Costume or Hat Maker NPC

Costume\Hat NPC was a great idea in GW1 and it would be great in GW2. But I doubt it will happen because it would take just that much pressure off of spending real money to buy gems to buy more inventory space.

You don’t get to see my gear unless I decide to show you.

Exactly. Totally agree. Inspection only encourages elitism. If you want to know what skins someone has that you admire so much, ask them.

Im a little annoyed that all these people who didnt get the game on release or were too lazy to level up are expecting to have all these items handed to them at level 1….

I have two level 50+ characters. Is that enough “hard work” for you?

Hmmm, I had a similar problem but I did not get the HoM portal stone in my inventory. Turns out I had not visited the HoM in GW1. When I did then I got the portal stone. So I am guessing the OP has already visited the GW1 HoM. I also took my main GW1 character into the HoM. Maybe you can do that too and see if it helps.

Titles Need to be More Visible

in Suggestions

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

I feel like someone having to click on your character, and squint to see little gray font to see the title

I didn’t even know you could do that. I selected one of the titles and asked my guild members if they saw the title over my head or anything, and nobody saw anything.

Ha ha, me either! I selected one of my HoM titles but had no idea where they show up. I just assumed it was yet another broken aspect of the game.

But yeah, titles should be [Character Name], [Title] and hover over our character not needing to do anything (e.g., click) other than looking at them. So something like “Fizzbin, The Kitten Slayer”.

Gold seller are so much worst than you think

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

I recall my earliest days with MMOs getting a whisper about buying gold. At the time I had no idea it was wrong. Maybe this is normal and legit? I nearly did it too but the delivery was the give-away for me (in-game meetup to trade gold). My point? There are probably tons of people playing who have no idea gold selling is wrong and not part of the game. To stop the practice would include an in-your-face message at game startup time; so in your face that you cannot not know it is wrong.

“Players become truly addicted to information.
They start making rules – allow access to your character’s information or you can’t join Group/Guild.
And it’s downhill from there, all the way to obnoxious elitism.”

Yup. Go look at the Diablo 3 forums. Those forums were full of hatred and condemnation to begin with. As soon as the ability to link your post to your character was introduced, then people’s comments were immediately being discounted or otherwise invalidated based on whatever criteria suited the person (not enough hours played, hasn’t reached level X, whatever).

Hide player level from the player

in Suggestions

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

This sounds like a good idea on paper, but in practice, it would actually detract from the game. Those who suggested and wanted it would be overjoyed, but then would come all the rampant complaints. “I can kill this red, but not this red, what gives, ANet?” “This sucks, these things are yellow and are absolutely trashing me. I’d rather just know everything’s level, because this isn’t fun.”

Then one of the categories should be “Not Possible”. But even so, the color coding would change and would always be relative to your “hidden” level. I don’t see the problem.

That’s a very interesting concept. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to literally have an MMO-type of game with no level system at all…just story and stuff to do. That way, people could actually play the game instead of getting all hot and bothered about getting to max level and then complaining that there’s not enough content.

This is brilliant!

I totally disagree with the OP. Down scaling is a very good thing. And it’s one of the things I like most about GW2. Claiming you cannot help out lower level people is disingenuous. Of course you can still help lower level folks. You just cannot one-shot, steam roll content.

GW2 vs Rift

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

I’ve had multiple infractions for posts involving Rift talk. As far as I can tell none of them violated any other guidelines… but of course the “reason” was vague and didn’t say why it was really taken down. They just ninja bad PR with more bad PR

That has happened to me (and probably will again for this post). Some of the mods act upon a very liberal interpretation of the forum rules.

On the topic at hand, I also wanted to say that the class build system is very cool. Any class can play any role in the Holy Trinity. And on the negative side, Trion has had an extremely big nerf bat which is the reason why I left the game. They nerfed the priest class into oblivion for a while because of a PvP issue. WoW did the same thing at one time and on both occasions I left their game. Since we pay a monthly subscription I don’t think destroying a class, even for a finite amount of time, is not appropriate (would have been better if Trion had said the mega-nerf was temporary until a more permanent fix was in).

GW2 vs Rift

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

I played Rift for over a year. It’s a great WoW-style MMO. By that I mean it has the endless gear grind if you are into that and the so-called “Holy Trinity”. The Rift devs did an absolutely awesome job at UI design and implementing new features as the game progressed. On the negative side, the quests are quite boring IMO making leveling a second character a bit of a chore. The dungeons are quite linear.

You’re missing out on… what, maybe 10% combat effectiveness? If that?

Gear doesn’t matter much in this game. Player skill matters.

What you fail to understand is that it is much easier to blame others for one’s own failings. It’s human nature.

Look at the person who said that if gear inspection was available he would still kick someone from the dungeon group even if stacking magic find had no appreciable effect on combat effectiveness.

4 – Drawing on the minimap.
5 – Guild Halls

Not me. I got tired of the Rift grind for currencies. I was also turned off by the massive nerf batting; not cool for a subscription-based game. Too much like WoW. But I have to say Trion did an incredible job on the game’s UI and are amazingly responsive to the player base.

A system that is supposed to punish bots but instead punishes everyone else instead.

But it doesn’t punish everyone. It only punishes you and other people who grind the same content over and over. That’s ANet’s choice. I support it. You can always go back to a more grindy game if you like.

Invulnerable Mobs Suck

in Suggestions

Posted by: pdg.8462

I totally agree with this point.

Vigilante justice against bots!

in Suggestions

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

This still seems like it can be abused. I suppose if people who too often falsely flag someone as a bot are punished in some significant way, then it might be enough to discourage abuse.

I suspect not everyone who plays this game knows what a “bot” is and if they were suddenly labeled as a bot they might not understand what to do for fear of being scammed somehow.

But in principle, I think it is a good idea, but an expensive one to implement.

Character Name Tester

in Suggestions

Posted by: pdg.8462

pdg.8462

Some people have, from time to time, asked on these forums why such-and-such a character name was not allowed. Sometimes it is a clear violation of the rules and other times it seems as if denial was based on an extraordinarily liberal interpretation of the rules. The same thing can be said about forum post censorship but there is nothing I can think of to help with that other than utilizing more diligent and conservative self-censorship. But as far as the character name thing goes, a simple web page with a text box and a button on it that tests whether a name will be allowed or not prior to character creation could be of use to some people. Granted, it is a relatively small thing, but some people might benefit from it; the cost of making such a tool would probably be so low as to make it worthwhile.

A friend and I were fighting some trolls or maybe ettins, I forget, and they kept knocking us down. Each ettin used their knockdown once and only after some other ettin already used theirs. So it was like they were perfectly coordinated in their use of knockdowns. Anyway, we spent the entire fight flat on our backs and couldn’t do anything. Needless to say we died.
