I can agree with holosmith, even then it has limitations with the heating mechanism but soulbeast is garbage , riddled with bugs, smoke assault is nerfed and is only a portion of the time and doesn’t even proc evades.. While the idea of soulbeast might seem like it’s “more warrior than warrior” , it’s not , it’s a really bad class and it is only even mentioned because of the pet bug that allows it to do 40k+ dmg , which will be fixed.

Spellbreaker is a really good spec and while I main ranger, I’ve actually had a fun time on spellbreaker and might even swap over. I’m still not done testing with scourge or mirage though.

I’m curious?
here in GW2— do you truly see any difference in damage mitigation based in the armor you wear?

All armors are equal, unfortunately, here in GW2

Doesn’t matter trash tier or not, soulbeast is so versatile, merging with tank pet gives you heavy armor tier armor and some pets gives you F skill stunbreak was something warrior need for a long time so we can actually take more offensive utilities, instead of trashing them for years..tons of evade frame that makes on your face warrior style melee more reliable as well and a damaging roar…tell me that’s not warrior and i’m purely taking about game play concepts. Doesn’t matter trash tier or not, soulbeast is definitely more warrior like then warrior

you have cleanses, resistance, vitality and heals, sigils to remove conditions, rune of the trooper if needed, finishers in light fields… and probably some more… you can have it cleansed by others, amd duration reductions even if they have been nerfed as well

Why? the simple reason is that Condition you just cleansed is now automatically restacked via simple applications from your enemy.

Don’t read this wrong- I m a huge user of DoT damage since the Shadowbane days.

However, the mechanisms in place to cleanse vs the mechanisms in place to apply are weighting heavily in favor on the application.

I spent most of this weekend trying to see what a Weaver rotation would actually look like (in PvE). I spent much of the weekend, like many, feeling that it just did not flow well at all, but after a lot of work I finally have a rotation that I think actually works. I have no idea how this would compare to current builds in terms of DPS – that will have to wait for September, and chances are very high that there is a better rotation than this. This is at least something to look at, though!

The weapons: Sword/Dagger. Focus has the highest DPS skill, but it has no other DPS skills and offhand skills are very important because of the way the attunements cycle.

The Gear: I suspect this will use Food/Traits/Runes+Viper gear to max out on condition duration and filling in remaining gear slots with the new Griever’s gear.

The sword seems to favor condition damage as even before adding any stats, the conditions are generally even with and in many cases stronger than the power damage.

The Utilities: Arcane Power, Primordial Stance, Signet of Fire.

For the elite, I’m not sure if Weave Self will actually prove to be useful for PvE. The two benefits are:

1) Increased Condi damage. This is obviously good, but I don’t know if it will manage to work because the second “benefit” may hurt more than help? Hard to say. It is:

2) Attunement recharge reduction. This also seems very good, but it actually seems to make the rotations MORE clunky because there just don’t seem to be enough skills worth using that are off cooldown faster than you can swap. Under rotations, I’ll list the best Weave-Self rotation I’ve been able to come up with, but it really gets rough toward the end. This Elite MAY be useful for quick bursty phases. Otherwise, Firey Greatsword or the Fire Elemental may prove to be the way to go.

Use Arcane Power and Primordial stance off cooldown when in or just before attuning to Fire or Earth. Always swap to the next attunement ASAP while casting Earth 5.

This rotation took a lot of work and even if it feels ever so slightly rough in a place or two, it’s by far the smoothest thing I’ve found out of testing this nonstop all weekend.

As I said above, I don’t know if Weave Self will be used as it feels clunky. The best I have for it is:

On a slightly more serious note: obviously you are doing something wrong, and I would try to find out what it is. You can visit Metabattle for your build, check what killed you after you died, watch youtube videos to see gameplay, and maybe join a PvP guild to get advice and to learn.

Anyway, hats off for the dedication.

I’m not doing anything wrong. There no way ive been on 56 now losing teams and its my fault- especially when I’m placing 1-3 on the team.

I’m not sure on the math, but I think that Condi Rev just isn’t great for PvE currently. The new mobs move around a lot, but several bosses don’t and anything in the old content barely moves either, so your Torment will do pitiful damage and your Poison and Burns are just bonuses really.
If Roy follows up with that trait that increases Torment damage on enemies that stand still, then I guess it’ll be more viable in more places.

So far the cond rev I made does nice damage.
I’m using mostly rampagers with a sprinkling of carrion
this allows me to do good power damage and even better cond damage.

