If you wanted perfectly fair fights, you’d be in sPvP.
How often are you fighting with no weapon stacks? Guard stacks? No food or oils? Ascended vs exotics/rares?
I personally have no stats on my back piece because I can’t be bothered spending the time in PvE.
I can still wreck people 1v1 just the same without any of the above and am absolutely loving this change.150 to all stats is a sliver of your total stats. If you think you are losing fights just because of the buff, go try out sPvP and be rudely awakened to reality.
In GW2, skill/build is vastly superior to stats. We now have constant, varying scale fights and a plethora of <4 man groups roaming the borderlands, this is the open world PvP MMO players have been asking for, for YEARS.
Open your eyes and enjoy what we now have: The best open world PvP game on the market.
The REAL problem we have now, is the crippling lag… What the kitten is with that?
The real problem after lag is low population. Nothing is being done for that. It’s not about fair fights, it’s about fair chances for the week. If a side has twice as much as the other side in terms of people logging in, we already know which one is going to win so why bother? Then repeat the next week, then the one after… then if WvW is all you like about the game, you either transfer or quit if you don’t wanna pay the fun tax. I think you grossly misunderstand what people mean by fair fights.
Also, for a backpack, join a guild and buy a guild backpack, its 5g.

Someone or group of people needs to be fired. This is a repeat of the ORBs. We don’t need these kind of incompetency leading the team. And on top of the non-existing testing. I didn’t pay Anet for a non-finished product. If I wanted to be a beta tester I’d signup for other soon to be released games. People at my work place get paid to QA my code, I’m not going to QA for Anet for free. Heads need to roll at Anet.
You aren’t QAing their code. In fact, it seems obvious that ANet has very few programmers and too many designers, especially when all they talk about is “limitations”. There is very little code involved. You are experiencing terrible design decisions and bad priorities, trademark of teams that cannot agree on anything if it doesn’t bloat their own personal egos.
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
The main issues of WvW still remain. When will those be fixed? When will WvW generate interest for people to just try it? When will it be worth doing? The population issues are quite annoying. With the added lag of the last patch, it means even less players interested. The only fun part of the last update was the flame ram traits to be honest.
Not everyone has your high-end test PCs, so my suggestion is that you buy a few used, very low end PCs and actually test before releasing patches. For my part, I think I just lost faith in ANet for everything other than PvE. Perhaps I just have to stop pretending you care about WvW and focus on what actually gets attention. So, I am looking forward to trying the LFG tool.
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
I don’t want to be overly negative but that idea would be as good as Anet doing nothing. It would cause the game to bleed players. I am from a xenophobic part of the world and all I can say is creating rules to prevent something negative is not a good thing if it stops all the positive effects there are from there having no rules.
Instead, they should focus on making WvW more attractive (just like we should focus on making our culture more attractive). But getting Anet to understand that is like trying to talk to a government that got elected on xenophobic beliefs to change our ways. It’s a lost cause.

Season 1 is going forward as we described, however nothing about future seasons is set in stone. We’ll take a look at the data we get from the first season and will absolutely make adjustments so that future seasons are even better than the first one.
My concern with four leagues is simply that there isn’t enough variety at that point. I could very well be wrong, but we are going to try season 1 this way and then we’ll take a look at how it played out.
And that pretty much sums up all that is wrong with GW2. 0 foresight.
They did try foresight by telling us what going to happen and the player base hated it. The player base wants it to be this way.
That’s not foresight, it’s bad PR.
- We are doing to do A.- We don’t really think that will help, why not do B instead.
- No, we’re doing A. Please look forward to it!
What players think on a forum is rarely relevant and what the players need is rarely the same as what they think.
Yeah, every time someone has an idea, even a bad one, he is irrelevant and it never exposes a potential problem. He also doesn’t know what he needs because the poor thing, if he buys from you, he must be crazy… I hope you don’t try to become a businessman and you stick to being an employee. For your sake.

Foresight would of been to lead the AC as they where even with ppl complaining about them and just keep pushing forward with other wvw level ability to counter the AC. Foresight is something a player cant have only the game makers. That means they can have foresight because they simply know more then you do about what they are doing to the game things you CANT know.
If they had some, they would let us know. Just like they did with class balance. Right now, they have none and comments like those only make it obvious. They are merely improvising. They are not even trying to predict what will happen, yet everyone is telling them exactly what will happen because it has been happening for months and they are showing no plans to actually fix the real problems, thus, lacking foresight.
Perhaps their intent is to eventually shut down WvW to try and get more people to focus on sPvP as some strongly believe. Perhaps they are right. Perhaps those who think it’s to cash in on server transfers are right. It is hard to know, but all those guesses have a probability of being correct. I just think they are blind. I am being willfully delusional in lending them the quality of actually caring about the WvW system.

