The one thing I would change most with elementalist is smooth out the buttons between attunements

….is smooth out the button layouts between attunements.
Elementalist skills are just all over the place.
Like for example one attunement your big aoe skill is attached to button 5, but when you swap attunements, that attunements big aoe spell is on button 4, then when you change to another attunement, the aoe spells are on buttons 3 and 4.
Or another example is if you are running dagger/dagger, the gap closers are on separate buttons. Blazing speed is on the 3, RtL on 4. This is unnecessary.
Elementalist has to utilize its attunements, but having to dance at every button slot for the right spell per attunement is probably the worst thing about the class.
Put things like your dodge/movement skills to one universal button. AOE to another button. Single target to the same.

It’s worse on an elementalist.
Their skills are all over the place.

Scepter #1 is terrible for anything except clone spamming for shatter fodder. It creates the least useful type of clone (lowest attack speed, no conditions/boons, and doesn’t even have the same attack pattern as the mesmer) while having the lowest dps autoattack. As a niche weapon that may be acceptable, but as the only mesmer ranged 1h weapon it’s problematic.
A clone is a clone. Clones do not differentiate from each other.
If you mean a phantasm, scepter by itself has no phantasm. Only offhands and 2h weapons have phantasms.
scepter has it’s autoattack, a block/blind and a channeled confusion spell.
Elementalist has the highest skill needed out of all classes imo.
And the best pve weapon is the worst pvp weapon.
Greatsword in the tooltips should tell you exactly what its for.
You get more damage from the main attack by being further away. That should be the biggest hint ever.

Relevant to this discussion are your Ethereal Combo Fields (Chaos Storm, Feedback, I think Null Field and maybe Veil count as well) combined with any Leap finisher (Staff2 and Sword3).
Time warp counts as well.
People dislike mantras because they are cumbersome. That and ANet has half a dozen traits specific to them, haha.
I’d agree that mantras are situation specific and the long cast time does prevent them from always being ready in a certain situation.
But the look on the face of a hammer wielding warrior using the double stun removal or the thief or necro going condition builds have all their conditions wiped has got to be precious.
A mesmer with arcane theivery and mantra of resolve is a necromancers worst nightmare.
Because 2 phantasm + 2 shatter > 2 phantasm + 0 shatter.
M4th is h4rd.
Two Phantasms ARE better than two shattered phantasms, because they’ll attack again in 6-8 seconds and deal two or three times the damage of the shatter.
You can reconjure phantasms which of whom attack immediately upon spawn.
Take duelist for example.
Duelist shoots→shatter→reconjure as duelist is shattering.
So instead of waiting 6-8 seconds between attacks, you shatttered for damage and had to wait only 2 seconds between duelist attacks only due to the cast time.
Why do people hate mantras so much?
Yes the cast time is a little high, but the 2 use thing is pretty nifty. And you can trait for each mantra you have available you increase all your damage.
Although I’d never roll with more than 1 mantra.
Diversion needs to add more time on the stun per illusion destroyed.
Distortion I wish it had a secondary effect. Maybe an aoe blind.
Mesmer is more about playstyle than anything else.
Only time I ever had problems on my mesmer were higher level story quests and the propensity of the undead.
I soloed (or could have soloed) every single skill challenge without breaking a sweat.
sword/pistol + staff for pve
Scepter/pistol + staff for pvp
staff for pve is godly once you realize you can have nearly 20 seconds straight of chaos armor.
I play a confusion build for pvp. It makes me a nightmare for people who love to spam buttons.
Go staff.
Chaos wind bounces up to 3 mobs if traited. Chaos storm is an aoe field that is far more damaging than anyone gives it credit for. You have access to a quick cooldown clone for shatters for aoe.

A new illusion destroys an old illusion.
It’s working as intended.
Have you considered the possibility that arenanet doesn’t want you to just sit on phantasms?
If you’re playing for loot you’re playing the wrong game.
So loot as a means to progress my character is not possible in Guild Wars 2…is that that your agreeing with?
How you progress your character is between your chair and your computer, not some arbitrary loot with higher numbers,
I disagree. In the context of progression being that under which I am progressing through the content of the game if I’m not replacing my loot about every ten levels I have a hard time soloing. It may be that my chosen class (mesmer) is more gear dependent than others, or it could simply be that better/more of my primary stats make me more effective.
To that end, I don’t run dungeons for the gear but for the experience, but likewise it would be ‘flavorful’ for certain bosses to drop certain items.
You will be replacing your gear constantly even after hitting level 80.
There are also legendaries to “farm” up.
But all gear of a specific level is static. The only way for a balanced game is to have static gear.
That’s because your level 30.
They aren’t going to hand you glowing shoulders when you can’t even fill out your elite skill.
Crafting.
Crafting is a ridiculous gold sink.

It’s coming later. Most likely in the first expansion.
If you’re playing for loot you’re playing the wrong game.
Th only down leveling grievances that are viable are repair costs and travel costs vs the amount of money rewarded.
Anything else is part of the reason why you are downscaled.
Jormag is probably the next dragon.
So expect a northern expansion first.
Primordius is probably the last dragon.
They should reverse illusionary leap.
Make it work more like how thieves showstep works.
I use shatters all the time.
What seems to be missing from this thread is
1) phantasms tend to get aggro very fast, so their uptime is limited.
2) Secondary effects from shatters specifically confusion.
3) Downtime between phantasm attacks versus recasting a phantasm. (i.e. duelist attacks every 6-8 seconds so there is dps downtime)
When you see a dynamic event, do it.
Warriors are fine.
I play mesmer and only have trouble with the ones that know how to play.
And the ones that know how to play generally don’t use greatswords, which is where 99% of the complaints come from.
I want Realm of Torment back.=D
Realm of Torment wouldn’t really exist anymore because it has become Kormir’s realm IIRC.
Cute dumb rat people > Obese mudkips
Scythes goes without saying.
But I see it more as localized weaponry based on expansion settings.
So Elona gets Scythes and spears.
Cantha probably gets something like Katanas and fist weapons.
The far north will have dwarven based weaponry, like maybe crossbows and 2h axes.
Because of the combo field system, a dps meter would be completely inaccurate.
Skritt > Quaggan
What you suggest sounds pretty awesome. I would love for an open zone(s) that are hardcore dungeon/raid in difficulty.
Underworld and FoW were GW1 end game. There was a few more end game zones depending on what campaigns you had, but these 2 were the core end game.
Typically you farmed them for the top armor sets. To this day in GW1 Obsidian armor, the first high end armor set created, was still the most material intensive set to get.
GW2 is going to need something like this.
I’m almost positive they will add new weapons into the game as they reveal the map.
Imagine bringing back Underworld and Fissure of Woe from Guild Wars 1, but not as dungeons but as true zones. Elite hardcore zones made for exploration and high level farming. Where most mobs are veteran level status. Where dynamic events reveal chests like in GW1 for the rarest crafting materials in the game.
Ideally it would be nice to see all realms of the 6 gods, but these 2 zones have a lot of history and nostalgia behind them.
