Precursors: Will it ever end?

Crybabies.

Im a casualplayer, got a full time job and so far i got TWO precursors.

Learn how to get em and then start crying if u still fail, im pretty sure many of u arent even trying to get one and just farming money to buy them.

My first precurs i got from EB jumping puzzle chest. Venom (Trident) BUH. :C

My second one i got from Mystic forge, i threw in around 500 1handed swords to get my zap but the thing is i ended up with MORE money then i started with.

I doubt i was superlucky cus my guildleader got one after like 600 weaps too.

FYI i started with 40G and ended up with 105G and a Zap worth 250G.

L2P.

Yeah because this is definitely a L2P issue thanks!( sarcasm )
Seriously the precursor issue is by far one of my biggest peeves about GW2, I enjoy the game and a Legendary weapon is one of my goals but finding the precursor is the most difficult part. I refuse to buy Zap from the TP, I’m not going to pay the gold for it, the mystic toilet has yet to yield the results I seek but until we get a scavenger hunt that’s the best shot I have. I really wish ArenaNet had implemented a scavenger hunt at launch and I hope they are actually working on one as they claim to be. This is obviously a hot button issue with many of us so please ANet fix it somehow.

I agree, this is by far not even close to a l2p issue and im thankful i don’t have to deal with short sighted people in my guild over this. I’ve done EB at least 40 times and not gotten one, L2P, ha…

I’ve played the toilet game enough to know you’re not making money doing it, ever. Toss in 500 rares and basically loose it all, sure if you get really lucky you’ll get a really rare exotic that sells for enough to maybe cover part of the cost of those 500 rares, but you’re not going to make money, period, ever. If that was the general rule of thumb than everyone could easily do that for profit. How about L2 comprehend the issue. I wasn’t even trying for anything but getting my wife the lover and that cost me plenty with 0 return. The gambling system RNG, needs to go, at the very least, for precursors. I really have no idea how anyone at anet thought this was a good idea.

Is this a fair fix for precursors?

I’m curious why playing the auction house isn’t skill/intellegence based? Seriously, not everyone can do it and profit. It’s certainly more skill based than dropping money in a slot machine. Also, why penalize people that want to drop 100’s of dollars on gems to get there? Is it somehow hurting peoples pride to have some shmo turning gems into gold to get one?

I work hard for my money and I’m a skilled professional, if i would choose to dump 500 bucks into anets pockets, why should i be penalized?

I’m not doing these things, but, I am playing devil’s advocate here. I just don’t think limiting choices for people is a good idea. The current system seems fine beyond the precursor deal, which is all the more reason people really need to be able to buy them.

I’d be fine with not being able to sell legendaries (i would actually prefer that), but I refuse to see how pulling precursors off the market is in anyway a good idea.

I’m lazily approaching a bi-frost and I do here and there gamble (mostly with runes i loot), but i’m not dumping my fortunes into a slot machine when i can easily just buy it (i.e. with real world cash or playing the auction house).

There is a corner in metrica that has dis-functioning golems that drop dead every 10 seconds or so and there are a bunch of them. It’s part of the heart, but you can always res them. Takes about 3 minutes to complete healer that way, doesn’t impede on events, you don’t have to deal with the reactor craziness or ask you wife to go kill herself. Pretty much all win there.

You’re Insane :p (over-exaggeration FTL, which goes along with the “obscene” statement you made). How many event’s does it take to get 4500 karma? And you really don’t get mystic coins any other way. It’s all profit for just playing the game, pretty much in about 30 minutes of your time, at most.

Ectos, how many do you get a week?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: munkiman.3068

munkiman.3068

I’ve been extremely lucky with drops and I did manage to get a nice amount of BLSK’s out of the chests for keys. So i typically salvage all rares and exotics into ectos daily, unless the exotic is worth more than the possible 3-5 ectos + mats and the rune i would get from salvage, sometimes it’s not, although rarely. Between Maw, Jormag and an orr zerg last night i walked away with 3 rares and an exotic, which selling the exotic netted me about 3g 40s. I think that equaled about 10 ecto or so and that in just about 4 hours time. It’s not like that every night, but i do get at least 2 rares a day.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

munkiman.3068

Seems like a good estimate really. I don’t play every day and the times i do it’s about 3-4 hours at night, more on the weekends. I don’t run a lot of dungeons either, but do Maw, and Orr Zerg and my dailies. I typically net about 20-25 a week, but most of the time i’m funneling them off to the wife to make clovers. I’ve been keeping a stack around just for me to use though.

