I have only one set of armor and weapons. They provide well-rounded abilities. When I want to reconfigure my “build” I pay the 3.5 silver and change my skills around. It works out just fine in PvE, PvP, WvW, and dungeons. But hey! I am not a min\maxer or speed farmer or the like. I play to have fun and I don’t want to be bothered with “8 sets of armor”, etc. And yeah, the fact that there is no gear manager is a good thing as far as I am concerned.
As predicted by just about everyone, the Tequatl encounter has been abandoned by the community at large. The “improved” loot just doesn’t justify having to spend over an hour organizing an open world event with people who simply don’t listen, deliberately screw with the turrets, refuse to waypoint away (thus screwing it up for everyone else), refuse to do what they are told and have half the map AFK for the first half of a the fight then demand to be ressed.
LIES. I participate in a Tequatl kill or two EVERY NIGHT, with the TTS guild anyway. I find all that useless (for me anyway) green and blue loot breaks down into a lot of luck essences and besides, it’s just a plain ’ol fun event.
“Looking for more, VOA. 5k GearScore, link achievement! No more hunters”
Of all of you, only this guy put it in simple. A direct WoW quote to show the rotten dmg meter discrimination.
In my WoW time:
“LFM BWL, after hall 3 low dps kicked”GW2 in future:
“LFM ping gear, pre boss fights lowest dmg kicked from group”Bad already with:
“LFM 48 55ar guards only!!!!!11111”Scr3w damage meters.
Exactly. Absolutely, under no circumstances would I support damage meters or anything else that fuels the elitism, min\maxing, and speed farming mentality.
I don’t think levelling is meaningless at all; I think character development is critical; in the same vein as dying clothes or otherwise changing appearances. The best levelling games are those that allow you some control over the direction your levelling takes, e.g., Skyrim and related games.
Please convince me why I should not just use the most efficient group in the game. The trinity is not dead, just back in a different form. Why should I waste my time with subpar classes in Dungeons and Fractals? The faster I do dungeons the more loot I get the less time I have to spend grinding towards the next piece of ascended gear / my legendary.
What does something like a Condition Necromancer or Flamethrower Engineer or D/D Thief bring to my party besides a lack of clear time?
You already answered your own question. Because you play for the loot, and the faster you can obtain said loot the better.
I play a thief because it’s fun, much more so than any of the other classes I’ve tried (all of them). I won’t argue with you re the merits of one class over another vis-a-vis the degree to which they contribute to speed looting or not. All that matters is that I (and others) have fun running the classes that they like to run. After all, in the end, once you have that great legendary or whatever, so what? It’s all about the journey, not the destination.

I am curious if I am alone in really loathing the underwater combat. I really hate it. For me it is just pure frustration. Not only do I find it much harder, I do not find it interesting at all.
I really hope they would do something about this is because I really avoid it unless I cannot, which is complete the map.
When the game first came out, I hated under water combat. Now I just dislike it. For a thief, the utility skills seem fubar. Like, there is no elite skill that can be used. Maybe that is true of all classes, I can’t remember.
YES! I am always losing track of the location of my mouse pointer. It is so frustrating. There are times when my character is just standing there getting beat on while I try to find my pointer.
I dislike LS as well. It feels like a chore and takes my limited time away from me to do other fun things, like leveling an alt. Since these other things take time, that is less time to do the LS and because the LS is time-gated there is a time trade off which I don’t like at all. If it was permanent content then I could do the LS in my own time but as it stands now I cannot. So I’ve stopped doing LS with the exception of Tequatl which I sometimes do with the TTS guild although that is winding down quickly.
If LS was filler to give the 80s something to do while waiting for an expansion, then ok I guess. But I still won’t participate much in LS.

I agree with you OP. It’s a totally messed up mentality. The dungeon opens up to you at level X so if you’re level is >= X then you should be able to do it. Unfortunately, previous MMOs have ingrained the idea of “speed runs” and “farming” and the like and there is no way to fix that.
I recently reached level 80 and I have not done even one dungeon. Read that again ANet. I have yet to do a dungeon and in great part it is because of the mentality mentioned by the OP.
Now, with the LFG tool things might be better. I admit I have not tried it yet.
