I fully agree with them doing this, kitten -10 pugs not on TS doing the wrong things could make the event fail for the other 100-120 players.
And that’s a flaw in the content design which should be addressed. It is not, however, a valid reason to not fix the population distribution issue.
TTS was formed to address a problem. One would think that the members of TTS would be overjoyed on the day when their guild becomes optional rather than required.
many people are already duplicating dyes to get UNID dyes. i expect the price to plummet on the patch day due to the market flooded with it , but will go up again not long after that.
Everyone is assuming this, but what if the UIDs Anet provides us are account bound (PvP type UID dyes)? Not saying this is going to happen, but the response would be “interesting” to watch….
No skin off my nose. I’ll just cancel my low buy orders since the price won’t drop.
Absolutely I am…..When MF gear was a thing I ran full MF gear + MF infusion, my base account MF is 152% and after my normal boosts I’m over 300% MF and even with that zergging in WvW or the Champ train in Frostgorge or any other large event my loot tends towards blues and greens, maybe 2-3 rares and sometime once or twice a month I might get an exotic drop. Maybe, if that.
Because of my crap drops even with MF well up there it really makes me think that there is something somewhere in the system that screws with the drops of certain accounts. That or MF is a placebo.
Magic Find ONLY works on mob drops. The reason you are seeing bad loot is because you are killing champs. Champ loot is NOT affected by Magic Find because it comes from containers.
To get the most benefit from Magic Find, you need to be doing Dynamic Events that spawn a lot of monsters to kill.
This feels a bit like tearing down St Paul’s Cathedral and replacing it with a Christian Processing Mega-Facility.
Sure you get to process a lot more Christians, a lot more efficiently but you can’t quantify what you have lost. So it’s impossible to argue against, it happens, we all deal with it and two years later no-one can remember what it was like before.
Stupid progress.
It might feel like St Paul’s Cathedral on your server, but on the majority of them this is more akin to bulldozing a giant abandoned slum.
I’ll be honest.. I don’t really know how the GW2 economy works which is partly why I created this post to get some feedback. Is it better to increase the gold sink or decrease the influx of gold into the game (tax the tp over slight champ bag nerf)? How would adding a 1% tax to the tp change the game economy? Will it be enough to significantly alter prices of goods listed on the tp? I don’t play the tp so maybe someone who knows this economy better can chime in. Maybe I should change the title because people seem to go crazy when the word tax is mentioned.
Basically, while the TP tycoons may be sitting on fat stacks of coin, they get that coin from everyone who buys things. If you increase the cost of the transaction (i.e., increasing the tax), the guy who is selling (the “rich”) is simply going to raise his prices and the guy who is buying (the “poor”) is going to wind up spending even more money to get the same thing.
The reason they are targeting the champion bags is because that is passive income. You aren’t doing it for the gold, the gold is just an added, inflationary, bonus. By nipping that flow of “unearned” gold, they can stem inflation without seriously impacting the people who are targeting gold with their playstyle.
“Tax the Rich” always results in “Tax the Poor” because the rich will simply push those new costs down to the consumers (the ones who recently have taken to calling themselves the “99%”).
People who want to “tax the rich” simply don’t understand how economies work.
I wish that the crafting was learned by the account instead of the individual characters, though I understand why it isn’t.
And before you blast my preference, yes, I acknowledge that other people would hate this, but I’m not those people and am only speaking to the way I wish it was :P
The fused gauntlets don’t change look per weight class, so I’m positive it’ll wind up unlocking for light, medium, and heavy no matter what you chose.
I hope so. I used mine on my Ranger (my only 80 at the time) and it really doesn’t work well with any of my medium armor characters now.
I ran the Pirate one a few days ago and I died 3 times (finally used a revive orb). I don’t know if i was just out of practice (had not run it in a while) or they have made the slide down into "Chompy"s pool more likely to kill you. It appeared to me they had changed the timing on the spiked hallways as well, but again, I had not run it since before Wintersday started.
There are 3 JPs in LA to do Troll’s End has a few very frustrating sections and is a bit longish but the one behind to Ogre in the far EAST cave is quite simple and very quick.
Mystic Flushing Nuggets and Marks also has a chance of generating SDs.
The slide is definitely bugged. I ran it about 20 times yesterday and the only time I made it was when I retraited to reduce fall damage.
