Let’s take an example. I am at least level 150 on my crafts, so I don’t need Tier 1 and 2 materials any more. So, if I get Iron Ore, I just sell on the TP. Currently, I get 1s 10c from the highest buy order. But the lowest sell is 1s 33c. So maybe I’ll try listing them at 1s 32c tonight and see what happens.

It will definitely move at 1s 32c. Iron is a high velocity market thanks to its use in Ascended crafting.

Just an FYI, you may be level 150, but Tiers 2-6 are all used in large quantities in level 500 crafting so you may want to reconsider selling your Iron.

Tier 1 is currently left out, but that may change.

Suggestion: District System (for MegaServer)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mtpelion.4562

mtpelion.4562

I don’t think district system doesn’t work well in GW2 despite when I heard the suggestion for the first time I also agreed with the idea. The reason why I think this doesn’t work is really it opens up abuse of the system. You can flip district to district to gather permanent rich ore nodes without ever move or use WP. You can do the same for events and champions.

For the nodes, a fix would be to make the locations tied to the map not the instance, so if you mined them all on District 1, they’d all be mined on every District of that map so switching wouldn’t let you get more nodes.

For events and champs, perhaps a District switching CD would work, so that if you switched Districts in the last hour you can’t switch again until the hour expires?

Those sound like good rules of thumb, especially the first, as I don’t buy anything off the TP anyway. I was indeed one of those ‘suckers’

Like any rule of thumb, they have exceptions, especially if a market is moving very fast and you need to get in or out NOW. For most of the time though, they work great.

My rule of thumb:

NEVER sell to a buy offer. Buy offers are for “suckers” who want quick coin and are willing to trade away profit for speed. At a minimum, match the lowest sell offer.

My other rule of thumb:

ALWAYS buy using offers. Sell listings are for “suckers” who want quick items and are willing to spend more for speed.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have at least one of every class, and all of them at 80 except Engineer (got to level 73, can’t make myself spend any more time on the class).

There are some that I like and some that I don’t, but my like and dislike list is typically based on the type of content I want to do (exception: Engineer, which I don’t like in anything), not on the class itself.

The only class that I really have no complaints with is Warrior. It is very strong in most areas, and definitely not the weakest in the others so it is an overall good class to play in every type of content if you are only going to play one class.

To backtrack a bit: mtpelion, I really liked your story. Kudos to you for writing it.

I think the complaints of the adventurer and farmer were misrepresented in the story though. What they REALLY wanted was for the fruits of their labor (i.e. time spent in game) to yield the same rewards as that of the merchant.

I wouldn’t say they were misrepresented, I merely represented one subset in order to tell a cautionary tale.

There are definitely other sides to every position, they just didn’t apply to my narrative.

Thanks for the compliment though!

With the influx of new players from the recent sales event and the release of the game in China. How if it all do you see this effecting the global economy of the game. I myself believe that we will see some significant changes in items at static price points. What are everyone else’s thoughts on this?

China will be seperated from our market, so it will have NULL influence

I had no idea that was the case. Seems odd to me. I thought the economy in the game was global. Any idea why they are going to have a separate economy?

It’s going to be a separate game. China has a lot of governmental restrictions on things that will require significant alterations to nearly every aspect of the game. These alterations are a major reason I’m sure.

The other issue would be the economic shock that would happen if you added several billion people to the economy (potentially, obviously it won’t be that high) all at one time.

Thanks. I was actually thinking of the gear. Can you give any rough examples of things worth crafting. just to give me a flavor for the sort of stuff you’re talking about?

Due to the ebb and flow of the markets, it won’t be the same thing every day.

Insignias/Inscriptions tend to be profitable, but not in high volume (i.e. you can squeeze some gold out of low demand insignias because the materials are also low demand, but since they are low demand you are only going to move a few of them).

Other things would be items that appear on the crafting guide lists. Players that use those guides aren’t doing any shopping, they are just following a checklist so you can craft items and sell them to those players.

Selling expensive equipment -noob question-

Not to hijack this thread OP, but I could also use tips on selling Wintersbark. I crafted it a month ago, listed for 300, got undercut several times for 5g+ with the item now selling at 250. Highest buy is 170, but that really doesn’t even cover the cost of crafting between the 1000 ancient planks, 250 ori ingots, 50 corrupted and 50 glacial lodes. With the wardrobe addition I imagined it would be more highly sought, especially since it’s the skin of ele’s conjured Frost Bow, but nope.

