Deep breaths, meditation /medication, and sleeping pills.

Also, don’t play past 10pm. Studies have shown that staring at bright led lights (in particular the color blue) before bedtime makes it harder for you to feel drowsy or fall asleep.

In an unrelated note, that’s one reason why kindle devices are all in black and white and don’t use led on their screens.

PS The brightness settings on kindle devices are also a tip of the hat to this universal recommendation, e.g. bright in brightly-lit areas, dim and toned down in dark or un-lit areas.

I’m also looking for a decent raiding guild that does exp runs every week.. I don’t have much li since I started like 2 months ago and hard to get kills with grps, but I have experience in every boss except Matt which I never got kill before.

Also just a helpful tip watch out for RAID [raid clear] guild, just got kicked out of their guild by a commander who I was arguing with, he was bullying me much earlier. He couldn’t stand that I blocked him, so he kicked me from guild. I even made a few friends in that guild so just be aware of how their leadership is structured atm

Yeh I agree another issue with poison trail I find is that endure pain and stuff doesn’t work against them.. I’m not sure if it’s classified as condi dmg or what tho. I think even agony behaves in a similar manner tho so yeah it makes sense..

Enraged (this one is a big source imo): Wild strike (a thief auto attack of average 3k can go up to 11000 (cliffside) damage… One shots anyone without full hp with is likely at chest seal as theres simple so much ranged and other stuff.

Your issue with trash mobs and they don’t have defiance bars so just save ur cc for them when enrage? Like it’s not hard no reason to make this any easier nth

Fractals melting together: most of time no issue BUT and here’s the but, if maw, or the Chaos fractal aoe, summon on you when you just double dodges a (must dodge) fractal mechanic: Almost certain death. There are counters but they are few.

Counters like.. running away from a rabbit? I dun understand. The only time it’s really annoying tho is when ur jumping on precarious ledges like in chaos and stuff and suddenly tentacle pops out of nowhere and throws u off.. yeah that’s like hard mode.

Melee is punish very very much imo (a little to much).

Agreed.. kinda. I’m used to melee on bloom by now tho so dunno if it makes me hypocritical to not advocate a change. Also chaos.. still intense for melee. good to have hot feet yes. Like down in melee with him = 100% chance to die.

My issue with recent patch is also: reviving downed ppl (without traits making you protected while doing it) is very hard almost suicide. Toxic trail damages faster then it gives heal to downed ppl. (and to the resser also!). Wild strike can burst the downed down (enraged) before heal connects.

Uhh? thot u have mastery for faster revive also? also where it problem.. like at bloom. but have a nice pug group (nice not one that ignores ur corpse) and u get res easy. If can’t revive, then don’t. thsumanova boss, don’t down. Down, ur fault. Down, u certainly die. So die, ur fault. No backsies

The info on how many ppl are in a squad often doesn’t get updated either, or sometimes it’ll be like 1/0 (which means 9/10) and other times incorrect numbers altogether (8/10 when much less, or sometimes strange numbers like 47/50). Thanks, take me some time to read thru every thing but it helps for now. I’m actually doing better with rotations and stuff, I’m not teled out at start phase anymore and don’t down as much. I try to dodge sideways when I see blue sometimes but boss isn’t that displaced, I can get him back. Last run I tanked him till 20% or so then grp wiped to greens or something idk.

My only problem is that at start phase I tank him a little to side of pylon, I do fine but ppl say they have trouble with grns so they want me to stack on top of pylon itself. It’s harder for me to see there like when the blues are, plus I’d have to dodge back which is harder for me. So I dunno how to practice this, since only time I get is with groups and ppl get frustrated with me even for 1st wipe in training runs.. so yeah dunno

I mean you’d have to give up +5% dmg as well as having shield which means less cc and block if she teles to u, plus vigor is useless since the only thing you’d need to dodge when ranged is her lightning whip attack. Rev also pulses perma fury, swiftness, as well some might so there’s no need to take wh at all except for the trait u mentioned. I mean i agree it’s an option, u just have to give up a few things as I mentioned while rev doesn’t have to sacrifice anything.

Plus I actually did the math wrong, for rev in this case it’s 78% dmg reduction as well as 20% condi reduction about half of the time, or an average of ~60% dmg reduction whole time. No wonder I was able to facetank boss so easily as rev, while it’s hard to even survive for few secs as war. This same thing applies to guard also as they have easy access to prot and regen as well, I mean it’s just not fair. Plus I forgot rev actually has access to endure pain as war just with dwarf stance, plus shorter cd as well. With warrior its troublesome as u wanna bring banner and a signet, so u can’t just run that all the time.

Also, ur argument about war being needed for trin cos of banner etc. is not that strong at all. When u think about it, for pugs rev would more then make up for lack of disc banner as well, AP + perma fury is actually better for group dps. So literally 0 reason to bring war for this fight unless u have another rev or something, or if u need better cc.

Look at a site like the wiki (use the calc. base ingredients feature) to find out what the base cost is for the mats, assuming buy orders placed on all. Again, you can also calculate by hand but it takes a lot longer. Sites like gw2spidy are not reliable to calc. the crafting cost anymore cos their mats are outdated, be warned.

I would recommend just getting em from tp, it’s not overly cheaper to craft them urself. Besides for some mats, like Spiritwood planks, as I calc. a few days ago it’s about the same price to just buy from the tp, if not cheaper. With anything else you are saving about 1-2g per each if u craft them yourself.

