It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
Whats going on with major sigils of speed? 5 Days ago the price spiked up to nearly 1g after being steady around 8s for forever. I’ve heard that someone was trying to manipulate the price, had bought them all up, then slowly sold them back. But the market being how it is, it didn’t last long, and balanced out again. Any ideas?
I’ve been thinking about it, and I am leaning more towards Astral Projections on this. They couldn’t think of anything to make. They already had all the trinkets available through fractals, so they don’t have much to more left for crafting. My guess was they wanted to phase in ascended, but were also wanted to have ascended as rewards for fractals, as an incentive to do them. I guess it kinda backfired for them, because now all our trinkets can be gotten through running fractals and as pointed out, there are MANY players who already have multiple full sets, and there really is no incentive to bring Jeweler to 500 for ascended trinkets. Plus it is FAR more profitable to farm fractals for relics, and a chance for a drop, then it would be to craft the trinkets you wanted.
Farm cash, buy what you need. Lab farm atm is a very good farm spot, or maize farm if you can stomach it. Otherwise, do dungeons like crazy for the gold and tokens (which you then transform into gold).
You may also consider transforming laurels into t6 mats (1l = 3 random t6 mats), but only if you don’t have any other use for them; laurels are a very limited resource and some things can only be bought with them (ascended recipes), so be careful not to blow them away on t6 mats if you need them for something else.
While this may be the best, and fastest option, the only thing this does is increase the price of T6 on the TP. Which leads to more and more “outrage” that the in-game economy is horribly inflated. So unless you are planning on never buying T6 again, farming gold, and buying them might just be the way to go. But in the long run buying T6 in those quantities actually does more harm than good in the long run. So expect to see T6 prices continue to rise, and more threads about how awful this games inflation is…
I think it’s more of a pyschological thing. We call an item “rare”, meaning that there are VERY few of them available, but in fact there are actually thousands of them. But our brain sees the word “rare” and thinks that it’s a super special awesome item of awesomeness and glory, because it’s (by definition) “rare”. I think thats why such “rare” items have such an appeal.
But as far as items that can be “won” vs RNG drops is concerned. I feel that having a quest, even an epic journy filled with blood, sweat, and tears, to get Excalibur “feels” right, over killing a random weak goblin who happens to have it in his possession. BUT in an MMO world, everybody and their aged grandmother can do the quest and get Excalibur, thus lessening the value of the item. (At least in my mind). However, having RNG for items like Excalibur also make for some strange situations. How did that level 2 goblin get Excalibur? Why was he not using it to defend himself? If he did have the legendary Excalibur, why is he still hiding in a cave staring at the wall? Etc.
So the challenge to any game designer is to have rewards that “feel” rewarding, yet also have such items have value in game. (i.e usefullness, appearance, monetary, etc.) I believe there should be a healthy mix of the two. Have a quest where you are given a guarantee reward, and that reward is awesome, BUT also have a CHANCE to get something even better. But also not be too specific on the reward. What I mean is, instead of battling your way through the dragons horde of minions, and killing the dragon, you get “Super awesome shield of defend against EVERYTHING” (or as it’s called at my work, “An orange reflective vest”. Funny story, remind me later) You would get say a “Cool shield with some sparkly effects” but have a chance to ALSO get the first shield.
But thats just me…
For scales, try skritt in dry top or WvW…heavy bags with scales, and bones, and straight drops for scales and bones as well. Sell the bones you don’t need, and buy more scales
Whatever happened to Crystalline Ore and Crystalline Ingots? They are part of the ascended materials, there is a spot for them in the material collections tab, yet they never made it in game, as far as I can tell.
I’m thinking they were supposed to be part of ascended jewelry, but for whatever reason, ascended jewelry crafting was not made available with the rest of ascended crafting. I am just curious as to whether or not we will see these materials ever enter into the game, along with new ascended recipes. Any one know whats going on with these items?
