As for the other comments made about my posts, particularly the one about needing my hand held. I’ll forego returning one insult with another. I went through the first game without having my hand held just fine, with several characters, yet HOT is a completely other story. Spare me your condescending crap. I am a decent enough gamer and not at all far from the norm.

Insulting? No.
Condescending? Absolutely yes. Because how else to address someone who tries to deter people from game saying it can’t be soloed and it’s too hard, when majority of people (casuals included) are doing just fine. Not to mention that this is MMO and it would be silly that all content is easily soloable.
Base game maps are ridicolously easy, you can’t even take them as benchmark for anything. HoT was just normal, with easy parts, with average parts and with harder parts. And by harder parts I mean parts that are hard to solo but really easy when few randoms join in and help.
Unless if by hard you mean you can’t survive when running into few veteran mobs and an elite trying to facetank them. Then, by all means, HoT is hard.

HoT is good value, easy or hard, and good purchase. Even if you get only 20 hours of gameplay out of it you still get more value that majority of entertainment available around you.

I think what Oneira is trying to say is that you shouldn’t buy HoT if you like to have your hand held when going through content.

Sometimes it feels like people playing GW2 have this game as the first ever game they played. As soon as something little kittenallenging appears or something they can’t steamroll through, there is outcry how this game isn’t easy enough, how every single thing isn’t soloable, how things can actually kill you if you’re not paying attention, how you need to explore things on your own…

Last thing you want is running into warrior’s kill shot from 1500 range or getting instantly downed by random attack coming out of enemy group.

Allow class stacking in ESL

Pretty sure stacking is problem in any MMORPG. Simple reason, if you have 5 players with access to one skill that is strong on it’s own but on a cooldown it will break game very fast when that skill can be used 5 times at the same time or in succession.
Take any class and you can find a way to break the game.
Stacking traps to instantly kill people, healers being immortal when stacked, condi thieves stealing, 5 rangers sniping anything from 1500 range…
Popular example from another game: multiboxing shamans – there’s a reason for shamans in particular. Chain lightning and chain healing. On it’s own is OK-ish, but multiply by 15 or 20 and suddenly it takes whole city to wipe them.

Also it’s one time purchase and no subscription fee.

D/P is in decent position atm and shouldn’t be nerfed for the sake of making it equal to sub-par weapon choices. If only someone from balance team took few hours and fine-tuned them, we’d see more weapons in play instead of 99% people playing pretty much only viable PvP option.

It’ really strange that Anet isn’t doing much regarding the balance of other underused weapon sets. Problem is evident and yet nothing much isn’t done. What’s the worst that can happen if someone gets a bit happy with the numbers and coefficients on those underused weapons? Not like they can do anything to make them op…

[[Developers]] Want GW2 Tournament Worthy?!

In GW2, everyone and no one is equal, but in the bad way of both spectrums.
Everyone can choose any profession or build.
In choosing any profession or build you must do it preemptively.
It is a blind folded and soundless game of poker with only one round.
No one… Wants to play a blind folded, soundless, single round of poker.
Beyond a certain skill level, it is merely build vs build. Not player vs player.
Confronting a build where it is impossible to kill them.
Confronting a build where they can make 10 mistakes but you only maybe make 1.

So according to this, basically every sport and game ever is playing poker blind-folded. In every sport you preemptively choose something. You choose the technique, you choose your gear, you choose your training regime, you choose your trainer, you choose how you will play out, strategy, position… everything is chosen preemptively. You prepare yourself the best you can, make choices I mentioned and then with that you go and play. It’s a bit far fetched, but every sport/game ever you preemptively choose something before, just like you choose class in GW2. Hell, even in most played e-sports games you make same choices like in GW2.
Confronting a build you can’t kill just means the game is rock paper scissors to some extent, but you can still defeat scissors if you have strong paper or you got rock backing you up. This is where teamplay comes in.
Just like in football. You can’t force a striker into defensive position, because he preemptively chose to be a striker and he gave all he had to train and be the striker. He will be better striker than some defensive guy, even if he made 10 misses and misplays during game. But that means that on the same position defensive player might have 50 misses and misplays.

