Fractals pretty much halved the amount of people who wvw in tier 1 USA bracket now. So yes, fractals have ruined the game.

you can add tier 2 as well, there are more people on SoR doing FOTM than doing WvW…

So let’s see, people say this game is bleeding players like crazy and giving them instant legendaries in the form of a quest chain that gives you the precursor AND all the mats will save the game. For how long? If they do this and the quest chain takes 20 hours to finish, that buys them 20 hours before people run out of stuff to do again and then cry more about nothing to do and quit. On the other hand, if they make the quest chain take 200 hours, people will cry it’s taking too long and they want instant gratification. Only thing i’ve really noticed is that the community seems to like to whine about legendaries. Suck it up and enjoy the ride to the legendary. And no i dont have mine yet but im having fun getting the mats aka doing dailies, doing dragons, doing dungeons, running around harvesting etc. The whole deal should be fun, not just the end of it. In the end, the precursor is only a very small part to it. Clovers, T6 mats and the 100 Icy runes alone are prolly close to double the cost of the precursor.

well said. I am also slowly working on mine, running AC for tokens and doing dailies and WvW for Karma etc. I dont see these activities as a grind, I see them as working towards a goal. The way I see it, once Anet give in once, these people will keep doing til they have everything they wanted for doing less in game.

11/30 - BG vs SoR vs IoJ - Version 2.0

I have yet to understand why we always focus on IOJ in EB instead of BG. Blackgate has everything max upgraded with full supplies. Yet we try and take over SM while Yaks pour into SM from there side. Also as long as they have Klovan, if we do take SM, they easily get it back from the trebs there.
But no one listens to me. Then we wonder why IOJ hits us instead of BG. And last night they left us alone for the most part and were harassing BG taking Wildrun from them and the supply camp near it.

SoR has a serious lack of coverage in everything outside of NA prime time. Is there any recruitment effort from top SoR guilds to fill those void?

BTW if you want to stop groups from skipping trash mobs/encounters, the answer is dirt simple: all mobs (not just the lieuts) should have a noticeably high chance to drop yellow items (level 70+) and to drop 5 dungeon tokens. Ectos and tokens—lots of them—are the only incentive that will work 100% across the board. If each member of te group has a chance to score on average 5 yellow weapons to salvage (or sell) and 20-30 extra dungeon tokens just by killing everything in sight, well, then and only then will you have groups actually choosing to kill everything in sight and not trying to clear their 60 guaranteed tokens and 26 silver as fast as possible so they can move on to the next exp path.

How to suvive in dungeons

hi all,

I’ve been mostly WvW since the game release but given ANet’s direction on future content, I feel the need to start doing some dungeons. Like the OP, I’ve had problems in AC exp mode and wonder if it’s just lack of experience or I need some gear change. Currently I have crafted exotic berserker set and jewelry item. Should I create a different set for dungeon that focus on vitality, toughness and power? Would that give me more survivability? I am mostly S/D with SB, and build is 25/30/0/15/0.

I’ll not go into the personal vendetta above, I just wanted to comment on Lucas’ idea:

I’d really prefer a set path for obtaining a legendary over the RNG. random drops should help you cut the path short, even skipping large parts of it (i.e. if you get a precursor), but the path should work without any luck (some people just don’t have it).
right now it’s pretty much a path, only it’s just grind: grind there for several days/weeks, then move on and grind in another area to get your next items on the list. it’s highly random, mostly grind and the only way to spice it up is by grinding in another area and using the money to buy stuff from the tp. your you can (ab)use the tp to make money – at least that’s challenging and takes some intelligence so I’m not entirely against it, even if I don’t like to do it.

If there was a path with elements like:

  • escort 50 patrols (there are multiple quests like this all over the world)
  • save a 100 villages from destruction
  • fight the secret champion mob in the thaumanova reactor (the key would have to be obtainable without luck ofc)
  • master dungeon X
  • find 20 pages of book Y in the world (fixed location, easy to read up but still fun for people who like scavenger hunts)
  • climb the highest mountain
  • gather kelp from the deepest abyss

etc it would help get players into all maps, be a real challenge instead of pure grind and most importantly, it would be fun! you could measure your progress and feel like you accomplished something. grinding is a very unsatisfactory way of spending your free time.