My guess is that someone got their buy order filled and flipped it back onto the market. They undercut you to try and get a quicker sale before the profit dries up.

For the record, buying that item for 170g and selling it for 250g would result in a 42g profit.

No, farmers and adventurers are complaining that they are unable to make applesauce with bananas.

To make applesauce, you must use apples.

To make gold, you must use the TP.

Which is why people are complaining. People actually get rewarded for just farming and adventure in other game. And in this game just like you said, they literally have nothing to show for compare to the merchant.

And the button line is Wanze did get rewarded for what he is doing, which is being a merchant. And dont’ tell me Wanze having a beautiful house isn’t a reward.

In this game, you still can get every reward in the game by adventuring or farming. If you don’t want to take that long, you can also trade away your things for gold, then trade that gold for the thing you want. Most other games don’t allow you to do that and force you to grind out everything for yourself.

Bottom line, Wanze is enjoying the rewards of other players because they GAVE him their rewards because they wanted to. If Wanze has a nice house, it is because the players of this game rewarded him, not the game. The game ONLY rewards adventuring and farming.

First of all i dont get how you made some connection to me looking at other peoples rewards, from that quote or any thing i have said.

I challenged someone’s use of wealth disparity (looking at other people’s rewards), you replied to that, then I replied to you. That’s where the connection came from. Sorry if that’s not what you were talking about, I assumed it was related based on the chain of quoting.

its not about the rewards that other people get. Its about what most people have to do to get them. In order to get endgame rewards at a bearable pace, one must grind gold. If your goal is to get said endgame shineys, you must become a merchant or a hardcore grinder. Rewards are designed with this in mind.

All rewards are created by adventuring or farming. If you want to get them from another player, you have to offer something that they want. To this end, gold acts as an exchange medium that allows you to convert your apples into The Most Awesome Sword of All Time. Will converting apples take a long time? Yes. If that is a problem for you, then don’t farm apple, farm something else.

The fact that the TP is incredibly more effecient at getting these items, detracts from the other content. It makes people play the game in ways that dont reinforce gameplay. Instead of the rewards leading you to the type of gameplay that fits them, they lead you away from it.

Exchange systems are always more efficient, that’s why people invented them. If you had to make bricks to pay your brain surgeon, you’d never get your surgery. They are a tool that you use to get what you want. They are not rewards in and of themselves.

ya sure so magically Wanz have like 60k asset since he dont’ get rewarded from TP at all.

I think you have some point about not easy to profit from the TP. But you are forgetting the main point.

You literally says yourself, farmers and adventurer aren’t rewarded in your story. Which is the main reason why people are complaining. I don’t think your story applied in other mmorpg, because people’ll actually tell you they are rewarded for adventure or farming.

Wanze doesn’t get rewarded by the TP. Other players are giving him their rewards as a trade for things they want. That’s how he builds his house. The TP does not create any rewards at all, it is an exchange tool that lets you give away stuff you don’t want for stuff you do want.

Adventurers and Farmers get rewarded for doing adventuring and farming. Those rewards get traded for gold or used. If they want to trade for gold, they have to use the proper tool, which is the TP.

^ cool story bro. I’m sure most mmorpg have a TP and no one is complaining about the merchant there.

Most (all?) MMORPGs don’t have a forum for talking about their economy. ArenaNet is quite different in that they are willing to actually talk about this topic, whereas other games simply delete those posts.

EDIT: Yes, the moral of the story is that the TP is a tool that you can use to build the things you want. The tool is available to everyone.

you mean like Arena deleting the suggesting forum. So no one is suggesting on the main forum?

No, people arn’t complaining about the TP, people are complaining the way the game is designed, flippers have such a huge advantage in this game compare to other games.

It isn’t as easy to gain money from the TP in other games.

And you already pointed out the problem, adventure and farmers arn’t reward in this game. I’m pretty sure they are equal if not more rewarded than merchant in other game.

Actually, this is the MMO that is the most difficult to make profit using the TP of any MMO I’ve ever played, primarily because the servers all share the same economy and there aren’t a bunch of arbitrary restrictions that can be exploited.

They deleted the suggestion thread because it was chaos. You leave your suggestions in the relevant forum now.