In GW2, the skill ceiling is very reachable at low skill.
In all other tournament worthy games the skill ceiling is near infinite.
I’m not talking about player level.
I’m talking how far an individuals skill gets them.
The peak of which, on a single build.
In this game is very reachable at low skill.
…Assuming proper understanding exists.

Watch twitch streams. Even if you’re not very skilled player you can easily recognise how skill levels are different between top legendary players. Some have reached much higher levels even though they play same games. Recently I was watching some random guy being a total… scrub. He was in top 250, but he had absolutely zero clue what was going on in game. Top 250.
Even in yesterday’s tournament hosted by Helseth and Sindrener you could easily notice who was better skilled and outplaying other team. Sometimes it wasn’t big difference, but it was difference none the less. None of them have reached ceiling, not even close.

In GW2, the separation between the skilled and those lesser is almost nonexistent.
The difference between a good player, and a ever so slightly better player…
If they are of different professions, unless the skill gap is extreme…
No one knows who’s better.

As mentioned above, follow various streamers competing in top 250 and very fast you will notice difference in their gameplay, awareness and commentary. The difference is so evident you could see it even if you never played PvP/WvW in GW2.

I think yesterday’s tournament showed well that GW2 tournament can be quite interesting if done properly. Even though player organised, it was much more entertainment, quality and value than the official thing.

Downstate brings a lot of depth to the gameplay and needs to stay. It’s a double edged blade and it brings variety.

If you don’t see tell on most telegraphed skill in game (vault) then you should probably play different game.
And while we’re at it, to be hit 12k vault or 10k backstab you need to be loaded with vulnerability, thief needs to be full glass and probably have many stacks of might. He may get the kill on you but next hit someone lands on that thief is killing the thief. But we’re going off topic now.

Mesmer called, but I couldn’t really hear him clearly beccause he was laughing so hard he accidentally teleported 4 times in a row.

If you’re running mimic and you use CS just to blink 3 times in a row you are playing mesmer wrong in PvP

Well, you’re obviously ignoring my point. But the possibility to chain teleports is there. And it’s stun breaker. And it’s on 30(24)s cooldown which is much less than 50(40)s that thief has. I’d take mesmer’s cooldown before condi clear on second port any time.

To add:
If we were to compare skill for skill like I just did for mesmer then you would see there is a lot of imbalance like this. Two skills or traits that have same mechanic can differ a lot between classes. Some get more some get less, depending on how their class is played and what mechanics it has.
Calling Shadowstep op is really not knowing basics of the game and being salty. Thiefs don’t really have going much for them and few goods skills keep thief alive in what would otherwise be being one-shot scenario. But I guess it’s easy for Necro to talk stupid stuff like op did, he isn’t the one that will get killed by one or two strong attacks. He has effectively 40k HP (minimum) and he doesn’t care most of the time.

This is genuine question as I’m not into all these legendaries: is there some elaborate quest or event involved in making legendary armour? Or do you just have to gather X number of this and that?
What I gather regarding the new legendary weapons, you just need enough mats to drop into forge and you get the item.
If this be the case with armour as well, I’m seriously wondering why it takes more than a year to make some silly 3D models to put in game?
I’m no 3D modelling expert, but that’s a week’s worth of job for small team to put together…

Even if he had macros, it really wouldn’t make much difference. Macro doesn’t allow you to use together skills that couldn’t be used together by regular button-pressing at the same time.
It just reduces number of buttons you gotta press at the same time. And for a skilled player pressing 3-4 buttons at the same time or in fast sequence really isn’t problem.

If you speak a single language you have zero rights to complain. Most of the GW community needs to speak english to be able to understand the game in the first place, that includes the whole Europe where people speak bajillion of languages. They can adjust and learn 2-3 languages.
Why can’t you speak spanish/portuguese at least? I know english is international language and everyone should be able to at least understand basics, but it’s mighty ignorant of you (op) to bash people for not speaking english while you can’t speak any second language yourself (I apologise if you do, but I’m willing to bet majority of north Americans can’t).

Just like it’s expected of every young European to speak english and/or german as their second and third language it should be expected of NA people to speak spanish and/or maybe portuguese since you’re kinda neighbours and you got a big connections with areas where those languages matter.

