Mind Smack – Mesmer
good for you, I am about to do the same, but to a reaper alt.
“Good job, Anet” Is it possible for these words to exist in a sentence especially concerning pvp balance?
funny how OP made this thread before the real season begins. Only time will tell and he jumped the gun on “Good job, ANet” regarding sPvP balance.
ANd he mains a REAPER, LOL.
good luck, sorry to burst your bubble, but Anet doesnt really care about Mesmers. Dont be encouraged by the “Gaile is looking into our situation!” thread, she has yet to offer any follow up, and most likely just sweep our concerns under the rug.
For the next 3 months we will just be trash tier. Either play a different alt, or catch up on your other games. It’s better for your health, trust me.
I wasn’t really thinking it through when I started making HOPE and how little of the visual pizzaz I would be getting from the awesome “bullets” that HOPE fires, since our Pistol Phantasms use their own gun with their own SFX :-(
It would be wonderful if ArenaNet would let our Phantasms use the Legendaires that we have worked so hard to obtain.
Sorry, but the Mesmer class got bigger problems than what you stated… Seriously.
NA T1 servers are alive and growing. If you want fun and action come on down!
I think only for BG and YB, JQ WvW has been pathetic for weeks. I thought last week was bad, but this week? Oh boy…
I honestly don’t get how the balance changes work. They change this OP thing then make another thing OP or not touch what’s already OP before. What.
Can’t they get testers that actually play the game? Maybe ESL players or them MLG pros to test the changes before releasing them publicly. If people think it could give the “pros” advantages for future engagements then just stream the testing gameplay on twitch or something so everyone knows what’s up and also give their own opinions. I mean, I would happily do it for free. FREE ANET, FREE. This way actual players get to really contribute instead of moaning day and night here.
Well?
ESL pros dont test balance, in fact they dictate and heavily influence on balance patches. ANet cater to those people mostly, you lucky if you play one of the classes that are loved by those pros (thief/engi), and sucks if your classes are not those (Mesmer).
After today’s patch notes it seems like she really came through for us…..
well, actually “being helpful” and “appear to be helpful” are two different things. At least I did get my hopes up. Going through my backlog of steam games and PS4 are keeping me busy, at least I am having fun instead of feeling frustrated.
hi, few noob questions:
– is travel speed an issue for you guys in WvW? Interesting builds, but I always play classes that has some sort of speed buff, reapers just seem slow
- can these builds work with viper set?
Anet’s failed experiment is not the Dragonhunter, it’s the Chronomancer.
(edited by rchu.8945)
Please tell me it’s not as bleak as it looks. ._.
unfortunately it is.
My mesmer is parked LA, mostly operate just as extra bank spaces.
I highly suggest explore another profession.
I’ve been having some fun playing druid or reaper, but still not the same as playing my Mesmer.
Making the raids easier would just make a different group of people complain, since there’s a large amount of people already that comfortably clear the raid bosses with 2-3 minutes left on the enrage timer.
Raid are meant to be hard content, only completed by organised groups.
Why do you think there is no raid LFG?
woah, so majority of the GW2 player base are clearing raids? That’s news to me.
I can only see one complication with this and it is the waiting times for those players with the most popular classes (if any),
good luck trying make the flavor of the month (over buffed OP) classes wait longer? I am sure thieves and reapers will make a new thread to cry and moan about it.
I actually think Mesmer/Chrono is pretty well balanced right now. There’s well defined weaknesses and strengths, plus there’s a unique buff that allows us to interact with groups outside of healing or dps. The only major buff that I think needs to occur is CD reductions as compensation for the alacrity nerf when it’s so blatantly obvious that the Chrono CDs were balanced around the old alacrity.
The problem is, the only other class that is also quite balanced right now is Warrior/Berserker. Necro/Reaper and Thief/Daredevil were relatively well balanced, until the last balance patch introduced an awful amount of power creep into these two classes as well. I think Anet will actually continue to buff Daredevil (in the wrong way) in the next ‘balance’ patch <sigh>
lol, sorry I disagree that both War and Mes are “well balanced”, not viable is the better way to describe them.
