To the 2nd part of your statement, there is nothing gained by irritating your customer base and I highly doubt that is their motivation, obviously someone there thinks this is the right way to handle things, I’m just here to loudly disagree with that method.

I’m not saying that it’s the right way to handle it, or even if thats what they are doing. I’m saying that we don’t know anything about whats going on, and complaining about it isn’t going to help move things along. It’s only going to make those complaining even more anxious and quicker to bash the company and rage quit because “promises were made but not fulfilled” instead of enjoying the content we DO have and eagerly awaiting the things coming down the road.

Sitting quiet is also not gonna move anything along, because they’re simply realize “Hey, it’s working! No problems here.”

And what content are you even referring to?

content? umm fractals, dungeons, world bosses, JP’s, WvW, PvP, map completion, crafting, basically the entire game. I know there hasn’t been anything NEW in awhile, and the Living Story doesn’t really count as “new”, although I enjoyed it.

I guess the main point im trying to make is, complaints do more harm than good. We’ve seen terrible nerfs, buffs, updates and patches that were rolled out that nobody like or wants because of complaints. Warriors are a good example. Warriors, in the beginning weren’t all that, people complained. They got a major buff. Then it was warriors are OP, so they got a nerf. But to stay on topic. The way I see it, the less the devs have to answer complaints, the more time they have to work on what they need to.

Back on topic: It sounds like your pulling some assumptions out of the air. You assume that the same people doing the legendary stuff are the same as those that did feature patch content (and they may have been, but no way to know). You also assume that they put all their development power into that one patch, and again maybe, but I doubt it. It may have been their focus, but I doubt everyone was dedicated to that.

This is no different than people saying they put all their development into LS, and it turns out that in fact all of their development wasn’t on LS. Several of the teams working on the feature pack items were/are completely separate from the LS teams. Additionally, they have/had people working on all the modifications for the China client (no small task).

You did say one thing that was absolutely true, we all assume, and we don’t have any other choice as they don’t give us any concrete information at all so there is nothing left but assumption.

And it’s fine to speculate, to an extent. It’s something entirely different to make remarks like they don’t keep their promises, they’ve done ‘no’ work on, etc etc.

You’re right, we don’t know. You’re also right that they aren’t talking to us, and this thread is an excellent example of why they aren’t talking to us. Colin tried telling us what projects they were working on. Tried giving us a tentative timeline as to when they planned to have it done. It was stated that it was not set in stone. It was stated that it could be pushed back or even scrapped depending on various things. As soon as the tentative deadline passed (even though Colin stated prior to the end of the year that they weren’t going to make that deadline, but the project wasn’t scrapped by any means) people start kittening that Anet did’t keep their promise when they did not promise anything. They were simply trying to be transparent in regards to projects being worked on.

I tend to agree. I can easily see why they don’t want to make any announcments or updates on many things. First, everything they say tends to be taken WAY out of context, and second, any responses that are made are met with severe critisism, mockery, and hostility. We don’t really know anything thats going on, we can only speculate, and then without proper information. The things that are planned will come out when it’s ready to come out. Whining and complaining won’t help it come out faster, if it was me on the dev team working on the precursers and legendaries, I would make sure to take my sweet time about it just to irritate those calling me a liar and useless….but thats just me.

I am assuming you need WvWvW rank 14 for the badges of honor. However, WvW and EotM isn’t the only way to get the badges. I have a WvW rank of 6 and was still able to get my badges for Gift of Battle (or which ever one it is.) I found it easier to get them through AP reward chests. I am terrible at WvW and PvP. Run a bunch of JP’s, get slayers, and whatever achievments you can. WvW JP’s also net badges. Dungeon achievments are easiest, and net you a bunch of gold in the process. It helps if you are going to run dungeons to get gold anyway. Under level fractals are the best for karma, as stated above, just don’t forget to pop a karma booster if you can about midway through the last boss for maximum karma.

