You absolutely don’t need a staff as second weapon set. Proven by Celestial builds for example.

so Sword / X is a must, so it’s down to players to choose between staff or hammer. Just checked metabattle that the current meta is staff, and is your celestial builds one of the builds listed under the test section on metabattle?

after the October 27th path, 2 of my completed HP locations on Verdant Brink map shows still available to be completed, yet when I try to commune, it says “I’ve gained all the power” already at the location.

The 2 HP locations are:
– Pact Airship Wreckage Hero Point
- Nuhoch Alchemical Energy Hero Point

I’ve completed them before, and now they are not counting towards map completion.

The common denominator is not “I don’t want to play to unlock this,” its “I don’t want to grind masteries for 20+ hours and burn through new PvE content to enjoy the rest of the game with new elite specs,” such as dungeons, fractals, wvw, etc.

Only because playing the content has somehow become ‘grind’. I’ve spent my time taking part in events, earning rewards and my masteries level as a result. Is that not how it’s meant to work? If I was going to get everything maxed as soon as the game went live, or in the 20+ hours quoted, I’d have seen it as an epic waste of money as imo a game is there to be played over a long period of time. I don’t care that I’ve not maxed my Reaper traits and all masteries in one day, means there’s more stuff for me to do tomorrow. No one’s putting a gun to anyone’s head and saying ‘sit there for however long it takes and don’t move until these things are maxed’. If you’re bored of working on traits, do some Halloween, do some fractals, do some WvW. It’s not like there’s a shortage of stuff to do in game (or out of it and trust me, there is an outside world!).

World completion the first time? Sure you can call it “play the game” to get the experience. Forcing it to apply to all the alts you have in order to unlock elite spec? Yes, that’s forcing us to “grind” instead of “enjoy” the game.

the nerfs had no effect on the ele, still the most broken spec in the game (of all time only behind pre-patch ele ). No meaningfull change – miniature nerf on drake combined with buff to RoF – equal or higher burn dmg now then pre-patch, about 3 stacks might lost (still keeps up 20), slightly less blind. still immortal, still too much dmg, still ridicoulusly easy to disengage-heal-reengage in 5s, still supreme mobility, teamsupport, condi cleanse, downstate. None of the teams running 2-3 eles (all teams basicly) actually dropped them because there is no reason. Same ole uncounterable godlike ele.

Better luck next patch when ever that may be

For those who enjoy their classes even when you could not 1v4 in SPvP…

For those who keep going despite the general hated for the class due to imbalancing issues and become nothing more then a balanced class with good damage

Rest is fairly accurate.

Ele hasn’t always been the meta. We have fallen in and out from one balance patch to another. There were periods where we were barely able to compete even as bunker builds.

These last few months after specialization change, the one Ar/Water/X cantrip build got out of hand, and that’s getting its deserved nerf. I agree that people who main this build is complaining too much, but at the same time, it’s not like ele as a whole has always been doing what you claim it does.

You’re wrong saying that people complain about the nerfs ( save ice bow nerf thread maybe), you can clearly see that are still people who want several more nerfs on ele, like they want ele to become a walking free loot bag

And why not? Other classes have endure being the “free loot bag” at least once or more, why shouldn’t ele be exempted from that experience?

The nerf on Vigor is huge.
Blinding Ashes nerf is acceptable.
Ring of Fire only does 1 burning stack for 2s now, a huge nerf from 3 stacks for 5s.
Burning Fire nerf is huge.

Haters still gonna hate though.

of course, it took weeks to nerf Mesmers, and months to nerf Elementalists, and they are still viable. Anet need to nerf d/d Ele more.

Burning does not need a nerf… Specific professions need to have their access to it reduced and their durations adjusted. Otherwise professions like Necromancer will get yet another undeserved nerf by having their very limited access to burning become even more irrelevant.

Just because Guards, Ele’s and Engi’s can stack 8732482974293 burns doesn’t mean every other profession should suffer a nerf for something they can’t even do.

