I got sad at reading this post. It’s people that have the same mindset as you is why thief is always getting nerfed. People have no idea what thief does and always exaggerate (without actually knowing anything that they’re complaining about) in effort to nerf a class they don’t like.
“First of all, I am completely uninformed of all those nerfs and etc.
I made my Thief after the nerfs started on purpose since I don’t like broken classes. Now that nerfs started I made my thief and I am trying to stay here.”
It’s a shame there are so many people who think this way and don’t even know any better
We never got a single nerf to how backstab works or its damage. What you’re experiencing is what thief has been like since launch. Well I’m glad that you actually found how dumb all those complaints are and how overblown the average backstab is but it’s not like the other 9001 people complaining about thief will even listen to the truth.
As stated above, those 12k crits you’re looking for were done with 25 stacks with a ton of might stacks and assassin signet. If those weren’t present then the person hit was either underlvld or naked.
If you stick with thief long enough to figure out what’s up you’ll find that they don’t got for 1 big hit but instead it’s a series of good hits in quick succession. The main cookie cutter combo was mug, cnd, backstab, hs spam but now that mug is pretty much a joke dagger pistol has become the go-to weapon combo. You can land that hs, gain stealth, backstab, flee but stay in combat. Do that over while being elusive and that’s where you should take your 1st steps. If you want to know how to do good, long fights, that will come in time when you figure out wth you’re doing. That’s the same for every class though.
If you do go 25-30-0-0-15 you will get more spike but you’ll also die if anything touches you. Just find a build you like and roll with it.

Lol as a proud GoM, I’m now glad to be in the same tier as worlds like you. I won’t be making a recruitment message though b.c I don’t want to accidentally overpopulate our server with wvw peoples :s
It is difficult and requires some skills to be used in order to survive. I find if you just run in one at a time they do not take the bombs away. Going in with groups, the dredge tend to migrate over to the door. TBH it just boils down to experience. I used to run in as a warrior and plant then reset. Now, I can run in and out without getting downed while my party kills a few at the bottom of the stairs. I have seen the thief approach where we go in stealth and plant as a group. That works well too. I like the fact that I don’t have to be a button masher for every dungeon and the Dredge map is proof that at least Anet is going in the right direction. Now they need to do something about these useless relics and rings……..
every time we get bomb door I solo it and don’t get hit by a single attack. Then again I’m a thief, doesn’t change the fact that this dungeon bores the hell out of me and I hate every moment I spend in there. Just give me my darn dagger skin. Over 100 pristines and all at 38/48. Enough is enough, fix ur kitten anet.
OP you’re missing a big one
Ice fractal, boss goes up to die, can’t loot corpse. Skin bs is def worse though
I also know this is true (tested many times) because whenever a GS Warrior leaves and is replaced by my friend Elementalist, our Slave Driver kill time drops dramatically by about 2 seconds.
So dramatic lol
Adam.4103, Articluna.4509 ?? .. My luck is NOT BAD???
Are you comparing your 26 runs to my 500? Are you joking!!!!
And Articluna.4509 .. if i got 1 skin every 20 then i should have 25 skins by now not 3 LOL again
are you counting 1 run as 1 poinit into your fractal frequenter? If so, that’s not how it works. 1 run is 3-4 points into that frequenter category as that achieve is 1 point per each zone you complete. If you had done 500 fractals then you should have over 400 pristines (counting any used for rings ofc). It is disgusting that you have as few as you do and even more disgusting that you don’t have a choice of which 3 you could have gotten. If you can’t even use the skin or the skin doesn’t fit with your playstyle then it is worse than getting nothing. It’s just wasted bank space that reminds you of how crappy your lucky is every time you see it.
Not to be obnoxious, but in all honesty a gameplay video would prove your point much better than a verbal complaint. If people saw how laughable shortbow is at the moment, no one would be prone to thinking you’re exaggerating.
Also, have you tried opening with shortbow 3 and using trick shot while target is crippled or running interference for a small strike team? Does trick shot hit more if you shoot from a closer distance?
The person was walking BACKWARDS when he was walking across from me. That movement speed is significantly slower than a crippled target moving forward. I’ve made other videos about such things in the past but they’ve gone completely ignored. What makes you think this would be any different?
When using any boon stealing ability you aren’t able to steal the stacking boons.
