Did you restart the game after deleting the Screens folder?
I feel like this is something that GW2 could have handled better, but I’m curious what other people think – should we have customizable weapon skills?
Do you mean reordering them on the skill bar? You can accomplish that via key mapping, I believe.
I understand why they won’t do this, but I’d also like them to do this.
“Good” in this context means “Used as or competitive with a Meta build for at least one game area”.
Limiting the number of combinations makes it easier to balance the remaining combinations, which will increase the usefulness of each option.
Xbon,
If you still haven’t noticed, It is 170,000 GOLD (count the zeros) in one single buy order which is only 1 copper above the previous buy order.
Yes, limited availability items, especially ones that are not currently entering the market, are ripe for TP speculators who are sitting on hundreds of thousand of gold.
With such a small amount of possible inventory in the game, it makes sense to make a large offer to try and buy up all of it so that you can reprice it at a profit.
Will it work? Depends, but if you are already wealthy then the gamble is worth it when you look at the potential reward of success.
“Build Diversity” is a myth, and as such cannot be used to argue against streamlining build design.
Making the profession-specific train line an elite would make balancing easier which results in the players getting an increase in REAL choices. Would you prefer to have 20 options but only 2 of them are good or 10 options with 5 of them being good?
Park a few alt characters at the Pagga tree farm in Malchor’s Leap.
Every day, first thing when you log on, chop those trees.
Turn those logs into planks.
Sell those planks on the Trading Post.
It is a slow but stable way to make a living without altering your playstyle too much.
Do you key farmers use the Leveling Equipment https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Leveling_equipment or do you just buy fresh gear each week?
You can also get it from the Heart of Maguuma Reward tracks in PvP and WvW, if you find getting a T4 map is too difficult.
I save a few, vendor the cheap ones, sell the ones I can on the TP.
I wish Anet would just make them salvage into dust or something.
Dust, Lodestones, Leather, anything. Just make them salvageable so you can get SOME value out of the 90% that are useless.
You can forge them in the Mystic Forge to try and get them up to Superior level and pray that you get one of the 10 or so that aren’t completely worthless.
As a fantasy game set in a fictional medieval period, why would you ever use a non-medieval definition in an attempt to force yourself to be offended by something completely innocuous?
TP speculation aside this is undermining of player experience – dropping once prestigious skins as well as memory items under the bus. In a form of gambling.
This is so wrong.
What was wrong was the way Season One content was delivered in the first place.
Someone who starts playing today can still get all the skins from Season 2 and 3, so why should Season 1 be off limits for them?
How about the people who played Season 1 but were on a dead server so they couldn’t get the skins then?
I really want to know what the actual hell were the boys at Anet thinking when their goal of reaching scarcity required players to cheese the game, and making massive demands on something that can only be obtained by slaughtering mobs till they go extinct. And even then… the return rate on said items is like 1 out of 15-20 mobs at best.
Ambient supply
The creation of Leather and Cloth is primarily done via a distributed model in which all players are generating a low but steady supply all the time. This is opposed to the Farm supply model that applies to Ore and Logs in which a small number of players generate the majority of the supply via targeted activity (i.e. going out and farming nodes).
The Ambient supply model promotes the use of the Trading Post since players with low demand have a reason to sell the supply they got “for free” while players with high demand have a reason to buy the supply since they cannot realistically satisfy their own demand via normal gameplay.
When you speculate, you are always at risk that something will happen to the market in which you are speculating.
This is how it has always been (in real world and virtual economies).
I am incredibly happy that the items are available. Unless you were lucky enough to be on one of the top 5 most populated servers during Season 1, you had NO SHOT of getting all those items during the limited time the events were up because there were not enough players on your server to complete the events consistently.
I used to go to a business school (ZBC), and what you seem to be mentioning is something like the SWOT analysis, and my brother literally is gonna start this month programming where he will get 5.5k$ each month. I do not know how A-Net or the Gw2 team colaborate, but I find it very unlikely that the developers actually take measures like the SWOT analysis before implementing an idea, furthermore, I do not know if NC soft controls the gem store or not. But I am about to enter my bachlor, which I hope will proovide me with enough knowledge to find these out.
Though I would look at their press conference call, and the powerpoint, it indicates that they do distribute money
http://irsvc.teletogether.com/ncsoft/ncsoft2017Q2_eng.php
http://irsvc.teletogether.com/ncsoft/pdf/ncsoft2017Q2_eng.pdf(They do talk in japanese, and translate it to english in the call)
It is basically saying that the mobile genre, will be huge, and the powerpoint shows that Gw2 is earning the least, but it really showcases how it all works.Which remind me, that using money as the reason of why developers implement ideas, should not be a reason either. Since again, it is not like devs are like “we prob will make a huge chunk of money by making this” At least not according to the work my brother have done so far, there are of cause much more to it, but it almost seems like people believe that devs just make stuff for the reason of getting money, while the fact seems to indicate otherwise.
