I am seeing several posts about double WP costs? Where is this coming from? It isn’t mentioned ANYWHERE in the blogs about the megaserver. The only mention of WPs is that if it is contestable it will show up as contested until you arrive in the map. Am I missing something?

I rather like the idea this update. Standardized timers for world events makes alot of sense. Although some of the spawn times on the bigger ones means I won’t be able to do them everyday, but I never did anyway, as NO ONE on my server EVER did teq, or KQ, or 3 headed jungle wurm.

I have seen a bunch of discontent concerning dungeons, and WP contestation. It makes sense to do it that way. How are you supposed to know whats going on in a zone without being there? If you travel to a contested WP, you are automatically moved to the nearest uncontested WP at no additional charge as it is. I don’t think thats going to change.

Dungeons: You travel to the dungeon, dungeon is locked. ON EVERY INSTANCE OF THE MAP!!! The server creates AN EXACT COPY of the map for all the servers. You don’t need to guest to another server to see if the dungeon is unlocked or not. And if it is locked, there will be enough players around to do the event quickly and unlock it. Then said dungeon will be unlocked on all instances of the map.

It’s all laid out in the blog https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/

OOOO a new boss!!! TBD is the standard for To be determined. I could be wrong, but this makes the most sense to me. When the next living story kicks off, I’m sure we’ll find out what it is. Although there have been rumors floating around of a new Elder Dragon, which would make sense considering the ending of the last LS.

YES!! Order missions would be awesome! Initially, I was thinking that joining an order actually meant something OUTSIDE of the Personal Story, but sadly that is not the case. Yes, Order missions would be awesome! Activate them by speaking with the Order heads, much like in personal story, and getting Order specific rewards, like dungeon tokens, used for order gear, buffs, skinds, etc.

Edit: just had this thought. What about linking the Order dynamic events already in place to Order specific events for an special Order chest at the end? For example. In Orr, there are Vigil outposts that need to be defended. These events already happen on a regular schedule, but aside from a bit of karma and EXP, theres really no incentive to do them. Instead, after speaking to your Order rep, you are directed to go help defend the outpost, and upon successful completion you are granted an Order chest, similiar to the daily bonus chest you get from world bosses.

This will help encourage exploration and revisiting maps you’ve already completed, as well as helping your order, without requiring a major update on top of the April 15th patch. (Which I’m super excited about)

Love it!! However one that was missed was being able to view you mat collection WITHOUT having to go to a crafting station. You don’t need to be able to have access, but being able to view it would be awesome. I don’t like having to use a bank access item, travel to a crafting station, or access the hero menu, go down to crafting, and then search/scroll down to what ever I am looking for to find out how much I have and how much more I need. Being able to access if from the inventory screen would be awesome.

It may have already been brought up several times in this thread, but I am approaching the idea of the megaservers with a bit of trepidation. My main concern is the zerg. Will zones that have a train, become overwhelmed with a huge influx of players, a majority of which are only there for the train? For example, Blackgate is a 24/7 zerg server, and sometimes the zerg is so large keeping up with it is extremely difficult. So now imagine, instead of 50 people riding a train, you have 150 people in the same “instance” running the same train? Bosses, events, temples, etc. will now have at least twice as many people participating, resulting in the boss/event lasting half the time. In some cases, as it is now, when you hear about a boss/event being up, by the time you get there it’s 75% or more completed. Now with more people, unless you are tunnel vision focused on the zerg, and can WP/run fast, you won’t stand a chance to participate in the event. Thats how I see this playing out.

However, will there be an options menu where you can choose which play style you are interested in, and megaserver will send you to the appropiate map? For example: I am looking to farm, I pick farming from a list in the world selection screen, and it puts me in a map best suited for farming.

Just my thoughts on the matter. I love all the updates, but this one gives me a very uneasy feeling. I’m not saying it’s going to break the game, but will definetly change how things are done.

“There will be a limit of 10,000 daily and 5,000 monthly achievement points”

This confuses me greatly. I have a very few times gotten 10 points for daily, usually about 7 or 8. 10,000?

http://imgur.com/o3xVbiQ

is Total points mate, look at the picture for a reference.

It’s not total points. According to the blog post about it, it’s a cap of earning a max of 10,000 AP from just doing dailies, and 5,000 AP from just doing monthlies. So after you each the 10,000 Ap cap from doing daily activities, you won’t be able to earn APs from completing daily activities.

