Since I value you so much as a key user in this sub forum, I took the effort and went into EG’s website, just to find this highlited line in their recruitment form:
Being interested in using voice chat REGULARLY is essential to being in our community.

We can both agree that line is deliberately vague, and thus ambiguous to most. Being interested in ‘using voice chat’ ? Last I checked clients like ts and discord could laudably be considered as voice chat platforms. So simply making ‘use’ of such clients on a regular basis by listening to others and following instructions in-game could be construed as one interpretation of it. at least, that was my take.

I’m not from NA, but afaik, EG has some Hardcore groups, which means they will obviously have high requirements. that “mock” interview you referred to is pretty standard for guilds of that kind, and being able to communicate is the key difference between PuG runs and high-end guild runs.
So the only one to blame is yourself here.

What am I to blame for – that I don’t want to use my voice and speak to complete strangers in a virtual game bc I want to maintain some semblance of anonymity at the least? Well sure I guess I am to blame for that. Not expecting to find a semi-hardcore guild that doesn’t require all its members to jump thru so many deliberately convoluted hoops. Maybe they except u to wear a riduculous tin hat and be able to lead grps as well. I dunno bro

I will say I have pugged with guys from EG and some of them are just awful players who don’t even respond in chat. They’re not leading anything or even saying anything in voice chat. They have their mics turned off just like me, only they tend to play waay worse at times. So dunno what’s up with this guild and how they let those guys join. nor do I really care anymore *sighs

@nagr, arah? hard work? 1 to 2 hours solo? holy kitten you must have been bad.
how many times did you wipe? xD

btw. i am not buying that you soloed arah. people who solo arah where usually at least that good that they could go into raids rather quick.
so stop lying about stuff you have no idea about.

welll i managed to dredge this up from years ago.. for what it’s worth. Know it doesn’t mean much at all now, being as outdated as is atm. But mayb next time, u can stop accusing me of stuff when you clearly have no idea about.

Well yes ideal time was less than an hr but I seen others (most times even me) used to complain of avg times more than an hour. That’s not to even mention how long selling 4 spots took even in heyday of arah (and perhaps why prices also plummeted). On a good day it would still take at least half hour for slot to fill. For paths like p1 u still had to waste comparable amt of time getting help at tar boss, since it wasn’t soloable. So yes whole thing could easily end up taking 1-2 hrs, I mean accounting for those multiple wipes when u were having a bad day or even otherwise.

But really.. thanks for ur vote of confidence, do appreciate it

What is a "Tank"

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

@Tarasicodissa But it seems like this toughness preferred boss target system is dependent on the specific boss of the encounter, correct?

I mean the design for raids is in such a way that they try to shake it up so not all encounters are as static that you could plausibly write them off as ‘tankable’.. I think their approach is pretty good imo. Take a look at the encounters that don’t req any tank at all, and see if u can figure out why/how that is the case (two examples listed below).

Sabatha- obvious. if sab and all mini bosses aggroed permanently on one player, whole grp could stack on opposite side and just ‘cheese’ the encounter in this way.

Slothasor - If there were a tank, agreeably it would be easier. But it would also be boring and a snoozefest and could arguably be ‘cheesed’ to some extent as mentioned. They did a clever thing by including a fixation mechanic so that each player (given enough attempts or a chance at RNG) can be a tank for this boss momentarily and hold aggro albeit for a short duration.

Also @Tarasicodissa, Indeed particularly since my experience as a more traditional tank in WoW for example seems to have no benefit in gw2. This question comes from a very meandering path of questions that goes something like:
What do I use my 80 boost on?
Mesmer
Why?
They are annoying to level
OK, what can a Mesmer do?
Everyone likes Chronotanks
Oh? I thought there were no tanks in gw2…
Well there aren’t…
Oh, um…

So…
When the encounter does not rely upon a more classic aggro management related, positioning based use of the tank (as it usually doesn’t) it is just that the “tank” is the epicenter of a giant clump of AOEs that are generally buffing the raid (a raid being the only place you would find a “tank” in gw2).

And the classes chosen for this role are those that have generally not great dps because their concentration on raid buffing does not decrease raid damage because their dps contribution was not significant in the first place.

But… the “tank” must be survivable enough to be in the middle of the action… making certain professions/specializations better suited for this role because they are the proper combination of MoreUtilityThanDPS and Survivability.

I think you’re missing the point. Chrono is/has been in a unique position for a while in that their class-specific boons are simply one of the best dps boosts for groups, second only to perhaps war banners. Their support is that good, that u can really overlook the fact of their mediocre dps and make them a staple for any grp in raids. As to if they make the best tanks? No, probably not. Guard or a full defense-traited necro for instance would prob make a better ‘tank’ bc they can ignore most hits and wouldn’t have to even bother dodging. But think of it this way, for ideal team comp you must have like 1-2 chron anyway for their boons as mentioned above. Their boons (quickness/alac) are huge boost to team dps hence why there are chronos every group. So rather than replace anyone with defense-traited necro for example (who would u replace – an ele, and give up a massive chunk of group dps?) u can simply adapt to this and use the tools u alrdy have at ur disposal. So weakest link in the chain in this ideal comp is chrono, since their dps is next to worthless even in zerker gear. Solution? Well heck y not turn their awful dps into an asset rather than a crutch. Slap some toughness stat onto their gear, make them tank. So doesn’t matter that they aren’t the best tanks, u are alrdy killing two birds with one stone so y complain. They can tank well bc of their their class mechanics as well as their complimentary wep sets, but w/o their class-specific boons (that is, if it were removed entirely from the game) I highly doubt they would remain the go-to tank class otherwise.

To answer ur other question, yes there are guides to learn to tank the ‘tankable’ bosses. I made a post that lists which I consider to be easiest bosses to learn to tank.. if need more info then jus ask. But remember also, ‘chrono’ does not necessarily mean ‘chronotank’. As there are usually two chrono in ideal team comp (mirror comp) , it’s up to u which of u wants to be the tank for any given encounter. This can be achieved pretty simply in truth. Simply bring some zerker trinkets so u can easily swap out gear to lower ur toughness. Having access to legendary weps also helps bc u can just swap out stats without replacing them. Ez pz rite?

Also, here’s the link to that,

Raid without TS?

I am deaf.

here is how i got the majority of my boss kills.
(…)
after intial introduction if there was a voice chat listed i would contact the comander of the group via whisper and inform them of hearing situation.
"" I am Deaf so voice is tricky at best for me. I do know the fight and my role. if it becomes and issue i will gladly step out. ""

At this point it is all on you. You need to preform to an expectation that is greater than the average PuG. And be willing to Stand down or move on without question should the group feel it is not working.

I wish I could just say something like this to opt out of some other reqs, just gets stressful to me otherwise tbh. I guess maybe I could say something like I’m mute I can’t talk but only type, rather than saying the flat out truth which is no I don’t have a mic on me atm.. which is what ends up invariably happening. I can’t keep up with all these newfangled reqs these exp guilds keep throwing up nowadays.. it didn’t use to be this hard and imo I feel it’s main reason y I only managed to find one decent raid guild to join.

Finding an exp raid guild that’s not too stringent in its ts-centric reqs is like trying to find a training run for xera, like chasing after a unicorn almost. I applied for one with not-too-strict reqs once (or so I thot) for EG or somethin, got contacted for a mock interview or some such in-game. So I join, guy inmediately tells me to get on ts so we can hash it out. Have to confess I don’t have a mic on my comp tho, he says that’s a dealbreaker and we can’t continue. More then a bit surprised since this seems like a hidden req, not mentioned anywhere where I applied either. I mean dunno but it seems like bit of a double standard to me, I raided with some of those guys in their guild and most of em never use a mic either. But ye one thing I never ever used for however long I been raiding, is mic for w/e reason. I mean ill get on ts and listen but I’m not gonna be jumpin thru any more hoops thx… not if that’s gonna supersede everythin else and be a dealbreaker to the fact that I have exp with all boss kills and tanking on all boss except xera (cos no chance to ever get training exp). So dats y I don’t complain long as I got an exp pug-friendly raid guild when most ppl suggest that u have three or more of em. I dunno but those ppl are just the try-hards tbh. Y’know, those guys that ping a whole stack of LI and then follow that with ‘but I have s’more in bank too if u gimme a min’.. like wow dude get over urself (no one cares).