Burns crit- and mace + glint burn + perma might stacking is really good.

gm zerk slot is the best I felt compared to the other 2=P

I’m not a fan of anets laughable 1s to 3s gifts they throw out that are based on being in a certain mode.

Anyhow- the main query of the post asking about cond builds not being viable?
I’m primarily a pvper and main a necro and ranger— and during beta I wanted to test drive all the elites.

I found this build to be very effective in spvp.

I sure if you changed up your utilities you could get more AOE team support.

also- the zerker elite is on a 20 sec CD— which also means you get the a nice stun and krait elite cond application 2x/minute.

a nerf to base healing is necessary. Whilst I agree the Ranger, now, should be a hybrid class (either going full DPS or going Healing), in my eyes you shouldn’t be able to do both at the same time. Nerf base healing, increase how much healing you do if you gear for that than what it was at BWE3 if you geared for it, and it’s all happy. Unfortunately anet, you HAVE to buff core ranger for this to be a viable payoff. Otherwise you’ve kittened off the Ranger community YET AGAIN.

Point being what do we get when we give up the base healing?

As Druid we do not get any good damage at all!

It’s not like we give-up base healing and go full zerk, and suddenly staff hits as hard as LB. If you just going to nerf healing while leaving the damage subpar even with the best offensive set-up, then this is not hybrid, this is one dimensional crap (spec healing or you’re useless in both healing and dps)

Thats precisely it, no you don’t get mad damage by speccing druid and going with zerker. Thats like saying you want to be the biggest planet but also the smallest at the same time. Druids not gonna be a dps class and you will be a hindrance to your team by going druid with zerker.

Instead, if you want to be DPS, stick with core ranger. You can’t be Druid and have the choice of heavy healing or heavy dps. In other words, you can’t be a hybrid with just one specialisation.

We need to start ignoring that word “elite” thats attached to these specs and Anet should never have called them that in the first place as it makes us feel like thats the next goal of advancing the character. Its not, it’s just another option.

Druid cannot be Hybrid post nerf because it’d only shine in heal. Even with best offensive gear, the damage is still subpar. It also has no condition damage whatsoever on everything Druid offers.
The ONLY option you get is spec for more healing, making your damage NON-EXISTENT (DONT use the word subpar, hitting less than1k with staff AA is outright worthless)

There’s nothing Hybrid about it. No damage, no condition, no boons, but only healing.
Druid is MERELY a healer post nerf. You either spec for inferior damage and giving up the whole healing things, or spec for healing to be a great healer and do next to no damage.

Other support classes NEVER have to go through this trade-off and still can keep all their options. (Damage or Condition, pick one) That’s what I called Hybrid.

I’m well aware what hybrid means. You don’t seem to understand that what you’re saying is exactly what it is. the druid is NOT a hybrid spec. It’s a healing spec. what gives the Ranger the option TO hybrid is that is has the Druid option to spec into, or not.

I’m seeing a lot of salty Rangers here (I know because I am one) who can’t seem to look beyond the fact that there class is “bad”. Talk to Heimskarl if you think the Ranger is as bad as you lot make it out to be.

Read it again. If you spec for healing on a subpar damage class (Yes, even go full zerk, if you use staff your damage is “subpar”), your damage become “non-existent”. That’s what I meant.

You continue to fail to see my point. We shouldn’t get an Elite spec just for one dimensional use with no other choice but healing. Druid shouldn’t be something that bound to only healing. It should add options to our play-style, not pigeon-hole us into one play-style.

You said you’re able to pick on other specs of ranger to be Hybrid for Druid, but your logic is flawed because without the stats, other ranger specs aren’t going to save your dps. You pick healing, and your damage is nothing, simple as that. There’s nothing hybrid about it. This game is so reliant on stats and Amulets.

Okay again you’ve nailed the bullseye. There’s nothing hybrid about it. Correct. It’s a healing spec. It’s not meant to be a hybrid. (Unless Irenio + devs change their mind)

The ranger however IS hybrid because at its core, it’s DPS orientated. Yes, other ranger specs won’t save your DPS and as I said, the core ranger still needs a lot of work to make the class work as a hybrid (which is what it looks like they’re trying to do).

What I think you’re trying to say is that the Ranger either goes full dps, or full healing, and as such, whilst in play, cannot be a hybrid. The thing is, it appears that anet are trying to avoid just that, because thats what the Elementalist is and everyone cries “OP!”.

