Sylvari1 to Sylvari2 on Valentines day: “Peas be my podner”
I use the default mouse/keyboard settings. Works just fine for me.

Should Anet have kept to their GW1 fan base and stuck with the Manifesto? I think yes.
Oh god, not the manifesto thing again. You need to check out this discussion; skip to page 6ish:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-happened-to-the-manifesto-2/page/6#post3465374

I’m sure the developers didn’t think so many players would hold them [“manifesto”] aloft like some kind of Ten Commandments instead of “here’s the outline of how we are going to make this game different”.Honestly, the Manifesto crowd is really starting to act as some kind of fringe sect declaring that they are the true believers while all others our heretics, repeatedly beating the rest of us over the heads with it.
snipIf you don’t like it, leave. If you wanted it to be like the original Guild Wars, that’s still up and running. Go back to it. I’m sorry that you felt deceived but most people either learn to accept or move on. Then don’t camp and bring up ancient history (in computer terms) thinking it’ll make a difference at best or dissuade others at worse. You are all acting like some ex who shows up on your dates to tell your new interest how terrible you are. It’s aggravating seeing this topic brought up week after week in one form or another.
Well said. Bravo!
The “manifesto” kiddies should end their tantrum which was based on make-believe anyway.

too much people who want even more grinding.
because the typical mmo-nerd says: “if i play more hours than you, i’ll have better equip than you…and if u want to be competitive, just play more”
that’s the golden rule of mmo world.
many people can’t play 200h only for a skin. they want a carrot on a stick.
or a gear treadmill. a concrete advantage over “n00bs” playing 2-3times a week.
snip
Ok, I LOLed.
If they are so much better (or at least, non-n00bs) then they don’t need the better gear.
My number 1 change is for GW2 is for it to be more like this game:
^These people know how to make an MMORPG, and THIS game is what GW2 wishes it could be when it grows up.
Wow. That video really makes you ask yourself “What happened?”
I ran through Straits of Devastation last night with a group of about 8 people, trying to figure out how to start the Eye of Zhaitan event. It was actually quite fun, and I went places I’ve never really been before. We got to do some events that nobody does, kill some epic bosses, use some really cool environmental weapons, and explore confusing catacombs. It made me realize how FUN this zone actual can be when you are not alone and getting roflstomped by risen at every turn. There is so much to do, so many places to go, so many events. The only problem is that the events that contest waypoints respawn about every 10 minutes. I got tired of killing the same Risen Acolyte Leader just so people could wp to my group.
The problem is too many people guide their gaming experience based on rewards. If it takes too long to do, or doesn’t drop a chest, they won’t do it. Never mind the fun…who plays games for fun anyways? It’s all about VIRTUAL PROFIT!
Yeah…
Unfortunately, fantasy computer games had their root in DnD, which for many was all about loot. This has been ingrained into MMO players for so long that it will be hard to get shut of.
I don’t think GW1 was about loot. Getting max stat gear was really easy. You worked to get the “skins” (they weren’t really skins) you wanted for the look you wanted or a really rare weapon (e.g., voltaic spear), but that was about it. No, for me the fun was soloing bosses on my 55 monk or with a pair of monks… speed runs. Basically, creative combinations of the skills to do incredible things. That game never got boring for me.
GW1 was my first MMO, I adored it, and as such it was (and is) the standard by which I judge all other MMOs. I despised WoW because of it and because GW2 is so much like standard MMOs in many respects it is the reason why I don’t much like GW2. Ironic that GW1 should make GW2 look so bad.
I haven’t played the original as well but from what I can assume on the forums, it seems like some people still play it but I’m guessing that it is only a small amount. You probably won’t be able to find groups of players to help you complete some dungeons but with the companion and hero system you can have NPC’s in your group to help you complete most of the content.
Not entirely accurate. There are still active guilds. The one I was in recently did a lot of faction rep farming and dungeon runs.
I play GW1 still from time to time. It is mostly a deadzone but people tend to come back in for calendar events.
I’ve been thinking of something…. once you hit “endgame” [that is, with a full set that you like], farming gold gets so easy…. but worthless. Like… what do you want gold for?
I just want gold so that I can buy gems. Can I have your gold (since you don’t want it)?
They were native to Cantha. But then Elona sent the privateer Captain Morgan and his rum drinking crew, on order of her majesty Verona, and nabbed all the rits. The crusade then spread to everywhere. Fortunately, the Most Interesting Man in the World is so good he could learn some of the rit magic and teach some of it.