Harsh words coming from someone who states that he had his first Gorserval kill last week. Would love to see your words backed up with some evidence. Food for the thought.

I’ve literally no idea what ur goin on about, seems to me liek ur literally pulling words out of ur kitten . I got my 1st gors kill months ago now.. thx. as to rest of posters who r responding negatively (and tangentially) to me, I’m just ignoring them cos they stated their opinions alrdy. I have no problm wit that

I gots no evidence to give and neither do u, so just chill and move on yo

PS in respect to comparison to arah, with pugs I had em take just as long as (or even longer than) pugs with 100 cm. soloing is like ~2x longer at least. I used to sell em too so I know prices, 24g (for 4 spots) was usually a given. but that was for 1-2 hrs of hard work, so well earned. all these guys selling 100 cm are doin is speedrunning 30min or so and selling one spot for 100g, or 25g per person. For more then half the work/effort easily.. u see the point tho

turns out I basically struck gold on 1st swing tho.. post on lfg, someone insta join and offer. neither of us sure of price so we’re like aite 20s for the small ones and bit more for the big uns. so maed like 20g easy when later that day was thinkin of destroy em anyway xD

ppl forget as soon as they hit their special action button (to drop poison wherever) they need to immediately dodge back or invuln or something. It’s prob a timing issue when they aren’t aware of what’s downing them.. then they’ll blame lag or something unrelated

so don forget: hardest part is not running to drop poison, hardest part is moment u drop poison and then stand in it (for whatever reason). 1 tick of that even basically enough to down any light armor class, bc it’s red poison aoe combined with grn poison floor.. mostly lethal

somewhat same mechanic on matt. somewhat same reason ppl down so much on well mechanic even on matt

ex. I see a brainless ps war run to corner and drop well, he only pops heal (defiant stance) when he’s running back and low on health. this is prob worst time to pop that heal.. like cmon use ur head bro

prob those same ppl that buy lvl 100 cm run for literally yes – 100g

always makes me cry when i see these posts in-game. If u ever wonder how low a skill lvl u can expect of average casual player.. unfortunately this is it

it’s funny but arah path took roughly same time as 100 cm does, once upon a time. only arah paths went for like ~4g a pop, which was hella lot cheaper lol

I dunno what’s wrong with majority of this playerbase tbh. nothing I ever learn anymore abt them shocks me, bc i have such low low expectations and bad opinions of every pug I come across to even begin with.. well now ya know doncha

PS how do u think I felt when i 1st learned raid wing prices – esp for xera and stuff? rhetorical ye but shocked senseless would be close to it. if I spend months to scrape by enough gold to craft a legend then I could prob buy one whole wing for a single week for that sum, for grand total of like 3 li. makes me laugh and cry when I think of it xD

Tips for mechanics on trio encounter ?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

Just note, I done trio a couple times successfully alrdy. Maybe a dozen times or so, maybe try for it 0-1 times a week since it kinda bores me to death. Usually don’t have much problem with it.. but only cos I don’t gotta do much. So I just slack on it and without extra roles it’s prty much a snoozefest up until last boss. In fact I’m not even assigned any extra roles.. so I can afford to not be aware of 50% of the boss-specific mechanics and still get it done. But lately I been assign sab duty as ps (warrior). This is new to me for many reasons. First, no one ever tasked me to do it so I have zero practice ofc (I understand the mechanics). Second, I only play ps war half the time for trio anyway, tbh I get bored easy with any class I do it. Also someone else usually volunteers to solo sabs so I dun gotta worry abt cc them and stuff.

So understanding aside, I still die way too easily after last boss spawns. When I down/die that’s also lead to higher chance for my grp to wipe, I know this. I can solo earlier sabs when they spawn prty easily. In fact the commander tend to assign both ps for sab duty so u would think I got some elbow room to work with.. but the other dude always without fail relegates this duty to me. To further compound my stress it seems, the cmd will remark how he could’ve assigned just one ps to handle sabs, since one guy is all u need for it. However that doesn’t explain why I die too fast, or what I’m doing wrong

Like I said am aware of mechanics, no need to explain spawn time to me. 1st sab early then long break, then short interval like half-minute between sab spawns – ye I get that. But problem is I dunno where I’m expected to be past last boss (Narella?) spawn. Before fight start I’m running thru mid so I get most of aggro from mobs. Then I stack on boss and put banners, don’t get much chance to do nothin before I gotta hightail it back for sabs lest they wipe our grp. So I gotta try and alternate like this, but problem here that soon it turns into a kittenstorm that I’m not sure I can navigate single-handedly. Running full dps utilities ofc, berserker heal and dual banners and stuff, so I got no leeway except a kittenty shield block. So dilemma here is run to cage too early, eat crossfire from most of mobs and risk running into hazards like pairs of fire tornadoes and patches of flak (throwback to sab encounter) strewn everywhere, basically end up with a kittenton of condis on me and downing from them, or go too late and arrive just in time to watch helplessly as sab blows up its target and wipes our entire grp. Doesn’t help that no one else follows me, so basically am self sustain for heals and can’t reliably count on res if I’m downed by mobs. Without heal signet too and full dps utilities, I’ve basically got low self sustain by myself so dunno how I’m expected to survive the clusterkitten that I step into soon as I get to mid. So any tips or point out what I’m doing wrong? This is prob a rare occurrence that I’d get called out to get on sabs but just in case I wanna be prepared so I don’t mess up or get myself killed or smthin

Suggestion for Mist Potions

More then solution for this, what I want is something more beneficial to me

stop with the guild decorative drops (and other similar junk that’s worse then junk cos u can’t vendor). pleas. not just in fotm and 100 cm and stuff, but in raids too. Half the reason I don’t rep a guild when raiding – don’t want those annoying guild decorative drops taking up space. They’re next to worthless cmon. Just to list a few that stand out to me & rly get on my nerves

  • resonating slivers
  • bloodstone dust/vision crystal mats
  • collection item drops (open world, or those in pve who don’t care abt the collections they’re for)
  • bandit death marks (wtf is this? srsly)
  • useless alrdy known recipe drops
  • extra mist pots/ascended salvage tools
  • fragment/chunk/blocks of solid ocean <— possibly most annoying

just give us auto destroy or auto sell option to reimburse us for drops that are not even good enough to be classify as trophies/junk. pls

Infinite Mist Omnipotion

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

If you want to do something super niche, just do it. Don’t ask the game devs to waste their time to serve it to you on a silver platter. Just take an infinite offensive potion and an infinite defensive potion and not an infinite mobility or omni potion. Simple. This topic is ridiculous.

I don’t think u understand the severity of the problem he’s facing. His concern is actually prty legit purely from a min-max perspective. I mean with infinite omnipot and war mechanics being how they are, there’s basically a very low chance to ever benefit from that minor trait. It’s like they could take it out from game & it would have little or no impact for fotm

It’s not just the extra endure regen to worry abt, with war constantly have to spam f1 to upkeep dmg bonus from berserkers power. This also has the inadvertent side effect of refilling our endurance bar slightly (abt 25% it looks like). Thus it also works against another minor trait that depends on not having that same bar full. It’s compounded by skills like the new heal one (idk the name) that resets our f1 cooldown to facilitate us spamming it more often. You’ll more likely encounter this in raids where u can actually substitute it in place of heal signet tbh.

But basically it’s a pretty significant problem, for me especially I can agree. Just bc it doesn’t apply to ur class/build or whatever doesn’t make the issue ‘ridiculous’. Its basically a problem of never benefiting from that minor trait with omnipot. It’s fine in fights like 100 cm but those ones are far and in between. Suggesting to include a ‘double dodge’ in our rotations is not helpful either, especially when we’re not a class that relies on dodges for active defenses, but rather more on blocks and invuln. Even if we empty our endurance bar like u would say, it refills so fast that we barely can finish a channeled burst like hundred blade in time before it wears off.. and iirc the last hit in a hb is the one that deals the most dmg so.. yeah its a problem.

