“This is why you take” is such a stupid sentence … I’m sick of reading that >_> It’s allways better to have as many different classes isntead of 2+ times the same one, so everyone can get everyones buffs and reflections and heals etc. As long as everyone knows what they are doing… In the end everyone deals about the same dps, this is how gw2 works. Some do it active and some do it passive.
I mean, ok, at the end of the day it won’t be a large difference. But 2x ele is simply better than ele + mes on some paths, like ac p1 and p3. I main my Mesmer, so I love playing her! But she doesn’t bring anything necessary to those fights, while the ele brings insane deeps with FGS and more might. ACp2, on the other hand, is awesome for mesmers, since two feedbacks are often enough to kill the boss. 2x mesmers on Lupi? Yes please, for the same reason.
I don’t think bringing Mesmer is ever really ~bad~, it’s just that there are some paths where we are omg amazing! and others where we are just average.
List #2 – Never used.
[Mesmer]
- Mantra of Concentration
- Mantra of Distraction
- Mantra of Pain
- Mantra of Recovery
- Mantra of Resolve
My whole spvp, and pve build is made of mesmer mantras. They aren’t “never used”, just not in meta.
Also, shadow trap has its uses: for teleport at swamp fractal, for soloing orbs in arah, and on non moving big bosses, but 10 stacks of might for 5 seconds, not worth taking over one more signet.
Mantras ~are~ the PVE meta. 12% extra damage to feedback? Yes please.
You would still hit the cap with power necros.
++
How is that, Max?
Looks great Lilith! I hope it is helpful— that’s all I want. Always willing to rewrite it if it gets too “hot,” and if you’re getting flamed for it, feel free to delete it or point people my way
dat condi cap tho
Arcane Brilliance is also part of every good Dungeon elementalist build. The blast is great!
All mantras, especially with Empowering Mantras, are actually part of the meta builds fo Mesmer dungeon running. It’s rare that I’m not running three mantras, in fact. They’re not useless by any means.
Moving, even a liiiitle bit, can start AoE poison damage which will immediately cause everyone to die. It’s really quite important to stack tight in that corner and not move.
That’s just some fairy tale told to pugs to scare them. As long as every target stays within a little bit more than melee range (aka. 180), she’s never going to use it. The only time you really strictly want to stack is when you have an ele who knows how to use fiery greatsword.
I run behind her back to avoid getting cleaved (if she’s in a spot where you can), and if she’s doing the “cone-web” attack you can just move to the sides and avoid it with ease.
Once the mobs are pulled into the correct spot, strict stacking isn’t needed anymore, you can often position yourself in a way that doesn’t move them and yet helps you avoid attacks (works with the Graveling champions too).
Sure, if you’re good, you’ll know how to move (into her, etc.) Most pugs (like OP), on the other hand, dodge back, cause the range damage, and everyone wipes.
I also usually FGS the fight, so yeah, stacking is good
It seems that I rubbed you guys the wrong way, even if unintentionally. I am not trying to say that mesmer is not an awesome class, I love it just like any of you, and it is honestly amazing, but it’s not amazing because of the damage it could theoretically do, because that damage has way too many ifs, and many dungeon boss fights just don’t last long enough for mesmer to build up his DPS high enough to catch up with the rest of DPS classes that just dish it all out from the start. Mesmers are taken for their team utility, the moment you leave that utility out, mesmers will lose their place.
This is exactly right. The DPS ~can be great~, but that’s not why you take a mes— you take a mes for the reflects, time warps, and portals. This is why the meta builds are more like 0/30/0/25/15, or 10/30/0/20/10 (both with Empowering Mantras). These are the builds that maximize your reflect uptime (thanks to spec’ed iWarden and Temporal Curtain, and Glamour Mastery giving faster Feedbacks) while giving great DPS at the same time.
