clearly population and time zone coverage didnt play a big factor. I mean, we all should know by now that 1 BG player can take out 10 SoR and IoJ players because they are THAT good.

Look at the top 4 brackets. The scores aren’t really extremely close there.
One of the problems is a winning server like Blackgate or Tarnished should not be allowed to sit here and win 6 weeks in a row with little to no chance of losing. That takes the issue here and exacerbates it far beyond what is necessary.
The math could either be tweaked to allow more volativity in the scores or any other number of changes could be implemented.
although, like the transfer problem, this is Arenanet’s failing and not our community. We can only do our best to enjoy the imperfect and slow to improve system we were given.

unfortunately, it’s the SoR and IoJ WvW players that will be punished for what they did. Gutless, that’s all I have to say.
Well, gotta say we’ve had a lot of fun against SoR and IoJ.
[NOC] Nocturnal are out there most nights fighting and having a blast! There’s been some great fights, we’ve won some, we’ve lost some, but we’re always taking the kitten out of each other regardless and that’s what makes it fun!

it’s always fun when u play against servers that lack the resources to win against you, I wish I can say the same.
An IoJ/SoR combo makes sense from a technical perspective: we have somewhat opposing peak hours, and we know each other’s capabilities on the field.
I’m pretty sure both of us like the servers we are on though. A lot of SoR probably wouldn’t leave strictly for W3 purposes, and I’ve heard more than a few IoJ say the same. Personally, for those that refuse to leave it’s kind of admirable actually.
However…misery does love company.
ND just left SoR for BG strictly for W3 purproses…
I guess If you cant win them, join them. Let see if this is the tip of the iceberg for SoR, now even with a bigger hole to fill in a none NA prime time slot…

Who wants to fight the same servers and guilds for over a month?
In theory I know what you mean, but I can’t help it, when I fight BG and IoJ I have a good time. Even though BG is relentless about coming out on top, my in-game experience is you win some and you lose some.
problem right now is BG is always winning. SoR/IoJ never win some, we lose all the time (I mean score and standing). Having fun is subjective to individual’s taste, while I can agree action is plenty in this tier and the que time is not too bad, the feeling of not able to have a chance at being number 1 even we gave our best effort as a server (due to coverage issue) just dont sit well with me in the long term. I think combining IoJ and SoR to fill each other’s coverage holes could work, but it means everybody has to buy in on it.

Orr is dead, most group/temple events can not be done.
Orr is not dead on my server. Unless you frequent all servers, which I suspect you haven’t, you have no business making such false blanket claims.
His statement is based in his perspective, which is his server. Just because your server is not “dead” in Orr doesn’t entitle you to throw out his concern. You did exactly what you bashed him for — nice work.
Anyway, Orr is dead on my server as well (Yak’s). I’ve been waiting for days for Melandru’s to open up or enough bodies to show up to do it.
It’s a mixed bag for ANet to put in the temple content. It’s there to encourage participation, but at the same time it’s unusable by the few in Orr if there are insufficient players to perform the content.
There are a few ideas floated already about reviving activity in Orr. However the introduction of Fractals has really killed the “end game” for everything but fractals. I don’t see that changing as long as fractals remains more compelling than anything else in the game (you can fill in the blank with your own reasons for “compelling” as it’s different by Player).
Since the Nov 15th patch, the drops in world NPCs have gone to kitten. I’ve killed enough champs while doing my daily gathering runs to say that you’re lucky if you get a green or blue out of them.
I am a bit confused, there are so many guilds within this network, so which of those guilds are currently recruiting? I am a WvW addict, but looking for a guild that has an active PvE functions and do FOTM with experienced players.
They should just massively buff the outmanned buff. Something like 10x event rewards, so if you take a tower at lvl 80 that’s 40s, take a keep and it’s 80s. That’s something I would go for.
I agree, and automatic upgrade to reinforced gates and walls for the losing team’s towers.
Am I the only guy on SoR who is fine with 2nd place? We would dominate a lower tier and get are kitten handed to us in the first tier so…. As far as I’m converned there is no benifit to winning and at least I know I can always get a fight when I log on.
I prefer to be able to be 1st place once in a while, so yea I do hope we drop a tier and get change of pace on the current tier.
How does the +5 crit chance sigil compare to sigil of Force(5%damage)?
Ele main here w/ Thief alt. Some tips:
1. It’s true, many of us run 3 stunbreaks via cantrips. The key to winning this fight is making us blow cantrips. Ele’s HATE being kited / unable to fight back, and will use up their utils to break free.
2. What makes us use these? Just about anything that limits our movement or actions. Immobilize, daze, stun, Bask venom, etc.
3. Although Ele’s have tons of condition removal, it doesn’t mean it isn’t effective in the long run. Average bleed times last around 9 – 10s. If you force them to use cantrips early, the only thing they’ve got is water attunement. The second they leave water, hit them with everything you’ve got. It will take at least 9s to swap back to water, which can be plenty of time to have lots of conditions ticking their full duration.
4. The most common ele build for D/D is 0/10/0/30/30. I was running with 17k health, decent heals and condi removal, but suprisingly low armor. About 2.1k I think. That means these builds WILL crumble under burst damage if they can’t avoid it. DON’T OPEN WITH YOUR BIGGEST BURST, this is where so many thieves go wrong. Draw out the fight a bit, then hit them hard and fast.
5. Stealth is still a royal pain in the rear to deal with, even when having lots of point blank AoE. Use cloak and dagger frequently if you have dagger offhand, and be somewhat unpredictable with it. Move around and dodge back, force Ele’s to use their gap closers and blow their CDs looking for you. Ele’s have 20 weapon skills, but they all have very long CD’s for the most part.
6. D/D thieves are incredibly predictable for Eles. Do something a little more unorthodox. Here’s a hint: D/D eles are forced to move to where you are, so get something with some range. I fought a P/D thief the other day and he was stacking venoms, bleeds, etc. on top of being constantly stealthed every few seconds and kiting me like crazy. He also used thieve’s guild which made the fight even more frustrating. D/D Ele’s have a lot of AoE, true, but most of it is PBAoE, or must be lined up properly, and stealth really messes with that.
7. If you see them start channeling Churning Earth, don’t panic, and don’t try to run out of the AoE. They will use Lightning Flash towards the end of the channel and teleport to you. Right at the 3s mark you just dodge and it doesn’t matter where they go, now they’ve just blown a big CD and one of their strongest skills. The best part? You can beat on them hard within that cast time once you get the timing down. Dodge again immediately after your first dodge if you think they’re going to use Earthquake (knockdown) right after.