And to put a real end to this “devs should/is make(ing) this for profit”
As you know, this have been suggested for literally 4 years or longer now, though the most common answer is, that there is not enough time, nor will it benefit the developers in cash. There are literally 100 things they could have done, if they wanted a increase in profit, making mounts where you can only dye top half half, does not seem to be a good reason. Again, idk how much you can customize these mounts, but based on the things they have showcased, it really does not seem to be worth it.
On this link you can see the……massive number of people who thought it wouldnt be worth it, and how much time it would require is not worth it…..
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Mounts-mergedSorry, I got a bit out of hand here, but using logic like “profitable” “time” etc, where there is really no telling how much time it would take, how profitable it really is from our point of view, and you using swot analysis kinda “wrong”, also triggered me a bit if I have to be honest
This is not a SWOT, but a CBA (Cost-Benefit Analysis).
Profitability is always considered, just not maybe by someone at your brother’s pay grade. His bosses’ bosses’ boss is likely doing that and sending the yes/no decision on development direction downstream to your brother’s desk. Depending on the size of the organization and the culture, there may be a focus on customer enjoyment where it is OK to ignore a degree of unprofitable decisions if the end result is a much happier customer, but that culture almost always changes as the company grows (big companies attract big investors and big investors care about making big dollars right now).
I’m also going to reiterate that we don’t have the data that ArenaNet does, and thus cannot say for certain what is and is not profitable. We can make guesses, and sometimes those guesses are very close to being 100% accurate due to the information at hand. A complete redesign of the game’s engine is definitely unprofitable, for example, since it would cost millions of dollars and generate 0 dollars in revenue.
I think that the Gift of Battle should be tied to competitive play, but I also think that there needs to be a PvP Reward Track as well as a WvW track for it so that players have options.
Companies exist for one purpose, and that is to generate profit for the owners of the company.
To generate profit, revenue must exceed expenses.
When considering changes to the company’s product, the following questions must be asked:
1. What will the change cost?
2. What will be the change in revenue?
3. What will be the change in expenses?
4. What will be the cost of doing nothing (i.e. lose clients if you don’t do it)?
5. Could the change cost be spent on something that would be more profitable (i.e. do we make more money if we do B instead of A)?
Once you have answered those questions, you can then decide if the change is profitable.
We, the players, cannot answer those questions accurately, but sometimes it is pretty safe to assume the answer.
For mounts, the change is profitable because ArenaNet can monetize skins in the gem store, which will lead to increased revenue that far outpaces the cost and expenses. It is also likely to be a change that is more profitable than doing many other things players have asked for, which makes it an ideal candidate for change.
For build saving, the change is likely not profitable because ArenaNet may have limited or no monetization options which means that there will be no increased revenue to offset the cost and expenses, so the only gain will be a stoppage of customer loss (which may be very minor over something like this).
These are guesses, but they are educated, safe guesses based on real life business factors.
They are not meant to imply that a suggestion is good or bad, merely that they may not be profitable enough to be realistic.
A bit of hyperbole, perhaps, but it doesn’t really matter. The fact is that hardened leather, a mid-high level “common” mundane material that is used in a lot of recipes in large numbers, costs more in the market than a glob of ectoplasm – an exotic rarity material used in small quantities in high level crafting.
The fact that anyone is defending this as okay or normal is absolutely ridiculous.
It is okay, since they added a way to directly farm it. You don’t have to spend a single copper on hardened leather now, you can get all you will ever need without ever opening the trading post.
No it isn’t. If that was working as intended, it would have driven the price down a lot more than it has.
The fact that most players choose to continue using the Trading Post rather than farm their own does not impact the working status of the solution, nor does it mean that additional changes are necessary. The option is present, yet players have proven that they prefer to pay high prices rather than farm materials which renders your argument that the price is “too high” invalid.

A friend of mine was finishing her crafting to level 500 yesterday and had to buy something like 50g of leather just to make one set of exotic armor which sells for about 10g on the trading post because of bad stats.
Our guild has been stalled on upgrades for over a year because every upgrade is now over 100g of leather thanks to the ongoing drought that did not exist at Heart of Thorns release when other people levelled their guild halls.
New players coming to the game who play mediums almost cannot afford any gear. A basic set of gear on my new Thief cost 100s of gold if I were to buy or craft it directly and that is for the exotics. I ended up having to use cheap “named” equipment to sidestep this cost so that I could play lv80 content.