How would you redesign the thief?

1. Stealth button on demand like we have Steal – really sad thieves don’t have reliable stealth button and stealth is supposed to be their thing.
2. Make P/P less boring. So much room there to make it really awesome and they failed so hard on this weaponset.
3. Add 4th and 5th skill to every weapon when one-wielding so we can use only one dagger for example.
4. Switch and tune some skills in specialisation trees. I mean, when 100% of thieves run Trickery and 0.1% runs Acro you know something is wrong. Basic stuff!
5. 15k HP baseline. Thieves are supposed to be fit and fast. I think they are much more qualified than silly mesmers for bigger HP pool. Necros I shouldn’t even mention…
6. Delete warriors.

I’ve thought about making stealth its own mechanic skill, but then you’d have problems with the skills that grant stealth on their own, as well as the combos that give stealth.

Said skills would need to be reworked, maybe into glyphs, so they have a different effect depending if you’re stealthed or not. Stealth itself would have an energy bar, and let you enter and exit it at whim, like necromancer’s Death Shroud. It would regenerate automatically, but maybe it could be boosted by staying in shadow fields or blinding enemies.

The problem now is what to do with non-thief stealth. Maybe make it a boon? And thief stealth mode wouldn’t be stealth itself, but a shadow mode, which pulses stealth to himself. This could kinda work, I guess?

The problem isn’t transforming stealth into a its own mechanics, it’s what to do with stealth as it currently works.

I’ve thought more along the lines of:
press button, enter stealth for 4-5 seconds, button goes on 20-30 seconds cooldown. That’s all, nothing less nothing more. It wouldn’t have any effect on any other skill. Think of it a as something like blinding powder without combo finisher and blind and everyone has it by default.

To rant more:
This would be a great thing for builds (P/P, SB, S/P) that have virtually no access to stealth unless investing precious skill slots, thus crippling then in other areas, and would open up some interesting new builds perhaps. Thief’s signature ability is supposed to be stealth, but you can enter stealth only with certain builds – this is silly IMO. Steal isn’t enough and compared to some other F abilities other classes have it’s really nothing. Elementalists for example have a whole kitten nal at their disposal on F1-F4 buttons. Thiefs get what – one button that needs to be heavily traited to be considered decent.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/thumb/8/82/Mesmer_02_concept_art.jpg/250px-Mesmer_02_concept_art.jpg

Think about it for just a second: You’re running in EBG and come across mesmer. Suddenly an eerie image of face that shouldn’t exist covers your screen and starts screaming at you to the point your ears start bleeding irl. At the same time other mesmer that’s running toward you summons Shatterer’s illusion and makes it devour the whole area you’re standing in. So after the vision from first mesmer is finally gone you find yourself burried in the rubble of what was just 5 seconds ago a full sized keep.
Cause if that thing would happen it would be bloody scary and would make me have scars for life.

But! We’re not done yet! An elementalist from your team comes running and rips off a nearby mountain and throws it at mesmers obliterating them. He then proceeds to call down the flood that floods the map an then necromancer plagues the water killing everything else still alive.

Now, if I didn’t convince you then it’s probably because this is just a game and these limitations are needed, otherwise we would all walk around game mad from everything that would happen.

And mesmers do give migraines. Especially when they explode me out of nowhere. Really hurts my feelings.

What happened to the dangerous mesmers from guild wars 1? The one who wielded chaos storms, drained their foes from their energy, conjured horrifying images of fear and nightmare who tormented their foes.

Mesmers who were attacking the enemies brain, causing them to be clumsy, making them cry from pain and frustration, making them delusional, made them feel imagined burden and slowed them down.

Caused migranes, wracking their minds, making them mistrust their own allies, making them feel shameful and even emphatic towards their enemies that they hated enough to kill on sight..

I’m no expert on mesmers, but I think you just perfectly described mesmers in GW2.

Leave traps, they are already terrible. Put damage on caltrops (both skill and traited) and problem solved.

Again not a solution. No one would ever or could ever use Caltrops were this change made. Caltrops is a 10 second field and were I playing against a thief I would RUN INTO the field to reveal the thief .The thief would not be able to stealth for ten+ seconds.

