Do ALL the things!! Hearts, events, crafting, gathering, killing, jumping puzzles, rezzing NPCs and players, Pretty much everything gives exp, the only way you’re not getting exp is standing around, and even then you can still get exp…
Daily and monthly achievements also give a great amount of EXP.
Any of the achievments give exp. But most of all have fun!

Yeah been using my fractal relics for shards, its 15 for 1. Didn’t know about laurals for shards. Use banners and buffs whenever I can. I’ll have to start doing eotm as well. Thanks!

So im working on my legendary, and as you know, requires a lot of karma. So far ive mainly been doing lower level fractals than my personal reward level. (Currently reward lvl 14, and doing lvl 4 difficulty for 6720 karma, or something close to that) when using a karma booster I can net a little over 10k per run. Ive read over and over that WvWvW and Eotm is a good source of karma. For my obsidian stones, would running fractals, increasing the reward level and the lower difficulty to get more karma per lower level run, or those other methods be better? I haven’t done WvWvW much so I dont know the karma output.

Fractals offer Karma upon completion. The highest amount is given at 10 levels below your personal reward level starting at lvl 10. And it’s alot more that dungeons.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractal_Karma_Reward_Table

If you are trying to farm for karma for obsidian shards, Fractals are the way to go, as fractal relics can also be used to buy them.

Throw in a karma booster and you can get an easy 10k per run, not limited per day for karma.

Yes it’s worth going ascended. Although it is a slight increase of stats, it’s account bound and can be switch between toons. It’s required for higher level fractals, and it looks awesome.

The grind for it is a bit much, unless of course you are going to buy everything instead of grind for it like I did, but the feeling of satisfaction and completion makes it totally worth it.

Although any further stuff to put in the home instance would more than likely be bought through the gem store and not available elsewhere.

Where to begin. If you haven’t started playing yet, everything if FUBAR. its very little like the gw2 you knew. Not trolling. Megaservers adding a whole bunch of people to maps, most everything is bugged. Traits are totally different, and the wardrobe system has taken over. I would seriously consider delaying a week or three to let things dalm down and get fixed.

How come nobody can specifically describe what builds benefit from a nerf to Zerker build? They always speak of them vaguely, then when you take them to task they get defensive and deflect.

What builds benefit from a nerf to Zerker? How are they “more viable” now when the game play mechanics haven’t changed one iota?

Was anybody able to explain this? I’m so very ignorant of the topic. I do not understand what builds were made more viable? I thought this game was “no trinity”. So do healers benefit? Tank builds? Crowd control? Was defiance removed from the game or something? Please explain, I need specifics. Thanks.

No one can answer because there is no build that benefits from a beserker nerf. Zerker was nerfed, but little else was done to buff other builds. So the other builds operate pretty much the same, and zerk does slightly less DPS. That’s about it.

I guess it depends if you get gems in that node or not. Ive gotten 4 ticks in a regular node Using watchwork pick and finding gems. Pre patch. The way I understood it was there was only a certain amount of ore to be gained from each node. Rich or otherwise. Finding gems and such dont count, thus requiring extra ticks.

Edit: and by ticks I mean how many times is had to hit gather again.

Anyway back fo the topic at hand. Zerkers are not dead. Yeah they got a nerf, but even with the nerf they still are the highest DPS in the game. The nerf didnt balance them, it just made them slightly less powerful than before. The fact the were few other buffs/nerds to other classes, the imbalance is still way off, if that was their intent to issue the nerf to begin with.

@razor
Wow…just wow.
So instead of finding a new way to play, or a different runset/traits you’re going to be an elitist jerk? Its that attitude that drove me away from zerk to begin with. I think the prevailing attitude about the nerf is positive. Yeah its down from what it is, and we are still adjusting to ALL the changes. Good luck finding a party now that more people are TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS. I can almost guarantee you’ll spend more time looking for your ideal party than it would take to just get over yourself and do the kitten dungeon.

Yeah – nah.
You’re the one who’s in the wrong. The smart players have already figured out that zerker is going to be even more enforced from now on and are working towards getting it if they didn’t have it.