As far as farming goes, good luck. Placing buy orders are the way to go. Although fractals do drop the T6 mats, but not enough to make it worth while. I’ve been saving up my T5 mats and promoting them, but it does take Crystalline dust, which you need for Gift of Magic, so thats up to you.

Also check the computer out for dust on the fan. Dust build up will cause the fan to run slower and not be as effective. And the loud sound you heard from the fan is not a good sign. If could be possible you need to replace the fan. If its new, it should still be under warranty. Just take it into your local repair center and have them look at it.

wotz best way to make karma/ob shards??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

I have found fractals to be a good source of Karma as well. I’m in the same position as you are. EotM CAN be a good source of karma, but even with all the boosters I was getting less in the same amount of time as one fractal run. That being said, you would need fractals past level 10, then run 10 levels below your personal reward level. I am at reward level 14, and run level 4 and with one karma boost (50% karma) along with what ever guild booster is on, I can get 10+k Karma PER RUN. You can also use the fractal relics to buy obsidian shards, getting at least 1 shard per run.

I didn’t much care for EotM, and thats why I don’t do it often. With a limited play schedule, I would rather get in a couple of fractal runs for 20k+ Karma, than spend that time in EotM, but thats just me.

My guess would be not possible. Anet doesn’t seem to like people modding GW2 reasons that are their own. As an alternative, play your own sound track in the background, and turn off GW2 music. Not perfect, but it’s an option.

[/sarcasm] Warriors are WAY to OP. Nerf them more and Buff everyone else 250% to just to match warrior! [/sarcasm]

Seriously though. It’s not that warriors are too OP, or too easy to play, or win by smahing their face repeatedly against the keyboard. Its that many people haven’t fully mastered their class. I agree that is largly the case.

LAst night I tried PvP with my warrior. Now, I am far from good, in fact calling me decent in PvP would be a stretch. The first match I took out a mesmer, a thief. They barely did anything to me, thief barely stealthed, and mesmer just tried to run away. Easy kills. Next match. 1v1 situation with a different mesmer. killed in 10 secs or less. later, 1v1 with thief, died even quicker. The latter knew what they were doing and did it effectively and well. If I was so OP and on a low learning curve, I would have at least lasted a bit longer, or possibly won those fights.

Like I said, I am far from a good warrior, but even so, getting facerolled by a mesmer, a good mesmer, show that it does take skill, and more then random button mashing.

Welcome to the game!!

Which character to play? Any and all of them. For mainly PvE, anything will do, some are better at some things then others of course, but there is no “trinity”. No specific DPS/Tank/Healer. All of the classes can do all of the things, of course some better than others. Pick one you think you’ll have fun with and go with it.

Servers: They basically are all the same. There are some who focus more on PvP and WvWvW, and others PvE and world bosses, some are roleplaying. There is no “official” difference between them. And with the megaserver roll out, the server really only effects WvWvW. Pick one that you feel comfortable with, generally in the same time zone/area as you and roll with it.

Guilds: Too many to list. Find one that fits your play style and what you want to do. You can join up to 5 currently so don’t worry about being stuck in one. Ask questions of recuiters and join some that fit well with you.

http://gw2.guildex.org/guilds/na
A list of guilds to kind of help you out. There are a bunch of them, and mostly tied to servers, but you don’t have to be on that server to join a specific guild.

Most of all, have fun!! Hope to see you in game!

P.S. I don’t know how up to date that list is…but it should help you get started at least.

Crit dmg nerf is not -10%

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

I haven’t noticed much on the damage nerf, crit and otherwise. But then I didn’t run a full zerk warrior. I’ve been using Valk since pre patch. My crits are still the same, and regular hit damage is still the same. Although I have noticed that the higher level zones are a bit harder. But not by much. I understood that this nerf effected full beserker the most, it wasn’t just crit damage, but OVERALL damage. That, to me, includes non-crit hits. I would assume that if you took the total damage done in a single encounter, post patch and pre patch, and calculated the difference, you would find a ~10% difference. Overall damage doesn’t necessarily mean the amount of damage PER hit, but the total amount of damage done in an encounter. At least thats how I see it working.