I’d definitely love an invite to the guild, as a noobie. I’ve been running with Yakkington’s armor/travelers runes for a long time, which keeps me alive, but still gets me kicked from experienced pugs for not being aggro enough. So I’m finally saving up for the zerker/scholar gear, and I’m excited about learning something other than CoF.
One question: Do you really expect a casual warrior to switch to Nike’s 30/25/0/0/15 build just for dungeon’s when I’m usually running a 0/0/30/30/10 in WvW and PvE?
Switching takes 5 minutes. The people who ask for meta builds will certainly require to switch. Some people in the list don’t really care though (e.g. see Lilith).
I give you the job of making our guild emblem, Lilith!!! All the invitations are sent, along with private message to those who don’t have an open guild slot ;D.
However, I don’t know if the guild emblem is server specific or not. Guess we will see. H ha
It’s not~
D/F is the weaponset you want for fresh-air. The whole point is to move quickly between attunements, always going back to air to autoattack. S/F or S/D just doesn’t have the damage with auto-attacks to make attunement dancing worth it— you’ll almost always see these combinations using conjured weapons (lightning hammer) for actual DPS.
Check out the second post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-DPS-Elementalist-Builds-for-PvE/first for more info.
It’s very unlikely that things will change. Once the ferocity-main comes out, zerker+assassin+that might be more optimal, but we will have to see how it shakes out.
If you don’t need it right away, I would say save your money for now. On the other hand, if you’re impatient, it seems very unlikely that pure zerker will ever be more than 1% off from the best combination.
You get the reward for minimum of your PR and the fractal level. I included the link to show what you can get.
If you are PR 49 and run a 1, you get the rewards for 1. If you are PR 1 and run 49, you get the rewards for 1.
As the link shows, everything has a chance for ascended armor. Supposedly it is higher in higher levels, but there is little data on this.
Just thought I would bump the write up about stacking, since we saw another thread this week. I think the stacking question is similar to questions about kicking, etc., which are already in the FAQ. No problem if you don’t want to include this, but I don’t think starting another thread is the right idea.
I always found SE1 and CoF1 to be the quickest.
Harder to switch on CoFp1 though, because the order of xp awarded is stupid there.
ACP1/P3 is fastest for the average player. The cutscenes are also very long, giving you enough time to switch even after the bosses are dead.
This is true indeed, provided you get one of your party members to watch the cut scene, this is a must for pugs of cource.
I ask on almost all my pug runs just as we start, and then remind folks at the end. I’ve never had a group say no. I try to be nice, and people are nice back

Elementalist build has antitoxin spray.
LOL

The elementalist forums have two excellent stickies, written by DEKeyz and Anierna, which have all the information you could possibly want. Ropechef’s link above is a great place to start.
[rT] is a jet engine. I like it.
Since when is “all other games do it like this, so it must be right” an acceptable argument? There’s a reason I’m not playing all the other games…
Alpha has plenty of time to attack against a full zerker group— we just know how to dodge. Similarly, Mai has plenty of time to attack, but in a good group that knows the mechanic (spread out) barrage is super easy to dodge.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with either.
Best way to beat Mai is still zerkers. Nice try though.
Mostly we LOS on the rocks just as you come out on the right side (not the ones mentioned above, but literally outside the tunnel). Blind spam actually helps a lot because of the charr (can’t blind dredge though). Standard dps aoe stuff after that.
Hooray! Thanks!
I like how you used the mouse to make sure we could see what skills you were using! :P
But seriously, nice run. Sorry this got linksvilled.
To be honest, I think the requirements of some mentors where “must be on voice comms” and/or “have meta/zerk gear” is scaring off potential students.
This pretty much. I’m pretty new to dungeons, so I browsed this forum and found this topic. I thought it be pretty cool to have a mentor but then I noticed the requirements for most of them and it made me feel like it would be a boot camp experience instead of just having fun.
If anyone wants to help out a level 80 newbie thief that isn’t in meta build or full exotics – you can message me or mail me in game. Only explorable mode I’ve done so far and completed is AC1. So any guidance would be appreciated.