As for rewards, adventuring and farming are the only way to get rewards in this game. Playing the TP does not provide any rewards at all.

do you think people would be happy living at minimal standards in real life?

game life sustenance health care etc, comes down to enjoying the game. If many people start to find the game unenjoyable due to the reward structure, that is a problem.

Rewards are supposed to enhance your experience, not hinder it.

There is no particularly polite way to put this, but I’ll try my best:

If the rewards that other people get are able to detract from the rewards that you got simply because you noticed those rewards, you need professional psychiatric help because that is NOT normal.

The rewards that other people get in this game have ABSOLUTELY no bearing on the rewards you get. Enjoy the rewards you get and ignore what others are getting because others are not impacting you.

The two men set out across town to the merchant’s home. When they arrived, they saw a magnificent home surrounded by exquisite gardens. Upon seeing them, the merchant ran out of the house and greeted them warmly, “Hello my old friends! How have you fared?” he asked. “Times have not been kind to me”, lamented the adventurer. “I live in a hovel and have nothing to show for my efforts”. “Oh my, I’m sorry to hear that” consoled the merchant, “I had heard that you were having a great time out in the world adventuring, what changed?”. “Well, I came to town and saw what the farmer had built and realized that my chosen path didn’t aid me in building a home”, replied the adventurer. “To add to that” inserted the farmer, “I too am now more than a little unhappy. I have been toiling away with my hammer for some time now and my home is still not complete, yet here you are enjoying a luxurious mansion”. “I’m sorry to hear that as well farmer”, said the merchant, “If you want, I can get the wizard here today to give each of you a wand so that you can quickly finish your homes”. “I’d still rather not”, said the adventurer and farmer together. “We still prefer our methods, we just think it isn’t right that your method worked out so much better”.

The farmer and the adventurer bid farewell to the merchant and began walking home. “It isn’t right at all”, proclaimed the adventurer. “I should be able to spend my time exploring and have a wonderful home to return to!”. “I agree”, the farmer concurred. “Those wands are dangerous!” “I know what we can do, let’s get the wands banned!”.

The farmer set out to rally the people of the city to his side. He frequently gave tours to the merchant’s lovely home and incited the masses with jealousy over the nice things that the merchant had acquired using the wand. Soon, there was a public outcry about the dangers of the wands. The adventurer has having a bit less luck trying to convince the wizard about the wand though. Every day, the adventurer showed up at the wizard’s tower demanding to see the wizard. On the days he was granted an audience, he explained how he was unable to build his home out of sticks and rocks and the wand was therefore an evil tool. The wizard would always reply “No”, and send him away.

Eventually, the masses became so angry about the wands that they went to the king. The king heard their pleas and asked them what they would have him do to appease them. “We demand that the merchants be cast out of the town and all the wands destroyed for their evil magics!” the people shouted. Weary about the current state of his gem mines and the incursions from some foreign lands, the king decided to acquiesce to the people’s demands.

The next day, the merchant and the other wand users were taken out of the city, their homes were burnt to the ground and the wands were all destroyed. The people were overjoyed that their own homes now looked much nicer without all those mansions to compare them to. “Finally, we are free from the evil of the wands!”

It wasn’t long before that joy turned into terror though, as without the wands’ power to strengthen the homes around them, all of the houses in the kingdom began to collapse and fall upon the people, killing them in their beds. Within a few short weeks, the people were gone and the kingdom lay in ruins.

A badly wounded adventurer crawled his way to the wizard’s tower and begged to be allowed in. The wizard came to the door, his suitcase in hand as he was just about to move to a new country. “Please,” begged the adventurer, “Please help me! Please help the kingdom!”. The wizard looked at the pathetic man laying on his doorstep. “No”.

Once upon a time there was a kingdom that was ruled by a king. Three men went to find the king because they wanted to live in the wonderful kingdom the king had built.

The three men came before the king and asked if they may live in his kingdom. “Of course, all are welcome here!” said the king. “Here are the titles to three equal sized plots of land, go and build your homes.”

As the men were leaving the castle, the king’s wizard approached them, “Sirs, before you leave I’d like to give each of you a magic wand that will help you build your homes. This wand will allow you to move the lumber into place and magically nail the boards together so that you can quickly finish your home.”

The first man replied “I am an adventurer, I don’t have time for learning how to use magical trinkets. Keep the wand, I’ll use the sticks and rocks I find out in the wild”.

