Sorrow’s Furnace – Commander/Officer
Kabal of the Righteous [Seed]
Rangers have their highs and lows like every other class. They have really good DPS, but they have to work at it a bit more than other classes like warrior or mesmer. It’s possible just not as easy.
As for ranger balance, we have frequent meetings about balance where we discuss that sort of stuff – I go to those meetings on behalf of dungeon content and to lend my experience with ranger knowledge.I personally accept the tradeoff of damage for survivability (Can’t do damage if you’re dead). I tend to run a condition build using shortbow and sword\dagger, and focus on being supportive and holding aggro while keeping a steady output of DPS through conditions. Rangers have an incredible amount of evasion and damage mitigation if you are very focused and know when to use your skills and heals (prot on dodge roll, vigor on heals) means you can keep prot for when you mess up, and always have evasions ready. There are some very successful dungeon builds, but most of them aren’t DPS focused.
We’re working on ideas for making pets better in dungeons. There’s a list of reasons we can’t just tweak a number and call it good (it wouldn’t actually solve the problem), but it is something we are aware of and working on.
One of the things you have to think about, is how the game is played. If we buff rangers just for dungeons, than they are too strong for the open world. Considering I can solo most content in the open world by letting my pet tank, I feel ranger is very powerful outside of dungeons. We can’t have rangers that change based on PvP, open world, and dungeons because that gets too confusing for players and puts us on a slippery slope. Whatever we do to the ranger, it has to happen in both the open world and dungeons, so it requires more than just number tweaks. You see a lot of bots as rangers for that very reason – they are really strong open world classes, and buffing them for the sake of dungeons doesn’t work out to being a good fix.Wow this is getting long. I should go to the class balance forums some time, lol. Sorry for the text wall!
Thanks for the response, and I entirely agree. Open world is great for a Ranger, which is why I was so surprised that I was lacking in dungeons as badly as I was (as I hadn’t run dungeons until I hit 80). Looking forward to what will come with pets in dungeons.
I personally play Ranger as my main, so I’m fairly aware of how to manage the pet, and do my testing as a ranger primarily. What mechanic do you feel is expressly punishing to a ranger pet?
I’m more than aware of how squishy pets can be in dungeons, but if you could list out all the issues you are speaking of, I can try and address them.
Inquiry for you then (regarding Rangers in dungeons). My first level 80 was a Ranger and I loved the skills and gameplay, A LOT. At first I had a mix between damage and survivability and thought I was doing fine damage-wise; I mean, I survived, I was constantly doing damage, had a intuitive and on-demand rotation that kept max damage up, and contributed to the party in a lot of ways in lieu of support as well, or so I thought.
I began to question how I compared to other players to improve my playstyle and found that my damage was incredibly paltry, that other players (not even spec’d for damage) could down mobs and do more damage in general. So I conversed with a guildie on his damage Ranger spec, came up with my own to maximize damage output and noticed the difference in DPS quite obviously yet I was still far behind other classes and non-DPS builds.
Now this same guildie (who has spent 1500 hours on this main Ranger of his and played every facet of the game) came to the same consensus a long time ago. The fact that Rangers simply do less damage in a damage spec than pretty much any other class (maybe Condition Necro if you argue bleedcaps).
That being said and moving onto the dungeon part, once you get to a point in this game where you have accomplished most everything as far as the main content goes you aim for the vanity (e.g. skins) which are accomplished by repeating content (farming dungeon tokens). Grouping up with people as a Ranger is a risky process, not just because of how the group will tolerate you, but because the composition of a group may require that someone with more skill help carry them to a degree, and that simply cannot be done with a Ranger. Every Ranger build I have experimented with has a ‘better’-version in some other class/build. Rangers were promised attention months ago, and as a result received buffs to their Underwater skills
.
As a player of a Ranger in dungeons, do you not agree with this assessment? If not, is there something that we are doing wrong as players that make Rangers more viable? Is this concern still being looked into by the designers? And as a fellow Ranger player, do you ever speak on our behalf?