I’m all for allowing grind to be a way for getting a legendary, just not the only way. players want alternative ways of accomplishing something. In a highly customizable game (builds, classes, looks etc) there should also be alternative styles of gameplay..

What you want is a “welfare legendary” system, one that guarantees a precursor or a complete legendary (lol?). Sure, I think Anet sure please people like you, but these legendaries should be less flashy than the current ones. In fact, they should look boring but just have a purple text in the item description Why should the current legendary owners go through what they did to get it and see bunch of people just wait in line with some quests following step by step guide to get one so easily?

I personally find ele easier than a mesmer :P so if that’s your criteria I wouldn’t pick an ele! Dagger/dagger is an absolute blast though, it’s very active and very strong, I guess it requires a fair bit of skill but once you have the basic cycles down its as easy as any class. Except when you go under water.. trying to use 20 skills that you rarely get to use can be tricky and will really take some getitng used to to combine and remember each time.

Im leveling up an ele alt, but mostly using staff. I want to switch to D/D, would you mind sharing some of the basic cycle combos? I know all fights could change in a heartbeat and might require change of routine on the fly, but I hope learning from the basic cycle would give me something to build on and start to tailor other skills once I get used to them.

Im starting a elementalist alt, but I am mostly staff while leveling(only level 12 atm). I do have a question for D/D ele in WvW, when sieging a tower or SM castle, what can the D/D offer in those situations? from what I can tell going D/D really have no range spell, correct?

Yeah, when besieging, switch to your staff. As a D/D ele, all you can really do is heal allies with Water 2 and 5 or pop Fire 4 + Earth 4 and 5 to grant AoE Might. If you’re running an Auramancer build, I guess you could pop Air 3 and Water 4 to grant mass Auras, but that’s still a largely inefficient use of your time.

The boon strip is a vital roll of FS. What you suggested is just a hackneyed Whirling Axe which we already get from warrior, with an OP evade to boot.

FS is fine as is, just fix the pathing or employ a better methodology to the strikes.

Whirling Axe channel is 3¼ second long channel.

This channel would be ¾ of a second, only a ¾ evade, it would not be a 3¼ second evade like the steal axe was, sorry, it would have the same evasion as death blossom/pistol whip.

Please think before you speak.

Bountiful Theft is really all the boon stripping/stealing we need.

Whirling Axes is also using two axes, not a sword and a dagger, Whirling Axes also has a 1200 range while this has a 450 range, and does not have evasion, not even the stolen version.

Whenever you make a thread like this, it seems that you only get critics, because the people who think its a good idea usually don’t post.

To be honest, thieves don’t have many AOE abilities, and this is really exactly what we need for S/D, an AOE that hits many targets and makes people afraid of closing to us in melee, Death Blossom does it for condition damage, but S/D should be for direct damage.

We need different types of thieves, not just stealth thieves who rely on CnD for Direct Damage, but whenever we suggest an idea thats not the norm, the same trolls who don’t want us stealthing all the time don’t want us to have any non-stealth direct damage either, its SILLY.

ok, I took the time to “think,” and no, I dont want your proposed change, I just want to the current FS and ANet to fix the pathing/positioning issue.

Hi. I just did an entire Orr quest (the Steel Tide) and killed undead for what seemed to be five minutes straight and not one of them dropped anything, not even grey trash. Am I bugged or something? What a waste of time! Furthermore, they didn’t even register as kills that gave me +stacks on my +Luck per Kill item. What gives?

It’s like the legendary precursor whiners, just they are either unlucky, lazy, or rather WvW than work on any of the steps to get materials for legendary, they expect to have things “easier” for them.

It’s like people in real life, if you cant commit to save some money for few years to make a down payment for a house, you deserve to live in a tiny apartment. Just because you cant work for w/e reason, it doesn’t mean the government or anyone else should just donate a house for you to live in. Sure, there are welfare programs, but they certainly dont pay out a monthly check like a 6 figure job earner income right?

Maybe enough whining Anet will implement a welfare loot system in game, but until then, these whiners will need to work for what they want instead of being handed to them.