Again let’s be serious, that’s hardly even amounts to more then 10g lost in worst case scenarios. Ideally u can try to craft if u wanna save a gold coin each day, otherwise who cares abt it

I want to see if there’s a reliable dps meter anywhere cos i always have good rotations espwcialy on sab. By contrast, ill see other warriors that wanna play it safe on flamewall phase, so they’re just moving with grp and just AA’ing the whole time.. and idk what’s the point of that. I mean our dps itself is miserable, but most of them even fail even that so they manage to bring dps even lower.

honestly id like to know 1 thing a warrior can do without might generation. you want to kick us out of the meta too?

If warrior brought literally 0 boons it would still be in every raid group because of Banners and Empower allies. The might is a nice bonus, but might is fairly easy to come by.

And yes I would want to kick the current warrior out of the meta and raids as a whole if I could. Its current class design is awful for raids and it needs badly to be reworked. It has mediocre personal damage but insane passive group buffs which makes it relatively unimportant whether you play well or not and forces it to be included in every fight. Furthermore two of those passive buffs are utility skills so you only have one actual utility slot, which is stupid as a general idea but also reduces the flexibility of the class.

Yes I agree nerf our banners or might stacking capabilities if u must, I don’t rly care about them tbh.. but at the same time, increase our dps to compete with a thief or ele, or at least to a lvl that is manageable. Tbh warrior is just a joke on its current meta for being able to apply self-boons that keep us alive and condi cleansing that often without relying on another class, like it’s literally broken now.

I was doing lvl 100 fractal and my warrior died for not having enough condi cleanse even with one utility skill with a 40s or so cd or it, and our grp wiped also. So I swap to rev, ez pz I’m literally never downed and I’m facetanking boss the entire time. What’s the secret behind it? Oh I know.. about 60% dmg reduction for most of time (prot + jalis hammers + infinite defense pot) and that’s not all, I also got two sources of quick condi cleanse, a heal skill and swap to staff set as needed. Again, just one point to illustrate how broken warrior is in comparison to other heavy classes atm

Yeah I dunno even what the nerf did, but suddenly it’s like easy mode on t4, especially dying once is very forgiving since entire group can just stop what they doing and go back to res, while one guy kites bloom away or something. It’s kinda lame but recently I notice with grps that at the end of it not one in team is even dead, get it on 1st try. In contrast, thaumanova and molten boss both which should be easier, I got grps wiping on the 1st attempt almost all the time. So dunno ill see if this change but tbh bloom phases too fast even in t4, it’s kinda noticeable also

Raid problem solutions.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

nagr.1593

Obviously I don’t think training mode for raids should have any rewards like he is saying. I would even be perfectly ok with no loot or rewards at all, and I know most players would be too long as it meant they got some practice on some mechanics for bosses without constantly having to search the lfg for the particular one they need. For instance, ive never had any training with being a slubbling in the sloth encounter, so yesterday I was asked to handle this since I knew the general principle. I messed up 1st time cos I ran outta time in slub form, but handled it fine after. This messup could’ve easily been avoided had I some form of reliable hands-on experience with it, but it’s difficult to ever train for it without being in a group setting. Therefore practice on every boss encounter when solo, would be something i would be keen on

Again, OP had right idea about fully completing training mode awarding some sort of tangible proof as doing so, such as a title that other exp groups could ask for. This would be helpful in bridging the gap between non-exp and exp, so that those ppl can actually join real runs for those bosses and feel confident abt themselves without wiping their group or smthing

Snip – Easy Mode with access to all rewards>

Neat. At least you were up-front with what you really want, gotcha. I can totally see your enthusiasm for improving the Raiding Experience by providing a solution that would bury it forever. You are doing us proud.

So these are my idea’s. As a side note I will say I don’t care either way whether you like my idea’s or not. As this isn’t really my problem but a lot of people are unhappy with raid’s and their current pug group’s so I’m doing it for them really.

And I like this to, you took enough of your time to type this all up, and pointed out to the crowd and said ‘Well it’s more for those guys, I don’t care, and you shouldn’t bother responding because it ain’t my problem’.

If it isn’t your problem, you wouldn’t have made a post like this in the first place. By far one of the worst posts I have ever read.

2/10, at least stand by your threads next time.

Now hold on don’t be too quick to judge.. maybe he has a point, but he ended it on the wrong foot. A slight misstep can be forgiven every now and then, but in the broader sense when multiple ppl already are voicing their opinions for a training mode in raids on these forums, that’s usually a sign that they are speaking not only for themselves but for some part of the player base, especially a large portion of casuals or ppl who either don’t have the skill to or are unwilling to get their feet wet with raid content.

For instance, a guildie of mine was complaining abt how frustrating it is to join more than 10 exp groups for VG (as he attested) and still not manage to get the kill. He blamed it on either lack of coordination, or ppl in his groups always not knowing what to do and getting each other wiped. This guild is not for training either btw.. it might not be a pro raiding guild, but it is a raiding guild. As well, that’s not to mention those ppl who might be more interested in other content perhaps even outside of PvE, but are unable to unlock the mastery tracks for raids bc they just don’t raid and maybe never will. They shouldn’t have to be forced to buy a w1 run or even a single boss kill for 150g, it’s just not fair.