Going to SF is likely the wrost thing a player can do… They will be forever stuck in a server that will never leave T8, and hardly can have some fun because they are either fully dominating due high numbers (PvDoor) or being pushed back.
I wouldn’t advise transfers to SF right now, the WvW population is becoming hostile because we are sick of it. Tired of losing rating for winning by a significant margin. That being said, even if ET or FC had enough transfers to be competitive, I can’t imagine any of our servers would pull our of tier 8 anytime soon, like say for the next 6 months or so, unless something dramatic changes on Anets end.
Please do something to resolve this detrimental system Anet.
http://i.imgur.com/8qsBpps.png
This is really hurting Sorrow’s Furnace WvW population. I don’t find any of the quality Commanders (other than CoSA) in WvW anymore, and talking to the ones who used to be in there its all of the same general consensus.
The quality of players and strategy that we gathered to try push ourselves out of Tier 8 is going away. We should not be punished for not 100%’ing the entire map constantly when there is absolutely nothing fun or entertaining about it.
I mean it’s to the point that the only map chat I see anymore is Commanders asking for status updates, with trolling responses because nobody cares. The lack of versatility with this system is going to turn SF into a legitimate Tier 8 server by method of boredom and lack of purpose, if that’s your goal then congratulations it looks like it will be accomplished soon.
The game should be fun and enjoyable in any tier, it’s just frustrating and fruitless anymore.

What was the OP infracted for with this post o.O? Have mods got crazynazi?
I didn’t read the whole thread, sorry. Just wanted to throw a post out there about the topic. Arenanet so far has been good at creating a system, tweaking the system, improving the system and so on with small adjustments after a data gathering period. Now that free transfers are closed, they are gathering data. Any adjustments to the system will be based on that data. A reasonable period is anywhere from 4 weeks to 16 weeks of data in order to make adjustments to the ranking system. Without the data, any changes right now could do more harm than good.
I realize it sucks being stuck at the bottom playing the same teams. Until anet makes a change you have 3 choices.
1. Play for the fun and forget the score.
2. Convince your server and the other losing server to really tank for a week or two to let the winning server move up.
3. Convince your server to rally and make a stand to push for 1st (by a large margin) in your tier for 2 weeks straight.
Lol. You probably should have read the thread, ET/FC tried allying and it didn’t really do them much benefit, now that SF is bored of dominating t8 and most of the heavy WvW’ers have left, they actually stand a chance of not being completely dominated, only mostly dominated
. It’s still a pain for them to get World Completion because of the amount of real estate that SF owns when we’re not really trying.
There are several issues there that need to be addressed in my opinion.
It’s excellent for WvW as a zerg pushback, especially along narrow areas like bridges. I love kicking it off and watching people fly off the bridge as they try and run backwards.
That’s about all I ever use it for though.
I’ve never seen it happen. I’ve hit them with knockback during it, does nothing. Hit them with immobilize, does nothing. Tried to slow them down with chill and cripple, does nothing. If it’s supposed to stop them in their tracks, I’m not seeing it.
Then you’re doing it wrong. Immobilize is the bane of my RTL. Chill and cripple aren’t effective though as you said until after RTL is over, knockback’s do in fact knock you as well, assuming you actually hit me though.
OP is a bit myopic. If I had to guess, I’d say the dev team wants bunkers and glass cannons to be the outliers on a bell curve, and “balanced” builds to predominate.
I’m not saying these “balanced” builds exist yet, but it is a smart and reasonable aspiration for the dev team, given that too much bunker and glass cannon results in shallow play.
Except this nerfed my balanced aurasharing build which wasn’t standard. I didn’t go for the cookie cutter route, I went for a group support route, which is now invalidated because of the halving of boons and the halving of damage mitigation that I used to recieve from Cantrips, the only viable method for this now is to get rid of other support traits and to be forced to put 30 points in Arcana (which I was trying largely to avoid).
So I’ve said screw it and am now rocking a cookie cutter damage build, yeah, it’s still as in-depth and relatively as fun as my other build, but it doesn’t feel as personal and as well built as one that I carefully planned out myself.
