Sorrow’s Furnace – Commander/Officer
Kabal of the Righteous [Seed]
@Harbringer
I explained why before, and while it’s nothing game breaking, if you add a strong downed state to an already strong class, it’s not fair for weaker class(Warrior) that have a bad downed state (they don’t have the worse, vengeance is areally good, but their number 2 is pretty bad).
Lol @ warriors being a weaker class. Just because they don’t excel in WvW in the same ways like they do in sPvP and PvE doesn’t mean they are weaker. Sorry, as a player that has an 80 Warrior in exotic/ascended gear, I have zero sympathy for Warrior complaints when compared to the faults and imbalances of other classes. This is besides the topic, and I agree with Harbinger, end this thread, it’s a waste of time and going nowhere.
It would be ideal if we could end the QQ-this skill is overpowered-QQ threads altogether, but it seems a new one crops up every week and goes in the same direction, nowhere.
Hopefully your additional response is not as much of a red herring as the previous responses which negated nothing and detracted from the point on irrelevant specifics.
Anet doesn’t redesign WvW because tier 8 has their feelings hurt.
No, higher tiers don’t know how it FEELS because we know it sucks so we didn’t put ourselves in that position. You can complain about people saying that any other server would dominate tier 8 all you want, but it doesn’t make it false. What good is it going to do for Anet to put their time and resources and money into fixing tier 8’s problem, if the very next week the server that replaces SF is going to be just as bad/worse?
You cannot seriously be so self entitled
If ANet wants people to enjoy playing their game, they shouldn’t be punished for establishing a larger guild presence when it was completely unknown how servers were going to fair at launch, especially because free transfers screwed that up horribly until it was way too late.
Your argument of ‘putting yourself in that position’ may apply to individuals, but for guild leaders/officers the current sentiment is “pay us money and go kitten your other guildies over, the progress you’ve made, the rewards you’ve earned and transfer away”, which is a horrible sentiment to push down tier 8’s throats.
The reality it is, it isn’t just Eredon Terrace and Ferguson’s Crossing that gets screwed over, it’s whoever is leading that match as well, in this case it is us this time, Sorrow’s Furnace. Kaineng and Devona’s Rest went through it as well, but at a point when the WvW status of servers was so volatile there were enough fluctuations between tiers that movement could occur.
That isn’t happening anymore. We have been dominating FC/ET since the beginning of the year. That’s almost two and half months now of winning.
Obligatory response from most people, “What’s so bad about that? You’re winning”. The problem is constant winning by a landslide.
- It destroys the quality of our WvW community. Those players/guilds that helped build up, and restrategize our server are now bored, leaving the trolls and mass-horde to introduce a detrimental environment to the game.
- There is no challenge, at all. We don’t have to be strategic, we don’t have to even be smart. The mass horde of SF scares off ET/FC and it PvDoors until it wins. There is no zerg v zerg fights, if it ever comes close to that a lower tier zerg gets broken up and never returns.
The hole that is caused by the Glicko2 system in Tier 8, seriously undermines how those servers would actually compare to other tiers. It is entirely possible, and likely that HoD could dominate as much as we have been in Tier 8; because that’s gone untested since free transfers ended though, we could just as easily find out that the strategies that ET/FC has applied against us, could blindside HoD and put them in a situation where the fights across servers are equal.
Also, arguing a hypothetical negative doesn’t make the hypothetical positive any less true, that’s just obfuscated hypocrisy.

using #2 as mesmer GUARANTEES a stomp interrupt, no matter where you randomly teleport to. this is a fact.
if you still get finished, then it means you are doing it wrong, you are either attacking after you stealth, which unstealths you, or you are using the skill too early.
if you use #2 AFTER the person starts the stomp animation, then you will NEVER unstealth before the animation finishes.
Lol “this is a fact”, unless you do it too early or too late … in which case it ignores stealth. So fine, you corrected the specifics, but the point is the same; unless you hit it at the sweet spot, you’re still dead.
-1:30-12:30 – SF 500 (que full ect), ET and FC (100-200)
I switch between maps constantly and rarely ever see a queue. Just so you know.
Also, question, do you see your own Orange Swords you create?
(edited by pulsecodesgnl.3470)
King, you’re being deluded because you believe that when people go to bed they’re just QQ’ing because of green starting to win.