To Salvage, or not to slavage? That is the question. Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous RNG, or to take up arms against a sea of buy orders, and by fufilling them, end them?
Wait a minute….
Lemark = Le Mark = The Mark = Mark Katzbach!!!!!
Dun Dun Duuuunnn!!!!
Finally a skin that isn’t a laser show! Is not made of light, fire, is not tacky and overdone! It looks menacing, it is rusty, it’s a beautiful tool for any sadistic butcher, me included. Thanks!
What kind of a person doesn’t like colors ? I mean I’m glad you finally got a weapon you like, but come on.
I am a person who doesn’t like colors :P
My personal sense of style is VERY simplistic and utilitarian. I prefer monochromatic themes that are simple and not flashy. This dagger fits that quite well for me
Ninja katana greats word = gem store , rusted overhyped weapon = in game acquired.
I’m glad they r releasing new in game weaps but for kitten sake can we get cool rewards that are attainable through gameplay? Ido if they’re acct bound jst make it rewarding pls.Define rewarding? I don’t know if you were invloved in the “Zomorros told me a secret” thread where this weapon was revealed, but trying to figure out the clues, and what items were needed to get the weapon was a ton of fun. Then actually getting the weapon was VERY rewarding.
I can see if you just read the completed recipe, and then made the weapon, you’d feel like it was unrewarding. However, different people have different views on what is rewarding. Some people love map completion, and find the rewards given to be good, thus making it worth it. Others, not so much.
In the end it all comes down to perception. And what you mean by “rewarding”.
Well ok, by your definition you felt rewarded by the experience of not even obtaining but discovering that new weap. Great! Exactly my point. Can we have such experiences “in game” because immersion is not really a thing in GW2 atm. My perception of rewarding is actually very similar to yours, perhaps if you look outside the box we could find common ground.
I would love to have more stuf like that in-game!! Even if the end result was a weapon and skin that was “Meh…” Because for me, it’s about the journey, not the destination. And again, about “cool rewards”, that is subjective. I found the dagger to be a “cool reward” for helping solve the puzzle and riddle behind it. But many people were just “meh…”
So maybe it’s just the idea of what rewarding is. Most people tend to value objects/items/currency as a reward, over the experience. To me, that doesn’t speak to an in-game problem as more of a modern society problem, as we are conditioned from a young age, to expect material “rewards” for the things we do, rather then knowing the simple pride of a job well done. Look at the artisian crafts from back in the day. Most of those things were done out of a sense of pride, accomplishment, a testiment to the crafts skill and vision. They were good quailty things that were made not only for beauty, but for use, and longevity. Now we don’t have those things. Our artisians now (i feel) don’t pour their soul into their work anymore, which is why such things stood out in the past. Such crafts are now a niche item, and no longer stand as a testiment to the artists skill, heart, and pride. There is a simple pride, honor, and sense of worth that comes from doing things yourself. But that is lost, because such things come from the process itself. But we, as a culture, no longer value the process but rather the end result. “I can do this much faster and cheaper if I just buy it, or hire someone to do it for me.” And that I feel is the root of the “rewarding” issue. Not that the item is terrible, but that we’ve lost sight of the process, lost sight of our pride, honor and self worth, and are only looking at the end result.
(ok I’m done preaching now :P)
Its a very ugly skin. Looks like its worth 1-3g at most.
Yeah, it doesn’t look like a very expensive weapon (but ugly is subjective) but I think it will remain around 60g simply due to the amount of Powerful bloods (100) used to craft it. Last I check on the TP is was about 70g, and when I bought the bloods to make it I spent 63g. So I don’t think it’ll go much lower then that.

It looks like a level one starter weapon.
This crappy weapon had too much hype for just a rusty hedge trimmer. Really, after all that I expected a beautiful piece of digital art. Instead, we were “rewarded” with something that was clearly taken from a dilapidated, long forgotten, hardware store.