I’m dissapointed this is the route they took if they wanted to nerf bunker Ele’s.
Yeah fwiw, I’ve been talking to a few guilds that used to WvW frequently (aka daily) and they’ve pretty much given up to do other things, it became too boring in WvW with nothing to do, the majority of the quality that was associated with taking the map quickly was replaced by PvE bandwagoner’s that came in to troll not only the enemies (FC/ET) but other SF players.
The griefing and in-fighting just isn’t worth sitting in WvW with nothing to do. Especially when the chance of moving up requires us to have consistent blow outs for a month or two to even have a chance at moving up a tier.
That being said, it definitely seems like ET has been manning more people, later in the day and into the night. I’ve never had culling bomb problems as late as I did last night from ET, it was interesting.
I’m not sure where my feelings are on the status of tier 8 at the moment. I think it’s great that ET/FC are doing better and stepping up a bit, but it’s really disheartening that SF just doesn’t care anymore so you guys are left with trolls, and mindless zergs.
Yeah, there still are a few good guild groups/commanders out in the field, but they don’t have the quality people to work with anymore to get things done, nor are they sticking around on the battlefield as long as they used to.
I can’t believe this lol. The infamous bunker spec and aurashare are now more powerful, and every other spec has been nerfed indirectly thanks to the RtL changes.
Way to deal with the root of the problem ANet!
You have no idea what you are you talking about, nor have you paid attention to this thread at all.
Man I really am miffed about this. Why nerf things that function correctly that people have built things around, yet refuse to fix the excess list of bugs that have been around for half a year now.
I’ll get over this eventually I’m sure, I’m just really bummed that I’ve had to kill two different builds because of patch changes now.
I mean hell, nerf my kitten Warrior, it’s at least fairly boring to play in comparison.
EA will hurt but isn’t dramatic.
RTL is OK
All the rest is peachy. This however:
Stealth nerfs (or at least some of them): Soothing disruption now only gives 5 seconds of regeneration and vigor. Shocking Aura now only gives 5 seconds of swiftness and fury when used with zephyr’s boon.
I don’t understand why they can’t just tell us everything -.-
… is painful!
Yeah I don’t understand these changes at all. I was using an uncommon build, I rely on vigor/regen during stress moments in dungeons, thats what my cantrips are for. And the nerf to Zephyr’s Boon is ridiculous, every other class has some way of maintaining fury far more reliably (good god don’t even compare warriors amiryte?), why was this even done?
Can someone verify the Shocking Aura/Zephyr and Soothing Disruption nerf? I use those heavily in my build
.
I didn’t mind dying as much in the old dungeons because it only cost me a few silver to fix per run, which is a drop in the bucket compared to what I was making back so it didn’t really bother me.
If anything I’ve seen runs go smoother and much faster since the change because people are not as willing to make the dumb mistakes. And compared to the past money making? Really? You might want to switch out who you are running dungeons with if it’s really taking you that much longer.
The new Magg event, for example, is pretty cool, but more frustrating than the old method if players start dying because there’s absolutely no time to waste rezzing anyone. That’s the real problem with the “no rez rush” philosophy, it only works if nobody dies. Ever. I know you seem to believe that players should be capable of rezzing dead team mates, but that’s just silly, it takes waaaaaaaay too long to be practical in any situation that is deadly enough that it would have killed someone in the first place. Most dungeon events tend to have either a time factor or an “infinite spawning until complete” factor, either of which makes it impossible for even one character to waste time trying to rez another, especially given that the group is already a man down.
This sounds cliche and elitist, but this is really a learn to play issue, and again it sounds like you are running around with people that are unable to pick up on game mechanics very well, or are unwilling to change up strategies.
I have no problem ressing party members during the defend Magg event, and if it’s really that much of a problem try having the party utilize their downed party member res skills (e.g. warbanner, pet res, shadow refuge), it’s really not that difficult.
If you want to talk different strategies feel free to PM me or start another thread, I know I’ve tried a variety with different group compositions leading to a lot of interesting results and would be glad to share them, that however is not the issue for this thread in my opinion.