I had noticed multiple times that when using bountiful theft or larcenous the opponent would always be left with their might. The worst part of this though is when you do steal the might from someone (when it’s the last or one of the last 2 boons), you don’t steal all the stacks.
I want those might stacks!
http://imgur.com/hSdtkxY
But that’s what I get instead.
http://imgur.com/GqmkJ7T
I tried to steal the 25 stacks of might from the jelly but I only got 1. The picture shows 3 might stacks. I got one from thrill of the crime and two from stealing the 25 stacks of might. Something clearly isn’t working. I know this IS a bug b/c in the SotG dealio the devs straight up said that the thief WOULD be able to steal those might stacks.
Totally off-topic, but what is that lantern rainbow item thingie?
The one that looks like a dye, with rainbows in the background :p
it’s one of the flame and frost dyes
yea my game crashed hard in the middle of the boss fight. The entire 75%-50% I had 5-15fps and as I got the boss low my game just froze for a bit. A few moments later everything fast forwarded and I was dead. Almost rage quit right there. Assuming your pc would have the same issues or worse when trying to record so I don’t blame you at all for not doing it
@ vincent, do you not see the problem with the attack blatantly missing when your character is supposed to have batman level accuracy? If the attack was such a problem then why not make ranger arrows and guardian scepter “heat seek” as well instead of breaking the 1 slow moving projectile that actually works in this game.
If that isn’t an option, then make other slow moving projectiles lose their heat seeking. Perfect example of this is the jotun in arah p1. If we can’t hit a moving target then why should things like that hit?
I’m figuring out a few things as I go along but I gota do some stuff right now. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it done soon though. Wasn’t expecting to have to fight all those trash mobs. B/c of that alone, I could have easily filled a fail vid.
well kitten. Had to go do stuff so I put one of my signets on auto cast so I wouldn’t get kicked… guess that wasn’t good enough. I’ll get the last boss done later but I have to run the whole dungeon again just to get to him

Here’s the recap. Bow shoots and hits fine if the target is running directly towards or away from you but if they’re going even the slightest bit sideways, it’ll miss.
That’s how it’s suppose to be in the first place, the previous functionality is obviously a bug and this is the fix.
The only thing that needs changing is the projectile speed, it’s too kitten slow.
lol. So I guess this master bow user I made, that is good enough to bounce arrows from target to target, can’t aim slightly to the right or left to hit a moving target? Riiiiiiiiight. I don’t know how people are able to hit moving animals when they go bow hunting irl. Must be hacks.
On paper it sounds fine, in practice it makes the bow USELESS. I didn’t know this until I tried it out. There was a guardian walking backwars…. super slow right. So he’s walking backwards and across from me at about 5-600 range so I start pew pewing away with my auto attack. Lo and behold, EVERY ONE OF MY ARROWS MISS! I shoot at him 7-8 times and each arrow flies in front of his face with obstucted poping up for every shot. Best part about this is, we were fighting on even ground with nothing to obstruct.
This is one nerf that I hope they fix fast. It broke my heart having to unequip my dreamer just cause it was wasting a weapon slot.
Here’s the recap. Bow shoots and hits fine if the target is running directly towards or away from you but if they’re going even the slightest bit sideways, it’ll miss.
skills 1 2 3 4 and 5 suck…..on p/p…..skills 1 3 4 5 are supar or suck on SB………. shall i go on? not asking to be buffed to the moon but idk…more variety woudl be nice.
I lol’d at this. Sure pistol sucks but to say all the skills suck is just plain ignorance or pure exaggeration. 3 is a solid single target dps, 4 is the best defiance stripper in the game and 5 is a crazy good smoke field.
About sbow, 1 is junk now that it can barely land against anything that moves but 2-3-5 are still godlike. Glad you realized 2 is great but not admitting 3… cmon. Same dodge duration as your dodge and it only costs ini which also crippling the guy you may be running from. It’s pretty kitten amazing. 5 isn’t USUALLY good in combat but it’s great for disengaging or catching up.
4 is junk for everything and anything unless you have an ele trying to get their heal off with armor of earth on, a bunker engi is about to go pick up all his medkits, or if a shelter guardian is using that annoying heal. Even if you’re a condition thief it’s rarely worth it to drop the poison field.