Now Im not completely sure, but the biggest zerg I’ve EVER seen ET have is about 20. FC has had about 20 as well, although I remember one night we had around 30. I have about a hundred screen shots of that it was so memorable.
You should come back to the server so you know…But when we go to bed ET has people on at night or something…I wouldnt know because you know, I really dont try to talk about stuff that goes on when I am not around…
ET zergs get more than 20 people easily. I see ET and FC zergs both with more than 20 people almost daily, and usually in their borderlands. I believe the ET nightcap PvDoor zerg crew is generally around 35 minimum, based off of what I’ve seen/heard.
@Solori
Are you sure about the blind? Like Accelerion said, Shadow refuge also cancel stomp.
I fought a team in tPvP that kept using this tactic.
And Shadow Refuge doesn’t cast blind.
Doesn’t really matter whether it blinds or not, the fact is, even if you get skill 2 off with a Mesmer it does NOT guarantee you won’t be spiked/stomped, whatever. If your skill 2 ports you anywhere close to your original position, you will die, stealth or not.
Whether this is a bug or is intentional is a different matter, this is how it currently functions though, and survival is based on the RNG of landing in the right position because you cannot chose where you port to.
Can’t really blame the people who don’t check the forums regularly, but yes, even though the situation is aggravating, the excess of threads makes me feel bad for everyone else (other servers) wanting WvW discussion relevant to them.
Let’s unofficially make this linked thread the T8 thread as it’s rather self-explanatory. And try and keep the posts contained to a degree. It’s not like more posts will make the devs/designers read this anymore than they already do, any number times zero is still zero.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/T8-Frustration/first
@Dank
Mesmer 2 also stealth, so if you time it right, you shouldn’t have any issue with blink stomp.
The stealth doesn’t matter if you port in range of the stomp, it still kills you. This happens on my Mesmer constantly. And since you are at the mercy of RNG with the port, your complaints for 2 are even more ridiculous.
Yes we know Engi’s need downed skill buffs, that doesn’t mean everyone else needs nerfs, leave this thread alone now please.
I am sure, you too will realize futility as it stares you in the face when the torch light goes on. But if you think I am a deafest, bring the whole guild if you think it will make a difference, and lets see how long you last.
If only you could have seen my facepalm as I read over ‘deafest’… defeatist*. I fail, all arguments out the window
.
I entirely understand your sentiment though, especially when it’s been as consistent as it has for several weeks; trust me when I say you’re not the only ones who get the most out of WvW you can by negating the less lucrative/risk investment areas. And maybe I would get bored of it, I just know I had much more fun in WvW when we were losing, than lately when we have been winning.
If transfers were an option though (which they aren’t because of ANets crappy xfer system and its relationships with guilds) it would either be upwards to a losing mid-tier, or down to ET/FC.
It’s pretty easy to figure out really. You are pulling people from LA, and getting your forces together to overrun us, so, when the Out-Manned Buff pops up, that’s the clue to pretty much call it done, because the reality is, with how painful SF can out man us, any efforts to cap or defend at that point will be futile and wasted.
Not at all to be rude, but I don’t WvWvW to entertain other people, so, once I see that we are about to be steamrolled, what’s my motive to stay around?
What’s anyone’s motive? Give SF some free badges?.. Anyone for AC?
What a defeatist attitude. I enjoy coming up with new strats to capture keeps/camps quickly against much larger numbers. You’re absolutely right that it’s not your responsibility to entertain other people; but if you aren’t entertained by improving against a stronger force (especially the mindless PVDoor zergs that our masses seem to sport lately), then I feel bad for you. Those are the highlights of the game for me (or were when we weren’t top of the tier, I don’t get to experience that much anymore.)
Considering I had to back 14 pages to find a topic with a dev comment, and 17 pages to find a dev comment that was in a post that was not closed or moved. I’d say no, there is no dev for Ele’s and no dev’s monitoring these forums regularly.
It’s rather silly when the only dev’s commenting in the class forums is a dev who works on dungeons (Robert Hrouda in the Ranger forums).
ANet needs far better communication with their playerbase in my opinion. Beyond that the outstanding bugs in each of the class threads are ridiculous. For delaying expansion and large world content to work on the core of the game, the core must have been a lot more rotten than we all thought with these bugs going untouched.
No, no, no, and no. Of course, this is all anecdotal and regardless of the perceived opinion of the masses, means nothing.
EBay just dropped a Tier and Borlis Pass went up in that same tier… Glicko punish the server that dropped unless it roflstomp (You can even win by a large margin and still lose rating). Also Glicko give a handcap to the new server and unless it get roflstomped, it will most likely gain rating.
Ahh, I must have missed that last week. And yes, I am familiar with ratings drops if you don’t have a roflstomp win lol, trust me I need no reminding XD.
The number 2 is a port and a stealth.
It wins you between 2-3 second, even vs a good player. They can’t stomp you until they seee you.
The same way any number 2 work in the game.
Engineer number 2 interrupt for the same time as Mesmer number 2. Hell I would go farther and say mesmer interurpt for longer, since they port at random location. Our pull bring the ennemy TO US.
:)
So basically it’s like Rangers, except instead of healing via pet, you have another control skill AoE knockback with quite a bit of damage. Sounds like yours is just as situational as a Mesmer’s
Double the opponents score and lose rating again.
Le sigh, at least it wasn’t 50 points this time. Maybe this week we will actually go up slightly.
To be fair, if you want a challenge during NA primetime, try out ET/FC in tier 8 (ET is probably more viable based off of what I’ve fought lately if you don’t want to be completely rofflestomped). It will definitely test your skill and ability as a player, you WILL matter.
If you’re looking for a challenge in the Oceanic/EUR timeframes, SF needs assistance, our night crew seems to be rather small and we need someone to maintain our structures throughout the night and to help bump us into another tier.
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA
Hmm, maybe we will actually go up in points this week if it continues (+34 for SF atm). Too bad HoD is rising as well
.
sidenote: Also wtf @ EB/BP … +/-100 points?
What you are saying then is that “SF lacks the DESIRE to move into T7.” You are strategically chosing through your own actions to stick around in T8. Thank you for chosing to be nice and not utterly dominate us. I find that comforting that you enjoy my company that much. More mintz on my pillows please! The previous opponents actually capable of dominating ET were not nearly so considerate of our feelings.
To be fair, it is more fun fighting you guys after you cap keeps with your breakouts, than farming you at spawn. Maybe Kain found it more entertaining to camp you at spawn, SF usually looks down on spawn campers though during prime time map chat.
Don’t call old war stories Trolling. I have yet to see Eredon or Ferguson camped by SF in both EB and their Borderland for a day, let alone an entire week.
SF is but a disorganized Horde. Yes, they overwhelm, but once they leave, we can retake everything. A real server that wants to move up in tier wouldn’t allow us to retake. You can do it in EB pretty well, so why not the borderlands? Stonemist got your tongue?
You lack discipline and would never cut it if you were outmanned. I am glad you are not of my server.
Lol. Nationalism in the form of server loyalty, too funny. That being said, the game was newer when you went up against Kain, and they definitely had more numbers.
As for not having the numbers to man all maps? That’s obvious outside of prime time. Hence ET capping EB late night/morning. During prime time though? Lol, you’d be very surprised how many dedicated WvW players/guilds don’t come into WvW just because of how boring little to no resistance we receive, and how boring it has become.
Yes, the majority of players in SF WvW right now is a disorganized PvDoor horde. And yeah, we need more nightly numbers to hold that gap, right now it’s not worth upgrading/manning towers when we just lose them overnight. Yet when we make recruitment threads to bridge that nightly gap, we get flamed because we’re ‘already winning’.
So ehh, bring us a challenge, give us a chance and reason to show you what SF can really do. I can’t imagine your ET nightcapping via PvDoor is much fun for them after awhile.
The difference isn’t the interrupt, the difference is : Will my interrupt succeed?
The same thing applies for Mesmer, if you use your 2 skill at the wrong time or it ports you to right next to where you were, you still die.
Mesmer : Can only countered by no target stealth, or using it too early. Everything else will be interrupted.
Or just wait until the second Mesmer pops up after stealth … because then they are dead. Clearly you aren’t very familiar with Mesmer downed skills.
I’m often fighting 2-4 players in WvW, so yeah, I do a lot of rambo and Mesmer are a pain in downed state. Some of them do more damage downed then alive.