Other players that are " trying out new builds " might think they’re doing good but in all honesty they’re just trying to find new and inventive ways to get kicked.

As zerker does less damage now so too do other builds. If you want to spend as LITTLE time as possible in those dungeons be prepared to bring zerkers only, since anything else will just result in longer clear times.

Maybe..but not everyone is into speed runs. MANY people run the dungeons because they are fun. I like to occassionally do a complete dungeon clear when I can. It’s fun, which is the point of the game.

many people run berserker gear because its fun.
its fun to get punished for doing mistakes.
its fun to see big damage numbers.
its fun to become better at the game.
its fun to not afk-tank encounters.
its fun to be active all the time.

its fun, which is the point of the game.

and im not going to let scrubs who dont even understand the basics of the game take away my fun.

if you hate berserker gear, if berserker isnt your playstyle,
you are always free to make your own LFG groups and name them “lf tank/healer, faceroll and kill everything”.

just ignore the berserker lfgs.
we ignore your lfgs too.

if you ignored ours to begin with, anet wouldnt have made stupid changes to the game.

and guys please stop calling it “zerk” or “zerker”. it makes you look like you are kittened.

Let the ZERKERS have their fun. Nothing wrong with that. Im just saying dont be a jerk to those who decide to do something different. As ive said multiple time. I dont join zerker groups because I dont meet their needs/requirements. I dont kick those in an open group because they are beserkers. I dont insult them in parties and quit because they are beserkers. In game I generally leave them alone. But the opposite isnt always true.

P.s. I never cried for a nerf. I dont care that they are still the highest DPS. Its the attitude that goes with it that I dont like. Not the beserkers stats, gear, traits, etc.

Read my posts about it in this thread. Ive been saying it all along.

@ harper

Lets have a moment of silence for the zerk……

Ok now thats out of the way. Good riddance. Didn’t much care for the zerker “elitists” mentality that if you didn’t have zerk you were a horrible player and a bad person. Nothing wrong with zerk in and of itself, its just the mentality that bothered me and prompted me to go a different direction with my warrior pre patch.

Your mentality bothers me, Why do you care that I want to do speed runs and I want to play with players that like to also do speed runs, Its the way I want to play, I dont have to play with you and you dont have to play with me, if you want to play with tanks and condition players then you make YOUR OWN LFG and announce no Zerk elitist in the description.

And I will make my own LFG and say, Ping gear, Zerk only, then you know not to play with me.

I don’t care, and thats the point. What I do care about is getting flamed, kicked, insulted, and worse for not playing zerker. I get tired of people saying I’m a horrible player because I refuse to use zerk. Get tired of people saying the way I play is all in my head because I’m not atually doing anything, but “think” I am. And the group of people that think and act this way are largly Zerkers. And I’m not the only one in this boat.

You want to play your way. Fine please do, I won’t get in your way. But don’t hate on me because I want to do something different.

I understand player want to play differently and wouldnt make fun of them for that, but that doesnt stop me from trying to play with zerkers, Its not like I invited you and then told you to go zerk or go home, Im starting the search with, “Please zerk only” and if your a tank/condi and you join then yes you will be kick, not b.c your a tank/condi HONESTLY its b.c you DONT respect the other players wishes.

I don’t join “zerk only” groups. Never have, never will, because I don’t run zerk. Yet I have been kicked from groups that didn’t state they were looking for only zerk because I wasn’t zerk. I’ve started plently of “any welcome” groups, and been insulted and had players try to kick, or rage quit because it wasn’t a zerk party.

my issue isn’t anything pointed at zergers, if you want to focus on speed rather then fun then be my guess.
my issue is how ppl tread non-zergers, they are seen as useless junk under the excuse that they should not be there and simply don’t belong.
sure, there are “some” groups who play for fun but be honest, how many are actually playing for fun?

if ppl just keep their foul remarks to them self then finding a group isn’t so bothersome, the game is there to have fun and relax and that’s exactly what i am planning to do.

