I seriously wonder if there are people with more than one legendary. You’d simply either have to buy from gold sellers or literally farm the “end-game”. It just seems so unfeasible to do it any other way.

It doesn’t really narrow much down to assume an event chain or a single boss encounter. I’d get off the event chain or not treadmill and start researching. I spent about an hour last night read various things in the priory archive.

Pretty much even saying there is some sort of dialog or clue in the game that might point us in a direction would be fantastic. Right now anything we do have is purely speculation and considering the rarity of this thing, someone may never find it. It HAS to be an isolated event, one hardly anyone does or does often enough to even stumble onto it. Other than combing the wiki through every event that spawns a chest (we already know it’s a large chest) could easily narrow it done a bit. But that’s a lot of data to comb over. We aren’t even sure if it’s a low level zone or not. But we for sure can rule out the big ones, maw, all the dragons and all the temples, including arah opening event.

I personally think a good hint that’s not really a hint would be if the boss was a legendary boss. Seriously, there’s a lot of bosses that it could possibly be.

I think we also need to really base the fact that it’s an 80 weapon, that it not being a drop in a under 70-75 zone, although sadly there are quite a few 80 weapons that drop from dragons in lower level zones, like maw for example. But would a smaller event like that really drop an 80 weapon in a 35 zone? The bigger events sure, but smaller more isolated ones? I’m not convinced. By the clues given so far, it seems to be only from a single event, which is actually somewhat rare in itself.

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

in Crafting

munkiman.3068

Not to blow anything up here, but back before karka event when prices were higher, they did fix the drop rate out of the end chest. I’m imagining that since no real progress has been made (according to a recent post) toward implementing an epic quest chain for a precursor, that there will be some other such event that will cause prices to bottom out again. Perhaps it might just be best to wait out the next update and see where things are then.

Final curse is an pretty common drop (about 2g on the TP), it does make sense that final rest would drop from a dragon, however, if so, there would at least be a couple on the TP, as often as they are farmed.

Even if everyone got one in the mail from anet for free, I would bet that half of them or more would simply sell, precursors aren’t legendaries. I can’t figure out why some people can’t see how vast the misunderstanding is between the 2. If you happen to get lucky enough to get a precursor as a drop, you have even less a chance to get the one you want. The only realistic goal to getting a precursor is buying it and the prices simply climb.

Must be nice to have enough time to put into getting 3. You’re absolutely in the lower minority, by luck or by playing the TP, farming your face off or spending real world cash on gold. 90% of the people i know simply don’t have that kind of money or time. I’m fine with all the other things involved with them, but getting a precursor is far more about luck or being rich than it is about working for anything. Say what you want, no one looking for hand-outs, as a matter of fact most of us would rather see more legendary things involved with getting them than just money or RNG.

Seriously, just save your gold and buy one. It really isn’t that hard. I just farmed 60 gold in a week. It’s an MMO. Take your time and if you want it then work for it and stop complaining. You can farm 500 gold in Orr in 2 months with ease.

Ye, in 2 months someone will have 500 gold, but by then – precursors will be 2000 gold… Prices are going high every day…

False. The only precursors that have gone up in price the past month are those that got updated. Everything else has been relatively stable.

False. I’ve been keeping track on Tooth of Frostfang’s price (Frostfang recieved no update) and it has risen in price by 100 gold in the last 2 weeks.

Go back 2 weeks, it’s gone up since the update and slowly going down over the last few days.

The prices for The Lover have been going down. I highly doubt that person A is dropping the prices. Many of them are well over 500g with 11 available right now that’s 5,500g. Now i don’t know what the gold cap is but i assume it’s 9999.99.99, that’s an awful lot of g for one person to control ALL the precursor prices. Not saying it isn’t possible, it’s just extremely unlikely.

The prices right after the karka event plummeted. At one point you could get the lover for well under 100g, it’s now over 500g. The updated effects to the legendary did far less to the price than the change in rarity. They are really back to being a 1 in a million chance it feels like, it’s not like the actual volume of them are increasing in the TP, only the prices. Although at one point the lover was over 730g

What's your favourite Jumping Puzzle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: munkiman.3068

munkiman.3068

I love Coddler’s Cove to pieces, even though I never managed to get up to the chest. And believe me, I tried for hours over the last few months.

Additional to “poor depth perception” and “disabilities” hindering people participating successfully in jumping puzzles, I would like to add the system setup as a factor. Camera positioning is essential in the challenges. People that can use a normal two- to six-button mouse have better control over the character movement than others with alternate hardware.

I have to use a trackball, and camera positioning in jumping challenges is a painstaking process for me. Once I positioned the camera, I have to use the keyboard to execute the jumps. This is very unwieldy, and tons of kind-of-instinctive jumpers pass me by before I manage to execute even one jump. Sometimes, this makes me feel very stooopid.

Timed jumping challenges or time-constricted stuff like the mad king’s clock tower are not made for me. But I would dearly like to have the chance to do these monsters without the normal constraints – no time limit, and no platforms that vanish under my feet. That also includes other challenges that require fast and sure jumps in quick succession.