So i agree mayb a toggle on/off for some ancillary effects of these infinite pots (such as the endurance regen bonus one, for the few fights we actually need it) would be nice. Especially when for most of the rare occasions we might actually need it, we actually dont. The bloomhunger fight irrc alrdy grants u like perma bonus to ur endurance recharge rate long as ur in the green areas. So yeah

Why no Dungeon change?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

nagr.1593

Seriously, Arah spent like 15-20 mins with average pug(P4 is longer), its current reward is just terrible. I think the bosses are ok, including Lupi, just need to reduce the running distance and the trash mobs.

What you’re asking for is an Arah fractal.

Exactly, people prefer quick and straight runs.

Dungeons don’t provide any good stuff other than tokens for special skins, of course it should be quick and less annoying if you want ppl to run them, otherwise what’s the purpose to find a group?

U alrdy solved ur own problem.. stated how arah take like 15min now with average pug, compared to like 30min before hot. What ur fail to realise is that dungeons were scaled to pre-hot (outdated) builds, thus their rewards r also outdated for most part. Elite spec warrior (to use 1 simple example) basically doubled dps from what we had previously. How it affected other classes then?

I done arah mayb once or twice since I gotten hot but I mean it’s just too ez now, everything dies way too quickly it’s anticlimactic tbh. Poor ooze doesn’t even get to bounce around or stomp some helpless scrub anymore, he just dissolves into a puddle soon as he appears. Lupi was alrdy broken to begin with, now he could be missing both eyes and an arm cos he rarely even downs anyone, can’t even manage to kill anyone b4 he gets burned down like a hot iron cutting thru cloth. Tbh most of what’s left in arah is just as homage to it’s former greatness, now it’s worth sweeping under the rug for the most part. But then again, lupi could alrdy be one-shot by a total noob using the wall trick, so it’s nothing new I guess

First off, you should approach this problem is a sensible way, starting with easiest bosses, and working your way up. Roughly, I would say in terms of difficulty (easiest first):

1.)escort
2.) trio
3.) gorseval (no updrafts is easier than updrafts if you know your dps rotation)
4.) keep construct
5.) sloth
6.) vale guardian
7.) sabetha
8.) xera
9.) Matthias

Problem with the list is that it’s deliberately vague. I mean I guess it’s aite if ur just generalizing but imo difficulty is gonna be drastically scaled or varied depending on ur role and stuff. So just FYI we could split it into 3 diff roles/approaches to illustrate if we wanted to, not rly the holy trinity or anything but based essentially on how much stuff u gonna be expected to juggle, obv some support/dps roles can sit on sidelines and do nothing while others handle the hard stuff, so that changes things too. Also on the list for condi/ ‘extra’ roles (which for xera for ex., would include platforms and shard clears and stuff) I’m just guesstimating since I obv have no clue.. judging purely tho from how many of them ragequit or get worked up over it.

I dunno that all these lists would be overly helpful tbh but prob especially the last, since no one point it out to me whilst I was learning to grasp these things myself.

Support/melee:

  1. vale guardian
  2. kc
  3. xera
  4. gorseval
  5. trio
  6. escort
  7. sloth
  8. sabatha
  9. matthias

Ranged/condi/extra roles: (*)

  1. escort (wargs)
  2. gorseval (spirits)
  3. trio (sab)
  4. vale guardian (greens)
  5. sloth (slubling)
  6. kc (orbs)
  7. sabatha (cannons)
  8. matthias (survival)
  9. xera

Tank:

  1. gorseval (no updraft)
  2. kc
  3. gorseval (updrafts)
  4. vale guardian
  5. xera

(*) – best guess :P

Good stories nagr, but I have to agree with Coconut here — you’re derailing solid advice and basically saying, “hey, don’t do any homework at all and just find a way to ping 100 insights and it’ll be fine”.

Where did I say that – where?

So yeah lie to get ur 1st kill if u have to, that’s what I did. I use the term ‘lie’ here half-jokingly as it’s not necessarily as such. I mean just read guides or watch vids of encounters, u won’t need much explained tbh.

that sounds familiar? yeah basically mirrors what u said earlier..

a good commander will be watching different parts of the team, and will know right away if you’re full of BS. You’ll simply be dishonorably discharged if join reqs were set and you blatantly lied about your qualifications.

And how do u define lying exactly? There’s a little white lie and a huge big one that’ll wipe ur group and kill ur chances of successful kill. I agree the latter should be punishable by swift discharge. I have kicked a ps on VG once for running fire runes -> 0% boon duration, in addition to this no banners at all but selfish traits. Not specified in post explicitly either. Should someone have told him to run dual banners at all times? How is ‘exp’ defined to you – exp with ur class and its mechanics, or exp with the encounter? If it’s both or either then y not state that in LFG, instead of ‘X LI, killproof, ping gear’? A person can meet gear and LI reqs but be terrible at his class or role (like orb pushing at kc, or using spirit res on platforms in xera) do u think this should always be punishable by insta-kick since they obv don’t meet the qualficiations? I might even agree they deserve to be kicked, but does this necessarily or usually happen? No, they are 7/10 times not kicked for failing the implied class check. So what do you define as qualifications or exp in that case – what do u believe most others would consider as such?

Obviously ur only discharged in such circumstances if u call urself out by urself actions, and then u deserve it. Like stealing and being caught red handed, that deserves punishment simply for failing to do it right. But lie abt qualifications and no one’s the wiser, then there’s very little chance of getting discharged as u say.

I personally use the steps I’ve posted, as do dozens of friends and acquaintances I’ve spoken to. It’s solid advice not based on lies.

Have I quoted ur post or even mentioned it in my response? You never stated anything abt lying (or not lying) in ur post, so I dunno how I could be accused of statuing anything contrary to what u said in any way. Only point I disagreed with is need for training runs and guilds, training runs can be a colossal waste of time and an exercise in frustration basically, and oh yeah u can still have a tiff with guildies and end up with one of u blocking the other, thus never seeing the other’s chat ever. But other than that.. no. I dunno why u are putting words in my mouth here..

Best way to start raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

nagr.1593

Hi all, what is the best way to get started with Raiding? Mostly have ascended gear armor/trinkets but no asc weapons yet. Am really into Fractals and up to about 50 now (climbed from 20 this week). and was looking into the next progression, which seems to be raids as dungeons and now ezpz. Not really sure Raid strats, but am good at following directions though, so would be looking for an informational team…

It’s curious that u have ascended armor and not weps.. this seems like a common misconception that’s probably going to only get more misconstrued with the advent or release of legendary armor esp with the overblown hype surrounding it and whatnot. So probably worthwhile to disabuse u of the implicit notion while it still remains in its nascent stage.. but the long and short of it is that statwise weps > trinkets > armor (iirc).

Anyway as to getting your feet wet with raids.. I’d probably advise a swan dive approach into it, though I know I risk getting shot down by others here on the forums for doing so. So funny side story here, I joined a 100 cm group today when still it’s inception or somthin with 2 others in grp, one of them insta-left (I would call it an insta-ragequit, funnily enough) simply upon seeing a war was on board in the grp. I pm’d him and we had a few back and forths and managed to keep it civil, basically me asking why he dislikes wars and him countering that 100 cm is ‘un-meleeable’ in his words, me stating all bosses in t4 are meleeable and interspersing it with helpful L2p quips, him getting angry and pinging me full stacks of LI for some reason, me brushing it off and offering to ping more than max allowed amt of it in one stack, him childishly blocking me and then hate-mailing me vials of salt or some such afterward when he knew I could not hit ‘return to sender’ on him.. u know, funny and trivial everyday stuff that happens with pugs for some reason.