Used the skill once. INSTANTLY fell in love. Everything about it is positive:
1) Pathing is immensely improved.
2) It just…“feels” more reliable. In terms of how you move, and the transition to ordinary movement after the evasion. It just feels a lot better.
3) Boon steal itself is fantastic
4) LS boon steal portion is unblockable instead of the first part (which stripped a boon before). This needs to be emphasised.
Not to mention you can mix in a few autos and even a cnd with the larcenous strike not being refreshed. Makes it sooooo nice to be unpredictable. ONLY downside is that you really can’t do multiple quick evades anymore, makes sense though. Sword is supposed to be a balanced offensive and defensive weapon. Sbow is the defensive weapon that relies on the evade spam in hairy situations so it makes sense that it’s the one that gets the amazing defensive abilities.
Pretty sure they buffed the damage on the 2nd hit as well. Was doing reliable 4500+ crits. Almost hit 6k with 3 might so as it feels it’s a GREAT alternative to dagger dagger. Love that now I actually have an effective way to fight boon stacking classes. 1 boon strip just wasn’t enough before. Stealing 2 at a time makes it a LOT more balanced fighting someone who has near infinite access to boons. Pretty sure I’m going to go d/d s/d for wvw from now on. Feels so good now that we have our 3s revealed back. Going to take a few days getting used to 3s again but my god it feels good.

phira nobody cares about those second deviation excuses. We are all impressed with your run but if you want to prove a point then but it down in video form. If you need someone else who can record for you then you can most likely find someone else with a better pc than you. I AM very interested in seeing just how fast you can pull off a run. Please don’t diminish what you can do with how you’re acting now.
Ill probably try tomorrow, too tired atm. Sad though, Weth will probably have it done by then. Gl on your run though
HOLY CRAP! How do you guys get so many skins? I’ve yet to find ONE! I’ve only seen one other player get one as well. Although I only have 30 Pristine Relics which isn’t as much as you, but I’m at Fractal 32.
I actually quit GW2 for a month because I raged at how terrible the RNG drops rates for these skins are. ALL I WANT IS THE GREATSWORD!
advance in fractals. I haven’t gotten a single skin in anything under 36 and I’ve only gotten 1 from there. Sorry but you need to actually do high level fractals b4 you can talk about the skin drop rate as the rate at lower levels is horribly low.
not even a decent way to get the skin you want
SE is used mostly by stealth heavy thieves x/D & D/P. And these thieves require to be in the thick of it at all times. It makes the D/P thief incredibly powerful just by itself. Also, the thief has the Signet of Agility that removes a condition for every ally in the area which also has a base cd of 30s and can be traited for less than that? Although, I do agree on the Shadowstep removing a condition on use.
Sorry but you don’t how signet of agility works. It removes 1 conditoin FROM every ally in the area. Thief still only gets 1 removed, same with everyone else affected. 1 condition removed, not a bajillion. If you don’t believe me then I implore you to go test it out. Lastly, for the thief being in the thick of things, it requires them to be an easy target. Sure they are stealth a lot and kind of bouncy, but you know where they are and can react accordingly.
LF4M thiefs Fractal 5000+. No noobs. NO WARRIORS!!! NO GAURDIANS!!!
D/D THIEF ONLY! Btw op, that suggestion is hilarious. I would LOVE to use it for a day only to make every zerg ever cry tears for this rediculous buff. They would have no one but themselves to blame due to all their stealth qq :P I wouldn’t have to use my brain at all. Just cnd spam all day ftw!
“Search and Rescue” skill:
Increased cooldown from 85 seconds to 180 seconds in PvP.
No longer revives defeated allies.
That really sucks for you guys
SnR was the 1 BIG thing that made you guys awesome for the team in fractals, esp 40+. Not just for the revive on maw, but for the ability to res a downed ally when they were in a horrible spot or be able to keep the boss busy while getting your team back up. Best scenarios would be on grawl, colossus, dredge, and charr. Kite the boss in circles while getting your team up was, imo, the best part of having a ranger on the team aside from that water field. The obvious answer to beating this nerf is to have teamates who don’t die but lets be realistic here. People make mistakes. Now the entire team loses out of the best safety net in the game.
You forgot one:
“Search and Rescue” skill:
- Increased cooldown from 85 seconds to 180 seconds in PvP.
