No matter the class PVE is irrelevant :-P
But, it’s totally up to you too pick up another weapon set bro.
It’s what you make it yourself. You are not forced to play in a specific way.
Gaming is all about FUN, so, make it FUN!

Aww, okay. Thanks anyway tho. Will watch it when I get home ;-)
Can you make it available for phone? I like to watch and hype my self up while on work, lol.
What a thief can do in zergs/siege?
- Spam #2 on Shortbow for blast finishers (if a Ele or Engi drops a fire field, you can stack might to everyone around you very easily. Many uses for this skill, there are enough guardian fields around (light fields), if you #2 on those you get AOE retaliation).
We have the most spammable blast finisher in the game. It’s not so funny to do so, but it’s very benefiting for your team! So spam dat #2!
- I don’t zerg, but if we happen to cross paths, I usually lurk in the background of the other zerg to pick of squishies in the backline (ele’s, some rangers are incredible squishy, necroes if caught by surprise etc etc).
- If you are in a group of 5, (havoc group) Venom Share is a awesome tool for your party. If not in a group, teammates around your venom-circle get’s your venom’s anyway.
Just a few tips that ran into my mind. I don’t see a thief as a necessity in a zerg/siege, but we can help our party through blast finishers and picking of targets in the backline.
Maybe someone with more zerg experience have a different view of what we can contribute then I have.
Any tips for my traits/armor/runes/trinkets/skills?
@Fay: No? I think it’s rather common because without SA (for added toughness and healing in stealth+condi removal) we are practically free kills. At least when we get hit between the 5+2 combo :P
But yeah, if I am gonna make the first appearance he can go glassier and pick targets off faster.
S/D evade build will most likely get nerfed (ready up yesterday. check thief forums for whine whine, lol).
Anyways, I was more interested in my mesmer, so what do I do? ^^
And @NICENIKESHOE.7128
I know, I solely roam in WvW, be it in EB or the boarders. Not only is it enough people with so called “cheese” builds, but you will also get hunted by larger groups (at least that’s my experience as a thief, but hey.. We are hated).
So I am well aware of the frustrations as a roamer ;-)
Thank you all for your answers.
It seems, also since I am a freshie on my mes, that a PU would be the best, at least as a starter. Any tips to traits, maybe a build site for me?
Should I mix my armor, like 3 pieces of zerker and rest knight for some added toughness? I have full ascended zerker trinkets on my thief which I can switch over to my mes (I switch them over all my characters, thank god for that account bound change).
The thief I am playing with is using D/P, 0/6/6/2 setup, with valk armor and valk weapons. Maybe I should encourage him to go even glassier?
Hey!
So, I am a roamer at heart, and want to roam with my newly 80 butterfly man.
I know you get these questions on a regular basis, and I watched through some of the stickied posts. Are the ones from osicat still viable, since I see the guides are a little dated?
I am really lost on this class, lol :P But I just want to jump right in to it, that’s the way I learn.
I would like a hard hitting spec, high risk, high reward. Maybe a shatter build?
Will do mostly solo roaming, and sometimes duo roaming with a thief. So something that benefit both of us would be nice (moar stealth? :P)
Thanks in advance for any questions!
Mesmer noob, Kenny
Wolf: would you say this works in WvW as well, for solo/2 man roaming? Seems interesting. And what armor would you suggest for this, knights and/or berserker?
Thanks man, will try out the build later on, with executioner and mug.
C-c-c-c-ombo breaker…er..er…
No comments yet? Oh well. Good job Mr. Geiir! Can’t wait to read the rest.
Let’s get this pinned on top of our page!
Yeah, that’s what I thought (about HK).
Yeah, I just thought we could “abuse” all that fury we get. But if one gets enough fury without the runes, I do agree. Thanks for the inputs.
The reason I put the points in trick was the added fury from steal
Everything looks good, except your last trait in shadow arts; Leeching Venoms. You have one venom equipped, and thats your elite. So not worth it. Take Shadows Rejuvenation instead bro :-)
So I was just messing around with the build editor, and came up with this, The Furious Assassin:
Trait wise you have Furious Retaliation for a 13sec fury while your target falls below 50% HP. Then you also have Thrill of the crime, for another 13 sec fury (and might and swiftness). (does fury stack?)
The rune bonus #4, you also have a 25% chance of getting fury when you get hit (IC of 30 sec).