Basically point here is, LI is meaningless as illustrated in this scenario. Dude had no clue what to expect, missed out on a good grp that got done maybe half hour and one wipe across the bosses (on the orbs on last one). Now apply this to raids where LI is actually used.. knowing that some1 ran raids x times over the span of many months is infeasible to determine skill imo. How many x times you’ve got kill on a boss (or almost kill) is more important indicator at least for ‘hands on’ exp imo, however that’s not rly possible to get a measure of either. So LI, the more imperfect standard, is prevalently used instead.

Being relatively newcomer to raids (easily more then 6 months late in getting hot myself) I can relate.. tho I suppose I am slowly becoming as jaded as most others who ask for 200 li and stuff, that’s just cos no one bothers to read lfg posts (a common widespread problem that started waaay before even hot). So yeah lie to get ur 1st kill if u have to, that’s what I did. I use the term ‘lie’ here half-jokingly as it’s not necessarily as such. I mean just read guides or watch vids of encounters, u won’t need much explained tbh. Of course it’s a little more different when ur actually experiencing it firsthand, ofc that’s where ‘hands-on’ training comes into play. It’s what I did to.. never joined a single training run except for vg either, and yet look here I am with almost 100 li under my belt.

That best advice I can give u is just to dive headfirst into it, heck join exp if u are at least more than semi-exp since that’s how most ppl get their 1st kill anyway. But yeah u also gotta keep in mind some stuff like.. go for those ts and other voice chat clients as a must when u join grps that use em, I mean believe it or not I got more or less castigated earlier when I related my technical issues and difficulties in getting em to work (e.g. browser incompatibilities and stuff). So yeah get on voice chat they actually friendly most pugs anyway and they will help u out give u some running commentary like where next cannons spawn on sab and stuff that can save u some headache in the long run. But I mean otherwise just try to be honest when u can, obv pinging two full stacks of LI and falling face flat on ground every chance u get is counterintuitive, I mean I guess u can see why…

I agree there should be more incentive I mean back when dungeons had rewards u could easily make 10-15g each day at least, no joke. Iirc even t4 dailies it’s like what 3-4g at best even with encryptions? Wth happened how did we lose potential for farming gold in legit manner (y is ab farm still goin on – is it still?)

so maybe bit more incentive like don’t force us to do one specific content to farm gold. If we wanna do fractals to farm but not mindnunbingly like farm 40 frac or some thing, let’s go, maek it happen.

So maybe repeat gold rewards? Or extra bonus similar to how run 5 dung paths, get some set gold. For instance I like particular fractals in dailies, rest is just meh to me. Can I repeat those dailies cos I like to do em again, like I get something other than a few crap junk items I sell for couple silvers at least? I’d liek that

So yeh I’m willing to run like chaos or thauma twice daily maybe, but rite now it’s not worth it and there’s no point unless ur runnin around bored in la or somthin. so cmon make me wana do stuff like this.. gold income from dailies fractal is terrible tbh, just a slight step up from regular dailies and I never do em cos yknow

Technically never had that happen to me even when in running dolyak signet or something, I mean I feel like it’s a minor breach of another’s personal space if they are individually checking what utilities u are running or something. I rarely get this sort of treatment from pugs where they will remark something out of the blue or chasten u purely dictated on what build/food/utilities ur running. I’m more used to it happening in raids tho, but I won’t get kicked over something so childish. More like it’s start of an encounter, and someone will reproof me saying that i have wrong utilities slotted (why am i running heal signet? why elite signet of rage?) then I calmly have to remind them that I’ve just joined and have yet to change my build, since I might’ve been running an open world build for that extra fury and swiftness it gives. Like I said pugs rarely tell me how to play even when I still run stuff like Endure pain when unsure of team comp or something. So idk

I’ve been kicked for similarly petty reasons in t4s tho, so I can relate. Like I joined for dailies one time and I enter instance, as soon as I enter I’m kicked bc ‘theyve heard abt me complain in raid subforums’. Really? If you are using allegiant behavior and conformity as a baseline litmus test for ur pug groups, then I’m just shaking my head at you. Especially with t4 pugs.. where 9.9/10 times u can get by without saying a single word in chat, long as u understand the mechanics. I don’t get it cos this same hypercritical attitude likewise spills over to other content like raid pugs. Ono insta-kick cos I’m so reliant on gossip to determine someone’s worth from that.. like wow get over yourself. Only thing this cynical attitude does is spread ur cynicism to the hapless victim who has been exposed to it. So yeah let’s keep this up we can contribute to making this community more positive and friendly place a little bit at a time by doing so.. yay

One thing that I don’t think many know is that if you don’t have to eat many shrooms (closer to the middle usually) it’s actually helpful to eat your shrooms a bit slower (wait like ~1 second before eating it).

The thing is that if you eat the last shroom long before the next subling spawns your room actually becomes smaller at one point and you will have to move the boss quicker.

Of course if your group has no problems and moves fast you can eat quick and deal more DPS because of that.

I feel like there’s an art form to this, where u have to actually undergo a couple wipes (with most fingers invariably pointed towards you) before u can begin to perfect thr craft. It’s similar to something like learning to melee t4 chaos end boss with pugs while balancing dps with survival I.e. not downing thru entire fight. It’s messy and chaotic but through the thick and thin there is some measure of transcendence to be gleaned in the conquest of that trivial feat by itself.

Most ppl I come across usually seem to give the advice to ‘not eat more than 3-4 shrooms’. In retrospect this is actually pretty good advice, as this shorthand is actually the most concise explanation u can give to pugs. To explain the logistics of it to the typical unsuspecting casual would probably be more trouble than it’s worth, at least with the in-game chat. Almost as worse as having pugs explain the order for cannons in Sab in shorthand (cue unnecessary headache if not tasked with cannoneers). This shorthand actually takes into account the limited time as slubling to further allow it to set the pace for you. Which I suppose is also why why pugs have a predilection to eat through mid.. it generally doesn’t matter at what pace u eat the shrooms or if u start or end early, since fulfilling that arbitrary upper ceiling limit on how many to eat is by itself usually good enough. So you really don’t have to count how many x seconds to wait betwixt consuming shrooms, or count how much ticks u have left on the counter for slub form or what have u.

The way I do it is a little more cost-efficient (I think) but also a little more reliant on constant observation to successfully pull it off. So basically I only eat those max amount of shrooms as mentioned, but have my own way of ascertaining at what pace to move so as to preclude the possibilities of either going at too slow a pace and risk stalling them indefinitely, or panic eating too fast and thus hampering ur grp by further constricting the free space they have allotted as their safe zone. Either tactics can be problematic enough to warrant a group wipe. So rather than count the seconds in between, I find it’s more practical to espy ur group and intermittently take note of their positioning relative to u, but more importantly to keep a track of how quickly the poison on their footsteps is sluggishly creeping towards them. So suppose u freeze frame and witness at a particular instant in time that their playing field has receded by some extent, then u even that playing field by eating the next shroom in line at that point in time. I actually find it’s less of a hassle to tackle it with this method but of course the obvious downside is that u are reduced more or less to playing watchdog, an approach that might not suit everyone’s playstyle admittedly. But then again, to each their own.

This is not a rant thread, I’m just confused as to why people don’t speak up, a couple of days ago I was in a chaos fractal group it was going quite well..UNTIL the bonfire part of it(failed 6 times in a row). 2 out of 5 (including myself) were the only ones who knew what to do. At this point I’m guessing the people that were with us wanted to be carried. I asked “is anyone new to this instance?” only 1 of the 3 said something, I explained what to do. only the one who asked understood while the other 2 still did nothing. Why is it so hard to say something?

not everyone speaks the universal language of the world, sadly enough.

understanding numbers should not matter what language u speak though. tho maybe they were being ignorant deliberately on purpose then

WOW, you really, really, really just don’t get it. Let us count the ways

1. Is there a rumor going around that I lie? How can u prove that I’m lying. I just said that I’m lying earlier by faking my LI, guess what I’m not proud of it but there are tons of ppl out there who do exactly that or simply sneak in without pinging anything. You disqualifying me as a pathological liar – do u see the paradox here? I admitted I’m lying, u call me a liar. So in fact I am not lying but telling the truth, but that can’t be bc u have labeled me as a liar. Woe is me

2. Where are my wildly false accusations? Name one u think is 100% completely false

3. The community that has stated many times they care nothing for my problems, couldn’t care less. Well I likewise couldn’t care less about pug attitude or how raids are so hostile towards newcomers or otherwise. A guy joins who doesn’t speak English, says he’s Thai. No one can speak thai, so they kick him. Do u see how that’d a completely different scenario? Yet it sheds no light on anything.