I am tired of this. Exhausted.
And don’t talk to me about farming. Farming leather in this game is a huge snoozefest, its only implemented in one farm in one map.
Made a new Thief this past weekend. He’s wearing full Exotic Zerker armor that cost me 0 gold because I spent a few hours farming Airship Parts in Verdant Brink. Spending 100s of gold on Exotic gear is not something anyone should be doing.
My vote is “No”, as a former leader and current member.
I’d even go so far as to make it against the ToS for a guild leader to require 100% rep, as I find the concept patently offensive in a “play how you want” game, as well as being an antique leftover from the bygone age of single guild games.
If you want loyalty, make a good guild and people will WANT to rep it. If you have to demand it, you’re not running a good guild.
At this point, despite the many times ArenaNet has expressed a desire to do this, I don’t think it will happen without a full stop gem store boycott by the playerbase until it is added. It doesn’t generate revenue for them, so they will only add it if starts to cost them money if they don’t.
Fast leveling is primarily for Alts, which is why Tomes of Knowledge and level boosters get dumped on older characters.
If you have just started playing the game, just know that getting to level 80 without boosts is still incredibly fast if you make sure to have food and utility buffs up while you are playing normally.
You can do events in mid-tier maps that have leather as the map reward.
You can also farm humanoid mobs that drop bags (bags being one of the primary sources of all leather).
You can kill enemies on the Living Story Season 3 maps and salvage their salvage item drops.
Ideally, the commander of the south lane will send 3-4 players there to handle it after the first lane succeeds, but that’s not as common as it should be.
I sometimes just wished to have emoticons on a single key, like <ET>/salute<ET>
I agree, they should lift the ban with regard to chat pane interactions.
It would also be helpful for WvW commanders to hotkey chat instructions to their squad/map as well as in unorganized PvP (where voice chat isn’t present).
“Macros” (i.e. an automated series of keystrokes) are not permitted, other than to play musical instruments.
You are permitted to rebind your keys to the mouse though.
Those launch pads killed me way more times than the jump down.
I didn’t get a chance to play the Beta, does the new zone have any chests in it? I got the impression that unidentified gear was just a new take on the map-specific chest system that was present on each HoT map.
Erm, not 100% sure what you mean. There are new chests in the new areas as in new boxes you run up to and use to get loot, these drop from them. They also seem to take the place of the various loot bags like Vine Caches, Mushroom Caches, Recovered Priory Expedition/SCAR/Pale Reaver Chest (which is great).
Does the new map have (for example) Airship Cargo items all over that you can only open with (again, for example) Crowbars?

Is it possible for all Lore Collection (books/ pamphlets) to be view able from a book shelf in our home instances once completed.
Then you don’t have to go back to original location to reacquire them once or if you delete them.
They need to have a Lore TAB in the bank/inventory where all of these things can be added and then pulled out again if needed.
I do not know the answer, I just wanted to comment on how hilarious the use of the kitten filter was on your post title.
Here’s a thought:
What if Spirits were updated to use the new Ammo system?
Using the skill places the spirit at your location.
The icon switches to the Active skill and ammo is added (2-5 uses, depending on the spirit).
Using the Active will then:
1. Consume 1 charge of ammo,
2. Teleport the spirit to your location, and
3. Cause the Active effect
Alternately, steps 2 and 3 could be swapped so that the effect triggers and then the teleport happens.
In this version, Spirits DO NOT DIE when using the active, only when their life timer expires.
In this version you:
A. Get more uses of the Active making Spirits much more useful and
B. Can move the Spirits to you on demand, preventing them from going out of range while their life timer still has time on it.
Thoughts?
I just wish that the trait would cause spirits to use their active when they are killed or despawned.
If a Personal Story step that requires the use of your home instance is the current step (even if it isn’t your ACTIVE current step), it will suppress your “normal” home instance with one that is designed for the story step. As such, all home instance unlocks will NOT be present.
All hero points, regardless of where they are earned, go into the same pool. They are then spent from that pool to unlock trait lines (including the elite spec line).
If you have leftover HoT and core hero points, you will be able to start spending them on day one of PoF (though it will be unlikely that you will have enough to complete the new elite spec without getting some additional PoF hero points, if you have already unlocked the HoT elite).
You will be able to own PoF without owning HoT, so the HoT elite will NOT be required to unlock the PoF elite.
Mystic Coins are only used in the production of top end luxury items. As such, their high cost on the TP is unlikely to ever receive any ArenaNet action.