Somehow the OP managed to come out with a proposed solution that is actually very closely aligned to what I was thinking, only I never explicitly said anything abt it before. The very fact that ppl have been proposing similar solutions (despite most of them getting dismissed or not taken seriously), means that some ppl are tired of raids being exclusive content only for elite players who have long been part of elite raiding guilds.

The way I had thought about it would be like a solo story instance, where u don’t have to worry abt grouping up at all. Therefore you can go leisurely at your own pace, but of course the content will still be as unforgiving despite being scaled down to solo clear. The reasoning behind this is, even unforgiving dungeons such as arah don’t have a training mode for their explorable path per say, however you are still allowed to enter instance on your own and solo 5man content despite it taking many grueling hours. So the solo ‘training’ mode should be just as unforgiving, and just as punishing. As to the unavoidable question of how key mechanics that required multiple ppl to handle would be handled.. I propose maybe a team of 4 npcs to assist u in every fight, maybe from your personal story or something. At the start of every encounter, u could get a choice similar to choosing your path in a dungeon, only it would ask whether u prefer to melee or stay ranged the whole time.

Let’s use fight at VG as an example here. If the former, npcs could handle other things for u like always getting to the grn circles on time, allowing u to focus on fighting the boss whole time. In split phase, they would each go to one boss and basically distract them for a while, and let u deal with all 4 and perhaps end up doing the condi guardians together. For the latter choice, one npc can tank boss and move him around, while u and the rest of npcs have to always run to grn circles. The only problem I see with this is just about npcs themselves, too many bugs when u involve their redundancies and scripted behavior, as dungeons themselves have so many broken npcs atm

An issue: raids and their accesibility

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

In dungeons this was difficult to learn and put into practice when a lot is happening at once. It was very easy to attempt the dungeon many times
And not know how to improve. You can get a guide for the path, but you cannot get a guide to learn to dodge/mitigate a bunch of stuff at the same time. At least I never found such a guide. That is why I emphasized that it can ‘seem’ random, and therefore frustrating and unintuitive. I have never done a raid myself to know how they compare. Of course I know it is possible to confidently mitigate damage in dungeons. I saw plenty of players do it. But I would not call it intuitive, easy to learn through practice, or accessible. And part of this is just baked in to the mechanics of the game, like I’m talking about. Dodge is all. I don’t know if they can make this style of play more intuitive and accessible, but I think they should.

I don’t know why your having so much trouble with this bro. Dungeons are mostly easy mode by now and if you’re frustrated with the req of ‘dodge being all’, there are two options u can choose: u can either go through the tutorial for beginners on how to dodge (which I don’t get the point of tbh), or you can play a heavy class that’s more forgiving as well as having more easy access to block and invuln, which will defeat ur argument of ‘dodge being all’. Dodge is afaik a mechanic that when this game was still in its early days a mechanic exclusive to this game, I’m not sure that u could even dodge in games like WoW from what I remember. If you’re getting frustrated over it, realise that it’s a core mechanic of this game that’s likely not ever going to change. Again, there’s tutorials for this sort of stuff even.

You have yet to elaborate further and give some examples of what exactly you’re finding random in dungeons (that are most times scripted and definitely not random), or at least give the name of the path or dungeon ur having so much trouble with, like CoF path 1 which is so easy and intuitive that it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.

Again, u cannot get a guide that can tell you when to dodge/mitigate dmg at the right time. That’s the entire point of learning to practice and get better. If you had a message on the screen pop up ‘Dodge!’ at the exact time u were supposed to dodge, it would defeat the purpose of that mechanic as well as making the game lackluster and not enjoyable anymore. If you’re having problems learning when to dodge in dungeons then sadly your going to have a tougher time with raids as they are now.

guis can we pls focus on my real issue here, I got maybe a half an answer on a simple ‘Whats up with this..?’ question that ppl unanimously decide to change topic to for some reason. Like it seems y’all are waffling and talking in circles when I’d appreciate a straight answer pls, it’s a simple thing I’m asking too

To recap, u don’t have to read up but what I’m asking for assistance with:

  • confirmation abt traits again. Is one significantly better than the other, than I absolutely would have to change to Dom in pugs? My reasoning is that Illusions seems like it would better help my survivability, shatter traits and all
  • Rotations to use at all times, and rotations to use in a pinch when ur worried about surviving as tank or not getting downed. Again, not sure that metabattle is that accurate anymore
  • I will post my build info later if needed, but right now it’s all comm trinkets, one asc comm backpiece and assassins armor with water runes. I’m at ~1620 toughness with food using this setup

I joined for vg training a few days ago to learn how to tank.. not sure if was my group or not like not getting much heals, but I downed a lot that whole fight too. I’d like to avoid this if possible in future cases. I was kinda getting used to my build as well and I didn’t use any dodges most of the time, perhaps I can fix this

I watched vids of how to do it beforehand too, thot I was prepared but man even for a training run that was hard. that guy hits rly hard, plus those circles tele me out if I mistime a dodge and the boss gets displaced. Any tips on surviving on this boss or even in similar cases?

Neither I nor anyone else who read your post thought you were trolling especially considering your post history where you brag about not knowing other mechanics.