And thats what makes it awesome!!
I like the “nitty gritty” look. It’s like something you see in an old horror flick, and I feel deserves the name “Reaper of Souls”
arent the daggers held backwards when used by necros?
i have a bad feeling about this. kind of expect that you end up stabbing your enemy with the blunt end of the weapon.
Yeah, that seems to be the case, however as a skin (and the name) I really like it on my necro. Also, I don’t know about you, but I’m not watching my weapons when I’m in a fight to see their attack animations :P so I don’t really notice it.
…
2: The prices of Powerful Blood and the selling price of the complete item is completly based on supply and demand and not something ArenaNet sets,
right?Except Anet does pretty much set it though, by controlling the drop rate
That’s not how that works. Powerful Blood is only worth what people will pay for it. Even if it is a rare drop, if nobody will buy it, then the price on the trade post will be low. Supply and demand, that’s how that works. If supply is low but demand is low, prices tend to drop low. If supply is low but demand is high, that’s when the money rolls in.
For things like Powerful Blood, the supply is fairly high, but the demand is even higher, which is the only reason the prices are as high as they are.
This. And that there are fewer farmers just farming the stuff to sell, as it’s not very profitable (in terms of gold/hour). If you ask anyone the best way to get any type of T6 the response is “farm dungeons and buy it off the TP”. Which only serves to increase prices, as it increases demand, and lowers supply.
John, please write an ending to the story of Lemark… of course, we know he gets it, but it feels so like a cliffhanger… maybe some surprise about why he wanted the reaper so desperately!
Lemark kicked in the door. “A WORM?!” he shouted, “NO… NO! A FREAKING 200 FOOT WORM!”
Zomorros was waiting for him, of course, a smirk on his smug face as he hovered at the end of the room. The whole place was lavishly decorated in a way that screamed wealth at anyone who entered. Zomorros wasn’t a being of subtlety… usually.
“My old friend,” Zomorros said lazily, his head tilted to one side as he examined Lemark’s battered appearance. “How are you? You don’t look so well, I’m sure I have something that can help that around here.”
“Save your gifts” Lemark spat, “I’ve no need for more chains”.
“Well, aren’t we dramatic today?” Zomorros replied with a smile as he continued to rummage through a chest of unorganized bottles.
Lemark began to walk deeper into the room. He rubbed a dirty hand across a tapestry that probably cost more than most Tyrians earned in their lifetime.
“I’ve come for what’s mine,” Lemark growled in what should have been an inaudible tone.
Zomorros turned with a scowl, all pretense of good humor evaporating. “There is a price for that”.
Lemark threw his pack across the room where it fell and slid into a wall beside Zomorros. The Djinn looked intently at the pack as it burst apart , the collected items hovering in air.
“No,” Zomorros almost sobbed, and Lemark was uncertain if it was a denial or disbelief.
“No,” Zomorros said again, more forcefully, “these are unacceptable!”
“They are not! The Contrac-”
“You do not want to hold the contract against me, child! This is mine and you cannot deserve it,” Zomorros said, visibly attempting to restrain his anger. “You don’t even know what it is.”
Lemark pulled a ratty parchment from his pocket and slammed it on the table in front of Zomorros. It glowed slightly in the Djinn’s presence.
Lemark put his hand on the parchment and stared directly into Zomorros’s eyes. “The contract,” he said slowly and precisely. The words echoed unnaturally around them.
A smile slowly transformed Zomorros’s features. The “skin” around his eyes tightened and his lips curled sadistically as looked up at Lemark from under his brow. “I am compelled,” Zomorros said slowly as a dagger bloomed from Lemark’s chest. The thief looked down in stunned disbelief. He legs went weak, but he caught himself with one arm on the table.
Lemark felt blood in his lungs; he held his breath and stood back up. Sheer stubbornness kept him on his feet as Zomorros moved in close.