After 28 hours of play in 2 days I finally had to take a break for real life, finals, and papers. It’s been one hell of a week and I have to say I don’t think I have ever been more challenged in WvW.
This week is still not over, but win or lose no one should sell themselves short. SoR, you knocked us squarely on our kitten out of the weekend and we had to muster a hell of a lot of people to stage a comeback. IoJ, you all don’t know the meaning of the word quit. I’ve had more fun this week than I have in a long time and I’m glad that, in an environment of WvW with no real returns, that we can still have this sort of a turnout and competitive spirit (just wait til February!). We had 48 hours of an all call in KnT playing anywhere from 12pm Pacific until 4am just to make up the difference. What you saw was our server going the extra mile. That resilience is what makes us Blackgate.
I am going to refrain from the mandatory kittentalking here, but I hope this dispels some of the nonsense that has been spewed on these forums over the past 2 weeks, especially concerning my guild. I’ve tried my best to stay out of the forum wars and be cordial in my posts. Our policy has become one of killing with class on the forums and steel in the fields
[TW], we love to hate you and I think you took your share of licks from us just as we took ours. The only PvE we do is when we are farming badges. [HIRE], I can see a budding rivalry and I’m excited to fight you more in the future. Tier 2 isn’t changing for a while yet, so we might as well get comfortable.

I hope there is change in tier 2, giving all we got on SoR and the biggest enemy is time zone / population coverage. I rather we drop a tier and fight on equal footing with servers that have the same prime time population, at least the loss is within our control. I dont know how many students actually play on SoR, but not all of us working folks can decide to play until 4 AM and still go to work the next day…
does Magic Finder helps at all with this method? Frankly I have notice much different wearing them…

I think MF has lost significant value since the Nov 15th patch when Anet stealth nerfed the drop rates of many NPCs.
out of the two, I would say incinerator. Personally I am working towards the Bolt.

If they want to alter a class defining skill, then I want other classes suffer the same fate. You nerf one, you nerf them all. And thief as a class already been nerfed numerous times.

wouldn’t it be easy to circumvent the breakout events by the opposing team(s) in control just by leaving one tower alone in a zone they dominated?
I cant find anyone to do FOTM 1 with… Tried it with PUG twice, couldnt complete either due to disconnect bug or people have to leave early, sigh…

Yes, but when you enter FotM, you all need to be in the same overflow channel.

I’m running Ruby Orbs on my thief. I say its a matter of style as to how you kill. My main hand dagger gives me chance to gain might on crit, combo-ed with a nourishment(forgot the name) that gives 100% might gain upon using dodge/endurance and +40% endurance gain, I get the most of my might as it doubles my power.
If you really want recommendation I say Orbs or Divinity.
from a cost / effectiveness perspective, orbs will be the way to go. I got my runes before the back in October, so the price was not as high as they are now.
i use air /force on my daggers and then bloodlust on my shortbow. if your team wins a fight you can get 20 stacks in just that one fight. also as a burst spec thief you will spend most of your time using your shortbow and only use your backstabs for when target is less than 50 % so you get the 20 % dmg bonus as well. this is because you are very easy to kill ad will always be one of the first targets chosen. for runes i use 5 scholar 1 divinity. i spend almost no time above 90 % hp so i found this gives me better overall damage
I agree counting on 6/6 runes of scholar is unreliable, more than half the way you will drop below 90% of your health after few secs when facing enemies. I do see it as great for roamers that look for small encounters, personally, I run 6/6 divinity.