Pre Battle for Lion’s Arch, I ran it all the time and never got killed on the slide.
Remember, you just need to farm lots and lots of mobs to have lots and lots of chances.
Unfortunately, with the megaservers hitting on April 15th this will not be possible anymore.
I.. wha.. That doesn’t make any sense.
Grats on your precursor, but if anything, megaservers and new boss timing are going to up your chances of getting into an active zone, which means more chances at boss loot drops, and large numbers of mobs during events so you can get that .000000001% chance of a precursor drop. (Or .000000004% if you have max magic find :P)
Vol is speaking from the perspective of a guy from a large server who guests to medium servers to maximize his kills per hour.
From his perspective, the change will reduce his maximum drops per hour pretty significantly since he must now wait for the map he is in to reset the events instead of jumping to a map where the events haven’t been started and are waiting.
From my perspective, the change will increase my drops per hour because I can actually do the events now since I will be playing with other people (you can’t solo most of the farming events).
I LOVE the set schedules for world bosses as it will make it easier to do them regularly. Of course, this is coming from a very small server where I normally only get to fight 1 or 2 bosses a day thanks to the fact they cannot be soloed and thus only go down during the 1 hour peak time when 7 people attempt them.
I understand that a lot of people are unhappy about this because they were currently getting a ton of kills in and the new schedule will cap them, so I propose a compromise:
Make all World Bosses tied to an event chain like the Modniir Ulgoth.
The event chain can be started at any time (if it is in the initial position) and will work its way forward or backwards based on success or failure of each event. Once the boss is spawned and killed, the beginning event will be available to be restarted in 10 minutes.
This would mean that there would be no schedule OR timers, but every boss would be available essentially “on demand”, all you have to do is the events. With the populations being merged, every instance of a map should have no problem doing the events and killing the boss.
If you are on a server (or guesting to one) with RPers, in a guild with RPers, and have RPers on your friends list, then you are going to be placed in maps with RPers.
If anything, this change will make it easier to play with other RPers since you can now use the guild and friend list to play with fellow RPers whereas before you could only use the server.
Are there going to be more non-RPers around? Sure, but that’s a function of there being more non-RPers playing the game overall.
I really think you guys are blowing this way out of proportion. Especially considering that ArenaNet has already said this is going to be a work in process that requires tweaking.
I understand you’re concerned, that’s a natural reaction to change, but I think you’d benefit from taking a step back and realizing that nothing bad has happened (yet), so there isn’t any reason to get so worked up.
The goal of this change is to make it easier to play with similar players, it seems absurd to me that your natural assumption then is to believe that it will make it harder to play with similar players.
It will not double the waypoint fees, but it will increase them in the following scenario:
You are in Map A and want to go to Map B, Waypoint 7, which is a Waypoint that can be contested by an event.
You will have to go to Map B, Waypoint 6 costing xSilver, then once you are there go to Waypoint 7 (costing some more Silver, but not the same amount since the distance is less).
Essentially, using Black Lion Keys will ALWAYS be a financial loss, but that loss is mitigated by the cosmetic/booster items based on how highly you value those things.
If you feel that your loss is compensated by the Mystery Tonics or XP Boosters that you get, then go for it. If you are expecting to make a profit though, avoid them like death.
My only suggestion for improving these changes (honestly, I love all of them. Despite all the doom and gloom going on in here, these changes will be net positive for everyone, based on the information already provided.) is this:
I’m OK with dungeon entrances being locked by events, but the Waypoints to the entrances should be free. For example, if I am in Rata Sum and want to go to Arah, let me WP to Cursed Shores (to the only open WP), then let me WP to the dungeon entrance for 0c (if it is open).
I thought they meant if the Waypoint could be contested normally, it would appear so unless you were on that map. If every single waypoint in the game appears contested except the ones on your current map I’m leaving this game plain and simple.
Only Waypoints that CAN be contested will be affected by this change.
Most Waypoints cannot be contested, though Orr is the outlier since almost all Waypoints there can be contested.
I have to believe that the people crying about the WP costs all come from large servers. This is truly a first world problem.
Those of us unlucky enough to be on the other 80% of the servers have had this problem for months and we never complained.
Of course, we also never went to Orr since there weren’t enough people to do any events, but that’s what this idea solves.
Know all sources for an item
All good advice from Schizo. I singled this one out because it is CRITICALLY important.