This list is riddled with inaccuracies
sure, but at least he got it right that Mesmer is in the kitten tier.
I dont think necros stack very well tbh. Grab a DH or two for the another team and you’re set as long as you don’t grab a war, ele or mesmer.
fixed.
I personally don’t have high hopes if a change is going to come or if one is at all. Shatter is in a bad place, but it was never “meta”. Before HoT shatter wasn’t meta then compared to d/d cele ele, d/p thief, soldier/cele engi, burn guard, etc. I just want shatter to be in the place where it was in the meta before HoT.
Is that after the mirror blade nerf? I really think we need shatter to be better than that state.
Try equip your char with some gear first. Armor, you know. Trinkets.
As a typical thief would say,
" ya but if I take defensive stats then my dmg is garbage and I might aswell just reroll (insert any class other than thief that can do 12k dmg in 5sec)"And for that learn how to use skills comment, ya cause that dmg rotation of 11111111111111111 must be really taxing on that initiative pool designed to be used for both offensive and defensive skills.
I know right, coming from thief is jut pure comedy.
This is a good summary that I’m glad she responded to
I am not going to lie, this gave me a glimmer of hope, but given Anet’s track record when it comes to Mesmers, I will believe it when it happens. Until then, I am having some fun on druid.
This is a great change.
One friendly player should not be able to negate the damage of another friendly player through bad (or good) timing.
For the players who are concerned about WvW, all I have to say is there are better ways to accomplish what you’re looking for rather than a bad solution that inadvertently does the job.
I completely agree. Fact of the matter is it’d come down to nerfing the coefficient by like 50%, though, which obviously people would get very upset about.
if they choose to go with that direction, Anet will need to revert quite a bit of the nerfs Rev received from the 1/26 patch.
no no no no no no no no no no no
if you build a house blindly from beginning to end and nobody wants to live in it because the kitchen is outside, the bathroom is in the basement, and the bedroom is in the front entryway…do you just hire an interior decorator?
if there is a huge pile of poop on the ground, will smoothing out the edges make it not poop?
This.
if no more balance patches take place
nos and toker were winning on thief and necro against aids double mes/rev. going to be funny now. engi will be the best bruiser and either phantaram/wakkey will most likely pick up druid
rip another season
aids double mes/rev? New cancer would be thief / necro.
LOL PvE
/15
Nothing funny tho, Anet buffed thieves to be viable to be in PvE Raid, and the damage boost will have major impact in sPvP. Makes perfect sense right?
I ran out of characters, so my Necro opinion goes here. Holy spam, I’m sorry. Necro’s problem isn’t simple to pinpoint- Necro’s theme is corruption. Naturally these buffs make sense. The problem is conditions are far too strong. Also, Necro has very few hard hitting big tell abilities. Especially condi. A necro fighting anyone else of the same caliber will never naturally lose a 1v1, but this is the trade for mobility. Which it has. Its hard to find something to nerf on Necro without destroying its theme. Unfortunately. I think it and ele need a true rework from the ground up. And I think Thief (now that they are done trying to call it a speedy utility tool) shows how easy that is. Just accept and aspect of your design, do that. Ele is meant to be the class that builds and builds and builds, Necro is the one that tears and tears and tears. Ele needs to be the boon god, Necro the condi god.
Hope I helped someone learn. Yay two walls of text. My fingers hurt.
Your defense for necro is quite biased consider your comments on your replies to Mesmer nerf threads. I can argue Chrono’s theme is about alacarity, but it’s ok for Anet to totally destroy that elite spec?
You haven’t met a good Thief yet. I saw in my list multiple good Thieves playing on their alts. Their reasoning is to avoid confirming the obvious buff and get nerfed before the season starts.
in the hands of good thieves, the changes will be very impactful once real season starts.