I bet a lot of people who use those don’t even realize they aren’t the best runes for their class.

There are so many good choices out there. These are just an option that many go for because it’s simple. Big damage sometimes doesn’t win the day.

Also, becauce Scholar is craftable, the supply is controlled by players somewhat and price is correlated to the price of lodestones.

I would love it if they made lodestones a little more equal. The good items are lumped on a the same lodestones, and you get Pile of Putrid Essence, which just makes cheap junk.

like you mentioned, Runes of Scholar is craftable by players and I am fine with the price, it’s all about supply and demand. If the sellers took the time to gather materials to make them, why shouldn’t they make a profit?

I dont understand all these complains about price that’s driven by players’ demands, if you are too lazy to do it yourself, you should pay the market value for the items you need.

Color me deranged, but something is fishy about loot. I got an exotic from the the temple of Grenth event. Not from the chest or the champion, but from a trash mob. I filled my bags with blues and greens, got lots of collectibles and four rares I salvaged into ectos. Meanwhile a friend of mine, running in my group and with full magic find gear like I, got hardly anything at all. He never gets anything actually. Its not diminishing returns since our play time and patterns are almost identical. Why is he cursed?

I’m also disappointed that trash mobs are more profitable than taking the time to down stronger foes, like champions. The chests should be guaranteed to drop rares or better, and T6 crafting matts. Make them loot-able daily if need be (like the Halloween chests were after the patch). Because right now, any event that spawns hordes of mobs is worth doing, but the final bosses aren’t. (unless your compulsive obsessive hoping to win the lottery with a precursor in a chest.. good luck with that).

I am in the same boat. Full MF set (armor + weapons + jewelry) with food buff I have not gotten much compared to before the Nov 15 path. I got few rares, and mostly white or blue items. Champs in Cursed Shores have dropped mostly nothing and it’s really not worth trying to kill them.

Anet needs to come clean and admit what has been changed, ignoring this and mother threads about this topic is wrong on their part.

after finally assembled a full Magic Find set + weapons + food buffs, the usual farming spot that I tried the past 5 days yielded nothing significant. On average I would spend minimum of 1 hours in certain areas, mostly 2. The drop rate issue needs some serious attention. Anet cant just force people into FOTM, and yet they are doing hotfixes that nerf some of the farming methods in the new dungeons as well. If the end result is they want people to buy gems and convert to gold, just come out and say it instead of doing these sneaky farming nerfs behind the scene.

I totally agree they should be exotic, I’m currently saving up for them but 119g for good looking rare gear ? considering you can buy a full exotic set on TP for less than 20g dosen’t really make sense, unless ANet consider the looks of cultural gear to be worth 100g. But still, i’m a sucker for the human t3 heavy set !

I’m kinda saddened that we are forced to just buy cultural armour. They didn’t add some cool quest line or a story to get them. I really feel that many of these end game contents are just grinds for gold because developers ran out of time or got lazy. Really wish cultural and legendary skins were a sort of adventure and enjoyable experience to add onto our list of things to do.

they need to make a profit, I certainly dont blame them for making it that you have get other exotic armor pieces and transmute stones to get the result YOU want, not everything in game or in real life should be had for free, ya know?

My feedback on Legendary crafting

Here is what I think would be a good alternative:

Precursor: get one precursor for completing each explorer mode path for each dungeon. Make it so this can be done once per character.

Monthly achievement: get to pick a gift that can be used towards a legendary (twilight would take 8 months or so for example). The farming route can be an alternative but not required.

Instead of you making it in the Mystic Forge, add some grandmaster weaponsmith, a mystical like character perhaps a dwarf or some ethereal being, anyways… sending you on an epic quest line similar to the story series, perhaps can only be started once your personal story is completed.

A guaranteed precursor for explorer mode for dungeons that already have walk-through guides all over the internet? THis is just smells like “welfare epic” system of WoW. I like the fact that there’s a bit of luck involved in getting precursor, if you are lucky, u get it from an events or chest drop, if not, you grind and save gold and you buy yourself one that’s determined by the market demand.

Why would you ever cater a MMO to a “niche” market. They are in it to make a lot of money. Rehashing GW1 was not going to make them that money.

wrong, niche market CAN make money if you are different than the other run-of-the-mill games, if people wanted dungeon and gear grinds, there are plenty out there (RIFT, WOW, etc) besides GW2. Anet made a wrong choice, plain and simple.

Anet definitely has made changes to the world drops probability and forcing players into the buggy and failed implementation they called FOTM.

I Enjoy Guildwars 2 a lot, I am on record as saying Iw ould never play an MMO ever after exp[eriencing the nosebleed which is WOW for liek 2 months.

I work full time adn have a family and even so manage to play at elast long enough to achieve dialy and monthly and do other stuff.

But lately I ahve stopped enjoying guildwars as I feel liek I am making zero progress on my legendary weapon, as th prices of the precursor continue to soar. I look back and wish I ahd spent 50$ on gold when they were 20g each. I know that theya re planning on bringin in a “scavenger hunt” for these weapons, but they also said they would improve the drop rate which if they have it hasn’t had a lasting affect ont he market with prices clmbing right back up out of reach to 300+ gold for dawna nd dusk.

This makes RNG king, and some people are going to be massively ahead (gold wise) just by gettign a lucky forge drop or a lucky drop from a chest or from Orr. This really annoys me as I play every day for at leat an hour and play the markets for 30min to an hour a day addiontally (while simultaneously feeding a 2 yr old) and I am up to 100g, the idea that someone can earn 3 X more than this in a single drop is preposterous and has a sense of unfairness about it.

While I appreciate the epic achievment of a legendary, I am pretty dissapointed about the current aquisition of the precursor weapon.

I am not saying the game isn’t good, or that the legendary’s are too ahrd, it just seems to me that it should be obtainable for people who play daily,a dn the RNG should be removed. There is nothing legendary about camping the BLTP, or running ORR for 8 hours a day. PLease bring fortht the proposed changes.

sorry to hear that, but I know if you make enough noise, a “welfare” legendary system will happen soon in the future. Every MMORPG companies always give into the whiners, just remember that. Your day of getting a legendary will come.

Gaining precursor with new 'treasure hunt'

I’ve always found this precursor business funny. You would imagine from a lore perspective, that the precursor would be one of the first ingredients we’d get, so we can at least use.

Gregorius: This sword is impressive. I shall name it Dawn because it will herald a new light for Tyria!

Guildmate: Awesome sword, gonna use it now?

Gregorius: Noooooooo….. I’m going to reforge it!

I’m glad they’re putting in a scavenger hunt because awesome weapons should be obtain by awesome means. (Not to say getting it as a random gift from a Djinn isn’t awesome, it’s just getting it is the problem).

because making it a sure way of getting a legendary will truly reflects “legendary” status. To me it’s more like “welfare” epic for everyone. What better time to do it during Xmas, eh?

so you would be perfectly fine IF Anet make them all difficult and cost about the same amount of gold? This just sounds like another “my legendary components are more expensive, so I will want to screw those with cheaper and easier component” thread.

I support this idea. Although my concern right now is not for the new dungeons, I find it increasing hard to find people to do old dungeons, and story mode requirement in order to do explore mode doesn’t make much sense any more.

You can join a Explorable mode dungeon if someone else in the team as unlocked it as far as I know.

really? Can anyone else confirm this? I was under the impression that you have to do story mode in order to do explorable mode…

I’ve been WvW all this time, and just decided to try out the dungeons better skins and tokens, so I am going by info that I either googled or old posts.

hi,

now with the release of the ascended gear and the FOTM dungeon, it’s getting harder and harder for new players to find people to do story mode in order to do exp mode for the old dungeons.

Please either remove the story mode requirement, or change it to have more incentives for the players that have done so to do it again, maybe drop tokens for story mode too?

Because you can’t appease both sides. One wants to go west the other east. Anet says let’s go north instead. the end result neither gets what they want. That’s what will happen if you try and keep both horizontal and vertical player groups. They will be left with the indifferent people that don’t care.

I beg to differ, it seems the PvE crowd got exactly what they wanted, and Anet showed it’s true color on which side they want to cater to.