If you don’t know all the sources for an item you WILL get burned.
I really don’t want to memorize the new event schedule. Will the Event APIs be updated to support the new system?
It hope it would be possible to do the following:
- Create a new World Boss API that omits the ability to specify a World, and returns the state of the World Boss events according to the new schedule.
- To grandfather in all the existing event trackers, the current Event API functions could simply ignore the World parameter.
A World Boss is spawned every 15 minutes. Memorizing it won’t be necessary unless you are particular about which bosses you fight.
The event timer sites can now be simplified and show the countdown until the next time each individual boss spawns, as well as which boss is coming up next.
What will this do to guesting to other servers or will there even be a need?
Guesting to another server will make you more likely to be placed on a map with people from that server as opposed to people from your own server.
At least that’s the interpretation I came to.
We don’t want that with Shatterer preevents. One of them (gathering supplies) is easily and quickly doable if only one person is doing it. Zerging it (which would happen if there were some extra rewards attached) upscales it into something that takes longer than the main boss event.
That’s a flaw with the individual event design, not with the reward design suggested above.
I think for each pre event you complete, you should be guaranteed a rare from the boss chest.
Hi,
I left the game over a year ago and came back recently. The Mac Client was Beta when I left, and is still Beta. How come? Betas don’t usually last more than a year
Because they haven’t devoted any time or effort into developing the Mac Client.
Probably related to the low usage of the Mac Client not justifying the expense.
Sorry, but I disagree.
I fully understand what Anet has said so far, and this change will drastically change the way I play this game to the extent I will leave the game.
Right now I only do dailies/monthlies and the 2 world mega-bosses – Teq and Wurm. That is it. There is nothing else that interests me anymore.
I do these 2 events on a semi-daily basis, with TxS, This change means we will no longer be able to organise for and do these events in our accustomed way. Despite the loot being utter crap, particularly with Wurm, many in the guild still enjoy doing this, as much for the social camaraderie as for the challenge.
If Anet changes these 2 events, i.e. dumbs them down to accommodate the megaserver changes. they will become as meaningless kittenterer or Maw and there will be no reason for TxS to exist.
You clearly don’t understand what they’ve said if that is the conclusion you have arrived at.
They are designing the maps to use your guild, friend list, and server to group you with other players. You will find it EASIER to play with other members of TxS because the system will automatically group you guys together.
I personally like the proposed change. I was tired of logging in to do something as easy as Jormag or the Shatterer and finding only one or two other people on the map.
Reading through the posts, in my opinion, the majority of people who dislike the idea, are those that would splinter the player base. Those people who feel that “noobs” and sub optimal builds should be blocked from their personal Tequatl overflow. How RP players should have their own section. People who want to play with only “their” community. Sure, this community may not be marked as friends or guild members.. but they are still better then the noobs from those other home servers.
In my opinion, its a Guild Wars 2 community and we ALL are part of it. Noobs, hard core players, RPers, no matter what home server you are from. I’m tired of elitists.
Those people are misunderstanding how this will work.
The people they play with now are still going to be playing with them, and if they were frequently getting into overflows before, they will now be playing with people from their friend list, guild, and server more instead of with random people from all over.
The RPers are mad for no reason. They will still be playing with other RPers.
The elitists are always mad, and always for no reason. This won’t change that.
There are some people who understand the system and have valid concerns, and they are getting drowned out by those who simply don’t understand the basics of this new system.
If the game had launched with this feature it would have been great, however it is really nothing more than a glorified server merger at this point, hardly new or exciting. The few high pop servers will notice no difference except that it will be harder to organize events, farm, and do guild missions. The low pop servers that this merger is really for will have a much improved experience, the same as if servers were merged.
It basically comes down to the fact that actually merging servers would have destroyed what was left of WvW so they went with this alternative approach.
Just because it isn’t new doesn’t mean it isn’t a great idea.
Honestly, the concept of separating your players into segments by server is incredibly outdated. They relied on it for the WvW so they are stuck with it in theory, but I applaud their efforts to mask it in the rest of the game.
I have a question. Is the megaserver a reaction to the fact that the game is losing player? Hence by doing that the player will have the feel that there is more player to play with?
Just curious
Some servers have very, very low population. This is because ArenaNet offered transfers before WvW Season 1, so a lot of players flocked to the server they thought they could get the best chance of winning on. This large population shift left many servers depleted, so the players who were left on the server lost interest in the game since no one was online to play with them.