I have three 80’s too and I’ve completed the personal story on just one of them. So no, you are not the only one.
In the year 1426 of the Dynastic Reckoning Empress Verona of Elona (blessed be her name) outlawed the summoning of spirits as being unclean and an abomination of nature and so began the Great Inquisition. Many ritualists were burned at the stake and otherwise persecuted. The few that survived taught their lore to whoever was brave enough to listen and so some of the art of summoning survives to this day.

The main issue here is that people somehow feel that they MUST do every single thing released.
Is that the fault of the game? Might be.
But mostly it lies with the player.
If you don’t feel like you can handle it, simply don’t do it. You won’t be locked out from the game for not having done certain events and so on after all.
Agreed.
But the LS is there for all those people who like to complain that there is not enough to do. Every MMO has this sort of person and they are not entirely wrong. Those people, I would hope, are now satisfied with GW2’s Living Stories; they have no reason to complain; they got what they asked for. As for the rest of us, we don’t have to do it as we are (and have been) satisfied with the rest of the game as it is (in terms of content anyway).
I’ve only done the LS stuff off and on. As a result, if there is a coherent story being told by that content I have no idea what it is. Scarlet? Who is that? I’ve only directly encountered her once and frankly I don’t understand all the hate that is being directed her way.
Partly my situation is due to my not playing frequently enough. Partly it is because I want to do other things in the GW world (I feel like I have to do the LS and that I am missing out by not doing it so it nags at me while I go off and do WvW or whatever).
The point is, if the LS was equivalent to an expansion, I would be able to run all of its content at my leisure. But as LS is temporary content, I cannot and I have no good way to understand the story short of trying to research it on the internet. I constantly feel like I am missing out which is a real turn-off for me. As a result, LS has made me much less interested in spending time in this game. That seems counterproductive to me but I am sure ANet knows what it is doing.
No. This game is not terribly engaging for me and is just something to do once and a while. I did upgrade my bank storage from the pathetic amount we get at start and I tried the gem store for a few odds and ends for a while but I won’t spend another dime on this game, at least as the game stands now.
Yeah, someone else told me. Great news.
Anyway, I tried to delete this thread but I cannot.
ANet, please delete this thread.
Here you go:
Why do we need another thread on this?
My highest level is 60 and yet I’ve never participated in WvW or any dungeon. Ever. I don’t even know where to begin or how to prepare myself for either. But I feel like I am missing out on two huge things the game offers. What are some suggestions for someone like me who has put all of their time just doing regular PvE stuff?
I have three 80’s and I’ve participated in maybe three dungeons and have been kicked from a dozen or so more for not having “the right armor and\or not being the right class”. So you are not alone. I could alleviate the situation somewhat by joining a guild but I detest the guild system in this game and frankly, I don’t think I should have to join a guild just so that I can participate in dungeons.
I planned on getting T3 Human for my elementalist human upon reaching level 80, but now i’m going to get it at half the price, plus it’ll even look cooler with the fire on it!
Don’t ruin this for me!
So for all the people who worked hard and paid full price for that armor, they shouldn’t complain because it will ruin it for you? Wow… Just… Wow.
If you buy 1kg of bananas for 20 euro today just to see it in promotion tomorrow in half the price, will you boycott the supermarket, lol
So many delusional people on this board …
Straw man.
Bananas do not have the same clout as T3 cultural armor. A better analogy might be “If you buy an iPhone for $600 today just to see it in promotion tomorrow in half the price, will you boycott the vendor, lol”.
snip ANet is not loyal to itself…snip
^This, so much this.
Yes it does. Which is why I don’t. (Put hours in grinding that is.) This game is just a bit “meh” to me and not worth it, never mind the trend that has developed.
What’s a thaumanova reactor?
Exactly. I guess I missed that LS update. So no idea what a thaumanova reactor is.
I think his argument is that in a game where it is all about acquiring cool looking skins, “win” = “skins”. So buying those skins is PTW.
