Key farm, you’ll get crystals aplenty.

What is this key farming? Not the first time I’ve seen it mentioned… but still no idea what it entails…

Creating a new human character and doing the first few personal story quests can net you a guaranteed Black Lion Key every 25 minutes or so.

Well, DCUO can get away with that because they also charge you for monthly access and thus they are making their money on subscriptions.

DCUO started as a subscription MMO, but went free-to-play on November the 2nd, 2011.

Unrelated question, just because I’m curious: Are they are real F2P, or a “second class citizens can kind of play for free like SWTOR”?

I think they need to give us a solid way to earn charges through game play (ie, 2 guaranteed for clearing lvl 70+ maps or something). Rather than having to purchase more from the gemstore, specially considering nothing was mentioned about cost for those.

They will probably still have a chance to drop from the dailies, though to be honest I only ever get a Mystic Coin, some luck, and a Karma bottle so I’m still not convinced that other things actually drop from the daily meta.

Look, I have no problem with a developer’s need to make money, but there are better, less exploitative ways of doing it.

Hell, I’d even be happier if they charged for the initial copy of the skin to the wardrobe as long as every subsequent use was free.

Well, DCUO can get away with that because they also charge you for monthly access and thus they are making their money on subscriptions.

Since this game has no sub fee, they have to make their cash shop stuff single use for cosmetics or else raise the prices to be around $30/skin in order to make the same amount of revenue.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mtpelion.4562

there will be thousands upon thousands of unid dyes generated the day of the update, if not millions. It won’t matter, prices won’t be as high as everyone thinks

everyone is stockpiling dyes to get bunches of unid dyes at update thinking they can sell for a profit, when in reality only a few will make profits, as there is tons of people doing this as it is a fairly cheap “adventure” into investing. So there will be TONS of Unid dyes day of update from all the hopefuls hoping to become instantly rich.

Don’t fret it

Thousands upon thousands, many (most?) of which will instantly be consumed by players trying to roll the dice and get some additional dyes once the patch goes live, since the dyes are now account-wide.

Day of update will have a lot of dye, but that number will rapidly decrease (I’d say at least 50% will be used up the same day) and with the significant decrease in acquisition rates, unidentified dyes will become very expensive as time goes on.

If you are working on Bifrost, or will be working on Bifrost, I strongly recommend that you retain the unidentified dyes you receive on patch day.

This was discussed in several of the other threads on the subject.

My opinion is that they will remove them from map exploration going forward since map exploration currently lets you transmute sub 80 gear and the new charges will let you transmute anything.

Better get your map clears done now, just to be safe.

No.

No. I means the exact opposite of that.

If you have Celestial on 1 character and Abyss on another, you will now have Celestial and Abyss on ALL of your characters.

If you have Celestial on 2 characters, you will now have Celestial on ALL of your characters and get 1 Unidentified Dye (to repay you for the duplicate Celestial).

Someone please verify that I am understanding the charges correctly:

Once you use a charge for a particular skin, that skin is, well, “charged” and can be used repeatedly without using another charge? The charges only need to be applied once per skin, correct?

No, once you equip or salvage a skin, a copy of it goes in your wardrobe.

To get it out of the wardrobe again you use a “charge” to apply the wardrobe skin to your current gear.

As long as they keep dropping for exploration, I’m happy with the change. Maybe now I’ll be seeing more people during my travels outside of Queensdale/FS/CS.

I’m guessing that they won’t drop for map completion after the patch goes live. Up until now, you could only get the sub 80 transmuters from map completion (which is why I have 2 full stacks of them in my bank). They have to protect their money-making items because that’s (drum roll)… how they make their money.

Great, they’ve finally implemented what a lot of people have been pining after for ages, yet they’ve also cynically monetised it.

Came to the same conclusion. Unless Transmutation Stones and Crystals start dropping like rain from monsters, I don’t see this new feature changing much.

You get 3 Stones from every map completion in the game. On the new system that would be 1 charge.

