In the AMA initiated by Mo, they announced that an expansion is in the works and elite specs only come with expansions. Which classes future elite spec gets shafted because of the first elite spec that came out? Only Mesmer because the base has to be held in check to prevent CS making it OP.

Fooled me once, I am not buying the next expansion because Anet proved they are incapable of properly balance class in all game modes.

Also, the mesmers have a long history of self hatred. They have always, since practically the beginning, cried for nerfs to their own class. It seems to be just the pvp’ers, though. They seem to always think they are overpowered, or that some particular build is “cheesy”, and yet the mesmer is pretty darn weak in pve.

The mesmer is a pretty unique class. I have never seen anything like it in any games I have ever played. I still play it because the mechanic can be very fun. But now I spend the majority of my time playing other classes because the damage is substandard.

1. Do NOT allow builds to sustain based on heals.
- Everything between 100-0 is virtually infinite. If these builds NEED to exist being hard focused should be a quick death, builds like these should also be susceptible to murader/zerker burst 1v1 to be a countered and healthy for the game type. (otherwise we get everyone stuck into being bruisers or not viable.)
-Such builds should not be supplemented with blocks and invulns.

2. Make a more obvious animation for moa, perhaps an animation that displays on the target (doesn’t appear during stealth cast) so players know they are being targeted and can react.

3. Reduce the imbalance between hard counter matchups. Although better than in the past, things like Thief vs shatter Mes should not be so one sided. If we can fix this while having diversity maybe we can have a balanced game type based around actually killing each other.

4. Balance every two weeks, however do not kill diversity.
-If something needs to be nerfed, consider all attached builds and nerf accordingly. Same goes for buffs.
-If something is objectively imbalanced (mathematically not just “durr I didn’t doge this one skill that is the only thing that does damage and is easy to see coming. It’s OP!”) fix it ASAP.

5. DO THE TECHNICAL STUFF PROPERLY/HAVE CUSTOMER QUALITY ASSURANCE!
-This means fix bugs and testing, players shouldn’t log in attack a golem and notice an issue on a main weapon everyone else uses.
-have REAL balance teams for EACH game mode (PvP, WvW, PvE.)
-Get a proper PTR. If you worry about players only playing the PTR give it no drop rates, everyone gets the same gear (however can transmute freely based on their wardrobe), and regular whipes.
-Simple QOL things like Queuing outside the mists.

-

6. Rebalance
- Starting from scratch pick a base, calculate a proper TTK for the competitive scene, include factors such as set up and sustain, then branch off these numbers while creating and diversifying other classes. Take suggestions 1, 3 and 5 into consideration from the ground up.

1) Continuum Split Moa- Let’s take on of the best skills in the game, and cut the cd in half. And Half is a rough estimate, considering the alacrity production.
Why does continuum split still affect elite skills anyway. Let’s just chop the cd of every elite in the game in half. What kind of balance does that generate?
2) Moa- Casting this skill behind you is strong. I have definitely been moa’ed by mesmers facing the wrong way.

Mesmer got overnerfed compare to all the classes, alacrity got butchered, u want to nerf them even more, you better start coming up compensations.

Is this thread a joke? Mes is the only class that has been consistently nerfed pre and post elites, to the extent that there is just one viable build left. To nerf mes any more would be to simply remove the class from the game.

What some people do not realise is that Mes has always been a high threshold skill class to play well. It is one of the few classes that has rotations that frequently cycle through both weapon sets constantly, unlike other classes that get away with just using one set 90-100% of the time. Mistakes made in play is punishable by insta death.

Don’t mistake player skill for class superiority because the truth is Mes is not among the top classes to play at the moment nor indeed for most of its life time, in fact the only time was during its brief fling with the chrono bunker meta (boring as it was) and that was quickly remedied by the devs who smashed all and any possibility of a mes playing that build again, even to the extent of punishing skills that weren’t even used in the bunker meta. However, ele, druid, and scrapper bunker remained untouched even though they can be just as immovable as a chrono bunker was on point.

This thread is truly a joke. If Mesmer is so effective (even after the overnerf), why arent more top teams ESL using them?

I’ll just leave my big blob of balance thought here, this is coming from an engi and thief main so if you think something is wrong with my suggestions then that may be why:

General Balance:
Split Pve and PvP balance (WvW will share balance with PvP)
-Big part of this is splitting the stacking of condis between the game modes. Leave it as it is in PvE so that people who enjoy that styl more won’t be shut out due to elitism and then PvE content can be added in the future that utilizes condi within it’s gameplay (VG). In PvP, change it to what it was before they were allowed to stack. Issue right now with condi is that everything can be stacked really easily and that kills the mentality of condi being a DoT style. I have no issues with those builds being tanky because theoretically the tankiness is there to help them survive long enough for the degen to overcome their opponent. But when those builds are able to apply enough pressure to kill an opponent in 2 seconds then I see it as an issue that needs to be changed and frankly this is a quick way to do it that has already had years of testing done on it.
Remove class stacking in queues for PvP
-As a result no prof swapping would be allowed
-While some see it as a band aid fix that would increase queue times I see it as a way to limit the influence of some op builds which will then stop them from forcing all the other profs out of the meta which would then encourage others to play as they could use their favorite class.
-Make revealed 3 sec in pvp again, atm 4 sec is not needed and the 3 sec will allow for some other thief sets to be utilized.
-Remove condi and boon duration stat increases and set base durations to an amount deemed appropriate by the balance team

Profession specific balance:
Most of these changes are just what I believe would be the best choices based on my experiences in the game.

Thief:
Weapons
If we look at the flow of the sets it’s obvious that d/p is the best set. The set doesn’t need any traits to actually make the set function (i.e D/D needing cloaked in shadows). But rather than nerfing D/P I think the other sets should be modeled off of it in terms of just flowing together well and synergizing with every skill so the set feels complete and not like it’s fighting itself.

S/D- Mostly feels good but there’s a couple things that if changed will make the set meta worthy again. Dagger #4 needs a damage increase so it becomes a reliable way to damage a foe who is not within melee range (probably not a huge one but definitely something along the lines of 5-10%). Sword 2 return needs to be instant cast but not a stunbreaker (I.E. can’t be cast when cced but it still is helpful in the times that you need it) and removes 2 condis instead of just 1. Sword 3 needs to cycle on block (after all the skill description is cycles to larcenous if you hit a foe, even if they block it you still hit them you just didn’t deal damage) will remain as it is with evades and blinds as that is considered a miss. Dagger 5 should have a single target blind on it so the skill flows better within both s/d and d/d.

S/P- Keeps all the sword changes but now has #3 split into 2 different skills, The first one is a charge/leap that stuns your foe (just like pw does now) and if it hits (same interaction I mentioned with sword 3) it cycles to the damage part of pw. Reason for that change is then S/P has some stealth access without having to trait for bound allowing the set to be more self reliant rather than trait reliant.

D/D- Keep all the dagger offhand changes I mentioned above and then remove the bleeds from death blossom and change it to act like staff 3 where it hits and then rolls backwards so the set then has a gap opener/disengage and we remove the annoying death blossom lotus training condi builds at the same time.

Staff- #4 blind leaves a smoke field to allow the set to stealth via #4 and vault.

P/P- Have the AA change depending on whether you are p/p or p/d. If p/p, then the bleed from the stealth skill and aa will be removed and the damage will be buffed so it is stronger, rate of attack maybe buffed a bit just so it applies a little more pressure with it’s autos. If p/d it will stay the same as it is now. #2 would have a small roll backwards after the immob shot was fired that would also be a leap to allow the set to stealth itself with pistol 2 and 5 combo’d.

P/D- just incorporate the stuff I mentioned above and it should be fine.

Traits
DA-
most of the traits are fine as is unless heal on steal were added as a baseline but imo that’d be a bit too much so I will leave this line.

CS-
Keen Observer- Health threshold reduced to 80%
Flawless Strike- Health threshold reduced to 80%
Unrelenting Strikes gives 5s Fury on steal and 5s Fury when hitting a target below 90%, 10s ICD

SA-
Replace Cloaked in Shadow with “Gain 1 stack of stability for 3 sec when you enter stealth” (5 sec cd) In order to help thieves deal with inc cc when going in for a CnD
Remove the reveal proc from engi and aoe from scrapper and rev that strips stealth. Have all reveal require a target similar to “sic em”

Acrobatics-
Replace Instant reflexes with the old Power of inertia
Remove guarded initiation and swindler’s equilibrium and replace with “Vigor regenerates health” (100 base) and “7% damage while under the effects of vigor”

Trickery-
Preparedness made baseline
Base steal CD reduced to 25s
Removal of steal cooldown reduction from SoH
Lead Attacks giving a 20% cooldown reduction to steal instead of 15% -> 20s CD from 25s
Trickster removing 2 condis

Daredevil-
Impacting disruption has its damage reduced by 20%
Whirl finisher removed from lotus training
Leap finisher removed from bound
Dash no longer removes immob

Engineer:
Weapons/Skills
Hammer-
2-reduce damage by 7%
3-remove triple leap finisher (set it to only 1)
4-Remove damage from block but keep vuln stacks
5-Reduce range to 600
Slick shoes no longer knocks opponent down if they are not moving
Poison Grenade reverted to a poison field

Traits
Explosives-
Fine as is.