They can hide for now but the nerfs WILL be coming. Just like how the community cry and moan about bunker meta, this will be even bigger.
can this build be effective with LB + staff?
There really isn’t much sympathy for eles, or mesmers at this point coming from a necro player. I’ve clocked in roughly over 2k hours on my necro and we have been just kind of pushed around and never really had a time to shine in Spvp. I’m sure in due time there will be more adjustments to be made, but until you’ve played necro for as long as I have you’d never understand the struggle.
Right back at you, buddy.
When Necro gets nerfed I will be dancing over your grave.

“I’ve played around a little with mesmer post patch. People spam whisper me in game for my thoughts so here they are:
These are some of the laziest nerfs I’ve seen since the time when arenanet nerfed quickness by half. How is this a hard concept to grasp? If you completely halve the effectiveness of a certain thing you need to look at the skills tied to this and balance them around the current value.
Well of alacrity was a high cd utility slot skill for the extremely powerful alacrity tradeoff. It was 100% worth the util slot and could be argued to be too strong.
The entire chrono line was balanced around alacrity and was only a problem in pve and in tanky mesmer builds. Alacrity by itself was never overpowered, the wells gaining alacrity to the point they did were.
So what about shatter gives alacrity? What about the trait that makes alacrity last 50% longer? What about all wells that ends well?
You balance the entire chrono line with multiple traits ALL around your new little mechanic and then you kittenING halve it.
The obvious result? Every single skill tied to alacrity, from the well to the traits boosting your duration on alacrity all take a ridicilous hit in effectiveness.
To the dev who proposed and went through with this change: Would you design flow of time (3/4th of a sec alacrity on shatter) with the current state of alacrity? Would you design improved alacrity around this? When you first designed alacrity in the first place you balanced all these cds around the previous state of alacrity.
You would never, ever have nerfed Improved alacrity to 25% but that’s more or less what you did now.
The whole kittening point of chronomancer line is that you don’t get buffed stat wise but that it’s all in utility. Not a single trait boosts your damage, toughness or anything. The only stat modifier is the movement speed(utility) and the 30% crit on slow (trash).
I could type about this forever but here is the golden notes you only need to care about:
ESL added a rule that class stacking is not allowed anymore. I suppose this means that PU chrono could MAYBE see play. This build is literally inferior in every single aspect to DH/rev/thief and would never be picked if the latter two werent allowed to be stacked. The only reason I’d ever play this is because portal+moa can still be abused on it. Stealth, portal, moa. If moa misses you disengage and try again.
The shatter mesmer with duel is completely dead, don’t even bother trying to play it. The CDR hit on alacrity is so big that you actually gain more CDR playing illusion shatter mesmer over chrono which obviously isnt viable due to the powercreep of the game. I’d put that build on the same level as warrior.
Condition mesmer is shockingly not a thing despite the 5% scepter aa buff. Huh.
For those of you that don’t know about the quickness nerf mentioned above, a very long time ago quickness used to have double it’s current effectiveness. Warriors played a build completley built around this using the frenzy utility which made them take double damage but gave them quickness for a few seconds (Can you imagine that the game has powercreeped so hard that quickness for 6ish s while you take DOUBLE DAMAGE as punishment used to be a high tier utility?) and thieves used quickness in exchange for losing their endurance.
Anet nerfed the quickness without even touching those skills, wars still took double damage but now they had half the quickness effectiveness.
I guess it’s worse in this case since they butchered an entire traitline but yeh."
Not a buff they moved it from the Acro trait line
it’s more than what a lot of other classes are getting, so it’s a buff. Stop trying to downplay this, you know nerf is incoming.
We just saw a preview guys. Wait for the complete patch notes and see what will come.
OP was right, even if read incorrectly. RIP Mesmer.
Yeah, thief had slight advantage over mes for a while but it was never as bad as guards hardcountering thieves for years.
NOW that’s an understatement of the century? Have you played mesmer extensively in sPvP for the past 3 years?