Time to start exploring in order to build up a stockpile of charges before everything goes live.

I’ll be doing map completions regularly going forward, PM me in game if you want to guest to DR and join me.

On the other hand, Cinnamon sticks are used exclusively for cooking, and pretty much only in early recipes. Once you surpass that level of cooking, your need for cinnamon as a player disappears forever. They have almost no value because they have no late-game use.

Which is a darn shame, because I put cinnamon on tons of level 80 food in real life.

I see a lot of attacks on the OP that boil down to, “I think this is a silly thing to do,” and that’s a fine perspective to have. But is that a reason to prevent willing parties from transacting business? I can’t imagine anyone who truly believes in the concept of a free market saying yes.

It’s a limitation of the Trading Post, not an intentional prevention of free trade.

Since the trading post was intentionally designed to behave in the way it does, the designer intended it to limit free trade. My question is, why? And further, is that reason a good one?

I doubt that the concept of people trying to sell for less than the current offer even occurred to the designers. I’d put it down as an oversight, not an intentional restriction.

I think Smooth’s point is that people who pay cash for it and people who pay time for it are both paying for it and are receiving it, therefore it isn’t an advantage that is exclusive to the cash or the time payers.

Since both have the ability to purchase it with their chosen currency (cash or time) it isn’t discriminatory.

These are items I’m more or less just throwing away as junk half the time, I wanted to put them in the market because there are likely players who aren’t a bit overstocked in copper like I am, so I figured I could throw out some cheap salvage for people who needed them, while still making a handy profit, a lot more than I would get in shops. Instead, I got pushed to sell my items at prices that in no way reflect that idea, or even how I got it. I feel like I’m being pushed into cheating people out of their money by means of ‘market value.’ THATS where my problem is, for those people who arent able to get many of those items and -only- get them from the market, yes, the market value is by essence, the only way they can think about a profit, but thats not me. I’m out getting these items, it takes no effort at all to get these items, there more or less -trash- to me.
See what I’m getting at? why should I be forced to sell at these prices when, I’m so far removed from the -reasons- for those prices, that I’m jsut robbing people blind. I feel like I’m cheating the game, myself, and others…because the market value says so. -thats- my problem. If I’m underselling because I want to..why not? Are we that afraid people purposely collapsing a market that we end up not letting people make what they consider to be fair trades? I don’t transmute my items, I dont need to, see where I’m getting at?

Let me summarize what you said:

Person A: Hi, I want to pay 95c for Jute Scraps, will you sell them to me?
Person B: No, I will only sell you Jute Scraps for 10c.
Person A: Umm… I just offered you more than that.
Person B: I find your offer of more money to be insulting as it makes me feel like I’m cheating people who are not a party to this transaction and are in no way being affected at all.
Person A: Umm.. Ok… I’m still offering you 95c because that’s what Jute Scraps are worth to me.
Person B: I shall take this indignity to the forums!
Person A: Umm… what just happened here?
Person B posts his complaint on the forum
Persons C-Z (the forums): Umm… why would you cheat yourself?
Person B: You guys are all mean for asking me that.
John Smith: Here’s why you are wrong.
Person B: Thank you, but I’m still mad at everyone for offering me too much money and asking me why I’m mad about being offered more money.

I think that’s pretty succinct.

I am willing to pay you 6c per Jute Scrap though, if it will alleviate your angst over being offered too much.

I do read the forums, read the news, etc.
I never saw any notice about the heirloom vendors going away.
you should put notices of this nature in the game where more than 100 people will actually see them.
I’m going to go actively look for this notice. I’m curious how long it will take me – and I’ll be looking for it, not just happen to stumble upon it. If I don’t come back, send out a search party!

Well, I just found it, took literally three seconds, because it was one second per click. I clicked on forum. I clicked on News and Announcements. I clicked on the very first post after the stickied posts, without even reading it. And wouldn’t you know, that was the one. Really hard to find. That’s rough.

