4 gold?
Find something that you can buy for 3 or 4 gold and sell for 5 or 6 gold. Rinse and repeat until you reach 40 gold.
Then find something worth 30-40 gold that you can sell for 50-60 gold. Rinse and repeat until you reach 400 gold.
Really the trick is putting in buy orders at the lowest reasonable price (not just one copper above, but instead possibly below the lowest buy order). And then selling in the same manner. If there is 1 sell order at 42g, 1 at 44g, one at 46g and twelve at 50g, you should be putting your sell order at 49g99s99c. That way when it sells out, you’re in before the hugh stack, but not losing out on an extra 1 or two gold.
Paying attention is really the key to making money. If you find something you can flip like that, keep doing it until it’s not profitable anymore.
I made 25 gold last night flipping items that buy for 4 gold and sell for 6. And I did it while playing the game. I just stopped every 30 minutes to use the trading post for 10-15 seconds.
^This^ It takes some time to get a market focus, but once you have a decent range of items you can basically turn your 4g into 40g almost overnight. I’d start small, pick some low margin items, say powerful blood (don’t use that since everyone might use it now, obviously) and see if you can make a couple copper in short order. Be frugal to start with, don’t dive right into buying 4g items that you might sell for 6 initially. Build up your instincts.
There are a vast majority of people that might get a pre (if they don’t want it) and sell it to the highest buy order. So the actual supply you won’t see. It could very well be a fairly small part of the total population that is dictating these prices. That’s not really a conspiracy theory, it’s more of a general concept, since we can’t really see what is moving through the TP. If i get a pre i didn’t want (like dusk or dawn) I’d pretty much sell it to the highest bidder and get the cash instead of sit on it undercutting the highest seller. Basically, it’s just too much G to list at those prices for most people.
I would probably do something similar if I was to come across an unwanted precursor. I most likely wouldn’t sell it to the highest bidder, but I wouldn’t undercut the lowest seller by 1c either. I would probably list it at the average value between the two.
That way, I’d make a little more money and someone could pick up a precursor at a “deal”. In that situation, I think it’s a win / win. While I wouldn’t be maximizing the amount of money I’d be making, I would reduce MY risk of being undercut and I could put that money to better use in other ways.
While true, it still misses that data, which might be a much larger factor. Many people that complain about the prices really don’t take into account the “hidden” transactions that most likely happen regularly. So in a sense they do have a point, there very well may be, in fact, a pretty small number of people that can even afford the listing fees for these top priced items and are to some extent manipulating the top end of the market. We aren’t talking about what it actually cost to buy a pre in those cases. There is a pretty good chance that 200g off lowest seller will win you a pre in a fairly short time (say a month). Most people react to that lowest seller price they see in the listing, when i’m fairly certain most folks would at least get rid of it with least risk and faster by selling it fairly close to highest bidder.

You people never learn, eeh?
“Omg, halloween skins are soooo RNG! I’ll never buy keys again!”
5 months later…
“Omg, fused skins are soooo RNG! I’ll never buy keys again!”
I don’t even think that’s the point, least not for me. I never said i wouldn’t buy keys and i bought $200 worth for a ticket. I didn’t get one and so therefore that’s pretty crap. I’d actually be much happier if i didn’t get 3 hairstyle kits and 2 total makeover kits or at the very least be able to sell them back to the store for more keys. It’s not even buyer beware and it would be nice if you don’t want a product you could actually do something with it. I personally don’t care about RNG for this stuff, but the pre’s are a totally different story. There should be a legendary gambler title to go along with it, least then it would actually feel like it was worth"something" tossing all your G down the toilet.
Also, i wonder if it’s only the new chests that drop the tickets. I bought all mine on the TP and you’d think after almost 200 tries i’d get at least one. If so, someone should really stipulate that, otherwise i just basically wasted $200 bucks…

The way it’s set up now is that combos are the key, period. Commanders say stack on me because of it, even mindless zergs that stack on a commander are triggering massive combos that have only a size limit, not a number limit. A zerg running around with might stacks, ret, rejuvenation and a couple d/d eles spamming auras (not combo obviously) is a force to be reckoned with. In counter to that, imagine an aoe without a cap hitting a zerg of 30 all with retaliation. A met shower would drop the caster before he could channel the whole skill.