SF could use the numbers. We usually do decent for our size, but often find ourselves outnumbered. Plus you get all the rest of the week to see if we’re good enough for you!

On the bright side, if you were to just accept the gold and they ban you, you could use the legal system to your advantage. It is illegal to block someone out of their purchased products in most countries/states and if someone sends out gold by mistake it in no way means you broke the EULA. Oh how I would love it to have been me! Here the fine starts at 5000$ for locking someone out of a purchased product.

Many people, even the developers seek the easiest tweak and lose sight of the single biggest problem in WvW : Population balance. So they never fix anything, really, they just move the problem around hoping it fixes itself. By population balance I mean the average amount of players taking part in WvW within a 24-hour window. The simple fact that those numbers are not being shared only highlights the fact that it is really as disgusting as it seems for the lower populated servers. I feel the overall general direction of the game is detrimental to its longterm well-being and hopefully some of the recent bad decisions will be reverted, especially the 12-team leagues.
The objectives of WvW should be fun and competition. Perhaps a leveling method too. In fact, it feels like there has been an unexplainable major crackdown on leveling speed within the game lately, with absolutely no reason given, which is strange from a game that boasted the fact that zones were replayable no matter the level you were. Regardless, it is not much fun to level in WvW. As for competition, well, that has led to several problems the major one being spies. Along with the “addon” that tracks commanders – which does give an unfair advantage to teams using it – the competition has given way to cheating. To make matters worse, the development team wants to add in a system that allows the strong to get even stronger. That cannot happen.
The solutions to the major problems appear quite simple in writing, though I know that in coding things get more complicated especially if a technological hurdle exists. So the quick fixes to quickly improve WvW would be:
1. Remove the seige deployment limit. This will fix the spy-greifer problem.
2. Remove the server transfer cost when transfering to a lower ranked server (that you are not playing against). This should help improve player balance.
3. Make WvW the primary method of gearing up and having gear for other builds by greatly augmenting badges of honor drops once a character is 80. Pre-80 should award 3 times more XP, at the very least! That would give incentive to at least join in on the WvW effort. Players would join lower rank servers for that XP/Badge boost without having to wait in queue.
4. Show the quarterly average amount of players taking part in the WvW effort for each server depending on the time frame (server time). ie: Amount of players on each team at each update / number of updates in the past 6 hours.
Solutions that may take some time to develop:
1. Leagues must be limited to 6 teams and divided in pools. Every 4th week, the top 3 face off while the bottom 3 face off in relegation. The current implementation will only provide pre-determined top 3, who wont play each other every week, which means pre-determined results most of the time, which removes both fun and competition. Teams could be tiered with better competition, rewards given every 4 weeks instead of 7, which coincides pretty well with monthly. The loser of the last week would be relegated to the lower tier and the winner would be moved up to the upper tier.
2. Winners of the top two tiers could get better rewards than those on the lower tiers and anyone taking part in a specific tier during the month would get another server-wide PvE boost based on their tier. For example, tier 4 could get heart completion rate increased since they need some love while tier one could get server-wide PvE damage boosts. As long as tier 1 is better than all others to make it so no one wants to get relegated.
3. Server merges. This will fix some of the lack of numbers issues but may take longer to implement than opening transfers to lower-ranked servers. Instead of having 24 teams, we would end up with maybe 18 which means 3 pools of 6. So it works out just fine.

I’ve got a simpler suggestion: Merge the servers.
Maybe we’d even get to meet other players in PvE zones that don’t have zerg farms.
Everyone can see the game is dying off and the fact ANet refuses to give out server infos pretty much confirms it. So while some of us still enjoy the game, why not just merge some servers together…
I guess you could use WvW rank to decide which name the server keeps!

Is it really surprising? They’ve gone back on every promise up to now from their so-called manifesto, other than making a game, at least it made it to release. So much for the possibility of getting to 80 with crafting… and maxing out all crafts at the moment would cost 385$ in gems converted to gold.