I even implied in the same post i was trolling right after i said that.. cmon man try to read btween the lines like every1 even noobs know that escort is easy, i wasn’t rly being serious wen i said that

i mean ill be honest i been a fan of ur videos where u explain about whats meta and stuff, i was even runnin the wrong build for fractals for a long time until i realized how important stuns are since they added defiance bar and stuff (i took a break for few months).

and its not that i don’t know mechanics most of the time its just that pugs frustrate me, if u ever pugged without any LI being required u would know what i mean. I was even with pug for vg with Brazil (yes everyone knows who he is) but we still wiped a couple times and he yes he stayed in grp, but he was powerless to do anything to change the outcome and i know how that feels better than most here do.

I mean yesterday i joined an exp pug for sab, despite voice chat we wiped a couple times and they scapegoated me and kicked me bc someone asked if big bombs were the problem for wipes, when i knew for a fact they were not (it was my responsibility and i took it srsly). So i don’t whine about that, that group let me try but tbh they were just awful, most of them.

So today i figured i’ll be completely dishonest about my li and joined a sab group that asked for 100+ LI. guess what we got it after 2nd try no big deal, and i got green bomb THREE times that entire fight and i threw it all successfully on 1st try despite us not using voice chat at all (I’m not even lying here). the 1st try was bc someone got kicked mid-fight for dying when they were not supposed to, so we decide to /gg and start over. The second run was flawless, no one had any problem with me. I was responsible for big bombs and grn bombs were unavoidable as well, i did my job. the entire thing took about 15min, and that’s my point like 8/10 times it doest matter whether u know the mechanics or not, its ur group and whether they are able to perform as u would expect or like them to.

I don’t like being dishonest either, don’t think that it makes me feel better abt myself either. My entire point is that i shouldn’t be forced into this and then feeling guilty over doing so, and if there was a better and more honest option that resulted in the same outcome then yeah i would not hesitate to take it

Also, your difficulty ratings are hilarious. The easiest raids (escort, trio) are like dungeons. The medium tier (vg, gor, sab, sloth, kc) are like arah. The hard tier (matt, xera) are a bit harder.

These difficulty ratings don’t make any sense, I mean like in escort i sometimes try to headbutt some guy and end up insta-dying to a bomb that appears underneath my feet, and entire raid grp has to finish the rest of it without me. I’m basically dead at the start and I’ve accomplished nothing, but been carried through the easiest raid so how humiliating is that

Ok I don’t wanna seem like I’m trolling so ill move on here. Suppose in arah u are willing to spend countless hours practicing to solo it, like 20+ hours until ur able to and then lifes good. This same thing doesn’t apply to raids bc it’s meaningless here

most notably,

  • you can’t solo practice any raid encounter, period. I’m don’t even know that u can duo them either
  • all boss are scaled to 10man effort by default, which when even 5man content was soloable once, 10man is not duoable or at least scaled down to 5man content and thus soloable
  • most boss have mechanics that are impossible to ignore, and insurmountable when solo, ex. green circles at vg, gors split phase, sab whole encounter, etc.

So it leave you feeling that group skill and exp is 100x more important than ur own skill and exp, which in pugs is something u have no control over (aside from insane reqs like tons of LI and gear check, which both of which can be faked rather easily imo). In pugs you have no control over what build other players are running or even they know how to play their class at all, thus multiple wipes. So you post for exp, doubtful that ppl who join are exp. If after multiple wipes group is on edge and looking for someone to scapegoat, one messup despite its severity of importance will cause all blame to fall on u. In end, u can try find multiple exp groups for a boss on lfg but doesn’t mean u get anywhere. It’s not comparable to something like arah, where less emphasis on group and more on ur own skill

So how it’s possible to shine in raids for ur own skill or something, unless u have the best or most pro guild or u have friends in all the right places? If you don’t have pro players as friends or guildies then ur basically a no-one and back at square one yeah

Ok I think I got my mes geared now, exotic comm trinkets and full ascended for rest of them, my toughness is at 1560 or so with food, I’m just wondering abt the recent change to mes that cause you to slot diff skills like for the elite.

Basically my 1st question was in regards to traits. Was there a reason to use Domination instead of illusions or whatever? I haven’t looked at the traitlines that closely so I might be missing something obvious

I’m more concerned with rotations tho, if I go to a site like metabattle it still doesn’t seem to be updated to reflect the new changes since patch. I get that I should probably be swapping weps as often as possible, using all my wells off cd and keep shattering my illusions when I can. I’m having trouble with the specifics though, things like is it worth it to bother using continuum split or whatever without slotting time warp? If so how does this figure into the rotations, as well as basic questions like how can I cast 3 phantasms in one set (sword/x) so quickly before I swap to shield as I need to do for rotations?

Sorry for asking so many questions or if many of them seem obvious.. I haven’t played my mes in many months but I’m looking to try it out again

Suggestion: How to make Spears work

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nagr.1593

Ok so imagine this: after using sword leap to bridge a chasm, you end up with hundreds of small mobs shooting ranged barbs at u. You switch stances and go into defensive bunker mode similar to shield stance, with ur offhand stave/javelin swinging wildly in circular motion that reflects the missiles coming at u, thus getting rid of those mobs by just activating a single skill once. Also can imagine a charged shot similar to rifle f1 or whatever that throws the spear an impossibly far distance and deals huge damage as well as giving tons of bleed stacks and stunning the target. If your having a hard time visualising this there’s this epic Ancient Greece movie where Achilles throws his spear and it sales for a mile or so before punching through someone’s back and killing them instantly. Nuff said

No really though I’d like to see some kind of this sharp pointy object being wielded by warriors, who cares if it takes them months to conceptualize it. I just want an offhand skill that actually does something diff than just block attacks, even if it’s an unexpected reflect skill and let’s face it even whirling axe as we have it looks like it could be capable of reflects, but it’s not and thus why carry axe offhand over others

I was saying to have a look at any of them but I have a predilection towards the heavy armor set myself, tho it’s a bit too spiky for my taste if y’know what I mean, that’s why I like to mix and match armor pieces too. Basically just try to imagine those with backpiece fluffy wings.. and viola!