I’ve said this in another thread, but I know a couple people that go pre’s just tossing in random rares. It still seem ridiculous to have to play the slots to get a pre…
Congrats to the OP either way.
I have a stack and a half of dust all before the drop rate went away and i didn’t farm it at all. Now it rarely drops, no conspiracy here, just basic fact.
They don’t drop, you have to double click them, then apply them to the item.
Might want to give this a read…. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo
Combos aren’t limited and are the main reason a (5 man team) can take down a 20+ of unorganized mayhem. Staff is really only worth anything on sieges (either defending or attacking), roam D/D with a few organized teammates and make your life a lot easier. You should be swapping weapons anyway, depending on the situation.
I rarely get them but my guild runs gather bonuses, plus whatever WvW bonuses are up on our server.
I would actually suggest those looking for a specific pre could do it too, simply based on them selling the unwanted one if they get it. Often times i end up making more money with the exotics i get back than the original 4 rares i put in. Either way, you’re getting more bang for your small effort and a G or two closer to buying your dream precursor.
Well, true. It’s one of the first thing we learn about precursors and mystic forge around the first week, before someone discovered 4 weapons of the same kind are a better choice. If 4 weapons at least gives you a hope to get the same weapon and maybe the precursor version, 4 random object is truly a real spin of a roulette like put money on a random number of a roulette, and that number arrive. Once per life.
I honestly think the chances are equal, being that you have a chance at just about any pre-cursor as well as any other random item, i suspect it’s pretty much a wash. It only hurts a little to toss in 4 random rares you got as guaranteed drops, then if you crafted or bought them. Every couple days or so I could have 40 rares to toss in and almost every time i get surprised at what spits back out. Not to mention i’m not flooding the market with rares. I also do this with runes, when i decided to salvage my overs for ectos. 4 rares have often spit out some pretty expensive runes and it cost me no more than 4 uses of a kit, which is usually covered by the ectos return. It does pay to play, if you play it smart.
NSP does Fight Club on Thursday nights, all 3 servers meet up for dueling sessions. Any 3 servers could easily pack EB or a BL and take a head count. It wouldn’t be tough to pin down an accurate number.
You’re going to need a massive amount of data if there is a true RNG on the end of this system. If so, even anet may not be able to give you accurate statistics anyway. Doing this is quite possibly a lost cause.
Yeah, pretty much that^… Really no reason to put in 4 sup runes to get a higher market value rune. Pretty much all the higher value ones you can get for dungeon tokens. You’d be better off saving up all your majors and tossing them in the forge. It’s not like there is any control over what you get.
What’s higher than a sup rune? Not sure what it would spit back to you for 4 sup runes…
There is a trick, actually. Dump all your random rares into the forge… I now know 2 people that dropped chest looted rares and got precursors. Of course it’s going to be a random pre, but it’s still worth it to sell it if it’s one you don’t want. If you do 8 events and loot 12-16 rares a day, there ya go.
Let’s calm down a bit, this isn’t getting us far. Instead let me ask this.
Here are the assumptions that I’m operating under for this question:
1. You feel that PvE and TP have difference levels of gold earning
2. You feel that PvE and TP should have the same level of gold earningWhat would be your plan for implementing a reward system that would achieve what you desire, given the constraint that you may not get rid of the trading post?
I’m pretty much under the impression this thread is yet another complaint about the increasing cost of the precusors. It being based entirely on RNG (maybe not true RNG) but gambling none the less, is overall seen as anything but legendary and needs to be changed, period. This would really eliminate a good chunk of the ruffled feathers over the market in general. Account bound on acquire for legionaries also needs to happen.