4. I have never tried to force anything. People have said they will block me after reading this and I have not forced them to do otherwise. I am simply appealing to their conscience

5. It’s not my fault u are prejudiced against me, for me voicing something I believe strongly in. ‘I have a dream too’ u know.

6. Who is making wildly untrue accusations now? Aha

Where did I make accusations against a specific person or group of people? I have never pointed or singled anyone out. I am simply speaking from my perceived truth. When I have accused someone it has been in defense when someone has accused me of some specific incident. Again it’s a plea against player base not an accusation against any person or specific grp of people who I want to prove their innocence or demand to know why they [as individual] blocked me. Don’t misinterpret my message here pls

I never heard about ppl instantly blocking players because they “only” have failed.

Just because u never heard of something happen doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. If a tree falls there can be no one to say that it fell, but fact remains that it fell. Similarly another person mentioned that it’s impossible for person to block u after they have kicked u for simply failing at something even once. I would disagree completely.. this in fact happened to me yesterday. An acquaintance who I know for years who used to help me with arah runs, silent kicked and blocked me immediately after, just bc I failed. I never said anything remotely hostile in chat either. Can you guess his reason why he kicked me? I don’t know and you don’t know, but you’re welcome to make a guess why. Just like I am allowed my own guess as to why he did what he did.

If you are making the assertion, racism in this case, then the burden of proof is on you.

If you are being kicked, instantly, without any interaction, then how would they know your race?

Personally I have no idea what your skin color might be, what ethnicity you are, or even what gender. But I would consider blocking you for your behavior in this thread.

They have something called ts. 9/10 times u can tell a person’s race or skin from their tone, inflection, or accent. I agree it’s not always accurate but it definitely cannot be discounted either

U can also judge a person by their attitude and behavior or their language even in-game and come to a biased (not necessarily correct) conclusion based on these facts. It’s not unheard of either, I will laugh if anyone says otherwise – most often those ppl have never experienced it for themselves.

I don’t understand how my behavior here is so wrong. Why do u say that? Most of u have never played with me b4 thus can’t honestly judge my skill or how I conduct myself in groups. I could come here and rant but be a perfectly polite and understanding person in game who rarely ever kicks/blocks nyone even though he can. If you would argue otherwise, then u are discriminating against me based on unrelated observations, which is as good as believing a rumor abt a person as soon as u hear it.

If anyone else, say someone from Dnt guild or someone recognized like Nike made the same appeal I did, do u still think they would get 10 consecutive responses where ppl said they would block them just bc of their behavior on the same thread? I don’t honestly believe that, and neither would u.

Welcome aboard, welcome to toxic!

Guess what? I just checked my blocked list and for my surprise you were there! and what was the reason? I don’t remember, and i don’t care what was the reason, because if you’re blocked for me, you probably done something that i didn’t like. It’s pointless to hold grudge? You’re wrong, people hold grudge, this is the way the world works and if you’re not satisfied don’t interact with people.

Do you think I am not aware of this? This was my entire point and u are proving it word for word. I don’t see how I can simply refuse to interact with people in 10man instanced content that requires teamwork and voice chat on regular basis.

Yeah, you can avoid so many problems and therefore stress just because of this wonderful tool [sic in-game block], i wish they existed in real life.

They do exist actually, in form of restraining orders and other legal stuff. If you are talking about blocking a person simply upon seeing their face in a crowd or reading their name on a list, then I have nothing against it if that’s ur ideal world. Only problem is it would bring back segregation more or less, and ‘no shirts no service’ would be replaced with ‘no [insert offending race here]’ and that’s perfectly plausible from practical standpoint. The laws could even be changed to denigrate the value of a person bc of their race or color. But the downside of that is it would be exactly like going back in time to an unfortunate period that’s now long since past.

They blocked me even before I joined their squad. If they give no explanation then I am sorry but I have to classify it as discrimination. I can call it racism if I want, you can’t say otherwise cos no one has any proof to the contrary. In fact my explanation is the one that makes the most sense, especially when I don’t even recognize that I’ve ever raided with the person who insta kicked me.

I believe I have a right to know why I was insta kicked, and why the person had alrdy blocked me prior to this. I know this bc a split second later I couldn’t even whisp that person.

Imagine this scenario: I get kicked on join, no explanation given. I rejoin, only to get insta kicked again. So I rejoin again, and get a split moment where I ask them to explain y they kicked me. They refuse to say anything, so I have no choice but to write it off as discrimination or worse discrimination based on my race or color. Explain to me in what world that is even considered stalking on my part, please.

Again ppl think racism doesn’t translate to other mediums like over internet. Well how about phone conversation – do u think ppl would treat me differently if they heard my voice on phone or over ts? Answer honestly pls

Yes I have bad habit of doing that (not stalking per se, but whenever I randomly find their grps on lfg), will admit it’s silly of me but I (to the core of my being) believe one of that person initially blocked me for absolutely no apparent reason. Try to follow a rumor back to its source and see if it holds truth. Do I know this person who block me? I doubt they even know why they even blocked me, but repeatedly insta kick me stubbornly despite that.

Why don’t u ask how it started? I remember u and know u blocked me. But why did u block me? Bc a friend or guildie of urs hated me (not for raid related but squad related). And why did that guildie hate me? Purely bc his friend decided to block me on one blue moon without any apparent reason. I can’t even ask this person (source of problem) why they blocked me. They don’t respond in chat. They don’t respond bc they can’t read what I say or ask. They can’t read my chat cos they have me on block. So I have no other proof to contrary other than to write this off as internet discrimination, pure and simple

So round and round we go, and for what? What started this rumor that spread from mouth to mouth.. and what’s the merit of it?

Seriously. This game encourages a playstyle where u block a player X for any slight no matter how trivial or irrelevant, then u will forget abt that whole incident weeks and even months later but will only judge player X as having made it on ur blocks list at some point or another. This will lead to preconception and strong aversion to ever include that person in ur 10man grp ever again. It was tolerable with dungeon and even fotm pugs, now it’s common practice to tag up and childishly pay someone back for kicking at u or insulting u (whatever each person perceives as insult) and thus making it harder for both parties to pug raids bc u have a personal tiff with them.

Everyone can agree it’s pointless to hold something over another person’s head for something they done weeks and weeks ago, but u would be shocked how many do exactly that.

Example, there was a person who failed glide twice on xera and he got embarrassed and left, said to replace him. Someone suddenly stated they kicked that person in a previous grp, and then someone else said how that person [char name] is now on their list of ppl to never raid with. Very good chance they will hold this grudge to this player weeks and weeks hence. No one has any inkling why they have blocked ppl after an indeterminate amt of time.

I give example of me personally, on t4 bloomhunger I just came back from break and used to die and die constantly. I struggled to not die every few moments into fight. People laughed at me and wrote me off, they insulted my build and even kick me out of fotm group saying I can’t stop dying. Then I practice, weeks later i don’t even down anymore. I even 2man when pugs wipe at the critter part (between phase). It’s pathetic and I tell them that. But despite how far I come there, If this was a raid then I would get insta kicked by someone who observed me falling on my face from weeks ago. Difficulty not even issue.. I will get insta kicked even from vg, trio, escort – basically all the easy mode raids. Just bc ppl can’t let go and have no incentive to ever unblock ppl on their lists

So take a look at yours (block list) and see how many ppl u have on their for raid related matters. Now how many do u remember what they did wrong, without note next to their name to say? If this is ur philosophy: “once I block, they are never getting off, ever” then I can’t appeal to u.