Guilds that (a) have figured it out and (b) have exceptionally patient teachers, people who are willing to have it take a lot longer to get to the reward chest because they have to stop to type, including answering questions, before each fight, will work out the way that you think it will. My experience with MMOs tells me that such teachers are so rare that there will never been enough of them to go around, that not 1 player in 20 will ever get to play alongside one.
Then my guild is apparently in said minority. We have no problem teaching our unfamiliar members how to run dungeons, and then they go forward and teach other members and pugs what they know as they run them. Despite running with guildies often, we also frequently pug via gw2lfg.com and more often than not come across people who are competent or even more skilled and teach us a thing or to.
Guild Wars 2 has a very nurturing environment, I think you are taking on way too cynical of an attitude.
(edited by pulsecodesgnl.3470)
Ah, clarification appreciated. Getting a little tired of repeating myself on the ‘they deserve to stay in t8’ sentiments.
As advised, taking a walk and cooling off. :P
It was only partially Free Transfers, the other part was Wintersday ending and the PvE community getting back into WvW. No one is saying we didn’t deserve to initially be in T8, but we have been slaughtering them for quite a while now since we regathered.
The fact that we are destroying them as much as we are with a rating drop is significant to how detrimental the scoring system is.
SF’s situation is very different from Kaineng, they’re not going to get a sudden massive player base now that server transfers are paid, so they wont be able to blitz through tiers. They’re winning the way they’re intended to win and additions to their player base are from their own server with renewed interest along with their w3 regulars. Kaineng would likely be where SF is right now had that sudden mass transfer rush not happened before paid transfers, those massive shifts wont happen again now.
Not as different as you would think.
We already got a sudden rush of players before the free transfers ended. Both returning from other servers and actual transfers from higher tiers (namely SoR). Not as massive as Kaineng, but the dynamic is still very clearly there.
“They’re winning the way they’re intended to win” comes off as writing us off as fitting in place here. If ‘intended’ is roflstomping ET/FC week after week while our rating drops, then what’s intended needs to change.
And how would you know whether it’s similar or not, are you here and just trolling as Mag?
SF outnumbers ET/FC pretty heavily during daytime and primetime at least.
That being said Orikx has a good point, when I am roaming borderlands with my guildies, I hardly ever see well co-ordinated groups of 5-10~ ish. It’s either single players, or zergs.
I did run into a 5 man group yesterday, it was a rare sight, but they weren’t very co-ordinated, trolled them around in circles with my Ele, while my guildies picked the stragglers that fell behind off.
I hereby deem this thread as the “2/22-3/1 Eredon/Ferguson thread”
OP, plz feel free to rename as well. Us SF’ers will just sit back, munchin’ popcorn, rollin’ keeps to watch the ants scurry.
Glicko is horrible but all it takes is a complete blowout or two to jump a tier.
Lol…
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/22#NA
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/21#NA
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/20#NA
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/19#NA
Yes, they haven’t been as extreme, but the consistency and similar history in the past would prove your case wrong. A blowout will not improve your score if your previous score was also a large margin. That’s how Glicko2 works.
so what if you improved? that DOES NOT MEAN that noone else did. SF probably had the same amount or less of transfers. maybe if you used, dare i say it, STRATEGY, you could take stuff. maybe never will you take SM, but you will make a difference. taking a keep by hitting 2 entrances with trebs while secretly pounding down a third entrance is GREAT fun.
*faceplam. We usually own all four maps. What more do we need to take to move up a tier eh? I feel like I’m being trolled here -_-.
The problem being, of course, Anet isn’t going to disrupt every other tier just to give SF a chance to “prove themselves” in a tier that they may, or may not, be competitive in.
Not a lot of people are saying the ratings system is fine, it’s a known and mostly agreed upon problem.