The Megaserver solution will combine those depleted servers onto the same map so that everyone gets to experience playing with others, not just the few big servers.
Hmm…Just noticed both upcoming blog posts are to be released today!
I’m sure ArenaNet is just as surprised as I am at the wave of negative posts following the announcement of one of the best ideas in gaming history.
I’ve been over this whole thread and noticed a common trend amongst the angry posts… and that is a mischaracterization or misunderstanding of what was said.
I’m sure they are speeding up the delivery of the information in order to put those two problems to rest and open the floor up to legitimate questions about how the system will work.
I have no doubt at all that this will be a purely positive experience for many players, and at worst a neutral change for others.
Unfortunately, I recently had 3 rare desirable dyes drop – Abyss, Midnight Ice and White.
I already have all 3 of these unlocked, but selling these now at the current depressed prices seems such a waste.
I am really in a quandary over what to do with these dyes, as they seems to loose more value every day.
They are probably going to be worth less after the 15th since demand for individual colors is going to plummet (since you will only need them once).
You’re gambling either way (holding or selling), but if it was me, I’d try to sell them now.
I don’t care if half the posters under me start throwing rocks at me but I am sorry to say I am giving Anet one last chance after the big fancy patch with lots of glitter to announce a big news with lots of new content because I am sick and tired of to log each day to do the same crap over and over and over…
EVERYBODY I know left this game and I don’t have enough arguments left to make people come back to play. I don’t know if Anet realizes that if this goes on with new skins and crap half the player base don’t care about this game will die soon enough. Don’t get me wrong I love guild wars and have been here from the start but there has been absolutely nothing to keep players here for the past 2 years other than farming and zerging. Wow is getting a new big expansion, ESO is coming out soon and in a near future Everquest will be out and if Anet doesn’t figure out that content is what keeps people from going away well I’m sad to say it’s not living story that will make your player base grow….
I know everybody is saying that we must be patient and all but wake up we are in 2014, games come out half a dozen each week, we have given enough patience into this game to at least get something in return for it, not patching and adding stuff that has been mentioned from the start, I know it takes time to make a game and what ever argument people come up with but in this era of gaming with all the choices a person gets it’s more about who gives the client the more stuff to make sure he doesn’t go elsewhere.
I am also not saying that Anet doesn’t care about this kind of thread but any kind of little info even if it’s insignificant just to let us know something big other then patches is coming in a near future would shut me up and make me log with a smile every day….
Thanks for reading and if you want to start kicking me for what i just said well please do.
The beauty of a B2P game is that you can leave and do something else, and GW2 will be here waiting for you when you get back.
The first thing that will happen to dye is a huge influx of Unidentified Dye.
The second thing that will happen to dye is a huge influx of identified colors.
Both of those things, combined with the sudden massive drop in demand for any given color, will result in an across the board price free fall on dye.
Unidentified Dyes will eventually go up again, since they are used for crafting and will be harder to come by. Individual colors will remain permanently low in value (exception being new colors that people want).
I fail to see why anyone at Anet or in the forum population thinks this will populate dead-zones.
If I go to Brisban Wildlands during a non-peak time, I might find one person on the map with me. So after “Megaserver” goes live, there might be 12 if I’m lucky. Maps are dead because there’s no reason to be on them. Server population doesn’t play a huge role in that. A high pop server might have 15 people on the map while a low pop has 2.
How about making a reason for people to be on those maps, rather than this system that seems to have disaster written all over it. Hey, I’ll give it a try, but Megaserver or not, I’m still not going to want to be on maps where theres nothing to do.I agree with this 100%
An empty zone is an empty zone, no matter how many servers are merged together.
We need new things to DO out in the world.
On small servers, there are only empty zones.
This change brings the players from small servers together with the players from large servers that way the players from small servers can actually do content.
It isn’t trying to get people to go to Brisban Wildlands, it is trying to help the 3 people in Orr on a small server actually have a chance at doing a Temple event since they now get to play with the 50 other players who are doing the event from other servers.
Giving a reason to go to underutilized maps is a separate issue.
I think that the extreme ends of the responses to this issue can be summarized as follows:
1. Extreme Negative – Players from larger servers who currently get to enjoy content and are concerned that these changes will prevent them from continuing to enjoy content. Some of it is based on not knowing things yet which lends itself to valid concerns until the details are available while some of it is petty selfishness and elitism (I don’t want those scummy scrubs in MY map).