You could always just sell everything you find and buy them to, might get you a few more a week that way.

While i agree with many of the complaints, I also got a chuckle seeing it. There’s many thoughts on this type of thing that go on and basically the logic follows with leave the game or have an option to turn it off or worse, the blatant snide remarks and slang terms. My wife wants The Dreamer now more than ever, which means i’ll be soon seeing lots of unicorns passing rainbow gas in my future. Pretty sure though it’s not going to break my vision of the game. If anet continues to add the cheesy effects to the new weapons though, i’m might be the one begging for an off button.

Share your data about perceived strange drop behavior here!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

munkiman.3068

About odd drop behavior……lets see…..
Spark farming
A basic mf gear setup with two mf daggers one of which has superior luck rune and pumpkin cookie buff.
Got about 3 inventories of items,1 lodestone and the rest useless junk but that was only for the very first hour and from there it went downhill for 3 days on a row no matter the area i was.
Lets start seeing the sideffects now.
For one everything that went to the forge didnt produce a rare, and we are talking for 5 inventories worth of greens.
Also guildmates reported that if no guild mf buff is on,they also dont see drops (we are talking about quality drops here, not the junk you pick from everywere).
And just to switch the field, last spark farming party i was on one member picked 7 lodestones another member picked 1 and the rest got nothing.
There were already speculations within the guild that some players are for some unknown reason haveing a high rate while others get nothing, and this doesnt help the general misery feeling.

This.
There is a definite disparity between Friends and Guildies. I’m not taking hard and fast numbers, but i can tell you our daily runs that include the dragons and the orr zerg + doing dailies in Queensdale, i find my luck much higher that the people i run with. It really seems odd that the people doing the exact same stuff have such a large range of drop quality.

I wouldn’t assume player skill is equal in any of this. There are far more people that don’t understand their build/profession than there is an issue with MF gear. You can do runs faster with better skilled players that know the challenges in full MF than you ever could with the prior.

Personally I don’t care either way, take it out or leave it in. I’d rather see better tutorials and better sorted info for newer players.

I’m wondering the same thing… It appears the pvp set is saying that i already have it on my pve set. So if i have sup of the ele or sup of the guardian on both sets i get 12/6, so either my pyp set is applying them already or it’s just a visual bug. But it’s definitely taking my pvp runes into account visually. Not sure if the stats are being applied however.

How do you really know that people who already looted the chest got it? Or people who weren’t on at all that day? People lie about this stuff all the time. Like the people who claimed they looted 4 precursors or whatever from the chest the day of the event.

I actually have proof of this, one person that wasn’t online that day at all got one, another who was in my party during the event and got the end chest got the mail. Like i said earlier, this is really the worst possible way to handle this. It be better to just pass out the chest to everyone again then try to automate some sort of sorting criteria. Is it fair? No, but it’s even less fair to have to even deal with a single person that didn’t get the end reward and still not get the mail reward. The economy is kinda borked now anyway, mine as well flood it with more typically useless crap, maybe it might actually balance things out a bit better.

To be honest, I think this is more of a player issue than a game one.

- It’s never the player issue. Players are static. Game is what molds the behavior of players. What is easy to do, what is hard to do? What sort of visibility and access constraints there are? What kind of playing is encouraged and what is punished? These are questions of design.

This is completely inaccurate to this discussion, players aren’t static, their lives and needs change. This game allows more choice with less punishment. If someone that leads a guild demands people to rep 24/7 with few exceptions that’s their choice. I have a pretty tight nit group and i don’t demand repping, they do it because we enjoy playing together, period.

I run a guild and am a member of another and rep the guild that i run with. It’s more at the hands of players than ever in GW2.

Good players leave bad guilds and bad players leave good guilds, however, good players do not leave good guilds.

Its a player issue, not a system issue.

So essentially you’re saying “Do nothing” about the problem?

It’s like climate change then. Just ignore it and maybe it will go away.

This is one of GW2’s biggest issues. MMORPG.com and now Gamespy.com have both run articles about this issue. Numerous people in this thread have noticed the problem.

I don’t expect people with less than 500 hours in GW2 to realize it is even a issue but to those of us who are well over 500 hours it’s become apparent there is a pretty big problem with guilds in this game.