Also, why shouldn’t it be one-dimensional? take Rift for example, you have one class that specs into individual, one dimensional roles depending on whats needed of it. This is just something, that the Rangers have declared, shouldn’t be a thing and so therefore must have negativity hurled towards it.

Having this additional option actually OPENS the play of the Ranger. albeit it in an uncreative way (I’m not a massive fan of druid and I believe they could have done it differently, but I’ll put that in a separate post if asked because its off-topic otherwise)

This isn’t Rift. Any other elite spec has multiple build paths; there is no single stat that they need. The same should be true of druid. Forcing healing power on every druid in order for them to be effective is bad design.

Rift is actually an excellent example of how hybrids can work, especially as healers.

Warhammer also did the hybrid healer, very very well00 Warpriest and Disciple of Khaine as some of the best designed healer classes ive ever seen.

There’ll be more supportive damage for Celestial Avatar by launch… possibly from trait modifications or from skill changes.

An issue which should not be decoupled here is that Celestial Avatar felt gated behind staff use (and troll unguent), which left a ranger with one damage-focused weapon option and one support weapon. I’m making some changes to astral force rate gain to try to address this. Ideally it should be possible to build up your astral force without -needing- to run staff, but running staff should speed up the process by nature of the heals it provides. This would yield the option of running two non-staff weapons while still having Celestial Avatar available.

Celestial Avatar healing is the best available by a decent margin right now. One issue that came up is that the healing coefficients are so insignificant that running with healing stats yields very little reward.

The best healing in the game being available without using any healing power; this is not good for the game.

The berserker meta not be the only consideration requires that other stat combinations be rewarding.

Being able to run two more damage-focused weapons (if that’s your thing) and still have Celestial Avatar available should address some of your offensive concerns if you want to play a bit more offensively as a hybrid. If you want to focus on being the top offense then you probably shouldn’t be selecting the Druid specialization.

That’s all I’m going to say on the subject for now (though I will continue to read constructive feedback here and elsewhere) as there is plenty to be done in order to address these and other issues. /me ducks back to work on Scrapper and Druid.

So apparently other 8 classes can get away from being this “unhealthy cancer of the game”, while Druid has to stay clean and start this healing/ hitting like wet-noodle trend. Well then, better stick with the cancers, which are actually the majority here.

Guess who’d be left alone if only one class has to sacrifice everything to do what everyone else could do and more.

If they want this diversity you talked about, they need to add mechanic like healing actually damage certain foes. (Like healing vs undead/ corrupted plants), while have high resistant against anything else. Otherwise your dream of “healthy GW2” will never come true.

The Ranger Bots have re-appeared in force… no longer in Cursed Shore or other well known spots around Tyria.. now they stand idle in Dry Top near to the Prosperity waypoint using their pets to tag events and macro spawn traps .

Cmon Anet when are you going to get a grip with the exploitation of your game mechanics and do something. Oh that’s right we are advised to hit the report buttons and day after day the same players stand there tagging rewards, especially since that little pinch of info about maybe needing geodes for some of the pre-cursor craft steps at Twitchcon

its not specific to ranger
too bad Logitech, razor, and whoever else company has made products that can loop commands.

I think the reason they decreased the condi duration for lingering curses is because of the addition of torment to feast of corruption. 7 stacks of torment with that kind of duration would be brutal.

Reaper Changes for BWE3

The Reaper feedback from the last BWE was much more positive this time around so this set of changes will be less about large sweeping changes and more about smaller adjustments to numbers and timing to improve the overall feel of the specialization. Some of the more unpopular traits are also getting their functionality updated to be more competitive.

Reaper’s Shroud
The speed of Death’s Charge was increased to be more in-line with other gap closers like Savage Leap. I’ve also done some small animation changes that should reduce incidents of the skill going in the wrong direction. The small recharge on enter was also removed to make the functionality consistent with normal Death Shroud.

  • Reaper’s Shroud: Removed the small recharge that was applied to the Exit Reaper’s Shroud when this skill was activated.
  • Life Reap (Reaper Shroud 1c): Reduced aftercast by 0.2 seconds.
  • Death’s Charge – Increased movement velocity by approximately 30%. Improved animation consistency.
  • Infusing Terror: Removed incorrect fear skill fact from this skill
  • Terrify (Reaper Shroud 3 toggle): Reduced casting time by 0.15 seconds. Adjusted animation speed.