Also, PvE and PvP dailies and monthlies will be merged, and no longer seperate catagories.

Will there be an exodus with the update?

The only thing that I can see causing people to leave the game, is the town clothing issue.

That is something people spent a TON of real money on, and now it is being taken away from them. They were constant supporters of Anet, giving them more than a monthly fee every month so they could customize their look via the town clothing system, and now Anet is taking away all of that and their excuse is basically “oh well, deal with it”. And Anet won’t even let them have refunds either.

So yeah, the people that have been spending money on this game and supporting it, are royally getting the shaft with this update. So I could see them leaving (or at least never spending a dime again on this game).

I don’t see where the town clothes are being affected much at all. Yeah the basic ones will go away and be replaced by tonics. (I read default set you start with) but all the other outfits you bought though the gem store will still be available.

“Town Clothes sold through the gem store as outfits, such as the Pirate Captain’s Outfit, will be usable as a single outfit skin through the Wardrobe. Purchasing an outfit will unlock it for all characters on your account to use. Outfits will replace the look of equipped armors, are equipped in a separate appearance slot, and do not require Transmutation Charges to use. Single items, such as the Fuzzy Hats and Scarlet’s Spaulders, will be unlocked for your entire account and usable with any armor weight. Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.”

Count me among the people heading for the exits entirely because of the nature and timing of these changes… and I used to buy a lot of gems…

Would you care to expound on that? To me the nature of the changes is a way to bring more balance to the game, and encourage people to explore different aspects of the game as a whole. As far as the timing? I personally think the timing is great. We have a breather from the last LS, people are now getting back into doing what they enjoy without feeling pressured to play the new content.

I’ve been reading, and invloved in, several threads concerning the April Feature pack. Many people seem to really dislike some of the changes. Now I understand that many people come on to the forums to vent/complain, but with talking to my guildies, and others, more seem excited about the changes. I often see posts that a certain change will hurt players, and cause them to quit playing. But I find it hard to believe that many people after spending so much time, effort, and money into the game will just up and leave over something like a daily and monthly AP cap, or the upcoming changes to the traits.

How many people are considering ACTUALLY quitting because of this update? Or it is just blowing off steam and venting? Or threatening so that Anet will go with, or not go with, the changes they want to see?

Thoughts?

Seems like a weird decisions to make, discouraging your player base from playing your game. Especially as the only people who benefit from this are the 2 people who care about AP leader boards.

I still fail to see how putting a cap on how many APs you can earn from the daily and monthly catagories is going to discourage people from playing? I don’t know about you, but when I choose a game, I look at things like game play, graphics, shiney weapons and armor, and running around killing things. Most people, even established players, didn’t get GW2 because it had AP points, and chests to unlock after getting a certain amount of AP. Most of them, vet GW1 players, or retired WoW players, wanted a fun game to play. A new player won’t care about AP one wit, and even a GW2 vet won’t stop playing. They’ve invested far too much time and energy and money to quit over an AP cap.

There will always be people who whine about an update or patch, crying out that what ever new patch/update will “break the game” and people will quit and the company will go out of business, and then it gets implemented. People stay, no one leaves, and new people always come on board.

Because not everybody wants to play games they way you do. Get off your high horse.

No is saying they have to play the game the way I do, or in a specific way at all. I’m simply saying that an AP cap, although may be an irritation for some, isn’t really a game breaker and won’t cause anyone to quit playing because of it.

Consider the reasons you choose a game to play. I can safetly assume you don’t pick games based solely on achievment points. I would think there is a VERY small number of people who do. You, like everyone else, choose games you want to play because they are fun. I chose GW2 because I wanted an MMO that was fun. And I got what I wanted. Almost everyone has chosen to play this game for the same reasons. Those reasons won’t change because of an update/patch. People will still play because they are having fun. Period.

I can understand the account bound mats. However giving more recipies for bloodstone dust, for example, would be a much better idea. I am an ascended crafter, and have entirely way to much of the stuff. I don’t want to convert it to brick just yet as I need my obsidian shards for Dragonite ingots and empyreal stars. If I could throw in the MF and get some other, usable, dust I would be ok with that too.