Say it’s a player issue all you want. Any economist would argue that it’s a system issue. Are you going to ask people to interact more in Guild chat? Stop guild hopping as much? Good luck with that approach.

Maybe we should just ask people to stop whaling, elephant tusk hunting, insider trading……….yeah, that will work. Maybe we should just ask people to get along instead of having laws next. 10,000 years of human history would disagree that works.

Argue all you want about human nature, it won’t change human nature.

I fully agree. To people who disagree, look at it this way:

quite some problems, including all the guild hopping, can be fixed by one of these two things

1) change in player mentality
2) change in game mechanics

The first point isn’t going to happen. So if the problem is to be solved, it has to be the second. It’s as simple as that.

The only fix ANet could do to the game that would quell guild hopping is make some sort of penalty for changing guilds. Quite literally Guild hopping happens in MANY games regardless of what systems are in place, if people don’t feel connected to the guild members at all, they are going to leave/not represent. Right now, with the multi guild system, it’s just more apparent how big the problem (if you even see it as one) is.

If it’s a problem for a leader to deal with, than they simply need to be kicked. I’m all for the better tools suggested here and in other threads and i think they are needed. But the bashing of the multi guild system in the sense that it promotes guild hopping really seems to be false to me.

Running a guild takes a good deal of effort, it’s also takes the participation of it’s members to have a good social experience. The guild setup in GW2 is fine, it’s always been an issue to start up a guild and have it fail in short order. It takes a certain kind of person to run a successful guild in as much as it takes a bit of luck to find the right people that fit well together. People have always blamed the tools in MMO’s, when it’s really more about the players.

Other than sPvP, culling issues and the absolutely horrible camera, i have no other real issues with the game as a whole. I do run across bugged events, but they are far fewer than i’ve seen in most MMO’s (even the straight questing models).

I have an 80, put in tons of hours and still have tons more to do. I never get bored playing, i don’t ever really feel like i’m doing the same stuff over and over, mostly since i mix things up.

There does need to be more reason to go to specific zones, but over all i don’t find the lack of players many people are complaining about.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: munkiman.3068

munkiman.3068

1) An Ascended weapon will have additional weapon damage, which all by itself will add more than 2% to damage even at a realistically expected increase… never mind the increase of a full set of berserker’s Ascended over Exotic. But, it will be some time before you can dress in all Exotic and “appreciate the math” of being pounded on by someone in all Ascended.

2) The percentage increase in other games doesn’t really matter. Mobs are scaled up to meet that percentage and in PVP gear differences are usually nerfed (because fighting someone that does 3 times your damage is dumb). So you might say that stat-wise you could suffer through Ascended level content in Exotic? Well, agony is there to prevent anything like that!

3) Only having 3 slots of Ascended items so far is a non-talking point. They are in the design, and they are coming to a grindy experience near you soon!

There is already a huge disparity in WvW, going toe to toe with an actual level 80 with full exotics stat’d will get you killed regardless how good a player you are at say actual level 50 or less, AKA why there is so much zerging.

Most of my guildies don’t have a single Ascended and have faced level 12 Agony, it’s certainly doable.

I enjoy the dungeon, as do many people, which is why there are rather large complaints about them pulling so many people there, i don’t consider content i enjoy doing, grindy.

Why are you telling me about dying at level 50 nonsense? You are implying an 100-hour grind to max level makes a 500+ hour grind for decent gear on top of it just fine? Level 80 and Exotics was about the limit most people would do for a WvW experience with another class (many I know didn’t even want to do that). Ascended gear is a bit insane even with just one class.

Sorry, you feel the 100+ hours in the game was a grind. I don’t know what to tell you. I’m in full exotics and enjoyed the journey.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

If the reason the zones are emptying is people enjoy doing them so much, then why do we need ascended gear to lure them there?

How about you put your money where your mouth is and join those of us who campaign against it.

Heck.. i’ll put up 100 bucks in real, hard cash that if:
1 – the stat bonuses on ascended gear are removed such that its only equivalent to exotics
2 – the same ascended gear is made available for karma and tokens from other dungeons
or
3 – the ascended gear is removed

or
3 – the ascended gear is removedthen these horrible FotM’s will empty as if they were … “FOTM”

First i’m not for or against the addition to the ascended type, I actually reserve my judgement when there are some actual facts to back up an ongoing treadmill of gear progression, in which point i will stop playing altogether. I certainly agree with the outcry, but i can hardly justify it for myself.