Right. You, and I both know how to use the forum because we are part of the well-informed minority of players who use the forum regularly.

The problem is that there is nothing in game that would have triggered the majority of players to go onto the forums and then go onto the News section in order to find that information.

ArenaNet provided the information, but they did not do it in a way that:
A. Alerts any meaningful portion of the playerbase to the posting of the information and
B. Informs any meaningful portion of the playerbase to the location of that information.

ArenaNet has previously admitted that they are bad at communicating this kind of information. While I’m glad that they are making the effort to at least get it out there (whereas before they just didn’t say anything at all), I’m also pointing out that they still have a LOT of room to improve and I’m offering a helpful suggestion as to how.

This has been the extent of my “constructive criticism” on this topic.

1. You are sub-30 for about 4 hours unless you are intentionally avoiding things that give XP.

So new players should just buy gold for gems so that they can craft to 30 before starting to actually play the game ?

No, new players should play the game normally and be level 30 in around 4 hours by doing events/renown hearts.

I’d imagine watchwork sprockets coming back with queens pavilion again. And they did say it might come before yearly cycle.
And the new vendor should be selling sprockets and spores at least.

I dont think the Jubilee will come back. Last year it was Queen Jennahs 10 year Reign Jubilee and i dont think she will put on a show for her 11th year. Maybe her 15th.

As Scarlet crashed the Party, I see the Jubilee more as a Living Story Season 1 event than a reoccuring event like Halloween or Wintersday.

I’m fairly certain that ArenaNet has confirmed that the fighting area beneath Divinity’s Reach will be an annual recurring event. It obviously won’t be a Jubilee each year, but it would be akin to an annual tournament type thing.

Well…thats basically a “never use this place again.”
Seriously this is insane, the only salvage you can get from this thing is a copper ore, and the item itself is the single most common salvage item I have gotten in this game(I’ve been to four started areas now,) how an item can be worth three times the cost of what you get from salvaging it is beyond me.

But yeah, I am not going to use a system where I am forced to sell for some insane overinflated BS price just because, thats both a terrible economy, and something I don’t plan on participating in.

Shredded Rags give between 1 and 3 Jute Scraps when salvaged.

Jute Scraps are using in crafting and are currently trading for 95c.

That means that your average Shredded Rag when salvaged would be worth 1s42c (95c * 1.5 (average of 1 to 3, weighted towards 1) based on the Jute Scraps you’d get. The current price on the Trading Post of 1s44c matches this.

I think it should be pointed out that you are not forced to do anything. You have the option of destroying, salvaging and using, or vendoring those scraps. Your choice to hurt yourself by not selling at the current price due to your misunderstanding of basic economic principles is a self-inflicted problem that we won’t be able to assist you with.

The biggest problem with information distribution via forums is that usage of the forum is limited to about 5-10% of the total playerbase, depending on the game.

The launcher is seen by 100% of the playerbase, making it the ideal candidate for information distribution. Even if a player selects “auto-play” (which honestly should be removed in the event information was being distributed via the launcher), they still had the information broadcasted directly onto their screen, at which point it would be on the player for being ignorant, as opposed to being on ArenaNet.

I’m not calling for them to add back the merchants (though I would have no problem if they did; I cashed all my stuff in in advance and told my guild to do the same), I’m calling for them to start using their communication tool correctly in order to ensure that threads like this never need to be started.

I don’t see a problem with other professions getting Signet of Illusions, tbh. :P

Yeah, it would require a decent chunk of work to standardize them. If it were me, I’d have 4 signets that were the same for all classes (1 heal and 3 utility) and then one “Signet of the [profession name]” that does something unique for each profession.

How would this work? Engineers do not have signets at all. As well they probably never will, because signets directly, and specifically go against the lore of the engineer.

Like I said, a decent chunk of work since you’d have to replace a lot of utility skills for Engineers.

BTW: I mained a ranger in GW1, so after playing GW2 I am immune to arguments of lore. You can thank ArenaNet for that :P