I don’t think the game as a whole is alt unfriendly. But I do feel the Living World thing is a bit alt unfriendly. I feel the need to do every Living World event. Because they show up every couple of weeks I find I don’t have time to raise in level an alt because as a working person I don’t have the time and what time I do have is used in Living World and some minor things like dailies. Since I don’t like that feeling of dissonance I just reconcile myself to not doing many Living Worlds. I am not doing the current Living World event at all with my one and only lvl 80 character and instead am enjoying leveling my alt guardian. But that is a choice I had to make.
LOL! Well, that was a very short return. I’ll head back to SWTOR then.
There’s no way I’m living in this game, which is what I’ll have to do to get what I wanted. I’ll be back when the developers come to their senses.
That’s nonsense. I leveled a new character in the last three or four weeks to 80 (a thief), did all the hearts in the zones I went to, did some of the events, spent a little karma on items, did the Teq event about 7 times. I do the daily about half the time and I have not done even one dungeon. When I hit 80 I had just over 250k of karma and was able to buy all six exotic armour pieces all in one go (from one of the temples in Orr [when it wasn’t contested which sometimes seems like all the time]). Like I said above, I also have recently come back to the game after 10 months away. I only play a few hours during the work week because I have a job but on the weekends I did play a lot.
(edited by pdg.8462)
After a 10-month hiatus, I decided to come back to the game and start doing dailies again so I could complete my ‘Warden’ weapon set on my Sylvari and ended up with a ‘drop’ of karma rather than the jugs we used to get.
I’ve read they’ve nerfed the daily rewards, but how the hell do you amass enough karma these days to get anything worthwhile?
I also left the game for 10 months and recently returned. When I logged back in after that hiatus the system gave me all sorts of items right off the bat one of which was a humongous amount of karma. Didn’t you get that?
I don’t need quests to motivate me to go explore some cave like the OP needs. And I certainly don’t want something akin to the “quest log” as those tend to fill up quickly and I feel pressed to finish all those quests, even the ones that are no longer appropriate for my level; well, that’s just me.
What I would like to see are the sorts of quests that are the only way to get some cool item for your class, a new skill, advancement to the next skill level, etc. GW1 sort of did that with elite skills but those quests were self-defined: “Go to this place over here, hunt down this boss, and then claim the elite skill from its corpse”; those were fun.
No.
I think the content provided between an expansion and living story can be equal
Expansion = content all at once
Living Story = gradual progession of contentIn the end we get the same amount of content.
snip
I think that is faulty reasoning by equivalence.
Expansions, as I think most people use the term, introduce new areas, new classes, and often new races. Living Story does none of those things.
Living Story =/= Expansion
I don’t think the game needs expansions, but I do think expansions are desirable. One or two Living Story things between expansions seems quite reasonable to me.
I prefer the expansion model with perhaps one or maybe two “living world” type events thrown in between to keep our appetites whetted.
Looks cool to me.
What Anet is saying by this new ascended armour is that you should all look like renaissance court jesters and like it.
That’s ridiculous to say when you have the option to transmute a look into a stat in the game.
Most of the people I know that have ascended weapons didn’t keep the look.
No, it’s not ridiculous. These are ASCENDED armours and are probably hard to make. A majority of people should not have to feel that the armours are so ugly that their only option is to transmute them at great cost.
What Anet is saying by this new ascended armour is that you should all look like renaissance court jesters and like it.
I am a proud TTS1 member. We are an organized, coordinated, optimistic group of players and that is what it takes to slay the beast. And yes, the name should stay the same; we must never forget our roots.

I came to this game so I could get away from achievements and grinding.
Then don’t. I don’t go for any achievements either and I don’t feel like I am missing anything.
I’ve got nothing but greens after 4 killings of Teq. One of those greens I could actually use for my character’s class; was a minor upgrade. The title awarded for doing all of the Teq achievements is worth more than the actual loot.
The in-game music. It’s the same music as was in GW1 and I like to reminisce.
Oh, please add me!!!!!!!!! I’m at work so can’t do it now. Shouldn’t even be on this web page.
Personally, I think the same dragon should attack in more than one zone and occur randomly both in time and location (to foil the people who watch timers and such).
The problem is not overflows. The problem is organizing people, the trolls, the AFKers. These problems exist on main servers as well. End this fallacious meme.
I would be happy with just an awesome title.

Even I, as someone with plenty of time to play find Dailies to be a huge PITA, that constant nagging of “you have to log on now if you don’t want to lose progress” is a bad feeling.
snip
I stopped playing this game for like 10 months. So that’s roughly 300 dailies that I missed. Have I “lost progress”? I don’t feel like I have.