Tbh, BnS is something new… so it’s shiny.
WvW has been so frustrating to play that it’s a challenge just logging in to the game to just get daily chests. I have lost all taste and faith in GW2…
Until they fix WvW ENTIRELY (and not the bull update they planned for tomorrow, then i wont be coming back anytime soon.)
BnS is not a replacement for WvW game mode, CU or CF is probably the better alternative.
Well, gliding is coming to tyria. All the cities, like Rata Sum, all the jump puzzles, the exciting areas to explore and so on.
But not WvW.
Not to mention we still don’t have autoloot. I know we are getting some sort of stuff later in the year, but at least give us the gliding, or the autoloot, or something to remind us that we are actually part of the game that is Guildwars2.
Frequent update everywhere, but not WvW.
Are you guys really that blind? WvW overhaul is timing right around when CU is being released.
If Anet is really timing the WvW overhaul beta (lol) 2016 release around CU, they are truly dumber than I think they are. You do things to try to keep your customers, not alienate them for an entire year and expect them to come back when there’s an upcoming game that is based around the game mode and RvR concept that Anet clearly dont give a kitten about.
I just see alot of potential in the new boarder lands
You are entitled to your own perception and opinion on the new BL maps, but dont try to flip this on rest of the community for “not trying”. If the maps are great there’s no need to “try” to have fun, because we all would’ve been enjoying for the past 3 months. The current state of the WvW indicates it’s not fun nor is what the community wanted.
P.S. I am also in T1, current on JQ. Even in T1 the maps are rarely populated.
So John Corpening is going to be on guild chat today talking about the upcoming WvW changes on the 26th of January. If you are reading the his John please talk even a little about the overhaul or where WvW is going and not just the small changes coming up this Tuesday.
Not going to happen, as always they will just tell us what we already know, not even going to waste my time watching.
this.
oi, reading all these thief posts is starting to make me regret ever pitying the profession.
What’s there to pity? One of the class that was part of the meta for the longest time, one time that they are meta they cried to make sure Anet puts them right back in it. Now with the damage buff incoming, they cry about stealth for other classes too… Pathetic.
Even with f2p accounts, Anet is losing players.
see, that’s the misconception, assuming you are implying that Anet went f2p with core GW2 to get more players to play the game. You are half right, because I think Anet’s ultimate intention is expose more players to the game on f2p, but when they see all the other goodies such as gliding, elites, etc, those players will buy HOT. THat’s the ultimate goal, sell more copies of HOT. If hose players that tried the game as f2p and didnt stick around, those are not the customer that Anet wants to cater to.
Hey. I´m Flux and I main mesmer. I am not a pro so there might be some aspects that I did not take in consideration. I think I have pretty good knowledge about mesmer. Here are some of my thoughts how they should improve mesmer.
I was reading about helseths thoughts in this post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Helseth-on-upcoming-Mesmer-nerfs/first
So I thought of these things to balance mesmer.
They should nerf continuum split so that it does not recharge elite cooldowns. They should reduce the CD on continuum split to make back some of the loss. This way I think continuum split would have more depth to it so that it would not be used only for the double elite what makes it too strong skill. There is really cool tricks you can do with it but they dont give enough value to use them instead of the double elite. You need to keep in mind that there is really strong utility skills too. You should keep an eye on Illusion of life so it does not get too strong. It might need some nerfs after the CD change.
For moa they should make it to give you revealed when you start casting and make the animation a bit more visible. This way it would allways have to be used with some coordinated cc. This way it would maybe have enough counter play to be balanced with the benefits you get from landing it.
For portal I am not sure how to bring its effektiveness down in conguest. There is many ways but I cant really say how they would really effect the functionality in the right way in the right direction. You could incriese the CD or reduce the range. If you reduce the range so that it cant portal you from point to point but only near the point so that it would allways give the decap but not fullcap. Or you could restrict the amount of uses to like 2. This would effect PvE and WvW scene too so I´m not sure about that. Or make it only one way portal from the mesmers direction to the other end but not back. This would change the functionality a lot in all game modes.