Rune bonus #5 you get 20% fury duration, and also an increase of 5% damage when under the effects of fury.
Rest of the build is self-explanatory.
So with this you would almost get a permanent 20% boost to crit chance.
What do you guys think? Tried out these runes before? And is the fury reliable enough as a source of damage?
Maybe I also could change out Hidden Killer for Executioner, as we will have 60% crit chance with the fury anyways, and you will crit fairly often.
/rambling
Edit: Forgot food and infusions, so that amped up my crit chance to 53%. With almost perm fury this is 73% constant crit chance.

Allright, if you are lazy (I had some spare time on my hands) this is what I am using in this very moment:
I am planning on changing out some of my valk armor for cavaliers tho, since I find the added toughness more valuable then the extra health. Then I also will change out my valk trinkets to all zerker.
Shortbow for second weapon set, I can’t recall how many times it has saved me.
As as starter, have you browsed through the forums? I bet you 5 gold (I got your account name) that you will find what you are looking for by browsing the first five pages.
If you don’t find a meta D/P build within these five first pages, I will mail you your gold. So go ahead, search! ;-)
You could wait until Friday to see who you get on Reset as you have a chance of fighting Gandara.
Not to derail, but this is an interesting comment to me, being as I am on Gandara. Does my server have a particular roamers-a-plenty image or something?
I don’t know why, and don’t quote me on this, but my server (angry zerglings) seems to always talk down to “gandarians”. I think you should take it as a compliment, maybe you guys are hard to fight, I don’t know ;-)
My experience as of fighting gandarians is that I often get runned over by a group of 10 ppl, and they seem pretty happy about taking me down, /dancing and /laughing. A little off topic, and a more generic note, (not pointed against gandara) I’m happy for people finally managing to take down thieves, and that they are so happy that they dance and laugh about it. Good on them!I doubt it’s that we’re hard to fight. There’s a stigma that FSP has about activities which I cannot mention or I’ll get an infraction. Usually when Gandarans mention FSP they also mention that other stuff and the unfair association probably doesn’t go unnoticed, which gains us some hostility in return.
I’m surprised and a bit disappointed that some of our guys did that to you. It’s been my experience that emote spam etc is discouraged here. I even got chastised by my mates once for doing some frustration-induced corpse-jumping. It’s thought of as low class, so it doesn’t happen that much, or at least didn’t use to. Maybe it happened on EB? I only play on the borderlands, and 10 guys sounds more like EB. Things are a bit different there…
I hope you find a server that suits your playstyle.
Yeah, think it was EB. Anyways, don’t worry to much about it, people will always be people, and people can’t be controlled (all the time, lol) ^^
Thank you good Sir, hope I will find me a new home. If not, maybe I will meet you on the battlefield once

As to my original question, I thank you for your answers so far. I also need to convince my roaming buddy. We are a Guild of two (lol), so not a massive transfer.
Hey!
I am on Far Shiverpeaks now. As much as I like it and feel like it’s my “home”, I sadly ever find any small groups or solo roamers out on the battlefield. I stay away from the blobs.
Anyway, is there any servers (EU) you guys could recommend me, that is known for a good roaming environment (if such server exist).
Thanks in advance, Kenny
Hey leet-o! Is it possible to make it available for phone as well?
Midnight dye turns it brown on this armor, have tried that one. But thanks anyway!
Updated armor for me.
Any1 know of a dye that turns my armor real black? This is abyss, and it get’s grey-ish. It’s the material I guess, other armors abyss does its job.
(edited by mompen.7952)
Meet Ken Shadowpaw. Can’t seem to find a dye that turns my armor real black (this is abyss)
I guess he said that because you have stealth on demand, and you can be a really kitten if you just fool around. That aside, d/p has great utility possibilities.
Thank you for those warnings Mr. Sheep.
Looking good those armors, good job.
What cash shop outfit you mean, not the shadow assassin thingy? I thought that looked like a joke, lol :P Nothing assassin about it on the charr.
The search function on these forums are pretty weird i’ve found out. it only searches for the page you are currently looking at I think.
@Hakan: Did you actually mean to use Resilience of Shadows? :P
was thinking of going s/d instead of p/p, but i will be lacking in range quite a lot, and for those runaway eles it comes in handy. Nevertheless I’ll give it a try.
You need a stunbreaker imo. And you don’t really need signet of shadows when running with a zerg, do you? You have a lot of swiftness from the warriors/guardians anyways. So Shadow Step would be nice here.