Greatsword
With the last set of changes to greatsword the weapon is starting to feel like it’s in a good place. Some range adjustments to a few of the more difficult to hit with skills should help bring the rest of it together. Greatsword 5 was not changed in this iteration but we are aware of the problems it has and are working to improve them without changing the unique functionality of the skill.

  • Dusk Strike/Fading Twilight: Fixed an issue where these skills would occasionally not award their listed lifeforce values.
  • Death Spiral: Increased width on this attack by 33% to put it in line with other melee attack skills.
  • Nightfall: Increased radius of this skill by 60 for all pulses. Maximum radius is now 360. Added effects to show damage/combo field radius. Fixed an issue which caused the combo field to persist longer than the effect of this skill.

Shouts
Shouts are getting to a good place but there’s still a little more to be done here. “Chilled to the Bone” and “Your Soul Is Mine” are getting buffs to make them more worthy of the slot and “Rise” is getting an update to make it more reliable as a defensive skill.

  • “Chilled to the Bone!”: Lowered recharge from 120 seconds to 90 seconds. Reduced chill duration from 8 seconds to 6 seconds.
  • “Nothing Can Save You!”: Reduced recharge from 35 seconds to 25 seconds.
  • “Rise!”: Updated minion models. Increased vitality and toughness of minions by 33%, but decreased minion power by 40%. This skill now summons one minion by default plus one additional per target hit. Shambling Horrors now apply Dark Bond to their master as soon as they are summoned but must still attack to maintain the bond.
  • “Suffer!”: Removed unlisted lifeforce gain from this skill.
  • “You are all Weaklings!”: This skill now has instant activation. Increased weakness duration from 6 seconds to 8 seconds. Removed stability.
  • “Your Soul Is Mine!”: Decreased base heal value by 25% but increased base multiplier by 16% and healing attribute multiplier by 40%. TLDR; This skill now has the same healing values as the Guardian skill Shelter.

Traits
While many Reaper traits had very positive feedback, there were a few that we felt could use some improvement. Augury of Death now adds a lifesteal component to help it fit in with the other “fighter” style traits in that row. Soul Eater similarly has had a small rework to make the CDR bonus easier to use. The lifesteal from Soul Eater was moved onto Gravedigger only since it allows us to better tune its power and provides a clearer use case for it. The change to Chilling Force fixes an issue where multiple Reapers attacking the same target could block each other from gaining the bonus if they were attacking the same target.

  • Augury of Death: In addition to it’s previous effect this trait now additionally causes shouts to lifesteal. (Approximately 100-150 health.)
  • Chilling Nova: Increased damage by 50%. Increased number of targets from 3 to 5.
  • Chilling Force: Now has a 1s ICD but is not limited per target. Single strikes that hit multiple targets can activate this trait more than once before its recharge is activated. Increased might duration from 5 seconds to 8 seconds.
  • Deathly Chill: Now has an icon attached to the chill damage.
  • Soul Eater: Changed recharge reduction to a flat 20% without conditionals. Lifestealing from this trait increased significantly but the lifestealing now only applies to Gravedigger. (Approximately 140-180 health.)

why cant CHILL be the cold equivalent to BURN? I rather forgo the not so great snare from chill and let CHILLS stack and be given the same damage coefficient that BURNS are given.

Other weapon powers that snare are much better than chill— its too easy for classes to drop chill due to duration and limited stackability.

This would also give necros a much wanted, viable COND build- as the current bleed/poison builds are very mediocre to say the least.

If you are serious about not wanting the ranger to be buffed to the point where the population thinks they are OP there had better be ZERO posts in the past, present and future from you complaining about the underpowered state of the ranger

A couple of things I noticed from the beta:

1) You remember the July 7th notes where it was said that chill stacks up to five times? I didn’t see it stack once even in world boss fights.

The first point under balance

2) [b}Robert Gee said something before about chill damage scaling with condition damage. Unfortunately I don’t see any chill damage seeing how chill is so low currently. Luckily that should be changed in the next BW2 so this point is subject to change.[/b}

Mr Ghee said many many falsehoods about the reaper during his livestream, and ill leave it at that.

Chill damage is PATHETHIC.
using carrian amulet my BASE CHILL damage of 140 went up to 320-340ish. That baloney trait isn’t even worth investing in as the damage is a slap in the face and the fact that CHILL was NERFED before the reaper even came out—- and that again is a slap in the face as that livesteam TOUTED the reaper as being the master of CHILLS…..