Firearms-
Fine as is.

Inventions-
Heal resonator regen duration reduced to 3 sec.
Energy amplifier reduced to +150 healing power instead of 250
Bunker down Med pack regen reduced to 3 sec and CD increased to 5 sec

Alchemy-
Protection injection CD increased to 10 sec
Remove Self-Regulating Defenses and replace with Automated response (Incoming condition duration reduced by 25% while below 50% hp)
Backpack regen base increased to 150 hps

Tools-
Streamlined kits cd reduced to 10 sec and swiftness reduced to 10 sec
Lock on changed to “Striking a foe in stealth shoots a rocket at them and knocks them down” (basically the explosives one) (10 sec CD)
Adrenal implant allowed to stack with vigor

Scrapper-
Recovery matrix duration changed to 4 sec.
Rapid regen swiftness heal changed to 135 base and super speed changed to 350
Mass momentum convertion reduced to 7%
Impact savant all values reduced from 25% to 20%
Final Salvo stability reduced to 3 sec, lightning field removed

Elementalist:
Weapons
Scepter- Buff the autoattack rate on the weapon so it can benefit from the signet.

Traits
Air
Remove Tempest defense and replace with “Cast a dust storm at your location when you are disabled” (45 sec CD)

Other Vanilla’s are fine as they are

Tempest
Unstable conduit- (All aura durations reduced to 3 sec)
Harmonious conduit- make the stability 3 sec and baseline (1 stack)
Elemental Bastion- Healing Decreased by 20%

Warrior:
I don’t know enough to speak for the playerbase here so I’ll leave that one to the experts

Ranger:
Weapons
Axe offhand whirling defense no longer roots you while casting
Rest are fine as it is

Pets
Smokescale damage reduced by 5% (only because every hit is guaranteed to land)
Vanilla pets hit reliability brought up to the level of the druid pets and all pets share stats with the player (reason being they can’t build full tank if they want to deal damage, forces players to invest stats into what they want to do in order to actually do it.

Marksmanship is fine

Skirmishing is fine

Wilderness survival is fine

Nature magic
Allies’ Aid- remove the increased revival speed as the pet res already does enough.
Protective ward- weakness is reduced to 3 sec

• Moa form’s duration reduced to three seconds down from 10 to account for the possibility of a double moa. To compensate for people losing their class mechanics (e.g., can’t cleanse or dodge out of it) moa gives the affected player triple their total (as opposed to base) toughness. This will increase the liklihood that moa’d players will remain in the game after it ends. Moa form cooldown reduced to 90 seconds.

It is a change we have asked for, it is out in the open and they given us information, and they shall have credit for this. Them talking to us giving info is a big step, that we have asked and begged for, for years.

How ever i will wait this out. I been disappointed before and until the talks turn in to actions i wont put much effort in to hopes and hypes. It is definitely a good start and something we wanted for so long and i appreciate it so far and that is as much as you get from me at this point.

2. Agree, but you have to consider the reason a profession or build is forced out. Right now, it’s a few OP builds forcing everything else out. Buffing builds which are no longer in the meta but were competitive pre-HoT just turns PvP into a mess of power creep.

Anet decides what they want to be in meta, let’s not forget certain classes continue to be meta after so many tweaks, how is that fair to other classes such as Mesmer that get nerfed to the ground after one appearance in meta, yet Ele/Engi continue to be immune to effects of buffs / nerfs? If those are the perfect template for classes, they should modify other classes to be the same level as those 2 classes.

Necros and Thiefs EVERYWHERE

Classes used in Unranked now:
-Scrapper
-Dragonhunter
-Thief(mostly high burst power, some decent condi builds sneak in)
-Bunker ele(High End pvp because bad players get punished now)
-Reaper
-Rev(both condi and flat damage)
-Killshot warrior, wildfire warrior is “Safer” because it cant be reflected, but both seem viable in low-tier pvp(amber-saphire)
-Druid is good in teamfights, but isnt used very often
-Mesmers are really challenging to fight (if they are good) in 1v1’s, when outnumbered they tend to get focused down quite quickly

Not my experience.

Dude don’t forget the double mesmers well, the cc that they bring in tf is insane!!! But yeah, most of them switched to condI PU mesmer but the chrono mesmers are still strong in tf.

then where the kitten are they in the past weekend’s pro games? 1? LOL, please stop trying to downplay how terrible Mesmer is right now. And all the thieves trying to downplay their abilities to avoid a nerf, they are not so squishy and with staff they are doing tons of damage with good evades.

Yes actually we will. They are over performing and need to be nerfed. They’ve been over performing since their introduction to the game….by design i might add.

It’s actually very simple. Nerf them. It doesn’t matter how it is done but the result in only at max 1 per team. I made this thread not as QQ but as an avenue to help the devs collect ideas on what is over performing on the class.

your comments have never been helpful, more like pretending to be helpful but try to get people behind your ideas to more nerfs.

In line? you’re kidding right? Aegis, you seriously contend that’s worth anything?

Shield got multiple nerfs.

Alacrity has been crushed so far as to be worthless in pvp, though I run it in dungeons sometimes. I run teaching paths and the noobs need that and the double tw and /or [FeedBack] sometimes.

Rev has a block comparable to old shield, as does engi. Hell… some of the guardian blocks are close. Warrior probably has similar though I don’t play it often enough to know for sure. Daredevil has perma evade and a killer auto attack. In the case of engi they also have an elixir that does basically the same thing. Oh and they have better tanking than a pre nerf chronomancer.

How was shield or well bad again?

The other thing is this. ANET destroyed most of what Mesmer had. Witness the pro players.

Chaith mocked me pre patch saying I was paranoid and that Mesmer would be strong post patch. He was dead wrong. I Abjure his statements.

ANET has a long history of nerfing Mesmer very hard and leaving it broken for months or in some cases literally years.

Dude, I hope you realize that we have prepubescent kid who have yet to develop their frontal cortex. I mean, it doesn’t take rocket science; this game has 9 class so , at least , 4 classes are garanteed to be left out.

so, in other real esports games like Dota and LOL, how many champs/heros do they have? Are you saying it’s norm that always the same ones that wins championships? Both games have better balance with more variety to heroes/champs, but Anet only have 9 to work it and yet they cant get their kitten together to have proper balance.

So I am curious.

Given you clearly watched the matches today and there was a grand total of one druid (and several eles), why do you think this proves druids need nerfs ?

And 1 Mesmer, clearly Anet overnerf the class and it needs a buff for better representation in the pro league competitions.

OMG you guys, they just said it last month that they are working on it and it will be ready later this year, you guys want a daily blog or something? I mean there’s nothing much to say for a daily blog unless you want to hear about pve stuff the wvw staff are working on. I’m sure they’ve come in here and read the thread titles, and have a good idea of how to revive wvw.

God they’re on year four of the five year wvw overhaul, cut them some slack. I’m sure they will be out of planning phase soon, and they will let us know a week before when it’s ready for live release, they’ll even have a one paragraph blog set up everyday to highlight the main things coming, so have some patience. Four year wait is not as bad as waiting for your kids to grow up and leave for college.

P.S They don’t respond in these sub forums, and a lot of doubt that they even read it. No point in trying anymore.

get your fact straight, they never promised it will be ready, they said beta.

I know we’ve been waiting for three years for some proper attention to WvW – but not for this overhaul. I’d say at most about two years for this and perhaps in all seriousness just over one. During the past three years many things have changed including the WvW lead at Anet and probably the development team (that includes personnel or size – I have no idea and they don’t tell us).

I do not support a longer delay than is necessary to do a proper job, but I also cannot see the sense in throwing a tantrum and demanding that Anet do something immediately to fix this issue or that issue, nor to be honest do I see the point in continuing toxic behaviour on this forum.

The lack of information from Anet is deplorable and can only serve to affect customer relations in a negative way. They know this and we know this. There is however nothing to be gained from continuing to repeat the situation: if anything was going to be done then it should have been done before now.
The only hopeful option left for us is that they really are working on a major overhaul and that it will make (genuine) improvements based on the many good ideas put forward over the last year or so. Wishing this overhaul to happen now does not change the coding or time required, and probably won’t affect the resources assigned to the job either.