- No longer revives defeated allies.
Pet res no longer works in L48 FotM. You now have to 99% it or have 45 AR.
P.S. Thanks dungeon teams for not fixing CoF 1 so I can continue to never run any of your other unrewarding dungeons and just spam this boring and mindless path all night straight if I feel like making money! You’re doing a real good job here!
I live with 40 ar as thief if I have a water field or a kindly shout warrior or guardian with book.
I really feel bad for rangers though. SnR was the 1 thing that made rangers special for fractals. Not just for resing at 48 maw, but for reviving a downed ally while keeping the boss busy. This even further takes away a LOT of utility from the ranger
You have my sympathies my friends.
I can make excuses also:
- We didn’t have 25 might at slave driver
- I didn’t use banner rush
- I messed up on one acolyte
- I got knocked down by the flame effigy
- We didn’t run Hounds of Balthazar on 3 warriors and just stick 1 warrior with Banner Elite which is the same thing as SoR + 4 FGJ + Mesmer Signet.Just make a video and then if you beat it we’ll try again.
To be fair I personally wouldn’t count it towards a speed run if the warriors used hounds same as I wouldn’t count it if the thieves used it. Reason being is that they are a race skill. If the thieves used thieves guild that’s fine as you’re not further forcing annoying restrictions. It would make it so instead needing to be a warrior or get kicked from the run, you’d need to be a human warrior, or get kicked from the run. I left thief out b/c people are still generally dumb and kick thieves on sight, no matter what. Perfect example is I couldn’t get into a run for an hour yesterday just cause I wanted to use my zerker thief instead of my zerker warrior. Nobody wants that to be even further abused since for people like me, I don’t use human. I have a norn thief and sylvari warrior. After 1300 hours on my thief, I’m not going to re-roll human just b/c one guy thinks it’s better than thieves guild.
In short, use the skills that come with your class, not your race.
and still no real nerfs to backstab setup. lol.
mug no longer crits. That’s the nerf
•Cloak and Dagger skill: Now functions with the Hidden Killer trait.
anyone know what that really means?? Does that mean If I have hidden killer, cnd will ALWAYS crit? If so that’s kind of amazing.
Is actually some pretty good ideas. Might be too strong but I like it. Means that instead of doing big things from stealth, you’re doing big things when you’re pushing the action. Stealth still maintains its offensive and defensive purposes but gets toned down a bit to help the newbies avoid the brunt of the attack. Also means backstab isn’t insta crit (/cry) but then means that IF it does crit, all the heart seekers follow ups will. That’s what I mean by maybe too strong.
Last possible problem with it though is that the player could go full PTcrit but still have nearly 100% crit rate. I know I’m focusing on the 30 in critical a lot but that’s where the imbalance from this idea would be the most prevalent.
Looking at this makes me wonder what you think about ele. Saying that mostly cause embrace is one of the thief’s only viable way to clear condition in a fight. Hide in shadows? Please, once every 30s = dead thief. Shadowstep WOULD be good if the condi removal wasn’t just on the return. If it was 1 condition on in and out imo it would be much better.
you do have a lot more than me but I haven’t done a 10s since I got to 20s and I’ve done maybe 2 20s since getting to 30s. Big difference in numbers there since you don’t even get relics at 10s and the 20s is so low that you mine as well not even count it.
neither i did any 10 since i reach 20, but note that 10-18 gives you pristine relics.
So you did at least 4
Also i do daily runs…..and unless you have a fixed Group (that makes fotm really easy) you rarely can do 40+ (expecially if you don t use a guardian or a warrior)Even if its true than 10 with pugs is way harder than 40 with a good Group.
As i said also people noticed long ago as 20 seems to give way more fotm weapons than 30+ (for me its something like 95% more).
That maybe not true but shows quite clearly that if there is ANY difference in drop % its negligible.
If you want skins you d better farm 20-24 (the sample begins to be significant considering how long i am tracking this with help of some other players).
I didn’t ever repeat any 10s and I bought my 1st ring with pristines so my number should be 113 not 103. I didn’t get my 1st usable ring until I was level 32 fractals, meaning I put it on at lvl 33. Pretty sure I did 2 lvl 30s to get that last token. Was a long time ago, memory gets hazy u know. But that’s why I wasn’t counting it in my equation.