How the heck do you have that many points from dailies? When I first saw this limit I thought no one would complain because it would take at least another year for anyone to reach the limit, and me two or three years.

Actually, forget that. Someone needs to tell me how I can look up how many APs I got from dailies/monthlies.

Hover the mouse over you current AP points inthe achievment tab, it breaks it down.

I don’t think anyone will lose AP. The cap, the way I see it, is designed to get people to do other things for AP then just grind dailies and monthlies. You’ll still be able to get as many AP as you could wish for, but after 10,000 AP from dailies, and 5,000 AP from monthlies, you’ll stop getting AP from those catagories. And 10,000 AP just from dailies is alot. considering how you only get 1 per catagory, about 10 a day if you do all of them. So that would take a little under 3 years to get 10,000 AP from just doing dailies EVERY DAY.

Taking away something doesn’t get other people to do other things. And some of us have done everything else.

Yeah you could get other AP, But new AP can often be completed well before the time limit. What if I was playing because I was being rewarded for what I enjoy instead of lets say farming 5,000 kills on a particular weapons or farming 5,000 of a enemy type… what happened to play how you want?

IE, what reward does someone have to play daily if they have completed a theoretical story 1 week before new content comes? Nothing if the cap is reached.

The theoretical “10 a day” argument is invalid…. there is well above this ammount that can be earned and are by alot of players. I am over 5,000 points daily, the reward for playing what I enjoy is effectively over in less than a year and a half. Taking away potential AP away from dedicated players effectively ends the game for them. There is no rational reason to want this unless your mentality doesn’t permit you to stop, which is a character flaw not a game design flaw.

What reason should a reward track that supposed to encourage regular play abruptly end? I can’t think of a good one.

I suppose it depends on why you are doing the dailies and monthlies? are you doing them just for AP? then this might seem like a hinderance, but if , like me and many others, do the dailies and monthlies not for AP, but for the chests, laurals etc. then the cap isn’t really an issue. I don’t see anyone quitting the game they’ve invested so much time and/or money into just because they no longer get a few AP from doing dailies. You’ll still get the rewards, but no AP after the cap. There are lots of ways of getting AP, and they might introduce more, so it’s not going to be a hinderance to get the AP chests, just might require a different strategy.

Also how are you getting more then 10 AP a day just from the daily catagories? not including PVP dailies?

I just go with the easy ones too, if I don’t have to go too far out of my way to get them. I like the cap. It’s an incentive to explore more, to run some dungeons, fractals, world bosses, JP’s, LS and more. It means you have to do more then grind. I’m all for that, I hate grinding.

I’m all for the 10% OVERALL damage reduction on zerk builds. Zerk are WAY OP, and if asking for any advice on a build the only answer was “zerk”. Always. I’m by no means a math guru, or fully understand what and how all the numbers work, I do know that the math doesn’t quite make sense. We also forget the new trait system. So 30pts in ferocity doesn’t really mean anything post patch, and we don’t know what traits are going to be available. We’ve only seen a few from the blog.

Yet, there will always be hardcore zerker only people who think that this is unfair and will whine about it.

I feel ya, I too would like to be able to salvage Karma and badge gear, but I understand why they don’t let you. It’s too easy to get, and salvaging them would flood the market with runes and sigils making them almost worthless, as well as flooding the market with the mats. However, that being said, you can put them in the mystic forge and salvage what comes out. Also I think that the upgrade extractor in the gem store might be what you are looking for. If all else fails, buy new runes/sigils from the TP.

Is it just me or is it past time for new zones to open up?

I would like to think that with the LS and the havoc that Scarlet wreaked upon the world that it would effect more then just the small area that we’ve seen so far. I mean a distruption of the Lay Lines would dramatically cause problems ALL OVER THE WORLD. But thats just me. I like the LS content that is being released, and the upcoming feature pack is exciting, but I feel like I’m confined in a box when it comes to the world. Southsun Cove was great, but now that the event is over the only reason to be there is the Karka event. No reason to explore there anymore, as it doesn’t count toward world completion (at least I don’t think it does as I had my world completion BEFORE the event so…).

Maybe opening up the bird people area (can’t remember their name), or opening up more of Orr, it’s hard to belive that the greatest nation ever was only 2 zones…

Anyone else for new zones, with new vistas, renown hearts, races and cultures? I’m not talking about a new zone for a temp event, then letting it die off because there is no reason to go there anymore like Southsun, but an active zone that gives a reason to go there.