I’m half tempted to buy this armor set by buying gems with gold and put it on my human Necro. Partly to subvert the cash grab but at the expense of other people’s ire. It’s not like I will ever get the armor the hard way. Same reason why I will never have a legendary or ascended item. I just don’t care enough about this game to work that hard. But paying with virtual coin… why not?
(edited by pdg.8462)
Tooting your own horn is pathetic.
Aw, no rank on my updated Toxic Nightmare set, pdg? :<
Oops, sorry I broke the rules.
I think those shoulders look awesome and very necroish.
7/10
I tend to ignore them but sometimes I do them for a little while just to check it out. Get the easy achievements.
“End game” means when I stop playing because there is nothing left I want to do. End of game. Game over. Etc.
I’m not arguing with you. I think it would be cool. Just sayin’.
That would allow elitism non-casual play to creep in more than it already has.
“LFM CoF HM Gear Check Required”
Hello everyone, I just want to know if its a good idea to introduce GW2 to my 10 yrs. old son. I’ve been playing this game for the last 10 months and I really liked it. My son sees I played and he seems to be interested in it. He usually plays fps games. I’m sure he will like the asura engie class. Im afraid he will be too addicted to it like me. So what do you think, go or no go?
Why are you asking us? A bunch of strangers. You are his father (presumably) and only you and your wife can make that determination.
Yes, thank you. Now I might actually buy one.
I posted the results by adding a link to the graph to the initial post in this topic thread. So this post serves to just “bump” this topic to the top of the list to grab the attention of those who are interested.
Wow, those are some nice pics. Thanks for sharing. Many I have not seen yet (not too surprising, I only have 50% or so map completion).
As you said, there are plenty of things to do. So how is your boredom ANet’s problem? Entertain yourself.
So my wife has never played a MMO before. In fact, other than some card games and Bejeweled, she has never played any video games. But she knows our daughter plays this game a lot (as do I) so she wanted to try GW2. So while I was standing behind her watching her learn to play GW2, trying to run around and whack bad guys and such, I caught myself remarking to myself “what a beautiful game”. And it really is. So there is no real point to this post other than to relate that event and let ANet know you done good (and maybe take a little of the edge off of the negativity on these forums).
You are probably correct. Consider it a survey of what the angry people think they want. Although there is an option for the happy people – “LW is fine as-is”.
Yes, the camera is extremely annoying. Also, the disappearing mouse pointer; I spend so much time waving my mouse around looking for the pointer.
Only 42 responses so far. Come on people; make your voices heard.
You know what would be cool? If you made this survey via something like survey monkey so we could see the results at a glance: https://www.surveymonkey.com/
Just make sure that in the survey you clearly define your terms.

I’m not sure why these forums don’t have integrated polls. :/
Well, for kicks I created one for the Living World debate/saga/wars/whatever. One question, five options to choose from, 30 secs of your time.
You might want to post some details, like how many questions it is and how long it will take. I clicked on it, but changed my mind after seeing there was no indication of how long it is.
Also, while surveys are interesting, keep in mind their limits, too, like bias. For example, people who feel strongly one way or the other about it are more likely to complete it, the forum (and the subset of people who take the survey) are not necessarily representative of the player population as a whole, etc. You might get quantifiable results, but be careful how you present the ones you get. Surveys and polling are relatively easy to manipulate, both to get the results you want and to present the results you get in a favorable light, so be aware of what you’re doing every step of the way.
Done. Thank you. Good suggestion.
I created a Living World survey so that we can have a more quantifiable assessment of what the community thinks (I hope this works):
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JJ7C32L
The survey consists of one question with five multiple-choice options. There is also one optional “other” text box where you can provide other comments. The survey should take you no more than 30 seconds to complete.
I will post the results at some point.
Edit: Here are the results as of 11/12/2013:
