The in-game tool is immediate whereas tickets take time. Go with the in-game report every time. It basically calls a GM to the location. You can’t see ‘em; but they’re there.

I hope I haven’t been followed to closely by invisible GMs… 0.0

Thanks for taking your time to clarify this, and reassure us that things are being done!! I really means alot!! You guys rock!

Updating drivers isn’t bad, but sometimes, especially with new drivers, not all the bugs are worked out and results in crashes and not working. That’s why they have the roll back option. I personally don’t generally update my drivers unless I have a reason to. Like an update for my card that included more support for GW2 specifically Thats just me though.

Also if it was a hardware issue it would give an error upon booting, and give a notification within windows as well. It also wouldnt work with other programs, and give the same error.

P.S.
Did the driver roll back work?

Its helpful to post what did or didnt work so others who have the same issues can get it resolved as well

And I’m not sure about the cost being recouped from this, unless you are selling what you make, selling whatever you loot, and picking up a bit of extra coin along the way.

What, you actually keep the stuff you get from a keyrun? Why? It’s only good for characters up till level 10. If I’m playing a character to actually level him, I’ll get the gear I need through playing the story anyway. No need for you to stash everything you loot, just because “one day” you might need it just for an alt. >.>

No, I salvage what I don’t need. I might keep an extra weapon or some gear (don’t like the sword starting out with warrior) if I find one along the way, and am doing consecutive runs. If I’m only doing 1 run, I won’t keep anything and salvage it all.

In Reddit, the defacto method of keyfarming since the patch has been to learn Cooking and level it up to 200, which gets you enough XP to get to level 10. It costs around 1.75 gold for the materials, and around ten minutes to do the cooking. The costs are mostly recouped from what you get by doing the keyrun.

There has even been a guide added to gw2crafts.net specifically for Cooking 1 – 200.

Yeah I saw that thread. Seemed interesting. But it did seem like too high of a cost for a key. And I’m not sure about the cost being recouped from this, unless you are selling what you make, selling whatever you loot, and picking up a bit of extra coin along the way. I’ll check it out though because I’m curious.

and just use your product key. (this is from microsoft so it’s not a pirated copy or anything)

After burning it, you should be able to do a system repair if you boot from the CD, or re-install as needed.

Also for a system restore try this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

P.S.
If the roll back works, it’s still be a good idea to have the discs on hand just in case something really bad happens later down the road

Maybe have a check box upon creating a guild that denotes the guild a personal storage area or something.

That would be kind of cool. Maybe let it have the ability to switch sigils on the fly as well as stats. Of course any stacks would be lost upon switch with any stacking sigils. But it would be cool. OOOOO maybe with a sigil “locker”. So you can only switch to sigils that you have previously unlocked, instead of having immediate access to all of them.

I’ve been doing grove and rata sum completion, then grabbing the first few hearts in rata sum and queensdale- not too troublesome, takes a bit longer but I also get 2 transmutation charges (which I use a lot of). For this I usually run warrior instead of the old guardian meta because I can use sword #2 to traverse cities right out of the tutorial level, instead of waiting for the #3 skills on gs and staff

Nice! I’ll have too look into this. About how long do you estimate per run?

I wouldn’t say “Dead”. But definitly changed. It nows takes quite a bit longer, due to having to level up to 10 just to be able to do it. People have been looking into crafting to level up, but that costs money, and just isn’t worth it for the time it takes to get the key. I’m still waiting for a “power leveling” guide to get to 10. I’m sure it’s being worked on, if not completed by now.

Is Phalanx Strength Viable?

in Warrior

I run it and love. Yet it is circumstantial at best. In a pug dungeon run, almost always. But I will reconsider if I see an ele, then end up running it anyway, because I see they have a staff :P I often get more full signet warrior than I ever care to see, so will run it then. As far as a loss in DPS? I feel that the stacks of might make up for whatever DPS I may have lost when traiting for PS

You don’t get the extra PS stacks, only your allies, so it really depends on team DPS and how much might they’re getting without you. If your allies are getting 0 stacks without you, it’ll probably be worth it no matter how poorly specced they are, but if they’re already sitting at around 10-15 stacks with their own gear and skills, the gain is going to be pretty marginal or even negative after factoring your personal DPS loss.

True, I may not get full benefits, but I can get around 18 stacks for myself, and 20-23 stacks for the party. And that brings up my DPS to a little bit more than what I do normally.

No it doesn’t. You take a monstrous loss in personal DPS to provide the might to the others. Even if you’re in full berserker with either scholar or strength runes and full ascended, your personal DPS is so much lower that the gain from the might stacks that the party can get is relatively close to being offset…

Like, the pugs would have to be good for it to be worthwhile which makes it a totally redundant trait; if the pugs are good, they won’t require measures like this for partywide might :P

Better leave that job to the ele.

While I agree that good pug groups would be better of with an ele stacking might for the party, I don’t run speed runs, and generally run with a pug group that isn’t good. (maybe it’s just my luck). In any case it is circumstancial, and I don’t run it always.

However, just for kicks and giggles, this is what I generally run:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJAnXjMd09ZnHWewJagggycBEAR/1i+E0VGA-TVSGABA8AAMTPggq/MqSwEOBAEp84j9HmRJGWm4AA-w

If I’m doing a PS build I will run:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJARTjMd03ZtHWewJagjgyUAceC2gFIdPsDLPA-TVSGABA8AAEU9nRVCmwFAgIlHfs/AF6CmRJGWm4AA-w

With the stacks of might I can provide on myself, I have a bit more attack power then what I normally run. Of course DPS is greatly diminished without any stacks of might. And again, it’s circumstancial at best. Either way I like it.

Note that you need to move back and forth between the 3 zones (and do an event or 2 in each) so you don’t incur DR in your farming runs.

Frostgorge works also, but you need to zone out occasionally and do some events to clear DR.

Note that DR is NOT cleared by logging out and logging back in with the same character the next day….you MUST do some events in another zone.

Wow. I never knew that. Is this the same for WvW maps or is it just the PvE players who have gotten this undocumented nerf?

Also, with the New Player Experience now gating and explaining everything in the game to you from how to dodge to how to fight in the downed state, why is there not any indication in the game that you have reached these diminishing returns in a zone? Or that you have to do more than log out and back in again in order to clear them? I really think this information needs to be released in the game in some form rather than being a very quiet “undocumented feature”.

Thanks.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Diminishing_returns

We thought we should put in our 2 cents as well.

Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.

Some players have run into “diminishing returns” thresholds we put into the game to provide a safety net against unanticipated economy-breaking issues. We do have these thresholds in place, but it’s not our intention that normal players should ever run into them. We’ve recently had bugs and imbalances that have caused normal players to hit thresholds, and we’ll fix those.

These systems are put in place to protect the economy from botters and exploiters. We will close exploits as quickly as we can. These thresholds help create a safety net to keep the economy safe when we aren’t there to deal with the offender. It’s important to have a safety net in place. It would be bad for everyone if, for example, a group of players learned how to speed-clear a dungeon in 5 minutes, with full rewards each time, and then repeated that continuously. When one activity emerges that’s order of magnitudes more profitable than anything else in the game, it forces everyone to either engage in that activity or get priced out of the economy.

While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.

Initially we have to rely on smaller data sets, instinct and some guesswork to find the correct cutoff. What this means is that some players are going to bump into the edges of these systems for a while as we get them sorted out. Please bear with us while we gather more data and lower the safety net until it’s only providing critical economy protection. Looking at the numbers this morning, we believe some of the threshold systems are just too harsh empirically and we’ll be adjusting those systems within the next few weeks to ensure that fewer legitimate players are being impacted.

I hope this helps to explain why a game like this needs systems such as this to protect its economy. I also hope it gives some insight into our philosophy about botters (BAD) and exploiters (BAD) vs. farmers (GOOD). Thanks for your support and we will see you in game.
Jon

It’s documented. But as said, the details of it are not known, so that it is more difficult to circumvent it. The threshold for it is around 3 hours for events, but not really known for loot drops. Making it known in game will give the feeling that players can’t do certain things. Most players, playing normally, will never hit DR (with the exception of dungeons) so making an in game announcment about it will be kinda pointless.

Siege Troll Discussion

Doubt anyone will read this, but…

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP SUGGESTION VOTE SYSTEMS.

Yes, that required all caps. Any system that automates punishment based on votes is the first thing that will be abused by trolls. I can guarantee you someone will write a script to issue votes against people on a list (that can be read off a text file), pass it around a group of trolls, and instantly give a small group of people the ability to cripple every commander and competent player in a server with a press of a button.

Yes I agree. Having any type of voting system will lead to more trolls and griefers. Just look at the party kick vote system in dungeons. It never ends well. I know there are already systems in place that monitor how much supply is spent (achievements) and how many siege is built (achievements). I still think that having an background automated system that checks how much supply/siege was built by a player within X amount of time when said player/troll recieves Y amount of reports, will automatically issue a temp ban (Similar to the dishonored debuff in PvP) and flag that account. GMs can then examine the account, and take action as needed.

This allows trolls to be dealt with, and removed from play for 2 days, which gives GMs some time to examine the account. If a troll/griefer is indeed found a GM can issue a suspension or ban as needed, or remove debuff and allow to resume play.

No, voting by a bunch of trolls or players who don’t like a certain commander (we have one on our server that no one really cares for, and they’ll most certainly be voted off at the very first opportunity, they aren’t a troll they are just a terrible person) or voting on kicking someone they don’t like for whatever reason. A voting system will cause more damage then any siege troll can ever do.

Also having a commander siege type system, where only those in a squad, or a commander, can throw/build siege only hampers and limits those not in a squad or not a commander. I generally run with a small havoc group, and sometimes we will take a tower or keep. In order to do so, we would need to have a commander, or party up into a squad just to take the objective. But whats stopping a troll from tagging up and continue on doing what they do? Nothing really.

Siege Troll Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

Ok let me sum up, see if I’m getting this.

We are looking for a system/way to put and end to siege trolling without invloving massive GM presence, and extensive report verification.

What about some sort of automated backend system coupled with a report option of siege trolling/griefing/trolling? So if said troll is spending massive amounts of supply to build seige, and reports of this behavior are being made, the system checks and sees that X amount of supply has been spent by the troll within Y amount of time and compares this with the number of reports against them. The troll is then issued a temporary WvW/EotM ban until it can be reviewed and evaluated by a GM, and action taken accordingly.

Example: Troll is building 15 catapults in the middle of nowhere. They recieve 10 reports specifiying that they are trolling. The system checks and sees they spend 800 supply within the last 10 minutes. The system then issues a temp WvW/EotM banned and flags account for GM review. GM looks at account and activities, and issues an appropriate suspension/ban.

This way, legit defenders can build siege without worrying about being punished, people can repair without fear of reprisal. GMs don’t need to be called in until they see such a flag, and can take whatever measures are required.

2)$300 cash? In singles please. As much of a manly man that he is, he still strongly supports the local “single moms putting themselves through college” in the dance clubs at night.
3)Pizza toppings? No. He prefers his meat without the added bread, sauce and cheese thank you very much.

Refund character slots?

After the latest patch, with 23 characters, I have no enthusiasm to even touch the other 18 alts I have below Lv20-30. Would I get a refund for deleting the toons and leaving the slots open for Anet to reimburse the gems?
It probably sounds childish but I’m pretty much done with this game after the leveling nerf. :/

Wait, so you had 23 character slots, leveled 18 of them to level 30 at most, decided you didn’t like the update, deleted them, and now want a refund? Yeah not so much.
Even if it were possible to give refunds for account upgrades (such as character slots) they wouldn’t give one simply because (i’m assuming) these were all bought quite some time before the patch, were used as intended for quite awhile, and function exactly as they should. It’s like buying a car, deciding you don’t like it after 100,000 miles and want a refund or an exchange. Just not going to happen.

T6: farming vs. buying

They dont want us to farm because they have an anti-farm mechanic built into the game. Diminishing Returns.

Quite sad about this myself.

Yes, there is DR, but farming various mobs, in various places easily avoids this. Now it’s not exactly known how long before DR hits, but I’m pretty sure if you are farming the same spot and the same mobs for 3+ hours straight, you’ll probably hit DR. This doesn’t mean they are anti-farming. The whole system was put in place to stop bots and exploiters. You can still farm, and farm effectively, just don’t run around like a bot and you’ll be fine.

Totally new to the game, two quick Qs on WvW

Welcome to the game!!