It’s not an issue for players who have a big amount of gold. It very much is an issue for those who don’t have much.

You can travel across the world several times, never having to worry about losing a significat amount of money with 1g. And assuming you are traveling to a specific point to do something, like an event, or boss or something, you WILL make up the cost of traveling there plus a bit extra. You don’t need to have huge amounts of gold to be able to WP freely all over the world and back again.

Patch will again hurt players for Exploring

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

pdavis.8031

How will this hurt exploration? They removed the repair cost, stating that the time required to travel, and repair the armor and travel back, was to them enough of a punishment, along with the WP cost.

Armor still breaks, and still needs to be repaired. And it does take time, time you may not have in a timed event. And it’s possible that some armor repair stations may be removed, requiring a longer, and more costly travel time. Which would make sense to me, but of course its not mentioned in the blog.

As far as reducing WP costs. I don’t think would be a good idea. WP costs are one of the few, albiet small, gold sinks in the game. Reducing costs will lead to vendor and TP prices to go up accordingly to make up for it.

I like the end game content. With all the new content coming out every 2 weeks, there is ALWAYS something to do. There is also WvWvW and PvP, as well as awesome crafting opportunities. To say that this game is unfriendly to casual players in concern to end game is just not even remotely true. I’m a casual player and am just about finished with a complete set of ascended armor. Each piece takes about 2-3 weeks of playing a couple of hours a night. Less if I’m lucky.

I agree with OP on some points. Yes, things are expensive, and yes it takes a huge time investment in game to get the gold to buy the nice shiny things. However, that being said, it’s not a game flaw. The TP is basically a player driven economy. People are going to mark up the price when they are selling the “really good items”, thus causing the next person to sell it at that price, or higher, in order to get the current fair market price. It’s basic economics.

As far as crafting to 500 and spending 30g to get 40 points. You are doing it wrong. There are plenty of crafting guides that lay out which things to craft and which to avoid. Some things give much more EXP then others. I was able to get from 400-500 for less than that. If you are worried about cost of the mats, then farm them. Yes it can be tedious, but it’s a great way to make money as well as get those mats you need. Just sell all the mats you don’t need, and with the prices going nowhere but up, you’ll make a decent amount of money. But, just like IRL, you’ll have to work for it.

For those with lots of gold, they either spent real money for gems, and converted them, or play the trading post. There are forums and real time trackers of what each item is doing in the trading post , when and what to buy and when to sell. Just don’t expect to become rich being a casual player, and not willing to put in the work to get the gold.

I agree. As a Warrior, there is no reason to activate HS because the healing over time is better then the burst heal, and waiting for a cool down.

How about a complete restructure of the HS?
1. Remove passive healing and replace with VIT increase (like Signet of Fury and Signet of Might)
2. Activating signet grants a 15-20 sec regen buff instead of burst healing.

This, IMO, will still give people a reson to use the HS and activate it. It will grant a boost in overall health and provide healing as needed, but not so much as to be OP (i.e. passive healing as is, even with 8% reduction, is more then enough to negate any conditions)

That would be too easy as it would be like Troll Unguent. I would gladly take troll unguent + something that cleanses poison over HS if that would remove the “overpoweredness” of this skill.

so you’re thinking Regen + condition removal? not bad, but warrior has a bunch of condition removal already, both passive and through signets, stances ect. Perhaps something like Regen + Vigor or Protection. I’d lean more toward protection as thats one boon warrior lack. (except for Quick Breathing with a warhorn when removing Vulnerability).

The Edge of The Mists

in Living World

Why does EotM have to be WVW? As of now we have no idea how large the Mists actually are. The only Mists areas we’ve seen are WVW, Fractals, and PVP, and all these realms combined are still a small portion of how large the world is. Even if it does happen to be a WVW invasion, that would put a VERY interesting dynamic into it. Do the different worlds work together to stave off the invasion before going back to killing each other? Or does one world take advantage of the chaos to strike. In this case it would definetly draw more people into WVW, even on overflows. Either way I am excited to see whats going to happen. Anyway, LOVED the Scarlett story and the lack of information about her, it keeps you guessing as to whats going on with her, and am looking forward to see waht ANET is going to bring us next.