I’m a thief and I both pug and group up. I had 1 guildie do fotm with me as I lvld up to 48, the other 3 were pugs. As it is now, I do about 50% either full guild or a mix and match with pugs and the other 50% is full pugs. That is fractals 48 with pugs on a regular basis. No problems here.
Btw, thief is top 3 class for fotm along with mesmer and guard. There is at least 1 thing I can do as a thief that carries people through on every fractal. It really shines on dredge but there is something on every one. People don’t know this b/c they don’t trust thieves so they remain close minded. Really sad.
You really shouldn’t knock the 48 pugs. There’s usually a reason they’re up that high.
Btw, yesterday I did a 48 with a pug. I’m a glass thief and I had the highest armor level in the group. The rest were necro, ranger, mes, ele. 3 deaths total in that run. Love having ele and ranger in my group. I can keep everyone alive for a very long time just by abusing their water fields.
I missed the part where you said 20s gives better skin drop. Good for you if it’s true. I just know I didn’t get a single skin until 48 so I feel like 40s have a higher drop rate so it’s worth doing that over 20s (despite everything else doubling in numbers, doubling in dmg, and quadrupling in hp).

You love Vayne’s post? Yea go love his post to death for all I care. I don’t care if no one love my posts. I prefer to not be noticed anyways -_-
had to go through and check just to make sure but you haven’t posted in this thread until now according to my screen. Probably would love your post to death but I just don’t know where to find it
you do have a lot more than me but I haven’t done a 10s since I got to 20s and I’ve done maybe 2 20s since getting to 30s. Big difference in numbers there since you don’t even get relics at 10s and the 20s is so low that you mine as well not even count it.
See topic. Getting sick of fighting guardians with their block up constantly. I fought one today and I swear I was just swinging on him for 10-15 seconds non-stop w/ my auto-attack while he just stood there basically ignoring me.
So how do we deal w/ them?
People talk about stealth like its overpowered but it is nothing compared to this nonsense.
Yeah so unfair… you wasn’t able to kill that guy despite you pressed a key by 15 seconds……… nosense man, nosense…
Well at least you can just run away… or maybe you can invest some time playing other class besides your thief,
L2p sounds familiar?
There is no other class in the game that can kill someone without ever landing an attack. That’s what’s wrong with guardian atm. It’s cool that they are uber tanky, it’s not cool when their tank=dps. Btw you are right on 1 thing for sure which is a hard lesson to learn, guardian is the #1 counter to thief atm. Thief low hp pool can hardly deal with all the burns on block and all the retaliation. Even if the thief could, it’s VERY hard to get a solid burst through all those aiges and protection. Even if the thief does, it’s very unlikely it will down the guard so most likely the guard will just heal back up and out-live the thief. It’s the sad/true story of a fight between thieves and guards. Basically all you can do is ignore the guy and run away.
Right now retaliation scales with power… POWER. Meaning a pvt TANK is not only going to be insanely hard to kill, but their retaliation will be hitting full force just my getting shot in the face. At the very least make ret scale with condition damage or something. It’s far too easy for some guardian with 75% uptime on retaliation to deal 450s every time THEY get hit. You can’t just not hit them b.c retaliation is up all the time and you’re still getting hit while you’re not attacking them.
If it were to scale with condi damage it would make it a lot harder for the bunker builds to kill people without ever having to attack and that would help balance the skill imo.
Horror story time! My grenade engi bud tossed out 2 volleys of grenades into a zerg (one was probably barrage). Each grenade CAN hit up to 3 people and each auto throws 3 grenades. That’s up to 9 hits on the 1st throw and up to 24 on the 2nd. There were retaliation spamming guardians giving ret to the zerg at that time. 33 possible hits instantly (most likely more like 15-20 at most), and no way to mitigate the damage. By the time the 1st throw landed, the 2nd and 3rd were already in the air. Before he could get a 4th throw out, he was downed from the retaliation. That’s a fully geared, lvl 80 grenade engi with ppc gear. That’s how strong the boon is atm.
Heh, at least guardians have got protection. Engineers haven’t even got a reliable way to get that (we can get it at random with elixir h and toss elixir h) and still should support themselves and other via boons, especially with an hgh build.
And this is after people whined about the engineer hgh builds in pvp.
Seems more like a nerf toward engineers than other classes, actually.
thieves and warriors have no access, none, to protection by themselves. The only way for thief to get it is from rare steals and teamates where warriors just have teamates. At least warrior gets block and endure though.
First off, please don’t assume that everyone hates an unreasonably mechanic is a noob.
Second, if it’s the proposed 3% damage per boon, that makes it entirely possible to nail someone for 27% more damage with an attack. Since warriors already have the highest attack numbers in the entire game, this seems a touch excessive.
When I read this the one thing that poped in my head is "Wow, if someone has EVERY boon up, a warrior will ALMOST but not quite be able to hit that person for as hard as his attack is supposed to hit. Almost.
Is it normal to be swinging on someone for very long periods of time and seeing “block, block, block” constantly? I mean for long periods of time? As in several iterations of the dagger auto-attack?
It’s very odd if he can keep doing that. The longest block is 2 seconds from the Shelter heal. Outside of that, every individual hit should remove aegis.
If the guardian is running with a mace+focus, and using all his cooldowns (F3, Retreat.etc) then it’s possible, but there is no reason to to so, and the high rate of dagger attacks should remove the blocks extremely fast.
each block causes heavy burning, that’s why
fractal skin will lose its prestige once rng is gone..
i doubt anyone will go to fract anymore once the desired skins is obtained.there is prestige to owning fractal skins?
No kidding, there isn’t. The “prestige” you’re going for isn’t what you think it is. When people look at you with w.e fractal weapon they don’t go “Ooo, that guy must be good if he has THAT skin!” No people don’t do that, what people DO though is go, “wow lucky icky d, I have 80 pristines and 80 rings, and HE’S the one who gets my weapon! Such bs…” Winning the lottery doesn’t make you good at something and it doesn’t make you special.
Someone wearing arah armor has more prestige than someone wielding fractal weapons.
I didn’t read your whole post but after like a paragraph i knew exactly what you went through.
Dude the same thing happened when i tried out TERA for like a week. Worst online community i have ever experienced. It felt like their was a troll around every corner. The gear and level grind were ridiculous (happens when you stay away from asian mmos). The develpers only seemed interested in farming money from its customers (A costume box set was $60). And do not get me started on one their playable races called the Elin…..
But Yugi, Joey’s the furry :p
(edited by Moderator)
Oh and remember, this all happened in the span of 1 day.
A few things to know is that Hammer’s chain 3 is not a blast finisher, that’s Hammer’s 2, and secondly out of personal experience while playing Guardian, guardians drop like flies if you have more then 1+ Necro and/or mesmer, if they’re(guardian) charging headfirst into a zerg. Also wrong about blocks and retal. Retal does not proc if you block or dodge a enemy, the best thing you can do with blocks is get defenders flame, which burns foes for 1 sec per block.
odd, thought for sure blockign with retal still did the damage, guess it was just burning I was noticing. Also my b on the blast on aa chain, you’re right it is on 2, don’t know why I forgot that. Last thing though, most mesmers and necros in zergs aren’t thinking that far ahead to take any anti-charging guardian utilities. Most of them just aoe the zerg and follow theirs with w.e is going on. If there were people paying attention like that then sure the guardian bull rush might not work all to well but the problem is that vs zergs, it does. When the build is strong enough to facetank a zerg and get out alive, it becomes pretty annoying when it’s in a 1v1 situation, esp pvp where bunker builds are unaffected where burst and dps builds are HEAVILY nerfed compared to wvw.
already done
The Dagger skin looks pretty cool. Too bad I have one just sitting in my bank.
I’ll trade you for for any of mine
also /cry
I came back on a little while later and tried my luck at the 1st dungeon again but with the new character I was talking about before. Everything went easy and smooth… until the 1st drop happened. We are all level 11 and a level 11 item dropped that would be good for any 3 of us. I get the item this time and immediately equip it. Death threats and rage ensue. Not even kidding. For the next 40 freaking minutes of this dungeon, all we hear is this guy and his friend trying to explain to us why this one item is useless on us and so we should just give every item we get to them. This goes on and on for every drop… even the ones the 2 friends pick up. SUPER ANNOYING. I decide to try the dungeon 1 last time. Same kitten. Different people, same death threats, same annoying logic for 20 mins. At least these guys had the decency to leave the group half way through. Me and the 1 other chill guy in the group decided to stay try to finish. We got to the final boss before we hit one MASSIVE road block. If you’re fighting the boss, you can’t tag team it cause whenever you swap, the boss resets. You can’t beat the boss as a team since neither of our classes had ANY way to heal ourselves or others. There’s no dodge mechanic so we had to face tank all the damage. If someone were to survive long enough for the other guy to res and run all the way back, the moment that guy got back into the room, the boss would insta reset.
