A level 80 has access to better gear and traits, so yes a level 80 can do more damage than a level 30. However I much prefer a skilled and cooperative level 30 in my party, than a self-centered level 80.

Yes GW1 missions were close to epic when you gathered a group of people to do it together. To me, GW2 personal stories have felt quite forgettable when compared to GW1 missions.

Therefore I suggest the following fixes for this encounter:
- Get rid of the 4-1 trick;

Not until she becomes sufficiently doable (by good groups) so that the 4-1 feature isn’t necessary.

My point was that the encounter should be fixed, so that good groups can do it without having to rely on this trick.

A better idea is to have her lose 2% HP whenever a spark is trapped.

I’m fine with that idea too.

Perhaps this encounter was intended to be about mastering sparks mechanics, but as it is right now, it favors much more bringing high DPS than mastering sparks. Therefore I suggest the following fixes for this encounter:
- Get rid of the 4-1 trick;
- Make Simin lose a bit of health when the sparks are put in place. The amount of health lost would depend of how fast sparks are put in place. Example:
– Perfect sparks run -> Simin loses 10% health;
– Slow sparks run -> Simin loses 1% (or even 0%) health.

Back to the topic, what is the point of buying out Dungeon Master title? As far as I know the only reward you get is the self-satisfaction of knowing that you’re able to conquer every dungeon. But if you can just buy the title out, then it’s completely pointless and might as well not even exist.

I feel that mini-dungeons are currently underexplored. I haven’t seen anyone forming parties to do them, and probably most people don’t even know they exist.
I wish more was done to incentive players to go out and do mini-dungeons (like being part of the Monthly Achievement).

You do not need a mesmer timewarp bot to kill Simin. There, I’ve said it.


You do need at least one warrior. MF exotics and level 15 accessories will do.

Here’s the story:
Guy shouts on map chat that he needs 3 more for Simin, me and 2 from my guild join (2x necro and guardian), the party had 2 other guardians, so total setup: 3x guardian, 2x necro.

Both me and the other necro were pure condition damage (condi/toughness/precision all the way).

We got Simin twice to 5% HP and realized we lack some burst near the end, I swapped to thief, we killed Simin. Only 2 glass cannons in the whole group upon completion (my thief and one guardian).

So the story about mesmers and warriors is complete nonsense.

I had the exact same experience a few weeks ago. 3 guardians and 2 necros and we were struggling to bring her past 20%. One necro switched to a thief and we brought Simin down.

CoF Path 2 "kiting event" strategy request

Last time I did this, I convinced my PuG to kill the spawns instead of kitting. We were doing good until around 85% when some players started to die. Those of us still standing, were able to kite the remaining 15% since there weren’t many mobs left.

It was the first time I did this path without an armor repair bill.

I think it’s about not being able to insta-mail blueprints to the front lines; if you didn’t bring enough, someone has to actually traverse the distance, which takes time, and they can even be delayed if the enemy posts people in the middle of the path to cut their supply lines. Making them mailable would undermine strategy, which is the entire point of WvWvW.

Drop and pick up isn’t bad, because, #1, it doesn’t invalidate the physical space between the point of acquisition and the point of use, and #2, the enemy can come in and grab it if it’s done in the wrong place and the enemy is quick enough.

That makes sense. But they could make them account bound at least.

FotM (Fractals of the Mist) is unforgiving on player disconnections, and the solution so players may reconnect to their instance is still under way. Solely on this I would want to ask:

Why is Fractals of the Mist a part of Jan 2013’s monthly achievements?

My concerns exactly. If the fix for Fractals is not coming until the end of the month, they really should have left Fractals out of the Monthly Achievement.

Giving completion achievement only for doing >50% of dungeon would be a good way to go (DC’s/rejoining party shouldn’t screw it up).

Agreed, but I would actually put the requirement on 100%. If you want the achievement you should have to participate throughout the entire run. Otherwise you could have players switch in to do the hardest part for you and then you switch back and still get the achievement.

I did path 3 every day for 10 days (now on holidays) and sometime path 1 and 2 but I don’t really understand what you mean by that.