First, for PvP it’s possible to do without a guild, even team PvP. However, in WvW it’s certainly VERY helpful to have a guild, expecially since you are new to it.

Also WvW is going to be very difficult for you are first, as you will be “upleveled” (unless you are already lvl 80). You won’t have access to full armor, traits, or skills. Your stats will be increased to match a level 80, but without the traits and skills, you’s still be very weak. Granted you can level up as you play WvW, and get your skills and traits, but it will take time. My suggestion is when starting WvW, find a guild that has a regular WvW group, and jump in with them. Try to start with a small havoc group until you can get familiar with the maps, and whats going on. You’ll occasionally get into small fights, where you can get used to what happening, rather then getting confused and lost in a large group of people.

For PvP: Start with hotjoin while you get used to your profession, and how it works, and how to play it. If you have PvPers in your guild, move up to tPvP with them. Learn to coordinate, and what to watch for from other professions.

All in all, have fun! Thats the important part. Take each defeat as an opportunity to learn and grow, and don’t get too discouraged. Good luck!

T6: farming vs. buying

in Players Helping Players

Every so often I see a post about aquiring T6 mats, generally for a legendary, and how the prices on the TP are steadily going upwards. In such threads, the general consensus seems to be “Just farm gold and buy them. It’s easier and faster”

I would contend that, while farming gold and buying them is indeed faster and easier, it only adds to the preception that the economy is over inflated, and ruining the game.

So why is farming often discouraged? As I see it, the benefits of farming are:
-It help to reduce the prices on the TP if you are selling them, as it increases supply.
-It adds more of a sense of accomplishment and progression when going for your legendary
-Provides a goal/focus for those who are feeling the game is getting stale.
-Encourages exploration to find the best spots for certain type of mats.

The benefits of buying them off the TP?
-It’s faster
-???

Of course there are the arguments that farming has been nerfed so much that it’s not worth it. While farming for t6 for my legendary, I found several spots that had great T6 drop rates (around 10/hour) often with no MF boosters. So I didn’t really notice a “nerf”. So why not farm? Yes, it’s a bit of work. Can it get boring? Not if you over do it. Farming for 5 hours straight can certainly get boring, so keep it in moderation.

Farmers are important, and needed, to help keep the costs of T6 in check.
So if you are getting bored with the game, tired of running dungeons/world bosses/etc. Why not start farming? Sell your T6 if you don’t need them, make some money, and help reduce the prices. You can gain a fair amount of gold fairly easily, and you may just find it as rewarding as running dungeons. Just a thought.

There are a myrid of ways to farm gold and just buy the T6 mats off the TP….farming them directly is much more time consuming (and frustrating).

If you farm gold to buy T6, all you do is just driving inflation prices up. Because the materials you are ultimately buying are farmed by other players.

In the end (as Brother Grimm said) you want to do both the frostgorge champ/event train and the cursed shore event/champ train. You will get champ bags and heavy bags that drop T6.

Make sure you alternate between the two zones to avoid the DR (that kicks in after you’ve killed around 300 mobs in a give zone).

Fixed for you.

Thanks for this one. I should not post when I’m getting sleepy.

LOL

Go to bed :P

Increased demand for an item, and the resulting increased price doesn’t mean it’s due to inflation.

In any event, I agree. While it is easier and faster to farm gold, and buy them, it will only serve to increase the price. But farming them, and selling them, will help bring prices down.

Returning player, how is the economy?

Depends on who you talk to. There are far too many that are convinced that the games economy is severely broken, and super inflated. Mostly because of precursor prices, and the gem exchange (which are not indicators of inflation at all). I feel that the economy is doing rather well, even though prices may be rising a bit, but these are generally rare, high demand items and the rising price is more of an indicator of that than anything else. I highly recommend check out this thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/I-have-a-question-about-the-economy/page/13#post4421737). John Smith, and others, have had some great insights into the economy and how it is working.

Which T6 do you need? All of them? Or just certain ones? I have several spots that are great for farming T6. Farmed most of what I needed, sold what I didn’t need and bought those I did.

Also you are looking for T6 farming spots, but don’t want the community to know? While I get that you fear a nerf, or people finding a way to exploit it, but it seems silly that you are publicly asking for farm locations, but don’t want a public answer :P

In any event If you make a list of what you need here, I’ll PM you my spots.