After that, I uninstalled the game and came back to gw2.
Now if there’s any, what’s your horror story for trying to leave gw2 for someting else.
Story time! I want to 1st start about what’s good with swtor. It has GREAT dialogue, very good voice acting, good and reliable loot, leveling isn’t bad, and the story is GREAT. Now with why I had to get out FAST.
I went to swtor cause it was free to play. 1st thing that happened when I logged on, there was some guy saying he was experienced and willing to help new players figure out the game. I thought, what a nice guy… then IT happened. Another person in chat responded. RAGE! SO mad at the guy for talking in map chat, demanding that he shut up. Death threats ensued among with a LOT of vulgarness The nice guy kept trying to help newbies like myself so he put the other guy on ignore. Problem is, ignore doesn’t “ignore” the whispers and mail. The jerk player was whispering him death threats, sending him death threat mail, very much so harassing the guy.
Got to a new zone, didn’t even realize it’s the same jerk from before. I said hello, so he started following me around, spamming the “clap” emote. It’s an annoying emote that you can’t mute without muting your game and it sounds very much like someone kitten. He followed me, continuously spamming this clap emote, for 2 hours. The fast travel mechanism in the game lets you travel once every 2 hours and I had already used mine so there was no escape from this jerk. I finally got far enough in my personal story to get into a long personal instance where the guy couldn’t follow so thank god for that. He was gone forever.
Shortly after I am able to discover a new zone. YAY. I also get access to my 1st dungeon, super happy cause dungeon are my thing. 1st run goes smooth as it’s a very easy dungeon and such despite getting insulted for being a f2p noob for the entire run.
Then I realized I very much so hated the class I was using. Didn’t know why but I found out it wasn’t the class but the combat system. You can’t swing your weapons unless you have something targetted and are in range of said target. On top of that, you can’t dodge. If you’re in range of an attack, see the attack coming, and move VERY far out of the way, it will still hit you. The play isn’t in making people waste their attacks and take advantage, it’s in never getting attacked at all… super boring.
I decided to make a new character. Go into the start zone with more knowledge and experience, everything is going significantly smoother. I get a few levels under my belt and notice someone is asking for help on a hard quest. I offer to help but let him know I have a far ways to walk and no fast travel to get there. He says that’s fine and so I make my LONG journey back. About half way back to the guy he starts complaining that I’m taking too long, that I should be this and that, then starts insulting me. About 2/3 of the way there, he’s openly cussing and clearly is po’d. When I FINALLY get there, he’s fuming but no longer talking. He spawns the boss, it goes after me, so I start kiting it in a circle trying to stay alive. He stands in the middle spamming “laugh” then says “I can’t see the boss”… Right. So we start the boss again (I just wanted my exp boost). This time he helps out… at the start. I get the boss to about 50% with kiting him around, trying to stay alive. Then the guy just stops, spams laugh some more, then says “I hope you fking die you bleep de bleep bleep bleep.” So when I finally die, the guy goes ahead and finishes off the boss. He takes absurdly long to try to accept the reward, trying to get me to leave pt so I don’t get the chance at the item.
You see loot in the game is great but every party member gets to see what drops but the game only gives it to 1 guy after dangling it in front of everyone eles. That kitten es a LOT of people off when they don’t get the item they want.
So anyways I stick it out and actually get the item! It’s even one I could really use but you see the other guy didn’t like that, not one bit. So he map chat rages and death threats me again. When I block him, he starts whispering me and mailing me more crap that I can’t block and he just won’t quit. So I logged off for a few hours.
fractal skin will lose its prestige once rng is gone..
i doubt anyone will go to fract anymore once the desired skins is obtained.
And how is that a problem? That’s not a problem with the attainability of the skin, it’s a problem with the design of the dungeon and the fact players were forced to do content that they didn’t want to do to obtain a skin that isn’t available anywhere else or any other way.