Spear should be usable on land

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

nagr.1593

Oh my gawd.. please make skill 5 on spear offhand for war be like an animation where you spin it around and it reflects attacks.. I’m just tired so long of warrior being sidelined and left out of so many boons and other advantages other classes seem to take for granted without even realising it. Even necros have their lich form and extra bar and minions that follow them around.. whereas what does warrior have that’s still cool and hasn’t grown out of style by now. Adding some mechanics to a class that’s been deprived of them for so long, like reflects even if it’s on a sole wep skill, would go so far towards breathing new life into a dead and stale class that every1 sadly finds boring and predictable by now

I agree with the arguments made in this thread tho.. all valid points. Realism and GW2 are two things that just don’t clash, and I for one am grateful for that. This game has so much more creative energy than any traditional mmo featuring realistic or medieval swordplay. It’s part of the reason why I feel like this game resonates with me and has such a lasting impression as it does.. things like GS whirl/evade and sword leap with war are of course not possible, but it’s like a captivating art form that makes you think and in some ways even transcends what ppl are capable of achieving in gymnastics like for maybe the olympics to use one example or perhaps simply to show that they can pull it off and wow the crowd by performing some extraordinary feat as they sometimes do

Whaaat if there’s an option to auto-trash stuff u won’t need like minor runes, then I vote there should be a similar option to get rid of unnecessary mats u don’t need either

e.g. bloodstone dust, dragonite ore, similar useless mats that sell for coppers on tp like mithril ore and those milling stones (dunno what they called), and course collection items for collections you don’t plan on unlocking anytime soon – OMG!

Did you know that 99% of collection items sitting in ur bag are ones u can safely destroy without it affecting ur progress in any way? I’m the sort of person who hoards stuff even when they feel they don’t need it in the perceivable future.. i still have 3 uncompleted journals from BF sitting in my inv after months! Pls get rid of them for me

I will be the happiest person in the world if they actually add something like this – nothing frustrates me more often than being told I’m outta bag space!

1. Playing the tp / currencies -> gold. Sometimes they go hand in hand too. Just keep a tab on anything you have a bountiful supply of in your wallet. Most things you find you have a surplus with seemingly no sink for them, there will 9/10 times be an undiscovered sink for them sitting there, waiting for you to chance upon them. For fear of repeating myself (don’t know the exact terminology in this case, forgive my english lol – this was initially a 2nd language for me), I made a post awhile ago about the conversion ratio as it pertains to rare fractal drops, i.e. mist shards in this case. On a related front, not wanting to repeat myself here again but – laurels, tokens, globs of dark matter, spirit shards, mystic coins, karma – most anything you have saved up from years ago, it’s possible to turn a surplus into dearth pretty quickly and efficiently given the know-how.

I find the best conv. rate for dungeon tokens to be 3.6g/100 tokens, though there’s a couple of maybe’s and what-if’s attached to that. Given that I had about 15k tokens saved up though, all in all not a bad day. Again sometimes it’s better to keep an eye on your trigger finger as I myself was apt to disregard such advice in my earlier days – impulsive buyouts of exotic GS from vendors, then throwing them into the forge every month. Granted I did end up with Dusk in the end, though ofc this way’s highly unreliable.

Back to the issue at hand, that I raised at the beginning as a viable option perhaps not in the long-term, but just as a sort of entitled reward for veteran players who could be returning after a long break and still struggling to sort through and figure things out and might be dealing with the overload of new content in a manageable way. Let’s be serious here, I have on more than one occasion a priori brought up a point of concern regarding remaining gold-farming methods for those without access to HoT, and as a result those who felt left behind and treated as stragglers by this point. The prospects of legitimate and extant gold-farming techniques for even those with HoT looks kinda bleak especially with the ever-looming possibility of AB chest farm being rendered obsolete, which honestly sometimes feels is like a patch or a two away. So why would I suggest something like this, that would raise a few eyebrows? I can easily make more than 100g in a day, just from ~2 hours invested towards such a goal.. that’s why. Again, just a helpful suggestion but you might wanna check up on the current market prices and fluctuations before you start diving headfirst into anything. Know thine surroundings and all.. rite?

2. Any and all! Some people will try to divert you into one path that kind of pigeonholes you into playing one particular build or satisfying one important role that’s highly desirable atm, but this would do nothing but constrict class diversity when we want to expand upon it! How often is someone asked to leave when u see 3+ warriors in group.. not to mention those unfathomable 5 necro groups for high lvl fractals. You see where I’m going with this yes

3. Hot. HoT happened. Just the perfect opportunity for me to jump in and say something random, like ‘Eureka!’

4. High lvl fotm and daily prayers to the RNG god of ur choice

5. You don’t need help finding guilds in a game titled Guilds War 2.. lol. Guilds will find you (even when u don’t want them to)!