Please start thinking beyond “this is OP it needs nerf” before making complaints.

you’re talking about ANet that did a sweeping nerf of fire/air sigils that affected all classes due to laziness, do you really expect anything different? Frankly, I hope the burn nerfs come soon and hit hard, anything that will affect ele is good thing imo.

At this point I’d say we’re just wasting our breath. People won’t be happy until mesmers is nerfed back to at least pre-patch standings, while at the same time they want to keep all the changes their class got.

I am sure most engineers would be happy if this would be the case, BUT:
Currently “Rifled Barrels” only affects rifle range. It used to also affect elixir gun, harpoon gun and pistol, but no more. In fact there is NO way currently to increase the range for the 3 mentioned weapons/kits. And the reduced range hurts my game play a lot as I was always speccing that trait before.
Coated bullets didn’t happen and isn’t available anymore.
Forceful explosions is probably bugged. It shows 240 radius in tooltip, but the actual radius for bombs is 180 range. Has been like that since Jun 23
Grenade kit got a big nerf: 1500 -> 900 range. Poison grenade used to make a poison field, but does that no longer. Grenades used to be good for hybrid damage and celestial, but are now more power oriented, due general changes to conditions, condition duration from explosives line is gone, incendiary powder moved to different trait line, vulnerability lasting shorter time etc. So big part of damage and range is gone.

Reality:
engineers got 0.5 traits made into baseline. Less than any other profession!

I agree that mesmers got too much in the Jun 23 patch, the biggest offenders being massive boost to PU, confounding suggestions from 50% chance of stun to 100% <— a GM trait made adept and buffed at same time (= insanity!)

People my not agree with me, but I play as a condi PU, and Engineers never give me problems. I simply melt them with Confusion and torment, then hide in stealth. It’s to much fun.

Something need to be done to pu condi.. They should nerf things like PU rather than mirror blade. Its just not fun that they can passively kill people.

Not everyone play the same build, the MB nerf wasnt necessary when Anet stealth nerfed the fire and air sigils. Maybe GS is not part of every Mesmer player’s weapon set, but this community doesn’t needed to be so fragmented as if a nerf didnt impact your build or style, then “it’s ok”. The problem is Anet has demonstrated time and time again they cant get balance right, and playing a class that has always been the receiving end of “over nerf” is just frustrating.

Exactly, hard counters shouldn’t exist. It’s just not skill based nor fun. The rock/paper/scissor balance isn’t even good for monkeys.

Before June 23rd patch, thief was a hard counter to all types of Mesmer builds. Anet let it happen, so why not now?

basically all shoutbows and celestial engis have switched to eles so it’s only logical that you have that many now because what else should they play if they want to keep the same role.

and why have they switched? because their builds have been trashed instead of keeping them alive and viable and the same will happen if they trash ele. maybe it’s gonna be 2 necros next or whatever is good enough.

That’s fine with me, I rather see change than a class that is the king of PvP for long. I’d love to see ele out of meta for once.

‘My’ BoonShare mesmer build! It’s reallly fricking strong (like most mesm builds post patch) and I really enjoy playing it. It has Permanent protection, regen, fury, 6+ might and vigor and a lot of access to retaliation, aegis and swiftness
You can then share these boons with your signet of inspiration or when you cast a phantasm! This build is great for tPvP or small group roaming, your teammates will luv you :p

typical ANet, soon enough Mesmers will be back to where they were pre-patch.

Anet just doesn’t want Mesmers to be a strong class, they just have to make things harder for Mesmers.

After watching some of the videos released prior to the 2015-06-23 patch, whenever mesmer is brought up, I get this feeling that Robert Gee is itching to nerf mesmer stuff. It might just be a coincidence, or a temperament thing, but he’s usually the first to speak up about “changing numbers” that are “too high,” or to add a disclaimer on a teased-at future mesmer change that sounds like it might make mesmers less puny. I’m sure he isn’t plotting, but it just sounds that way.