After these changes the mesmer would probably be too weak so it must get some big buffs at the same time you nerf these huge skills. Hopefully damage buffs cos damage is the best.
But seriously. Mesmer is a bursty damage dealer with some supportive utilities. Right now I feel like mesmer is lacking sustain damage and maybe a bit burst too. Defense is in good spot in my opinion. Maybe buff shatters a bit. Make mind wrack clear any weakness on you an make cry of frustration rip 1 boon.
The main purpose for these big nerfs would be to give a net more room to buff all the other aspects of the mesmer to make it all around good and fun class.
Nerf all the strongest builds. Only a bit tho. Not too much how you tend to do. The OP things they have. Just like mesmer moa, portal and continuum split. This would bring all the less used builds closer to the golden line of not being meta or being meta. Or even viable.
I writed this a bit like for the devs. Did not notice it really but I hope they are listening there some where.
another player who “main” a Mesmer suggesting more nerfs to class defining skills. This probably one of the reason why Mesmers nerfs from the devs are so heavy-handed, because we are self-defeating community that openly calls for nerfs. Remember after the Robert Gee trait revamp patch went through? People on here start randomly suggesting nerfs, and guess what? Anet nerfed the skills/traits that didnt need nerfs, in addition to more nerfs and tweaks.
Please just stop.
Yes. The new map is not fun. The Alpine map, for the few faults it had, was vastly better!
This.
I gave suggestions for over 3 years on this forum, maybe not all of them were great but all of them were ignored by Anet, even those in the CDI thread. I think they are seriously understaffed for their competitive modes, specially WvW.
WvW had the potential to be amazing but all that potential was wasted by a serious lack of vision.
If they are understaffed for WvW, it is because it’s a choice made by them to shuffling resources to work on other stuff. Now they can keep telling us lies, but at least someone is keeping a good bit of these lies in chronological format to see:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/40zzne/wvw_better_communication/
As you read them carefully, they are just full of fluffs and not much substance, everything is so vague about where things are with WvW revamp.
- unique server team armor skin
- unique siege skin
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/elite
just think of Elites as the “Heroes” on a Real Time Strategy Game, and the Normal Class as the “Units” and there problem solved.
That is the worst argument I have ever read in this wvw section. Every area has its own terms. Anet explained what the word “ELITE” meant when they first introduced the idea; not stronger but just different type of build. In every job there are specific terms that are used for specific reasons. So your explanation from a dictionary-like place does mean nothing. In this games term Elite (that was how Anet, who builded the idea around that word explained/created the meaning in the first place) does not mean “Heroic” figure. If you want more information, you can use uncle google about figures of speech, literary devices, terms and meanings.
As for your comment about balance, you are both right and wrong. There is a “nerf hammer” reflex on MMO players, that is correct. But after careful testing, and experience, I can honestly concur that Herald, and Revenant needs to be nerfed. Actually it needs a role, without stealing any from warrior and thief. Or we should just assign new roles for warrior and thief (which would be an insult to players of these professions, who invested their time for that specific role). And if a class does everything better than another class, it is not fair. Everyone who played against Herald or some builds or Rev thinks that they need some adjustment. So in this situation " bad MMO player" mentality can not be mentioned. I advise you to play with every profession, with every build and see the balance for yourself. Long and tedious it is, but fruitful. And will keep your adrenaline/anger at high levels.
tl;dr: Even Rythlock rerolled.
Stop being naive, Anet will not cater to f2p specs compare to elites you get from HOT expansion purchase. They might’ve said the right things, but c’mon, at the end o the day it’s all about business, why should f2p have equal advantage compared to paid customers. As much I dislike many things in HOT, I would never agree to this.