The fist phase is always the same : stack on each other to have an easier time killing the grubs.
But phase 2 and 3 depends on how you want to do it. You can try to melee the boss or you can be ranged. The players who is targeted can choose to kite or to fight the boss head on.
There are easier and less risky ways and harder but faster ways.

And even on phase one you could all go melee and dodge the grubs.

Tried it with every method on there, even the 4-1 method. AN just needs to fix their game so we don’t spend time trying to find ways around their mistakes.

Randall really needs to be fixed. I did path 4 today and these were the outcomes:

- On the first run, we purposely let Randall die before we engaged Lupi. However this seems to glitch Lupi as he wouldn’t turn hostile. We had to restart.
- On the second run, Randall fed 3 grubs to Lupi, making the fight harder than it needed to be.

Good idea is to start fight with Randall and when he dies, reset the fight.

Yes, that seems like a good idea.

After failing multiple times, and spending hours and hours on this boss, I finally pulled it off today with a PuGs group. From my experience these are the keys to bring her down:
- Excellent sparks run
- DPS

Even if you made a perfect sparks run, your DPS needs to be at least high enough to counter the amount of health she regenerated, before she stealths again. So yeah this boss fight is all about DPS too. And the more DPS you have, the higher your chances of success.

Actually I would change the reward to be based on how many mobs and bosses you killed. This would give players less incentive to skip everything, and a sense of reward for the time they spent killing.

Braxxis is correct. The Golem boss is more of a “mini-boss” and it is by design that you fight him while the waves are coming.

Really ANet? Really?? I want you to show me how in the world you can fight a boss with 20+ silver mobs around you that kill you in 2 seconds!
I know we should just kill the boss very fast, but I don’t think it’s fun to have to run away because there are too many mobs you just CAN’T kill, no matter how good your party is.

Just because your group can’t it doesn’t mean its impossible. Our group does it in 15 min tops and sometimes we bring a pug for the ride.

True. I’ve done this with PuGs, so it’s pretty possible. We failed the first couple of tries, but then we learned from our mistakes and finally pulled it off. Our DPS wasn’t that great either, but we did a good job of killing some of the mobs (so we wouldn’t be overrun) and controlling the remaining.

Yes it can be very frustrating, but when you get the hang of it, it’s a quite enjoyable path.

Yes, as I’ve read through most of this and I didn’t see anything on the theory of there being an actual mechanic to the fight. No where on the internet discusses the theory of an actual intended mechanic to the fight. Only a brute force take down. Which is why I created a new thread. Because I still believe that those animations appearing around 1, 3, or 5 circles mean something be it with or without the interact button. So I would think this covers a different topic than I’ve found in that forum. But ty for your suggestion.

A great boss along with lupicus, you’re just not very clever or didn’t have enough dps.
1st time I did it took a while as well but we tried several tactics untill we found a 100% easy one.
We all dps’d her next to the wall near the sparks, when she went invis 2 people ran the sparks and 3 kept dps’ing her as she was invis and poisoning her as much as possible, she never actually healed while being stealthed, her health stayed the same, was a perfect tactic imo. Great boss no need to complain, not anets fault your team was incompetent.

This may have worked in the past but not now. She is totally invulnerable when she is invisible.

What I keep seeing, maybe it’s a bug, is that she goes invisible at exactly the same point on her health bar every time, whether we dps fast or slow. And that point is right around 50% health.

Which means, even with a good spark run, she’s healed notably over 50%. Granted she may have only 60-65% of her bar, but she’ll still go invisible right at the 50% mark again.

Is this normal behavior, or did we find a glitch in the encounter? I timed the cycles between her invisibile phases, and it could be anywhere from 45 sec to over 3 minutes, but she’d still enter the phase at exactly 50%, just like the first time she is encountered.

Same here. We tried to do it the “normal way”, by bringer her down to 50%, run the sparks while she regened, and dps her again. But no matter how little she regened, everytime we brought her down to 50%, she went invulnerable and started regening. It seemed that we were stuck in a 50% endless loop. Is this a bug?

The only way we managed to bring her health below 50% was using the 4-1 sparks method, but that seems like a workaround rather the normal way of doing it.

Could we please have a sub-forum for each dungeon? I’m finding it hard to pinpoint the threads specific to the dungeon I want, in the middle of the hundreds of dungeon threads mess. I suppose other people are having the same problem too, as I’m constantly seeing different threads being created to talk about the exact same topic.