(skip 6.. dunno this one)

7. You make a good point bc recently it’s been all like ‘DPS Wars 2’. If you dunno what I mean then u will find out in time lol

Best Leveling for Glider

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

So here’s the thing abt AB.. I’ve suggested it as huge exp farm before and ppl have shot me down saying I’m wrong. They saying that DS is better since its more of a coordinated chain of events that take place logically one after another. It’s also the longest meta chain afaik, therefore exp gain in long term would ostensibly be better. That’s one reason I wouldn’t advise u to farm BF. Buying 10-30% exp from the vendors there is useless, esp seeing as how boosters give a lot more. Rams reward together with guild exp boost gives like 20%, and that’s only a few silver and can last 2hrs at least. That’s not to mention how meta chains in BF are generally not worth it, as they’re too scarce and spread out. Try it for yourself to see

So what’s logic behind ppl suggesting AB. Not something u might see reasoning behind immediately, as it’s a hotspot for a completely different reason. It’s not good for sustained exp, ill admit as much. But for short bursts u get a ton of exp when doing essentially nothing, i.e. participation close to 0% or in single digits any way. Added to that, afaik exp boosters do scale the end reward exp received. So imagine like 250% times base reward, which is generally higher for meta event. Add this to the fact that you won’t even run any risk of triggering event/map dr like u might in DS for instance – exp will be stable entire time. Therefore, searching for a timer to be aware of when meta in AB start, joining a while before pre event (prep time) ends, will get u into a decent group that lets u transfer between maps. Join a map that has more ppl, clear tarir and then swap maps to another one not yet completed. You can repeat about 2-3 times which is not too bad when u think abt how short the time actually is. Alternatively, u can try something I haven’t before like getting one or two hits in the meta in one map so u get participation, then swapping between as maps as u can and tagging some mobs or whatever. I haven’t tested this out as I’m prty sure this not how it works.. but I’d like to see what the actual outcome is

So again with DS.. only region imo where it’s easy to get all the achievs, esp good for getting MPs when u will need em later. DS is not only good for the tons of exp, since its just like zerg mode exp train whole time. From the pods there, u can also gather ascended mats that are only specific to other new maps. Not only that but crystalline ore which is useful for so many things aside from crafting, can only be farmed in DS. Therefore think of it as killing two birds with one stone in the long run

The hardest achievements

That and migraine if you want to solo the achievement.

ye I think soloing for that achiev is not only difficult some classes but so very time consuming.. cos their health is scaled to 5man grp or something. I tried it for like 5min not something I consider worth my time lol

On plus side easily duoable, provided ur both decently geared and know the ins and outs of ur class. I just mostly duoed for this achiev.. first and last boss anyways majority of fight we duo, the mid one our mes basically carry us single handed with his perma reflect so oh wow but yeah that was even more doable than the rest lol. All in all not that hard at all.. just gotta be aware of new mechanics which.. easier said than done. Also find it amusing when I’m joining for normal mode in group bc apparently one of them can’t solo the mordremoth fight despite numerous attempts.. I always find that funny lol

(I think the reason why disorganized groups fail so many easy boss mechanics in raids lies somewhere there)

hmm but if I actually have to contribute smthing.. I guess I’d go with the achiev to unlock the fatebreaker title. That is like on par with that twice told legend one lol

PS warrior or rev in pugs?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Fractals with social awkwardness instability are annoying if there’s another party member in melee. PS warrior is no good for ranged, you have to go Rifle because you lack the condi damage for LB being effective. there are several fight where melee is a no-no.

So I would advice to go PS but start thinking to build yourself a burnzerker for those t4 FotM. Good thing is that PS warrior has always a spot (actually 2) on raids

Ok have a few problems with this post.. lol. First off, as someone who got HoT a month or two ago and started literally from scratch to farm enough gold and other time-gated mats to craft the new Eureka, I think I am in position to offer simpler (more newcomer-friendly) advice.

Yea I agree social awkwardness is a challenge at first but so is almost every other instability (got a necro the other day who complain in group chat that the rabbit came and one shot him). Warrior is not meant for ranged it’s true, but imo there’s nothing that’s just not straight up meleeable, tho chaos fractal boss kinda skirts the line cos it’s imba towards heavy preference to ranged builds. So that aside, imo any other boss in t4 is meleeable – even bloomhunger yes even tho it might take u a while to think abt it and figure out how exactly. It helps that I got infinite defensive pots only just recently so I don’t get downed half as much I used to (prob also has to do with fact that I’m more familiar with my build than before). So melee even at t4 always a good option, tho be warned it’s usually a tough learning curve as u can’t just expect to stand still and facetank everything (I used to think like that too).