If I facepalm any harder I will have a permanent handmark. No mesmer does more damage in a downed state.
And I have to spike him, you can’t damage a downed mesmer, because confusion will hurt you like hells. And you don’t want them to summon their rogue.
If I facepalm any harder I will have a permanent handmark. No mesmer does more damage in a downed state, and confusion only really matters if it stacks on you (we can’t stack very many unless you stand in front of us forever doing nothing). Spiking isn’t hard, or really, just go ranged if you want to damage since our 1 skill can’t hit ranged worth jack.
And about the 1.5k, I deserve to receive higher damage. You are right, this is my issue. But if he hit me for 1.5k, I should hit him for around the same. I hit a GC player for around 500 damage crit, with some weaks conditon. How is that balanced? Does my random chill make up for it? Or my 2 stack of bleed?
Mesmer’s do not hit for 1.5k, you being dumb and attacking quickly with confusion will do that. Either remove it or get ranged.
You know what is the biggest issue? Elem-Mesmer are already top 1-3 in polls on the tPvP forum, and they also have the best downed state.
This isn’t sPvP/tPvP, invalid argument. Class balance from those realms should NOT crossover into WvW because of the PvE elements. If you want PvP, go sPvP/tPvP.
You’re WvW skills will be tempered in the hottest fires you’ll find on any server or matchup. We’ll be heavily outnumbered each and every night, but our wins will be that much sweeter. Our points are truly earned, and every person who plays makes a real difference.
As a SF WvW’er I am honestly envious. The PvDoor of the SF hivemind doesn’t allow the majority of us to improve our skill and strategy.
Thieves are much much worse in downed state than mesmers.
Why? I certainly do not feel OP in my thief downed state. What am I doing wrong lol?
It is ridiculously hard to get off Phantasmal Rogue when in the downed state unless the enemy is not paying any attention to you. And even if it does, it’s going to hurt for jack unless you’re fighting a full zerkers Mesmer. (and only then if they are lucky)
And the idea that Mesmers can keep up 8 stacks of confusion is ridiculously hilarious. Each skill 1 attack applies a short stack of confusion, if you’re seriously getting 8 maintained stacks you’re literally standing in front of a Mesmer watching it apply stacks to you. By the time you could even get 8 stacks (with cond duration), the Mes could have gotten up with 4. Not to mention that if you go ranged at all, the Mes can’t hit you.
These OP arguments are silly. If anything the only skill I ever get off is 2, and it’s stupidly predictable to kill a Mes using that skill, just kill the one with the red arrow above its head, and its the second one to spawn when they start to reveal themselves after stealthing.

Lmao, I think he’s arguing for removing the ability of the higher populated server to join a map, as opposed to removing the outmanned buff.
What a weird way to go about it, but yeah, the outmanned buff itself is fine. It doesn’t really do anything other than encourage farming mobs I guess if you are underpopulated.
I think it is going to be very hard to do unless they give some kind of incentive to transfer to low pop servers. Really, they can not force anyone to move to other servers they do not want to move to. If they so they will be opening themselves to a huge backlash of folks who already think Anet is too heavy-handed.
Maybe they can entice guilds by allowing them to transfer their Guilds to another server and keep their upgrades/etc/ intact.
Bolded is the biggest thing, people always throw the “well if you want to WvW go transfer into a higher tier”. It would be extremely hard to transfer our entire guild if we wanted to, beyond that it would kill everything we worked for, and with Guild Missions now, that is even more incentive to stay in once place as it takes 9-12 weeks to unlock based off of merit limitations (longer if starved for influence).
That being said, at this point we wouldn’t transfer anyway, we started out on Sorrow’s Furnace at launch and we intend to stay here. Sure would be nice if Anet provided incentive like that though so we could maybe snag some Oceanic WvW guilds for a night crew
.
I thought people were having fun destroying the weakest servers available. Your server has the whole map like 70% of the time. I don’t see why are you displeased. FC and ET should be the ones to whine.
Why in the world would battling a weaker opponent be fun? Where is the challenge in that? You also realize that when we have the map capped, there’s nothing to do but sit at the spawn, right?
ET/FC has the luxury of capping whatever they want and the chance to play around with new strategies with less numbers, I’d argue that their core WvW population is very strong, ours is dwindling due to boredom.