yea, it is funny. Grinding is “ok” or “fun” if it’s WvW or PvP. Double standard much? lol.
I also dont like PvE or raiding dungeons, but that doesnt mean I would be naive to think that players that are doing them are not enjoying those content.
They live the burst they’ll run as far as they can. Last one i just fought literally blew all his get aways. Ran past my ability to render him.

hello SoR community,
I am looking for a well established guild with active members in EST time zone on SoR server. I love WvW, but given the current direction of the game that requires PvE content to get better gears, I am looking for guild that are good with PvE content instead of pugging all the time. I have tried FOTM level 1 three times the past week pugging, but all ended miserably. As it stands, I am looking for guild that do both WvW and PvE, but with some experience and leadership for the PvE to willing to help / mentor members with new contents.
Here are some info about myself:
- NA prime time (EST)
- play at least 5 nights a week, roughly 20 to 25 hours, if not more.
- No mic, but have no problem listening in on voice comm
- 2 level 80s in exotic gears, Elementalist and Thief (current main).
For anyone that will contact me, please let me know if there’s any special requirement for your guild, such as represent rules (I am not looking to leave my current casual guild due to some real life friends, but I will represent the new guild tag if required) or any other requirements.

Bloodlust sigils are garbage for WvW.
What, are you going to sit there EVERY time you die and kill 25 mobs just to get your stacks? Then, after you have those stacks, on your way to the fight you get zerged and wash, rinse, repeat.
I cant agree that it’s garbage, but I do think people overvalue the Bloodlust sigil in WvW. Maybe if you always follow a zerg in WvW, but I have sigil of energy on my shortbow, and I main Sword / dagger (sigil of fire / +crit dmg). I find the gain 50% endurance when swapping weapon in combat pretty valuable, that plus 15 in acrobatic will give you double the dodge attempts in a “oh crap” moment.
It really depends on your personal taste and budget, if you are looking on trading post, moonshank is my favorite for under 7 gold… Any other ones such as destroyer or corrupted will be super expensive, but if you can afford them, they look pretty nice as well.
I’ve heard rumors that the change to the mesmer runes was reversed…..still think paralyzation won’t, though as it’s a “stun” sigil while mesmer is specifically “daze”
Well after a short while testing, I can personally see no difference using mesmer runes or the sigil, the sigil I’m not too bothered about (was most likely a bug when it did used to work) but the mesmer rune 33% to me seems bugged and is not applied.
Would be quite helpful to have a dev could perhaps explain the mechanics and whether it does work or not
I asked similar question on guildwars2guru.com last week, few people confirmed that Rune of Mesmer does increase the duration. I am not sure I can post a link here, but if you go to the pvp thief section of the forum, you will find the 2 threads about it…
I applaud this effort. Too many PvE carebears on SoR, we need more WvW players for EU and Oceanic zone to help our effort against BlackGate.

Alt+F4 is no escape
If someone that you’re fighting disconnects during combat (via Alt+F4, killing the client process, etc.) their character will be instantly killed, death penalties will be applied, and XP & loot will be handed out as usual.
too long of a post, but easy fix would be allow each user to toggle commander’s icon visibility based on a list, kind of like your in-game friend’s list. Because for every good commanders out there, there are twice as many bad ones running around. Allowing the user to only add the commanders’ names to their own list will avoid seeing bad commanders’ icons on their map view.
ANet should never just let the icon be a purchase only option, it should be more tie to the server community, like the wvw players can vote for other individuals to promote to commander status, thus allow those players be able to purchase the icons.
Thobek, we have no speed boost in combat. In fact our mobility is rather lacking.
As for the topic, I don’t like damage in stealth. Or the repeated stealth. It’s not conducive to fun gameplay for someone to run around looking for a stealthed person, or to die without seeing your opponent. Stealth ideally should provide superior openers, then let the player settle the score.
If I had an opinion in the ANet dev meeting I would turnk CnD into a reflect/evade mini buff when used, remove the stealth component. Remove the stealth from pistol/dagger combo and then turn thief speed buff into an “in combat” speed buff as well. So they can retain their mobility but not have the protection of continuously stealthing while in combat.
And leave shadows refuge as is, if players don’t know how to combat that one .. then there are larger issues at play.
Why would thief community accept the removal of stealth just for an in combat speed buff? I mean, seriously, are you freaking kidding me?
Unlike many folks, I actually saw noticeable improvement with this change. When an enemy zerg came up behind my allied zerg, I was able to render most (if not all) of them.
I have a fairly high-end rig, so that surely has something to do with it.
I have a decent rig (play on an Alienware M17X R4), but I still have not notice any significant improvement. I am a thief player and I even want the culling issue to be addressed asap…