So mayb unrelated example, I just basically duoed most of the last HoT story in extreme mode, it was very fun and not at all as challenging as u might think. The other guy was probably the best complementary class for warrior atm.. boonshare mes with high toughness and tons of quickness, alacrity, and boon reflect/copy is like the best complement to this, I swear. I think mes/warrior has always had good synergy even in the cof farm days but it especially true with the elite specs now. Anyway, backtracking to what I mean by mostly duoing – this was a 5man group ofc. But even in the first fight with Eir, after multiple wipes or so and suddenly entire group was out of picture except for us two, and boss was at 65% health or so. So yeah it was really nice that we duoed not only as fast as we did but how easy and efficient it was. Right before we cc to stun Eir, I picked up banner to give us fury (wasn’t taking utility for this either). Thus armed with quickness, alacrity, full might stacks, fury, banner and food bonus, we were able to burst way past 50% in one burn which was way more than we got even with full group. Similar situation arose at mordremoth when everyone else failed the 2nd forced flight phase, as they weren’t aware of short duration (I wasn’t either). It felt really good to be able to duo a boss like that, certainly buffed in some ways to make more challenging but we could both of us still maintain melee entire time. So yeah why do I list this as example.. I dunno. Maybe just that, if you’re starting a fight then yeah go with bow or something since I used to do in open world, but I don’t need to anymore now that I figure out how easy they are. Similar thing applies even to t4 fotm any fight is technically melee-able, tho sometimes not best to do so.. especially when it’s skewed so unfairly towards ranged users (* cough cough chaos fractal).

So yeah in regards to burnzerker build.. I would recommend tabling that till endgame. Certainly something to work towards in the meantime, but nothing says u have to go for that build first. In fact if you’re like me then you will take more than a month just to farm all the ascended vipers trinkets that u need. So yeah why not go full melee with GS face-smash “angry hulk” build. It’s much easier to play and it takes u much less time to gear up for this build.

PS in regards to how Rev has effectively been handicapped now for raids.. yeah it’s a real problem and almost everyone is complaining abt it and it’s to the point that it’s an empty and generally useless statement to say that you can swap to Rev for raids, then yeah I think anet will fix this soon in an upcoming patch if for no other reason than they are so obsessed over balance and what’s meta – i.e. if all other classes except Rev are welcomed in raid groups and have an important role to play, then yeah it’s something that’s gonna cause others so much grief that they feel they have to abandon that class entirely and switch to another one.

So I say if u wanna level a Rev go for it. They are also probably aware they nerfed Rev much harder than other classes so they will prob try to compensate for this with next patch, at least I can hope as such.

Is this a sociable game?

in Players Helping Players

nagr.1593

Like again it’s my personal experience, but from years ago I remember there was maybe one person I connected to in some way and that was in PvP, where we were kinda forced into grouping up for arranged teams so we kind of got to know one another bc of that. Then as months passed, yeah I was inactive for almost a year but doesn’t change what happened, we kinda grew apart and estranged from one another especially since I gravitated more to pve with exclusion of all else, whereas he was still more focused on pvp which I was unwilling to return to. So even now I’m at the point where I can maybe say for certain that I have no close friends in-game, and yeah like I’ve achieved a lot and have like 7 legendaries which is not too bad considering I wasted a lot of my gold in other unrelated endeavors, but i mean end of the day it’s just something you’re expected to keep to yourself, no one rly cares about each other and their troubles and it’s just a lonely world, even though it seems like there’s a vast open space and like a near limitless area to explore, it feels kind of constricted and close-monded in that regard to the point it actually limits what you would say is your in-game experience as it pertains to you

tl;dr: not a really sociable game for a solo player experience imo, you can get away with almost anything without social interaction being the be all or end all. It’s kind of makes you feel hopeless and lost in such circumstances, and truth is if you’re not actively a part of a guild like chatting or talking all the time or say you’re not using voice chat and forming relationships with other players you come in contact with, then yeah you will kind of get the sense this game does seem to promote anti-social behavior to a sole newcomer with no previous connections

PS sorry for double post, didn’t mean it to be overly long but honestly sometimes this 5k char limit really frustrates me at times

Is this a sociable game?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Honestly I think this is a point of concern of mine that I’ve noticed over time, not that it has any kind of obvious solution either as it just seems to be more of an inherent flaw in the core game design. I’ve been playing this game for years since a year or so after launch, but even from those early days what I can tell you is that the social aspect has been kind of lacking, in that there’s not anything you’re immediately exposed to or forced to deal with, like in-your-face kind of social interactions where core mechanics might facilitate and in fact necessitate such social behavior for players to successfully deal with in order to progress to the next stage, whatever that may be.

So what I mean is, very little teamwork aspect of this game actually requires you to interact socially with other people, yeah you might have to explain some mechanics to other players occasionally, but if they have some basic understanding or some sort of intuition - either an instinctive knee-jerk reaction or a visceral, yeah-this-seems-right kind of reasoning, or a learned response sort that you might acquire from reading guides posted online or through some similar means of garnering secondhand advice and tips - then yeah, in those circumstances it stands to reason that intuition alone should allow them to fumble through and manage it, rather than relying on social advise from another player through ts or in-game chat, which does help but only in certain content that requires near-flawless coordination in order to surpass it (namely raids, as it may be the most obvious example that stands out here). Yeah it might seem rude to not introduce yourself before joining a group, or you might need to comment on something or respond to something directed at you, but apart from that nothing is really forced upon you to forge any kind of lasting relationships with others. You can play most or all of this content solo, by that I mean it doesn’t seem to matter whether you have any friends or people that you’re acquainted with in-game since this game seems to promote anti-social behavior imo, unless you’ve spend some effort in finding a good guild that’s always supportive of you and always active and sociable most of the time, then yeah in such cases there’s a feeling of familiarity and belonging that you might find is what you’re looking for.