I have clearly stated I would welcome more information or confirmation, but Anet policy seems to be like mushroom farming. It’s not just us however, the changes to the PvP season 2 match making system were announced on Reddit and on the new eSports website, but no official link or mention in the GW2 forums or game notes. In other words this is a company wide problem and not aimed directly at WvW. To be honest I can’t see it changing however much it really needs to.

So that leaves me two viable options: be patient, or walk away. I’ve made my choice and you’ll make your own. But a third option of stay but keep complaining? I really can’t see how that helps any more.

you can take your “be patient” preaching and go shove it you know where… We are done being patient. Look at other game modes, Anet is always communicating with them. Ex-WvW lead admitting to not working on anything since March 2015 (while still has the job title), the terrible desert BL when feedbacks were provided but ignored, and the exclusion of WvW updates for HOT release are acceptable to you? You make me sick.

Dont forget to check out the sPvP forum, they just got tons of updates on season 2, now that’s a communication we want from ANet, not this current bullkitten.

Anet sure is going out of their way to make sure Mesmers cant even come up with build that will give them a fair chance in sPvP.

yep,

tried playing other classes, just not the same. The game is pretty much done for me. I heard rumors of WvW testing invites were sent out, so maybe they are fixing a game mode that enjoy the most, maybe that will bring me back.

For now, it is catching up on my single player games and waiting for the next MMO that offers WvW type of mode for me.

Well just have a look at the other topics talking about the Mesmer. This class is used to play only ONE BUILD to have a small chance to survive. And even this build is not competitive with other classbuilds. Cmon dont be so ignorant.

you definitely didn’t play ele during dhumfire times

then you would truly know what it means to have 1 build and extremely small chance to survive~

mesmers were NEVER in bad state, they just weren’t always stupidly faceroll (besides old PU condi)

for one meta period that ele had it really bad, the class end up dominated multiple metas. I’d trade that experience as a Mesmer.

Say the class was never in a “bad state” is just try to downplay how the class always been treated / neglected by Anet compare to other classes.

I got a good laugh out of that section of the blog post though. It even admits that this ‘fix’ only addresses a tiny number of cases. The majority of potentially unfair match ups are untouched.

And posting to say the invitation has been there for 5 months again is not helpful. I am sure people have applied, yet you have not chosen anyone. I mean your communication with us has been so great over the last 3 years, I am sure many WvW are eagerly refreshing the News subforum for your latest information on WvW.

you need to realize, some people get paid to appear to be helpful, it doesn’t mean they are actually helpful (or just being selective on what community to be helpful to). You dont need to be a detective to figure that out…

I guess the point that op’s is trying to make is that if a game mode dont work, dont be afraid to pull it out. Spending money to fix something that’s never gonna work is just wasteful.

Hi folks.

I’m not sure how many of you are aware, but Anet is actually developing things for wvw. The fact that we’ve heard nothing about it is one things, but I’m here to (maybe) stir up some drama about a different aspect of this.

Anet has been inviting guilds to participate in the ‘beta’ or whatever you’d call it for WvW changes. However, of the 2 guilds I know that were invited, 1 still plays the game and it is a PvE guild. The WvW guild that I know has been invited died almost half a year ago and few of its members still play.

HOW IS THIS A THING THAT IS HAPPENING? What part of game development has its developers draw a group to test it from outside the population currently playing the content? I get maybe drawing in a few PvE folks to test things, but for the most part, when it comes to a WvW update, why do you not get actual (and current) WvW players to test things? We know the kind of kitten that went down if EotM and the desert borderlands. If Anet honestly thinks that they can pull the same kitten and get a better result, I feel even more sorry for the state of this game.

That’s the freaking problem, Anet invited a “PVE” (yes, read it again, PVE) guild to test the upcoming changes that they want to put into WvW. Do I need to point out what is wrong with that approach? Do we need more PvE events in WvW?

No way. Maybe one or two of those. Can we have an honest discussion without fudging the facts? I am not sure this skill is op or not I am going to have to see it in practice in something more then unranked but I am leaning toward op because it is close to a guaranteed rez with good players and I thought we wanted to stop things like that hence why Mesmers got nerfed. A timely rez can be a fight turner A-net has to be very careful with trivializing them in any way shape or form.

Thanks for pointing that out. How hypocritical of people seems mostly fine with this Search & Rescue buff, but Chronobunker rezzing is so terrible.

The sPvP community just have a thing against Mesmer, pure and simple. Every class can be in meta, but if Mesmer made it there ONCE, they had to cry and kitten to get it class out of the meta.