Giving me a chest for these “practice opportunities” is not necessary, but a “looser’s acievement” would be nice. Rat King, anyone?

But complaints aside, I have tried every puzzle at least once.

You might consider using sticky buttons on your trackballs right button. I’m not sure how you actually set it up, but I know a friend that has to use a trackball and has his right-click to be pressed until he double clicks it. Since he’s done that, he’s become somewhat of a pro at them. Not sure if that’s an issue for you or not but it helped him out a lot.

I asked him if there were any clues besides NPC dialog that could hint on where it drops
" I don’t know what clues might be present, sorry. Good luck!"

Finally I asked him about the conflicting hints between him and Ms. Murdock about how she said it drops from a Large (no classification as large so this could mean 3 different kinds of chest) boss chest and him saying it drops from a rare boss, I asked is it from a chest or a boss?

Yeah that’s a lot of assumptions there that are pretty unfounded. It’s obviously in the game and there are actually quite a few undocumented and possibly not found things in the game. It’s very possible too that a few people had it and either salvaged it or vendored it. Just because there are people on here and around other forums looking for it and posting about it, doesn’t mean that people haven’t found it. There might be a majority that simply don’t frequent the forums to even know about it.

The quest chains in Orr for the temples deactivate them, they spawn chest and become inactive for a time. People hold zergs to complete them daily, precursors can drop from the completion chest. No one i’ve seen (and i run with the zerg often) has gotten Final Rest from those chests.

All the items you mentioned are parts of chains as well or open doors typically with bosses behind those doors. I’ve done many of them multiple times and not found anything unusual for the zone in them.

We can definitely make some pretty direct assumptions that it’s in a level 80 zone, since it’s specific to a boss and a chest, otherwise what good would a rare 80 staff do for 60? We can discount entirely southsun which leave us with 3 possible locations, of those 3 we can look at the known event chains and surmise which of those are farmed regularly and discount those. That can’t possibly lead to that many know events that spawn large chests.

Pretty much the 2 things to take away from the dev responses is rare LARGE chest and (rare) boss. The given theories that have been stated so far don’t indicate either as being particularly rare. Large chest could mean a few different ones, and Lindsey’s emphasis on the large aspect you could almost assume it might be bigger than glorious, such as the enormous chest in the vault JP in WvW, even if the scale is the same, it is labeled enormous. We could be looking for a LARGE chest labeled that specifically as i’ve not come across a chest labeled “large” anything. It’s tough not to take the emphasis at face value, but it may not be a particularly sizable chest in scale. Just tossing that out there.

Both Taidha Covington and The Zho’qafa Catacombs I’ve done numerous times. Not to say it doesn’t drop out of those chests, but it really doesn’t seem likely. The Eye of Zaitan boss that spawns isn’t what i would conciser a rare boss spawn. Taidha, being basically a pirate does really seem to tie into the staff, not to mention it’s in a non 80 level zone. I don’t have any solid theories unfortunately, but I would assume it’s some rarely found boss and it’s in an 80 area. You can discard a lot of underwater champ events since they don’t spawn chests.

Is this a fair fix for precursors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

munkiman.3068

There’s a lot of things that need to happen really. They need to get people back into the game, that alone would bring down prices. They could (i’d assume) easily have special weekends to help bring some players back, like GW1 has done for years. Double exotic drops from chests would be one, double karma, etc. etc. WvW population is down, sPvP is practically vacant, zones are becoming ghost towns. IMO, they really need to do SOMETHING and much sooner than they are. It’s simply too soon for the game to be slumping so much in population. The intro of dailies and monthlies was a start, a small one, but it did bolster the community somewhat. Most people I know are either only playing GW2 or only show up randomly for some new content release.

I realize it takes time to get stuff like that in game, but a double drop weekend should be a pretty quick band aid, at least toward the ridiculous increase in precursor costs.

Right now it’s less of a guild leader issue and more of a people not playing issue, least it is for me. I’ve ran successful guilds in many games (success being measured by regular participation and not sheer size), but GW2 really does lack the glue for both holding players attention long enough and making a guild beneficial enough to be in. Part of it too is just the sheer amount of games available to play as competition.

I pretty much focus on one game for as long as i feel good about playing it. A lot of my guildies/friends bounce around from game to game and really don’t like to commit a bunch of time to the scope of an MMO.

None of these are excuses, they are just facts based around my perception of the people I’ve know for awhile. I could do more, but than it becomes even more work that i really don’t have time to do, which is also part of it, but a lot less so.

Clearing the high level zones (completing) will get you rare and/or exotic stuff. It’s not very tough to do solo. The main problem is it’s often useless other than selling or salvaging. But, you do make good money doing it (by good i mean enough to get you a decent set off the TP). There’s also karma vendors that will sell you exotics for karma and of course the laurel vendor to get you top level gear (exotics). Quite a few options to get you to gear, especially if you do dailies and monthlies.

Maybe in the big picture there has to be constant demand for rare and exotic crafted weapons in some form, as heavy handed as it may be.

They’d be better served redesigning crafting than trying to force onto everyone else a use for that crafted junk.