I still think the solution is to limit stealth stacking. In compensation the base stealth for most stealth utilities would go from 3 seconds to 4 seconds. (or even five) meaning with the trait out of SA this becomes 5 or 6 seconds.

Once stealthed one could not add more stealth.

Now shadow refuge pulses adding stealth while stealthed. The mechanics of this would have to be changed or this could remain as an only skill where stealth can stack.

I should have been more clear: add damage when dropping caltrops. Leave rest as is. Caltrops are dropped under someone’s feet. If you walk into caltrops field they you deserve all the condi you get and thief shouldn’t be punished for that.

Stealth stacking is fine. I’d go as far and say that limit for stacking it not necessary. If someone wants to run around in stealth being useless so be it. If someone exploits that to cap SM or cause other shenanigans – even better!

There is too much complaining to ‘normalize’ the whole combat. RNG, ‘exploits’ like stacking massive amounts of some boons, making one-shot builds, silly builds like ghost thief… all these make this game interesting and challenging.
When things like these start to break meta then intervene, but as long as it’s marginal and not breaking game then it should stay.

So I guess this is the same situation like that thread where people complain about trailblazer gear: 2-3 specs overperforming in that gear so it’s logical to nerf all condis rendering average performing specs in gutter, right? Same thing here, you call for general nerf on stealth which would kill the thief, when it’s much easier to tune few skills.
But hey, go ahead, nerf everything without much thinking about consequences on other stuff that will be needlessly gutted in the process. I bet that solved many problems before!

Make applying damage conditions reveal and problem solved.

This would break many things for thieves. Starting from stealth on steal trait becoming useless. And traps revealing thief would be even worse, since thief traps are already terrible and only used in ghost thief gimmick build.
Caltrops on the other hand could be given initial damage when dropping and it would kill off the perma stealth thiefs. But then again, ghost thiefs aren’t really meta so I don’t see why it needs to be gutted anyway. Isn’t enough people already playing d/p because of lack of viability of other builds? Just because ghost thief is annoying and hard to kill doesn’t mean it’s very effective. If it was so op then everyone would be playing it. Until then I don’t think ghost thiefs are problem.
One could also argue that one-shot thief builds also need nerf (well, every class can pull off one-shots if you make such build) because technically you don’t see it coming and you’re downed instantly (ghost thief needs time to kill and you really need to be unaware of what’s happening to die). But these are mostly gimmick builds and aren’t meta for reason.

No, it wouldn’t. Stop being melodramatic. Change the stealth on steal trait to apply conditions before stealthing the thief. Instantly not a problem. Its almost like magic somehow.

Read again what you wrote and tell me again how that would work.

Stealth on steal already works in a way that it applies damage (if you have it traited) before stealthing. That’s why you can do that 2k damage and stay in stealth when stealing. That’s why you can heartseaker from smoke field, do damage and stealth.
It works because it’s a single hit. Condi hits every second.
If condi would break on damage then second tick would reveal thief because it’s still ticking damage. And every single tick of condi on target would reveal which would kill the stealth as mechanic in general.

Ghost thief is problem only because people usually encounter it for the first time (because it is rare) and by the time they realise what hit them it is too late to recover. People who already encountered such build usually don’t have problem with it.

If it is so powerful why isn’t everyone in that armor and condi build? People forget that condi does damage, but does damage over time, and that makes the whole difference. You have time to properly react to that. It’s much worse to get hit 7k instantly than get 10k condi on you that ticks for several seconds.
Condi is fine, it’s just that some builds aren’t.

Builds that hit for 7k instantly do not also have 3200 armour and lots of vit though….. maybe I should have said that the builds that use condi the best tend to be inherently defensive to begin with , and those builds when combined with defensive stats while being able to do damage is annoying to deal with in a small man environment.

Of course they don’t need that armour because when they hit 7k, 7k, 5k, 3k all under 3-4 seconds then it’s fight over most of the time (i’m being generous with numbers here because most power builds hit much more than that). They don’t need to wait out for conditions to slowly eat away their enemy.
If you go condi, in this game it’s natural that you’re slightly more tanky due to the fact that you need to outlive your enemy due to the mechanic of conditions – damage over time.
So thank you for proving my point.