Anyone notice that regular hits might be hitting a little bit harder? While crit damage is lower, and regular hits higher, it should balance itself out over the entire course of an encounter. It’s difficult to calculate just how much total damage you are doing in one or 2 hits, and most people tend to just look at crit damage as to how much damage they are actually doing. Just a thought….

I rather like the living story thank you very much. However I do think that 2 weeks isn’t long enough. I felt it rushed the story too much, but nonetheless, kept things in the world moving and changing. Yes they could use the Living Story to open more zones, add a new profession, skills etc. I think thats where they were leaning with the new GM traits being unlock by certain events. I wouldn’t want an expansion, in the classical sense. It would kill whatever current stuff they had. There wouldn’t be any reason to stay in the current zones, because all the new shiney stuff is elsewhere.

Are you running dungeons? Or just the open world PvE?

I use Axe/Axe and Longbow for both dungeons AND open world and don’t seem to have any issues. My traits are generally 6/6/0/0/2, but I might change them up occasionaly depending on whats needed for a party.

I’m running valk gear, with eagle runes and intelligence and accuracy sigils.

Pretty much anything works for solo open world roaming. But dungeons/fractals require a bit more fine tuning. DPS builds are the most popular, but, IMO, it depends on what type of group you are in.

How do I get a refund for duplicate skins?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

From what I understood, refunds wouldn’t be forthcoming until May 12th at the earliest. I’m not sure if it only applies to the dyes, but my guess is that it would be for anything effected by the patch.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Customer-Support-and-the-Feature-Pack/first

“There seems to be a little confusion about why if items are in one’s purchase history, they haven’t been refunded automatically. And the simple answer is that with the volume of tickets, an agent has not been able to review that account history, and a review is required to process things properly.

As you can clearly see in this thread and amongst other comments, not every item that someone may have in duplicate is refundable. Therefore, our agents need to review each and every purchase history on each and every account, make sure the item is as described and that it qualifies for a refund, and then process that refund.

This is a painstaking process, but pains must be taken so that everyone gets that to which he or she is entitled and, it goes without saying, doesn’t end up with more than is appropriate.

It’s not something that can be done automatically, like “scan my account and give me XX gems.” One example of the reason each account requires individual review is because a player could have two of an item through a Gem Store purchase, an in-game reward, a drop, a gift, a trade, and so forth.

If we refunded Player A who purchased a set of skins and Player B, to whom those skins were gifted, we’d be reacting incorrectly. Doing that on a broad scale would have negative effects on the economy. Consider: If XX,XXX gems should be refunded, but through an erred process XXX,XXX,XXX gems are given, we get gem inflation, meaning each and every gems you possess is worth less. Definitely not something that any of us want, right?

I hope these details help answer the question that, in inelegant terms, might be expressed as, “Why is it taking so #*%^# long to get me mah stuffs!?”

Also from same thread. Hope it helps.

Is there a texture mod?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pdavis.8031

pdavis.8031

hmmm. It sounds like it wouldn’t be a texture mod, rather a model mod. I doubt Anet would EVER allow something like that as they don’t like to allow the use of ANY third party software with the game, with the exception of the overlays I’ve seen. but even then it’s not really a mod, as you have to play in windowed mode and it basically is a semi transparent window that always stays on top.

That being said, and not to down play or dismiss your friends phobia, but if they were to view it as a form of therapy, it might help them in the long run, rather then just taking the models away.

It depends. How fast are you trying to get your ectos? I am assuming you are using them for crafting purposes. If you are trying to hurry up and get whatever, than farming gold and buying them is the way to go. If you don’t mind, and are taking your sweet time, than just salvaging rares as they come up would be the better option.