The second man said “I am a farmer and am familiar with using tools. I’ll just use my hammer to build my home.”

The third man, a merchant, said “I will gladly accept your generous offer wizard, is there anything else I should know about this wand?”

The wizard replied “Yes, there is one thing. Even though your friends did not accept the wand, every time you use yours, it will make their homes stronger and able to withstand the elements”. “That’s nonsense” exclaimed the adventurer. The wizard glanced at the adventurer and tersely replied “No”.

The three men then went to their new lands and worked on their homes.

One day, the happy adventurer was walking through the town and thinking about how much he enjoyed wandering the wastes and seeing new things. As it was, he came upon the farmer’s house. Upon seeing that the farmer’s home was halfway done it occurred to him that his own home was merely a pile of broken sticks and rocks. His previous thoughts of joy quickly soured. “Farmer!” He shouted, “how came it to be that you’ve managed to build such a nice home while I live in a hovel?”. The farmer replied “I’ve worked hard and relied upon my tools to build this home. I can show you how to use a hammer, if you want”. The adventurer considered the offer, but decided that using a hammer wasn’t exciting enough for him. “I’ll not use your hammer farmer, but can you show me the way to the merchant’s home? Perhaps he can help me”. The farmer considered the request, “Yes, I can show you the way. I haven’t seen the merchant since we all last met and it would be good to visit him again”.

why can’t you use wealth disparity in GW2 when we use things like inflation, supply/demand, etc which have just as many variables as disparity in real life that are not taken into account in GW2?

fact is, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, there is just no way a new player nowadays is able to compete in this market, because those who already possess a fortune will be making more money out of that market, and the barriers of entry are higher and higher as more gold sources are nerfed and removed.

Rich players are unable to negatively impact poor players in a game because things like sustenance, healthcare, housing, and employment don’t exist. That is why wealth disparity is irrelevant in a game.

Well, ArenaNet didn’t make using the TP an easy way to gain huge money; making “easy” money on the TP is a direct result of all those other players who want to buy or sell now. There isn’t a thing ArenaNet can do to make those players not want to buy or sell now, so the only way to limit TP revenue is to ban people from buying and selling.

Since the patch I have noticed, despite propaganda by anet, I am not being placed in servers with my guildies, friends, and people I generally have come to recognize on my home server. I can only think the algorithm for matching “affinities” did not begin until after the patch, in which case would not create “affinity” with any known people – because they are now on a different megaserver!

I do like the effort in increasing population in dead zones however.

A statement about how something is supposed to work is not “propaganda”. If it isn’t working as advertised then YOU need to report it as a BUG.

I soloed Grenth priest phase several times because of the scaling so its not that they COULDNT do it or the events…Its probably that they were too lazy or didn’t have anyone holding their frickin hand telling them where to go next. Big picture is much less loot and much longer wait times for world boss events. Big picture is they put a lot of time and effort into BS that didn’t need to be fixed when they should’ve worked on buggy events and a new expansion instead of the BS living story nonsense….-Metle

I see you still aren’t understanding the issue because you are looking at it from your own perspective.

Your server has a healthy population.

Most servers do not.

Healthy servers can do round the clock world bosses because they have enough people round the clock.

Small servers (the majority of them) can do only those world bosses that fall within the 1-2 hour window that has the peak population.

With the schedule and megaserver system, everyone has equal access to world bosses, so the number of players killing world bosses has the potential to increase overall.

But paying to simply shift between gear you already own feels…wrong to me.

So clear a map instead?

It’s pretty easy to get free transmutations. They simply allow you to skip playing the game by paying, if you want to speed up the process.

That’s total BS…Used to be able to farm all world bosses within a 2.5 -3 hour timer range…Now its minimum of 8 hours to farm the same amount. Anet needs to fix this system or I and many other guild leaders who USED to run PVE trains will be leaving!!! I made jack and squat last night and sat around waiting for bosses to pop for way way too long. The game has now become a time sink if you actually want to do world meta events. ANET did this in order to sell more gems plain and simple but when you push away your loyal player base with idiotic changes such as this you are cutting your own greedy throats in the process!! A game I once loved to play is quickly becoming one I loath because of the failed and unnecessary changes…IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT numnuts!! -METLE

Right… YOU made less because YOU used to do it a lot. Meanwhile OTHERS have the potential to make more because OTHERS now have access that didn’t exist before.