But if not, then I beseech think abt how this will effect in 10man grp for grps that rarely even form and so easily disband. If it helps, think of them as 50man squads that form all the time, that u can find them on lfg without fail any time of day. Now if u had option to insta kick everyone that join ur 50man grp if they on ur blocks or on ur friends blocks or on someone elses blocks in same squad, would u make use of this? If so why, if not why not.

Nightmare fractal feedback [merged]

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

  • I don’t run with any particular group because my guild doesn’t do that and I don’t have enough friends who play fractals regularly. It’s rare that PUGs are optimized appropriately for the fight, the result is it taking 15 minutes.
  • There are times when you cannot dodge his attacks. Such as when your evade bar is empty from dodging previous attacks, or when you’re trying to get a teammate up to keep them from dying. And his charge attack will instantly kill a downed player, normal or challenge mode. Not sure what fractal you’re playing. Only time I haven’t seen it do that is when somebody’s build is specifically designed to be a tank, such as a celestial druid.
  • No, this fight is clearly different in terms of difficulty – even with practice. Bloomheart you can kite around while people get dead people up. You cannot kite Enolyss — his attacks are huge and he switches targets rapidly and without any predictability. Mossy also doesn’t sit around and wail on downed people. Enolyss hits also do significantly more damage, and a single person going down can doom the entire fight, especially if it occurs in the later phases of the fight.
  • I also want to point out that the increase in difficulty on Bloomy was not accompanied by better loot either. This is a problem ANet seems to have when it comes to understanding risk vs reward.

Not true, his charged attack not always kill in downed state, even in 100 cm. They don’t even have to be running tank gear as u say.. I’ve seen many druid not even get half dmg in downed from charge. I’m heavy and zerk, if downed I get maybe 70% dmg in downed from charge (without boons). How u say

Full stack def pots, perma prot, food pots. All told like abt 70% dmg reduc from just this. But that not necessarily how it works I guess, it seems these boons not additive (judging from wiki).

If my calculation r right then this all translate to abt 22% dmg reduction for heavy from no boons to safe boons. This take also into acct iirc one of mist pots transfers some % to ur toughness, thus help further with dmg reduction.

So downed not 100% die from charge, even pugs and even if full zerk

__

u ask me last fight is like bad joke (almost) even on challenge. Really predictable and his attacks go in order, rarely breaks chain of attacks to surprise u (it’s cd-based so u can usually predict next move). His entire fight with him is yawnfest. Only ppl that run out of dodge die. But if u have infinite mist pots u will never run out of dodge ever.

The only crazy thing is the orbs. Orbs r frustrating for 90% of pugs I see, especially that 2nd orb phase is like a kittenstorm of raining kitten. Grps all wipe usually on this part.. then start over. This phase needs nerf bad (imo)

The only reason I think thaumanova needs revisiting is because it actually gets longer as you go to higher tiers. I don’t mean it necessarily takes longer, but you have to clear more rooms at higher tiers than at lower tiers, and I think that’s just an outdated design. I would rather see ANet nerf some of the rooms at lower levels and expect everyone at all levels to clear all of the rooms (which would also help people learn the mechanics of each room better before getting to T3/4), or remove a room or two and make the remaining rooms harder. Also, adding a breakbar to the anomaly would be awesome

+1 I wanna do the heat room as grp but it’s too ez as is. I dun wanna be able to solo it in few secs.. what’s the point? is it utility check cos that wat it is

So make heat room harder. Idc how u do it but it must req teamwork, not rest of team ignoring it and running off ahead. Like dun leav me alone wtf. Come here and port me halfway or somthin cos the dmg ticks are like twice as brutal

Similar deal with thos laser room. The shields should insta kill after 3 use, and double the number of golems and have them chase whole grp rather then gang up on one dude. Reprogram their ai or somthin jeez

Also y I dun wanna be force to run t4 chaos or snoblind with toxic trail. pugs try to force me to do toxic trail when I dun wanna. It’s like they’re slowly killing me as a grp when I dunno y that’s fair of em

Sab – condi better
Sloth – condi better
Escort – gs on cap group condi on ground team
Xera – condi better

I don’t understand ur reasoning for these..

For sab, power ps better imo since u can take big bombs most of time. For instance on chrono, I have trouble and have to interrupt rotations to move if ps are not stacked on top.

Sloth, I dunno that it matters overmuch tbh since u can still cleave adds long as they get pulled in. It’s not ur job to pull in mobs. Also I take shroom as ps so I’m not rly useful there except for banners and stuff

Escort – prty much faceroll tbh and it doesn’t matter whether u run condi or power. If u got good team that can pull mobs, power works on grnd also. Tbh most time I do escort even when not war, I see most of time the ps are dying.. Some of them condi too so idk

Xera I run power ps and it’s fine anyway. So what u don’t stand on platforms, that’s just a small part of xera tbh. Shard clears I agree melee is weak, but that’s y u have team. On xera fight itself (boss fight) dunno that there any clear winner either.

Fractals – condi better

So here my question is.. why? I dunno I rarely even have problem with melee in t4s. But I dunno if this related, but on 100 cm few days ago, I got kicked out after we kill 1st boss just bc I not running condi build. I never died that fight either, I also promise not die later. Plus their LFg post said nothin abt condi build. So I’m at a loss what to say at moments like this.

Are Infinite Mist Potions worth getting?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

Believe or not I actually read all this, but at the end my head hurt trying to follow your line of reasoning that I eventually gave up. It’s like one of those paradoxes where u have to decide who’s in the right: then u realize there was no right answer to begin with, but rather an equivocal one open to interpretation. Sometimes I enjoy those but I’m not good at understanding em, it just seems all tedious and pointless to me.

So basically the footnote to that is that infinite pots are incredibly worth it for daily t4s, more than regular ones. I would concur as that adds nothing contraindicatory to what I’ve held in belief. However the math behind this I wasn’t aware of, tbh if I’m understanding it right then it all seems overly convoluted tbh

I got the infinite offensive pot first before they increased the relic cost for it (I think?). I might’ve used endless tonic to buy them since I did get a lucky drop, but the other two and even omnipot I payed with hard cash, in this case relics. I only been doing fotm for 2-3 months since I guess that’s when I got back, but it wasn’t too bad for me tbh. How u ask?

Simply take pots out of equation. I never used any of em or bought em (waste of relics IMO) but rather I made use of ones I had in my inv that I got as ancillary drops. Most of that period I was doing dailies tbh there was not even an option to sell pots to vendor, so I would just end up destroying unnecessary ones when I got the infinite versions for them.

Therefore, just as in another similarly monolithic undertaking such as gathering funds to acquire a legendary, u have to approach this frugally. Don’t spent relics on anything, just save me up for infinite pot. Once u have the bottomless version of it, sell or destroy single-use versions of it for additional relics. U will find that ur expenditure has been reduced by this shrewd, penny-pinching play

..but some of the attack chains felt cheap as hell. The pound (run out of the circle), then shockwave (jump it) and then the hallucinations (dodge) is brutal if you miss the very first get out of the circle because you have no chance to recover from the second and third parts of the attack chain. It feels a kittenslap.

There’s a handy little trick to that I believe few ppl figure it out as well (I did by myself) but dodge into his circle and somewhat close to his hitbox and u will avoid shockwave entirely. Then simple dodge follow by that but, more commonly, simply sidestepping out of that minion explode part will likewise do the trick.

Therefore u reduce it from max of 3 dodges to roughly 1.5 dodges being required (provided ur somewhere close to boss). If not, dodge shockwave and sidestep out for an average of 0.5 dodges. Imo ranged does have it slightly easier for this attack.

It felt good finally beating the final fight. I do wish the basic lvl 100 was tuned down just a little for the final fight mostly so I don’t have to spend 30min-1 hr on one fractal when it’s the daily.

I want the end boss buffed, in the sense I hope they add in some measure of unpredictability to his rotations so ur not always rolling ur eyes knowing what he do next. Kind of like lupi.. hundreds of kills later, that guy still manages to surprise u. That’s just so amazing to me.