I don’t remember seeing many of threads with numerous players criticising the work of the art team or the sound design. They got the job done, no doubt about that, but if that would be the deciding factor whether a game is good or not, Destiny would have been game of the year 2014 instead of being one of the biggest disappointments in years and Star Wars: Battlefront would have been a flying success instead of being outperformed by every other AAA shooter on the PC platform despite having one of the most popular licenses of our pop culture.
Of course you can say that people complain about the 1% wrong, but well, let’s look at it, shall we?
- The story is a mess, even for the rather low GW2 standards.
- The content is artificially stretched out by gating and a huge number of collections.
- Numerous mini games have been introduced without proper quality management, leading to an unacceptable range of quality from “good for live server” to “kill it with fire”.
- Taxi Wars 2 has become a popular term for communities trying to organise meta events for their players on the new maps and getting kicked out of Dragon’s Stand in the middle of the fight is an issue that hasn’t been fixed for months, either.
- WvW guilds and small guilds have been screwed over by losing their progress and having to deal with a massive PvE grind to get it back.
- WvW is on life-support and the developers haven’t even tried to stop the bleeding or even talk to their alienated WvW players. They kicked a lot of very dedicated long-term players in the teeth this way and it’s not like a WvW player was spoiled with ANet’s attention in the first place.
- PvP suffers from the elite spezialisation powercreep and other terrible balancing issues and their answer was “balance patches every three months to shake up the meta”. Balancing by hitting the system with a sledge hammer in 2016 isn’t looking all that professional, especially for developers trying to establish their game in the e-sports scene.
If that’s just 1%, well… then I never saw how huge this expansion really is. I just wonder where all this content is hidden, because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen everything but raids. In other words: Yes, it’s not all doom and gloom, but pretending that this expansion is a paragon for the genre is like the proverbial whistling in the dark.
ANet has done better in the past and I won’t stop nagging until they live up to their old standards… or until I leave the franchise for good, that is.
agree 100%.
Anyone should go into WvW and look at how the new BL map looks in the full map view, it’s just a design intern just slapped the maps over the old maps. ANd that’s just the tip of the iceberg on how ANet has treated the WvW game mode.
This expansion is NOT a good example of a how a good MMORPG expansion should be.
Don’t care really. Thats generally my perferred method of balancing slaughtering an op class/build and driving off the FOTM trash for a development cycle or so and let some other classes/builds see the light of day. Its almost impossible to change classes/builds from OP to just run of the mills strong in one iteration. Smash away i say. Mesmer players are no more special then anyone else. Lots of classes/builds have been “unplayable” for extremely long periods of time. No one cares until it’s there perferred class that might be toward the bottom for a bit.
Mesmers have been completely unplayable except for 2 month periods once a year since launch for the most part. Ele has never not been in the meta, potentially changing now. Nerfs to mesmer, an already underpowered class except as bunkers which were already shaved to not being OP, is completely ridiculous and I pretty much think everyone who supports the nerf just can’t deal with the clone mechanic or is utterly insane. So far though the nerfs didn’t look that bad for shatter. But with thief buffs it’s completely irrelevant anyways because they will dominate the meta for a good while.
I would just like to point out that ele was out of meta for a year before they buffed celestial, you might wanna correct yourself.
While I don’t agree to trashing any class to the point you get flamed for playing it, I don’t think you realize that lots of classes have had the same one build issue for years. Ele never had anything else, but that one build, each time slightly different.
Fresh air was never viable enough to at least be in some serious tournaments, no one would play it. On the other hand shatter mesmers were played, not that much, but Helseth and Misha played it at least. I also don’t think shatter mesmer was in such a bad position, they were food for thieves, but nowhere near to unplayable.
Anyhow, this balance patch is a joke.
Ele is really not a fair example, you guys might have been out of meta for a year, but what you guys have later kept you in meta for a very long time. Pre HOT, rangers, Necros, Mesmers were completely out of the meta. Even with Robert Gee’s trait revamp, Mesmers had few weeks to shine and it was over nerfed after that. How anet treats Mesmer class compare to other classes is pretty evident, other classes get slap on the wrists, and Mesmers get the drag down to basement and beaten with a baseball bat.