Zomorros spoke softly, almost like a whisper, but every word was terribly clear and precise, “I never told you what this is”. He leaned in close enough that his face filled Lemark’s vision and wrapped his fingers around the hilt,
“It’s the reaper of souls.” He whispered as the dagger ripped free.
That….Was…..AWESOME!!!!!!
The whole story was great!! I would love to see something more like this in-game too!!! Maybe talk to a NPC, and they give hints and clues about what to do next….I love stuff like this!
Well done sir!! Well done! Thanks again!

D…d…d…destroyer scythe;)
Reaper of Souls
Bloodstone shard
100 Globs of Ectoplasm
Ancient staff haft
:)
I’m glad you guys liked it! You got the answer faster that I expected. That oasis clue would have taken me much longer.
That was very well done!!! My hats off to you sir!!
Looking forward to getting home to log in and make my Reaper of Souls!!!
What was the point of heritage?
To throw us off…and pretty sure it worked :P
Pretty sure that’s the right one
LOL He was waiting at the heart!!! Thats awesome!
And now watch as John drops another hint…:P
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reaper_of_Souls It’s true, look at the hint.
The only thing I can’t figure out is why would anyone want it…
Because it looks cool!!
I am totally making one tonight for my necro! It has Condi stats, and I think fits perfectly with a necro….thats just me though.Oh, I’ll be making one for my Thief — who also just so happens to be an Emissary of the Mad King…
I’m really glad that some people aren’t dissappointed. XD I thought you guys are going to crucify John. Personally, I like throwing stones…
Oh heck no!!
I had alot of fun trying to figure it out!!
It was great to see the forum community also pull together and toss out different ideas. We didn’t have too many haters (just the one) and people building off of each others ideas was awesome! The story/clue idea was amazing and I thought John put it together rather well. There were so many details that were red herrings, it was difficult to try to piece together the truth. I love a good puzzle, and John did an awesome job!
Thanks John!! You rock!!!

You know what would be funny?
If the Reaper of Souls was NOT the intended item, but rather has been there for forever, but no one had discovered it yet?
Except that there are 2 currently on the market and no one has bought :<
3 – maybe more by now.
But folks aren’t going to be buying it instantaneously. Except for impulse buyers.
I’ll be waiting for the price to settle as all the impulse sellers try selling it to impulse buyers.
That and not many people even know that it is available yet. I mean we JUST found out like 20 minutes ago…
That was fun, John. Let’s do this again sometime soon.
YES!!!! This whole thread was brilliant!!!

Also, “nothing about this place was ordinary” kinda makes me wonder….
Cessellia in SE Bloodtide at the heart is a Sylvari scientist developing potions for curing the animals. You have to mix the potions precisely to get certain effects. Also the Great Jungle Wurm event spawns a head nearby and they shriek.
Very interesting. And one of the items she sells is Rare Jungle Orchid. So, that just may be it, until we get another piece to the puzzle.
(Please John )
Yeah, still not seeing it, I do see the pistol whip skill actually going off, but in the first video, target was too far away, and in the second, the skill still went off, but target was behind you.
I’m sorry to say this, but actually having to explain everyone what a skill does is not the meaning of this thread.
Log in to GW2, grab S/P and read the skill. Thats about the basic information you need before replying to a thread like this.
I’ve been playing S/P since beta. And this bug gives a huge (unfair) advantage against opponents with easy acces to Immobilize. In fact, some new players might not even understand why they died while using PW while all the skill effects are flying around.
Its simple, PW failed.
I suppose it was too much to say that the sword attack doesn’t go off when using pistol whip and getting immobilized. Instead, its better just to say “watch the video and use the skill before replying like a noob”
Gotcha…
WAIT!!! Hold the Press!!!!
Precise and scientific…
Watchworks. Which is a reference to a mechanical watch (clock/timepiece) and needs to be VERY precise and is also VERY scientific in the manner that it works. Which could mean that a watchwork mechanism is required in some manner (i.e placing it in a door, giving it to an NPC who leads the way to a mini dungeon, etc.)