Fractal bosses have an unhealthy tendency to be scripted and so obviously cd-based on their rotations that’s a yawn moment that u can predict exactly what attack (or narrow the list greatly) is next in his set pattern. Case in point, archdiviner. Perhaps even chaos end boss to some degree, but she still has tendency to shock me past 50%.

Nightmare end boss? No element of surprise once u get it down. He does shield (no defiance phase) immediately followed by either knockback or shockwave attk. U alrdy know what he’s gonna do next, he just cycles through a set of 3-4 attks and never does the same one twice. It’s just so unstimulating even the normal mode I just want to cry…

Difficulty (or nerfing of it) is not the issue. Unpredictability is.

Those split moment decisions rarely there. There’s nothing u fail cos u can’t respond in time to it. On contrary u have plenty of time and warning. But u fail bc u are just careless, or don’t have any dodges left, or there no heals, or u don’t cc fast enough. Not cos it’s challenging per se.

Well maybe I was a little unnecessarily harsh there but I mean even a role like ps u would think it’s so simple but in the end it all comes down to rotations, I mean let me try a rotation of just hb and aa and see how the dps compares.

war dps is alrdy pathetically low. I’ve stress this many times and I hate this fact. We have 20k dps on an average day, and I’m still running str runes cos I would need em for pugs outside of raids. I can’t imagine just stack not move, a rotation alternating between hb and aa – I can’t imagine how much worse that would be. So because I can’t know it, I will give u benefit of doubt that ur advice not necessarily wrong

Point is ok, it’s just VG.. but even then, u want to maximise ur grps chance of success so u can actually kill it. I’m not saying he have to be perfect but I mean dodging or avoiding blues, swap set to cc in cc phase, this is going to reinforce future behavior in other raid content if he decide to continue.

If he slacks, aa’s the whole time, doesn’t run boon duration stuff or fails to understand mechanics like what to avoid and what not to, he will similarly approach other raid boss. Suppose he continue w1 like after 1st time they kill vg they decide to continue to next boss.. which is dps check but even if support dps doesn’t need to be perfect, I would at least want it to be at that level where it does make a significant difference – a bad warrior with basic hb rotation would clearly do noticeably worse dps than warrior with more varied rotation. The gap need be wide enough there be need (and enough room) to improve as player. Maybe this is not the case, I dunno, but I would want it as such

So let me add, I play Warrior, and I can only concentrate on my own DPS.

One question for any Warriors on here, in Stage 1 when we have pinned near the speed mushroom should I at any point use Bladetrail? I’m thinking no, but well I’m obviousily not sure. Also, someone explain to me what good the banners do after the split when we’re pulling him in a circle. Somehow chaos always ensues, so even the best laid plans (banners) are probably being missed by our party.

You shouldn’t be concentrating only on DPS but watch out also for blues and CC when needed. Bladetrail is only used when boss not against wall, otherwise it’s a dps loss. If your stacking on wall and he’s near edge, don’t use bladetrail.. just cut that out of ur rotations.

Banners when boss is mobile is an issue, I just put em most times in the nearest colored area (unsafe zone) from where u start. You could also put em right in the center, if u coordinate with ur tank a priori and he agrees to kite boss within the innermost concentric circle, thus guaranteeing entire pt would get the most out of banners the whole while they are up.

the main skill is auto attack banners and hundred blades.

If your definition of rotations for war is ‘spam hb and aa’ then ur doing something seriously wrong. This is a watered down version where it’s somthin comparable to Rev rotation maybe only there’s the distinction, war is not have same mechanics as rev.

It’s like those terribad players who’re so awful they somehow struggle to play a simple class like war. The role of ps has been advocated by many as being ‘braindead’, then what is the term for players who have trouble with the class mechanics, such as understanding the role itself and how mechanics work?

In a sab group once I came across a pair of outstandingly useless wars who didn’t know what their role was. Stacking with rest of grp, mindless aa drone dps, and refusing to listen or change their behaviors despite repeated advice is like an affront to ur class. Me and another dude got so fed up with it after we realised the wars were determined to be useless, that we both insta left over that. I even give them a caustic shout out before I also dipped. But there again i have the problem that i need a full new ascended set -.-
I guess condi with berserker gear isnt that good

and therein lies the rub, as they like to say. Of course if you’re dead set on it, you could always convert the ascended set u have (armors and weps) to the condi stats u would need. However it’s kinda expensive to convert an entire armor set to the new stats u would need, it’s approximately 60g with today’s market. The accoutrements are an upward struggle by themselves, for me it took almost a month to farm enough rubies for the backpiece by itself. The rest of what u would need afaik will require a lot of effort and time invested in them where u will be forced to intimately learn and get acclimated to ur current build (power ps in this case). In fact some of the pieces arguably require you to dip your hands in raiding before they can be spoken for. So at the end of the road, u might decide the journey was not worth it to begin with. Note that I am only projecting here, as I don’t know how committed u are towards this goal either.

Imo you should never be forced into playing a class and build that u are unfamiliar with or adverse to, especially since this is a game and shouldn’t be that intimidating to begin with. Both of aforementioned decisions should be solely deliberated with your playstyle and personal preferences taken into consideration. For instance, the choice of melee or ranged/condi builds. I personally welcome a challenge that is particularly galvanizing and unforgiving towards melee builds, as it’s more of an ‘in media res’ experience for me. I played ranged builds for the longest time and I still feel it was a better fit, or rather better suited towards MMOs like WOW where ranged had a less clunky design to it. To me melee just feels more natural for this game mode, especially ranged in pve seems kind of lackluster and standoffish – it’s generally only used if ur nervous abt the mechanics and hesitant to step into the heat of battle.

So if needed, be able to adapt to situations by changing utilities in a pinch. I personally dislike changing my build – most often I will forget to change my build, and this leads to complications for me. If I am familiar enough with both variations of builds then I will change them with ease, but entirely diff story when I have to change to swap out all my gear on top of that. It’s an inconvenience I resent.. So most often swapping out utilities works as jury rigging for me. Consider the most troublesome fights for melee such as brazen gladiator and bloomhunger, u will realise u have to employ hit and run tactics to survive them. It’s a little bit awkward at 1st, so drop banners if needed since ur always on the move. I run a sole banner for both now that I’m more intimately familiar with the mechanics, but if ur still struggling to overcome the learning curve then I would just go selfish skills and just emphasize on survival above boon-sharing with ur teammates or whatever altruistic purpose u have in mind.

I can 100% assure u that it is a L2p issue, as I myself had the exact same problems u had and in fact I still do with some groups. What helps to kinda ameliorate this issue is being more mindful of boons or anything u can do to increase ur odds of success, such as running mist pots whenever u feel the need to. So for instance, whenever I’m in an all-condi group I will start to worry that my uselessness as PS warrior (melee) is almost guaranteed. Especially with all selfish condi builds – 4 necros and a solo GS warrior is almost always going to be a train wreck for that one warrior, or any class with low self-sustain on their own. Another thing to be mindful of what instabilities ur group chooses. Suppose I join a pug that chooses toxic trail lvls such as ones for Snowblind and Chaos. I insta leave those since it makes sense as melee ur going to struggle more with that. Honestly it’s mostly the instabilities u need to watch out for.. most of them are especially hard on melee, such as social awkwardness. It is actually the most stressful pet peeve for me when someone moves around a lot that their hitboxes intersect mine momentarily – I get very touch abt that and castigate them in grps when they continuously persist with such annoying behavior.

I can tell u tho while I didn’t see many melee builds in pugs, ps melee is still useful in t4s. Originally I would wipe all the time on bosses like chaos endboss, now that I know what build to use and how to counter mechanics I rarely even down. Similar deal with bloomhunger, completely sustainable to melee for prolonged periods but u would have to think abt how would u approach him from melee perspective. Everything in t4 can be meleed with the build u mention imo

Transmute Legendaries w/o losing stat change?

in Players Helping Players

This is a common sense question, my friend.

Transmuting an exotic item with the skin of a lesser quality item will still retain the same exotic-lvl stats.