2. Extreme Positive – Players from small servers who currently get to enjoy no content at all because there aren’t enough players to do anything. These players are elated since the changes will allow them to join the players from group 1 and actually participate in game content.
Love the idea. I believe I even posted a suggestion a while back that was very similar!
One piece? Seriously? Lol….. I have almost 200 hundred hours in the game and have honestly loved every second of it, and I play it just to have fun, not to farm for gold or anything like that. Having said that, it is a little disappointing that after all that time I only have 11 gold to show for it. I collect everything I can and deposit it the bank, and have dabbled in crafting but it’s kind of confusing and I don’t really see the point in it. I just want to be able to go into WvW with some decent gear which is why I’ll probably just spend real money for gems to turn into gold.
If you aren’t going to be doing crafting, sell those crafting materials you’ve been collecting in your bank. Crafting is mostly pointless unless you want to make ascended gear, in which case it is mandatory.
For some easy gold, do map clearing on the highest level maps (anything that is level 70+). You’ll get some exotic gear you can sell and a chunk of crafting materials to sell as well. Map clearing is where you get every Renown Heart, Vista, Point of Interest, Skill Point, and Waypoint on the map.
I’m doing my part every day to help the Centaurs along to their extinction point.
I even have guild events in which the person who gathers the most hooves wins a prize.
You aren’t a very good RPer if you can’t make the April Fool’s Day joke fit into your RP.
“Stop eating those mushrooms! Ooh…. I don’t feel so good…”
I dunno, my inner completionist sort of applauds the 250th meat thing. Because yay, now that end of the box is full! {Which makes my crafting habits horrible, since then I don’t want to take anything out and spoil the full stack.
}
You too huh? I won’t use a material until it has 250 in the bank. I had to get the 500 stack expansion to free up bank space… but now I don’t want to use a material until it has 500 in the bank.

Except not having fun forced by a broken economy to play something they don t like….
Its like if they forced you to play a match of PvP every time you wanted to access the TP.I should not even discuss a system that makes an athletic competition won by whoever get the most fashinable shoes…even if it makes sponsors pay more….
No aspect of the game’s economy prevents you from enjoying any aspect of the game’s content.
I can do PvE (open map, fractals, or dungeons), WvW, and PvP without ever opening the Trading Post (I know this is true, because I do it almost every day).
+1
if it was risk free and easy, everybody would be doing it.
I would argue that everybody “not playing the game” is infact doing it.
The point is many players bought the game to kill stuff or attend WWW or PvP and not to play market Tycoon…
Nothing is stopping those players from killing stuff or attending WvW or PvP.
PS I have roughly 2400g, how much money do you think I should be risking daily.
I’m going to address this part specifically:
You should never risk more than you are comfortable losing.
If you would be angry over losing 10g, then 9g should be your risk limit.
The copper-fed salvage-o-matic has always been in the gem store, the sale right now is just a discount.
Really? Shows how often I check out the store I guess
Daily and monthly achievement points are not infinite. There are a finite number of days and months.
Sure… the number is beginning of achieves through END OF TIME.
For human purposes, that’s infinite.
I’ll just wait and get ready to laugh at every “unlocker” when it turns out A-Net replaced the duplicate dyes with the account bound versions…
….and lo, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth across all the Realms of Tyria….
I think I might have 1-2 duplicate dyes in total. I only ever opened them on my first character, up until I realized they were character-bound at which point every single one of them went up on the TP. I think I may have somewhere in the range of 20 dyes in total (not counting starter dyes).
I welcome the dye changes as it will actually incentivize me to work towards collecting them now.
Can you please link where you read this? Not that I don’t believe you, I just want to read what Anet says.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pvp-reward-tracks-and-gear-unification/
Paragraph right above the last one.
Thanks. I was curious WHY they were making this change and they don’t say in that article. Has Anet explained why anywhere?
If I had to guess, it’s because infinite achievements kind of remove the whole point of having achievement points.
They are only really remarkable when you can say “I’ve got 10,000 of 12,000 points!”. Right now, you can say “I’ve got 10,000 points out of an infinite pool of potential points”.
Yeah right, guilds are nothing more than a social ladder.
Big ones maybe. Small guilds tend to be very closely knit.