I’m not saying mesmer is currently weak, or that this one particular person is secretly plotting to nerf mesmers into the ground. But I do get the feeling that some people at ANet (and in the playerbase) just don’t like mesmers, because they’re mesmers. (I especially get that feeling when I’m talking to a necro or a thief. Again, it’s a feeling, usually heightened by signs in conversation—but I won’t claim to have some kind of kitten statistics on player opinion by class.)

It’s just troubling to accept the Anet’s nerfs to Mesmers (to some extend on other classes as well) as incompetence, because clearly they have the people (like Robert Gee) and other devs that created this game we all like to play. But the pattern of nerfing traits and skills that are not the main issues raised by both PvE and PvP community really baffle me to no end. The only reason would be Anet WANT certain classes to be played certain way, they can say loud and clear about supporting “build diversity” for all classes, but clearly that’s not the case here. At least we know for sure the love Ele, you cant go wrong playing that class as a main. Too bad I just cant get it right (same goes with Engie).

it’s a nerf to power-based builds/professions that never needed to happen. people are quick to applaud this as they see it as a nerf to mesmer but it affects guardian, thief, ranger, and engineer in ways that are completely unnecessary.

if you can honestly say there is any justification in nerfing any of those profession’s damage output you have no idea what you’re talking about.

The justification is that it was unavoidable damage with no counter-play. If the damage of a profession is too weak with these changes, then buff that profession in a way that there’s still counter-play.

The thing is that, all the classes which used it in PvP were not OP with it. Now some of their burst is lacking.

“Hey that has no counterplay nerf it!” nobody who used it was op though…

“Nerf it anyway!”

Other point is, damage across the board is too high and this is the #1 best way to globally nerf glass dps as most glass dps uses it and it is passive/not fun AND it doesn’t affect pve builds. More damage coming from the source is great.

However, yes, there are other fish to fry. Why they didn’t touch PU, confounding suggestions or Ele yet is beyond me, but regardless, this still was something that needed to be done for a long time.

its fine to nerf damage across all classes, but dont single out Mesmer’s burst (mirror blade) in addition to the stealth nerf to the fire and air sigils. D/D Ele needs a big nerf.

I wish I read all those above..comments but tl;dr In my opinion I dont understand..Why give us a trait before that gave us additional bounces..then make it baseline…then remove it. My damage has suffered a bit, But I can still manage.

It might be our own fault. It you use reverse logic, Anet can’t favor players on the forums so our suggestions are almost examples of changes that won’t happen.

It is our fault. Many of our own are calling for various tweaks and nerfs after the June 23rd patch, and now we again are the only class that received the most “bug fixes” and nerfs.

Interestingly havent seen much of the community leaders on here commenting about the MB nerf, I guess they dont use the weapon or build that benefits from it.

Why do we have to go back to pre patch days and the rest stay post patch? How about fix or correct the real problem, damage across the boards.

Because we were doing even more damage than a simple stat increase. Now, I have absolutely 0 intention of working out who’s doing more damage on their meta builds across all classes because quite frankly it was annoying enough to do it with Mesmer.

Needless to say if mirror blade is the only thing damage wise we get reduced then you should be thankful and we will generally be in a good place.

However the damage formulae are on the wiki, please work out how much various classes were doing pre patch, then account for stat changes and work it out again.

Doesn’t mean I agree with staff trait nerf, harmonious mantras (though I might do the math on that) or the return to clunky mantras and MtD. However on mirror blade again, if this is their way of toning down our burst and that’s it, we’re in a good spot after.

I hate to break it to you, I doubt this is the end of Mesmer nerfs. PU is probably next and god knows what else (CS maybe?). Funny how the most OP class in D/D Ele got no nerfs.

Someone wiz in your cheerios this morning? So anything that does damage that is available to everyone potentially that gets nerfed is an indirect buff to D/D eles? This is why these forums are useless.

Ele don’t use fire+air on weapon sets, but thieves and other bursty classes do, and those extra damage procs is what helps bring down a cele ele… So yes, Indirect buff.

The thinking is a little outside the box but you can see some logic to it.

yep, now the nerfs to the burst classes need to be reverted, this is bullkitten. We are heading back to the previous meta that allow classes to have high survival + sustain again, not fun.