But people also seem to be realizing that the ratings system is not the biggest problem we have right now, and fixing the ratings is not going to make matches any more balanced. Increased volatility would hurt a lot of tiers just to have the potential to fix tier 8.People have suggested putting a ratings floor on tier 8 to prevent servers from falling too far to recover. I have no issue with this, I can’t see it negatively affecting the other tiers. Not that I get to make the decision for Anet, but I would support that idea.
I am not arguing for manual fixing of ratings, in fact I’m going to go as far as saying that I don’t have a fix (there are plenty of viable options but I don’t want to get into them).
My entire point was educational, there are still those that believe this is for the best, I am only trying to point out how that is not the case, that it is in fact detrimental, and in some way it needs to be changed. Are there other things that need to be fixed? Sure, but this is a significant issue for those of us trying to enjoy the game in our tier, and doesn’t need to be neglected for that fact.
OMFG ALL THE OTHER SERVERS WOULD BE WORSE THAN SF!!!!! there is a reason SF is in T8.
while this is quite unfortunate for t8 i dont think you guys will fare much better against any of the servers in t7, honestly if you care about WvW that much, i dont think t8 is the place for you at this point
These kind of posts show you guys clearly have no understanding of what the situation is, how the scoring system is detrimental, and instead have some misguided notion that the system is behaving correctly for the benefit of everyone.
We have a very established guild on our server, many actives and many casuals, there is no way we are going to migrate 200-300 accounts to a new server when the transfer fees are expensive as they are. Beyond that, because of the way guild’s are currently structured, we would lose our hundreds of thousands of built up influence, existing upgrades and bonuses that our guild has earned over the past 6 months.
Moving is not an option.
Months ago we landed in tier 8, and at that time we relatively deserved to land in there, as I have posted many times before we have had our PvE playerbase come back from events (Wintersday), several transfers from higher tiers, and co-ordinated Commanders / Guilds for tactics ON TOP of having excess numbers for zergs.
We have improved, A LOT. Our WvW guilds are growing bored again, and are suffering because of the scoring system. Because of the balance in the higher tiers, servers have a chance to bounce back and forth and be tested amongst other tiers.
Getting thrown in Tier 8 against two undermanned/underpowered servers sucks the availability for progress which is what the ranking system is dependant on. When we completely wipe the floor with these two tiers our score goes up a negligible amount, if for some reason they decide to put any kind of a fight, and instead of winning them by a vast majority, we win by an average majority we lose a significant amount of points that prevent us from having the same ‘chance’ that higher tiers have.
You can say things are fine all you want, and argue about whether SF would do fine in higher tiers, the reality is though, we do not have the opportunity to prove that. Unless something dramatic happens in the higher tiers, we are stuck here for what appears to be more months on end, despite the months we’ve already been here.
Alright FC/ET, here’s the deal. You guys have rallied, and the last few days you’ve appeared to have more numbers than I have seen in awhile. It has been a LOT of fun, because there’s actually something to do.
So my plea, please keep it up. I will not mind dropping 40-70 points if there will be consistent numbers to keep the battle interesting.
That being said, last night I grouped with a few of our commanders as we wiped you guys out of EB, and then subsequently out of the ET borderlands before I got offline and I became slightly concerned again.
I don’t know if it was SF lacking numbers the last few days (because boredom is a prevalent issue for many SF WvW’ers), or what, but yeah I don’t want to sink ratings again and be stuck here for another month or two if we can’t keep up the fights we’ve had.
I like that Guild Missions are in Art of War level 5. Many reasons why, just wanted to input that not everyone is crying about this, and would prefer it not be changed because of excess complaining.
Lol Detharos, you need a TL;DR on pretty much every post. Or really could just cut down on the redundancy, I’m starting to skip your posts when I read through here XD.
ET, you guys put up some amazing fights last afternoon/night in your own BL. I haven’t had that much fun in WvW in a long time. I hope you guys keep it up the following week.
edit edit: *sigh. Second time running to each map and I finally found it.
A missing reward? Or it popped out without any obvious reason?
What map was your last one?
It was a zone completion rewards chest. I hadn’t opened it yet. I loaded into Rata Sum (as the final map I needed to check after my enjoyable world tour for the 2nd time) and sitting there on the right hand side above the map were two icons, a Chest (zone completion) and a yellow and blue star (world completion).
Opened them both and got my reward. I would suggest just going to each map/zone, and making sure you check above your minimap for the rewards chests.
Just as an update, I posted earlier I could not get my reward. I ran again through each map today, and finally found it (yes, somehow I missed opening a chest until I got into the map for the third time -_- *sigh).
Anyway, just run around to each zone, and hopefully youll find the chest that you didnt open that will give you the world completion rewards.
Have you revisited all 4 WvW maps?
Have you revisited all areas?I had 2 friends with exact the same problem… and each time it ended with. “Oh… I haven’t accepted the reward here”…
And each of them was so sure it wasn’t he’s issue, but a bug…
As I said in the other “100% = no gift” thread:
And as I’ve posted (three times now XD) I revisited all zones/maps (twice now). Yes, including the WvW ones, which I just did yet again, just in case.
No reward chests popped up for the zone, and still no world completion rewards either.
edit: as an update, I just went and completed mapping Southsun as well. Still nothing -_-.
edit edit: *sigh. Second time running to each map and I finally found it.
(edited by pulsecodesgnl.3470)
Hey Eks, I’ve run into the same problem (last night) still having the problem.
My post is here for reference.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/100-World-Completion-no-rewards-1/first#post1462087
If you are talking about Mafic Core, or Isgarren’s View, I already have those, and as I said. I already have 100% Map Completion, so I’m not missing any points that need to be discovered according to the game.
I unfortunately have not seen a ‘gold star’ above my mini map though. Thanks for the tips, but still, no go.
So this is still a problem for me, I’ve submitted a ticket, submitted a bug report, and posted here…
Is there anything else I need to do, or am I just at the point of waiting now? It’s really disheartening to think that I may not get my Gifts of Exploration needed for crafting my Legendary.
Hey, I just got mine to work; go to the deadend waypoint in bloodtide coast and go into the cave/order of whispers cave.
edit: mantis blackstorm (in game name) gave me the tip in LA, Kaineng server.
Yeah, I did that. Twice actually. That’s how it’s been bugged for most people. Just tried again (for a third time).
No go
.
Lame, I wonder if something broke lately. Also as an update, I finished visiting all zones again just in case (holy waste of money
), and checked out PoIs in Heart of the Mists.
No luck.
Alright, so as the title says. I finally got 100% World Completion tonight, and got the Been There, Done That achievement. However, I didn’t get any rewards, is there anything I need to do first?
I tried going to Chantry of Secrets.
I tried going to all of the main cities.
Currently visiting all the old maps (for the food skills point bug)
But as far as I am aware, these only effect actually obtaining 100%. Has this happened to anyone else before
? What do I need to do.
edit: resolved see final post.
(edited by pulsecodesgnl.3470)
I know that a Glob of Ecto is literally a crafting material, my original question was about the droprate, and it’s relevance to the other droprate sections, such as “chance to drop rarer materials”, which I have a very hard time proving it is a part of, and so did you apparently.
Upgrades are irrelevant, I don’t consider Ecto’s upgrades, I was just pointing out how the droprate was closer to upgrades than it was to ‘rarer materials’, helping to illustrate the invalidation of that claim.
I don’t know what your 90% is not 100% statement was being made at, I know you are not guaranteed an Ecto, and just because a Black Lion salvage kit has an average 110% return does not mean that’s guaranteed either, only that on average over several salvagings you will obtain slightly more than one ecto per salvage…
Despite the fact that I just realized that I couldn’t MF them, and just sold off about 10-15 Superior Runes obtained from dungeons that I could’ve changed into something useful … I totally support this.
Don’t know why this defies how any other section of materials in this game works.
Now if they all spread out based on the assumed even amount:
(based on BLSK)
Rares – 0 @ 25%, 1 @ 25%, 2 @ 25%, 3 @ 25%. This would provides a 75% chance of receiving an ectoplasm if in favor of the 50% salvaging rate.
Exotics – 0 @ 16.6%, 1 @ 16.6%, 2 @ 16.6%, 3 @ 16.6%, 4 @ 16.6%, 5 @ 16.6%. This would provide an approximate 83% chance of receiving an ectoplasm if in favor of the 50% salvaging rate.At the end, it result in RNG as many people will result in 0 ectoplasm in return. At the same time you or I would receive many ectoplasms in return.
“Untiered rare crafting materials include:
Glob of Ectoplasm”
Your assumptions are flawed (no offense); but if in fact the number for rarer materials refers to Globs of Ectoplasm we have to make the following assumptions there is a 25% chance to obtain a rarer material (e.g. Ecto) and a 75% chance to obtain no upgrade.
Within the 25%, assuming the drop chances are evenly distributed there is a 1/3rd chance to obtain either 1, 2, or 3 Ectos from salvaging a rare item with a Mystic/Master kit. This means that adding the chance of each possible drop together you will achieve an average of .5 Ectos for every attempt.
25% * 100% (at least one Ecto)
+
25% * 66.6% (at least two Ectos)
+
25% * 33.3% (three Ectos)
=
50%
This would also mean with a Black Lion kit, you have an average of 1 Ecto per attempt. Now, while the Black Lion kit numbers 1 Ecto per attempt closely match the crowdsourced data value of 110% returns. The returns for using a Mystic/Master kit are excessively low. Most people who salvage for Ecto’s can tell you that the return rate is over .5 easily, and based on the crowdsourced data of 90%, obviously flawed in some manner.
When you salvage a rare, you have a pretty significant chance of not getting an ecto – I would estimate it at 25-30%.
In large samples, it generally averages out to about 900 ecto per 1000 salvages (with Masters Kits)
People read that and then assume that if they salvage a rare, they have a 90% chance of getting an ecto – which is not the case at all.
Anet does not say what the ecto salvage rates are, but they have said that if they change them, they will make it known in patch notes.
Chance and average are not the same thing, though in many ways in this case they appear to be. And while I realize that they have said they will make it known if changes are made, the entire point of this thread is asking Anet for clarification on what the salvage rates are, and if that information cannot be shared, why that it is :P. So at this moment, my original question (unfortunately) still stands.
edit: fixed a missing negative.
(edited by pulsecodesgnl.3470)
Then if it is in fact a ‘rare material’ the droprate is bugged, and it drops far more frequently than it should.
From my experience, ‘rare material’ just refers to an upgrade of the base component used to craft the item, if its light armor you will get cloth back, if it upgrades you’ll get the next tier.
Example: If I salvage a bunch of tier 4 light armor I will get mostly linen back, but there is a chance that I can receive silk, this has been verified by many people and is easily searchable.
Now, because it is a rarer material and is technically an upgrade, that can get confused with “recovering upgrades”, and for the sake of clarity, those kinds of upgrades refer to runes, sigils, gem bonuses, etc.
This is easily verifiable information, and is discussed thoroughly on the wiki pages both in the article and in the discussion sections below:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_kit
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upgrade_component

In the end, the droprate for Ecto’s do not match neither ‘rarer material’ nor ‘upgrade’. Based on following the market forums and trading regularly, I would assume a significant error in droprate (what should be .25 but is actually .90) would’ve been fixed long ago.
Therefore, ecto has a droprate separate from either and deserves some kind of clarification since in-game information is severely lacking.
The “Chance of rarer materials” on a Mystic/Master’s kit is 25% and a Black Lion Kit is 50%, I know the droprate is higher than that. Otherwise me and several other people have been absurdly lucky (which I highly doubt is the case).
The “Chance of recovering upgrades” on a Mystic/Master’s kit is 80% and a Black Lion Kit is 100%, while this is closer in line, I know for a fact (as I have used maybe 10+ stacks of Black Lion Kits now) that the droprate for Ecto’s using a BLKit is not 100%.
If they reduce the amount of materials for the pre-infused version I want my ectos/money back
. That took me a long time.