Of course, the table is at the Heart of Lion’s Arch, and then he turns south…
…to the WvW-gates where you fight not some giant monsters, but tremenduous Battles against other players!
“this journey wouldn’t end in a tremendous final battle. The ending would be more precise, more…scientific.”
Which means it’s NOT going to be a tremendous battle, but rather something precise and scientific.
My initial thoughts are that it is a component that came from the forge. But a forge component that must be used in some fashion whether in an event/jp/or given to an NPC…
Also south of LA is Bloodtide Coast, Sparkfly Fen, and Straits of Devestation….something in there perhaps?

PLAY ALL THE CLASSES!!!!!111
Seriously though, unless you are looking for top level play in any game mode (i.e. speed clears, top tier PvP/WvW) every class is viable and useful. While it’s true that some are better then others, every one brings something to the table (yes, even necros). You should be focusing on having fun, and playing what you want to play instead. You’ll live longer.
I am guessing this was posted before the patch notes, about now requiring 50% (in a 5 person group that is 3 votes required). But the OP wanted kicks only with an absolute majority. Well, 3 out of 5 is an absolute majority. In any event, I agree with those saying don’t join other groups, expecially those without clearly advertised requirments. Doing so, and not meeting the groups expectations will most certainly lead to getting kicked. (i.e. joining a zerker only group and not wearing zerker). As far as guild groups (groups with 2 or more guildies), it depends on the guild really. When I do dungeon runs with my guild and we bring a pug along we rarely kick, even if said pug is being a kittenhead.
I myself rarely get kicked. I’m not the greatest player ever, but I don’t join speed runs, or other groups looking for x,y,z. I almost always start my own “any welcome” groups, and actually do quite well. Good people most of the time, and smooth runs.
And the skin of the hunter was obtainable in PvP quite easily.
Yeah I figured that out, after I discovered I had the hunter skin in my wardrobe and thought I had salvaged a precursor :P
Apparently I had gotten the skin on a pvp rifle back in the day, before the wardrobe, and forgot about it.
So I’m still thinking: Eldritch Scroll, Mystic Coin, and Karka Shells.
But until we get another hint, and I can get a chance to log on, its still just speculation.
Yeah, still not seeing it, I do see the pistol whip skill actually going off, but in the first video, target was too far away, and in the second, the skill still went off, but target was behind you.
Gangnam Style: Because it would be awesome!!
Napoleons dance from Napoleon Dynamite: Sheer epicness!!!
Dub Step: Becuase I want to see an Asura have a seizure. :P
I don’t really consider new races or classes as content. If you commute 100 miles every day to work, would buying a car really add onto or change the experience? New skills could change up the current meta but in the end, people will go with what is optimal and it won’t be any different than now.
Unless it makes a new meta. They might add a class that one shots Tequatl, or one that gets one shotted by trash mobs. We can’t judge content that probably hasn’t even been thought of.
All it does is change the meta just like we often get when they do their balancing updates. It doesn’t really add anything.
So if they removed every class in the game except for Necromancers, would you argue that the game has the same amount of content?
That’s not what I was saying. Right now, everything we have works well with what we have in the game. Adding new skills, race, and/or classes will not add anything. All it does is change the meta or slap on a new appearance.
I still have to disagree. There will always be a meta, that’s a given with MMOs, but a new class could be far beyond a “new appearance”.
A new class will lead to more posts about how the new class is OP and needs to be nerfed, or all the other classes buffed to be on par with the new class, which leads to even more posts about how X class is OP and should be nerfed.
I can see why Anet is reluctant to introduce a new class. With all the current balance issues there are now with 8 classes, you’ll have even more headaches with 9 or more classes.