First, this should belong in Suggestions.
Second:
1) Good idea.
2) Horrible idea. Punish people for wanting to play, just because it’s someone else’s off-time?
3) Hacking really isn’t this terrible thing everyone thinks it is. It’s never massive, it’s never game changing, and it’s always fixed.
4) Just no… When I want to leave a server to bypass a broken event, I can’t?
5) Nothing is wrong with melee, or rangers. It’s not like this is PvP.
6) Or just keep it the same, ‘cause it’s never that big of a problem. I got my monthly in under an hour at level 30….
7) How?
8) No, because it’s not like this is PvP.
5 &
But it IS PvP … you are fighting other players, not the environment. And if you think nothing is wrong with rangers, just play one. I think your judgement is obstructed. Then try to play with a melee character, and count how often you switch to ranged weapons. I rarely fight with melee against other players now unless they try to melee me… as a melee class.
2) The idea is not punishing people who want to play, its about having balanced fight when you fight other players. I was on a borderlands where we outnumbered both teams combined… real fun. I just sat in a keep with not much to do. If I go to other borderlands… I just sit in spawn and die the second I step out. Sometimes, 10 players can holkittenep, but only if the other team is troublesome.
Those punished, at the moment, are those who really want to enjoy the game mode and are bogged down by players like me (just doing it for 100% completion) and by those who simply don’t want to play that game mode giving imbalanced teams.
4) As for leaving servers to bypass broken events, you can, but you just cant join in that server’s WvW. However, for that, it would be much better to allow players to move over to another server without having to actually transfer just so they can do the broken even, much like joining a party member’s game.
6) Has nothing to do with being competitive. Anyone can sit on an arrow cart and get their monthly. But 1v1, you’re a push over to any real 80 and that makes you a burden for your team.
7) If you cant see how, you wouldn’t understand it so I wont bother explaining. I’m sure Anet has great analysts too and purposefully choose to keep AI so lame for balance issues, I simply think they’re wrong.
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
Well, tonight, im in the 3%
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
1) Position in queue
2) Balanced teams, no 100 vs 15
3) Better hacking counters (check player position server side)
4) Lock transfers out of WvW until it resets.
5) Fix melee. (and rangers if you want)
6) Give more xp to lowbies so they can be competitive faster for fixing walls and the likes OR move WvW to the PvP model where everyone is equal.
7) Improve AI.
8) Remove map explorer from WvW.
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.

WvW is really empty today. On SF we have like 1 good sized zerg going and capping stuff and Rall has a good sized zerg doing the same. We just ran through EB completely and capped some towers on all sides of the field and the map is almost completely empty. WvW feels nothing like it did in the opening week, I’m wondering what ANet will do to balance populations.
Well right now, their silence points to… nothing!
My wish would be to see it converted to the PvP model instead of the PvE model, with in-game server rankings of course. But I’m sure they looked at it though and figured it would suck and that’s why its not like that. I wonder what part I’m missing in all this…
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
You really should re-read what I wrote.
Repeating the same crap over and over again wont work on me, I know that trick works on actual lesser people, but I’m well above that. Leave your red herrings at the door too. I laughed, good try!
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
For the guild hopping problem, that will be fixed when it costs 2000 gems to xfer.
What is really needed is balanced fights. If its 40 vs 40, no team will always win, no matter how good they are. But if its 40 vs 5… then its obvious 1 team will dominate. Obviously, the guy in the 5 team will leave, someone else will join, seeing theres no one they will leave then wont return. So it will never change. Why get your kitten whooped when you can come back next week?
Then you need balance. Not in numbers but in levels. There is NO way a level 10 can compete with a level 80. Even when boosted to 80, the level 10 will get 4 shot, including downed state if the 80 is built on damage. When new players experience this, they leave and probably wont come back for a while. Its normal, if you suck, you dont belong. What’s not normal is being given the impression you suck when you never played on a level playing field. So to eventually get to a level playing field, they have to spend roughly 600 hours repairing walls. Weee how fun right? I’m pretty sure uninstalling will come before 600 hours of wall repairs.
WvW, as it stands, is a PITA for the world completion achieve. Nothing else. I think it should work as PvP does, where you build yourself to be on equal footing with everyone. Then it needs to have player balance, such as limit of 20 players, once that is reached it is upped to 40 and so on. If its unfair, why would I want to just watch or be part of a team that wins with numbers?
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
No one listens, they are led to obey.
Commanders are useless.
Ive superseeded commanders in chat for good results a few times without spending 100g. Explaining serves nothing, if they cant figure it out themselves, they’re better off just obeying. Seriously, the term “smart gamers” is more of a myth than reality.