+100

I totally agree. Although it’s not so bad in game, it’s worse in the forums. Zerkers, typically, only care about DPS and themselves. Nothing else matters to them. Because to them DPS = money, and that is the whole of the game. Period. I tried to have a discussion as to why another build wasn’t viable, but no one wanted to hear it.

And to those who think that non-zerkers are only “pretending” to tank, do damage, whatever, and are not actually doing anything, really just need to get over yourselves and stop whining about how someone else plays. Because yes we are doing damage, yes we are using healing, and keeping people in the fight a little longer, among other things. There is no emote for swinging your weapon uselessly, or activing a skill etc.

A group of non zerkers can do a dungeon just as well as a zerker group. And guess what? The result is the same! Mobs die, boss gets killed, people get loot.

You’re not wrong that speed is important for dungeon runs, but another important distinction is that each zerker added makes it faster, so you dodge less. Less dodges = less chances of missing a dodge.

If you are the only zerker in your party, the fights will take longer, you will have to dodge more and your chance of missing a dodge increases significantly.

Don’t think of it as non-zerkers are slowing zerkers down. Non-zerkers increase the amount of risk involved in a run for those running zerker.

Of course. I’m not denying the benefits of zerker speed runs, I just chose to go another direction.

I am not sure about the maths, but to me it did appear to be faster. I haven’t run any calculations on it yet. But I has thinking, instead of timing the axe auto attack chain, why not just the first attack time, and compare traited vs. untraited? Or even time all three seperate attack in the chain, and then compare. I will agree there is an idle time between chain links, if you will, and trait wouldn’t account for those times.

Zerging mechanic nerf

There really is no way to stop the zerg. It’s a legit style of game play. Lot’s of people like running around with a large group. It’s a social thing more than anything. If you don’t play that way (I don’t, I generally solo roam) than you can always do something that falls more in line of your playstyle. For PvP find a no zerg match, or start one. However in PvE, they did scale up the bosses to counter zerging to some extent, but that only made them more interesting. Ran Melandru the other day with at least 50 people and got totally wiped 3 times. Pre patch could do it with 10 no problem.

Heck I’ve done it myself a time or two. What about those who are kicked for non zerker? Or leave because group is zerker only, and they don’t meet the requirements? They get punished and are forced to wait because they clicked the wrong group or didn’t understand what the intended course of action for the group was? It seems like you are saying “punish everyone because I had a bad experience and thats not fair.”

LFG lockout/Ragequitting reportability

This. Yes there are some people who rage quit over a dungeon. Others simply don’t have time. I myself have had to leave LFG groups in dungeons due to the fact I have to take care of my kid. I didn’t rage quit, but my family is more important that a dungeon run. Yes there are many RL situations where one has to leave a group, and all of them valid. Locking out or reporting a player because of is not ok. This is the same reason I quit playing MOBAs. If you were AFK for too long, you got kicked, if you left too many games within a certain time frame you got blocked for x amount of time. Implement a system like that would only lead to more “elitism” and we don’t need anymore of that crap.

The waypoint system isn’t broke. It’s doing exactly what its suppose to do.

“Waypoints—All contestable waypoints on any map you’re not currently playing in will always appear contested. When you arrive in the map, you will be able to travel to these waypoints pending their local status.” -https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-megaserver-system-world-bosses-and-events/

Yes, it’s kind of a pain. But it’s an additional gold sink to, so it does serve a purpose.
From a game stand point it does make sense though. Until you are actually in the area you shouldn’t automagically know which spots, outside of “protected zones” (i.e. cities, towns, forts, etc.), are safe to travel to.

Im running a warrior with full valk armor, ascended. Yes you read that correctly. Did a bunch of dungeons today, and guess what? Still doing the same amount of crit damage as before. Ran nearly the same traits 4/6/2/0/2. Maybe its just berserkers thats taking the brunt of the “nerf”, and are upset. No one else seems to care, or notice much at all.

Zerkers were always whiners anyway. That’s why I decided not to go zerker armor :P

There will always be those suckers who must have “The new ultra awesome weapon/armor skin of doom” and will be willing to pay real cash for it.