There are not any build generators that are up to date following the patch. You can still use the “old” ones for now, the prinicple is still the same. Just factor that 1 trait point now is equal to 5 of the old ones, and crit damage % is now ferocity. 15 ferocity is equal to 1% crit damage. You’ll have to convert the numbers yourself, and ignore the new GM traits and you shouldn’t have a problem.

feel free to debate which one I am

Really? Nothing better to do, with no plans to better themselves as indivuals? and addicts? What about those who ARE working towards bettering themselves, and are NOT addicts, but enjoy a casual game to play as a way to relax and unwind? does killing stuff in this game feel rewarding?, will it be time well spent?

I find it so. Of course the random mobs, as in any MMO, are easy, unless you are jumped by 10 of them at the same time. I liked the boss fights though. The dragons are fun, IMO. It does give me a sense of enjoyment when taking down a GIANT FREAKING DRAGON!. Thats just me though. One of the biggest things about this game is that there is no subscription fee, so I don’t feel like I HAVE to play to get my moneys worth. I can step away for a few months, and come back and be right where I left off. Of course the world will have changed dramatically, with the Living Story and all, but that makes it seem more “alive” to me then having nothing change in a long absense.

“Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.” – Isaiah Cartwright

This from the wiki.
I noticed a BIG difference with having a higher magic find. Although anything below 100% isn’t very noticable. In any case, back on topic. Salvage or sell your blues and greens if you can’t use them. Also if you’re reading the forums looking for feedback on the game, to help make your decision, be warned. There is ALOT of negative feedback here, and alot of the bug issues being talked about are to due a massive patch recently. But there are still some permanent ones that haven’t changed. I’ve noticed that while the nodes have moved, they are still in the same general area as before. Yeah you might have to explore a little bit, but it’s not that bad. I’ve discovered some really cool places searching for nodes in Straights of Devastation. Help help! What am I supposed to do with all these extra dragonite, empyreal, and bloodstone!

For full ascended armor set you need 15 refined of each, correct?

So I currently have 9 alts that’s 135 of each…

And then you need 5 each per weapon. Suppose I gave each of my alts 3 weapons that’s another 135… so I guess I’ll need to bank about 270. What should I do with the rest? Craft ascended backpieces?

You also know that a full set of ascended armor will cost around 500-750 gold just for ONE character ? And that the pure increase in stats is maybe just around 1% compared to your total stats ?

I have btw. 12 characters and 10 of them have 1 or two ascended weapons, but only one has an ascended armor piece, and that was also just because of the look.

500-750 gold for a full set of ascended? I made mine for FAR less than that. If you are buying ALL the mats, and buying the damask bolts straight out instead of making them, then MAYBE…But I did mine for around 50. Total. Although I did farm most of it, and really only bought silk, and not all of it even then…

It doesn’t sound like the OP said he had full ascended for 9 alts…He’s saying he has 9 alts, and it would take 135 of each to MAKE full ascended for each alt. From what I got out of it he’s just calculating how much he would need, and doesn’t know what to do with the excess.

@OP
Hold on to it. Put it in the bank, guild bank, mules, etc. There isn’t much aside from weapons and armor to make right now, but we still haven’t seen jeweler go beyond 400, and it seems like ascended jewelery might become a thing at some point. If you really have that much and storage is an issue, refine it into vision crystals and lesser vision crystals. would save much more space than just keeping the ingots/stars, as thats what it’s only used for anyway at this point.

I would like to see more diversity of weapons. A polearm class, 2-H axes, close quarter weapons (i.e. dirk, knuckels, claws, etc.) and more ranged types, etc.

How many of you have 100% map completion?

3 Characters
1 level 80
and 1 100% map completion (my level 80)

I found it difficult to get motivated on an alt, and do map completion and leveling, as I’ve already been there, done that.

GW2 is the first, and will be the last F2P MMORPG I will ever play.

Basically because there is no subscription, whenever they review / look into new ideas for content with NC Soft they have to ask the question

“How is this going to make us revenue on the cash shop?”

for every single facet of the game. For instance you may not think about it, but why are legendary items BoE, when ascended is Account bound? Simple answer is making legendaries BoE generates more money via gem to gold conversions, and making ascended account bound does as well thanks to it forcing people to level crafts (crafting boosters and a good deal more real money to gold conversion). Then you have the wardrobe changes, which will have people using transmutation stones 10x more, black lion crap…. no new dungeons just new cash shop armor….