For 1v1s I wouldnt use more then 1 signet, infiltrators signet, for another shadowstep/stunbreaker.
Normally I can take quite some damage, just that I need to be careful not to withdraw off a cliff or in the middle of the enemy zerg. Conditions aren’t a problem, and the aoe…just dodge away. So, for direct damage, I don’t really feel squishy but if I get stuck somehow, I do melt fast.
Again, stunbreak :-) Shadowstep and/or infiltrators signet.
As for the damage output, it’s decent at the least. With 20% quickness chance on crit, I burst down light and medium armor quite fast, but for heavy, it becomes a pain. Usually when dealing with guards or warriors, I wait for them to buff up, steal the buffs and then pounce on them. They do come down, but it’s slow.
I feel that #3 on sword/dagger will help you here, by stealing the buffs of your enemies, in addition to thrill of the crime :-)
My thoughts:
Maybe change out your second weaponset for sword dagger? With felince grace you already get a lot of dodges, and #3 on your S/D set also makes you evade attacks. And also cloak and dagger for some stealth, which also improves your survivability. It’s not easy to survive in WvW without shadowarts, but S/D will help you a little at least.
You have a lot of (only) soldier armor, how do you experience your damage?
First of all, you are not a noob for asking about builds.
And I don’t know if troll or not, but here’s my take:
Both thief and warrior can be good in WvW, but I would also say they have their weaknesses. Thief don’t bring much to a zerg except blast finishers, ninja-nursing or venom share. Picking up enemies from the back and sides. While a warrior fit the zerg role better, with banners, might sharing etc. Roaming as a warrior are OK I guess, but it’s here the thief excell. You can engage and disengage battles to your likings, and people will hate you for that :P it requires more skill then warrior tho, as warrior have more armor, passive healing (as 99,9% of them use healing signet) and yeah, just generally a more noob friendly approach.
So what do you want? Roam or running with the blob?
Here’s mine, still not 80 but that’s how I plan him to look like..
Actually I made him after I saw how this particular outfit looked like on Charr..
He sure looks like a crazy one, frenzied eyes and all. Cool Good thing he has his mouth guard on place, or else it could get messy :P
What is the name of your outfit?
I don’t know if this is a coincident or not, but I’ve noticed two times last night when I was in WvW, and ran down the Ogre camp, I use HS to move around, and downhill from there it turned me around every time. Weird..
I started running around like this after I got downed. Looked really weird, wish I could tape it :P
This is what I’ve come up with for now.
Wanted it to look like a Predator, but still thiefish.
Also, check the link. That is the last thing my enemy sees before he die
Give us a hollow melee staff! The reason for the hollow part: it is a trick of the ninja trade. By flicking the bow with great speed, the ninja could launch a poison tipped dart or small knife out of the open end of the staff, often catching the opponent off guard.
You also have the NAGINATA (google it), which is basically a staff with a knife attached to the end of it.
It would maybe be a more defensive weapon set, since we don’t have any. With blocks, parries and cc.
Oh well, one can dream
Thank you Vince. I take no credit for the math, that’s all Tree’s work. But for sharing this with you guys, you are quite welcome :-)
A quick picture of my Charr Thief. I’ll try to get a shot with the weapons when I get time.
Cool what gloves are those?
Allright, thank you. Sounds like a good set.
I got to say, dissapointed by the T2 & T3 armor, man. T3 looks like the ascalonian armor you can buy from TP. But then again, maybe more suited for the ranger type, idk.
I gotta mix and match. I was thinking about T1 gloves, the hood, and maybe sneakthief rest. See how that turns out.
@Ryu: That’s not a bad look, good on you. Will def. take those gloves into consideration.
@Mirjan: Lol, that is just awesome. No need for a chest piece, strut that fur!
Forum wars, gotta love it.
Don’t see why people need to macro it, it’s really no biggie to pull of if you practice for 5 minutes with the v+space combo. If you got small hands you can even bind it to, let’s say, c+space.
I like pancakes, a lot. And I also enjoy pack runes. And also strength runes. I enjoy a lot of things apparently.
As for strength runes, I still find them viable. Think I will use another set on my second thief tho, unless the price gets dropped further.
Also armor, berserker. Weapons berserker. Trinkets berserker. Traits go 6 points in the upper two (deadly arts and critical strikes). Last two wherever.