(edited by pulsecodesgnl.3470)
Let’s be honest, it’s not specifically winning that we’re going for here. We’re already winning, anyway.
If tier 8 were competitive, you wouldn’t see weeks upon weeks of new whine threads created by all 3 sides about the matchup balance. As it stands, it’s not like the floodgates are going to magically burst open with hundreds of primetime players transferring to FC and ET.
Would it balance the matchup? Sure it would. Is it something anyone could expect to happen? Absolutely not.
If SF got a decent Asian/Oceaniac presence, would it balance the matchup? Certainly not. We’d win by a bigger margin. But at least ET’s ever-growing night crew won’t have to beat down doors on undefended towers all day, and it’d probably go a long way in getting us out of T8.
It won’t balance T8 even in the long run since whomever drops from T7 to take our place is still going to be overqualified for T8 by miles, but the change in scenery for the burnt out players hiding in PvE on all 3 sides might come out again. Who knows, if it happens, maybe it’ll be ET’s turn this time to stomp on the new server for exactly one week they’re in T8 before domination begins anew.
The healthiest thing is still for ET and FC to get a decent daytime crew at the same time that SF and FC get a decent nighttime crew, but getting us out of T8 and giving all 3 sides in T8 a fresh matchup is at least a much-needed breather.
x2, agreed. The reality is, we’re looking for progression, and unless those of us participating during primetime are willing to quit our jobs, living off savings/go into debt, and play during the Oceanic timeframe; we need to recruit people to fill that timeslot, that’s all this thread is encompassing, and all we are looking for.
Oceanic peoples of the world, we need your help.
Same thing is happening on Sorrow’s Furnace, Tarnished Coast, and Fort Aspenwood. It’s really annoying
.
there is never “absolutely nothing to do” until your map looks like JQ’s did last week. i can’t find the screenshot, and i’m pressed for time, but they had EVERYTHING. quit ignoring Fergy. you’ll have something to do, then!
You obviously have not been on during prime time lately. And if you argue for the keeps thats fine and dandy, we’ll cap those get bored and leave, you’ll break out, some of the zerg will return and that process repeats.
If that is what you consider ‘something to do’ then maybe I just don’t enjoy WvW as you see it.
and now you know how we felt 2 weeks ago before our night/morning capper people came from wherever they came from. sorry. can’t really drum up any sympathy for you
Except you have the availability to do anything in the map if you can drum up enough people (and if you can’t I always enjoyed getting 2-3 people and roaming stealthily around the world). When we log in during prime time and everything is capped and there is absolutely nothing to do, I’d argue that’s a significant difference and is worthy of at least understanding.
My point (to illustrate the difference) is that if we had a fraction of our primetime representation across timezones it would help to boost us out of t8, and possibly garner another server that would be on FC/ET’s level. I really have no idea how skilled the t7 servers are though at this moment (we’ve been in t8 for far too long).
Yeah we definitely don’t need any more prime time. I’d argue that our prime time would probably compare with tiers higher than 7, outside of that we are lacking, especially coordinated efforts.
He’s problably talking about yesterday night… About 10am EST SF had more than 600ppt running and kept it for a while (they problably already had it for a while also).
We got over 600 around 7-8PM MST yesterday I believe, I’m really surprised that held until 10AM EST. What happened to ET’s night capping crew? Or did SF actually have numbers overnight?
Ah, maybe that’s what I saw. I believe I was in ET borderlands, so maybe I just noticed when you left. Still though, most maps seem rather underpopulated with our enemies lately.
There are no dead servers where these world events are concerned. Let me reiterate, I’m on one of the lower population servers, Fergusen’s Crossing, and it still has this overflow issue.
People ARE guesting to camp world bosses. The potential rewards for these world bosses are too enticing for some people. Anyone who thinks this is not happening does not fully understand the problem. It appears this problem is occuring on just about every server out there, both low and high populated servers.
You have zero proof that camping is the case. FC could be in the same situation as SF, in that it is a heavily PvE server and as more time goes, more people on the server are aware of the profitability, and since there is no incentive for these people to NOT come, more and more come each day to each event.
As a general request to this thread, please stop stating anecdotal evidence as fact, and using that as a case to posit a ‘factual’ solution.