Just out of curiosity, is there a reason that we have the percentage variable for “Chance of rarer materials” and “Chance of recovering upgrades”, but no reliable information regarding “Chance to drop Globs of Ectoplasm”?
AFAIK Globs of Ectoplasm are not considered ‘rarer materials’ or ‘upgrades’ for those percentage tables, correct? Since the general (anecdotal) consensus with a Master’s/Mystic Salvage Kit is generally around 90%.
Could we get clarification on either what percentage, or what determines droprate for Globs of Ectoplasm? Or at least clarification on why we can’t/don’t have that information?
If it’s already been answered please point me in the right direction and forgive my redundancy.
Thanks in advance.
Maintenence was scheduled much earlier, it should be done by now, and it doesn’t say anything about affecting the wiki.
So once upon a time I was on Sorrow’s Furnace for like three and a half months. Then I converted to the cult of The Great Lord Flame Ram a month and a half ago and never looked back. Except when people try to call me ignorant for thinking SF would not do well in Tier 7.
Your assumption that SF of a month and a half/two months ago is the same SF now, is just as laughable. There’s a lot that has improved, and I’m not just referring to numbers; but the lull of constantly winning is now having the opposite effect.
The alliances and cross guild/commander coordination is stagnating, most people are bored out of their minds in WvW on SF. So yeah, if we went to tier 7 could we be hit hard? Absolutely. Not because of skill and numbers, but because Anet refuses to resolve stagnation amongst the lower tiers and it’s effect will remain even after it’s resolved.
I like how you argue numbers but provide none Rob, it’s pretty intelligent, bro. Get out of this thread as you are detracting from the point. The reality is, SF is roflstomping ET and FC, it needs to change, its not fun for anyone.
This isn’t like Kaineng, which was stuck there since the start. This is SF being put there after being tested.
Except Kaineng went up because of transfers… which is exactly what has happened with SF. We had a substantial amount of guilds transfer in from higher tiers before free transfers ended, the SF that you claim has been tested so well is entirely different than the one you encountered beforehand, most of those guilds actually left when we were on our decline.
I’m not saying we’re going to wipe any other tier, I just think you shouldn’t write us off that quickly because you played against us what 2-3 months ago now.
Agreed, it was amazing how many guilds started to co-ordinate, schedule meetings, alliances, etc because of the impending doom that was to be. Now no one really cares, yet again.
I was so disappointed when they went back on their decision for the new ranking system. I looked forward to being stomped by other servers.
WvW is boring as all hell when you own everything.
-Less coordinated groups to go up against.
-Less options for activity.
-Brings all the trolls and people who want easy access to WvW, not those that are actually concerned with playing.
Our guild has a false sense of entitlement, thinking that we are much better than we really are, we need to be knocked down a peg -_-. Please give us that opportunity Anet.
I said I was being trolled because the points in the first and third paragraph have been brought up and answered in other threads…several times. I’ve made my points on both inflation and GW2spidy and measuring value. I’ve not only specifically told you how you are incorrect, I’ve provided data for it.
I am confused.
I want to discuss the main point of my first post in this thread: (casual) players don’t really earn money as prices go up and up.
What am I doing wrong then? I’m not earning any more money than I was 3 months ago, but the precursors are still going up. Apparently I am misunderstanding somewhere or again, doing something wrong. I’m not casual either, I have ~1200 hours invested in the game, but I’m confused how this point is inaccurate.
In the case of fractals, there is a different reward system in place for obtaining the skins and the items there. It is not the same as the dungeon reward scheme, because fractals serve a different purpose than dungeons.
I will also mention that I am not the authority on reward schemes – I see trends, play the game, experience the content, and and draft proposals to the leads and those responsible for reward structures. I have brought up proposed changes to the reward scheme for the fractals, but it is not my place to be the decider on those issues.
If your proposals are arguments in line of what happened with Pristine Fractal Relics where there is a catchall for countering someone with bad luck and RNG, I greatly appreciate your efforts and I hope you keep making similar proposals.
Again, this is just assumption based off of how you’ve commented in this thread, and my gratitude could be entirely misplaced.