Aside from classes and balancing, I don’t feel that an expansion would actually change the way people think about the game. People are already QQing about how long of a break we’ve had in the living story (what 2 months?) and how in that time the game has grown stale, is boring, and there is nothing to do. Now add in expansion. YAY!! There is fun stuff to do again!! And you do it all in say 6-8 months, maybe a year. But now you have to wait another year, or more, for another expansion. At that point, you’ll have all the same people QQing about how long they have to wait for stuff, how stale/boring the game is, and that is basically dead because their group of friends got bored and stopped playing, how terribly unbalanced everything is, and that they need another expansion to bring new life into the game. Wash, rinse, and repeat.
I love they way they bring about content and story. The living story, with the frequent updates, is great! Granted we have a bit of a break going on, but thats ok. It gives us time to breath a bit, relax, explore, and have fun.
Just remember, the grass always apprears greener on the other side….
If I were to guess, it would be some form of levithan, or Krakken, to keep in with the theme of a deep sea terror.
Ok lets try something different….
One of the items can a) be bought from a merchant, b) is expensive, c) is “sinister…ghostly” d) “a bit too everyday” e) is “wierd to hold” f) fits into a cylindrical case g) “inspires rage” due to is connection to a people that are sensitive about their heritage. h) is something that Zommoros loves, i) Is something that can be “lost” or taken away.
Maybe these clues are not sequential, but the clues are tied in to each other.
So what is expensive, that we hold on to, but don’t like to as it just takes up inventory space, but don’t want to get rid of, zommoros loves, and is in a cylinder shape?
Mystic coins fit into that catagory, and I think we all can agree on that. Elonian Wine does seem to fit, but then it’s not something that is “everyday” and we really only get it when we need to. Eldritch Scrolls also fit, but don’t work in the same way. I would think minis….but he said that it doesn’t invlove minis. I am so perplexed….I love it!!!
edit: posted before I saw latest clue
(edited by pdavis.8031)
Ok so what scroll(s) are there that can be falsified? Or thought of as fake?
Lemark is carrying a cylindrical case, to protect whatever he was trying to steal. And this paticular item is something that was copied and faked, but now he has the original. I am thinking scroll of some sort, but the only other scroll item aside from scrolls of knowledge is the Ancient Scroll focus….
Or the first item might be the Eldtrich Scroll.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Eldritch_Scroll
It’s used to make pretty…‘spiritual’ weapons, I guess? It costs 50 skillpoints so it’s not that cheap.
Yeah, that seems to be the consenses. But for some reason it doesn’t seem to fit. But I could just be over tinfoiling it…
So that would mean we are with Eldritch Scroll(s) and Mystic coins. “Two blocks to go” could actually mean, as John said, that only 2 items have been hinted at/acquired and that he only has 2 more to get.
My bet is still on Elonian Wine though! It’s Zommoros’s favourite. It’s from Elona(heritage), it’s powerfull in high quantities…too many clues that fit imo.
That fits too…
so Eldritch Scroll and Mystic coins/Elonian Wine.
Whats getting me though, is that the item is “a bit too everyday” and “inspired rage” due to their sensitivity to their heritage. So I rule out Ascolonians, and Elonians, as both peoples tend to be very proud of their heritage, while being sensitive about it strongly implies something they are ashamed of, and don’t like to be reminded of it.

About the series of failures. This could imply it is an RNG item, maybe something from Orrian chests? Something that he paid alot for, from a merchant. Now he did state that he spent his last copper, but that doesn’t mean that it HAS to be coin. Maybe a turn of phrase indicating he spent all of <instert currency> in order to get it…

GRRRR!!!
I just want to know!!
As fun as this is, I can’t help but think that John is just laughing his bottom off at us :P
Productive week could refer to something able to be purchased from a laural vendor…
He didn’t have enough to buy the second item (laural item), so tried to steal it, but after a productive week, was able to get it. That and he now has mystic coins to use (as I think we can agree that mystic coins are what is being referenced as far as Zommoros’ favorite.