Yeah we could definitely use some more Oceanic presence. You would be welcome’d with open arms
.
Yesterday was weird. Where was all the opposition we’ve recently seen from ET/FC? I ran around with a roaming party and it was barren. We encountered a zerg once, called it out, it was wiped and then they all left; almost felt bad for calling it out.
Did FC/ET give up again? I was just starting to have fun with the uprising
. If you’ve given up again, don’t tease us with your re-surge attempts. Otherwise I’d argue for you to rollover and let us 100% so we can hop out of t8 and be out of your hair sooner than later, because its not fun for us either.
Stop blaming guesting, guesting is most likely a small fraction of the problem, the fact that loot was made on par with what it should be only brought the problem to a head. Both of those are also based on unsubstantiated evidence and popular bias.
If you want my unsubstantiated opinion, the problem is it’s far too easy to check a site that has a TIMER so everyone jumps on, autoattacks, and gets loot. It needs to be more of an investment to get the loot, so make the bosses scale better, make them harder, and randomize spawn timers so those websites are invalided.
That ^ is just my opinion though.
This is bug forum, present the problem (lag around world meta events), and let Anet do it’s job with their developers and designers, and find a solution. You aren’t Anet, you don’t have the numbers and facts, stop positing solutions you deem as factual when you have no facts to base them on.
Just make it so you can only guest on servers where you have friends on. I don’t agree with randomizing and messing with the timers at all.
That is way too easily exploited, you’ll just have people on reddit and forums posting “add me to friends list for server access”. Beyond that, I like to guest on Tarnished Coast when I feel like playing with roleplayers, I don’t have any added friends there, and I don’t think it’s neccesary to restrict where I like to play for enjoyment in as opposed to playing WvW with my guild.
These events have their own problems. In my opinion, the population caps on these maps need to be lowered because it’s pretty clear none of the servers seem capable of providing a quality experience when so many players are merging on a single event. I’d rather have a cool 10 – 20 man fight with an outdoor boss than the chaotic mess plaguing the game now.
I’m not suggesting a map only allow 20 players on it, but they need to add a larger window to these spawn timers to discourage camping and shut down nearby waypoints to these events whenever they begin, which will eliminate people quick-traveling in. That will cut down on the numbers participating in the battles a bit.
As far as guesting, I feel a few things need to happen here:
- 1) There should be separate overflow queues, one for players native to the server and one for guests. And the native player’s queue to enter a map should always have priority over the guest’s queue. Only when there are no native players waiting to enter their home server’s map should the queue for guests advance.
- 2) There should be a limit placed on how many guests can occupy a particular map at any given time, with the majority of the overall occupancy slots being reserved for native players. To allow a situation where most of the occupancy slots on a map can potentially be used by players who are not even native to that server is ridiculous.
- 3) Players should not be allowed to guest to a particular server unless they’re currently grouped with a player who is actually a native of the server in question. The intention of the guest feature is to allow friends on different servers to play together. It was not meant to be a tool to help players farm more easily. If you’re not on the server as a guest of a friend, you don’t need to be there. This also ensures that any one native can not invite more than 4 other “guests” to his home server.
Sure, that could be inconvenient, but the person who shouldn’t be inconvenienced is me when all I want to do is something as basic and understandable as playing on my home server. As a resident I should never lose a spot to a guest.
Maybe that’s harsh, but people are abusing the guesting feature. The intention was to join up with friends on different servers, not hop to other servers to take advantage of event timers, etc.
Guesting is not being abused, third party applications are. All of your steps are well thought out and nice, but entirely unnecessary if you change one simple thing, “the time events occur”.
Randomize when these bosses/events happen so that they can’t be dictated and announced for EZLOOTs to everyone on every server, and bandwagoners will relatively vanish once they are required to put even a slight amount of effort into it.
Please forgive any redundancy my post may contain. I’m at work and a meeting is about to start. Just wanted to put in my two cents:
Participated in my first guild bounty last night. I was lucky enough to be in the right overflow/actual-server to fight one of the two targets. Most of the guildies participating were either too far away to reach the target or sent to different overflows.
My target was near the Jormag area, which was packed with people waiting for that event to start. It’s no wonder that our guild was split up onto different overflows. With a world map as large as GW2, why wouldn’t guild bounties be placed in more remote areas?