There definitely are folks in the list who will take you. Don’t expect them to reach out— take the initiative and read the list.
Sorry Taco, not very good. Tanks are just not helpful, ranger tanks even less than guard tanks.
Is the game still a challenge for you? I don’t see you posting 10 s Lupi kills, so I assume yes.
Then what’s the problem? The game is too easy for some people, so they have fun by figuring out stuff like this. That’s no skin off your back, for the last time.
Two threads complaining about zerkers/speedruns and pet builds, in one day. 10/10 OP, please post more.
Excellent, thank you both!
You do realize there are 37 s kills without FGS?
Them being good doesn’t take anything away from you. Hell, in proud of myself for recently surviving my first full melee encounter with lupi— this was a personal goal of mine for a long time.
Sub minute kills are not ever going to be part of the meta— they’re just a demonstration of the best possible, most optimized effort.
There are also 21s kill without FGS
. Although sometimes if you are lucky you can get a phase 3 skip in a casual gamesun.
Sweet, could you post the link? I must have missed it.
FGS OP. Reflects OP. Actually thinking about the mechanics of the game and finding the best strategy instead of complaining about pet builds: OP.
Actually the fact that the game ever existed is blatantly a bug.
Edit: ^_~ but it’s a fabulous bugame.
I knorite? Other people are having fun, bug confirmed, plz fix.
(Straight face mode: awesome game, great fun, excellent community challenging themselves to play as best as possible. What’s not to love?)

No one does!
Points for trying, and admitting when it doesn’t work out
Dailies reset at 4 PM pacific time for NA. Dunno the Euro time.
I sorta recall some posts talking about Phantasmal Haste being bugged. If it’s working both iDuelist and iWarden would benefit. Pretty sure it’s never worked with iSwordsman. Wonder how a 10/15/0/25/20 Sw/Sw/F would work..
Blood~
Doesn’t work with warden either. Only duelist benefits, so it’s not really worth it. Would be a very nice build if it wasn’t so bugged.
There are very few paths which have a hard requirement for 5. CoFp1 is one famous example. Swamp and dredge require 3.
It’ll be very hard— you’ll be missing 50% or more of your party dps! But hey, a party of 3 zerkers is basically as good as 3 zerkers and 2 PTV.
One option is to just get your small group together and pug the rest. Bonus: making fun of silly pugs with your friends.
You need to specify what type of content (WvW, PvE open world, dungeons, etc.) you want to play.
Does anyone know if you can move soulbound ascended armor to other characters with the transmutation crystal + splitter trick which works for legendaries?
Yup.
wanted to add that if you are looking to pure dps… change class. mesmer dps sucks, mesmer is meant to have a support side, if you don’t wanna use it, don’t use mesmer at all :p
That depends on how many Phantasms you can maintain. With Sword and 2x Phantasms up you are doing pretty well, easily on par with most other Zerkers. 3x Phantasms yield some of the higher DPS I’ve been able to test. No phantasms, then you’re pretty low. At least this is the case with 30/30/0/0/10 solo testing. 10/20/0/25/15 is lower but can still be competitive with 3x Phantasms running.
Blood~
100% this. Depends slightly on the phantasms used, but 3x swordsmen is some of the best deeps possible.
but.. but.. it said sword / sword !! and pistol
and i say, where is your focus! :p just joking… i really can’t imagine a pve mesmer without focus, tho.
0/30/0/25/15 or 0/30/0/20/20 or 10/30/0/20/10 (all most dps spec atm I guess) are builds meant to have focus in your equip as far as I know.
The 0/30/0/20/20 isn’t worth it because phantasmal haste is so bugged.
10/30/0/20/10 and 0/30/0/25/15 are the right choices for combining reflection damage + phantasm dps. Most people run these sorts of things, with sword+sword and sword+focus.
I’m okay to add how many wisp you want, as long as there remain only 3 pillars that those wisps go into.
This would actually be pretty cool.