But in a sub based MMORPG, they ask this question.

“How can we make the game better month by month so people dont leave?”

The updates are based around making the game better / more fun to play so they don’t lose subs, not adding in cancerous crap tooled to make money off people.

F2P is not the future of MMO’s.

I thought they made legendaries account bound along with ascended? At least thats what I read in the blog…

I’m getting tired of people complaining about people complaining.

Wait, So your complaining about people complaining about people complaining?

My brain hurts trying to think about that.

The forums are mostly going to be people complaining. Thats the nature of forums. Those who don’t care and those happy with the changes and the way things work are GENERALLY not on the forums. They are happily in game doing things. So while it appears there is rampant discontent, the reality is, it’s a small fraction of the entire game population. You’ll find the complainers post multiple times in multiple threads, thus giving the appearance that there is a lot of traffic in those threads.

The salvaging tool and the gathering tools ARE account Bound. I regularly switch them between alts. These by far are the best things I’ve gotten from the gem store.

“Soon”…Such a misleading word. Heck, Jesus said he would return “soon”, it’s been ~3,000 years so….

I’m not holding my breath for anything new just yet. I would much rather them fix all the bugs and get it running smoothly again BEFORE releasing anything new.

LOL love the poem, it’s awe inspiring!.

I agree though, tried the hambow, didn’t much care for it. Tried GS/Rifle meta, didn’t much care for it either. It seems it’s easier to copy someone elses build/weapons sets and play style than to figure one out for yourself. Just my two cents…

My spvp build sw/sh+axe/axe

I like axe OH. If you are using beserkers might, dual wield, and dual wield agilty it can be awesome. Yeah axe 5 doesn’t do much DPS, BUT it recharges adrenaline FAST. after axe f1, then axe 5, I can refill my adrenaline before f1 CD. Axe 4 grants fury, so with FGJ, and SoR, with axe 4, you can pretty much have perma fury.

I haven’t done much sPvP, but the little PvP I have done with axe/axe has worked out great. just got to know the skill rotation and you’re good to go.

I found the dredge in the mine near the Iron Veil WP are a decent source of linen. They drop bags, which contain 1-3 scraps of linen per, and salvagable cloth. It’s a small area, lots of spawns, and a couple of events that pop regularly. I do most of my linen farming there.

Axe PvE build?

I use axe/axe. 6/6/0/0/2 works well for me, but I do change it up depending on situation, but keep axe/axe. Dual Wielding, Axe mastery, Beserserks might, dual wielding agility. The one that causes vuln on crit coupled with axe 2 and “on my mark” can easily keep 10-15 stacks of vuln. Throw in FGJ, and SoR and axe 4, and you can nearly perma fury. Axe F1 hits like a truck, then axe 5 to recharge adrenaline. I usually have andrenaline recharged before CD of F1. I am using full valk armor, with a mix of trinkets, but thats just me. Zerker gear is better for DPS though. But that parts up to you.

So what new Weapon we want?

Unarmed combat would be awesome too. With brass knuckles/claws. Would make more sense for a beserker anyway. But that would make it more like a monk, but still

Which one do you like the best? Thats the only way to really answer the question.
Each one brings something else to the table, and can be used effectively for different situations. There is no one class that is good at everything. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. It just depends on how you want to play, and what you want to accomplish.

Obsidian Shards and why megaservers are evil.

Yeah, never had an issue with getting shards at the temple. Now with mega server I’ve found it easier. Theres always a group of people doing the temple. So instead of guesting to another server, you just pop in mega server, if its open, great! If it’s underway, great! help out. If it’s closed, meh. go do something else and check back later…

You could always do fractals in the meantime for shards. Fractal relics can be used to purchase shards. So you can be getting shards, and more karma for more shards, by running a fractal or 2 in between Balthazar times. It’s a win/win.