Playing the market is a game and a positive part of this game. To me the market feels about right, i wouldn’t expect to earn the same amount simply playing than i would taking the time to be market savvy. I’d actually expect to earn more per hour, as many people that play the market do. People invest IRL, to actually gain more income than they do through normal working means, i don’t see it any different in the game and don’t feel it should be.
I simply can’t stress enough how much the precursor acquisition method needs to be altered. It really needs some creative thinking to make it feel like it’s something epic and not feel like gambling. The TP itself isn’t really an issue.
Maybe they figured you that’s zommoros’s favorite weapon and putting 3 of them in along with the weapon type of your choice spits out a precursor 15% of the time? Totally kidding btw.
Riddle me this batman… How does a person put in 4 random rares and get a precursor? Since a guildy did just that the other day. Basically go buy yourself 4 of any of the cheapest rares you can in bulk and go to town. I can’t imagine that chance is any worse than a world boss chest.
Just as an FYI, I run almost all the highest settings and there are times i don’t actually see the chest, but get the search option. It’s not to terribly often, but it does happen.
There is a very simple way to go about all of your questions in learning stats and traits. Go to pvp, and play with everything, it’s all unlocked, use practice areas to test your build, fight the golems to test your defenses. Learn about basic combos with your girlfriend, put down a field and use a blast finisher or combo finisher and see how they work. Discovery is half the fun and the rest just makes you a better player, the 2 of you working together, using the right gear for your build and comboing well off each other will make you a powerhouse team in practically any dungeon.
My game crashed once since beta… Leads me to believe you have computer issues. Blame MS and their loose policies for driver coding. Honestly, if you contact support they can probably help you sort it out in short order.
I tossed in 100 rares the other day and got nothing, I’ve done it numerous times and got nothing. I don’t mind trying when i have the mats to make the rares. Otherwise it’s a waste if you’re going to be buying the stuff.
I had most of the mats to make vision of the mist, not worth near as much as the others, then turned around and sold it for 131g. Made about a 75g profit since i had to buy the much of the ori. I still have 250 blades to make either another vision or invest the money into cores to make one of the others. Vision was easier since it’s ectos. This was all based on the fact that i had a stack of ectos (from salvages) and almost enough ori.
The kits aren’t RNG, they are based on actual hard numbers. The only RNG you could attribute to it is the amount of ectos and even then it’s within 5%.
Every post i’ve seen and the pretty large now samples sizes i’ve done are all within 3-5% variance. As a matter of fact, if you get’s the kits for free (BLSK) it’s far cheaper to buy a stack of rare armor @ 23s each and sell of the runes and mats.
you could do a no collateral loan system and add a Break Kneecap skill when someone defaults.
I’m pretty kitten about the forge in general. There have been many times that i dropped in 4 80 exotic slotted and have gotten unslotted back. This can’t possibly be intended, I’ve always heard you get equal or better back. Getting unslotted (sigil of…) for 4 slotted weapons is unacceptable. This happens with a lot of different items, it needs to be fixed.
And i have also had that issue, getting back a different weapon than what 4 i put in. The mystic toilet really needs work, i certainly don’t mind unpredictable results when tossing in 4 random items (a guildy got leaf of kudzu from 4 random rares), but when you are tossing tons of gold into it, knowing that you should be getting back equal or better and you don’t it’s horrible.
This is exactly what i’d expect, on average i get 25-35% more ectos using BLSK. We had this guild conversation about the same thing, pertaining to you getting more ectos with the BLSK. Many people were under the impression if you were just going for ectos any kit would do. Obviously a wrong assumption. You really don’t need a bigger sample size to see a clear difference.
I’ve personally seen no change between item types or level or cost versus how many you get. With a BLSK you’re actually pushing close to 100% return in ectos. I say close to since you don’t get one every time, but if you do 100 salvages you can get 100+ ectos as i’ve done it before. There has to be something completely random (not tied to a fixed percentage value) as to how many actual ectos you get from a particular rare. Either that or the formula is extremely cryptic. This basically means, results will always vary from person to person, possible even over a very large sample size. You could always assume to get an average, which is how odd’s work in general, but to say you’ll get an ecto 1 in 3 is a long shot at best.