Nothing wrong with paying money for something you like! At least not any more wrong than paying $50 for a game that you might like.

Oh of course not. If you like it, buy it. Nothing wrong with that. In that regard the gem store served its purpose and helped FUND the game more and not just line the pockets of “the big bad evil Anet”.

I’ve been having the same issue. The dungeon completion chests haven’t been popping. The chests that also drop after the dungeon events haven’t been dropping either, as well as the Large chests at the end of the dungeons. Please help!

I’m not saying it will fail if you don’t buy gems. I’m saying that if there was no suplimental source of income (i.e. The gem store) it wouldn’t be able to to maintain it’s upkeep indefinetly. Does that mean you HAVE to buy gems? No. Does it mean that Anet is a greedy company for highlighting a suplimental source of income for the game? No. It means that Anet, like any other business, is in industry for one thing only. To make money. With this line of thought, that Anet is greedy because they are trying to make money, would mean by extension, that ANY business is greedy. Everyone from your local Mom and Pop convience store to multi million dollar corporations are greedy because they want to make money. But thats a whole other disccussion.

If you don’t like the gem store and the way it’s evolving. Don’t use it. There are plenty of others who will. And unless we can know for 100% certain the amount of money generated from gem store purchases and game purchases (input) vs. the costs and wages to keep the game running (output), there is no way to know for sure whether or not this is a “money grubbing” tactic.

Heres also something to think on. Maybe it’s not Anet that is greedy, but that those who think it’s greed motivated are just cheap?

Maybe read what I typed as well.
That GW1, you know, the game that didnt have an all encompassing focus on the gem store, did much better than GW2 does with banner buy now ads.
I would take expansion style take my sixty bucks ANYDAY over this gemstore pap.
When gemstore items out focus the content that is delivered then there is a problem.

I didn’t really get into GW1, so any such comparisons don’t mean much to me. Furthermore, GW1 IS NOT GW2. From what I understand, the only real connections those 2 games share, aside from the name, is the lore.

It’s been mentioned that every aspect of the game revolves around the gem store. I have yet to see that ANYWHERE. What aspects are being referred to? Even so, although the gem store may be “in your face” there is no other reason to use it other than cosmetic items. There will always be those suckers who must have “The new ultra awesome weapon/armor skin of doom” and will be willing to pay real cash for it. And in staying on topic with the OP, this does not make Anet greedy money grubbers. It means that people are suckers.

I would also have an OPTIONAL gem store than pop up banner ads any day of the week.

Yeah I get the same thing in large groups. I had to turn down my graphics settings to the lowest, reduce particle effects, and minimize the amount of character models to be able to see anything in a fight. Although it would be nice to turn off everything everyone else is doing except party members to have a bit more visability in those situations.

Yeah, to an extent. I have noticed more of a push toward the gem store. However, as a F2P game, it makes sense. I don’t see it as a “greedy business model”, but as a business, they NEED to make money to pay their employees, maintain the game, roll out new content, and ultimately increase their bottom line. Is that greedy? No. It’s how businesses work. You can only make so much money with straight game sales without having any additional income to support the product. MANY companies do this in one form or another.

If Anet didn’t do this, the game would ultimatley fail because they wouldn’t be able to defray the costs of upkeep. At least it’s not like many other “F2P” games where you can only progress so far then you have to pay to continue.

@Wryscher

That may have been their intent with level scaling in lower level zones. But it doesn’t work apparently. As a level 80 in a starter zone, you can 1-2 hit mobs and kill them, however in a level 80 zone…not so much. But thats besides the point. The point is removing leveling all together won’t work.

As people we, by nature, have a need for progression in one form or another. The more visible, the better. Thats why many RPG games, of all sorts, are so poplular. There needs to be a sense of accomplishment, otherwise there wouldn’t be anyone who would play them for long. But I digress. Removing leveling would take a MAJOR point of the game away leaving naught but a boring empty shell, and leave us questioning our existance.