Mesmer is still good, only a bad player who doesn’t understand them would think they are gonna be terrible once that patch hits. And what Lythoc says is spot on.
i highly doubt it.
I main a thief, but alt on a mesmer.
the thing i find most comforting is that the amount of bad thieves that will come out of this is going to be too darn high and will be a nice, easy… obvious kill.
in theory, we should have nothing to worry about. at all.
Good thieves however…
Even a Thief will have to worry about other thieves, mesmers can still deal mega damage and like i said on another post.
the mes+thief pain train is gonna be a thing again.
And that makes me happy.
A thief that loses to a shatter mesmer is terrible. Period. Sorry.
Thief’s defense is just capable of neutralizing half of our damage output simply because we either require a target or it makes our clones stand as still as frozen statue, while his stealth outlast ours.
I’m not saying we will be necessarily fodder, but claiming that thief dying to shatter is terrible while they are our natural counter… well I can’t agree.pepsi… you do realize that a thief’s stealth is SUPPOSED TO OUTLAST A MESMERS STEALTH!! stealthing is a big part of thief you aren’t supposed to outstealth them! All this QQing coming for mesmers complaining about thief are people who obviously don’t understand mesmer and/or thief
Top mesmers are apparently “bad players who don’t understand them [Mesmers]”
I dont understand Spartan’s comment, clearly he doesnt play Mesmers nor pay attention to what happened in the meta before HOT release. Supcutie and few other top mesmers have pointed out how thief’s mechanics hard counter the Mesmer’s mechanics, both class of same skill level in an encounter, thief have significant win probability simply due to that advantage.
Calling us bad players based on given info with past history between to two classes is simply being ignorant.
Hi everyone
Incredible but my chronomancer build will remain practically untouched, I have to decide if I have to take the scepter trait or not.
condi reaper.
Don’t care really. Thats generally my perferred method of balancing slaughtering an op class/build and driving off the FOTM trash for a development cycle or so and let some other classes/builds see the light of day. Those players that constantly call nerfs to Mesmers (before and after HOT) are the ones that want the class to remain the easy kill for them in sPvP, most of them being thieves.
You cant say the nerf is not bad for shatter, keep in mind that shatter has already been nerfed pre-HOT, remember the mirror blade bounce subtraction that wasnt needed as the the problem was more with PU stealth abuse but Anet is just ignorant as usual.
We’ll have to see after the full notes are released. Too early to say we’ll be RIP, irrelevant, whatever. Very possible we don’t get anything of real substance, but should wait for the verdict until then.
When the developers first leaked about scepter rework as a buff to Mesmer and it turns out to be a 5% speed increase on an already bad weapon, you know the developers hates the class and it is doomed.
As someone who plays both Thief and Mesmer regularly now, the buffs to Thief are particularly good against Chrono. Fleet Shadows pretty much protects you from succumbing to an initial burst from the Chrono, as Chrono burst damage is very multi-part, so it’s guaranteed that the trait will proc in most scenarios – will anyone actually take Acrobatics though still? With the Black Powder after-cast reduction a Mesmer will have a tougher time reactively interrupting HS+BP combo and probably won’t be able to prevent Bounding Dodge combo at all now. Basilisk Venom is pretty much going to be a free interrupt + back stab + Impacting Disruption on a shield Mesmer (I shall enjoy playing around with this). Chrono already has a rough time against dagger cleave – going to be hell for them with that buff.
I don’t think it’s the end of the world and it will be nice to have my Daredevil empowered in all game modes. But yes, it will be quite a bit easier to kill Chrono now. I think we might see some s+d Thief return too with that dps increase to sword, which is still a difficult thing for dps Mes to deal with.
At least one thief player knows the real deal, and not try to sugar-coat this nerf incoming to Mesmer.
sure, with the huge nerf bat incoming, I guess we will take w/e Anet willing to do to make this class viable… But I doubt Anet will read this thread, sadly.