Likewise with legendaries.. When transmuting it is only the skin that changes, nothing more or less. You will still be able to swap stats on the go, and even in the item description when you mouse over it, it will show that the weapon is origianlly a legendary <name of legendary> that was transmuted.

I can confirm as I do this with Bolt, one of the legendaries who I feel the effects are too brazen and garish after a while, with parallels drawn to skins such as Volcanus I suppose. I use an exotic skin (though still considerably pricey skin) in place of the Bolt skin. It still retains all other functionalities as a legendary would

I’m using last boss as example I mean it’s possible to break his bar with 2 ppl very quickly provided they both have good CCs. What more do u want

If u talking abt blinds working for him, then congrats ur now introduced another broken lupi. It get to point that players are so reliant on having guardian or somthin to cheese the boss that they refuse to do it otherwise.. thats not how fight was intended either

Hi my char name is in sig, just finish it for 1st time day or so ago (incompetent grps or lack of time before this) but am very familiar with it now. Also don’t join my grps if ur not running any infinite pots at all.. this is just pathetic for me, would not believe how many grps I had where 2-3 ppl said they had no mist pots at all on them… really? you join for cm and refuse that additional dmg reduction bonus, that’s just sad.

About two grps so far I had that fail constantly before even 2nd orb phase on last boss, guess what majority of them not using any food or mist pots either. It gets to point where I have to swap to Rev for the perma prot so lazy pugs can finally get kill on boss.

PS I really dislike that ill have to give +33% dmg reduction to make up for a comparable amt of that u can get otherwise. So yeah u can see why I get stressed out abt this

About the Fractal Transit dialogue box.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

nagr.1593

I mean honestly the entire thing and the way it’s designed serves only as a break in immersion to me. It’s like putting ur foot down hard and strong-arming a brake at the last possible moment, it’s jarring and stultifying in equal measure. Imo it incentivizes ppl to prioritize their own needs over grp more then normal, they have a comparatively greater proclivity wherein to opt to disembark from the collective bandwagon and thereby go their separate ways at an inopportune moment, thus serving only to drive another inadvertent nail in the coffin that incentives the rest of the grp to disband.

So what option to not ‘break immersion’ as it been said before? Honestly it’s been remarked before maybe by me that yes it’s served in a very piecemeal fashion. The very word ‘fractal’ alludes to this stilted manner where u study it’s etymology and realize that it’s originally meant ‘broken or uneven’, thus staggered and jagged. But wherefore does it still have to retain that selfsame meaning? I mean I get that the theme matches the name but it doesn’t have to in all aspects. But so perhaps, imagine a transition between two separate and unrelated fractals that would not return everyone to square one in all case. You can interleaven the continuum that connects them like links in a chain by adding adding maybe a limbo-esque dimension, a middle ground that serves as a transitionary space. Like say being thrown into a vortex-like tunnel, where they have to navigate platforms amidst swirling chaos to get to the other side and reach the continuum. Basically an ‘out of the frying pan, into the fire’ sort of scenario. It could be a mini jumping puzzle as was alluded to, or something else entirely. Not more of the same, and that’s the point. So dunno but I personally have long-standing gripes about the transit system as already in place.

I dunno what’s the big deal abt masteries.. rest I can understand, like u say how masteries r useless.. I mean I been saying this a long time but no1 cares. Doubtful masteries are ever gonna be useful (majority-wise) but thats a sad truth. Tbh only reason I max my masteries in all track so I could buy gifts I need for craft legendary.. otherwise literally no reason. Like zero incentive at all. Exalted gathering..? Dunno, maybe if gathering anything was worth it.. but it’s not so y do I care it’s call exalted or even legendary gathering.. exactly cos I don’t wanna waste my time gather to make coppers

I mean leik the adventures I only have gold in like 1 or two (iirc), those just easy ones and I have silver at best in few other. Then I don’t even have eb jump puzzle so ye u can skip it who cares (not me)

But ther easier ones for jumping leik th e mushroom spelunker one.. think in td or somthin. So I suck at jump that, but I manage solo it anyway. Got my mes to map (not even elite), drop portal every unlikely jump and I end up just logging out on top of shroom near end.. then I log back and two portals later km at end. So ye not big deal it’s ez u approach like so

Ascended Accessories

in Players Helping Players

nagr.1593

Yes, I would not even take you into my group if you linked exotic accessiories. Ofc there are a few exceptions – such as needing to slot exotics with runes/stones, as that might be deemed acceptable by meta standards. Otherwise tho, generally should try to have majority of accessories (if not all) highlighted in pink. If not then you’re just being lazy imo

Iirc the last time it was still the same – accessories give u more benefit statwise than armor. As well, that’s not to mention how easy they are to acquire. Fractal drops aside, there are many currency options for them aside from laurels. They are also much less of a dent in ur coffers as making other ascended gear would be. For example, each ascended piece of armor costs at least the 35g u mentioned to craft. So price shouldn’t be issue here

To put it more bluntly, ascended accessories and weps are generally a must have for others to consider u a competent and dependable player in the high-end stuff. You could even run exotic armor mayb for some content they wouldn’t mind overmuch. A combo with ascended armor and exo everything else however, would generally be frowned upon by most players

I fully 100% support ur mindset too. Like I say, don’t link LI if u don’t think ur proficient enough. You will do more harm than help and there will be consequence if u screw up and they find out. No group likes a liability in a team member. I mean tho u have to be realistic about it too. If you have relatively close LI, don’t hesitate to join cos u think ur not good enough.. you will be. At a certain point, say after get a couple kills on a boss, u might feel confident to test out unsafe waters. It’s entirely up to individual when they feel that they hit this point. But again, be realistic and do not overstretch yourself

Example, from 2 months of raiding I have only 40 LI since I spent first couple weeks practicing and learning bosses. But now I’ve got multiple kills on every boss, even matt. So sometimes I will test out the waters to push myself further, and it works out fine no problem. I join a 200+ LI group, get boss kill on first try, then leave. I’m most comfortable with lower LI reqs though.. 60-100 LI since they are most accepting, and will take couple LI less then they ask for. Be realistic about it.. for such groups it does not make sense to link full stack of LI, they will find it very suspicious that u don’t know simple mechanics.

Practice with regular or exp groups if you want, then once ur comfortable join LI or killproof groups. Be as honest as u can and try not to stretch the truth

Guild decorative items don't drop in raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: nagr.1593

nagr.1593

While that may be true, the fact is that it’s never explicitly stated anywhere. Whether it’s the official wiki or anywhere else in the internet, I couldn’t find a scrap of anything that stated this was the case.

Also your argument is flawed. The raid drops are not really classified as guild decorations but as trophies. Their only real use is either linking them in chat or upgrading them to guild decorations.

Also if it’s drop for guild decorations, it doesn’t make sense that being in guild doesn’t change anything. Even with max guilds they can not even drop for u. Yes u have to force yourself to actually rep a guild, even if it’s one u don’t believe in. That’s just silly imo

Also something I found out today.. I was right at least partly. The game won’t let u link that chat code if u don’t have the item in ur inv or ur personal storage or something. If you’ve never seen that item with ur own eyes, u can’t link the code in the wiki whenever u want. This is just confusing to me

So for instance today, I tried linking the wiki code for ribbon scrap in LA and in aerodome, I just flat out couldn’t. Game told me ‘cant link that in this location’. I got the ribbon my chrono, so me wanting to test something I logged in as war after this and still couldn’t link in chat. I could link in chrono perfectly, and I could likewise on war once I transferred it to bank and left it there. I’ve never experience this b4.. it’s completely new to me.

No news about this ever being the case, afaik not even in official amet news or something. Nothing that say, you need to represent some guild or another, not just be a part of that guild, for that item to drop in 1st place. Like this is just a ridiculous concept. Made even more ridiculous by players that specifically ask for these items as kill proofs. If _they_are not aware of this, then it’s a safe bet majority of player base was aware of that it not guaranteed drop either I.e. that these trophy items do not drop unless u fulfill a certain req. It’s just odd to me I never find any mention on this anywhere