And as someone here mentioned, maybe anet should look into blocks, immunities and stuff like that that is getting out of hand instead of tank armours. It shouldn’t be normal that you can’t do damage to someone for 5+ seconds flat while they at the same time can hit you with all they have.

DIRE/TRAIBLAZER

in WvW

Posted by: martin.1653

I think the frustration comes from the fact that dire/trailblazer builds will deal more damage then a corresponding power build with the same stats, for example 3200+ armour as well as a high amount of Vit is what you get with a dire/trailblazer build, but if you try to make a power build with that level of toughness and vitality, you end up doing negative damage….. with that said, aside from condi necro none of the condi builds end up being viable outside of small fights/duels.

If it is so powerful why isn’t everyone in that armor and condi build? People forget that condi does damage, but does damage over time, and that makes the whole difference. You have time to properly react to that. It’s much worse to get hit 7k instantly than get 10k condi on you that ticks for several seconds.

Correct me if I’m wrong but, aren’t most people rolling power builds? If condi is so OP why call for nerf? Why not just nerf certain builds that benefit way too much from tank condi armors? For condi their is conterplay on account it’s damage over time. Against instant 10k crits there is not much counterplay.

First we remove trailblazer and dire, next someone will notice how viper and berserker are too much damage oriented then we remove that, then someone complains that minstrel and nomad are impossible to kill… and then we remove that and eventually we all end up with celestial gear. And then we will see complaints how celestial is OP for certain classes and everyone just starts running naked. But then SJWs start yelling how they are offended and need their safe space. And then everyone gets their own map to play alone. And then uh.. we remove… uhhh… stuff.

Why are thieves the biggest whiners in WvW?

Whiners are probably people who got killed by thief, came crying to forums about it and called for nerfs. Then they rolled thiefs themselves (to show everyone how thief is OP and can kill everything in a split second) and then got obliterated in every single fight cause they had to press more than 1 button and couldn’t facetank 15k damage.
Hah!

Was playing last 2-3 days with something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQJApnn3geNSuQvJRboHlsP0kS4I6SJ4EtrklTlxO93rXNjPKJNgEWA-T1hMABheCAkR5nYKBzSPwdq/A6DAAg9HAA-w

Haven’t played Rev lately much so it was casual roaming, but this is pretty much steamrolling against average players not careful enough. It can take a good beating and still pumps out bunch of condi. Burning being the focus here with Balthazar runes.
Not many expect you will go all out condi on them as Rev I guess.

Honestly it’s your mistake to get hit by that. As a thief your main job is to run and evade and you failed at that. You had one job and failed at it. Go sit in corner, think about it, reflect on it, feel shame and come back once you realise it is actually thief that needs nerf. Had you been more nerfed you would probably pay more attention and use more skill.
Poor warrior probably even had to shoot from 1500 range because he could barely keep up with your running. More nerf to Dash as well.

Cake vids are usually interesting. This one is seriously boring. Thiefs have interesting gameplay vids.

Also, 50% of video is just backpedalling.

Thief's in the next expansion.

Just step aside and let them finish their spam. Then give em one good well placed slap on the wrist.

Don’t buy expansion until of 50% off.

You are willing to wait 1 year only to save 20€? That’s… well… ok.

edit: also disable char changes 10 seconds before match starts.

I’d kinda like to see char changes disabled after the match starts, too. I’ve seen a couple of times when people switched characters when they thought they were winning so they could get a daily win on another profession on a ‘safe’ game… and I’ve lost at least one game because multiple people on my team tried to do that while the game was actually reasonably close.

Well, I meant 10 seconds before match and until match ends. What is even point in leaving this feature in game. Makes no sense you are able to witch chars during game.

Oooooor, if someone disconnects make it instant replace, and if someone logs to char screen make it max 20 seconds. The game can distinguish that pretty easily.
There’s no reason to argue this will hurt players who have constant DCs because it is better to hurt player that DCs than the 4 other people in team who don’t have anything to do with someone’s bad connection.
Restarting router alone usually takes few minutes alone if you do that, restarting game can also take pretty long depending on loading screens. If you have bad connection and go into game where 4 other people depend on you then you need to take on a certain amount of responsibility.