On the positive side, it was pretty exciting and the rewards are good. You just have to be really lucky to have any success with it. Even if you’re in a large guild, the time window is small and you still might be excluded by being pushed onto an overflow.
This is a big problem in my opinion, especially for guilds that are not super large, and are managing their influence spending and guild time carefully. It relates back to the other threads that people are blaming on guesting. So my obligatory comment, ANet please randomize the events and invalidate all these website timers.
Outside of that though, and the lack of clarity with guild commendations, I have enjoyed guild missions thoroughly so far.
In one of the pre-patch infos there was something about treks not giving commendations (because they are so easy, or something). Not sure how that works now, however.
Do you bychance have a link to source that information? It would be greatly appreciated.
No one thought Anet was crazy enough to make us work 6 weeks for 1 item. There was never any actual source for that, it was just assumed to be common sense.
But now it looks like we were completely off base.
That’s also an assumption as well, with no verification :P. Guild Missions were bugged when they were first launched, it isn’t unfathomable that another bug got past or was introduced with whatever they fixed after the first patch. Clarification is definitely needed here.
Sounds more like a bug…
I agree, but unfortunately (and maybe I missed something obvious as I looked it over) I couldn’t find any official information one way or another, the wiki statement doesn’t seem to be sourced.
Ah lame, the forum search sucks then, I couldn’t find any other posts inquiring about it. We really do need an explanation though, lack of clarity isn’t fun or entertaining for anyone when it has nothing to do with exploration as opposed to equating where time in game should be spent.
I noticed in this reddit thread that Dulfy posted some information about her experience with Guild Trek and the rewards obtained related to Guild Commendations.
Which she also illustrated on her site with the Guild Trek section.
“Guild Treks do not reward any Guild Commendations.”
So my question is, to dev or anyone that knows, is this functioning as intended?
Based on the Flame and Frost update information specifically about the Guild Missions it lists that “These [2 Commendations] can only be earned once per week per guild mission type.”
Is Trek not considered a valid type for some reason? If this is functioning as intended will Rush, Challenge, and Puzzle also not reward 2 commendations per type? Are we limited to basically 2 commendations per week forever?
If someone has information that this is not working as intended, I can create a post in the bug forum, I’d like to have confirmation beforehand though.
Thanks.
guesting should be removed again right away, serves no purpose besides lagging and screwing other players.
when u want to play with your “friends” then pay the money and server transfer or start on a new server
Sorrow’s Furnace is a low-pop PvE server, ‘guesting’ is not a problem and we lag horrendously. The issue is that it’s too easy port and get your auto-loot because the timers are too reliable.
I disagree.
Before changes in the loot I never experienced any form of lag or overflow.
Now I end up in overflow unless I arrive minimum 10 mins before the spawn window actually opens. The timers were there long before this became an issue – don’t blame them.
Whether you disagree or not, if the sites timers were gone, there wouldn’t be the mass influx of people in the same area as consistently. The ‘guesting’ excuse would be invalidated unless you were in a guild on another server (minority), the mass amount of players excuse would be gone as well, because people in MMOs are inherently lazy (see all the gimme something for nothing posts).
Beyond that, the game would function as it was originally designed to and aimed for, without removing functionality that benefits everyone. The timers need to go, it’s more ‘exploitative’ than ‘guesting’ is. You do no work (clicking on a WP and autoattacking), for a significant reward.
Alright, first off, let’s get to the root of the problem. The problem is not that loot is better, nor that there is guesting, nor that you can get chests on alts.
The problem is the timers.
You should be incentivized for exploring the world, and coming upon those events. Being in guilds that can call them out when they are seen. You shouldn’t be relying on a third party website that tracks the times, lets everyone come in and camp waiting for the event. What ideally should be done, is make those timers more random so those sites are invalid, and people aren’t timing out those events so the mass populus doesn’t converge at the exact same time.
If the timers were gone, the problem of extreme server lag would be as well, because it would require slightly more effort that most people aren’t willing to put the time investment in for, and beyond that it would make it more rewarding to get to the event.
edit: Also, don’t be dumb, this isn’t “exploiting”, stop trying to reinvent terms to demonize people.

Le sigh, another week of destroying ET/FC and losing rating. Looks like that’s what’ll happen this week as well.