Equip a sword, and a pistol. Use the healing skill signet of malice. Use skill #5 when you are close to melee enemies. Use #3 to attack and avoid all damage within the skill chain. Rinse and repeat, win win.
No wonder you hit like a wet noodle if you forgot your traits xD
A lot have changed since you quit the game, welcome back!
Cool vid, if not a little too long for my likings. But what I saw was nice-y (15 min-ish).
Wonder if it would be cool to drop the music? At least if you want it to bee that long. Just you, the enemy and the world. I don’t know, just popped in my head.
And you use daggerstorm just for the stability it offers? I see you cancel it all the time, so that must be why ;-) You find it worthy as a source of stability on a long CD? It is our only source of stability tho..
So, mind posting your new build? Just interested in having a look at it ;-)
Keep it up, good work
Hello!
I know we are a rare bread, and I am pretty new in the ranks of the Charr (rolled a 2nd thief as a Charr – Ash legion, and that was pretty kitten awesome).
Does any of you charr thieves have any advice on armor sets?
I also posted this in the charr forums:
“…
One problem I have tho, is finding a suitable armor for him. I’m soon hitting 80, and would like to have a plan for what to go for.
I know that this is an issue well known for us.
What I had in mind tho, was the Arah one, and use a total makeover kit for the tube-thingy hair, and the glowing eyes. That’s not very thief-ish, but it will make him look like a “Predator” from the movies.. And can’t say I have seen this look before

Hello!
Let me just start to say: Charr are awesome!! I have a human male thief, and decided to also make a charr one. I rolled Ash legion, and it didn’t disappoint me!
One problem I have tho, is finding a suitable armor for him. I’m soon hitting 80, and would like to have a plan for what to go for.

But any inputs are welcome for my search!
This question appears at least 2 times a week, if you are bothered to browse max 5 pages, you will find many hints and answers to your questions.
If you don’t find any, I will see what I can do when I get home :P
All honor to Tree for posting this:
Have in mind this is from a warriors viewpoint, but I think it pretty much sums it up
“originally posted: http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/13612527-strength-runes-vs-scholar-groups-solo
Hey all. Wanted to show how the strength rune nerf played out in actual terms. So I ran the comparison to scholar in both solo and group DPS.
Solo Assumptions: Banner of Discipline (100% for simplicity sake), 23 Might for strength runes, 17 Might for Scholar, 3 Vuln on average. Greatsword Camping rotation, Curry Butternut Squash Soup, 65003 build, Scholar Runes 100% uptime. 100% bleeding uptime, Fury 100%.
Group Assumptions: Both banners, 25 Might, 25 Vuln, GS Camp rotation (for simplicity) CBN Soup, 65003, Scholar Runes 100% uptime, 100% bleeding uptime, Fury 100%
Solo Strength Rune Post Nerf: 8,187 DPS
Solo Strength Runes Pre Nerf: 8,343 DPS
Solo Scholar Runes: 8,170.22 DPS
Group Strength Runes Post Nerf: 10,616 DPS
Group Strength Runes Pre Nerf: 10,818 DPS
Group Scholar Runes: 11,364 DPS
Conclusion: The nerf wasn’t terrble in terms of whole numbers to be honest. In a solo setting you lose less than 200 DPS, which is probably only vaguely noticeable. The big change is that they are essentially the same as Scholar when solo, assuming you can keep Scholar uptime at 100%. Any Scholar downtime will obviously drastically lower the DPS. But the end result for solo play is if you already have Scholar there is no real need to buy Strength runes unless your goal is to push solo boss kill times as far as possible.
For groups, scholar was always clearly better, now much more so, by about 7% instead of 5%. This just confirms the superiority of Scholar for group play, especially since fights are short enough that maintaining scholar bonus is significantly easier.
The total conclusion, for me, is that Strength Runes have become niche for pro solo’ers rather than the go-to rune for everything. I didn’t feel bad before about using Strength in a group, but I likely would now. And before I would have considered the advantage of Strength over Scholar in solos (3%-7%) to make using Strength for everything a fairly smart move. Now, I would only recommend Strength if your main gameplay is solos AND you care about pushing times. If you enjoy doing solos but you aren’t out to compete with Dub, Goku or Miku you should probably just use Scholar."
So as you can see, the damage is a bit lower,(du-uh) but if you have spent a lot of gold on this set, you can still use it and be effective.