And if possible, also split by specific path, like this:

Ascalonian Catacombs:
– General (path agnostic)
– Story
– Path 1
– Path 2
– Path 3

etc…

i ve done this weekend wich no problems at all, we have hard time to place the 5 sparks, however you need to keep doing it till you kill maybe you will need some practice at sparks and repeat the heal 5 or 6 times until you are able to kill him.
our group was, 1 suport guardia, 1 suport enginier, 1 tank warrior, 1 dps mesmer, and one dps thief.
there are some videos in youtube, where they kill simin just by doing the mechanic.

Then kindly post a link to those videos please. I’ve already searched youtube and haven’t seen any up-to-date video doing this boss in a legit way.

For those of you who are being able to kill Simin now, could you post a video please?

Stack tears in 1 spot, take simin to where the tears are and dps her down to 50%. She will go into the invisible phase, 1 person puts 4/5 sparks to statue, wait for her to heal to 100% until she appears again. dps her down to 50% again until she phases, put the 5th spark in and use your cds to burn her down.

That’s what I generally see when I do it with a group that doesn’t have the damage to do it the other way.

Already did that and we still failed. I’d like to see a video so I can see exactly what needs to be improved.

In my opinion this problem reinforces the fact that a rethinking is needed for the way servers are managed. I just did fotm level 1 and can do level 2 now.

There are 3 dungeon for level 1.

If I do level 2, do I just repeat the same 3 dungeon over again? and how many dungeon are there?

Another question is if I was doing fotm level 1, and only did 2 dungeon and leave the game. Can I just do 1 more dungeon next time and be on level 2?

For each fractal level you have to do 3 mini-dungeons. Additionally for even levels (lvl 2, lvl4, etc.) you also have to do a boss dungeon. So it’s actually 3 mini-dungeons for odd levels, 4 mini-dungeons for even levels.

If you leave a run before completing all the mini-dungeons required to move to the next level, you’ll have to restart.

It’s probably because someone started the instance in Explorable mode. You have to reset the party and go again. Sometimes it may be necessary to log out and log in again.

Did path 2 today for the first time, with PuGs. It wasn’t as hard or as long as I’ve heard here in the forums. It’s at least quicker than doing Arah. The golem bosses weren’t that hard either, you just need too be sure to kill them both at the same time.

As for path 1, I’ve managed do it with PuGs also, but only after many failed attempts.

Underflow servers could alleviate the problem, but I feel that a new take is needed to resolve the fundalmental flaws in the current server management system.
From what I’ve seen in the forum, players main concerns boil down to the following:

1) It’s desirable to have a reasonable amount of people in the map they’re on to shake away the feeling that they are out there alone, and so that there’s enough manpower to do dynamic events.
2) Too many people on the same map can also be undesirable, because of overcrowded events, lags, etc.
3) It should be easy to meet with friends in the map.

So what I propose is system similar to the one that exists in the outposts of Guild Wars 1:

When a player enters a map, let’s say Queendsalde, he is moved to Queensdale server #1. However if server #1 is already full, the player is moved instead to the highest populated alternative server that isn’t full (Queensdale #2, or #3, or #4, etc.). This takes care of concern 1), by guaranteeing that the player is moved to the highest populated server.
It would also be possible for a player to see which alternatives servers there were for the current map, and arbitrarily move between the ones that aren’t full. This caters for concern 2) by allowing a player to move to another server if he feels that the current one is too crowded, and also concern 3) by allowing the player to move to a server where he can meet his peers.

Note that with this system Home servers would no longer have any effect on PvE; they would only be relevant for WvW.

tl;dr
Home servers for WvW only. For PvE let the system automatically distribute players among servers.

I’ve run into this problem today when exploring Black Citadel with my human character. It’s specially annoying because if you use waypoints to get out, you have to pay.

Stop standing in Lions Arch trying to find groups. Go to the actual area and finding groups should be quite easy..

It’s not. Yesterday I couldn’t find a single player in Caledon Forest or in my guild to join me for a run of Twilight Arbor. It feels like 90% of the people doing dungeons at the moment are aiming at Fractals.