But imo, and just keep in mind this is my personal experience, the game for the most part seems to promote anti-social behavior, across mostly all game modes. I mean I’ve tried both pvp and wvw for a few months or so, for me what I found that it boils down to is either mindless zerg play, random team matchups in pvp where no one said a single word to each other or to the opposing team, and the like. Ive spent majority of my time in-game in pve and open-world though, even from the early days of 5man dungeon groups, it seemed kind of lackluster and kind of muted on the social front. When there used to be something of a popular spot like cof p1 mindless farming, then yeah it didn’t matter if you never said a word to each other in general chat or whether you were all silent and never spoke a single word in chat unless it was to link your gear when asked for or something else that was expected of you. All in all, dungeons were a kind of a letdown in their lack of social interaction except for build/skill advice, or when needing to explain some mechanics specific to each encounter. You didn’t join a pug group to hang out. You all joined to complete a set task before you that you all needed, and upon realization of the shared task you would all disband group and forget each other and go your separate ways.. like there was little if ever need to form bonds or relationships with other players that you felt comfortable around, there was just not there and it’s something I always feel like it’s something that’s missing in core game experience.

For open world, to give another example map completion feels like a chore and honestly it’s something you feel more at ease soloing than with another player that you don’t know. Even on the new content introduced with the release of HoT, yeah you might notice dome events or situations that require group or concentrated effort (not something you’re expected to solo) that requires you to cooperate and work together with a random player who shares your same goal, but I mean honestly you don’t even need to group up or even say a single word to each other - just mash a few buttons and focus on boss, maybe res each other if downed, then boom once you’ve succeeded then just go your separate ways and never look back at all.

Returning (again) - what to play?

in Players Helping Players

nagr.1593

Ah they u might wanna try guardian or warrior. Both capable of stacking perma swiftness without traits iirc, though guardian plays more similar to revenant honestly, in that similar defensive maneuvers as well as similar boons applied on self. I tried guardian for a while but sadly it wasn’t for me. In most people’s opinion, warrior is too boring to play, as they are of the opinion it’s just faceroll one key and win. It’s actually more complicated then that, then again most classes have rotations that involve a set number of skills, as opposed to just one. Imo most ppl are of the opinion that warrior had simple roles in most groups, and mostly that’s true. But again, you want to be able to solo some champs esp in the new maps, then go with heavy class. I actually tried to solo one on rev when I was lvling him and failed – but that same encounter was easier to do on war, for example.

In regards to your other specs, guardian throughout evolution and progression of meta has generally had higher sustained dps than war. It seems a little bit unfair, but what can you do. Guardian as well excels at tagging multiple mobs easier, through use of staff. There used to be a funny and somewhat stereotypical paradigm of a staff guardian, not sure if it’s still on use but it was something laughable when u saw a pug guardian running a staff build, as they were thought to generally be terribad and unskilled players. As long as you’re only using it for aoe mob tagging though it shouldn’t be an issue. There something else that wasn’t mentioned, but yes warrior is technically faster for open world exploration/completion. This is bc of mobility they have sufficient amount of, whereas guard seems rather lacking on that front.

As well another thing to note is that revenant, to me honestly plays like a hybrid between thief/elementalist/guardian. Therefore, you can test out those diff classes to see where the similarities lie. Most ppl generally regard ele as the squishest class, so it might not be for you.

An issue: raids and their accesibility

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

See, the fact that players like this exist, and believe that they are justified in their behavior, is why ANet needs to create easier versions of the content, where wipes are less likely to occur, and therefore there would be less justification to exclude anyone. Trying to keep out noobs because they might cause the group to wipe a dozen times or more before they can complete the boss is somewhat reasonable, but trying to keep out noobs because it might mean the fight takes 12 minutes to complete instead of 10 would just be pointlessly rude.

This could not be more wrong, unfortunately. Most ppl who are of the mindset that you would label as ‘rude’, especially in pugs, would most likely not care not a single shred for u except that u are able to handle everything as asked without sabotaging or interfering with the group’s effort. According to a most highly regarded player whom I fully trust, a most intriguing example brought forth by the astute Absurdo observes that group time is invaluable as it differs greatly from actual time (as the world perceives it), and it increases linearly with the number of people involved in or directly affected by such circumstances as a result.

Therefore, if we accept this theorem and apply it to the situation mentioned, it would not have been 2mins lost as you or I would observe, but in fact 20min wasted given that we are dealing with raid content. Again, it’s important to keep this mind as perception of time passing becomes noticeably skewed when dealing with raid groups, regardless of the difficulty of the fight or the mechanics involved but bearing in mind that it’s simply even more rude to waste 9 people’s time, therefore it’s again the question of the lesser evils that arises when dealing with a similar situation as u introduced.

I’m pretty sure this guy is trolling lol

Ah the classic “someone said something I disagree with so he’s a troll”. Nice post, thanks for contributing.

I call you a troll cos u are in fact trolling. Saying ‘warrior is easy so faceroll even a noob can play it, anet loves warriors only’ is considered a troll post to me, esp when you’ve made that comment twice (that I know of) on profession related questions. I highly doubt ur main is even a warrior.. therefore I view it as a passive-aggressive way of calling attention to the class u perceive as imba or unbalanced. Tell me I’m wrong and that u do main warrior