I don’t think at all however that the new tier is there to lure players into the dungeon, i think the new mechanic agony is part of the reason for the new tier as well as adding what was lacking between exotic acquires and legendary acquires. I think there needs to be a balance there, which was severely lacking at release. Not to mention the lack of legendary armor types.

I could be totally wrong, but i foresee this. Legendaries will be the stat cap and slightly better than ascended, which will be slightly better than exotics and that will be the final complete set of gear tiers for some time to come. The methods and difficult of acquisition of each set will be more balanced, exotics being the baseline for difficulty to acquire. I’m completely fine with that.

Also, no, highest tier gear in most MMO’s aren’t easily attainable, they require specific areas of content to get, typically impact pvp scenarios and push the trend to stat increasing to the limit. That may be where gw2 is at this very moment (in simply acquiring this new gear), but i trust it will go in the right direction

GW2 wasn’t meant to be “most MMOs”, it was meant to be different in (among others) that very aspect – read the manifesto if you will. What, now, is the right direction in your opinion?

My entire point was, it isn’t like other MMO’s and that as they progress in adding this new tier, along with new content, it will be attainable across multiple methods. If it was in the game at launch, it wouldn’t be an issue now. There is a lot of hindsight here, with the intro of this new tier, however i actually trust that it’s the end of it.

My god people.. they added one tier of gear as a one-time gameplay improvement, why the kitten is everyone acting like this is the apocolypse?

It may be one gear now, but when all the QQers get those Ascended, they will complain more. What will Anet do then? Add another tier of item. This is how gear-treadmill happens. kitten like this happened alot of time on others mmo, and Im afraid it will happen on GW2 as well.

So you guys think it’s a good idea to make >huge< assumptions and complain non-stop about something that has not yet happened and may never happen? How is this helping anyone? How is this beneficial?

It’s not assumptions. ArenaNet explicitly stated that the current Ascended gear and infusions are only “the first level” (read tier) and that they plan to “build upon these levels of Item progression in future content”.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/

You’re reading only what you want to apparently, you might want to try and comprehend the fact that she specifically mentions adding more ascended gear types, not tiers and more legendaries. When speaking about the first level, she’s speaking directly to infusions, which also comes from the fact that there already are 3 types, which could specifically mean more options as well for those types. i’m not nit-picking here, it’s what it says, not what’s somehow fantasized.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

Also, no, highest tier gear in most MMO’s aren’t easily attainable, they require specific areas of content to get, typically impact pvp scenarios and push the trend to stat increasing to the limit. That may be where gw2 is at this very moment (in simply acquiring this new gear), but i trust it will go in the right direction

If you look back on the original data mined stats for legendaries, they were stat’d higher and i wish they would have stuck to that. I also wish they would have had a tier between exotics and legendary from release, which would make all of this bickering moot. This is where we are now and i have no reason to say or believe that this will change anytime soon. I embrace the change, i just wish more people would.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

Sims is the best selling PC game to date and has no progression that doesn’t mirror real life progression (money, fame, power, prestige). Guild Wars was and to an extent still is a successful game based entirely around stat capping. There are a lot of assumptions based around failure for this game that simply aren’t justified. I don’t assume that this change means that they are suffering losses due to the lack of stat progression. It seems to me that someone decided to go in the direction of this new agony mechanic, which actually required a change in gear functionality and by adding this gear decided to make it slightly better so that people would adopt the need to do what it took to get it. While it’s true they definitely needed more end game content, that was the hook. It was more about not having the content at level 80 than it ever was about inserting a gear treadmill. I think they were really relying on the achievement system to keep players playing longer and really misjudged that aspect. Take into account the “legendaries not feeling legendary” talk and you now have this new tier.

I’ve repeated this numerous times and will do so again. There is nothing outside the FotM that requires this new tier, meaning if a player has no desire to do the dungeon, they won’t be missing out. They’ve also stated that they would add a way to acquire this new tier to WvW, meaning WvW only players will have access to it as well. I would also assume that when they do add it to other areas, the need to attain the tier will also increase equally. It takes time to roll these changes out and it’s pretty sad that some people simply don’t trust the manefesto philosophy.