It was very much a needed nerf. They had waay too much burst for a single combo.

Maybe, but now with the Air/Fire sigil nerf (assuming it’s intended), the mirror blade nerf needs reverted.

agreed, especially when other classes didnt receive much nerfs, D/D ele still reigns supreme, when it clearly needs a big nerf.

No, because mesmers were ridiculously buffed in the last patch. So..

Yet Ele remains the reigning PvP class, and received no nerfs.

Since June 23 patch, how many nerfs have Mesmers received? I think more so than other classes.

Let start by setting something straight. Do not compare old Mirror Blade to the current Mirror Blade without giving consideration to power creep/amulet changes/stats changes/etc.

IF AMULET POWER CREEP IS THE kittenING PROBLEM THEN WHY DIDN’T THEY FIX THE kittenING AMULET POWER CREEP?????

I am with you on this, all valid points in your post.

Not everyone runs the meta build, I currently run a variant of the boonshare build using GS / Staff, and this nerf hurts.

Take a dartsboard, hang it on the wall in Anet’s office and occasionally throw a dart at it to determine what class and skill to change. You get the same rediculous result you have now.
Players are asking for some needed changes to certain traits and skills, and instead they do something completely different and baffling (to say the least) which begs me to question if they even played their own game.

Over half the guild i’m in doesn’t even come online anymore and even then they just do a dialy and move to another game, hoping (against better judgement) that some things will improve. So far, that ain’t happening.

Have you been on the forum since the June 23rd patch? Even with the buffs we got, there are Mesmers on here calling for nerfs. I’ve pointed out many times that we need to stop being a self defeating community when Anet’s track record to properly balance classes is so bad, but yet people pushed on. Now we are getting nerfs that are not necessary, and imagine the nerfs that these Mesmers called for actually go through later? This class would be back to how it was pre-patch.

Lol, shelfing mesmer that quick? If you think those small dmg nerfs were the thing carrying you, you’re better off shelfing it anyway.

Maybe it’s more about the trust in ANet that actually tweak the stuff that are necessary, instead of the ones pointed out in this thread? Did you forget the MtD and Chaotic Dampening nerfs too?

Yes you definitely can. Seems you just didn’t know how to build for that, you definitely can play that and the current mesmer meta build is a mix and match of it with mantras support and great survivability while still dealing great damage.

Why do other mmos want less nerfs or whatever you are trying to say… Because people want it all and none of the weaknesses. People that have become accustomed or really enjoying mesmer before the fotm were doing so out of appreciation of the intricacies and interesting plays mesmer can do. Being able to faceroll is not something we enjoy (most often) and so the mesmers want self nerfs because they wanna play skillfully. I say that but then you got all the PU death clones condi mesmers that just wanna spam more condis and be stronger

It’s pretty obvious to me. I want my class to be balanced. I want the other classes to be balanced. I wanna be able to make my our skillplay make a difference rather than build or gear.

you might have a point (along with other Mesmers calling for nerfs) if Anet actually listened and nerf PU, but they didnt… Same as the nerfs to MtD and Chaotic Dampening. Knowing the unfair and unpredictability of Anet and you people still call for nerfs is just self defeating, just like this thread here:

The balance patch was actually good this time. They did manage to shave off some of the most complained aspects of the game. However, there is still more to work on. Looking forward to the next patch and hopefully they would make more build diversities for engineers as for now its being shutdown heavily by the top meta classes.

When the reigning pvp class Ele gets no nerfed and this is a good patch? ANet needs look at the insane might stacking, burning and diamond skin balance.

well, ive been using rampage in spvp for a long time now. but only use it to chain cc autoattack around downed foes on points, or when theres 3-4 enemies at a point. but let me tell u, rampage isnt as op as u might think. cause it can be countered, not like mesmer stun bursts that requires no brain and cant be countered. ive been seeig alot of thouse in pvp nowadays, so to rampage to get nerfed that no brain burst gotta go too.

this nerf wont change anything. at least for me

Mesmer’s burst has been nerfed, mirror blade has one less bounce now.