I do all my Karma generation in Ember Bay (used to use Bitterfrost Frontier since you could also get berries that convert into UM, but it seems they owe me a refund on my Karmic Retribution there after the heavy nerfs to the drop rate they made) or stockpiling it during Wintersday.
If I walked up to you and introduced myself as Julius Caesar, your response would be similar to your character’s response to meeting Livia.
You, and most people on the planet, know who Julius Caesar was.
Similarly, your character, and most people in Tyria, know who Livia was.
In both cases, the vast majority of the population also assumes the famous person is dead. In the real world I’m not Julius Caesar, but in Tyria she is Livia.
Introducing historical characters in a game is difficult, since you didn’t get to experience every living moment of your character’s life and thus you (the player) have giant information gaps unless you do a lot of lore reading.
I’d go so far as to say that’s why most of the time historical characters are either simply referenced as Easter eggs or ignored entirely.

I know I couldn’t find a map today to do dragon’s stand daily.
Content for existing zones like the old living story 1 maybe \o/
Dragon’s Stand runs on a schedule. You have a 5-10 minute window every 2 hours in which to go there if you want to do events there.
So I bought PoF already and I am really regretting it after having read this. This is just a little too much for me. They sell GW2 as “no gear grind,” but I consistently find myself having to fix builds due to their insanely heavy-handed approach. They were so close to actual BALANCE in PvE, that I was actually getting pretty excited. I think I’m going to switch games now….
/end whining
The real question I was asking is… the game isn’t out yet, how do I go about getting a refund? Do I just cancel it from the side of PayPal?
“No Gear Grind” was a selling point before they added Raiding. Since raids, meta builds, and gear progression always go hand in hand, it was inevitable that those who participate in raiding would need to be frequently changing their gear, and they should have always expected it (especially since it has already happened a few times since raiding showed up).
Those who are just meta-chasers (i.e. those who are not in elite raiding guilds working on setting speed records) do NOT need to change their gear every time a patch hits. Their existing gear is still equippable and still does enough damage to clear the raid. It may not be meta, but it is still functional and adequate for your purposes.
Will PoF be available on a hard copy (DVD)?
Anet is going downhill, HoT didn’t sell close as match as they thought so no retail this time.
Selling retail boxes of a PC game in 2017 is like being Amish. Sure, some people do it, but it’s no longer the norm to wear wool pants and ride around in a buggy everywhere.
How HoT did has no bearing on the fact that it is a terrible business decision to sell boxes in 2017.
Cars exist, you can park the horse now.
The Rare Pizza used to be +40% Condition Duration. First it was cut to 20%. Now you’re taking it down to 6%.
Why bother to have it at all?
It’s better than 0%
Downsides of boxed copies:
1. They cost more to produce (disc, box, manual, etc. all need to be created and printed), plus you have to pay to ship them.
2. You charge less for them (so that the store can match your online price and still make a profit).
3. People can easily steal them.
4. Most stores don’t have PC game sections anymore, so the number of people buying them this way is tiny.
Upsides:
1. Nostalgia.
When you buy something in Euros, they have to convert those Euros into Dollars before ArenaNet can use them. That conversion process not only costs money, but also delays the receipt of funds. Rather than trying to constantly hit a moving target in terms of conversion rate and exchange fees/interest, it’s easier to just set a static price and let the chips fall where they may in terms of net revenue.
There is literally zero incentive for them to add such features.
Doing so would require lots of development time, would prevent many existing and new users unable to run the game, and would create no incentive for new people to buy the game.
Unless you’re willing to donate the $5 million or so it would cost to overhaul the engine for no profit, this is a pretty ludicrous demand.
One of the reasons mystic forge recipes command high premiums on the TP is that it takes a long time. Make it easier to promote mats in bulk and we’d lose a lot of the value for doing so. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; it is something that ANet has to consider before making a change.
Really? I always thought that mystic forge recipes command high premiums because most players don’t know anything about them.
I mean if you want to promote a few thousand materials then yeah, I can see how it’s time consuming but if you just want to promote a few hundred then it’s not so bad surely?
Either way, I’m not that bothered about TP prices, I’d just rather not have to do a few thousand mouse clicks to make a legendary: the most epic part of the journey should not be sacrificing a mouse.
The fact that most of them require enormous quantities of the most expensive items in the game to make a single item are probably also a main reason why so few make them.
You keep saying this, despite the fact that, at any given time, there are many promotion recipes worth 50-150 silver per spirit shard, after taking into account the cost to buy the inputs on the TP. The reason they command that value is that they are time consuming — some people might not know about them, but enough people do.
Promotions are not relevant to what you quoted.