At least you are getting skins.
me? weeks now, nothing. Not even a ring. Not that I need rings, I’ve an entire bank slot full of useless heal/cond junk as it is.
That said, I got a fractal gs on my very first ever 30 run. It’s on my warrior, who I login maybe once a week for no particular reason.I’m waiting for patch notes. I’ll check out this new molten dungeon for sure, but
ifwhen fotm gets completely ignored for another month, I’ll go put my time elsewhere.
I didn’t get a skin for the 1st month that I did fractals. I then didn’t get a skin for another month. I then got 3 skins in a week and now it’s back to about 1 skin a month of doing either 38 or 48 every day. I took a break for a little while b/c I can only be po’d at a game for so long before I just straight up quit.
@stale, one thing you forgot to take into consideration. When a guard lays down a symbol it becomes a light field. They then leap through the symbol to give them 5s (pretty sure it’s 5) of retaliation. Lastly, I don’t hate guards, I’m just tired of threads like this where guards are saying that this 3% more damage per boon and 1 added ability on 1 weapon set (set, meaning the player is forced into that main AND offhand weapon set) will make them completely useless and need massive buffs to compensate for these slight nerfs.
Also about symbols, I agree they are hard to use effectively but even if your opponent doesn’t get hit by the 3rd strike, it still gets lay’d down, giving you a field to use and protection to utilize. The 3rd strike on hammer is also a blast finisher so if there’s any other field down before hand, you’re getting those boons as well.
I gave the largest number because the fellow I was responding to believes guardians are unkillable tanks that deal imba damage.
where the heck did I say ANYTHING like that? Never once said they dealt any significant damage if they were tank. I just said they were the 1 class that CAN kill someone without attacking. That is fact, not exaggeration. Considering that I’ve seen countless times a guardian rushing a zerg (strategic reason ofc but they should have died for this maneuver), break the front, and walk out alive usually with a few kills under their belt. Didn’t say they 100-0 someone, just they were able to keep some people pinned down long enough for their zerg to overwhelm them. All truth here and all backed up by personal experience.
Lastly about not attacking when retal is up. It isn’t that simple sadly b/c retal is up far too often (backed up by devs in the sotg thingy, rewatch it if you don’t believe me) and when retal IS up, the guy with the boon is still able to kill you. One last problem with retaliation is that other devs straight up said they want the player to be playing the game, not the UI. Retaliation is counter productive to that entirely.

Randomfightfan,
Whoa, whoa wait a minute man.
Bajillion blocks? Guardian has the same blocking capability as warrior outside of aegis, which works for one hit. Warrior blocking skills last longer and you can trait to reflect projectiles.
Guardian: Shelter = Warrior: Shield Stance
Guardian: Mace skill 3 = Warrior: Mace skill 2Guardian just gets aegis every 40secs, if you trait it becomes 30secs. And if you put points into the valor line you get aegis at 50% hp. That is hardly a bajillion skills. Would it be fair to exaggerate about warriors gazillion hp compared to guardians mere 10k base hp?
As for perma protection, writ of persistence doesn’t increase symbol of protection duration by much at all. Also, in order to have perma protection it requires the guardian to sit there and spam auto attack. Yes folks, sit there. Its lovely in pve were mobs have low intellect and will face tank you.
But in pvp? Players will just kite you. So you have to chase them down to get the third hammer hit in order to proc the symbol. In which you won’t stand in long because they will continue to kite you out of it.
Exaggerations do nothing for the topic, when you are trying to prove a point at least make sure its factual and practical.
focus 5, retreat, passive every 40s, active on top of the passive, invuln elite, basically invuln while healing due to the blocks, sanctuary heals you while making it so no one can get into melee range to hit you or shoot you with projectiles, trait so your virtues reset when something something. I know I’m missing a few things but I don’t play guardian (only leveled one to 50 something before deleting it… twice)so I don’t know all their stuff. Not to mention the trait burn while blocking and you still get retaliation procs off while blocking.
A warrior and engi both have access to frenzy which makes them take 50% increased damage. Guaranteed they were using those abilities since I have used mug countless times and the highest I’ve ever had it hit against anything was 8k against someone who dropped me a lvl 1 white in wvw.