TLDR; WvW is a PITA for map explorer, unrewarding and imbalanced.
Firstly, it doesn’t really matter that SoR are recruiting “good guilds” as “good guilds” are a myth. It also doesnt matter who wins and who does what, since you get absolutely nothing from it at the end.
Sure there are hackers, even people who switch to be on the winning side, but their numbers are insignificant compared to who is in there. Fact is, SF last week had 20-30 minute queues, this week it is instant. Less people are playing. I dont blame them, after a while, it does get boring. Where’s the fun of being outnumbered 5 to 1? Its not like leveling works either, in 10h as ranger I hit lvl 5 in WvW…. in 3h as theif I’m close to 10 from hearts. So since there is no incentive and being outnumbered is not even fun, why would people choose WvW?
For my part I stopped playing WvW because it becomes obvious that most players in there want their map completion more than control. No one cares about strategy, many events necessary to holding points have no reward to the point that losing points and retaking them are worth more than actually repairing walls. As a mace&shield guardian my damage sucks and my only use is on cannons.

For endgame I use http://www.gw2build.com/builds/tank-build-tank-guardian-5727.html
With Karma gear from Melandru vendor. (except head & feet, which suck)
Although some attacks still 1shot me (its like if they ignore armor) especially when delevelled, I usually have no problems with 4-5 mobs on me in Orr, and with my gf (heal specced ele) Ive went up to 10 at once without any problems. You will usually be beating on the mobs while they beat up on me.
I find tanking builds so sexy, but unfortunately, while leveling alone they don’t have much utility . Maybe when Anet manages to do an instance based leveling alternative I’ll include it in my guide ^^
Strictly speaking of endgame, only thing I’d change is trading the “stand your ground!” for “contemplation of purity” cause of the better sinergy with “save yourselves!”. Ofc it depends on the area. I understand that KD can be the worst CC that ever existed so in an area full of mobs that can spam KD I’d choose an exactly identical build.
Can’t wait for some additional endgame dungeon content so I can change build to my beloved tanking styleAnother thing that I keep noticing is the absolute importance of at least 15 points in Radiance in all guardian builds. TBH I think this is a Anet subliminal message saying we should be the ones spreading blind and vulnerability application upon initiation.
Thanks for your imput m8
Contemplation of purity isn’t bad either. I tried it only once. The 60s cooldown is kinda annoying & I usually run with a water mage that removes conditions.
Right now I’m 85% world completion with this build. I use retreat! though. Getting from point A to point B fast is worth it. For leveling, strictly speaking, survivability > all so I suggest simply going full toughness until maxed ASAP then precision (or power with 2h sword) Self heals below lvl 60 just suck for it to be worth investing in heals. At 70, it is a notable difference though. Most of my gear now has power – toughness – healing. (power compensates for the investment in precision in traits).
Cant wait to be full mythic to test out if there are stat caps!

My view of the Charr is much darker that most.
Honor : Acting on honor signifies that you will do everything to regain that honor should you shame your tribe. A good example: Vigil leader has her son killed - Honor is supposed to be how one represents his community, tribe, w/e. So we get people asking you to do things for them, do they not have honor? Is pride not an essential quality of honor? Their use of the term honor is deceiving, its more of a term to glorify their weakness rather than actual honor. Honor for the Charr is a crutch just like Christianity is in the modern day Western world. (I’d expand on that but the zealots would whine and derail the thread as usual)
Personality I came across 3 characters with a different personality than the others. It was the same. They called me meat. (I play a gremlin) – Other than that, they’re cowards or lazy creatures. The Gremlins however always have an excuse to manipulate you into doing their quests. Even the humans do. But Charr… prove your worth… really? I have to prove my worth to some farmer feeding cows with wasps? Stupid world explorer….
Anti-theists The Charr are Anti-theists. That part is well done, clear. However, they attach themselves to customs. It is quite strange that a society which does not believe in the possibility of dieties believes so dearly in maintaining customs. Something is wrong there and this simply strikes me as illogical.
Run animation How can a race that can move at normal speed insist so much on running on 4 legs in slow motion? When in a war, you want to conserve energy, not spend it. That too is illogical AND it also gives bonus headaches.
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
Well since someone took the time to clearly explain the Charr (learned a few things too).
However, the point of my post was missed
The point, in clearer words is… Charr are not Humans. Why do they behave like Humans do? They still base everything on honor, which really should lead anyone who claims honor to a point of extremes, which is why I was expecting Charr to be extremists, different, engaging. But no, humans with fur.
A Charr should eat a separatist, at least once. If elephants can eat humans simply because they are driven by hate, why cant a far more intelligent race in Tyria consume their enemies simply though the motivation that is hatred?
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
Precisely, but Charr should be eating separatists, not chicken. I’m still not over cows eating wasps though.
Because censorship is the most important part of the MMO business.
Charr in GW1 are cruel, unforgiving and seem to have a will to kill anyone who crosses them…
SO I go in a Charr zone, expecting fun (I didnt roll a Charr because the run animation is complete trash and gives me headaches). So I have to BRING CHICKENS TO A FARM or FEED SOME USELESS COWS WITH INSECTS wtf? and even CARRY EGGS AFTER A DEVOURER LAYS THEM … WTF is that ? Really? So Charr are now the happy-go-lucky race of Tyria? At least, it explains where I only crossed 3 other players in the whole 50-60 zone. What a let-down.