Just because you crafted it doesn’t mean anyone is interested in it. I bet you didn’t even look to see if it would sell for a profit before you crafted ten of them consecutively.

I did the math on exotic carrion staffs last night, it would cost you more to buy it than it does to craft, you make no profit selling them either, due to fees. For awhile it was much cheaper to craft rares and salvage for ectos than it was to actually buy the ectos, but those days are long gone. The market has actually become closer to fair in most cases, at least when it comes to crafting. The margins are really tight. Do i spend 5 or 6 more silver a piece just to buy them or do i just craft them? What’s my time really worth?

Not all RNG loot systems pin their entire endgame on a <0.2% drop chance.

Ha yeah, i don’t even think it’s that high. 2 out of 1000? I think we’d see more then. Maybe it was .2 out of the karka chest…. It’s closer to .08 out of the forge i’d bet and quite possibly .02 from a chest. There are people posting videos of well over 1000 rares into the forge and getting bupkiss.

Yeah without the glue, people really don’t stick it out.

There’s a good real world example of groups of people most everyone can relate to. Say you join a group of what you might consider like minded and share common interests and that group is say 50 people, of those 50, how many would you think you’d actually spend time with outside the group or even inside the group events? Not many most likely. Critical mass for a good majority of people is pretty low, having a good group of 8 people you enjoy spending time with I would say is pretty close to average, even in real life situations. When it gets more anonymous, we tend to feel like it should be more, but in reality it rarely ever is.

Once again the flawed assumption that the precursor is the entire legendary or even close..

Yeah i see this a lot. And the 5 of people that have a legendary isn’t factual either, it’s far less than 1 on my server. Just looking at the auction house you can see it’s less than 1, if it was even 1% the cost would be at least half of what it is. Maybe, if you squeeze the population (to people that actively play daily) you might see a %5 that have a precursor. Interestingly enough, people would rather just use the forge since it’s not like you toss in 4 rare greatswords in and get howl, if you get a precursor, you’d be getting dusk. Getting what you actually want from a chest is an even bigger crapshoot. There in lies just as big a problem as the RNG from the mystic toilet.

Since when is the only way to get a pre-cursor trough the Mystic Forge? It never was. Since day one, you can loot pre cursors from all chests after an Orr Temple event, or after the Claw of Jormag battle. After Mid-November the drop rate got buffed, it is now possible to find it in any JP Chest, Shatterer, Tequatl & Claw chest and still in all Orr Temple chests. It even drops in WvW as regular loot! Srsly, before you go whine about how many gold you have already wasted to try to get your precursor in MF, go outside LA, do events, play WvW, and you might be lucky.
Tho I’m not 100% happy with the current pre-cursor system as well, a (long) Scavenger Hunt would indeed be the best way to improve it.

This isn’t true, not even close. The karka chest got an increased drop rate, that’s the only time it happened. I do everything you’ve mentioned multiple times a week and i’m usually lucky to see a few rares in a day, let alone an exotic. You almost make it sound like it drops from the sky if you pray hard enough to dwayna. You can easily tell based on hard data off the auction house. Post karka event i could get the lover for a bit over 90g (or even 128g) it’s now over 600g, that only tells you the drop rate is extremely low based on hard numbers.

My friend got precursor from JP chest, I got precursor from regular WvW loot. What I try to make clear is that the Legendary is a long-term goal, you should not waste hours & gold trying to get it in the MF, just do what you were doing (except sPvP) and you might find a precursor yourself.

I completely agree and I do that stuff since i enjoy it. I’m not running from event to event or JP to JP savaging a precursor. The main thing i disagree with is any buff to the drop rate, it simply just isn’t there. If it is it’s negligible. There’s enough RNG built into the recipe for the precursor with clovers to warrant it not being so harsh with the precursors. IMHO.

Oops, My Guild Died While I Wasn't Looking

I’m in 2 guilds, one just for the site i run and another that my wife is in. My Guild is basically dead and not for lack of trying. My wife’s guild has close to 200 people in it, in which on any given day, the busiest they are is about 40 people online, of which maybe 20% actually talk to each other, let alone play together. It’s not really the fault of the game either, this is been true in every game that’s had guilds or clans, people move on, and play something else. This not to mention how gamers typically don’t tend to want to work, we do enough of that at actual work. It takes work to run a guild, even then it’s a gamble on the type and amount of people you get that stick around.

Is this a fair fix for precursors?

Precursors: Will it ever end?

It’s not about the effort, i really don’t put much effort into it at all, i’m not bent on getting one. I’m in no rush, i’m sure things will change, it’s just a really poor system that’s been put in place in lieu of giving it much thought and it’s sad. I think the majority of complaints are valid and no one i’ve seen that wasn’t being sarcastic is even remotely asking for it to be easy, it’s just now the drop rate is so stacked against you, you’d be better off playing vegas odds. People get em, I know quite a few that have gotten them out of chests during the karka event, and a super limited few that got them alternatively. Most just sold them off, since the epic climb to make a legendary is enough to not bother. Tack on the RNG issue with the precursors and you’ve got a pretty messed up economy. At least they’ve finally made lodestones more attainable.