Before, a small number of people did the world bosses often while a large number of people never did them at all (because they couldn’t).
After, a large number of people can do the world bosses while a small number of people can do them less often.

It’s a change that can benefit the entire game overall, at the expense of people like you. I know it sucks to be the guy who gets kicked, but it had to happen or else the server population distribution issue would kill the game and then we’d all be out.

I’m still waiting for the deflation effect to kick in.

Deflation and Inflation do not happen overnight. Expect a lag of at least 3 weeks (possibly much longer depending on the rate of increase/decrease).

Then add in a trade post like the original guild wars…. You see this inflation with ectos and precursors? I cant imagine how much a precursor would be if we can actually get them or trade for them… This transaction system is just a monopoly.. It doesnt create competition or anything….. I like gold farming and killing monsters I dont like doing pvp… I shouldnt be punished for it

You aren’t being punished.

Here is an example of the WORST case scenario for you (it assumes 10 gold since that is a nice number to work with for math purposes) :

You used to be able to farm 10 gold per hour.
Due to the “nerf”, you now can farm 9 gold per hour.
You used to be able to buy 100 Cool Fun Things for 10 gold.
Due to the reduction in gold supply caused by the “nerf”, you can now buy 100 Cool Fun Things for 9 gold.

Before, one hour’s time could buy you 100 Cool Fun Things.
After, one hour’s time still buys you 100 Cool Fun Things.
Gold is nothing other than what it can buy. The fact that gold used to be 10 but is now 9 means nothing because you can still buy the same 100 Cool Fun Things with it.

Gold farming creates inflation, thus it is bad for the economy.

Gold creation is necessary though, thus it is also good for the economy.

The trick is to allow for gold creation at a rate that is good but not at a rate that is bad.

Ive been running world boss trains every night for nearly 2 years now. Normally if planned correctly and depending on whether or not the events are not BUGGED…We can tag every world boss and temple within 2.5-3 hours time. I call events not just to my guild but everyone on SoS server in mapchat along with 2 other guild leaders. It was the quickest and most fun way to make gold in this game. Now ….it takes 4 hours to tag only half of the bosses we used to do making it MUCH less efficient not to mention having to stand around and wait forever for next event to spawn. It was a great way to get the community directly involved and give us PVE guild leaders/commanders something more productive to do other than WvW. Now in order to get all of the world train bosses its not a matter of a quick 2.5 hour run and nearly NO waiting time between events. We would have to sit around for nearly 9 hours in order to achieve the same goal. I speak for myself and EVERY other major PVE guild leader and active player on SoS when I say you guys really screwed up on this one. You are about to lose some of your most active and loyal players many of which have been leading the local PVE community through events since nearly the release of the game. My thinking is ….much longer spawn time between major world bosses=much less rares and ectos flooding the market which means more people buying up gems from your store because they can no longer farm gold as efficiently. SO …are you going to listen to the community and make this right ? Or watch some of the most active players and guilds walk away from the game over night? -Metle

More players are actually able to do world bosses now, so ectos have three possible influences:
1. The number of additional players doing world bosses will increase and offset your decreased access, prices remain stable
2. The number of additional players doing world bosses will increase, but not enough to offset your decreased access, lower supply means higher prices.
3. The number of additional players doing world bosses will increase and more than offset your decreased access, higher supply means lower prices.

We have to wait and see which of these it winds up being, but you are looking at only your part of the equation (decreased access) and not the whole picture.

Actually, the more gold there is in the game, the more expensive items become right? As for the super-rich TP traders, what can you do? The 1% exists even in real life.

60% tax on anyone that’s super rich.

I know people that have 30 000 gold and gladly manipulate it. Gold has been taken out of f the economy, but as long as 1% are there prices will continue to rise instead of falling.

That will lead to prices going up but your income remaining just as low. Enjoy being EVEN POORER than you were before.

I as well have been become a victim of this as well. Like Mike, (lol I remember that movie) I dont have any viruses or keyloggers, and this is the first time this has happened as well. Changed passwords on both my personal email and game account, filed a support ticket. Is there anything else I can to do be safe?

Do you use a smartphone?
Its possible that your phone may be compromised and that’s how they got your information.

Otherwise, be sure to use at least the email authentication option for your account. The Two Factor would be safer yet.