There was no promise…. a manifesto is not a promise or binding contract/document… it has no weight in forcing the author or reader to follow it. It’s generally a bad rule of thumb to stray from your guidelines, but it’s perfectly within their right to do it.

Ah ok, so the United States Declaration of Independence is a rule of thumb.

I still don’t understand why there needs to be 30 threads all arguing the same thing. It’s in the game, it’s going to be able to be acquired in other ways and it’s most likely here to stay. I think people need to move along. This debate is getting worse than politics.

As in politics, the only way to change things is to voice your opinion. ANet should just do a poll: increased stats on ascended items, yes or no. If the majority actually votes for yes, I’ll accept it.

There are plenty of polls, most seem either on the fence or like the change, yet some polls have a real bias toward hating it. Sadly, the sample size is pretty small, just like on here.

I have no issue with voicing opinions, i have a problem with people continually making new threads dealing with the same topic over and over, then people complaining that they are merged together, as if to silence them. This is one of the worst ways to voice your opinion, it honestly makes people look dumb and/or self centered as their opinion matters more.

There are plenty of people making comparisons, comparing the declaration to the manifesto is just downright silly.

There are far more people in LA playing FotM than sitting here complaining about ascended gear, you don’t need statistics to prove that. 10000+ posts that contains multiple posters and people that are fine with the change isn’t any better at proving that the majority hate this change. I have a feeling ANet has far better tools at measuring this kind of thing than some forum posters.

yeah there are more people FORCED to grind fotm
Many have left the game

Few are doing other activities.
Most of them doesn t have requirements to fotm.

Check for yourself in any server….
I am amongst the mindless farmers, really angry but hoping this madness will stop.

That’s fine you can call it however you like, but i don’t feel forced to run the dungeon, i don’t feel pressure to find/craft ascended gear. Anything before level 10 of FotM doesn’t require (and even then the agony is doable without it) ascended stuff, no where else requires it either. On our server there are almost always multiple overflows when before there were not. Maybe i’m of the minority, maybe most of the people i’ve talked to about it are as well, but i really don’t mind the addition, it does nothing to ruin my experience. I love fractals and have no issue with the gear.

Focii are items that make you feel empowered and or comfortable. A teddy bear can be a focus. Items that keep you calm under pressure so that you can focus on the task at hand.

I’m going to touch on a couple things you mentioned. I missed out on much of it as i too had RL issues. Also, I’m sorry to hear about your sister, not much i can say beyond that.

First and foremost, the ascended gear currently only available in the dungeon is also only required in the dungeon, no where else in the game will you be required to use it. As a matter of fact the stats on it aren’t really that great given the upgrade slot is only for infusions, either defensive or offensive. It’s also possible to craft them in the forge, however expensive. They have said, as they expand on the ways to acquire these pieces, there may also be a need for them outside the dungeon. Right now however, that isn’t the case.

Second, as to one time events, think about how many one time events happen daily, how many things you might miss out on. It’s hardly something that doesn’t normally occur. Everything found in that end chest is available to find elsewhere in the game, including pre-cursors. I’m glad they made the drop rate higher temporarily, if for no other reason than to drive the prices down in the AH.

Highest retaliation on a guardian is already 5 seconds 6 if you go the virtue line with vengeful and that’s only one skill for underwater combat. Most of them are 1-3 seconds. I think they’ve been saying they were going to look into it, but i honestly think it’s fine as is.

I was unable to find a group for a dungeon: no time

I put together a group for level 1 last night in about 5 minutes. I also have guildies to group with which are willing to go back and do the lower levels with me. I really think they need to set it up so that if a party member is level 7 you can select anything up to that level. I’m sure that would introduce other problems but it would completely avoid the level issue when PuG’n it.

I don’t think they changed anything but the dungeon drops and maybe the chests from meta events. Lodestones do drop during the jormag event, which is where most people go to get them or in Honor of the Waves dungeon. I think they do very rarely drop off mobs in the zone, but nothing like the jormag event or HotW dungeon.

During the phase 2 event there was a post about make sure you have your map fragment. Then later something i read about that part of the event chain being removed since many people couldn’t complete the Nol part, since it was bugged most of the time. So i think the part that was removed was a turn in for that fragment. No idea what it gave as a reward obviously, but i too remember something about a backpiece and it might have been that part.