Some people have 5 toons, so they do them on all of them. I personally can’t see me going from dragon timer to dragon timer, but that’s just me.
I noticed this yesterday as well. There were a few zones, not even just the dragon ones that went to overflow. Metrica Province and Wayferer being two other examples. I know they have the Maw and Fire Ele events, but still. I haven’t hit overflow on these maps since launch. I’m on FA BTW.
Now I also noticed that Lions Arch doesn’t seem to go to Overflow since the patch update. I assumed it was mainly because my server has jumped up to tier 2 in WvW and more people are playing that. That assumption hit a wall yesterday though when LA didn’t go to Overflow and when I queued for EB I got right in. So LA isn’t overpacked and WvW didn’t have a queue.
Did they increase the amount of people who can get into LA and thus reduced some of the other maps? That’s what I’m thinking.
Complaining about the overflows though is a little much IMO. I mean you can still do the event and most times it spawns within 20 minutes or so of the event on the real server. I did see in map chat though that some speculated if the dragon timers will be thrown off now if people don’t realize they are in an overflow. Food for thought.
It’s about people doing events based on the timers http://www.guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/us-northern-shiverpeaks , and not having to wait around in an overflow for the event to kick off. In some cases the wait could be 3 hours long.
I think it’s due to people watching timers and guesting… NSP get’s frequent overflows during all the big events now.
With guild bounties queued up for this weekend, i’d like to take a minute as a member & site administrator of LOST to ask that you (an active player) take a look @ http://letsgetlost.net and possibly apply @ http://letsgetlost.net/index.php/forum/33-application-to-lost/
As a 200+ member guild with about 30-40% active participation we are looking for more. We are a PVX guild with regularly scheduled events, Vent & Mumble (optional) voice services and a brand spanking new website. We are consistently looking for new, fresh ideas and active participation among our members, so check us out and have a box-o-fun, lost style!
Path 2 is clearly bugged, i have no issues with the changes other than the fact that there’s some serious bugs in AC now. Ghost Eater which is now basically ghost busting, get’s stuck which makes it impossible to complete. Deltha randomly bugs out and doesn’t built the traps. We really didn’t have any issue with the difficulty, but when you get to the end and it’s a no go, it’s seriously frustrating.
It’s working for us, it does not work however for some setups and i’m not sure why.
Taidha comes every time as long as you res the merchant. We’ve done it about 8 times now and without fail. It does take a good 15 minutes for them to come back with the ship though. The timer does seem long, although i’m not even sure how long. I never heave waited around for it to trigger again. FYI you can pull the whole champ pack to the top of the ship which makes fighting them a ton easier. Especially since you don’t have to worry about the adds.
I haven’t ever completed font of rhand so i’m unsure about that one.
Here’s my current theory. It has to be a long timer event, like megadestroyer or maybe even taida covington. Since we know the mega destroyer drops 2 named exotics, it’s less likely, but not out totally. There was also mention of the Tomb of Morlog, which may possibly have an event. I have serious doubts about Font of Rhand, but it’s worth mentioning.
Even though most people have just about hopped on the Shadow Behemoth or Catacombs events as the final rests dropping place, something caught my attention while doing the personal story on one of my alts. While doing the temple of Lyssa story mission, the ever so lovable Trahearne says “Before Orr sank, this was the final resting place of Lyssa’s most loyal followers.” (see attached screen shot) This caught my eye rather quickly like anything that remotely can be linked to the final rest does. Has anyone looked into the events around the Cathedral of Eternal Radiance such as the Kill the Corrupted High Priestess? From my server, Malchor’s Leap is generally quite dead so getting enough players to do this event would be quite a task.
We’ve done this event nightly for the last few months and it’s typically a zerg of 25-50. Chance of it being any of the temples is practically 0.
As for Taidha Covington you don’t have to keep the merch alive, you just have to go res here after the escort/kill champ chain. This is why it says has a chance to spawn, since most people that did it prior didn’t know she had to leave the island also. Every time i’ve done this (4 times now) i went back, res’d the merch and waited about 15 minutes for the next step in the chain. And you’re all right, it’s a pain to do with only a few people, but it’s also an achievement.