IOW, if you think dailies are a PITA (I do too), don’t do them.
This isn’t a race.
I guess, from what I’ve heard, that Ranger is the worst PvE class? IDK, I’m a sucker for pet classes and ranged attacks. I love rangers. Also enjoying the thief, switching back and forth between dual pistols and double daggers.
Ha ha me too! Love the DD, PP thief builds (except for that dual shot skill, the burst damage one, competes for initiative with all the other skills really hard, so don’t use the other skills so much).
But I saw my daughter playing a mesmer and mesmers have phasors. PHASORS! Is that awesome or what? SO I am going to try out a mesmer soon.
Once I finally noticed the LFG Tool was active on my account, I was excited to say the least. FINALLY could I with ease find groups to participate in dungeons with. Within 60 seconds I had found a group and had begun. It was smooth, accessible and clear. But of course the first experience was a horribly abusive player and frankly :
I’m sick to death of it Anet and its ruining the gaming experience. My first experience was an individual who referred to the rest of the party as " brain lacking" and " egotistical kitten". ( Of which I have screen shots of)
Now, I am a thick skinned person I can’t understand why everytime I ‘report’ a person for verbal abuse NOTHING is done about it- Frankly its putting me off playing the game altogether.
So whats the point of having the button ? Allowing people to go unpunished especially making such inappropriate comments -I know Anet wouldn’t support these views but clearly aren’t about banning players who abuse it.
Such behaviour is not allowed on these forums; why are they in the game?
They are testing on us obviously.
A PTR system is way above their income apparently.
That would be the Agile thing to do.
People have been saying p/p needs work from since the beginning, don’t expect them to do anything about it in this century.
Comments like this really bum me out. Not because I disagree but because I fear they are true. I came back to GW2 after an eight month hiatus and I’ve noticed a lot of the same skill point givers are still broken and such. Makes me think all ANet does is create new world events and ignore their bug backlog.
So the point of this post is to stifle discussion of flaws in the game? We surely do live in an era of rampant political correctness.
The fact is that most people only bother to write something up and post it to the forums when they feel there is something broken about the game and they only do that because they care about the game. Hopefully it is done in a constructive manner but unfortunately that is not always the case. But in this case I feel like this post is some weird attempt to “balance out” critical posts with happy talk posts.

Thieves uniquely have Initiative, which means they uniquely have direct resource competition with their 2-5 weapon skills. The only way that can function well is if the primary damage skill is the auto-attack and the 2-5 skills are more tactical/situational/utilitarian.Doing it any other way means that whatever the primary damage skill is (in this case Unload) is going to consistently out-compete the other skills and leave them in a much less usable state than they should be because in order to use them you have to siphon resources you need to keep damaging your target.
That’s why people complain about P/P having such poor utility and mobility – it isn’t because it has poor utility and mobility, it’s because you can’t make proper use of what it does have without sacrificing your DPS more than is necessary on any other weapon set in the game.
This is exactly spot on imo. I find I have so little initiative left after using my most effective P/P attack that the other skills might as well not be there; I can rarely use them.
snip
Unload is uniquely among all sets totally superior to Vital Shot, and that single-handedly breaks P/P by forcing you to choose at all times between maintaining DPS or having any utility whatsoever.
snip
This^. That is exactly the problem I have been having trying to adjust to a thief coming from two other classes. I think the OP has a valid point.
Still bugged as of this post.

I mean that this company is full of wonderful developers, full of amazing ideas and talents from the industry. What this company is not is a good business. Clearly the director does not understand that as a company, success is defined by GROWTH, not SUSTAINABILITY.Yes, sure. Perhaps your current in game payment system can sustain your business. Pays for the office space, the devs salary, etc. But that’s not the point, is it? You should be aiming higher – more revenue – that allows for buying power. It allows for you to expand the company. Bring in more talents. More manpower means more content, faster.
Not really sure why you are such an expert on their buisness, but there is a game coming out soon for you: Elder Scrolls Online. You not only have to pay for the game, but there is a monthly subscription on top of it AND an in-game store where you can spend even more money. Sounds like what you are looking for.
I got a karma, a coin, and 50 pts of magic find essence. That’s it.
