was also rather poor and didn’t really support the games I played. Now I have a well paid job, which I can use to support my hobbies, of which GW2 is one. On the other hand, my time is far more limited. So here you have a double killer for the hardcore market:

- casual people are a vast majority. I’d wager 90+% but can’t give exact figures.
- casual people, on average, are willing to pay2win to invest in their favourite hobbies.
- hardcore people, on average, don’t want to pay2win since it invalidates “hard work”

So whether you count heads or dollars, casuals are what drives the gaming market. Developers are starting to realize that.

A day has 24 hours, no more, no less. Many things eat into that, be it work, kids, chores, family, other hobbies … No matter the way you turn it, for most people videogames are last on the priority list. However people want to spend big money on hobbies. Hobby cyclists often have $4000 bikes which they use twice a year or so. That’s why GW2 took the route of pay2save time.