I’m still thrown by the large boss/large chest thing and yes Taidha Covington was mentioned briefly earlier, so it’s another possibility to add to the list.
I wouldn’t rule out champs, since they are typically considered unique.
Related to the forsaken fortune thing. I finished that “run” 2 days ago. The chest at the end is a small one….very small. In fact i was having issues even seeing the chest because of the boss’es corpse which was on it.. There are no “gargoyles” in that mini dungeon. Just some big “grave digger” that is irritating but definitely soloable.
It’s HIGHLY unlikely that’s the place u get it.
Also take in consideration that, that staff was ingame before that dungeon was even opened (Halloween)
Ahh ok makes sense. Still, what about megadestroyer? I don’t know why i’m so adverse to thinking it’s Zho`quafa, it just doesn’t feel like it’s right.
There was also mention of of Forsaken Fortune, which fits rather nicely with the gargoyle idea. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forsaken_Fortune. Being tied to an achievement makes it rather interesting and only “some” people mentioned it. I’ve done it a few times and if i remember, the chest was rather large. Not sure about the uniqueness of the boss though.
The only thing that lures me to megadestroyer is that you could consider him unique in the fact that he is the only destroyer troll in the game that i know of. There are at least 3 eye’s of zhaitan roaming the world. Even though he’s only a champ, he’s still pretty unique and he’s big and spawns a big chest. Also the pure fact that no one really farms him as the timers haven’t been updated in ages. The only other possibility in that list is SB, just since he was bugged for so long, but he’s been farmed quite a bit in the last month or so. That may not qualify as enough people looting the chest, but i bet it’s a lot closer than megadestroyer.
My bet is on megadestroyer, huge boss, huge “ancient” chest, rarely completed.

May have forgotten some, I’m still combing through the posts.
You can ditch Keeper Jones, that’s the grenth event and it’s farmed a LOT as well as Balthazar. I doubt it’s catacombs IMO.
Large boss and Large Chest pretty much narrows this list down a ton.
Ok,
Jeffery has cleared this up for us, i havent read it fully and properly but have a read, Btw Thanks Jeffery
Unfortunately this doesn’t say anything we don’t already know. I’m trying to understand why this is even such a rare drop? Is the chance actually worse or equal to a precursor? If so that seems really odd. I got Zihtans Reach in the first 2 weeks of playing, so are we saying this is more rare than that?
I say we cannot rule out the common large events, specially in light of a bug being found with the qualifying of loot, which could of been blocking the dropping of Final Rest from its chest. Something along of the lines of “Yes you can have loot, but you do not qualify for anything more than ….”.
The qualifier for loot has to do with drops, not chest loot.
They wouldn’t be saying it’s in game and it’s really not. Somewhere there is a chest that contains this rare item. The biggest problem is there are zero clues anywhere about this or the almost dozen other things that no ones found (or a very limited few). At this point it’s going to be randomly found in some out of the way event, no ones doing very often and of those there are possibly 25 or more… It’s sad that we can’t even get a “there is hints in the game to where to find this thing” or “it’s tied to lore”. They don’t actually have to give us anything direct, just a bit to narrow it down. Otherwise, needle, meet haystack.
Does anyone know how to make this work in teamspeak? I’ve used it in BF3 and ARMA2 and it’s pretty nice. Any idea if gw2 supports this?
It’s clearly not from an event that has been run into the ground tens of thousands of times, that much is for sure.
This ^^^, we cannot rule out a popular event. Just because we have not had someone say they found it does not mean it has not already dropped. How many people run those events yet do not come to forums, and since Final Rest is not on TP, anyone who does not look at the forums might think because it is not listed it might be worthless.
The drop rate IS extremely low so ruling out an event based on its popularity could mean we’re missing it all together.
I can almost promise you it’s not going to be the farmed events. People ping loot (especially named exotics) all the time after looting.