I share a deep platonic love for you Saviour. In difference to you I would sincerely like to tap the forum on the nose. Anet is listening to the majority of people who provide constructive critisism. Look up “Constructive critisism”, make sure you understand it, practise it, and you can finally expect to have your voice heard. Also PLEASE stop the friggin drama! No wonder they don’t listen to you when you all act like spoiled brats. No one ever listens to a spoiled brat, apart from their parents, and Anet is NOT your parent.
Don’t like the game? Quit. NO ONE CARES.
Nice post OP!
Re all the negativity in the above, and similar, quotes: my impression is that the negativity is true of many if not all game forums, not just GW2. I don’t think you were suggesting otherwise, but I just want it to be clear for what follows. I think a large percentage of gamers are kids who have, naturally, developed little emotional maturity possibly combined with an over developed sense of entitlement. They come here to act out. I can’t think of any way to prevent that and so it becomes incumbent on the rest of us to ignore them and, most importantly, not to engage with them unless what they post is constructive and worthy of other people’s time. This strategy is commonly referred to as “don’t feed the troll”.
I started playing GW2 at release and played through the Halloween event after which I promptly stopped playing. I stopped playing because there were just too many annoying things about the game and ANet seemed intransigent and unwilling to address them. However, I came back to the game three weeks ago and have been pleasantly surprised. The game is quite a bit more fun now and less annoying (but we still don’t have a LFG tool). I’ve been having a good time and think I will stick around. I’ve been getting the impression that there are too many events and I say that only because I get the feeling that the events are encouraging players away from the rest of the world, making dynamic events difficult to do solo. But I could be wrong as I’ve only been back in here for three weeks. Still have to repair and pay just to resurrect at a WP, but oh well.
But I digress, basically what I wanted to say was “Nice post OP and well done ANet! Things seem to be moving in a good direction!”
I’ve missed most of them. I just don’t care all that much.
Not me, I got mine to 80, decided I really wasn’t into it and shelved it. My first 80 as well sadly. I still dust him off occasionally.
Similar for me. I stopped playing my warr at level 75 when I got just too sick of it. That and the fact that I got sick of being the maverick dual-wielding axes when 99% of all warrs I saw running around were kitten -smacking with a GS.
The events are too much too fast, I agree. My “solution” has been to ignore the events for the most part. I hate not being able to get the new shinies and achievements but that is better than entering the rat race. The downside to ignoring the events for the most part is that there are so few people in the world to do the normal PvE events. So I end up trying to do them alone which sometimes works but usually doesn’t.
I do think the way ANet removed the trinity is well done and I do think getting rid of the trinity is a good thing or at least a refreshing change. As others said, the very limited first four skill set is restrictive and for some people makes things a bit boring. But I also think the way skills were done in GW1, as cool as it was, was so abused (think the 55 monk) that it left a scar on ANet’s collective psyche and so they remove the possibility of it happening in GW2.
I stopped playing GW2 after the last Halloween event because I really wasn’t enjoying it and was annoyed by a lot of things about the game. But I just came back, deleted some of my old characters, rolled a thief, and have been having a good time. But then I am not one of those people who just has to have the best items in the game and my farming style fits in nicely with ANet’s implemented philosophy about farming. I just cruze around joining events that happen to happen where I am, explore, do just a little harvesting, and just bumping around.
… This thread is not about how much better GW1 is, it’s about the one thing GW1 did that is still leagues above GW2: skills…
I agree with this 100%. It’s the no. one reason why I could not level past 75 before I got sick of the game and why I futz around in GW1 now while I wait for TESO.
I just got bored. I only PvE so my comments are restricted to that experience.
I stopped levelling my first character (a necro) around level 53 or so as it was plain to me that class is bugged. I then levelled a warrior to the mid 70s and just got bored and I got disappointed that there were fewer and fewer people around to do zone events. When I find the motivation I may bring it up to 80 but I am just not enthusiastic especially now that people are talking about the beginning of a gear grind.
I read these forums from time to time just to see what’s new.
Nope. I don’t agree with the OP at all. The biggest problems introduced into an already released MMO always seem to come from the vocal minority of players in forums. The latest upcoming changes to GW2 appear to not be an exception to the rule. Why would any company host a poll that might result in bad changes and be forced to respond with, to use the OP’s words, “you asked for it”? Anet would be better served if it didn’t read these forums at all; if it just stated as a matter of policy that anything said on these forums will not be used to guide game development.