From a Pvp pov, I felt the cond gs reaper outperformed the power version.
And that’s mainly due to drumfire in ds.aside from that reaper gs is very sub par in Pvp.

I wasn’t around for the original drumfire, do damage did that used to do?

The current incarnation for me hit at most for 1200 using undead rune, carrion amulet, smoldering and whatever the +10 cond damage per kill is called.

In contrast
On my elements list and guard, in Pvp I can burn for 4kish.

in pvp- cond melee revenant mace/ax + demon stance I found to be very, very good.
Carrion Amulet + undead rune (+cond damage rune your choice) seemed to offer very good torment dots.

And in pvp where no one stands still— the torment dots hit really hard.

the reapers…… forte?
Give Shroud Knight immuntiy to the current chill nerf. This skill should be unique for the reaper as it as advertised, and as such, current chill mechanics should be negated for the class.
In fact change it from CHILL to Xchill to differentiate the reapers power.

Damage
GS ONLY and chill (renamed X chill IE Super Chill)

needs to be tuned upwards. I dont like the slowness in PVP; however, Ic ould live with it if the damage were much higher.

Good players will avoid the burst skills very easily; and as such, the reward for connecting needs to be…….. well…… rewarding?

1) increase all damage 25% 50% 75% for auto attack, followed by 75% increases to GS 2-5.

2)or— make GS auto attacks damage based on % health inversely- meaning the higher an opponents health, the less damage, but the lesser the health the higher damage.

IE 100% health GS does 10-15-20 base no weapon damage just the flat % damage
50% health GS does 15-20-25 base
25% health GS does 20-30-40 base

CHILL
this thing is just so bad for a class that was advertised to be the master of chill.
when traited and depnding on gear/spec— hitting for 120 to 350 is just a poorly designed concept.
this damage needs a 100% damage increase to be meaningful.

and lastly

Big. slow weapon thats melee based with light armor…..

Ok shroud knight also needs to offer +33% protection as wel as access to GS.

Use a GS and come back and post your results. Lets not be happy because of reaper shroud, as it brings noting to the necro— you can go DS and get the same results.

ive said a lot about this before and during this beta.

Ok slow….. but what else?
it doesnt do the huge damage my #1 enemy states ( the person responsible for this class)

chill— I’m beating a dead horse dead. #1 enemy stated this is THE DEFINING POWER OF THE kitten ED CLASS.

chills don’t seem to chill, as people either get ou of it too fast (thanks to the chill NERF)
or they use their escape leaps/charges and get the hell out of dodge too easily.

the chill traited damage is so low— why even have the trait that allows chill to damage?

in a straight power build the max damage I see 147, and using cond is 350! whoot.

Chill needs to be hadled uniquely for the reaper. Meaning this chill imitiatons shouldn’t apply to the reaper class as his inherent reaper power should be seen to make chill a super chill.

at least double the chill damage.
GS damage needs to be much larger— at least 50% larger.

And lastly— I really cant stand the people who love the class SOLEY FOR THE Gkitten reaper shroud.

You can do DS and get pretty much the same results and NOT HAVE TO BE IN MELEE RANGE.

Shroud Knight trait should also allow perma spectral powers too as I’m finding it hard to fathom why a frontline melee fighter is given access to only light armor.

In fact— to even get into reaper shroud its crazy that GS offers very poor lf generation.

I’m not sure why this class is treated so poorly IMO.

id like to see a 1 sec timer fromt he point of transformation BACK to necro form.

Too many times when I trait the insta cast xform I clck f1 and I’m back to necro form when the trait auto xformed me — so irritating.

No reason to go reaper over ds. There isn’t a power increase to the class

It does basically the same thing for us

Just chiming in – ran the same build as I have on live on my Beta Reaper – but with a Greatsword instead of Dagger/Warhorn.

My survivability in PVE stayed about the same – but my time to kill drastically increased.

The Greatsword hits for about the same as the Dagger – but with a MASSIVE period of time between each swing. I don’t know how this ever was considered acceptable in the first place. It’s 100% risk, no reward.

The chill is pathetic – it can never land in PVP enemies can just walk out of it – and in PvE it does bunk all.

If the chill is the reason this weapon has to have bad DPS/bad damage – remove the chill and triple the damage – then we’ll have something scary.

remember! the CHILL according the Mr Ghees livestream is the REAPERS CLAIN TO FAME!