Mystic gear locks players in a playstyle
Current State: The current cost for mystic gear is 42 000 karma a piece
Need: These costs have to be lowered. I suggest 18 000 karma.
Reason: This game, as advertised… no more trinity! Ah, but that’s until you get to orange gear. Once there, you go for the set that suits your play style…. tank, dps, rdps, healer! Then you have the same problem as in any other game. People will start looking for certain builds, instead of classes. In fact, I already do. Sylvari elementalist staff healer. Sure, most people will go dps, after all, when you’re not in a group, you want to have an effective build, not one that punishes you and slows you down. Of course the elitist class will say its not required… required doesn’t matter, as long as its easier, safer, people will switch to it after grouping with incompetents.
sidenote – expanding on competence: In MMOs, there is no “skill”. There is only “competence”, the act of repeating the same kitten over and over and over again in a consistent manner. Most day jobs do not require skill, only competence. MMOs are, sadly, the same and GW2, with all the good things to say about it, does not change the foundation of an MMO. In my mind, they failed their own manifesto, but have salvaged it into a nice gaming experience. They are competent as a company, nothing more.
Whats in it for Anet: People do not get discouraged for buying the “wrong set”. People look forward to getting items. Maybe more transmute stone sales, definitely less quitters.

Replaying low level zones
Current State: It costs 2-4 silver per travel indiscriminately.
Need: These costs have to be removed, or at least, removed while in the same zone.
Reason: Often events pop up, people do not travel to it, unless its a dragon. The incentive to play with others is not really there. Joining up to help a friend with a heart, an event is not at all something you look forward to… even to the point that some will start setting themselves to invisible. This game was marketed as a group-friendly game but it feels like we have more incentive to solo stuff and only group up for what gives a big chest at the end. Unlike real money, people in videogames see the cost, evaluated if they will or not get enough drops to make up for the cost of travel (back and forth) and then decide if they will spend or not. Obviously, it would be better for them to do that in real life too, but that’s their problem, not mine, not yours.
Whats in it for Anet: People who dont say no to joining up with friends, and seeing that friend hasn’t logged in since. ie: A player that plays has a bigger chance to buy from gem store than a player that uninstalls.

Trait & gear specs
Current State: We have 1 set of traits.
Need: We need unlimited set of traits, but only 1 active at a time of course.
Reason: Bring the player, not the spec. As of now, especially when leveling, most people go DPS. To switch specs it costs silver (not much, but still does). Factor in the travel to the NPC, finding the NPC, respeccing without messing up, traveling back, etc. This is time consuming. Whatever holds a group up is not fun. As a game based on fun, we shouldn’t have to be held up for specs. This also would require sets of gear for each spec too as no one wants to find a bank just to get their weapons and gear out. For these reasons, we should have a least 1 extra spec slot.
Whats in it for Anet: You can sell extra spec slots in the gem store for those who would like more than one extra spec, per character!

Which dungeon
AC
If you are joining through the pop-up dialogue or by walking up to the entry point
Tried both
How many people in the party tried creating the instance
I created it first. No one else could join. So I exit. Log out fully. Come back. Someone else tries to create. No one can enter. After 5 minutes of trying, two people enter, both in separate instances. Other 3 cant enter. Five more minutes pass, party disbands.
Any other details you can provide
Sorrow’s Embrace server.
One good thing can be taken from that: The MMO world now knows that beta weekend events suck and hopefully we wont see that crap again.
I was the only one who had ever completed AC in the party afaik. I did choose to redo story though.

How would one craft actual armor from the mystic forge of rare and above quality for PvE?
ie: Is there a way to craft gear and manipulate the stats so that it is useful.
Presuming there is not, perhaps people could post here recipes they deem useful!
Here is the reddit post that already contains some info:
